"Your left back. Then you have jaw Paulo, who goes down and goes down in a way that really could have sucked the energy right out of Seattle. It's one of those injuries, no contact. It's on that stupid turf, and that really could have taken something out of that team. And actually, I thought, did grab a hold of that first half for a second. If I was a sounders fan right around that 30, 35 minute, I might have been a little bit worried. But then they do what great teams do and maybe you say pumas also does what teams that don't win trophies do. They get a goal right before the half. And for me, that changed everything to your point about the big names. Remember after the first like her, got kind of criticized. I said, I didn't really think the stars for Seattle played that well and say oh, played that well. There were moments for lode of the penalty, whatever. Boy, the stars were so good and there is no better example of that than the second goal. It's literally all of Seattle's stars, right? It starts. I think with root snack, then it goes Christian roll down, then it goes Alex hold on, up the wing divorce, Morris across for loreto loreto de ruy Diaz, I mean, that's the guys that you need it and they made the play to clinch this thing. There was a lot that went right there for sure. I will also add Stephan fry, even the clay that was called off sides. That wasn't an official shot. The fact that he put that out gave everybody such a confidence in it. Next man up mentality. You hear this so much from the Seattle sounders. They invented this phrase that Major League Soccer like they invented a lot of things in Major League Soccer. But it really was the case. I mean, I've been on television at the port. This all day and never once, if I heard anything about the two players from Seattle Sanders going down, the importance of know who told her on the left hand side, and a player playing at a position in Keller wrote coming on as his backup. And then obey Vargas is a 16 year old player. I've heard at nauseam at Nazi about look at boomer's bench. Look at all these kids at nauseum. There was a 16 year old, the only 16 year old, the only teenager on that field was a bit of a dis. So it goes to show this next man up mentality by sounders. Yeah, next man up, and I'm sure a lot of that, of course, has to do with the manager as well. Brian Schmidt, but since you mentioned Stephen Fry, boy, he didn't just hang some team banners.

"I'm Steve Bertrand. Thanks very much for tuning in. All right, uh, on the phone line now is Jonathan Daniels. He is the employee of the Year for Loreto Hospital. And that's just the start of a Jonathan. Thank you for squeezing me and I appreciate it. I thank you for having me tonight. I'm just so grateful s. Oh, is this your downtime? You've got seven minutes of downtime today. Absolutely. That's just about right. All right. I'm gonna have Jonathan tell you his story himself, But he's 25 years old. His mom works at the hospital, and he just recently graduated from, I think was Concordia. Right, Jonathan? Yes, that's correct. Okay, gets a job at the hospital, You know, just make a little cash, probably living at home. I don't know. And then he's going to go to California to make his way in Silicon Valley. How am I doing so far? You're doing good and then Cove it struck and you got struck by lightning as well. You now say that this is the place you belong and you might never leave. Yes, that is sure. Tell me about that. I stepped into Loretta Hospital has you have said it was just a spot for me to be able work, get some experience and move on. But as a covert struck, it took me, um several several opportunities to sit down and really think about what my passion was and where I wanted to go with my job And with my goals in my dreams and A tuna coated hit. I spent day in and day out inside the cove. It's 10 outside the cove, a tent working right alongside some of my greatest co workers that I have Rachel and lucky shirt who both have been sitting there, child do day in and day out working with me alongside of me on Daz. I begin to go down the line of what Kobe 19 was. I began to open my mind and learn more. I went and did my own research on what? What it is I I reached out to our research team at the hospital to figure out what ways can potentially be a part of this covert task force that could help diminish such a crazy. Such a, um Bad endemic that we've been through over the course of 10 11 months Now, as we keep going forward, we were drawn to you. Our attention was drawn to you in that great piece by the great reporter Stacy Sinclair for the Tribune, and she writes about a night early in the pandemic. When You watch someone get very sick right before your eyes. Can you recall that for me? Yes. So we have job opportunities where you can sit inside the e R and we monitor patients on the hourly bases, And it gave me a new opportunities explores tomorrow what I wanted to do. And that night I had just been chosen to sit in the ER on. There was a guy that I had been watching over time He was talking. Everything was fine. He had just eaten and everything was perfect on Ben. Just a few short minutes. Right after that, the gentleman began to cough really loudly. And then, as he began to cough, blood used to blood spewed out of his mouth all over the floor across the room on that that point I felt helpless like I didn't know what I could do on day. That was my biggest eye opener because ah lot of people believe that Cove It isn't real or Coke. It is not a thing. But that really gave me the biggest eye opener to say that Kobe is here. It's real, and we really need to take the precaution story on Lee because I would not like to see anyone else in our ER. That has to experience what they experienced during that time of Coughing up blood and having a bunch of people rush in and shoving, choose places and and trying to get you under control and not sure if the opportunity for them to stabilize you or if there's any opportunity to try and get you the care that you need in that aspect, So it was a really big eye opener for me. So that's inside. You're also outside every morning. Is it working with vaccinations or testing or what are you doing then? So during the morning I used to go out to the tent that we have unsafe and I go into its fist. Rachel Lakisha who are over the tent, and I just make sure that their supply with students, I make sure that people who are walking up for testing just get a little bit of customer service. And that just all comes through with a good morning a night compliment something just to get their day started while they're at the tent. Because it is something that no one wants to do. But I just want to make sure that they can sit in and still well, While though there is no moment that's not customer service that's love. Thank you. Yeah. Um s o the You also are a cheerleader for a treatment program there and the selling people in the vaccinations, right? A lot of black people are very leery of the vaccine. Vaccinate vaccine, I should say, And there's a quote from you again and Stacy's article. Where it says How about having Austin be first in something? Let's be first here. Your cheerleader for the treatment program. Explain that for me. Um, I work over the social media for the Loretta Hospital in a lot of the times. If we're posting anything Cove in 19 related. There's a lot of times we get negative common negative messages in terms of just Hold it. Not a thing. Why should we do it? Have you heard of the Tuskegee? All these things that just want to diminish any possibility of getting the vaccination And I always tell anyone that is very wary about getting the vaccination I've got in my first dose and 21. Days later, I got my second dose and about 90% of my co workers. My teammate. People who are really close to me have also done the same. And they are perfectly fine on day. I just believe that I want to cheer and I want to support and I want to bring noted to all of this because we are allowing a lot of social media. A lot of heat say she's they deter, Um what we should be following and this is a great opportunity to be able to say why not often. Boston usually never gets a lot of things that the rest of the city of Chicago gets. And for us to have the opportunity to have the city of Chicago Pic de Loreto Hospital for the, UM Let me be the on and also just the vaccinations in general on D. So this would be such a good thing in such a big thing for often because we can finally say that we were the first community to get the vaccine and be healthy and start that up. Rise to say, Hey, this is what we should be doing. Jonathan Daniels works at Loreto Hospital as an employee and a volunteer. Jonathan, We're lucky to have you I'm glad you're here. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work, okay, but I will Thank you so much for taking the time. I'll absolutely you're listening to Chicago's afternoon news. Here's Mary. "Shots to her hospital's front line Workers. But at Loreto and at hospitals around the country, not every eligible health care worker actually wants the vaccine. Doctor do body joins me now to talk about how she's been addressing that welcome. Thank you for having me. So there was this recent survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation that showed nearly a third of health care workers probably would not, or definitely would not get the vaccine. I'm curious. Are you seeing that same level of distressing your own hospital? Yes, we are. Actually, we did a survey right before the vaccine came out in anticipation. It was a general survey just asked a question, basically as to where you work in the hospital. And would you or would you not get the vaccine when it is your turn? We came up with 60% said Yes. And 40% actually said no lose numbers are surprising to me because we're talking about health care workers who I guess you would think would trust the available science. So what do you think, is driving this hesitation to get these shots, at least among your own staff? You know there's a lot of different factors, but there's some things are reasonable. Let's say that pregnant woman or breastfeeding woman can say that there's not enough research. But then there's a wider hesitancy that almost is not rooted in the available science, just like you said. Especially among her staff, which reflects the wider community. I mean, I've heard Tuskegee more times and I can count in the past month and You know, it's a valid valid concern and an African American population and to some extent in the Latino population. There are reasons for this being. There's no transparency between pharmaceutical companies or research companies or the government, sometimes on how many people from those communities were actually involved in the research. So they have they have an issue with that, And then they have also heard the word guinea pig and because that community was used, unfortunately as guinea pigs, whether it was Tuskegee, whether is heading out to lax is, um, cells being used without her permission that caused them. You have this mistrust. So what we want to need to do is figure out how to move forward with that. Well, I want to ask about how to move forward because, as you say your hospital staff reflects the broader community. That you were in. You are in a neighborhood called Austin, which is majority black. And this Kaiser survey that I decided it also showed that a third black Americans overall or hesitant to get covert shot, so if some of your own health care workers are hesitant About the vaccine are are skeptical how you convinced the broader community where you are that they should be getting vaccinated. So we've had town halls, answering questions of every kind. Whether it's What is an M R any vaccine? What is the difference between one on the other, Be honest about the side effects, and I tell them the answers to those questions very honestly and very transparently. One thing I will tell you that has really worked is one on one conversations So it usually goes something like, Hey, what are your concerns, and the first thing you have to do is listen to those concerns. Do not dismiss them and then explain an answer Those questions the best of your ability. Do you picture at some point if people remain reluctant that you're just gonna have a bunch of vaccine Sitting around unused when these shots become more widely available, So we've seen that already. To a certain extent. We need to have built in safety nets for that, meaning, okay, we are going to give somebody 100 doses of the vaccine. Let's say only 60 of their workers. Take it. Who would they partner with that? If they don't, they're staff. Don't take it. We give it immediately to those other people. That takes so much logistics and planning that I can't even imagine how massive a test that is, But with the vaccine hesitancy that is going on right now, we are going to end up with wasted doses. If we don't do that. Dr. Nikki Lejeune body is the chief clinical officer at Loreto Hospital in Chicago's Westside neighborhood of Austin. Thank you very much for joining us today. Thank you for having me. This winter, millions of small businesses are barely surviving. Congress has approved another round of loans to help those businesses. "But I used to put all this f it I'd put logos on it. Swells that'll be chocolate spring coups. And that was it was my goal was whatever my task was at the time. I thought this is what I'm going to really push for two to see if I can accomplish it. It helped me so much in in my own head in terms of trying to wrap my head around to focus a bit more. And then when actually came to the hairdressing side of it was in. I wanna be the quickest person that's ever qualified history. I want to be the first person to do this. I think 'cause we were lucky because all college used to come into the Sal on China dies in the Monday night passes off. And I think I went to college actually in the building about four times. And I one student of the year to resign. Yeah. Still ten. Shoot. I didn't even know half the people in my class thinking twice how long did you train intake? Show. It would get to that now because it took less, but it probably did take me two years. I got through it quite quick. They and then we had to do this luck evolve. During thing, I'm basically what we did was you had to do a hundred free haircuts and they had to OB ticked off. And they couldn't be the same hacker. And it be the same person. So unless the person is going to have a change it didn't count. So effectively what it did? It was really good because. It allowed me to build a clientele. Get used to running a column at both have no pressure dealing with a real client. So I just used to drag people in off the street at the same time. We introduced this thing in this Alan, and it was whilst training, which I still think is one of the cleverest ideas I've seen, and it's one of those things that when assistance comes towards the end of their training, and they focus more than trying to be hairdressers into more have. They don't want to do as much as someone who's probably just started in terms of cleaning jobs like that. So what they did was they said, look we are going to introduce this new scheme code the twelfth time blow dry and basically anytime of day any day of the week. If someone walks in here and wants to blow dry and doesn't wanna pay stylist price, you've got to for twelve pounds some sockeye fund, and that then I set my challenge, and I actually did the stylist we were we resist together, and there's a few of us in they'd progressed, and my target was to bring in more money than one of the stylist in twelve pump blow dryer than I did it myself. A month. Did you really? Yeah. Honest to God, my fingers were bent to Kris van deteriorate. You do with the. Absolutely tonight, five still one of my favorite things in the world is is blow drying now still makes so much just on the basis of that. And it taught me about it taught me about money in in a solemn environment. And it taught me about targets and it taught me about setting yourself those goals, and I think from a salad environment that some important, and I know it's probably like a lot of the guys took in these days in the things that people talking about now seems quite why away, you know, it's a far more traditional thing. But you know, that was kind of where I got my star. And then when I was nineteen time. Rep came in from Loreto, and she said, which is why my training took a little bit longer because she basically said is this training program coming out, and I've never actually publicly admitted this to anyone apart from a couple of people in courses, you're definitely getting escape here. Good. But basically, she said we've got this training program. I think it'd be really good for. And I said what is it that it's called the idea artists?.
