R. and looks like Hollywood story multiple grade one winner has produced a very nice two year old here orig- alling by honor code a grandson of Eight the and the and boy you know I was extremely impressed with that debuted run sprinting boy you could just really see the tip of the iceberg there and they took their time with him didn't rush him back off and stretched out which it looked like was is GonNa be something that he would really like and I was really impressed by the fact that in his debut he was so far back early this time he came out of that gate and came out very nicely very professionally really and it looked heading into that clubhouse turn Smith really would've preferred not to even beyond the lead but he couldn't help but that honor ap just wasn't like he was dragging in there or anything but Smith wasn't going to restrain them to take after lead and for him to come home as nicely as he did I mean he just drew off so beautifully in the lane and gets a ninety one so he goes from a seventy-seven debut to a ninety one Steve Anderson and the racing form does such a good job Reporting that I once did here in southern California for the D. R. F. He pointed out that that was the fastest time twelve racers at the meeting one mile on the main track so far as ours the Rod Time One thirty seven point ninety four so you had mentioned text immediately after the race you thought would the Los Alamos dirty make cents Steve Anderson also reported that that that is exactly a race that they are contemplating for honor AP and they did say no Breeders Cup for AP so they are thinking of the Los Alameda teary just seemed to fit wonderfully from a timing standpoint and they're racist really been so good through the years as a springboard into three year old campaign so it looks like really bright future here for trainer John Sheriff as one of the best trainers I've ever been around and it looks like he's going to be really primed on the Derby trail here with honor. AP Well we talked last week to John and I I've actually I'm kind of glad that we connected weeks after my initial I think it was in September at the end the Dell Mark I reached out to John a couple of times and we just didn't connect and and so then then that morning last week these he responded he said sorry okay all right if you insist and who is tremendous and he's he's you know it's funny there's there's there's so many of the horsemen visits that always seem to resonate and John's a on that front shug how about Barclay tag last week too me Barkley I thought was really informative and insightful ban that was just fantastic and another you know to me positive sign coming away from this Andre p performance you know that was pretty highly regarded race and terms of prospects there's magician finished second for Richard Mandella and you look at it and say well yeah he got his clock cleaned getting beat by a little over five lengths batismal suggestion was over ten lengths in front of the third place finisher night race and as I say it was not considered a week race going into it so it's just further evidence Inste- to me that what we very well are dealing with here with this honor Api just he he's he's the kind the two year old to me that it's just so exciting yeah now this is what this is what we're after a you know once the summer and they start to they start to parade through we get to this juncture and it starts to get you know starts to get interesting we from standpoint John I I one other thing I think I I'll slip any or as I look at yesterday's results the the natural the hat trick for Doug O.`Neil yesterday the fifth sixth and seventh race and for those that heard me last week I think on Friday I'll just keep reiterating that Doug O'Neil deserves the absolute two hundred percent support and appreciation of the industry a he more than any one individual from a from within the industry has been leading this you know these these proactive don't WanNa call them protests so much as considerations and rallies before big days at at del Mar and at Santa Anita and With the help of Oscar dilatory I I cannot congratulate and and voice enough support for what got is is doing and so for him to be rewarded On the Karma Front as as hammer famously refers uh-huh King and the Good Karma swinging around the Doug Right now also got a mention it looks like a step forward it a for a three year old Samantha Segel's Quality Road Philly that was bred by Martha Mohammed that's Road Ranger looking for sure in that race and you mentioned neil you know he's always been such a terrific ambassador for our game honestly you know you think of the controversy that was involved back in the day without having another in he handled all that I thought extremely well heading to the Belmont and Gee what a disappoint many and I really think I'll have another I had a fee after the Kentucky Derby I bet on him to win the Belmont stakes in a proposition in Vegas where they say will there be a triple crown winner yes or no and this was before the preakness but it was after the Derby and he was such a low lightly regarded horse he in fact he of course wasn't even the favourite in the preakness boaty meister was and then headed to the Belmont was the most lying favorite union rags who won the race but considering the final time and so forth I just really feel if I'll have another had had his chance if he would have won the Belmont but well never know that but like I say such a disappointment and both Doug O'Neill and already handled that with such class and You know I remember being up at Emerald downs in the early two thousands for the lawmakers Mile Pacific Northwest West major race and I was there to do the the Fox North West Telecast along with Joe with the and and others and I remember that Doug O'Neill was sending up a horse from southern California for the race by the name of Scott Hi Jack had actually he won the race broke the track record and Doug O'Neill actually gave me the two French shoes that skyjacked war in that race and but I remember the people at Emerald the in the publicity department especially saying do you know this Doug O'Neill from southern California said well yes of course I do they said what kind of guy is he I said believe me by the time he leaves here are you everyone here at Emerald will love this guy

"Less than two minutes from now it's five thirty five traffic and weather together every ten minutes on the fives. Jasmine Shaw, all of a sudden a bunch of motorcycle crashes now we had one of the Newhall pass southbound side of the five of the fourteen that clear to the right shoulder on and off slowing though from Valencia boulevard and the northbound fourteen struggles from the beginning of the freeway there off the five up to just about sand canyon and a motorcycle wreck now for this. Southbound one ten of Martin Luther King junior boulevard looks like a motorcycle and a bus actually waiting to hear what lanes are blocked. It's going to be one of the express lanes. I'm sure and it is jammed solid from just about the five can't really use any of the downtown streets to cut through and save time. Everything kind of jammed up there northbound in rough shape as well from just about exposition up towards the five, and it sounds like a motorcycle wreck on the Long Beach freeway seventeen jam Cam, and Brian it's our northbound side. Yeah. Right for the ninety motorcyclists down in the far right lane. A Long Beach fires on the way to tend to this one. You're jammed at a downtown. Long beach. Speaking of that northbound seventeen is going to stay having all the way up to Firestone south on your little heavy, of course, off the sixty making your way down through commerce. We've got an issue slowing your drive more than it is six zero five Scotties, overhead and sky one little worse than it was earlier. Yeah. Somebody having car trouble style Clark or six Beverly that's at the second lane from the labs keep it over towards the far right or far left here. Slowing essentially out of the Los Alameda area from right around catella, willow expensive, additional slowing north and southbound certainly slow from rose hills area down toward the vibe. We can finally clear the issues on the four or five in Orange County. There was a crash northbound at Springdale, and then a ongoing stall beach everything now clear, but jammed solid from MacArthur all the way up there to beach boulevard. Southbound slow go fifty five down to jamboree the turf reweight is in terrible shape. Eastbound we haven't even had any major problems, but from lost hills almost the hallway to the across the one thousand four is in really bad shape. And there's been a crash in Thousand Oaks northbound one zero one past the twenty three and the two left lanes solid backup from Westlake boulevard next. Report five forty five. "It's part of the country. That is on the front lines of the debate. Over immigration, many, California cities have taken matters into their own hands either by declaring themselves sanctuaries from immigration enforcement. If you quote unquote, broke the law by coming to this country to work with there's work aplenty. Plenty that's not something that I see that the city should be looking to arrest somebody for or by voicing their support for immigration and customs enforcement, or is this is really about rule of law in about local control this year. New state law took effect in California. Limiting how much local police can cooperate with federal immigration authorities the law Espy fifty four is called the California values act. It's also known as the sanctuary law and his drawn lawsuits from the Trump administration and several cities in California. But the legal battle kicked off in the small. Town of Los Alameda, which voted to opt out of the law in March, and is now being sued by the American Civil Liberties union, Los Alameda city manager, Troy, Edgar says, the sanctuary state law goes too far when you look at this. It's really the difference between the boundaries of separation of powers between local jurisdictions state jurisdiction in federal from our perspective. We wanted to go and take an action to say, hey, look, we have the right to do this. And that's when the ACLU came in and said, we don't think you do have the right? So now, we have an outside group. That's actually going and challenging us on that issue. How do you respond to some of the opponents of this who say that by not having a sanctuary city sanctuary state policy that immigrants are going to be less likely to work with law enforcement on major crimes reporting things at cetera because they're afraid of deportation. You know, what I don't see it that way. I think that if you talk to people within especially around loose Alameda, send the north Orange County area. You'll see a lot of the. The immigration population that may not be legal thankful for what we're doing because we feel that they feel that basically by us not abiding by these sanctuary laws. What happens is these people that are bad actors that are illegal that get put in jail, and then are not released back to the federal government come back into their communities and continue to terrorize their community. And so from their perspective, they're very thankful. I think a lot of this is it's the politics and the sound bites versus a reality. What's going on on the ground? Edgar met with President Trump earlier this year, he's been in regular contact with the White House since the move by his city has been called racist and xenophobic. I asked him about that. I don't think this has anything to do with racism. I probably the best example on the real life example, I give is my wife is from Iran. She came when the Shah was overthrown, she's a Christian in Iran. She basically had to get asylum in Paris for two years and wait in turn to get into the United States. And so that is. The way immigration should work, and I don't have anything but love for immigrants, and I actually with my wife is an example. I mean, this has nothing to do with anti anti-immigrant or a racist. More than a dozen cities in California have sided with Los Alameda in defying the state law. Mark Zito is assistant special agent in charge of ISIS homeland security investigations in the LA area or HSI. He says the sanctuary state law is having the unintended consequence of complicating investigations into serious crimes like human trafficking. I feel that this has become a political issue, and it really should be. It should be a non partisan issue. And it's a public safety issue. Each's? I is here to protect our national security and to protect our neighborhoods, and if they took a minute to actually learn what we did. I think they would be we're we're very we help immigrants more than any other agency that I'm aware of a lot of these immigrants that come across illegally are abused. I've met with I've been on several interviews with women that were raped multiple times getting up here an our agents. So the ones that help these immigrants that are coming up here. They tried to get the information from them, and we go after the bad guys that are terrorizing these people when they're coming up here. They take their life savings, and they do very bad things to them. We're talking about criminal organizations that are doing this Zito says his division of ice has become collateral damage in a political battle over the country's broken immigration system. But other cities in Orange County see it differently go a few miles down the road from Los Alameda and you'll. Find Santa Ana which declared itself sanctuary city long before the state passed its sanctuary law divide Bellavia days is a city councilman there. We believe in the dignity of all people the city of Santana has about eighty percent. Latino about fifty percent of the residents of our city were born in another country. So the issues of immigration direct impact us directly and the sanctuary city ensures that we send a message to all of our residents that they're going to be treated respectfully with dignity and at the city is here to serve them. Well, we spoke earlier with the city manager from Los Alameda who said I'm not anti immigrant. In fact, I'm married to an immigrant, and it's not about racism. Why why I'm doing this? I had to hold back. My laughter. There. It is. Frankly, a pretty shallow response. There was no need for the city of. We'll take the position that they did other than to send a political message. They're wanting them and other cities like them wanting to send a message that California's is not welcoming of of immigrants, and that's not the position that we've come far beyond that. I would hope and we believe in the dignity of every person who enters our city, and that's what it means to be a sanctuary city. And when President Trump says that you're giving safe harbor to criminals, you say what? That he is a liar and has no idea about the laws and the law of the land. He oftentimes talks about violent criminals, and I too believe that any violent criminals should be held accountable. The city of Santana believes that any violent criminals should be held accountable. They should be arrested. They should serve their time. However, if you're only crime, quote unquote is leaving your country out of desperation looking to be able to survive being able to provide for your family. That's not something that I see that the city should be looking to arrest somebody for so what do people in law enforcement think? Well, it depends on whom you ask this is the chief of police in Santa Ana David Valentine, I think some people misinterpret sanctuary for being soft on crime. We're looking the other way. That's that's not what it is. That's not certainly what we do here. That's not what my mandate is to my officers. We respond behaviors we're spawned a criminal behaviors irrespective of your status. So when representatives from Icee it makes their job more difficult. What do you say to them? So federal authorities are you know, they have the mandate to enforce federal law. We do not. And so it's like lanes of traffic, right where our local police entity. And we provide police services to the folks that live here they have their mandate to enforce federal on the and they do that. So the other pieces it has to do with community trust in others. There's a large part of the dialogue there on. What does that mean? So the demographics of our city are such that we want people to feel comfortable to call us for help. If they're not calling the police who are they calling. Right. So the idea is to reinforce the messaging that we're not interested in. The residency status. We're going to respond and assist. The folks that call for help. So that's the chief of police in Santa Ana this is Don Barnes the under sheriff of Orange County. We ran one of the largest gel systems in the nation. And we've always had a relationship with ice privatised, regardless what administration Bush Obama and now Trump when there's somebody in our custody roughly just about ten less than ten percent of our inmates in our custody for local crimes not for ice issues are here undocumented of that ten percent is only really wants about one percent of those individuals. Those are the ones they place a detain her on. So it isn't everybody in our custody. It's just that small population of inmates ice has said they want that we can no longer communicate. If we can't communicate we released them back in the community. So you think SP fifty four is making this community less safe. I know it is making the community. Last say, I a lot of the individuals who we do who are arrested are being returned to the communities in which they originally preyed upon. So we know that. Happened. We know it has since January first we've had seven hundred seventy two through September this year individuals criminals in our care who ice had placed a detain her on that we could not return to ice they released back in the community one hundred and forty of those already been rearrested for new crimes four tempted murder. Several four assault with deadly weapon. One for child molestation one for spousal rate. Numerous other crimes that are occurring that one hundred forty and those are only the ones that we know about because a return to RJ, you're working at the county level. Do you think that the rhetoric that's coming from Washington from the Trump administration on the issue of sanctuary cities is helpful to you? I think the rhetoric rhetoric coming from both Sacramento and Washington is not helpful to anybody. We are like it's like two, divorced. Parents who are getting pulled in both directions. It we need to stop. These extreme fringe, politics and focus on what we're obligated to do in law enforcement, that's providing the public's safety, regardless of what's ones immigration status is no matter where you live in this country. You probably have a view about sanctuary cities, you either side with Los Alameda or Santa Ana and Undersheriff foreign says that's part of the problem. The issue has become so political California's sanctuary state law is not on the ballot in November. But the. Author of the law. Kevin de Leon is running against fellow democrat Dianne Feinstein for Senate. She started her career in the nineties with a promise to stop illegal immigration. Her message has changed. She now opposes the Trump administration's plan to cut off federal funding to sanctuary.
