Adam Sandler performs tribute to Chris Farley on "Saturday Night Live"

"It was I forgot to watch it with what's his face did Adam Sandler. Yeah. I forgot all about how was it? Good. Well, one of the things I didn't know any talk about it in his monologue. At the starts his first time back at SNL since he was fired. And like what oh Sandler got fired. I didn't just rock got fired. And Chris Farley got far they all get fired at the same time. I'm like speaking of being on crack, I think Lorne Michaels must have been on crack is that would be three of their stronger characters. But sadly did a really nice song. It's from his Netflix special from last year where he did this really nice tribute song, Chris Farley and had this need to kind of. Slide show wasn't a slide show is an actual vignettes of his greatest moments on SNL in the movies. He did. And they everybody was pretty touched by that. You believe in twenty two years since Chris Farley died and believable, right? Yeah. Boozer boozer Drucker. I think wasn't the story behind him died of a drug overdose. I what and create. I I'd love that guy. I love that guy for just the I love the way he just sort of change what they were new. There was so many things that he did like Robin Williams at the start of interviews or at the start of shows that they would have, you know. Okay. Here's the script. And they sort of look at it going. I don't fucking keep into that. I got my own idea. You know, I got my own idea. And I love that. That's my mantra man that is my mantra that they just had the right amount that dual in particular had just the right amount of breaking character legless Merck's, but they powered through most of the time is usually Sandler that was breaking character and Farley would just keep ROY. Rolling right through it. And I thought they did at just the right amount. Versus Jimmy Fallon who seemed to.

"Story about you that Lorne Michaels. I got hired at Night Live. You heard you love Jack Nicholson as we all do. Great. Yeah. Michael said to you know, I'm going to invite you over my home because Jack is going to be over. I know how much you love, Jack and wisely, and I commend you for this. You said I'm not going to your house to meet Jack Nicholson explain why because I am in full agreement was so that's pretty accurate. The we were in L A, and he was having dinner with Jack Nicholson and Jon Hamm, right? And he was like would you like to come? And I was like, no. I was like no there's nothing like, what am I gonna just do like, you guys are going to have conversations about stuff you could relate with and I'm going to be like, hey, well, what was the cuckoo's nest? I can't live with Jack Nicholson hating, you're and you're uncomfortable with being at that dinner because you're afraid he's going to meet me think why is this. Dumb. Pothead are billion dollar table. Here's maybe this is one of the reasons why this kid is self destructive. Because in Hollywood, if somebody says, you wanna be Jack Nicholson, even if you hate Jack Nicholson, you go because this is going to be a public or restaurant somewhere is going to be one hundred photographers after take all these pictures. And then that's how you move up to show business ladder, Brad, Pitt sees you having dinner with Jack Nicholson. He goes, oh, I like that Pete Davidson I'd like to have dinner with Pete Davidson. And that's how you get projects rolling. And that's how you you. Get more projects and more creative people come into your life and more money comes into your life. And that's how Hollywood works Hollywood does not work with you sitting in an apartment in the Bronx with your cat. That's not Hollywood because Jack probably still has a lot of sway. So if you don't think because there's no way Pete Davidson. I would think that he hit it out of the park because he doesn't have the psyche to to think that about himself. But maybe Jack next time somebody asks him. Hey, do you know anybody who might be able to do this? He could be. Yeah. This this kid was over here that the other day be fair to him in the moment. He was thinking, hey in terms of me. Sincerely, interacting here. I'm not going to be able to do it. I'm gonna feel it's going to get up into my head too much. I think Tim's right. Like, you should probably go. Hey, man, maybe one of them into shape, but just sit there and enjoy yourself. It's one of your idols, and you've been invited to this dinner. Even if you don't play the show business, you know, getting ahead thing somebody asked me I'd ten fifteen years ago, if I'd like to have lunch with Rick Dees. And is that are you f ING kidding? I would drive anywhere to have lunch with Rick Dees, right because I didn't have much in common with him. He's worth three hundred million dollars worth like, you know, three grand. But I wanted you know, he's an idol. He's a radio celebrity, and I listened to him every day growing up. I love Rick Dees III. To go to San Diego State college. And I couldn't get kiss FM at San Diego State. So I drive the Dana point and get a wind chills. Coffee and a Donut and set up on the top of the hill at Dana point. We're we're kiss FM would come in. And I could listen to him and then drive back to college. I didn't do it every day. But I did like twice a week. Wow. And have an opportunity to meet him and sit with him and pick his brain and talk about radio. Absolutely. That's what you do. That's what it's called networking or just, you know, just have you just look how many opportunities you're going to have in your life to meet Jack Nicholson have dinner with him one. Why not take it? What's the worst to get happened? He will wants to physically fight you..

"Bruce banner jolted by jolted by Gama rays changes into the hulk unglamorous. Yeah. That's not even a word. But that those were the lyrics doc Bruce banner jolted by gamma rays changes into the hulk anti unglamorous and as a kid you just go. Yeah. He has no alternative as unglamorous than he is obviously unglamorous. Hi, everybody. It's Bill, and it's Wendy. The reason for this is that we lost STAN Lee. There's no word I wanna say legend legend isn't enough to describe Stanley and all he gave us years icon. Yeah. Without a doubt. We'll talk about him quite a bit. Gary Kula Bono. Who means so much to the world of comics here in Chicago will join us in just a little while. We'll talk about Stanley now during the crossover a few moments ago. Justin is the one who brought this up. He said to us. Do do you think there's anybody in pop culture that meant more than STAN Lee when you think about all all he gave us over the years, and the names that we came up with included George Lucas, Lorne Michaels, Steven Spielberg, I left off probably the biggest name of all Walt. Disney Walt Disney. Disney was mentioned as he mentioned just mentioned that right away, Walt. Disney would be probably. Yeah. He said, you know, do you think Stanley's the biggest icon around? I mean, of course, you have Walt Disney then. Yeah. I didn't hear George Lucas. He mentioned. Yeah. He was definitely and Lorne Michaels was a great call. I you well, no television show in history has had more impact on society in terms of running characters and catch phrases, and and just the duration of the show. It's been on. Since we were in grade school. It's still running. So all that thrown in. And you know, the the man pulling the puppet strings on that is is Lorne Michaels. So you have to give him a good one by that criterion. Although I think he comes up short it'd be met Greg too, right? Sure. Singular impact not nand craning from Simpson's right known primarily for the Simpsons stone age, I think I'd put him in there. He would probably be. So we're talking about. What would you say the last fifty or one hundred years top twenty for sure? Yeah. Because but Lauren Mike Lynch Saturday Night Live had so many different character. Oh, yeah. Walt Disney in so many different Stanley. And yes, Simpson's are pretty singular. So well, he did. Yeah. Yeah. He he's done. A couple of other television shows nothing as impactful, of course, is the Simpsons. But isn't that the longest running animated show? Yuppie show. Wow, sixty minutes. I think Steve has it by a couple of minutes a cartoon anymore. Anyway. No women on this list. There should be at least one or two at least one or two women on this. And I'm trying my best to think of who that would be and I'm not coming up with a name. And that's that's awful. Shouldn't there be at least a at least a few? Silence. That sucks. The point. I'm trying to find words for is that unfortunately, women were didn't have the opportunities until thirty or four Leo Johnson. Should be thrown in there. Thank you. Texter? Jim Henson's good way in there. Yeah. There's no doubt about that one. And that's for sure. Vampire carpet guy. The emperor carpet guy. Many Mohan Jack the pep boys would certainly be a whole world sock and about the everyone's talking. Oprah's not in this issue. No, no, not right. I know my disturbing material is a little weird because you know. The criteria would be just the impact. It has uncultured Papa. All right. Okay. If you're going to do that, then Oprah. I mean, maybe why not. The Stanley doesn't resonate with me. Bill. No, not really. And in fact, his the success now of these those silly superhero movies are keeping good movies are being made. There are allowed to go to the movies. But I mean Oprah had had a had a profound effect on me. Older people, but you have to admit like if you just all right? So you're not a comic book guy. But if you just walk down the street, you're going to see his influence, you're going to see people wearing captain America, t shirts or ironman, hats or some. I mean, it's inevitable. No matter where you go. You got to bump into that. I think Oprah I don't they have look at her book sales all the millions and millions of books. She sold doesn't it plan? The age groups like, you know, young people and old delight or think these people are at conic young people couldn't give a rat's patootie if I may borrow a phrase from what's her name? Donald right. They don't care about Oprah. Yeah. I I don't know about. Because I was going to say I love over as you say you and Oprah friends not yet. She hasn't friend to be. All right. Tell fending dangling carrot call me, and I'll put in there, a caller. And texter are both saying similar things that J K Rowling could probably you could make the argument that she could be in there. Tom. Yeah. I don't know if you're just looking for American icon people are, you know, worldwide, but Jake you're wrong. But Harry Potter's there's something to that. Empire. I want so badly for there to be in this list. So that wasn't it makes the most sense. I think right. Well, that's the one. I thought I guess what about Vicki Lawrence. Oh my God. Why don't you? Vicki lawrence. Steven Joyce DeWitt get together for lunch salad lunch. That's the night. The lights went out in Georgia. Thank you very much. You guys are pop icon. Oh, yes. Well, sure. Yeah. Mostly diet. You. All right. Let's take a break. And then more discussion sticker on its Bill and Wendy on WGN. Nice.

"Green be fired Lord. Sorry. Lorne michaels. Be fired. Lord, green entirely different, dude. Yeah. That's what I'm thinking. They don't make the he has to approve this stuff. And I don't know if you fire Lorne Michaels, I guess maybe if he approved that. Well, let's take a look at the old. Clock. It's one thirteen we have Derek. In managed as your nicknamed Dc today. Call you Dc. Actually, they called me directly. I don't know. Why? All right. What's going on with you, sir? Yeah. That that joke. I'm probably being a very patriotic person. I'm not a military in the military things. All those guys are definitely more patriotic than I am. But I took that joke as he was actually kinda start being sarcastic. When he followed up with that punchline. You know, maybe it was the best time. But I think he meant like the opposite. He's trying to like disprove the first part of his job all the guy guy. Just know he lost an eye. And or whatever he said, I think that it was like that was really something that he I don't get what I'm saying. Now, let me say sandwiches saying what you're saying. Is he made a joke? About the guys appearance and said, it looked like a porn star hitman or something like that. Right. Yeah. And then he said after well, I know he lost an eye and everything. So I guess what you're saying. He was talking about the overall, look and not concentrating on. Well, I think he was trying to. When you say something like, you know, she's really beautiful when she's not you know, what I mean. I think he was like trying to make the point the guy was a hero. But you said the opposite with a sarcastic. I'm probably one of the few people. That's actually been fired from Saturday night lives Facebook page because I was always beaten up on Trump, and the Republicans are telling jokes about Democrats, and how poor their humor is a lot of cases, and they actually blocked me from their Facebook page. What are some of the things you said, I mean, if you can say the only if they can. Bullets or anything like that? It was I guess whatever reason whoever managed that tastes page. They're so far laugh that they couldn't take from the other direction joining the I can tell you I stood out in the rain, but three hours holding Geoff Diehl signed tonight. I'm just I mean, I just thought it was such a horrible thing that Elizabeth Warren actually be Senator Scott Brown six years ago. And now, she cooked down a businessman a guy that's got good policy in, you know. So I was kind of you know, it was. Kind of a win. Whatever you wanna say in Massachusetts. Active and into the political situation. Well, I I don't believe the Democrats have our best interest at. Hi, Nancy Pelosi doesn't have a good plan for America. I mean, everything that they're doing this resistant. They're happy to have the power back. And you know, they're going to use that power. They're gonna use that to basically blackmail the Senate, you know, push their far left programs. You know, if they wanna get like the military paid for with tax breaks that help businesses stay in America, which these are all good things that Donald Trump has done in the land closed Schumer. They're acting like this is some horrible thing. They've done they're making they're giving tax breaks for the rich giving tax breaks to the corporation isn't giving tax breaks to the rich corporate tax breaks keep corporate tax breaks. Keep those companies in America, and they provide jobs. Good paying jobs for America. The flip side of that is them taking off the Mexico and China, and you know, they the Democrats and even the Republicans to with driving these companies out of the out of the country. You know, the the Republicans say, yeah, okay. You can go Wall Street say, yeah, you can go, you know, we can make more money on that cheap Chinese labor. So everybody, the Democrats which is trying to tax and regulate the hell out of Republicans are just looking for that cheap Chinese labor in Donald Trump's the first guy that came along that actually said anything about it. And he's doing something about it. I gotta give him points for that. Because that's that's a big deal to me that he's actually taken on China to try to straighten out that problem. So. You may feel it giving tax breaks the corporate tax breaks is not giving tax breaks to the rich. That's debatable. But in addition, he also gets. A just a small, you know, not small, but if you're a regular worker, you got a 4._0._1._K plan does does tax breaks for the corporations are going to help put money in your pocket. Your your 4._0._1._K plans are gonna go up the flipside of that. Again, those companies they're there if your tax the hell out him. Yeah. But go to China and they'll make the prophets, and they won't bring that money back to the country. So you're stuck over in China and Mexico. You know this. Tax breaks for the rich. But what your favorite your least favorite thing? The democratic liberal programs are. Least favorite. Yeah. The ones you hate. Well, I know what happened to me is I am a small business owner, right? I I don't have you know, all these far-left liberal programs to fall back on. It's all on me. Right. I got to provide for myself. I've got to provide for my family, and it just so happens that I couldn't afford health insurance during the Obama administration. I couldn't even afford to pay what they said I could pay. So I didn't pay it. And then they go on top. And so here, I am like struggling to put food on the table, my family and going wack me with a twelve hundred dollar darns fine because I didn't buy health insurance. You know? I mean, what the hell is that? I mean, that's that's what Elizabeth Warren believes. And that's what Nancy Pelosi and Brock Obama believes. Then right. They say there for the little guy. I'm the little guy. You don't get any little bit me. I happen to be a struggling small business guy. Right. Senate nothing out there for smoke. It's not like you won't get health care when you go to get to the emergency room, and you don't have health insurance. Then I have to pay for you. My I have had to pay more my premiums for you. Yeah. I understand that argument. But I couldn't afford the insurance. And then they find me on top of that. Right. So how is that fair to me? There may be. There may be folks that say it's a good thing that you are compelled to buy insurance because they don't want to pay for your healthcare. They put on me right now. Right. So this is this is this is the other side of their, you know, their argument helped care for our isn't health care for all. It's basically torturing the little guy that's trying to survive. Trying trying to run a business in America is a difficult thing. Thank God for Donald Trump, picking back those regulations. Another thing. He did was a hundred percent spent expensing, right? So if I have to go out and buy a piece of equipment for my business. I can write that off in one year. Whereas before it would take me seven years to write that off. So these are things that are good for the economy to create jobs in America. You mean, what are you? What is your business? Do you make a product or you have a service? Yeah. I have a small machine shop. I do a lot of stuff for under Obama before Obama. I did a lot of military in medical device when Obama come along he killed a cut way back on the military. He cut way back on the he bought the taxes on the medical device. Fifteen percent tax on the medical device the medical device industry. So there's two and the economy was doing pretty bad back bad back then too. So. Why small business owners like I mentioned before like a business owners that have cost they have to buy something, and they sell it and their costs are going up because of the Trump t- tariffs. I mentioned the army navy store, and he's he may have to get out. Eighty stores, don't sell they make America American military equipment is not made in China. They don't use Chinese steel. His Chinese steel is crap. I'm a manufacturer I used I. I'm asking you about people small business people who have their costs are ramping up because of these tariffs. Does that not those that that's not a legitimate? If I buy like raw material, right? Some building like a battleship with Chinese steel what you wouldn't do you wouldn't just wouldn't do that you're making something huge out of Chinese Bill like maybe a bridge for the state, then you might buy a lot of cheap Chinese steel, you save save money because they're dumping that product they got the government subsidizing their industry and the and that product United States trying to destroy our steel industry manufacturing industry. I've been I've been doing this stuff at thirty thirty five years. They're almost thirty five years now, and I've seen what the Chinese cheap product products mayor dumping a buy cheap raw materials into America's down to the steel manufacturing. I'm right in it. Right face. I in in. I bought China. I'm trying to right now. I by Chinese steel wants to make a product that I was making my own what's the government outlawed? It was darn vape was making a vape product, right and the government under Obama two thousand sixteen he passed a law that said that everybody making any kind of a vague providence was making that stupid little drip tip at the end. If I make a new make a new style drip tip. I gotta pay. I think it was two million dollars to the FBI to have my product researched and tested to make sure it was safe. And it was a bunch of crock. It was the cigarette. Industry to pay it off. Sorry, I'm rambling on back and forth here, but I used I tried use the cheap Chinese steel on that product. Once you remember, there's a kind of a G rated program. We. Yes, sir. I'm talking to you not about people that use steel. I mean, you using particularly hard hit by policies of Obama. But I'm just pointing out all the retailers. Now who are telling me that their costs are going to go way up, and they're gonna do you wanna do you wanna stop China from doing? What do you wanna let the middle class die in the middle in America as far as all those manufacturing jobs that Obama said they're never coming back. Well, how how are you on unions? I've never been in a union. He actually didn't work in shops because they didn't want to be in the union because I believe that a person should get by on their merit in their skill. Not their time served by that's just my opinion. Uh-huh. My experience with the union says that if doing the same job if you work in a non union shop, I would make about one third of what I made in a union shop, and as far as I'm concerned unions are responsible. Good morning a union shop. If you're you know, if your average, then you may get a better paycheck. But if you're a very still people pay extra for that. I see. Well, maybe it depends on industry, I'm pretty skilled and they didn't. So anyway, back to unions and the middle class you're talking about the middle class. The unions are responsible for there being a middle class at all. And has unions go away, there's a there's a matching graph line of the class. Hundreds is one hundred percent need for what was going on. You know, the, you know, what they call the robber, barons know, we wait workers were treated and. You don't robber barons. Now merging. There's new monopolies from ends up my family hundred years ago. It was monopolized out of the diamond market by that bird, or whatever it is company. There used to be a I used to be a blueblood way back a hundred years ago. I guess so conglomeration in merging. There's simply not enough competition guys like me, there's very little you can't really go across the street due to the the Republicans being all gung ho on allowing mergers. So you do need the protection of. You gotta you know, like, Microsoft was broken up. I hope they break up Google. I hope they break up Amazon because these I don't believe these companies are good for America. They got too much power in. I think that there's reasons to break up companies that have too much power. And so now what other? Programs particularly irk you on from the democratic side. See Elizabeth Warren, you know, her party and everybody going after cavenaugh that was pretty disgusting programs that costs money programs. Well, obviously when they put all kinds of regulations on businesses that causes a lot of extra expense, right? As far as the. You know, like like can't even make a gas can in America anymore, right? Because they got they got so many like plastic gas job. You can't even make a plastic gas jobs, and that's more lawyers than than it is regulations. Basically, destroying the. A lot of a lot of American manufacturers. They got to pay such high fees for insurance to protect themselves from lawsuits and stuff. You know, either you keep a company small, and so you're not worth. So when you grow, and you gotta spend thousands of.

"Because he had this great, pardon my language. I don't give a fuck like he hammered OJ after the murder trial knowing that OJ's best friend was the head of NBC sports done Almir and Don Almir was calling Lorne Michaels. And you gotta have him stop doing those kidding and norm. Didn't know. Realize that the? The players had that much pull. Well, I think Don all Myers pretty influential. Obviously, it's gotta go through Lorne Michaels. But Lorne Michaels gives the players I guess a certain allowance to well he didn't give him that much allows because he was fired when norm kept doing the Joe the best. I was he would go off script or Lorne Michaels. Whitten approve of it day, more or less that hey, you got a cool it on. I no one's told me this. But you could tell like they probably went up to him. And it's funny. But you gotta cool it on the OJ stuff 'cause Lorne is friends with done Almir. That's OJ's, buddy. You know, it's kind prising how the talk show host nowadays. Especially like Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, they really hold, you You know. know, president fee to fire and they get away with a lot shit prizes me. I mean. Yeah. Way with I think norm definitely have his own talk show. Now, there's so many now different avenues, you know. Like I for comedy will watch one hour CNN. And then I go to Fox News. And then I'll go to MSNBC now CNN and MSNBC are pretty much the same network hate Trump just rail on him twenty four seven, and but then I go to FOX which is complete opposite loved Trump and in Kobe. I mean, there's there's not too many conservative talk shows like. I would say most of like Conan Fallon set Myers. I think they lean probably toward the left. Yeah. I guess Rush Limbaugh. You'd might says someone of a talk show, but it is. You know, fascinating to watch in this era of divisiveness how everyone has a market in. Rush Limbaugh kills the new have co bear kills. There's not really much in the middle. You know, I some some try to not hit us hard like Cobra does I don't think Jimmy Fallon does more softball approach. But I don't think in the metal plays like because you of you're splitting your audience like. I've always wished there was a talk show that ripped into both sides because I would think you would get both you get people watching Trump people want you to love Trump, and it's not just Trump, you know, whatever side ever issues, but it just seems people want the other. Yeah. That's it definitely is a sign of the times. So it's, but you know, as a comic for me. Trump. Great. So, you know, it's just so. Just the divisiveness is great for humor. But that's my kind of humor in the first place is very dry sarcastic. And just. So when Trump says something just great are going back to when we started this. I mentioned on Rickles. What do you think of always my? If you ask me to pick a stand up, and he wasn't even really a traditional stand up. He has my favorite comedy album of all time, which is Don Rickles live at the sands. Yes. In nineteen sixty eight. And. You know, you know, once again..

"Too soon. Are you kidding me? Well, the the web that they did. And I didn't see that some of it online, which I was probably the best one of the night was they did the reparations awards where Michael Chang winner Ali gave awards, you know, it was like a bit like went to people's homes and gave awards to people from Sanford and son, and some of these shows that never got nominated because, you know, the the the whole deal that, you know, the Emmys were to white, and we're black NFC went around gave it the Jimmy Jay Walker. That's very funny. So that was good that they did the other stuff that that was going on with like you said with Maya Rudolph, and Fred arm is in. You know, they they tried it. They tried to bring SNL to the Emmys because of the Lorne Michaels was the producer of the show. So try to make it SNL. Succeeded some jokes landed others. But all in all I think, you know, it was. It's an award show. And I think at this point most people like do I really need to see these people give each other awards, you know. There were a couple of highlights one being that Betty white got up there. They gave her some sort of a lifetime achievement. She should have gotten my three lifetime achievement award. By by this point funny. We were sitting on the couch when my wife figured out, the enemies, we're on it. I was watching Monday night football. Yeah. And luckily, she didn't tell me to change it. And so she says did Betty white die because I guess whenever that happens. Somebody on her Facebook feed goes all Betty white. But like an acute way read inflection on the internet. Yeah. So she thought she. Yeah. Well, Betty white thought she died too. But I gotta tell you. But but here's the thing. Out and she's adorable. I mean, we can all agree there. And she's an American treasure. Right. And so she kind of went into like a rambling kind of planned, and it just got to that point where we're getting a little squirmy because you knew we get the old person up there just keeps going and going grandma, and I was afraid she was going to like not no one to stop kind of crash and burn. Yeah. And then and then they'd have to play the music to try to get her. Because sometimes I mean, look when you're ninety six years old all bets are off. She's thinking this last time on TV. I'll keep these people here for another hour explain, but she's just yelling. I didn't want an uncomfortable moment Vergara. She's so cute. Everybody loves this woman and interpret credit, she's still she even though she's ninety six which is you look at it. There's no way she's ninety six it should ask someone who had worked on. She's just like forever youthful. The wrong she's old, but she's ninety six years old old. And so, but she knew enough went to kind of wrap it up. And so she left the stage. It was kind of sweet. And then Henry winklers play the audio. There. Henry Winkler wins a an EMMY for the first time for what he played this. This supporting actor or the supporting role in an HBO show called Barry, which I'd never seen. Oh is that the one with? Who's the other SNL? Do the lead. Bill hader. Bill hader. Yeah. Yeah. It's supposed to be like a dark comedy. And he wins the MVP. He won money was nominated for. Fonzie? So it was kind of collusion. I.

"Prix, it's circuits of Americas in Austin coming up on the nineteen th through the twenty first of October. But last night. Ami's took over was it NBC. Yes. Yes. Lorne Michaels was all over it. There you go. And there's our update for Megan Bishop entertainment correspondent, so tell us was it politically charged. Megan Bishop was not politically charged. Did you see the entire broadcast? I I missed the legit. Yes. Or no man, you are under oath here. Did you see? Okay. Then you don't know. I saw an hour and a half hour and a half. They didn't get political story. I read about it say how political it where that came from the entire show was all about the me too. All right. So so we're we're the host Joost whatever's named funny love Cohen, and Michael, and they were painfully awful every joke fell flat, and they were snarky to they're like, we know. Nobody's watching. And you know, they were very Saturday Night Live honest, so funny. Trouble reading the teleprompter. Clearly, oh my God. So it was like Saturday Night Live. So it was not funny is what you're saying is what I hear. No, no on their jokes just fell so flat. And then they scan the audience. Once there was nobody there, so empty seats everywhere seats everywhere. Nobody in the auditorium nighttime. Emmys I saw clips, and there was all kinds of people in the audience, including Donald Glover teddy Perkins. All in one little area. All right. So did you know any of the people that one did you see their shows? I forty five minutes. No. So now, you only watch forty five minutes is starting to know the name of that game of thrones once I'm right? Yeah. Yeah. Did this is us when? Okay. What's wrong with this? Because I saw the list of nominees. This is us. And there was a Atlanta or the only two shows I've ever seen that were there were on the nominees. Marvelous MS Mazel, apparently, we gotta watch that. Yeah. Network is that on Amazon me Amazon Amazon. I've got enough stuff on my regular dish. Today. Don't get a chance to watch much less start streaming thing. But apparently that's the future because that's all the Emmys were was all streaming, and and pay per view or guys say pay TV Showtime HBO that kind of thing is they denounce a winner. You just kinda shrug your shoulders and went okay I've ever seen Westworld. I can't believe we've been talking for almost three minutes. And you have not mentioned that Fonzie finally won an EMMY that was genuine win last night. And I think this was a lifetime achievement. Emmy because he should have got Emmys for every year he was unhappy days, but he didn't get one. And so they probably made it up to him because I've never seen berry or heard of berry before. So I'm just thinking he did joke with reporters that he was wearing rubber pants with the little powder. Just in case he wet himself, but he had control. He said. It was it was joking backstage about it. Look fonzie. I did not know never want an EMMY forty plus year career to never won an EMMY again. He deserved one's done. Others deserved. An EMMY I'm telling you every year happy days. He carried that show. There was not for him. Ritchie Cunningham was great. But it was fine. We all tuned into watch. I mean, come on. He jumped a shark. Apparently a big moment last night too. Was when Oscar ceremony director Glenn wise proposed to his girlfriend during his speech. Okay. Right there. Look he just messed up every other guy in the world that ever thought using no seriously. How do you? How do you top that? Well, how you you're a worldwide TV broadcasts in you. And you you messed up every Jumbotron forget it was emotional because he just lost his mother a couple of weeks ago makes me want to get married. His mother his late mother loved his girlfriend. So he was like. Really the place. I'm serious. I hey, it made it more entertaining than it. Otherwise would have the sad part is the guy's Cullen culinary Michael pretty much almost ruined that because they're go all these guys propose to their girlfriends today, they're not winning an ele- crowds. Like, what are you talking about? So it's like, boom, then that happens. It's like, oh my God. Is it with us? Scarlett Johansson, yes. Yes..

"Appearance Thursday. It's the best day of the week. So one of my favorite writers today's David Wong. He wrote an article nine pieces of life advice that are bad and stupid. I think a few of them are worth mentioning here. So let's break them all down a couple of them down. The first one is follow your passion. Follow your passion. You've heard that before Eric listening. I'm just saying. Asking a question, very important. Because look you've been following both. You've been befalling you're passionate look where it's got nowhere. I've always wanted to be a producer here. You are. This is. Okay. How depressing? A much better piece of advice is follow your pain. Why is backed up his argument is that movies with training? Montages have ruined us. Movies that have a training montage of ruined us. So we everyone seen rocky or the karate kid, right? So let's say you rocky, right? You got rock Rockies fat out of shape cue, the music. He runs around for awhile. Picks up some chickens does some sit ups a little bit of the punching bag two and a half minutes later. He's in world championship. Sandy with karate kid. Can't do the karate kicks around for a while. He probably picks up chickens too. I think there's a little wax on wax off. Boom done champion karate two minutes later. So you watch enough of those movies and our brains start to think that it should take about two and a half minutes to get really good at something. Now, we're not that silly. Right. So maybe let's be a little more realistic. It'll take two days to become really good at something. So someone has their passion or what they think is their passion. And they say I'm gonna do it. Thirty six hours later. It turns out that this passion things a lot harder than I thought. And then we get discouraged, and we get depressed. That's because of training montages. We want things to be easy. We think they should be. We've all heard of sticker shock before we all know sticker shock. You think something cost one hundred bucks two thousand dollars sticker shock. It's so expensive. David Wong coined the term effort shock. So this is when we think something we'll take this much effort in order to get good at it. And we started doing it. We're trying and then we realize it's actually going to require a thousand times more effort and pain, then we ever thought possible in order to accomplish this goal. That's effort shock. Wow. Well, actually, it's worse than just while. I don't know if I want to do this anymore. It's actually a worse conclusion balloon make this point quick. I think I think I watched this on here. You know, who was Eric. Did you ever watch Lorne Michaels on comedians in cars getting coffee? Yes. I think it was Lorne Michaels who said. One of the problems with stand up to them. In the past. I guess is these guys were so good. When you make something look easy. It looks too easy. Right. Like if you're really good at something. And it's effortless looking then everyone's like, oh, I could do that. Okay. Yeah. And you can't like so when you watch Michael Phelps swim in the Olympics, and you watch and do the butterfly and its effortless. You watch that. And you're like, oh, I can I can do that. I could go easy that is he touches the wall World Series. I'm breathing hard. What's the hard about the swimming thing, you get out of the pool and you start to drown? Right. So what someone makes them look really easy while at the problem with that as he made it look, really, really easy. And then everyone thinks we can do it. Let's take something we can all relate to dieting. So we think because of training montages and movies, and maybe because of weight loss commercials and stuff and Photoshop. We think that if you eat better for three days, you should lose thirty pounds, isn't that? Right. Isn't that kind of feel like three days of eating right, and I should be trimmed tiptop shape Iran yesterday. So. I mean, we whereas whereas I still got these lot. What's going up? Yeah. Now, it takes probably a year. Of eating right and exercising. Probably year. So that's. A year. So it's three hundred days longer and probably a thousand times more pain than you anticipated the pain of not eating what you want to eat and all that right and the pain of exercising and all that. So it's way longer and way, more painful. So the societal problem with this is that there are millions of Americans millions of Americans who in their own way, tried something and did not succeed because it was way more effort than they thought. So people start to think. Jeez. If I worked hard. I should get what I want. But I don't have it. Which means there's some injustice in the world keeping me from getting it. So it'd be one thing if people tried really hard at something have their passion. They try for two days at it. And they're like, I don't have what it takes. Oh, well, that would be one thing. But it's not it's I want this thing I'm going to try it for two days. I don't get it. Someone's keeping me down. It's someone else's fault. That I don't have this thing. I tried so hard, and it could be your evil, boss. Who's keeping you down? It could be capitalism. Right. It could be this big force called capitalism. I think that is I think effort shock is a major motivation for people liking, communism and socialism. I really believe that I think someone puts a tiny amount of effort into something making money. Her getting a raise or getting a promotion. They don't get it right away. So got to find a scapegoat evil, greedy capitalism. And then you gotta find and then it's easy to be. The allure of cap of communism seems really appealing right because here's all the promises of all your. Riches trappings without actually having to work hard for them. Right. I really think that's one of the major appeals of communism or it's the consequence of effort shock that. Life's lot harder than we anticipated making. Money's a lot harder. I remember we talked about one time. How long it takes to form a new habit? It was something like sixty days sixty days just to and so when you think about that, you see these people that go on like these two week or one month diets, and they're doing it all year long, but they're not doing it consistently because they off then they're on than the RAV than there on that person. It's fine. It's always interesting to me to think about the fact that it's gonna take two months at least. So you can't just do one month and then go away. Now, most people stop it probably a week, maybe four days. So is there someone in particular or just everywhere? I mean, you see someone in your. I mean, you know, you're thinking, let's just say miles. You got to go on a diet and stick with it. Okay. You give up too soon. It's hard though. It's funny. All right. So after two weeks, let's say someone really struggles with the died for two weeks, and they push through it. And they make it happen for two weeks. Their body internally their body and their brain is like, oh when are we going to start eating my crap again? I can hold out like we're just what's going on. Weird round like a desert island, and there's no potato chips. Not. But I'll okay, I'm cool. It takes two months before your body's really like. Oh, okay. Yeah. No one is better. Also, then tricking you than yourself. I remember when I was struggling with alcoholism. It took at least three months for that little voice in my head. That said, well, you can just you can have a beer. I mean, you used to drink a handle a whiskey every two nights. What's a beer gonna do? Come on, man. Let's get real here. Let's sit down and have a drink. Josh Bantu,.
