"Fear, dead at the age of 66, a true tragedy. I've been playing my golden palominos. I've been playing the feelies. And Greg, there's not even one website that has a dedicated, drama. Yeah. You have to go back to your vinyl albums and CDs to find Anton's credits. Every, you know, third tier character actor in Hollywood has an IMDb page, right? Yeah. But you try to find a comprehensive list of everything Anton fear played on. It's tragic that it's not out there. Yeah, it said phenomenal drummer I got to see him play live a bunch of times. The modesty that you talk about is intriguing because he was a master and he deserved a lot more attention than he ever got, part of the reason may have been he was so self effacing. But man, the feely stuff, you were you were there as an eyewitness to those early shows. I am amazed at how great that album is. The crazy rhythms album. I mean, there isn't a weak cut on it. No, it stands. In terms of big part of it. Yeah. But you know, the thing that's amazing about Anton is that he did incredible work in so many different contexts over his career. Besides the work with the feelings you've got bob mold. But I think that the man that was really his pet project was the golden palominos. That was a rotating cast of musicians. Anton was the constant on drums. But he was also sort of like a director. He was casting each album, you know, basically coming up with a new group of players to create new music, which was very intentional. He was speaking to his omnivorous Ness as a listener and a tastemaker. Somebody who was interested in a large variety of music and wanted to explore it more fully with each album he worked on, Bill laswell was a big part of it the basis. He was on a number of those records, guitarist Nikki scope elitist, as well. But then you had this rotating cast Richard Thompson, Michael Stipe, Johnny light and Chris. People working, John zorn, the avant jazz player. So he started out working in that no wave scene in New York City, but branching out over the years. And basically making 9 albums over the course of like three decades. Incredible run of records. I want to focus on my favorite is the 1985, the second golden palominos record, a visions of excess. That was the one Stipe was on this record. And Richard Thompson as well. But the guitar player on this song is the no wave pioneer Jody Harris. He was one of the he was the guitar player in the contortions, which James chance. On the strong guitar, stipes on lead vocals, but fears drumming is so central to the concepts and themes behind this album and you can hear it here as well. A track called clustering train, you got a drummer who can sound like a train. And Anton just goes ballistic on this track. It's just like an a bomb going off when those drums really kick in. So a great example of fear is drumming, but so many different contexts in which he was a great drummer. The golden palomino is being exhibit a. Here is clustering train from the golden palominos

"We want to bring a couple of those to our radio listeners now. I'll start with Loretta Lynn. It said to have to do this at the same time, what an incredible life Loretta Lynn had 90 years of greatness. What an incredible story. You know, the song coal miner's daughter. It's really her life story in a lot of ways. And also the title of the movie that was made about her starring Sissy Spacek. An incredible piece of writing while I was born a coal miner's daughter in a cabin on a hill in butcher holler. That's exactly where she put your holler in Kentucky a coal mining community born there in 1932. She was 15 years old when she was married to Oliver Doolittle Lin, who was 21 at the time. That was in 1948. And basically Loretta Loretta's career was writing about their marriage, their relationship, their family. She was very relatable because she was telling the stories that just about every woman was going through. It was a universal universal story told about the specifics of her marriage and not literally not pulling any punches. There's a song called fish city that, you know, the fact that it was him who gave her a guitar and said, I think you've got to learn to play this, right? You know, I think he may have occasionally regretted that later. Well, you know, he did give her sad to say, but he did give her the license to do that. Said, I want you to do this. And that was important then, because you're talking about a very traditional values kind of scenario there. And Loretta in many ways transcended that. And she declared her independence as a woman in song after song. I mean, consider that when she emerged in the early 60s, there was hardly any women singing country music. When she scored her first number one hit in 1967, don't come home a drinking with loving on your mind a song about her marriage. That was the number one song. That was only the 7th number one hit by a female country artist. At the time, she had what year was that? That was 1967. So Loretta, at that point, already had four children. She heard career really didn't start until she was about 30. So you think about it, you know, a late bloomer in a lot of ways because of circumstance, you know? I'm a mom. I'm raising a family. And her husband is encouraging her to write music and it turns out she's a great songwriter. You know, I should note that here's the 7th number one hit by a female country artist, but it was the first one that was written by a female country artist. It feels a factory town. Songwriters write the songs, singers, sing them, not for Loretta. Loretta was a great songwriter, in addition to being a great singer and a great performer. So she did it all. That can't be emphasized enough how, you know, the path that she paid. 5th city in 1968. You know, you think about Dolly Parton's song jolene, she's begging the woman not to mess around with her husband 5th city is like, you mess around with my husband. I'm gonna punch you out. That's 1968. Rated X in 1972 about the stigma that divorced women would face, you know? The pill 1975 about birth control. A lot of these songs became hits, even though not all radio stations would play them. The content was considered too controversial. But she didn't care. I'm going to write about my life. Here's what I'm feeling. Here's what I'm doing. She was an incredibly relatable because a lot of women were going through the same kind of issues with their husbands or their marriages. She basically gave voice to their lives, an incredible, incredible, pioneer in that regard. The other thing that I think, and perhaps got missed a little bit in some of the contextualizing of Loretta Lynn's incredible career, was that she essentially had a renaissance when she was 70, and up forging another great era in her career at a time when most artists are retired or forgotten about, Loretta never really went away. Now, Jack White helped a little bit, you know, signed her up, got made a record where they're called van Lear rose in 2004. But white basically just said, here you go, Loretta, I'm just going to do whatever you want. Do your thing. I'm not going to, I'm not going to mess around with how great you already are. I just want you to be you. So she writes all 13 songs on this record, sings them, sings the hell out of them. Pretty sparse backing, you know, pretty much acoustic instrumentation on the record. The band is there to support her. She's the centerpiece. She makes this masterpiece at age 70. Van Lee arose. And I want to go out on a track from that particular album story of my life from van Lear rose. And, you know, what you can hear because I've been talking a lot about how she was a voice of social consciousness. But there's also humor here. Incredible amount of humor in her song that says that attitude and also poignant, but it's all here. My favorite verse in story of my life, which ends the van Lear rose record on a terrific note. Well, some big shot from Hollywood thought a movie about my life would be good. It was a big hit, made a big splash. What I want to know is what happened to the cash. Apparently not. But it's just a hilarious line the way she just sends out that zinger at the end of that verse. "This is that tough talk, which I'm into. Frankly, it feels very late 2010s Cardi B, you know what I mean? Like this is the template right here. Salty unvarnished. Uh huh. And also like real main character energy, if we're being honest, like extreme main character energy. Tell me a little bit about this streak. Because there's a bunch of them. And some of the songs are directed at a woman who is trying to insert herself into Laura's marriage, some of them are directed towards the husband. She's really like firing missiles in all directions. But talk to me a little about this era of songs because I think the radicalism of them in the moment in the context, they still feel, frankly, quite radical. But in that moment, I imagine, especially so. The way she talked about it at the time, the way she wrote about it in her first memoir, coal miners daughter. She would just say in a very matter of fact way, I'm simply writing about my life. I'm simply writing about what I know or what I see in my marriage or actual interactions, but I think that we should recognize that she was savvier than that. There's craft to this. There is wit to this in the song, don't come home a drinking. I mean, that is, that is a high water mark in my mind that in part of why I think it went down easily or more easily and people could take pleasure from it even as cold as it was is how she delivered it how she sang it. I loved her singing as much as her songs and I mean, in the verses of that, she uses vibrato to kind of soften the blow a little bit there when she's calling out this lousy, drunken, sexually aggressive male partner, you know, and then she hits those bright and clear and fired up notes, but she circles around to those high notes during the during the chorus.

"Remember well the well where I drew water. When Loretta Lynn was a little girl, she used to sing her baby brothers and sisters to sleep. Enroll is The Economist's obituaries editor. She used to sit on the board swing in their cabin in butcher hollow in Kentucky. The wonderful boys of Loretta Lynn was soon to become known far beyond those hills. She became America's most successful female country music star. She had 16 number one hits in the country music chart, and she also sold 45 million records. And she was always very surprised by this because she reckoned that the people back home wouldn't think she was very much at all. So she was not really a great musician and never learned to read music, but she could certainly put a song across. And a lot of that was due to her training and growing up hearing the local Appalachian songs. Because all she was was a poor coal miners daughter. Long cabin on a man is and this made her extremely shy about going out into the world with her voice. She remembered only once getting a really nice dress, otherwise most of her clothes were made from flower sex. The children had to share shoes. And all these bits and pieces found their way into perhaps a most famous song coal miners daughter. Miners don't and the legend of the coal mine really colored everything she did after that. She had a backing group and she called them the coal miners. When she got a tour bus to go around the country, she went on Turing into her 70s. There was a golden coal mine that painted on the side of it a shovel she sang about all sorts of things the men would never think to sing about. Such as being tied down to domestic drudgery for days on end, as in a song, one's on the way. The one that was on the way was another baby, of course she herself had four children by the time she was 19. It's flat all the way to France. There was another song about the unfairness of women's divorce. It was fine to divorce if you were a man and you were still pretty attractive on the marriage market. But if you were a woman, you had taken to be no good and fast. That was called X rated so you don't then she was just saying about the joy of the birth control pill. Which was introduced when she was at the peak of her singing, although she herself, ironically, never used it. Hence all the children. You showed me the world and that song was called the pill. Her peak years of fame was it coincided with the women's liberation movement. But she wasn't a fan of that. Nonetheless, because it was happening all around her and she couldn't help but sympathize with the women involved. She sang a song called we've come a long way, baby. The upper hand. But how come you think you're so smart? If you yourself directed a lot of her songs, in fact, she said 90% of them at her husband. His name was Oliver Lynn, he was a local boy. She met him at a pie social, which was an occasion, much loved in the hills where you would bake a pie or a cake,

"Daughter. Country singer Loretta Lynn has died at 90 this week. The daughter of a coal miner herself whose songs about life and love set her on top of the country music industry. This morning, we remember Loretta Lynn, with Brian Mansfield, managing editor of the country insider with his tech. She was a wonderful, wonderful woman She was the kind of person that would just make you feel completely at home and at ease no matter how starstruck you were. And making people at ease, you know, it was such a gift given all of the adversity she had faced in her life and how she turned that adversity into something everyone can relate to. Well, and I really think that was why she was able to relate to people so well. I mean, she literally was the living myth of the rags to riches country music story coming from just absolute poverty in rural Kentucky to being an international music icon. She didn't just sing, she wrote all these songs. That's what an achievement that was. Well, exactly. And she was one of the first artists in any form of popular music in our lifetimes to really write this songs that she was known for actually went back and looked when she had her first number one hit. Don't come home at drinking with 11 on your mind in 1967. It had been two full years since any female solo artist it had a number one hit in country and there had only been three other women in the entire decade that had done it and none of them wrote their own songs. Loretta did. And she was really bold because her songs were honest. She wrote songs that were controversial and some radio stations didn't want to play them. And I don't know that it was that she was bold. Although she certainly was, I think it was just there wasn't any filter between what she thought and what she said and what she wrote and she would just say things and this stuff would come out. A couple of collaborations I want to talk to you about. We played to her classic with Conway Twitty heading into this segment. And then there was Jack White in 2004. She teamed up with the guitarist from white stripes to produce a Grammy winning album. That to me was maybe one of her greatest achievements. It really was because it brought her to a whole new generation of fans. It really showed what she could do on what people knew her for. And just how well respected she was across the entire musical world. And it was just, I remember those two together, there was a big party here for all of them. When that came out, and it was just, you would look at Jack White and tell how much he absolutely adored her and she from a young talented star like him. What would you like people to remember about her? Just how funny she was because she was just there's such a wonderful humor to those songs when she's being a real Spitfire. And

And he has been cleared by the doctor. So they will practice tomorrow. He will start practicing tomorrow. He has 21 days. The team does whether or not to activate him. Saran Rivera, do you have to manage expectations with Robinson when he gets back? We do, we have to be smart about how we're going to handle him when we got to handle those expectations. We also got to handle what he's going to go through physically and mentally. I mean, it's a different set of circumstances. You know, I don't know any other player that I've coached that's had to go through this. And we'll see how he looks tomorrow when he gets back on. The practice field is Washington will get set for the Tennessee Titans come to town on Sunday last night it was the niners over the rams, 24 9 Matt Stafford sacked 7 times, niners looked pretty good rams, not so much, two and two. Both teams are now on the season. In Dallas, what will Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy do when dak Prescott gets back? Well, Jerry Jones is not ruled out, Prescott from playing Sunday against the rams, but he says the football they grip on the football is not just there yet. I love how Jerry's talking about making all these decisions. But then nothing from the head coach, right? Whether or not it's quarterback's gonna play. That's right. So the cowboys faced the rams and we'll see if dak Prescott is back on the field. Baseball today in New York just two days left in the season Nats and Matt still have three games to play. What It Was Like to Interview Shima Oliaee

"Hello and welcome to fight podcasting the show in which. Discuss their craft I'm your host Sky Pillsbury. This is a post show episode in which two very special guests will talk to me about last week's episode in which I interviewed Dolly Pardons America producer. Mo only if you haven't heard that episode, I recommend going back and listening to it before you listen to this one that way, our conversation may make a little bit more sense. Today on the show I have with me, the two people most likely to remember my obsession with Dolly Parton. My wonderful parents welcome to the show, mom and Dad Hey. Hi there. Thank you so much for saying yes. Welcome On this kind of show you guys get to ask me questions. I have the first question here ready to go all right dad. Right. Do you feel a part of dollars America? That is a really good question Yes, I think am I mean I must be one hundred percent because I'm a fan, so I think by default that makes me part of her America, because you know I know who she is. I adore her like so many others. Of course that begs the question like what is Dolly, Parton America, and I think one of the points that she made in last week's episode was that Dolly is sort of this prison for everyone else's story? And I'm not sure that I have a particular story to tell but I think that the aura surrounding Dolly is sort of like. Everyone can be part of it. No matter what walk of life you come from and so I guess in that regard. Be Part of Dolly Parton America. She talked about the feelings of otherness enduring during her show. Do you resonate with that at all? I probably don't if I'm being really honest and. That's because I am very privileged in my life, so you know I am female. I'm white. I've had opportunities that many many people don't get to have. I went to college. I got a good job after college. I sort of did the things that I expected I would do. Thus far in my life. But I think that the way that I can relate with that was what Shima said about how she and Chad are both first generation Americans and you are a first generation American, Dad. And so you know what it made me think, and even in the show, because during the show Jad talks about how her dollies Tennessee Mountain home, reminds his father of his home. Overseas, you know of course I couldn't help but think about our family home in northern Finland, so of course I thought about like the listener. Any listener to this doesn't know is that I grew up going to Finland with you every summer and you know spending many many many many days. Not Whole Lot to do kind of like the countryside of Finland in this tiny town with a population of eight hundred people, where almost no one spoke English, and then of course I would spend a lot of time in Helsinki as well where people did, but you know I remember the excitement that I had the day that you got your citizenship when we were living in Hawaii. I remember you wore a suit and that was a big deal because you were is most of the time. So. You know I remember that feeling, but I don't ever feel I can't say that I ever felt other, but I. Think I knew that you at times felt authored. What about you? Well I guess what I was wondering about is. Dolly is also a what I would call a country girl. you got to know people who were definitely from the country, not from the city. That's true. Maybe I speculate that that may have had something to do with your level of comfort with Dali. Oh. That's interesting. Also expressed some interest in Loretta Lynn during that time. I loved Laura Adeline and I think I I remember i. read the Book About Her. Was the book called? Coal, miner's daughter, I don't know. I did identify with those two, but I don't know I can't like point to a memory where I connected those two things myself. You Know My love for them like I. Really Loved Donna Summer at the same time. She's not from the country and I think honestly I think. They spoke to my infatuation with Glamour, and even though I knew that they were from the country. It's sort of like they were like these unimaginable. Creatures all three of those women. They were like such a shiny thing, and then I love the music and I love to dance, but I think that I always had an interest in people who are different than me, and that's why like when we were in the countryside in Finland like I could hang out with Vinnie me. Who is the violin player? You know for hours or make friends with the girl who lived across the street Rita, even though we. We didn't speak the same language, and like really enjoy those people because it was like exposing me to this completely different way of life. You know just a way of life that I wasn't familiar with and I think that in a way Dali Donna. It sort of showed me a completely different slice of
