"Enough last year to put them back in line. Unchain lemieux is like the worst graded guard in the nfl by pro football focus. So we all. I think we all thought this was their biggest neekam in the off season. They made the bull choice. Stick with the guys. They have in the process there. But i think they need to bring in somebody that at least can push especially interior. I think the guards in particular. I'm worried about so if they can bring in a guard that can actually push them. You push hernandez. I think that would be ideal. Yeah the one thing that doesn't make sense to me is giants fans that that are in my time line. Keep pushing for for austin writer who the starting center in in kansas city. A year ago and and to me i get the fact that writer is a is at least an adequate. Nfl center and could do that job but to me that one. That moved doesn't make sense for the simple reason that that you don't want to sort of blow this offensive line up. Because then you've gotta play nick gates at guard and and you're you're you're movin gates to guard at and i don't think that's a road the giants wanna go down right now. I i don't know if you if you feel like that something that they should think about. But but i just don't want to reshuffle everything at this point. Yeah i think that's I think that's a fair point Yeah but i. I mean i like while i agree with you. I don't know if i would rule that. I think they would like if they saw a guy that bayview as like an upgrade at center and then you put negates at right guard i think they would consider doing. I wouldn't do it necessarily but I mean they. They need to get the best five out there. What whatever that looks like. And if you have to move. Nick maybe they move on but i don't know that's it's going to be one of the interesting things this like. This group is already so thin. And then if any of these starters get hurt then there anymore trouble so Again i i get the sense that they're going to try and make either make a trader in grab somebody on the waiver. Wire something like that. But we'll see i find it interesting that that they're in cleveland this week and and the browns happened to be one of those. Nfl teams that happens to have a lot of offensive line depth. And i know there's a lot of giants front office folks You know floating around watching these joint practices. Push comes to shove. I wouldn't be surprised if one of those backup. Cleveland offensive lineman winds up on the giants roster in You know in a couple of weeks. Yeah yeah they've they have a couple of interesting guys guy on a michael done on. I don't know if the cut him necessarily but or even if it's a trade or something but he He like his made. His first started his career in the playoffs last year. When one of their lineman got kobe any didn't allow single pressure. So he's interesting in a couple of other guys that i think the giants would definitely look at the so. Let's turn to Let's turn to the other side of the ball. Let's turn to the giants defense. And and i know that that the giants gave up that sort of a hail mary touchdown you know and i think it was a a two minute drill How did you think that the giants defense held up overall any eleven. Eleven yesterday Yeah you know that. La- last two minute drill. I like two minute drill. Maybe an air quotes because the browns are like taking time in a. I'm pretty sure two minutes expired. I think baker mayfield had like eleven pass attempts and he only completed five of them but the problem was they kept giving up third down versions on the drive and the touchdown again. I'm not sure if it was would actually been a touchdown because you know trent hairs. Lorenzo carter looked like they might have sacked baker mayfield early pressure in the not throwing it. But you know anything. Kevin kevin's fancy said. Even almost blew the whistle on that. So i don't know if necessarily been touchdown but either way like even if the was act like they they should defended that better like the two minute events. Douse a problem. But otherwise. I think the defense played pretty well. The one issued ad was with jarvis. Landry which somme i wrote about this morning actually he He was dominating this the secondary. He's a very talented player. But i think it kind of emphasizes that for as good as secondaries. I think there are questions about how they're gonna be able to defend the slot. 'cause i'm i'm high darna homes. I think he showed some flash last year took his bums thing. He struggled a bidding camp. But that's that's definitely not like a guaranteed guy that you can necessarily rely on to stop guys landry so i think that's good i am but yeah i mean otherwise. No james bradberry shutting things down. I think there's a lot of pressure i think. Lorenzo carter look great. Thing was his first full practice in a while oceans. Simon is looking pretty good. Trend harris doesn't getting a lot of reps at the first team as easily Rem if you pressures. I'd say in terms of that stuff. I thought it went pretty well. It's interesting. I wanted to ask you about the slot because my thought with the giants in the slot is obviously darnay. Homes is option one. We haven't seen erin robinson at all since rookie mini camp I'm guessing at this point that he lands on the pup list to start the season or stays on the pup list. But the way i think about the giants in the slot is they have a lot of options. But do they have one really really good option. If you know if you agree with that yeah. I do i. He looking nefa robinson was healthier. Emmys iraqi and rookies murky corners especially a nickel like i. I think jerome henderson it. Well he called. He called like enough corner like the traffic cop. 'cause they're just like in the middle of the field there's so much going on around them and in it's tougher rookie to come in. And that's why teams are targeting darnell. I last year. So even if robinson was healthy what she's not. I don't know if you can call that. Like you can be confident in him. And there are other options. You know the Mckinney get some.

"Alright giants fans ed. Valentine back here on. Valentine's views podcast talking with patricia trainer. Giants country in the lock done giants podcast as we preview. You're twenty twenty one giants training camp which begins officially on tuesday. Patty we've been talking about offense. Let's talk a little bit about defense and really the one the one topic that i find really interesting. Entering training camp on defense is how the edge rusher situation is going to pan out. I think the giants have so. Many options are on the edge. Do you find that to be one of the most fascinating position groups entering camp. I do you know. There's an old saying you know quant. Quality is better than quantity. The giants have quantity but do they have quality. I think they do you know. I like z's larry i think he's gonna develop into a fine every down. You know edge. Rusher for them If lorenzo carter is fully healthy and it was a good sign that we saw him during the The spring he was on his way to becoming quite a force before that injury that he suffered. Now what about the rest of the gang there. What are they gonna get from. Ellison smith who was deaf. I believe they're fourth-rounder you know is ryan anderson. Done a play a role there What about o'shane zimmer. Says who seems to be the forgotten guy. What kind of role is he gonna play. And then you have some linebackers you know cam brown and carter coughlin. Did some some edge work last year. But you know. I think carter coughlin's going back towards the to being an inside linebacker more than at edge rusher is cam brown a situational guy so you have a bunch of guys there that you know the question is do. They have a guy who's going to be productive or tune. They really need a strong three man rotation i think at that position. I don't know that they have it yet. We have to see if they do but based on what they have on paper you can make the argument that they do but you know what they have on paper versus with they have on the field two very different things so definitely something to keep an eye on and you know the other thing on defense that i'm really interested in is how the how the secondary shakes out just in terms of how patrick graham uses all of the pieces that that they have have competition in the slot. You between darnay homes and rookie. Third round pick aaron robinson. Plus you have several other defensive backs capable of playing in the slot. You've got lots of competition for for backup spots in the defensive secondary. You've got xavier mckinney heading into his second year hopefully his first full season first healthy season. Is there any any position battle. Anything in this secondary that that really intrigues. You enter camp. Just how many different combinations can patrick graham. Come up with. i mean. This is kind of like a rubik's cube in a away except Instead of trying to solve get all the you know the colored squares to match on each side of the cube. There's so many different combinations that he can put together you know. Is he going to put a for. Example xavier mckinney in the slot on third downs whereas aaron robinson gonna fit in. Is he going to be the star linebacker. Is he gonna take over the slot. So there's a lot of questions but there's also a lot of different combinations that i think pacha gram. He's you know if i'm patrick graham. I'm probably sitting there. And i can't wait to run through some of these combinations and see what works what doesn't work and then figure out when i'm going to deploy them in certain game situations and there. There's a lot i mean. There's probably once that we probably haven't even thought of the patrick graham on his long list of you know personnel. Pack is probably has come up with a few new and creative ways to deploy those guys if we know grand patty. He'll he'll he'll come up with a few more of those tuesday morning. Sure he's probably know. Hey interesting things about the giants last season. Patty was that they struggled in some areas on special teams. Graham gano had a tremendous year as placekicker but the giants didn't get a whole lot from their return game canaries..

"To think you're right about that. Steve hey if you know. Obviously everybody's got their fingers crossed. You hope that things go. Well you hope that that daniel jones steps up it. You're absolutely right. I think that so much of how the giants season goes. It is in the hands of daniel jones but in in your mind thinking ahead. What happens if it doesn't go well. What happens if he doesn't make that step. What happens if the giants are six or seven win. Team are are the giants not only looking for another quarterback maybe another offensive coordinator. They also looking for a new gm at that point to absolutely. Yeah i believe they are. I believe this is a critical year for dave gettleman as well because he could is legacy on the line with daniel generals now. I didn't agree with the pig. At number six i was. I was couvert along when he was a rookie But versus the guy and this is the guy that everybody in the organization believes on but if daniel jones isn't the guy than i think you're gonna see their annual luck. David gilman ahead out to cape cod. He'll they'll steph down pedestrian negative I i don't think that's going to happen. I think daniel jones is going to restore fate in the quarterback position with the new york giants. I i love. I think daniel jones what it takes and i just i if if he feels shame on him because he's got all the weapons you need and and say return is just huge. But they've got to be right about the office of wide left the cake. That'd be right about the office of why and they believe they would. You know we'll see about that Remember also the defense with patrick graham. Keep the game close for daniel jones dewitt so daniel jones has to be at his best in the fourth. The way you. I manning always was over two years and i'm looking for a breakout year. I was looking for last year from lorenzo carter. What are you thinking.

"Going to be a whole i think lorenzo carter is going to be very good he at four sacks as a rookie linebacker georgia last year b._j. hill is a really good interior linemen like he did well in that draft last year they also thought they did well the college a couple of years ago he's gone so we can't say they did that well i think there is an emotional tearing down of everything jerry reese did as there should be because the last couple of years jerry reese was horrendous i think i think that's happening and they're they're starting over and and it's hard to it's hard to fault them for that but people will the bigger the bigger story and we'll get to it at some point is the cleveland browns so crushed print up those super bowl tickets david diggle thirteen and three minimally destroy you cover everybody a._f._c. north how do you cover every average thirty five points a game jarvis landry calloway by the way david and joke and they picked up in the off okuda oh that's right fremont ridiculous i had a pretty good offensive line and on the other side myles garrett vernon if he stays healthy denzel awarded terrific quarterback taken fourth brown rounds are stacked they should be the story yup the problem is the new york giants will take precedence because they got rid of one of the most exciting players that we've seen in a long time that will fade eventually that attention spotlight agree we'll go off the giants 'cause that's temporary the giants and try to take a below the belt shot the giants will get back in there four and twelve five and eleven hole and try to recalibrate and build up the roster and as they're doing that quietly and hopefully effectively for giant fans for my partner the browns will be on on sunday night football the browns will be four twenty five eastern c._b._s. would dance and the browns will be destroyed people and you know what the browns fans deserve agreed we'll get to that obviously more intimately coming up on the brown side what do you think of the trade wow we haven't even gotten a bell in detail but this is crazy eight five five two one two forty two twenty-seven n._f._l. does rock and right now your calls coming up giants tear it down and the browns trying to get to a place they've never been to the super bowl wow tiki and tierney c._b._s. sports radio so you've got plans to finally do some work on your car puts up you're ready to go you're missing a tool.

"You have Marquis store. You have Earl Thomas who's going to be coming off an injury tyrant. Matthew. So there's there's some some top tier guys. And then you have guys who maybe if you do now go for a guy like trae Boston who's probably going to be a little cheaper. I think that route mean the bar to upgrade at safety is so low for the giants that you don't totally need to go all out. And it also depends on how the league now is going to view the safety position. Again this year if it's another crazy year whether or not really throwing out a lot of money there's going to be value to be had at this position again. So you kinda think happy to see how the market comes out because maybe the giants can get a huge upgrade and not pay a lot of money, which would absolutely be ideal. Yeah. If they could somehow walk walkaway from this free agency period by keep. Ping. You know, some of their better players not having to release them for cab money, maybe come out with Tyronn. Matthew Andrel Thomas, which if you look at the caliber of player, that's an absolute moonshot. But if the market doesn't correct upwards at safety, it might be doable. Elsie I think that that would take a lot of cat. Maneuvering, I believe even if the market doesn't fully correct itself. I think those two guys are probably going to get a decent amount of money. But, but if you have a guy like a Boston, I think he should be someone the giants do target. It'd be a huge upgrade probably won't cost a lot. I still only twenty seven right now. So I think that's that's where to go. But I I think I think we both agree. And I'm not sure if this is where the giants are going to go, but the secondary should. Be where the giants are really putting their efforts in improving and the pass rush as few sacks as they had that should not be where they do most of the focus and fuel like major improvements are needed there. Because the pressure was there and the sacks are going to come. That's really just how it works. So. Really scared. They are going to cut Vernon and try to bring in some other big number one piece either with the six overall pick or paying a lot in free agency. And those pass rushers are going to cost a lot more in free agency than a safety or corner are going to and then it's just going to be a wash because of how the pass rush would have improved. Anyway. So I think I just want like to have that overall view of the secondary should be a much higher priority of what they need to improve than the pass rushes. Definitely the pass. Rush should be built upon. They've got a foundation there. Hopefully, hopefully, Lorenzo Carter will be able to realize his potential it might take another year of development as he basically gets used to playing just edged instead of wearing all the hats like he did. In georgia. But he's got that just freakishly freakish spark rating, which we both said in a few times the giants need on defense. They need those kind of just ridiculous athletes who can out athlete the offense of player. Now. He just needs to be able to put that to use..

"Just sometimes the sax weren't there. But pressure is a good thing to get. And that's what the pass rush can do. They can we do so much getting pressure. And if a team is getting rid of the ball quickly and just there's so many other places in offense can control whether pressure turns into. Saks probably more than the defense can control that. So the giants got pressure. It just didn't always end in taking the quarterback down and alleviate Vernon is you know, basically, the embodiment of that. He was great creating pressure is just didn't always come into sex. Although in the last few games of the season, though, sack started coming because he was consistently in the backfield nexgen stash just tweets out the other day since week twelve and this was including the playoffs QB precious per game alleviate Vernon was number one. That's that was a head of coil. Math those a head of trae flowers. I was head of Aaron Donald. So alleviate Vernon was a guy who was getting to the passer, very often. And that is something he should be commended for and not Renault for because those Saxton come. Yeah. Part of that has been because of the giants coverage. They just haven't had the ability to keep the ball in the quarterbacks hands disrupt those quick routes so quarterbacks could get the ball out before Vernon could get there. Another part. I think is that he pretty much was their pass rush except for BJ hill who really started to come on towards the end of the season and get a more consistent push his own, but Vernon has pretty much always been a guy who creates pressure, but he needs. Either someone to keep a quarterback from running away from him or someone to create pressure on the other side. So either he or the other guy will be able to convert he was at his absolute best when JP was in New York, and before he had his sports hernia, and he was coming on the two of them just fed off of each other. And personally, I think that's what Vernon needs again. He needs a wingman. Yen the giants that was one place where the giants took that the quantity over quality shot. The at that secondary position. I mean, they had the third round pick in Lorenzo Carter. He improved a little bit. I still want to see a lot more development from him as a pass rusher. Some of that happened in the second half of the year. But he still a very raw pass rusher. They had corre- Martin who was another guy who create. The pressure that didn't always turn into Saks Connor borrow in was supposed to be a veteran a free agent that help their he did a little bit. But he is already not going to be returning to the giants announced that this week. And so there were just a number of of attempts at secondary option, but no one really stood out to help. And that was I think the biggest problem rather than Vernon who gets a lot of the blame because he's the highly paid guy, but he did his job. He was getting to the quarterback. So yeah, I think when we look at this the getting that depth there and getting maybe a better comment in the pass rush is something that's going to help that entire unit going forward. Absolutely. And I think this is a pretty good time before we get way ahead of ourselves and start talking about how they could improve to go to good of the middle of the defense and the interior defensive line, which per. Personally, I think is probably their best best and strongest unit. Yeah. They if if you want some hope this is probably where you wanna look, especially when you wanna look at the young players..

"I think that's for the most part, I'm fine with that occasionally you're going to be wrong. Yeah. I mean, look at like someone like like Michael Bennett on the eagles. And when he was on the Seahawks. He's someone who's going to get called for encroachment all the time. But he has also has one of the best jumps off the line in the league. And he's been one of the league's best pass rushers. So if you can get that, which maybe the giants eventually get to that point where they have someone who can do that. I don't fault them for trying. But when when you have those penalties and then the pass rush. Still isn't getting home. Like it did not against the titans here. That's when you really have the trouble in only two quarterback hits. They were not around mariota really at all. He had some good plays. A new one of play action where he was able to spin out and avoid pressure in. He's one of the board mobile quarterbacks in the league. So he is able to do that. Can you know he didn't play particularly well only twelve twenty eight passing yards? So the giants were mostly able to keep that passing game in check when they needed to especially Corey Davis. I thought he had the potential to really have a big game against Jewish Jenkins and we had three receptions for thirty three yards. So he would think being able to to hold that passing game especially holding Davis a to something like that. The giants defense would have played a good ole better overall a, but they just weren't able to do anything against the run in and Tennessee didn't really need to pass. Especially once they got the lead at all. They had to do was really run out the clock from like their second drive in the first quarter. Yeah. And there was one thing I found very curious in this game. And that was the almost insistence on playing nickel packages at. I haven't charted the game. I haven't seen any charts of it. But it seemed like the giants were they started in a nickel package, and I didn't see too many. Plays where they had a base package on the field which just knowing the titans. They want to run the ball that is the basis of their offense. They run. An offense built on the outside zone. Run. And especially in the rain. They didn't want to throw the ball. But almost every placing the giants either had an extra corner or an extra safety on the field. And those guys aren't going to bring down Derrick Henry, especially when none of their names. Landon Collins part of that is even as Tennessee is one of the teams that uses eleven personnel which is three ride receivers the lease in the league. I mean, they still use it on fifty six percent of their snaps which still more than half this naps. So they do have three wide receivers on the field quite often. They do use twelve personnel. Which is too tight ends on thirty one percent, which is one of the highest in the league. And they do like to run a lot from that. Also, part of what the giants are doing when they when they're running out nickel that often is they don't have the linebackers to be in base of. Very often you have Alec Ogle trees going to be on the field for a hundred percent of this naps. And he was a BJ. Goodson was still on the field. Sixty six percent of the snaps. Tavis was on twenty three percent of this naps. But is Davis that much better than you know, having a grant Haley or Sean Chan were on the field. I'm not totally sure there's that big of a difference there. I would think having somebody like Mario Edwards upfront and then use cream Artan as the edge or Lorenzo Carter rather than having tavis that would be just looking at the..

"So that that's where feral is. And he's been able to definitely take advantage of the opportunities. He's gotten, but we can move on now to another guy in the ACC that is. Going to be a Brian. Burns of Florida state. Yeah, he's another long guy. Six five he isn't as thick as feral as though I've only seen him listed to thirty. We'll see what he act has come the combine you can't put a whole lot of weight and school measurements. They occasionally stretched the truth. I suppose we could say, but he does move like a guy who has that long lean built kinda Leonard Floyd or Lorenzo Carter. He's really fluid mover. And he already uses a variety moves to be blockers, which is good to see. But he also doesn't have the strength you'd expect from a bigger guy which could hurt him as an edge. Because those guys do have to be able to set Nej in the run game. The pass rush is definitely more important teams generally don't draft run defenders highly. But it's still something they need to be able to do. Yeah. Abso. -olutely? And if you have the pass rush end, you can be a plus run-defender that that is the case that I think that is right now for burns. He's for what he's done this season. He has nine sacks in fourteen and a half run stuff's. So he hasn't been able to play the run pretty well. And that's also with twelve and a half tackles for loss. So he has been able to make plays in the backfield. A which is something you definitely want to see production is definitely a key. And something that translates at edge possibly college production. They're about as much or more than I think, maybe any other position you wanna see that type of production in college off the edge. Yeah. And with burns, if maybe the kind of guy where if you can't if you can't just stack and shed the blocker just run pass and make the tackle in the backfield that probably easier anyway, you talked about how. How he has some moves and and can use his hands a little bit. And that's that's another thing. If you're watching these guys when you have any type of college player who has advanced hand movement. That's something you write down and check because a lot of these guys who are athletes and can potentially be good at the next level. Sometimes that hand placement. And hand us is the last thing that really develops. So if you have a guy in college who can do that that someone who already has a step on some of these other guys? Yeah. And for some of these guys who are they have always been just a freak athlete and the most athletic die in the field. They don't develop hands because they don't have to they can just run right past a block or whether you can their kick slide or just hit them and out athlete than like today. Cloudy used to do it, South Carolina. His hands weren't great coming out. But he was just a. Just such an explosive athlete. It didn't matter. Now, he's had to develop them not having handy's. It's not something that should disqualify anyone either. You'll get markets Davenport last year super athletic had crazy production Welby it in in a smaller school, not someone who was completely refined in pass rush. Moves a when he was on the field that before he got hurt. He was able to definitely make an impact uh. So that's something that doesn't disqualify people. But if they do have that hand usage that can put them I step above. So someone who I think maybe might need to work on that a little bit is a montage sweat of Mississippi State. Yeah, he's another one of those longer, leaner, guys. He's listed at six four to forty looking on. I suppose that's about right? Interestingly he's really explosive out of a three point stance eats covers a lot of. Ground off the snap with his hand in the dirt less so out of a two point stance. At least from what I've seen. I don't know if that's just a repetition. He hasn't done it enough or hasn't gotten great coaching on that. I don't know..

"Yeah. If he can have. Have that if you can hold that size? And it doesn't even have to be to sixty to forty five or two fifty would probably be plenty for him. He would be very strong consideration as an edge to especially for the giants who could use him. Basically. It's a rich man's version of Lorenzo Carter where spent most of his time going downhill and after the quarterback, but he does have the wheels to drop into coverage on occasion and help play some games along the offense of line and create confusion rule. The more tools. You have the better. Yeah. Absolutely. And I can just say it feels so weird to be really excited to be talking about a Josh Allen the going into the draft because that was not the case for me last year, though. No and two slash three. After that. I think it really starts to get murky and individual. Yes. So okay. Let's let's move onto the next guy in the next guy. We have on our list is clear. Ferrell from Clemson part of that crazy Clemson a- defensive line right now. Oh, yeah. Barrels the guy who he looks like you're just your classic edge toll long, he at the size to be defensive end. But he's got the athleticism and flexibility to play in a two point stance. And kind of do a little bit of everything got good hands. He can use that length. Well, you know, he he keeps himself clean and you don't see offense of tackles really lock into him. All that often, which is athleticism is a huge part playing edge. That's why you see the best guys are except for Danial hunter, the best guys are always drafted highly. Because that's there's an epileptic premium on the physician, but hand usage is also one of those things that maybe take some some guys little longer to learn. But also really important just as Michael Strahan. Justin, talk, Farrell's, gut. A pretty wide variety of moves already. And he's also a pretty good run defender already which again that Clemson defensive line is just ridiculous. They've got to defensive tackles who could both wind up going. If not in the first round before the second round has halfway done. They'll have three guys drafted the one run flag autumn is he had a C L tear back in high school. But he's started three seasons in college sense, then so that's not a very bright red flag outside right to stand out on a defensive line. Like that is pretty impressive. I think if we look at someone like BJ hill who was kind of overshadowed by some of the other guys on that NC state defensive line last year as so BJ hill kind of fell of but still incredible football player. So for feral to stand out on a defensive line that is so good this year as. Eighteen and a half tackles for loss. Eight and a half sacks fifteen and a half run. Stuff's two pass breakups in to force fumbles. So those are excellent numbers to and yet. He he's probably you're more prototypical defensive end. But he's a guy who has just been able to get it done been one of the most productive defensive lineman in college football this year. Yeah. And now granted having defensive tackles Christian Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence helps. Makes it really tough for offenses too key on him and slide protection, or you know, dedicated double team to him. But he is still really good. Yeah. Absolutely. And I mean, that's you still have to be very good to take advantage of that. I think if you see you like somewhere like the Rams they have Aaron Donald and consume completely destroying the interior. But still don't have the guys, and you would think that type of that type of mentality that the edges would open up. They don't totally have the players to take advantage of that. Although I like Samson boom who's been pretty good this year. And they just traded for Dante hour, so you do still have to be really good to to take advantage of that..

"Far as Georgia, I go back and look in the first thing I take a look at his listen, you got you. Got to take a step back, right? Like you lose roquan Smith, you lose Lorenzo Carter, you lose Nick job and Sony, Michelle. And then I go back and I look at the schedule and let's go ahead real quick. We can heritage go ahead and put up Georgia's football schedule for twenty eighteen because it's it's amazing. I've talked about how Alabama I talked to somebody in the athletic department at Alabama and said, you guys got it made this year, and then I look at how good Georgia's schedule is. I mean you got Austin p. who I just heard from coats, Healy, I love you heels, but I think Austin p. is going to struggle with the Georgia BULLDOGS. I'll tell you this. I think Georgia actually loses week two at South Carolina. I'm still on the williams-brice bandwagon for those fans making a difference. But outside of that, Utah. Tell me where loss is going to be. I, it's going to be tough. I mean, the November tenth game against Auburn is the one that's probably the closest thing. And I just I'm all in on Auburn right now. So again, this Georgia squad is going to be fantastic and I love the see this new redshirt rule that you have four games to play before redshirt him because I think for a young Georgia team that has a lot of talent that is going to be huge, eight, five, five, two, four, two. Paul is the phone number. Let's go to Alabama, Alabama, Tonya, thanks for joining Peter burns in for Paul finebaum what's up and just want to say roll tide. I fell and I just find it how laris how these Louisville coaches fans players are trash-talking Bama. I just want to let them know this gonna be another Vanderbilt game you. I remember van. They, they had won a couple of games early vandy did. And then I wouldn't say they were bumping their guns, but they said, hey, we got a chance at this and I think it was a fifty nine. Nothing like at halftime or something like that. I will tell you this on you. I don't mind the trash talk from Louisville, right? Like I, the offensive line said, hey, if we play well, we can dominate. Yeah, he put if in there don't get upset about that. When I when they lose, I will say that, but I'm gonna give Louisville somewhat credit here. And you know, that's tough for me to do tiny because I can't stand Bobby Katrina for what he's done. But I will say this in order to beat Alabama, you have to make sure you get off the bus thinking you have a chance and if you are, you're going in there with the mentality of, well, I mean, they're Alabama, and we have no chance you're going to get the doors blown off. You're probably gonna get the doors blown off you to begin with because Alabama so darn good. But I don't mind the mentality and you know who else doesn't mind the trash talking, Alabama, especially Scott Cochran the shrink conditioning coach because I guarantee you what was said today in the weight room on the offensive line. We're doing squats when they were bench pressing or doing their drills. Scott cocker was sitting there going Louisville doesn't. Thank you. Guys are going to be very good Louisville days you're going to doing. And if that's one or two extra reps that might be the difference in winning a national championship. That's how good this team is. So we'll see how that goes going forward. I don't mind the trash-talk because guess what? If you're not good, people aren't talking trash about you right. Thanks for the phone call eight, five, five, two, four, two,.

"But you know, when you look at that defensive front, you gotta have guys that can stop the run that can allow the linebackers to run in hidden flow over the top. They don't. They don't have those guys outside of snacks. Harrison Thomas, we saw some flashes, but he wasn't very consistent last year. So you're looking at that. You look at Vernon, he's a proven commodity as a pass, even though he's not a fifteen twenty sat guy, he's always around ten to twelve sacks. The only problem is, who's the guy that's going to be rushing a pass opposite him or have that guy. So a lot of offense is going to game plan and try to scheme v. Vernon out of being able to be a factor in terms of generating Pash Ross. So when I see teams that are contending for championships on the defensive side of the ball, they usually have three or four guys that can consistently win one on ones and get after the quarterback and the giants just don't have that. I like carnival one, but he seemed better days. I mean, he's a guy that's a piece, but he's not the answer. So the giants are going to need one of those young guys, whether it's Romeo Kwara Lorenzo Carter Kareem on somebody to step up and do something that we haven't seen. I know what I'm getting from alleviate Vernon. I don't know what I'm getting from. The other group of pass rushes and thereby I don't know what kind of defense you're going to have yet. And candy. He brings up some great points as far as the giants and win. The giants have been good in our conversations, man, there's been a thing with this franchise. I love this franchise. They do things to right way the very, very classy. But when they have one at a high level, it has never been with the offense scoring upwards of twenty four points. All right. Not only. Just the weather just to style, the giants fans than intensity for which they play with the physical approach. So now we're saying, okay, they're going to be an offense of dominated team in this NFC where we got a bunch of quarterbacks like that can score point. So I think that's a problem. Now, from a personnel standpoint, let's just take a look on the defensive side. You talked about up front and the linebacker core linebacker core is questionable to can they cover, you know, candidate come down, he'll and dump. Take people out of the running game, but ally apple at the left corner spot is a huge question. Mark Jenkins coming off an awful season also coming off a bad off season where his brother allegedly murdered another guy in his house. So I don't know where he sleeping, but I can guarantee you trying to have your mind at rest as you approach this season, it'd be a very, very important season for him. Now, let's go on often side of the ball out, stay with the same theme of their skill. Guys, Cody Lattimore you guys know who he is. The Denver Broncos he's scheduled to start opposite Odal Beckham now do I think he can have sixty seventy catches a POWs in yard season. That's what you have to have opposite of a star like Odell. So he's a huge question Mark and Eric flowers, that right tackle is not going no with, like I tell. Hottest try. We have scouting report for people like air flowers. I used to let the God, no man are scouting. Department knows you. You can't hide. We know you can't play bay, Cain help you not. And that's the story with Eric flowers in his inability to be quality, offensive lineman. I know he's not playing left tackle. Nate soldier will be playing the left tackle, but even at right tackle, we have so many premier Russia's that play left hand..

"At that level adding to the run game was saquon barkley the number two overall pick a lot of people are going to debate the value of the running back that we did the same thing with zeke elliott for the other year especially when you have a chance at one of the quarterbacks that you could have love but if you're looking at the way dave gettleman has built teams traditionally this isn't shocking and i think to marry that by getting will hernandez in the second round who a lot of people thought might have been the second guard and the draft at the very least most second most talented guard in the draft to try insure up that offensive line that you already went out attitude nate solar i can at least see the makings of a plan you also add that lorenzo carter and bj hill on the other side defensively where you needed to shore some things up especially the renzo carter you're getting ready to do that scheme change all these things seem to marry up with the identity that you wanna create and so i have to look at that thing pretty favorably of it the green bay packers you go out and add to quality defensive backs in your first couple of picks and gyro zander and josh jackson both were dynamic especially josh jackson super productive coming into his first year as a true starter outside at corner had been playing in the nickel corner for them last year guy who always found his way to the football jay more not for nothing wide receiver.

"Has the pick they don't need offense the lyman in my opinion the outlets you're gonna reach for like a lorenzo carter or she green i saw that i thought about it but they're defensive line is right and i don't see them that way like lorenzo carter is a better player but he's not like top tier pass rusher he's going to be a great strong right good defense ending hearst's could end up being a little spy hers could be special yes next up is the pittsburgh steelers twenty steel but this is i mean this road itself i mean who got hurt what linebackers on the board who got hurt for that all i can't believe that your linebacker still still there sean evans right and it just i was like damn okay and i it's not like intended this to happen but i just was like oh this makes too much sense or shot evans is on the board and this was their biggest issue going back if the panthers took rashad evans thomas davis and keithly with that fit well yeah it would but they ever going to let the kid they drafted in the first round out of team shaquille shaquille jack shack ason not mason schick thompson shocked yes shack masons with the patriots steelers and rashad evans would be just a match made a match made in heaven i mean this is what they need they need that athletic middle linebacker evans's come from three four defense he'll be used to a lot of the stuff they do here and yeah i mean they were they're they're middle linebacker play was the re of huge reason they lost the jaguars and that afc championship or divisional playoff game and it was issue from once ryan shazier got hurt then on they need a difference maker on that part of their defense jaguars at twenty nine jaguars at twenty nine are in the like i told you the up your joe up your but joe boo pick here because what are they need tell me i mean back you know i thought maybe they could go receiver but i looked at their receiving core a damn i mean they got a lot of good and tom coughlin's a receiver coach and he's probably like i'm not gonna.

"What can we get in the second round and not at the other position what so let's say we like to players it comes down to equip nelson and bradley chop what's going to be available guard from a value standpoint compared to defense event we already talked about defensive end runs dry sam hover going to be your best choice and he's more of a hybrid any way in second round whereas you can probably get a a starting guard like a will hernandez early in the second round so yeah i i think to a certain degree and i think the fact that it's a guard there are a lot of people in the league that just absolutely will not spend a top 10 pick and some people in the league who won't spend a first round pick on an offense of guard because of the purely on positional value mel at jr connolly ass passing the titans of running backs obviously exploding all over the league who were some of the linebackers in this classic an actually cover who are going to be available what you'll get that in the past rush cover i think you look at that combination guy who can do both and i think lorenzo carter at georgia the way he was utilized with the georgia bulldog defense within that scheme if he can run in that 455 range or better i he's going to be very attractive in terms of how nfl teams will view him a guided i think is going to be intriguing to you go back and look at times durant's armstrong kansas ego beginning after quarterback eu through that coverage guilt jeff holland's and other ones patrolled main rungetter vita the combine right now now it's great i be crazy crazy back to the cover elijah rome baker from ohio state will be a guy i think will fall into that category of a guy that you can utilize in that here if you're new england to cover linebacker are that carter from georgia good.

"And both scarborough i don't know how much more they have to prove as running backs at alabama i would expect them unless they you know are extremely happy in tuscaloosa and want to keep playing for an excellent football team i would expect them to at least figure out if they should be going to the nfl especially at that position and now that to attack a below is now cartel jones what what will jaylen hurts do in a sort of very mobile quarterback transfer of konomi we'll see i i don't know what obama's quarterback depth looks like behind those two buds if two a is now in a position to grow from winning a national championship and become an even more accurate confident passer i don't know where that leaves the the quarterback rome entask lusa i really don't so that's what alabama looks like and georgia loses a ton of talented seen as i think they lose something like thirty seniors from this last as was always going to be the year when you looked at the depth chart but yet tear godwin's a junior we'll see what happens with him jake from is obviously gonna be around for awhile sony michelle and nick job are going to be gone but they recruited running back really well um big john atkins the senior in the middle of that defense lorenzo carter who obviously had a huge play in the uh in the rose bowl and played very well against alabama last night stephane bellamy we expect rokhlin smith as a junior to at least figure out what his value is perhaps the next level secondary is fold with filled with upperclassmen so these two teams have recruited so well and have rotated enough guys to build reps throughout the season blowing teams out that i'm positive they're going to be very very good next year but both will look exceeding yeah well daniel all yet note again 26 23 or final congratulations to bama fans congratulations obama and hey congratulations to georgia fans as well that was a good game georgia very ma.

"They wanted to get more heat on a quarterback they wanted to go into the europe be more of disruptive and they really haven't been there are tied for fifty fifth in the nation and sachs which is twenty six and they got talent but the lorenzo carter and davin bellamy have great length the have tremendous athleticism can they had that career game can they find a way to generate pressure on may films mobile plus as you said that veteran offense and the running game all these things take the pressure away from your quarterback and georgia all year has not had a consistent at rush we will get to see in this game a couple of phenomenal linebackers of course for georgia roku on smith for oklahoma obo oben as couple of guys what be seen in the nfl for years to come i have a hunch that's the rose bowl the other national semifinal follows that on new year's day of course and that is alabama and clemson as we get phenomenal football in this new year's day alabama clemson round three this time it's a semifinal not a national championship game kelly bryant facing alabama's fence which should be virtually a 100percent healthy i know they're not gonna be if on hamilton probably not there but still going to be a very healthy group compared what we've seen late in the season for alabama yet it gets the whole key as as alabama's defense which has has you said injuries a lot of attrition there but mikka fits patrick of he's healthy rashawn evans all centre on paints at assault you're on the line at every line of defence than dari it would set up that they would have a healthy superstar and that's what they haven't been able to have healthy superstar players at their best and it obviously this rest as allowed them to get healthy and at alabama defense while they lost all those saxon all those great players and we knew it'd be tough the reload it would be more rebuild and we've seen that this year admit easy dari for this defense and the injuries of tampa compounded the problem but now this rest has really been beneficial what have you seen from jalen hurts now we saw beasley he led his team to a national championship matchup in nearly a victory against clemson as a freshman now that he's a sophomore i don't think they've been able to.
