"Anyone who has lived in southern California knows I the fires and then the rain. So what happens what are officials doing to prepare? Well, they've said that basically since the word rain came into the picture. They have been strategizing organizing with county public works. The Los Angeles County fire department as soon as evacuation orders were lifted in some of the neighborhoods in Malibu fire departments were giving people sand and sandbags as they were repopulating, those neighborhoods officials started analyzing very quickly which areas in Malibu had been hard hit by the Wolsey, which canyons, you know, no longer had the vegetation to hold the soil anymore. And they started pre staging heavy equipment like bleach trucks in those areas and Riva Feldman. She's the city manager for Malibu. She told me that sheriff's deputies as early as yesterday afternoon, we're going door to door to those vulnerable areas and talking to residents just to make sure that people were aware that it was going to rain that they were in an area that you know, we could be particularly vulnerable that they should remain in the ready set. Go position in case evacuations were necessary, and then just asking people to assess their own personal situation. And she also said that the city has been sending out alerts through their alert system all throughout the day. They've been very active on social media. Re tweeting weather alerts because even the LA county emergency management department. This is eight eight eight seven seven seven you can text ready to them. And you will also get alerts that way as well. How our city officials besides that? And and residents and homeowners that you've talked to how are they how are they dealing with all of this? And especially with those residents are they packing up to go. I mean, they just got back. Right. I talked to one woman just portrayed. He she lives in Malibu west. She actually stayed for the whole Wolsey fire. She stayed that Friday when the fire struck, and then she stayed for the next ten days when there were actually evacuation orders, but she got a lot of calls from friends and family that said, we know how you are. We know your husband or Mondo is staying. But seriously, this is a different situation. It's not safe. You don't know what's going to happen. Look what happened in montecito? And they basically scared the crap out of me. And if it was just me, I probably would. Stayed with Armando. But I cannot put my children in harm's way. So pathetic staying in a hotel in Westlake. She says it's pretty much chock-full with Malibu residents. She's going to stay there tonight at least, but she's going to monitor the situation. Make sure moorings not coming in the rain. The rain is not over for that for that matter. And again, the US Geological Survey saying that there is a high risk of mudslides and debris flows in some of those areas in Malibu,.

"County Cumulus station from the top and gentlemen. Thirty minute nonstop. On seven hundred ninety KABC starts now. It's four o'clock in the west in the Morongo casino resort and spa studios. John village, and Alexa, skirt for Jillian firefighters could be getting a break with the winds on Thursday today, which they expect will help them increase. The fires containment with more details. We turn to KABC news is Jim Roope. And Jim's not with us. Drones. By the way, are reportedly interfering with firefighting operations amid the raging Wolsey fire. The Federal Aviation Administration received reports from the Los Angeles County fire department reporting instances in which drones of interfered with helicopter firefighting operations during the fire. The FAA is posted multiple times on Twitter reminded drone operators. If you fly firefighters can't, and you always see idiots out there with these drones. When there's some big breaking news trying to get pictures, photographers. I guess that have these drones get out of the way because the professionals are trying to put the fire out. Right. Exactly. I wonder if there's any sort of legal if they catch these I I don't know if you can catch drones. But if they, you know, they find out who these people are if there's any liability because you're you're basically putting a lot of people and property at risk by interfering. Can they just shoot them out of the sky option ladder? Maybe we have gym now. All right. We have Jim Roope on the line. Jim. What's the latest on the wildfires? Yes, sir. All right. Great sorry about that. Just very weird. So. We are now ninety eight thousand twenty three thousand acres. We're going to get an update on that. A lot of progress. Today was much calmer calmer. The winds were very very light. Are they both had the air attack up there and everybody really humping today? So we're expecting to get some containment numbers of maybe above sixty percent. Where fifty seven percent, I don't think the fire grew that much. But again, we'll get some numbers a little bit later on. We're still holding at at three deceased in this fire north governor Brown. And US secretary interior secretary. Ryan Zinke were in town today. They were up north yesterday. Pretty much said the same thing, they're playing very nice all the stuff that you know, the administration and the governor has gone up few rounds over the past several months say the lease. The only person that went through more rounds than those two is Michael, AVI. Allegedly allergic to make sure to get that. They're not the president the president has pledged his full support to California in the exact words of a Ryan Zinke and Brock long. Who is the FEMA guy said the president said to him go take care of the people governor Brown said, yeah, we talked to President Trump yesterday on the phone. We're all together on this. It's it's it's one big happy family team right now, which is good for the people who are suffering through the fires. So both northern California, which is at one hundred forty thousand acres roughly thirty five or forty percent containment star. They upset containment today. We should get some new numbers at the six o'clock briefing. We're getting ready for and I would imagine to we'll get an update on remains. That are recovered. It's a very interesting process. The recovery of the remains they're going through each home where it's suspected or where somebody has contacted the sheriff's department says we haven't heard from some. And so so they're going to those homes those neighborhoods sifting through the debris, very carefully. Very very Reverend Louis, it is it's pretty pretty emotional scene to see the national guard people dressed in white except for their camouflage helmets, and they're sifting through everything if they find remains they don't touch them when the coroner comes in and does the recovery of the remains. So that's going to take a long time. I heard today, and we're gonna try and get confirmation that was earlier. There was a list of one hundred thirty people that were still unaccounted for today. I heard two hundred ninety seven or or or a number to that effect. So we're trying to get confirmation. If he's updated his list because that first list of one hundred and three was augmented yesterday with now one hundred and thirty so I wonder if he's gotten another list together of ninety seven whatever the fifty six remains that have been recovered, so far forty seven have been tentatively identified. And when is the next news com? Conference again. Six o'clock. Okay. So we'll we might have more information there. And we're of course, very happy that the winds are going to be dying down a bit. These firefighters have been so aggressive at fighting these fires. It's time. They catch a break. But we got a double edged sword going on here because we have weather coming into we have rain possibly Wednesday Thursday. Would you think would be good news? I would think because it will help them the firefight. But now, all these suicides don't have education. So just like we saw last year after the Thomas fire the Mendocino, mudslides, montecito mudslides. What's going to happen is if it's a it's a long slow steady drizzle. There is no way the water is going to be able to or the hills are going to be able to accept all that water. If it's a real fast, heavy rain. There's no way the hillside it's gonna accept that water. They're going to come down. There's already preparations being made for possible mudslides as they're still fighting the fire. So we have good news and bad news on the weather front with cooler temperatures, which doesn't really matter. How dry things are. But we have moisture coming back. In fact, some of the moisture some of the relative humidity levels increased sixty percent of the upper elevations in northern California. Which really gave firefighters are chance to to wrap their arms around a lot of this fire because the fire. Just laid out for them. So that's good news. But we're we're very concerned. Lease. They are very concerned of the wet weather. That's on its way. All right. Jim roope. Stay safe out there. Thanks so much for stopping by. Bob pleasure. Thank you. Right. It is now time to take a look at the roads starting with the east down to ten very tough. Here said I need a left.

"Helpless. Cool weather did help fire crews gained ground today against the deadliest wildfire in a century as the search went on for more bodies nearly two hundred and twenty square miles of blaze in northern California. Was forty percent contain this morning. State fire agency said and firefighters succeeded in slowing down the flames that are advancing toward more populated areas. But. Your heart goes out to all the people that lost their lives in this fire. And of course, now, there's a lot of blame going around one place. The blame is being held on a drone owners. Your owns are reportedly interfering with firefighting operations amid the raging Wolsey fire the FAA received reports from Los Angeles County fire department reporting instances in which drones of interfered with their helicopters trying to fight the fire. Oh my God. During the Wolsey fire. So far they've been unable to identify who is operating these drones as the FAA, but we are continuing to push out the message that it is dangerous to fly drones around wildfires. You know, what's happening is people who have drones and are able to give back to their houses to see. Oh houses still standing there sending in drones. Oh, that's interesting. And thought about what I've heard that. Yes. So I mean, you can't blame them for wanting to know what the latest is interfering with operations, no way. No way. No. Yeah. Fire evacuees many of them have returned to Malibu lake and they say they're stranded there because they have no services late Malibu lake residents who've returned the area, despite this lingering evacuation orders said they're surviving of generators. And what food they have left with the lone road in and out of that mountain community that route is blocked rather in and out of the mountain communities. So many of them are there but they're stranded stranded. But meaning that they don't have power restored. Right. Can't get out. The one road is blocked. Now my gosh. Yeah. I note this morning. It's been the question. How did they return? But right. The freeway was insane. This morning people. It'd be PCH is closer everyone piled onto the one one. And I heard it was the worst ever been there. It's awful. I mean, we have a lot of lot going. It's it's hard to even cover. This. All don't you feel like we haven't even caught our breath, we were prop we weren't able to even properly cover this mass shooting last week. That's exactly right, hold funerals vs people. Because many of the places are evacuated and roads are impassable. I it's it's like begetting. I know that seems overwhelming. It is. Gotta take a break for traffic. I do, but we got we got a minute or so here, and and I just want to say that I thought we pulled together a nicely as a community though. I think people, you know, everybody showed concern. Well, yeah, the worst. But but I think we generally did pretty good. And I heard that the firemen were overrun with donations. There was an article said no donation, please. Yeah. So so good job. And maybe there's other things we can do for them to get by the way, not just were threatened in the middle of a crisis..

"Air tankers thirteen air attack ships fifteen helicopters for large air tankers and went very large air tanker already to assist. Existing fires. And to be able to handle new starts. As you heard this morning, and as you can see we've already had two starts within the last hour. That's gonna again, commit resources. I implore all citizens to do the very best. You can to not start any new fires. It's the last thing any of us need right now. Thank you. Los Angeles County. Fire department fire chief, Daryl auspey. Good morning laws. Be far Los Angeles County fire department. Once again on behalf are honorable supervisor. Who aspires located and also on behalf of the other board of supervisors had an opportunity to talk to this morning. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the citizens that have been impacted by this fire. An update for the movie fire right now, our data shows that we're a ninety one thousand five hundred seventy two acres today. And we have twenty percent containment. I know that on the other press conference. There's been bought a pressure to try to get a number structures damaged or lost on right now. We have an estimate that we have three hundred seventy structures that have been lost on this fire right now, we still have our Dem's assessment crews out trying to make additional sesame simulation to structures damaged or lost. However, I want to emphasize because I know there's been a lot of challenge and concern to all response because we threw everything is that we could from the surrounding departments. Although we've lost over three hundred structures. We've estimated that there were fifty seven thousand structures at risk. That are still here. So he's wanted to place emphasis on that. We're still in red flag weather right now as mentioned earlier expecting up to forty mile per hour winds through Tuesday. Our primary focus right now for firefighters incident. First life. Property protection in Lyon, containment right now, we have twenty percent contained on this fire. We're gonna be working all day and all night to try to increase and reinforce that containment. In addition to that as mentioned earlier, we're also working with our utilities. Southern California Edison, the gas company. The road department to try to clear debris make the community safe for a repopulation when those determinations are made to our citizens as mentioned earlier, we asked you for your cooperation because our number one objective is to our perspective is the safety wolf of our citizens. Finally, I would like to once again, thank our firefighters. And we are getting reinforcements. And as we stand here today for this press conference, but we've had some firefighters on the front line since Thursday. So that's five days. We're trying to rest him as we can. But some of our firefighters are getting tired, but there's to fully committed to the fire. Better that we're in right now. And then additionally I would like to thank the other members of my department in relation to our mechanics or administrative staff or our dispatchers on the right now with all hands on deck. And I think that sometimes it's easy to see the first responders out on this incident. But we sometimes don't recognize of support that occurs behind the scenes and the conclusion to all of our firefighters all of our first responders and all of our citizens be safe. Yes. Is that a product of a bitter counting taking place in the area? Was there actually the time for the district? Right now, the increase in numbers is based on bitter Intel we were scrambling throughout this incident. So all of our forces.
