The collagen professional basketball world is colliding. As we are watching teams get a little tight, tensions get a little high, about making the playoffs either as a straight up normal traditional playoff seating situation or in the play in tournament. You don't want to be part of that. It's extra work. The games don't really count interestingly enough. We don't know where the statistics go. They go down some wormhole. It could be extra games. You don't really want to play extra road trips, you don't want to go on tensions getting high. And this is also when we find out who's going to be healthy and who's not. Who could be healthy, who needs to be healthy in the association. And it's also when defending champs raise their hands and say, remember us. Warriors won their consecutive first consecutive road game, all year long. They have 9 road wins now. But two in the last two. Hey. Just to remind everybody, hey, remember us? We win a game on the road every single playoff series that we play. 27 in a row if I'm not mistaken. And they are currently your 6 seed in the west and I would love for them somehow some way. To get into a position where they could play the Memphis grizzlies, who got John morant back last night. And they got damn near 40 points from J square or J cubed, right? Jaron Jackson, junior, junior. They're getting back into the mix. At some point, Dylan Brooks, his big game in big mouth will all get back on the floor too. Yeah, he was out last night, right? 16th tech? Oh, yeah. And so he missed last night's game. The Minnesota Timberwolves won a nail biter against the Atlanta Hawks and who provided the game winning points from the free throw line, somebody who had not had on the floor since November 28th Carl Anthony towns. Big cat. As Anthony Edwards watched while he got hurt. And the warriors beat the Mavs while Kyrie Irving watched as he is hurt. The sons here in Los Angeles lost last night to the Los Angeles Lakers, Monty Williams, the head coach after that game. Complaining about the free throw disparity in that contest, I guess when one team gets 46 and you get 20, the head coach is going to get a little bit snippy about it. He got snippy after the game last night that the Lakers won with LeBron watching, but D'angelo Russell has been back for about a week. Anthony Davis has been superb since LeBron's gone down. And the Lakers are now in a position to be in the play in tournament. Also rich Austin Reeves must be wearing LeBron sneakers because the way he's been balling. Well, he's actually preparing for the role in the reboot like LeBron. He found these shoes. He's there. Austin Reeves is in fact a Lil Bow Wow of the situation. I think he had three hundred free throw attempt last night. I think that's why he was so mad. And the Mavericks are staring down, not making the playoffs at all. This is bananas. They're sitting there in the 9th spot in the play in tournament. Same record as the Lakers. Unreal. And only a half game better than the jazz. Who had Lori marketing come back after a one game respite? With his back injury, feeling all, I guess, 40 point ish. He scored 40 last night as the jazz still lost to the blazers who aren't even on the screen. Pelicans can they get Zion back in time because they're just a half game behind the Lakers? And the Mavs. Whose owner Mark Cuban pardon me, governor Mark Cuban was complaining about the oddest scenario I've seen play out on a basketball court this year. He says it's the worst non call in the history of the NBA. Worst officiating non call mistake possibly in the history of the NBA is what he tweeted out as the Mavericks are protesting their loss last night, the NBA FYI has not upheld a protest since 2008.

So he thought he was deep by default on LeBron's team and tried to make fun of it and saying, well, I guess it's you and me, buddy and put his arm around him because he thought he was the only guy left. So he picked himself. He thought, yeah, by default, no one picked me. I'm the last one, so I guess I'm on your team. Right? Two time MVP, odds on favorite, heavy favorite to be three times. To be the three time MVP number one seed in the Western Conference, last pick in the All-Star Game. And let's just say it right now. That is a reflection of the All-Star Game. Not jokic. He plays below the rim. The All-Star Game is a shoot around and a dunk contest. He doesn't do those things, particularly well. He passes. He's unselfish. He plays an old school brand of basketball that does not suit the All-Star Game in any way. But out of respect, he should have gone earlier. He's going to be the first three time MVP three straight MVP where it says Larry Bird. I mean, we're watching a first ballot Hall of Famer. Give the man some respect, but it's a reflection chat of the game. As bad as the NFL game got, where they finally resorted to flag football this year for the Pro Bowl, the NBA game is close to that. It's close. It's awful. And here's all you need to know about the All-Star Game itself. They reflection of all star weekend. Who's a bigger star this weekend in Salt Lake? Irving scores 48, Nets beat Jazz for 1st win without Durant
"The nets four game losing streak is over after Kyrie Irving engineered a one 17 one O 6 verdict over the jazz. Irving scored 21 of his 48 points in the fourth quarter. Obviously, I made a few more shots than I did in the fast food games. That makes a difference, but I feel like we just played poise down the stretch and doing the little things throughout the game. We are in this win. Nick claxton chipped in 20 points and Roy so Neil added 13 with 6 assists in his first game back in Utah since being traded to the nets. Jordan Clarkson scored 29 points, and Lori market and tallied 22 with 11 rebounds for the jazz. I'm Dave ferry.

Grizzlies, without Morant, beat Jazz, extend win streak to 6
"Desmond baine tyus Jones and jaren Jackson junior carried the grizzlies past the jazz one 23 one 18. Bane had 24 points and 9 assists for Memphis, which played without John morant. Jones added 21 points and Jackson provided 19 with 9 rebounds and 5 blocks, a 43 point second quarter highlighted by a 24 9 spurt, put the grizzlies that had 66 52 and a half time. That's through 79 days of an NBA season. The previous high was 66, in 1961. Yeah, no, no, you can do it.

"It's the right team for him. Last year I just lost faith, but you know, he's never been in the right situation. His per 36 this year is 25, ten and three. He's shooting 53%. How 65% on two pointers? This year. That's like Rudy Gobert, where you're just like dunks and layups. But it's that. He's making that tough fucking shots. He looks a little Dirk ish. And you know, there's some stats that might say, all right, this guy might be hot, the league's going to figure out things to throw at them. But at the very least, with him and then with Sexton, who will hardy looks at and goes, you're not playing 36 minutes a night for us. You're just not. I'll give you 7 minutes, a half. And then maybe a little more if you're feeling it, but you're gonna play between 15 and 26 minutes a game. And that'll be up to you. How long you're in? And Sexton's good. He's like a good heat check guy. I would have won him 36 minutes a night. But on down the line with all the picks they have, verno. I don't know, man. I don't see them tanking. And I actually had this written down. I think it's going to be hard for I think it's impossible for them to tank. I think it's going to be hard for OKC to tank with SGA playing like this. It's never possible to take a figure it out. Well, you just got to trade a bunch of guys. That's what they would do. I mean, and that may be, again, you don't know the way this stuff's going to go, but Danny may look at it and say, this is the absolute best case scenario that I've got all these guys who are all like 8 man rotation, guys, but none of them are near. Probably none of them are the third best player on an amazing team. And so I'm going to take these guys and all these teams that are trying to win right now. They all have value. So I get now I can get a first rounder for frigging Lori marketing. And I can get a first rounder for this. I'm not giving away Lori marking it. I actually think he's in peace. I want to keep him. Yeah, I think just looking at big picture. I look at the west and it's like, I like your team. Right. I was thinking about this too, though, right? We talk about this tanking stuff all the time. And you know that somebody like Houston, they're going to have a million losses. Like, you're not going to Charlotte. Charlotte. Even if you have the absolute worst. Absolute worst record. There's an 80 6% chance. That you don't get that number one pick. Right. And I know that they're scoot and I know there's amen Thompson, and I know there's this is a good draft, right? At the top, okay? But the one guy is the guy that you would, people can say, well, you could still get scoot Henderson. But you're not just sacrificing an entire season for the chance that you might get the second draft pick because you might get the third you might get the fourth. But when you have an 86% chance of not getting the number one pick, I do think it recalibrates how you think about even a team like Utah. This year because, you know, you look in the pelicans didn't have the worst record. They ended up with Zion. Memphis didn't have the worst record. Their whole franchise changed because they got John morant. I mean, you know, one of the worst records was the New York Knicks. They ended up with RJ Barrett. Well, part of the problem. Utah's the one seed right now. It's pretty hard to take when you're the one seen. Oh, I know. And we're hurtling towards a quarter of the way through the season. But you go through the west house, I trust, I trust that Denver will be there. 38 and three. Members like, oh, what's wrong with Denver? Well, they're fine. Three. Phoenix is 8 and three. And Marcelo argued about their over under and Marcelo was adamant. They're not going to be 12 games worse than last year. Stop it. He looks like he might be right, although cam Johnson got hurt. That's three. Then it's just like, I don't know, do I trust Dallas when Luca has the ball? 87% of the time. Do I trust the clippers? I don't know when we're going to see why again. Do I trust the warriors who are owned 6 of the road? You go on down the line, New Orleans. I think is going to be there, but they can't seem to keep everybody healthy. So I think Utah has to play it out. What do you think, house? Well, I think it's fine for them to play it out. I mean, 11 games in some unexpected thing will befall them. I want to do a very quick tangent on Phoenix. The Phoenix calculus for us and the reason that we went under is because we don't trust Chris Paul to play throughout the regular season. It was just a basic bet on them not being able to maintain the health and they still don't have to me, you know, any kind of replacement at that point guard position that's going to allow them to sustain. So that was the reason for the Phoenix wazir. Hold on. Did you see his stats this year?

Teams that are understanding the assignment, Detroit, Orlando, Houston, shout out. You understand the assignment. Houston's won an 8, they want team Vic, right? Yeah. Orlando won in 7 Detroit two and 7. They're getting them. They got the memo. They understand what's up. Lakers are two and 5. And the warriors three and 5. At what point if the warriors keep struggling is do people wonder if it's because draymond punched out Jordan Poole and they can't get past it? Are we like two weeks away from that maybe? On the other hand, Broadcom gave a strong sales forecast for the current quarter, its shares rose 2.4% in after hours. Broadcom supplies some of the largest companies in the tech industry, and it spoke more warmly about demand, really right across the board. Asian socks are mixer at the moment, Hanks and index futures are lower. We have nikkei and deus ex futures higher this morning. China futures are flat, S&P E minis are essentially flat as well. Really just right around the start line, the S&P finished at 39 66 exactly 300 points above the June low from which we rallied quite significantly up to more than 4200 points. Dalyan, one 40 O 5, so serious strengthened the dollar weakness in the end, and the yield on the ten year treasury 3.25%. And that is a look at markets. We had a lot of news after the closing bell we heard from Lululemon athletica, the company raised its full year outlook though shares are up more than 9% in the late U.S. session. We also heard from the chip maker Broadcom the company giving a very strong sales forecast for the current quarter, those shares are up about 2.3% today. Mixed finish for the equity market as we walk up to that employment report tomorrow morning special coverage of course here on Bloomberg radio at 8 30 a.m. Wall Street time yields were up across the curve, particularly at the long end today, ten year up about 6 basis points we closed around three 25, so that's where the action is going to begin in the Tokyo session. But boy, what a move in the dollar today. We had the Bloomberg dollar spot index reaching a record high. We picked up about 7 tenths of 1%, flip side of that, a much weaker yen, we are on the weak side of one 40 now, try a one 40 20 that we haven't been at this level since about 1998. In terms of an equity market price action stateside mixed finish, the Dow up nearly a half of 1%, the S&P 500 finished higher for the first time in four days, we were up about three tenths of 1%. NASDAQ composite though, down three tenths of 1%, a lot of chip stocks were down today after Nvidia said new rules governing the export of AI chips to China may affect hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue Nvidia shares down 7.7%. In terms of the eco data, U.S. manufacturing growth studied in August, weekly jobless claims came in below estimates, kind of impressive given what we've heard from the fed in that aggressive stance on tightening, but we also have to deal with the fear of recession, right? And to that point, construction spending in the month of August was down about four tenths of 1%. Dollar strength today, I mentioned that mentioned the weaker yen and the look at crude oil, which was down today by more than 3% in New York market psychology really dominated by worry over week to man, especially given the lockdown we've been talking about in the Chinese megacity of Chengdu. Hawks are the first team. They are organized on offense, but they could definitely use a guy like him. And the kings as well. The kings is like, that's more delicious to me. If I was draymond, I wouldn't go to sleep. What do you know? A minority stake in ownership. Well, we're going into this kind of player empowerment is also just off the table, right? Like draymond's going to the case in the situation. I'm just going to yeah. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah, I like the idea of I kind of reversed wanting all the young players off of the kings, like definitely just wanting Halliburton off the kids because he's so good and trying to go the other way where it's like maybe we can kind of Chris qualify the situation. Three months green type of guy. Four coach. One thing about draymond real quick. Was this not a hamstring injury that Dao has turned into a back injury? No, you know, I feel like we kind of keep going, nobody really knows what it is. But when he first was out, it was like, yeah, he's got like there's something wrong with his hamstring, right? This has been a weird NBA injury season where I think I feel like things either like morph or what was supposed to be two to three weeks turns to 6 to 8, which turns into four months. The Joe Harris story is weird, the Zion story is weird. This draymond back thing is not great. Yeah, I mean, I'm a little bit confused by that one. My first read on it was just that they probably just didn't want to give it a timeline just to leave him alone because it is also it is like a weird place in the body to have an injury as well, especially at his age. So that was my original read, but I think you also have to remember they have had issues with their medical staff in the past too. So I don't know, I guess monitor keep monitoring, but yeah, it's weird. It's weird. Hopefully he's back. The hawks like ideas is like a pretty amazing destination for draymond. He's not getting traded. But next up would be the Boston Celtics. I'm tired of hearing about the J&J duo. Even though I got the J&J shot, I just don't like Jalen and Jason. And together. And I would just love to see jaylen Brown pulled out of that situation. You guys all think Jayson Tatum's the second coming if you haven't drank, let's find out if that's true. Let's let him have his own team force him to be a little bit more of a creator. What do you think? Jayson Tatum is getting a chance to be a creator. That's for sure this season. He's not doing well. Yeah, jaylen Brown, one of the bulls. I like the idea of him in that sort of force law. I'll skip ahead. We're going to be trading vuchevich. So you can just slide right in there. And I just feel like he shouldn't have he's overtaxed in terms of how much he has a bond his hands. Let's redesign jaylen brown is kind of like a guy who hangs out in the mid post area and is more of a stretch for. And in general, let's have most of his diet be kind of like a caramel catching the ball off of like the Mars Zack Lonzo and just barreling the rim. And the bulls are 19th and defense too. And this is kind of like they're Patrick Williams before Patrick Williams gets there. There's no reality. I mean, if I'm Brad Stevens, I probably have the Durham worry or attitude that jaylen Brown doesn't get traded for anything worse than a top 30 player, right? Yeah, I mean, the bulls couldn't do it. You know, they just don't have enough assets. Although they do have a lot of passers, but anyway, the bulls are one of the teams that I had a hard time coming up with a trade for because they are really well positioned. They're well positioned and they're also like these are our guys. So it's like you would be really, really hard pressed to break up anything that changed the chemistry of Caruso de rose ravine and Lonzo, and they're all healthy. Okay, so I'm going with Jalen, get him off the Celtics. This next one I thought was pretty interesting. It came up because I was reading Zach Lowe's column, the ten things column and he was talking about Karl Anthony towns and how cats usage is starting to drop down to meet Anthony Edwards and Deangelo Russell that basically they're not always going to him and that he can get lazy passing out of double team Courtney Zach, but essentially I was just kind of wondering whether or not you felt like this number of team, I don't know if they're a lock for the playoffs, but they have like a positive point differential. There are 7th in the west. They seem like they are going to at least make the play in pretty confidently. But like, I don't know, do you still do so like cat on this team or would you like to see a different a new start for him? You know, I think I'm a few minds of it about this. So my move would be to trade somebody to the wolves. We'll get to that later. Okay. But I do see what you're saying because the other end of this is that I think towns has been there for a really long time and I don't think he's ever actually finished a situation where he's appropriately gotten the amount of touches that he should have. But at the same time, when you look at how the wolves are situated, they have a very perimeter oriented defense that can hide a lot of his flaws. And he's also just such a good passer and they have a lot of guys that are really athletic who can score. So I think over time, it's just a matter of, you know, this is kind of the iteration right now, but I think they have a reasonable shot at kind of fixing their issues internally. I think. And I think it's just a matter of, you know, I don't think Edwards or Russell is really like a natural creator. And i think they're getting back into contention based on some of the things they've accomplished as of late they add lonzo ball to a four year. Eighty five million dollar deal. They signed the. Marta rose into three year. Eighty five million dollar deal and they signed alex caruso for years thirty seven. I think this is kind of showing their mentality. Their aggression going forward and how they understand that the rest of the teams in east especially towards the top. Continue trying to figure out ways to form a big three. There continue trying to figure out what he's the surround their star players with guys who can make plays where each other make shots defend. Do little things and i think all three of these players do a little bit of everything demars elite score who can operate in the mid post area. He's got fadeaways spins. You can finish around the basket. He's gonna get to the free throw line and he's also a willing passer a guy who can initiate offense play on the ball off the ball so i think that's a strategic signing in the event that they're not able to resign zach levine. I think that's a smart smart move going forward looking at lonzo ball. Four years eighty five billion dollar deal. He's figured out ways to improve his shot. He came in and shot was a little broken. Now he's at thirty seven thirty nine percent. Three point shooter can get into the lane is a big point guard. He defends he's athletic and he's young. So the sky's limit for him from a potential standpoint. And you use around him with other scores other guys who can finish around the basket and i really liked their team. I think with their style of play. I think demars great cities of veteran guy. He plays came the right way. I think caruso has showed that he can play with superstars having played with arguably the largest duper superstar the games ever seen. He's gonna make them better. He's going teen to push lonzo ball and it gives them debt with with zach levine with lori market in all those different players they have and based on how they drafted. I think this system up for success not only in the short term but also in the long term. so i'm looking forward to seeing them. They'll compete for sure they'll make the play offs. You'll have a much better year. But i still think that the brooklyn nets in milwaukee bucks still head and shoulders above everybody but looking at the hawks. Going back to them revisiting. This situation trae young. It's five years. Two hundred seven million dollars john collins five years one hundred twenty five million dollars. They're building around their core. The building towards the future understand that trae young is a once in a lifetime you know. He's a unicorn type player. There aren't many players that are gonna come through this league like him that transcend the game of basketball from a standpoint of must see tv to being villain to hitting bigshots getting delaying being able to pass It's also his stature. Small guard who kids can kind of appreciate look up to idolize emulate Because he's not seven foot. He's not dunkin every place not doing things with supreme athleticism. He's doing things with supreme skill which is very very important to this game into fans. And i i look forward to seeing how he continues to grow and develop and john collins a guy who was drafted in the latter part of the first round is athletic has issues with the team early on in terms of accepting roles not being happy about trae young not being happy about his touches to kinda maturing throughout that season where he was like you know i could score twenty plus points a game but it doesn't matter for not winning. He said that he wanted to do whatever it takes to win. And some nice. That means you're gonna have to sacrifice and the offensive end to give more defensively some night. You're gonna have to just set screens and rebound. I think that's one of the reasons why he's able to secure that five year. Deal not just his athleticism his skill and his talent but also his willingness to kind of adjust play a role for the sake of a team and now they're able to build that core they add dang the ad will to one year. Five me no deal. Some guy. lou is going to be able to hit big shots in the fourth quarter. They got bogdonovich. They have a solid team a solid foundation players to build on for the future. And i think this is a great situation for fans and the great situation for the eastern conference because it definitely got much more deep than it was before. There's a lot of unrestricted free agents that haven't signed yet. And some that will signed sooner than later. And i think the top unrestricted free agents Remaining in the league right now obviously leonard who's probably still structuring his deal. I would imagine that it gets done later. Based on all accounts he's happy. He just bought a seven team in our home in california. He wants to be there. I would imagine they get a deal done. And he'll probably not play this next season but be making top dollar for kelly oubre along athletic wing allow teams are fans of they love. His tenacity to love is athleticism and they loved the fact that he appears to be fearless. Which can be could embed in most circumstances in cases but i think he'll be selling on a deal here shooting later and i think allow these guys have to understand the money continue to dry up not for quite linter cook literate. Not for the leonard's of the world but for for guys who won the fencer french you know maybe mid level exception. Maybe not. Maybe that minimum. The money is drying up. Who is i think. Still twenty two years old in a meaningful player that they gave up. But i thought they recovered well yesterday. I think lonzo is a fantastic. Fit with zach levine. he does. He is not a traditional half court point guard and he does not have to be on this team. He can be the hybrid guard that he was in new orleans. And i think you nailed it in recap of this. I think him in levin and transition is going to be magic. The problem isn't nick. Vuckovich is is going to be a trailing those expensive margin and you just read it a lot of stuff to get him but even in the half court vuckovich is a double team magnet in the postseason. Really good postal player even though he never draws fouls lonzo is gonna get those kickout threes. He's just going to introduce some verb and unpredictability and into their offense and but the half court in the transition game and he's a good defensive player and is a good rebounder and all of that also applies to alex caruso. I liked the way those to kind of fit with the buzzer. Doing but to your point for a team. That's been bad for a while the bulls. Don't it's matters. That caruso in lonzo young. I think that's really important for the bulls. Because they went they went too far. Accelerating with vuckovich and now they've dialed back the age curve but for a team. It is less. There's less of it. But what? I'm optimistic about it to the improvement of the people who are out there, including looking at Lori Market and Stats, Um And they're up. Maybe God is not as much as I'd like to see him. I believe in a lineup. Um, there's there's zero question Exactly V is a better player all around all around. I mean, defense is improved. I mean stuff like Shaq selection. His offensive efficiency all better. Um, I mean, nobody's ready to make you know, all MBA, but my whole thing was at the beginning. The season is in.
