Morant game-time decision for Grizzlies in Game 2 vs. Lakers
"Memphis Grizzlies star John morant will be a game time decision when his team faces LeBron James Los Angeles Lakers in game two of their Western Conference first round series Wednesday. Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said Tuesday that the two time all star point guard suffered no ligament damage to his right hand in an injury that occurred during Memphis's one 28 one 12 loss to the Lakers on Sunday. Wolves suspend Gobert post-punch for play-in game vs. Lakers
"The Minnesota Timberwolves suspended center Rudy Gobert for their play in game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday after the ten year veteran threw a punch at teammate Kyle Anderson in an argument in the huddle during a timeout in the team's regular season finale. Gobert took a swing at Anderson and hit him in the upper chest in the second quarter of Minnesota's game against New Orleans on Sunday when the flustered Timberwolves were trailing by 12 points. But i feel like if there's a team that's going to start picking things up as the season goes along going to be the lakers just because of all the new pieces coming in on the lakers. Coaching staff. Also completely new to david physicals coming in john. Lucas third is coming in You know line. Holland's left jason kidd left so there's a lot of movement within dot to try to get sorted out so things are going to have to like. I think we'll start figuring out who the lakers are like. Hopefully by christmas. That should give some you know a two months time in to like see where the lakers are standing compared to the other teams health is obviously may be the biggest part because of the lakers. As are they going to be durable Can they make it work. You know like there's not a lot of young legs on this team. He got slimmer during the offseason to like is very noticeable especially during like the recent Workout video that He's been playing like the dream. But he gives you that better defensive production six four but he has like a seven foot wingspan in that you can saw anywhere Unabated one can play the two to three. He had some like ball handling duties when he was kings. Two years ago So you can. You can like give him some stuff with that but in in terms of the other guys. 'cause like the lakers pretty heavy now You know is not gonna start. I don't see none as a starter but they paid him the most money out of any like you know new lakers. So he's going to get minutes. I don't see it as a starting option You can make the case for a monk. But the thing is he's not there defensively just yet And he could just be that spark energy score off the bench. In the case davis gets injured. There is no guy in the front court that you can really rely on to bring that type of production Trevor reason anthony are going to be big guys to play Minutes before but again you know they're tailing off towards the end of their clears. Anthony thirty seven. He's not a defensive guy anymore. He's just strictly mainly shooter. Now are catching shoot shooter. That is He can't know he's not as athletic when he's guarding smaller guys anymore. You can only guard big guys not that great from the three point line anymore either. So davis he's going to be guy if he can stay healthy He's to proved that or he doesn't leading to prove because he's done a lot but he needs to show again bounced back from last year. Defensive force on the defense is going to take a little bit of a hit because guys casey p. a. coups improved in that role last year. Caruso is gone. so you're losing these guys that kind of helped fortify the limiter so when a de- gets challenged you know there's going to be challenges now for eighty to like help. Weakside help the guards that are not as strong defensively in the perimeter On data and so davis is going to be that key piece because he's the strongest in the front court and the lakers. They prove that you can still win with a big team In davis is going to have to be that guy again this year and beyond that deep level that he was years ago. Everybody's yeah he's going to be out and that means he's going to be the next guy that the lakers will go get what do you say i think he is I think they're the most likely team to get him But there's just. I never say never with bio guys even because this is kind of been the rumor for three or four weeks at this point That this happened in brooklyn and it was just a matter of were they going to do the bio for him was he going to have to be traded. I if it say brooklyn a whole lot of money the fact that they they just save millions of dollars on their luxury tax bill by doing it this way. Also nicer de'andre like deandra got that because he was part of the kevin durant kyrie irving initial big three in in brooklyn and he was just. He's friends with all those guys. They played on team usa together and he was essential for them in signing with the nets. A little while back and it was a him signing that he gets paid twenty million a year that is not his market value. They overpaid for him. In the beginning as part of a like a sign let sign kevin durant and kyrie irving and it was you know finally worked out that way but at some point you make so much money and your they have a lot of guys at that position but they you know straight into detroit. They they They're going to do a buy out. He's going to give back a little bit of money. Detroit gets four second round out of it so they get something And also some other some other complicated salary cap things but we all thought lamarcus aldridge was going to miami. Last year on the market he ended up going to brooklyn so until he clears. Waivers and intel other teams have a chance to approach the andre. "To win. That first playing game. In part because, ironically I think it would have been more fair to the Phoenix Suns. Maybe not to the Los Angeles Lakers. But the real, you know LeBron's. That was going to be true with healthy. Chris. Paul 1%. Chris Paul, This baby was gonna be a battle, but people were going to see what I've seen this year. People who don't want songs, games people that aren't in Phoenix. DeAndre Aiden didn't have. I saw it from so many people, and I got frustrated from Game one, Do you, Audrey, eight and talking to have that kind of game again. Oh, yeah, It's a great call, unless that's the player that he's become, and Chris Paul's arrival. You don't know what you're talking about. DeAndre is a really good player, and this is not me, but I've been saying it on the radio. Someone that that is, um 100% as it relates to the information they've give me over the years told me DeAndre. Aiden is going to thrive first two very simple reasons. Three reasons. He's further in his career, and he said, this sort of a breakout time when guys do that. Chris Paul is gonna take massive pressure off of him publicly, if not privately, Because now the underrated becomes the third when you're the third most important guy, By the way, you can also be the fifth most important guy on any given night when you're the second most important guy, Anthony Davis, you get blamed period. You're blamed if things go badly, totally different deal. And the third thing was that he was going to get easy buckets in the pick and roll from Chris Paul. He was one of all kinds of opportunities, the pressure and the need to double team guys like either Devin Booker or get up on Chris Paul wasn't create even easier looks for him and the chaos created by the offense with sons. It was explained to me was just going to me to be easier for him to rebound, and so getting some touches getting his hand on the ball. Getting some easy buckets was gonna instill this do with some confidence and you've seen it. You see, the Devin Booker is a breakout superstar. Except he broke out a long time ago. And by the way you look at some of those Cleveland Cavaliers teams with LeBron you look at the warrior seems that didn't win. There's a lot of reason they didn't win. They always fell out of the top. 10 in one of those categories usually usually was defense. Sons to both. You can't win an NBA championship if your best player can't play. And I don't know what it is with Chris Paul and I say the word karma with no with no pleasure. I don't I love is bad luck. I love its karma. Don't know if Chris Paul as a smaller guard who has pushed himself beyond the age where you're supposed to be able to be durable, which is 32, but it feels like time as in space as it relates to professional athlete. But I've seen this movie before, and I know how it ends. It is a love story that ends is a horror film. Or anyone rooting for Chris Paul story, and it sucks. And it doesn't feel fair. But it is one of the seven minutes in the second half, and that was a mercy. Because the guy at least right now that shoulder can't play can't move can accelerate can handle the ball? Can't shoot. One LeBron James is gonna be great. Jae Crowder is a tough, tough dude, but he's not gonna He's not the star of the game. Cameron pain hit some huge shots. Not At the end and enforced one in particular. Have to have Chris Paul. You have to have your closer You have to have Devin Booker be the most. Talented guy on the Suns. He's not the most important you have to have DeAndre eight and beyond the floor in a situation where the limelight snot on him, and therefore he could handle he can handle the way to the moment of the moment. Shift to him without Chris Paul. The sons can't win this series. And that's not fair. Son did everything right. They brought in the right guy. Chris Paul did everything right and one of the most mercurial personalities and remarkable talents of the point guard position. The history the MBA is not going to get an NBA championship in his career, at least Not one where he's a focal point. "Lakers phoenix suns with an emphatic. Ninety nine hundred game one win that they control from start to finish and you know what when we talk about the lakers. We usually get a lakers perspective. Ready and people were partying outside so fun. Time right now saying we haven't experienced this long time. So we had a kerfuffle and ejection. Chris paul hurting his shoulder and and using a jump shot form. That was clearly not his normal form will have to monitor that going forward so it was an eventful game. All season long and turned the ball over too much and just flat-out miss open shots. And we saw that happen time and time again. Let's get into the stands real quick before I start taking your questions and comments here. So the Kings shoot, 45% from the field, not great. But they shot 36% from 3 and ninety percent from the line. That makes a difference compared to a Lakers team who shot 51% from the field and 25% from 3 and 71% for the line. If you can't shoot, you can't win really tough to win games when you can't put the ball in the basket. Again at The Rim, okay? 51% off. You can't hit 3s in the modern NBA. "Talk about the Lakers getting this win, over the Orlando Magic. We're going to dive into it here. You know, it's a 114-2103 win but this game was a lot closer through most of it than we were comfortable with. And he rushed his best to come back and compete. It was admirable to a certain degree understanding what it might mean to his career, but more importantly, what it meant right at that moment to the team and to himself. And he went out there. He did not have to. And unfortunately you know what he did Blow his Achilles. He was out. He didn't miss an entire year an entire season. And right now, for a couple of days, he's not out due to covert issues. He's out with a pulled hamstring and we only hope that the time off doesn't eventually catch up with him. So for the Los Angeles Lakers, I'm a little shocked. I'm not concerned with the Lakers Long term This is the only thing that can slow down the Lakers from going back to the finals. This is the only thing that will keep the Lakers from competing for another championship that will stop them from going back to back. And that's injuries. We know LeBron James is a marvel at 36 years old. We will all assume based on recent history that he's not just going to wake up one day and his powers that they will be gone. It's also not a given that one day he doesn't take a misstep that someone doesn't run into him. Or that he also doesn't have something happen. Knock on wood. We don't expect that based on his history. But injuries is the only thing that can stop the Lakers for moving on, and I'll tell you this much.
