"Of 2012 if you're watching the news ram than you might remember that was when hurricane sandy hit the us eastern seaboard if you're listening to the cbc in any of those areas that were hit heard you're going to remember a lot more too many lives were lost many more were turned upside down a lot of people in ontario especially southern ontario know this right now heavy flooding southern ontario in in brandford but when hurricane sandy hit new york city it arrived on the doorsteps of thousands of people that included the home that lorry anderson shared with her husband blue read like a lotta people they lost some things in the storm and their case it was year's worth of lorries archives and notes from her decades long career an art and music all that stuff that was stored in the basement was ruined by the floods but anderson looked at that mess and instead of seeing lost a set of seeing thing she'd never see again she saw something beautiful so now she's back with two projects that came out of that storm the first is a new album with the krona's quartet called landfall the second is a book of essays called all the things i lost in the flood earlier this week i spoke with laurie anderson about what these projects mean to her how you can lose something that means a lot to you and still feel found take a listen lori may go back to 2012 for me before the storm hit tell me a little bit about your life in the weeks before oh let's see i was toying around doing shows i think and lewis doing little bit of touring two so i um was going to be doing a show in dc and i was in berkeley and i and i heard about the storm coming and i thought i have really got to get back fast because all the airport started shutting down those storm teams were really busy uh in dc were predicting the worst um anyway uh i got to dc in that show was cancelled so i get the last train up to new york and got there just in time for the.
