"Institute's center for wealth, and poverty is a thing. Anyway city journal, which you're all familiar with. He wrote an article called crimes is survival. He says it's not a new term, but it certainly has relevance today. Now, what is a crime of a poor man who steals bread from the grocery store to feed his children, very good. The theory holds at the homeless the poor and people of color can it property crimes and low level infractions in order to secure their basic survival. Any enforcement of these laws is thus a violation of their basic human rights, and should be relaxed. The thought of that when corporal Carson interviewing that police officer who use the term they're taking a light approach now too late. Yes. Imprisoning people. Right. It's the state. This is where it comes from essentially it is or it's because he's a drug addict. And he can't help himself. Same thing. Dry drag. No, no, no, drug addiction is the main reason that people are stealing stuff these days. That's why there's such a huge increase in burglaries it ties exactly to a Corbin was discussing once they reduced drug crimes two misdemeanors. Then the drug crimes basically had no consequence. They've legal. They've legalized it. And they're not forced into drug rehab, which is what prosecutors used to do. They had leveraged drug rehab or you're getting charged with a felony. And the guy would say fine go to drug rehab. So there's no consequence now, and they don't they don't keep people in jail for misdemeanors very long anyway, because the jails are overcrowded because the prisoners were moved from state prisons into the jails, and blah, blah, blah, blah. So there's that that's why you're going to have a lot more drug crime. And you're going to have a lot more theft, by the way, this idea that anybody has to steal money to survive is nonsense with the welfare programs. We have the food stamp program. He's points at home one billion dollar a year is dumped on anti-poverty programs by the federal there are food banks all over the place there is there is nobody who has to go hungry. All these vagrants have have cell phone. Owns it seems smartphones at you could ask a police officer. Where's the nearest food Bank of probably give you a ride there. So it is nonsense. These are criminals. These are guys who steal stuff because it's easy to do. And it finances their drug habit. That's what it is. And that there should be zero tolerance for this enough with the phony stop sob stories. We are spending a trillion dollars helping people it still doesn't work because people don't want to be helped sepals, and you mentioned prop forty seven in hall by God. Is that a pisses me off about that Trump forty seven at the very least if it was legislation. We could we could go after the guy who wrote the bell. We could go after the ones who voted for the Bill, but it was stupid stupid stupid public that doesn't pay attention. They don't read. They don't listen. They don't get information. Oh that sounds like a good idea. That makes me feel good to vote for it. Oh, God L bus. So he also makes the case that this leads to two sets of laws. We've talked about this concerning. Illegal immigration in California, and Victor Davis Hanson who coined the phrase the to California's meaning you because you're not poor and destitute or a drug addict. Or you're not illegal immigrant cannot commit certain crimes, and you would be punished more severely than people who commit them because their crimes of survival. We set up like this idea of America's wants to be over. We're all equal under the Justice system, apparently not anymore. No. And it's broken down. Crimes. Survival is a phony concept. It's a hoax concept. It's another fancy hip social Justice warrior term to excuse bad behavior. Bad behavior. He's called them politically favored, identity groups sad. Pretty good. Exactly. Right. It's part of identity politics. These are victims, they actually the perpetrators they're criminals. There are people who do damage to others and to themselves and they're not some special. Holy a noble group that we should be worshipping. He writes in short time or legal proceedings that are no longer beginning with the question. What is the crime? But who is the criminal, right? That's how you're going to decide how this comes out. And he mentioned what you said activists has successfully made the case that we must sacrifice a quality under the law to address wider, social inequality. Why the activists are so successful in these fronts because they're in the game. And everybody else is sitting at home watching net flicks. Or they're staring at their screens reading idiots social media. They're in the game. And if you're in the game, you're gonna win the normal people don't show up anymore. They're anesthetized by entertainment. They're anesthetized by social media. That's lakes. Yeah. Exactly. Binge-watch a okay you binge binge-watch dig your grave. I would this is why all the crazy activists has taken over there. Not sitting home. If they're on social media, they're connecting with other crazy social activists to create a bigger movement. Molly crane Newman from the new York Daily News is going to be on next with an update on the El Chapo trial, the drug kingpin on trial in Brooklyn, New York. And apparently good stuff today about the manhunt almost five years ago to try to find and finally they did find El Chapo, they captured John and Ken show KFI. I feel like you were talking about me. No, I do binge net flicks. And I'm on social media a lot and I'm proud you. See what did we say yesterday? I'm not crazy. It's we've got to be about you know, it is. It's always about didn't even address, you know. Talking to me about you inserted yourself. Because he looked at me. Your time to hide. I'll tell you. "Once again today day, three to the LA unified school district. Teachers strike I was just looking up because I saw him in some appearances and photos. How old Austin is? Because I thought he looked like eighty. The thing is wearing on. Here's of course, the LA unified school district superintendent, he's fifty eight. He's a nice guy. I've met him twice. You had listened them or something? I the purpose of that. There was one time. He was thinking of running for mayor, and he may have even run briefly. And there was a friend of mine who is really into his candidacy. So he set us up for lunch. And then the second time it was a matchmaker open that you could be a mover and a shaker for Mr. Butin her age. You know, what would be a terrific mayor? It would. Okay, nothing. He's he's got a fast any run DWP. Well, he's the publisher of the Los Angeles Times. Something to do with. I think he was a deputy mayor with VERA Gaza. No. He told me some interesting stories there. Okay. And if he was a financial he made a ton of money in finance now had some terrible terrible accident and he ended up taking off year. And I think he started climbing mountains, and then he came back to LA started getting involved in in public policy. But he's is a brilliant guy. He's very soft spoken. He's talks in a soft voice. But it, but he's a smart guy. And that's why having met him a couple of times. I I knew that if he said, there's no money left. There's no money left. He's just not a BS sky. And if you notice he saying, look, Sacramento supplies ninety percent of our money. Let's all get on a bus. I'll go with you. Go ask them for more money. Like, I don't think he particularly cares. Exactly. How much the teachers are getting he's trying to tell them. It isn't there? Somebody's got to do that. Because we've had twenty years of extreme irresponsibility in stupidity on this stuff ever since Gray Davis gave away the store to the unions twenty years ago. Right. So here's what I was thinking. He was appointed by Tony Villar in twenty tend to be the first deputy mayor of L A. I guess we didn't have them before that and the oversight included DWP. And you're right. He tried to run for mayor in two thousand thirteen but he dropped out of the race a year before the voting polls showed them the only two percent. Yeah. But see, that's how smart he is. He could see he was in two thousand thirteen he and the former US secretary of commerce commerce. Mickey cantor co-chaired, some commission to study and report on financial matters in L A and one of their recommendations to reform the LA DWP about that. And that didn't happen. He spent enough time to see that stinking mess. It's the worst connected. I couldn't remember the biggest the biggest problem we've got is is is just about everybody in public office is corrupt. And the reason the DWP is allowed to carry on the way it does is they own all the city council members, and they owned Garcetti the union spends so much money on campaign contributions that everybody in city council bought off Garcetti's bought off. And so they all bend over for whatever the union boss says what's that guy's name? I forgot his name Brian. No, it's Alex Caputo Pearl. Ryan Dorsey, Brian. It's the same thing with the schools. This. The everybody knows the teachers unions on a local level and a state level have incredible influence on legislators because they pay the bills, and if you disobey them they will finance a candidate against you in the primary, and they'll spread word that you're a child molester or you drink baby's blood. And then you're done and said nobody wants to mess with them at twenty years ago. Gray Davis gave away the store to teachers unions around the state because it's the state legislature and the governor at the time that voted to to give them big pension benefits and healthcare benefits healthcare benefits are negotiated locally the state determines what the pension benefits would be. And I was the guy we had on from. What do you call the city journal the other day, the fellow? Yes, a Milonga Stephen molest even Molyneux's yesterday yesterday. I heard him on another show today. See the other radio shows in town. Listen our show. But he, you know, he he he was he was talking at length, and he said that a few years back. The state everybody realized like, for example, L A USDA was going broke and the the bond rating agencies. Gave a warning that LA is LA district's going insolvent. We're not going to allow any money to be loaned to L A USD. We'll make their bond rating so low so terrible that you will be the L A St. won't be able to borrow money. So the state got wind of this and said, okay, we can't have that. Because if you can't borrow money, then you can't build new schools, you can't refurbish schools, you basically can't do any construction. So that their bond rating was in jeopardy and less day did something about being out of whack with pensions. So the state ordered the local school districts to start paying big big chunks for the pensions. Suddenly they had to put money into pension system. They weren't doing that for a lot of years. So now a big percentage of the annual budget is going to pay for pensions. And like Stephen Milonga said yesterday by the end of the decade ten years from now it's going to be fifty percent of all the money earmarked for LA. USD? Fifty percent is gonna go for health and pension benefits. Because the state has ordered them. Well, start contributing to the system and the state is the one who gave out these generous benefits without any financial backing for it. They're going to have to also get the employee's to kick in more shouldn't all just beyond the backs district to kick it more, right? But but every contract and every legislative decision. Let's come over the last twenty years has said to the teachers you don't have to pay for anything. You don't have to pay for your healthcare. You don't have to pay for your pensions baba. So they got this tremendous amount for free. And what I heard him say today. He goes, it's simple. There's so much money now at of every budget that goes for healthcare and pensions, it's simply crowds out everything else. It's not just it's not serious. It's all the cities and towns have got facing the same problem. It's crowding out all sorts of basic services because they have to put so much into the pension Bank. So the first thing that goes is there's no, nurses. Yeah. There's no college counselors. Yeah. The there's no anything because all it all goes to. Healthcare and pensions, and the teachers don't care that they're taking up that lion's share. They just banged their Cup and go more more more. Well, there isn't any more even Gavin Newsom said, all right? We'll give you a little bit. But that's it. When we come back. We'll have more on this. We have some audio to play for you of apparently some replacement workers in LA unified being harassed and then supposedly they are working on a deal. Even though they're not really talking apparently behind the scenes, it's possible. They'll come up with a deal to end the strike and one of the elements where did you hear what it is something called a community school? I hated we'll talk coming up. We don't like the word community. John and Ken show KFI. Debra Mark has news southern California is in for even more of soaking the national weather service. "Week is going to start this evening. So maybe get into work a little early today. Go home a little bit early may be miss it. That'd be my advice. So let me just go over some of the evacuation orders. First of all you heard evacuation orders in Burbank yesterday. Those have been lifted with one exception the mandatory evacuation for a country club drive along via Montana's been downgraded to voluntary. They say officials say about five hundred households near Somare might be ordered to evacuate. The homes are close to the area that burden in late twenty seventeen some homeowners especially in the dangerous areas have been warned go ahead and leave even if it's not mandatory affected. Areas could include Cato canyon little Tonga canyon and Lopez canyon, then we have voluntary evacuation orders. Still in place for several neighborhoods near the burn zone around lake Elsinore part of to Mexico canyon road was also closed last night because of flooding and debris flow in just a moment. We'll talk with ABC's. Karen Travers, and I will try and get this frog out of my throat. Don't you love it? When you wake up and you're like I felt fine yesterday. Feel fine this morning. I just sound. I sound like the weather, right? Just kinda creepy. Everybody's got this weird. Allergy thing going on and I'm the recipient as well. So we'll talk with ABC's. Karen Travers Democrats passed up a lunch at the White House with the president. And so I'm wondering if that's an indication of where this talks stand get we're at a stalemate, I get nobody's going anywhere. And they said we're going to, you know, dig our heels in but come on guys just meet for lunch. Make it look good to the rest of us. Make us think that you're talking. That's all I'm asking for.
