"Chris Paul being in the Cove. 19 protocol because apparently the sons and him can't have nice things. All of that. And we did have some coaching moves as well Today and for more on that. That's where we had to the Goodyear hotline to talk to our ESPN pelicans reporter Andrew Lopez, who joins us now and Andrew, We appreciate the time Stan Van Gundy out after one year, I saw David Griffin had his press conference talking about this and cited philosophical differences going forward. What more have you heard about these factors that led to this firing for Stan after just one season? Yeah, I will say that it really does sound like it was. We throw this mutual parting of ways around a lot rate of, uh, where teams trying to make it sound like You know they're not firing a coach and we use this special language. This one really does sound like that from both sides. Griff did not get too much into the philosophical differences. Uh and what changed and really just an 88 month span from when they first made this higher, but You can kind of see during the the the season. The players just weren't responding. I think to to stand the way maybe the team would have liked stand dealt with a lot of personal issues during the season of Just the pressures of dealing with Colbert and trying to maneuver and coach around that not having practices. How many times you could practice to condemn schedule and I just think for both parties This was this was probably the best way to go. You mentioned Andrew. The fact the players weren't really getting along with Stan. I know there was some issues in May that had come to light where they were saying that that stand and the players weren't necessarily vibing. So what exactly are they looking for? When it comes to a coach and being able to vibe with some of the young players on the squad? Well, I think you're going to look for somebody who's not a 61 year old coach. I think I think that makes to start. Uh, when you when you're looking to who you're going to get, I think that relationship building and I think Griff even kind of alluded to it just now, a little bit. That, you know, maybe he'll take more into account. How how Some of the players are feeling not necessarily going and like, ask, you know who do you want? What do you this but giving them a little bit more input this time around. I think that is What we've seen kind of in the NBA. Just a recent trend really is sometimes that relationship building and being able to relate to these players a little bit more important, then the extra that knows obviously the axis and those are still obviously a big part of what they need to do. But being able to relate to these guys is just a little bit more important there. Maybe it's been in the past. An angle Junior here on ESPN Radio mic goal of junior and Christine Williamson talking to Andrew Lopez, our ESPN Pelicans reporter and we say players. We also know that this is a star driven league Zion Williamson. How much of this was about his relationship with standing and how much impact do you think he personally like? A lot of other stars in this league might have on the process of finding the next coach. Well, it it wasn't a situation where Z wanted him out or anything like that. I think he was kind of just along for the ride. There were some other Reports of it. You know him having Rocky relationships with other players, and I think that played a factor into this, but it's not something they're doing because of the and now you know, we actually Griffin about that specifically just a few minutes ago, and he said, Look, it's not going to have to do with the we're not. We don't feel like we're on a ticking clock with him. I know you're not going to believe me, which, you know, I think most people won't believe Griffin that scenario, but You know, they understand. Look, Brandon is about to go his fourth coaching four years zero. I'm going to be on his third coaching third in three years right now, so for them to They have to get this right if they don't get this, right, you know, there might be a lot more people in the unemployment line. Just Stan Van Gundy. That makes complete sense. Do we feel like because, like you mentioned, these players have now rotated coaches multiple coaches in the last few years. Do you feel like that's going to impact in a negative way their future? I think to to prevent that from happening. I think what the pelicans are going to try to do is keep some of the support staff and somebody's assistant coaches, uh, with them. Teresa Weatherspoon For one, Fred Vinson, who has been known for his being able to help with the shooting of Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, even Guy on this year, worked with a D in the past Tyreke Evans. Uh, those are two names. I would expect to stay around no matter what, In fact, I think, uh, Griff just told us three to Weatherspoon is expected to coach the Summer league team this year for the pelicans. So yeah, as long as you kind of keep some of that structure around them some of the PD guys from this year Then bringing in a new head coach will have new access in those new schemes won't matter as much. But you definitely don't want to continue on this path or the is, uh, you know, starting with a new head coach every year, So one thing that I did see a as you mentioned it. Teresa Weatherspoon being in the mix definitely being on the team still on the sideline for the team Still, but what is the likelihood that she get that head coaching position? So we just again. We just talked to grip and he kind of shot it down a little bit, saying saying it was early too early to call her a candidate, he said. I think a lot of the noise around teaspoon. Being named, You know, in a lot of places and and was because they had asked her to be the Summer League head coach in front of a room full of people, and he thinks it got out that way. Now I think they do have some other targets. They are going to look at But teaspoon is very essential to what they are going to do, and I don't expect her to be going anywhere anytime soon. Andrew Lopez doing a great job covering the pelicans for us as a reporter, Andrew, We appreciate the time and the inside all this going to be fascinating to watch this all developed for an organization that houses one of the brightest young stars in the NBA. We appreciate the time, man, we'll talk to you soon, Okay? Sounds good. I'm going to catch up on like four more NBA breaking news things that probably happened while we were on the phone just now, exactly. I can only imagine it won't. His phone is smoldering somewhere right now as it tries to maintain any semblance of function, But Christine, it is interesting between teaspoon between Becky Hammond the name we always knowing this. This feels like an off season where we are hearing for a lot of these jobs, The Boston Celtics, the Indiana Pacers, the Orlando Magic Now this a lot of jobs where it feels like we could finally had that breakthrough. First woman as a head coach in the NBA just do it like it needs to happen If there's any season any year, any anything that this needs to happen after it is 2021 2020 2021 basketball season. It needs to happen. It is time you might as well just do it. Why not just buy all three of them? Just like all there's plenty of head coaching vacancies? Just all of them. Come on, Come on, come on. This is the same conversation we had yesterday when Jalen Brown pointed out that for the remaining seven NBA coaches right now are black head coaches leading this team. We just mentioned the glut of deserving women candidates right now for the head coaching jobs here, and that's why it feels like we've finally gotten to the point where you can't ignore the greatness. That's here waiting potentially for one of these instances, but we know someone has to be the first. Unfortunately, there are no more first when it comes to major injury this week on Sunday night baseball Does. Mitt leads the ST Louis Cardinals into Atlanta to face Ronald Acuna Jr and the Braves coverage begins at six Eastern on ESPN Radio and on ESPN presented by Credit Karma He's in the NBA playoffs next..
Fresh update on "lonzo ball" discussed on The Herd with Colin Cowherd
"Taylor with the news you heard on the news is the third line. Aj mccarron we looked up this morning. We compare them to drew brees. Mack jones drew brees to Drew brees. i'm over that comp. I'm over most of these camps but yes i've been saying. Please stop comparing is to drew. Brees and tom brady. And aaron rodgers and russell wilson like those are one of one. God made them broke the mold like that lacks on those particular for twenty years. I kept hearing. This guy's the next tiger woods. The only thing close was phil mickelson. Who played alongside him and couldn't beat him fill is like almost that good michelson either. Yeah i heard twenty guys. We're going to be tiger. It's there that media is all by itself. Yes so there's so much going on in the nba right now. It's absolute mayhem. I don't know what we did. Nba gods what do we do. We don't deserve this all right but there's a lot going but let's start with stan van. Gundy out as pelicans head coach after just one season with the team he led them to a record of thirty one and forty one. not good. Enough failed reached the postseason. Or the play in tournaments. He reportedly had a rocky relationship with several of the players which contributed to the decision to let him go. That that's kind of been stands thing. He struggle with the white howard. He struggles with players and this is not a league. You can struggle your best player And certainly not anymore. So now new orleans will be looking for their third head coach in three years. They finished thirteenth in the west last year. Eleventh this year Looking at this situation though my first thought was obviously i on because as i just mentioned they'll be now looking for their third head coach but also you know john. Marantz was in the playoffs. This year with the grizzlies. They were ninth in the west last year and he won rookie of the year. They beat the spurs and the warriors and the plans ornament obviously lost in the first round but they made the playoffs and like they're going to be compared your your compared in that way. No question the finish. The pelicans finish thirteenth last year and eleventh. This year and zion is doing what he's supposed to do like zion delivering zion's been great and brandon ingram. It's the best he's ever been and lonzo ball had his best year. So you can't miss the playoffs by that gap. No so they need to make a major changes there and the gotta do it fast because most players as we know. Don't turn down that. I check but we've talked before. There's a lot of money outside of basketball. Now it's it could be an unprecedented time for someone like zion williamson. Who is again. The pelicans hire the wrong coach in two years from now. Zion doesn't need to sign that extension because he makes so much money in shoes. The hill just say i. I'll take sixty million less will make it up on the shoe side and now i'll go to a big market. They'll market the hell out of me. And i'll show also more shoes of.
What Knicks trade for Lonzo Ball could look like
"To the pelicans new orleans lonzo ball love him or leave him leave him. I think a lot of return for lonzo ball. And i i gotta tell you. I'm really impressed with all the talk. We've been having about lamelo ball lonzo. Ball's men baldwin him shooting the ball well from the three point line. He's not really playing. His position stands got him sort of three indeed settings threes. Chris i on your. I can pick and roll like okay. Zion's carmelo no lonzo ball is the karl malone and john stockton karl malone what the hell down world but it works. It works the upside down any can defend. Yeah leave him. Yeah that's what i think. He fits with the knicks. Because we talked about you talk about random about how well you know how hard air coats and commitment to the defense side of all you have to get a certain type of store star in new york. He's a guy that won't be afraid of coming in and do a little hard working in committing to both sides of the ball quickly which you know. Obviously well his dad prophesized already. He prophesied before but now we just gotta deal with him stats next.
Zion Williamson, Lonzo Ball, Pelicans Hold off Donovan Mitchell, Jazz for Win
"We are back on. Get up and jay. Williams made his way to take a look at the game of the night last night. A good one between the jazz. And the pelicans and this one was all about ziad. Look at him. Going right equity go back just constantly challenging rudy gobert. He gets his shot blocked more than any other player in the league. But it doesn't matter because it's going to finish at the rim. He had fifteen points in the third quarter. Zion did look at them continuing here and just taking a straw once again. He loves eternal right shoulder. That's his patented move. Twenty-six ten last night for zion who was really emerging clear in his second season. Well let's take you to where this game is decided thirty seconds ago jazz are down by one. And here's the big sequence. J. will often miss from donovan mitchell. Donovan mitchell mrs baruch. I don't know if i call that over to bat call rudy gobert. That just much taller. But since i did it take another look at it here. That's go bear. He does get called for over the bag. Zion would make too so the pelicans of a three point lead in. Here's the final shot. Not a great look that the utah jazz get off. Zion gets the rebound josh. Hart gets uncontested dunk. And that is all she wrote. The pelicans get the win. One twenty nine one twenty four and again as i on finishing with twenty six points. Ten boards five assists. Joining anthony davis as the only players in new orleans history with game with those numbers before turning twenty one years old. They will play again tomorrow night

Ingram leads Pelicans to 113-80 win over Thunder
"Brandon Ingram furnished twenty points and seven rebounds before being ejected in the third quarter of the pelicans pounding of the thunder one thirteen to eighty Bledsoe's arm caught eyes they're Roby across the faces Roby look for a layup on a fast break officials ruled a flagrant foul and ejected Ingram Eric Bledsoe added seventeen points and Lonzo ball at sixteen with nine assists and eight rebounds for New Orleans which lost all four of its games last season to the founder al Horford led the thunder with seventeen points and six rebounds Steven Adams chipped in fourteen points and ten boards in his first game with Oklahoma City I'm Dave Ferrie
Is Zion Living Up to the Hype for the Pelicans?
"Were in Dallas for the pelicans overtime loss to the Mavericks. Second night of a back to back for New Orleans obviously but we didn't see the Zion. We've sort of been spoiled by over the last month. So what did you get from Zion? On Wednesday night. I saw someone who had to go through a little bit of adversity. There's two different things working against him in that Dallas Game One. It was the first time he played on a back to back. You didn't see his legs under him. Early actually play but gets the block on Williamson Williamson. Took his time getting up court. You may be subbing out of the ball game here. He is drew and Lonzo Ball. We're GONNA come on up to him. Hey man you you're right you you tired. Are you going to play? You GotTa pick one. The other thing. Going against him was Dallas they started Maxi Kluber alongside of kristaps porzingis specifically for Zion Williamson two. That might have been forcing a psychotic burst that is just perfectly played deep that still by Dallas Cleveland's doing A. They went to the formula. That's been working. Which is the. We're GONNA get the tallest guy we have can defend him to do it. And then have another seven footer. Awesome plus footer at the Rim Ryan got blocked inside again. It's not possible in less. Cleber is being this physical and allowing time for kristaps ticket over there. Lieber six ten obviously porzingas seven three. Those have been the only really match ups that have given him problems when they played the box. Janas guarded him and then you have the Lopez twins behind him. Protecting the RIM defers Lakers game. Anthony Davis guarded him. And you had jovial and Dwight rim so that combination kind of went against his favor so walk me through a little bit of the process on the back to back portion of it because this is obviously part of the Adjustment For Zion. So where do you find the line? If you're the PELICANS in trying to get him experienced doing things like back to backs that he'll be asked to throughout his career and then also sort of adjusting him since he is still getting fresh on the court after an injury yeah so initially David Griffin the PELICANS executive vice president of basketball operations who should have a shorter title. It's a mouthful say every time I don't know I mean if you're going to have a title let's go big with it like if I'm going to have a business card the whole front of it's going to be my title and the backs. Just going to say fits. There's not not my first name. Just I'm pretty sure that's what his business card says. I haven't seen one but I'm pretty sure that's it has to read like that initially As I was coming back from the injury. Grif said he wasn't there. Were probably going to take it easy on back to backs. Now the good thing that kind of worked into their favor there was January. Twenty second was when he made his debut since then the Tuesday Wednesday back to back that they just had was the first time they had a back to back so they got to let him get games under his belt. He mentioned to his own Tuesday. You know I have to do the recovery if I want to perform the way that I'm capable of performing as you try to push for or is this your mutual agreement Little bit of both but I need a push for myself because I gotTa do the recovery of I want to be able to perform. We do every night with that. Being said coming off the knee injury there were reports that he was learning how to walk differently. How to run differently? I mean when they're watching him and they're monitoring and what are they looking for his indicators of his health very funny to me because I think George Sodano said that I think on ESPN broadcast and it just kind of blew up. He's learning how to walk and anybody who's been through physical therapy at any point that I for any sort of knee. Injuries foot injury. Whatever it is can tell you. They will relearn how to walk in physical therapy. The learning how to walk and run differently was more about little things in his gate that they wanted to fix. The biggest thing that they really wanted to correct at that time was how he landed when you go back and watch how he landed at. Duke with these huge one handed slam traffic. He's landing on one foot one of the big things you see. Now when he goes up for a dunk whether it's an alley whether he's just throwing it down to hands. He tries to land on two feet as much as possible. Zeile yeah that the to hand flush and a great entry fee for Lonzo Ball over Kunst buck to finish that would KUPA gotta be thinking. What in the world so. It's little things that maybe you don't know at nineteen years old that the Pelicans are trying to instill in him so they can take a little bit of stress off of his knees. The biggest thing you just said is nineteen if you listen to Zion. He'll make sure he tells you. He's nineteen in just about every other interview. I feel like I mean but doesn't right like we are so busy trying to make him either the savior of a lead. That doesn't need to be saved or the reason that we're over. Hyping somebody to the point that people ridicule how much we talk about it but you look at it at some point. Say this is a nineteen year old kid. We're talking about that is absolutely crushing in a limited sample size. So let's turn the tone positive here for a second you're looking at a nineteen year old kid. What he's doing is unprecedented right. It's absolutely unprecedented. Feel like every other night we were finding ways to start a sentence with Zion Williamson. Doing something and we ended it with Michael Jordan or Shaquille O'Neill or Tim Duncan or wilt. Chamberlain the goes on and on and on. And you're like that doesn't make sense.
Lonzo Ball shows off his new incredibly detailed tattoo sleeve
"Lonzo ball and no longer laker he's down in new orleans part of the big trade but <hes> making some news this week not so much for anything. He's doing but for what he has had done to him. If you haven't seen it it's all over the the internet internet. Lonzo got a sleeve arm sleeve left arm of great kind of <hes> likenesses of historic figures in the african american light. You know these transcendent figures. It's martin luther king junior. It's malcolm x. It's barack bama harriet tubman rosa parks and jackie robinson. You can go look this tweeted out of camp brothers. This is the most stunning tattoo i've ever seen not just not just for the the the the striking but like the quality of it. It is incredibly some of the best best tattoo artwork when you really think about tattooing as art. This is some of the best art work done in this form. I've ever seen scene. It's like i don't under- by st no exaggeration at st butcher tattoos guy named steve butcher. You guys are going to have on yes right coming up tomorrow. He is based on a corona. He's he'll come on tomorrow. Four forty men today's his birthday happy birthday. He's gonna come on today what he's doing other things. He's gonna get a a lot of publicity on his birthday bissau's magic johnson now we did a list of the best tattoos on lonzo ball's body trying to figure out who would be i it would be nickel but it's the will depend. Is it alphabetical well first name or last night. If magic did it for his name yeah magic name yes which is the unconventional way of doing it on top of the unconventional album barack obama yes number one rock will be i <hes> and then you know i'm not doing this. Lebron won every here number two too but i mean this is. This is amazing but like i just the one question when i saw this was i i feel like we are a nation of generally ignorant. People like everyone and like i the pressure to feel like okay. I know my stuff when you're putting these these people on your arm. When you're putting jackie robinson rosa parks malcolm x martin luther king junior barack obama harriet tubman like i love the sentiment behind it but you gotta know your history. You gotta know who these people. I don't know if i agree with that. I feel like oh no see. I disagree with that. You should know but i feel like once you put that on your arm and you go that far out of your way to put that on your arm. Everybody actually assumes that you know if anything anything you just the average person is gonna feel incredibly investment cover up your ignorant. The average person now is going to feel incredibly intimidated intimidated around lonzo to make sure they know their stuff like your going to be the one that feels the pressure to be able to talk about black. So what are you saying. Brian k af via lonzo has martin luther king on his arm you saying he has to go all the m._l._k. Parades from now on you go to whatever the you want the job. I'm just saying like i would feel this enormous pressure to really like unless you gotta understand who these people are and what they did know your history. You told calling me a story about a personal reality. Show wondered how they got the trains underground for harry thomas.
NBA, San Diego And NFL discussed on The Herd
"The first day of N. B. A. free agency was the day that Major League Baseball announced its all star finalists when you were listening to shows like the rich Eisen show when you were watching whatever sports shows that you were watching you tell me what got more run what was being discussed I guarantee it was the NBA and if the NBA ever decided not too started season in October but to slide it back a couple of months start in January a little later head into the summer man I'm telling you and I've heard it from baseball executives they be terrified if that were to happen seems like more more specially for those of us and and I am I'm a baseball lover I'm not a baseball basher any of the audience just tuning in today from San Diego you've heard me say something along these lines over the years but it is hyper regional to whatever market it is that you're talking about N. I. N. A. N. B. A. it would it would make me nervous if I were baseball that I get so overshadowed by this tsunami of NBA news forget about the NFL the NFL takes over everything but it makes me nervous that this summer we're talking about summer league the last couple of years Lonzo ball Diane Williamson who's who's not played imagine if he was imagine if Zayn William seven the New Orleans pelicans every night we're giving you some sort of highlight and what that would do to baseball I don't know that the NBA will do such a thing but I've heard it from baseball executives they're a little bit nervous they're all in the shadow when they're all secondary to the NFL but when you were losing headlines and market share so the NBA and your the quote unquote national pastime good luck
"lonzo ball" Discussed on ESPN Chicago 1000 - WMVP
"Are you breaking news daily? Jacoby. Not that mean. That's what I would do Levin would give in seven for four in Lonzo ball. An Lonzo ball Levin and seven foreign ball. That's what I would do interesting. Is that going to happen? We'll see. But that's what I would do. He didn't deny anything. They get any kept repeating. That's what I would do translate that for us that feels like there's something to that. And we you know we talked about last week because there were smoke around that. And when the, the pelicans and the Lakers, did their deal. Everyone's wondering why the bulls were a third party to I'm gonna stay firm though with my thoughts on having trading for Lonzo ball trading away shooting trading four Lonzo ball and having the fourth pick which if you're going to have the fourth pick, you would assume you would trade for to get Darius garland. So then why would you also train for point? It feels very redundant rare. So that makes me feel like they would trade for per over something and pick him with the fourth and go along the ball. The Lonzo ball thing I've warmed up to just a little bit just because I do think this bulls roster like needs something I don't think it's long ago, but it needs something I think there's, there's such a like, if a bunch of nice players and market and to find, you know. To maybe take a swing expenses with one of these guys whose tied drastic last couple years, I can see the reasoning behind that, but going up to four and then getting Lonzo ball seems so crazy to me. You know what it will happen? They will actually I just talked myself into exactly what will happen. Jalen rose, confirmed it and guard packs in their draft strategy confirmed as well. We know that they were fans of Lonzo coming out of college so maybe they everything, right? That's how you get Chris dumb that votes for providence to detectable is not a good pro, and they say, well, we loved him come out of college straightforward. It's crazy that they don't update their and I'm not saying Lonzo stocking dramatically fallen, but you see what it is. And I told gave you guys this line last week. But I love saying it over and over, because it makes you feel like an insider, but it's a maker mislead and so you have long ago balls your point card. You can't score. You can't you three he and he's a great passer, and he's a really good defender. But like he's not, you know what I mean? You can't you can't try out up on guys. You can't spread the floor. I know Burt marketing had anything. I don't I don't like. I'm not warm to that concept of that being, you know, highly likely either, do they believe that they can play. With garland and Lonzo ball in the same back court. I mean that, that would be interesting. But again, like I don't know if you have this. I don't like you have two guards and neither of them is a plus plus shooter. I feel like that's not a recipe for winning in the NBA today. The one thing I will say they will throw in on the pro side of Lonzo ball coming to Chicago if that were to happen. I think I think lavar ball, just move into caps house rights and just be hanging out all the time, like he would he would be on every, I think we would get before ball on like the cubs post game report, as well. He you know, it's funny because now Kappa soured on him. You know, he was he twice right away. He challenged him to a coaching contest during one of those appearances. And then now all of a sudden now he doesn't wanna talk to lavar ball again. We can rekindle that, that I think that has to be part of the trade, I think it has to be written in that he lavar ball has to be sitting next to cast for all, you know, on the field at Wrigley for X amount of pre game shows before the cops. That would be that's the new captain company. Oh, yeah. Yes. Speaking of Wrigley..
LaMelo Ball commits to play in Australian NBL
"The pelicans were the only ones that we're trying to figure out how to deal with the ball family. No lamelo ball, has joined the ele- Warrick hawks of the Australian Illawarra did it of the Australian National Basketball league. So they now get to figure out how to deal with lavar, but lamelo is headed there. He played. Let's remember in Lithuanian twenty eight team for year unlikely he could've played in college under the eligibility rules, but he is still a top prospect for next year's draft. And listen. We, we have talked about, you know, lavar and played some of the sound yesterday, just we everybody knows our, our feelings, or at least try yours. A little different, but about lavar, but this has nothing to do with the kids. I wish nothing but success for those kids and men. I remember Mela when we used to see him, you know, in high school before the whole thing started going to Lithuanian then last year play what was inspires I in Ohio, which was a prep school where he played he's like six six six seven out great ball handler, and, and good enough. It would seem at this point to be a lottery. Pick you ought to be the number one pick in the draft next year. We'll see as far as this classes, concern of guys would be going to college of which he is not. He was ranked twenty first in ESPN's class of one hundred RJ Hampton who's going to play for the New Zealand breakers in the same league as ball in the NBL. He was ranked the number five prospects. So you're getting a couple of guys going there, and then we'll see what happens with the draft, but six six six seven ball handler. Heck of a player no doubt about it. And he's going to get some good tests in that because one of the knocks on is the physicality, we talk about with. Actually Lonzo ball as well and going and play where he's going to play that certainly gonna
Sources: Lakers reach deal for Pelicans' Davis
"Yesterday on sports air. Here's Adrian wards now ski breaking down. The trade of Anthony Davis to the Lakers. This is a monster. Paul for the New Orleans pelicans to get to starters. Lonzo ball. Brandon Ingram an upstanding young player. Josh heart three, first round picks including the number four overall pick and Thursdays draft which allows the world not only draft Zion Williamson, at one, but number four, get another potential. Very good young player. But for the Lakers. They paid a steep price to get the player they had to get. They were able to keep Kyle Kuzma they had to get Anthony Davis. They weren't at the top of any big free agents lips. But it certainly changes the dynamic of that lake organization. What's next for the Lakers Agent Orange now on sportscenter who could they target in free agency. They'll get out into free agency this later this month, June, thirtieth and see if they can get involved with one of the big players on the market. Go Kemba Walker from Charlotte. They could certainly plug him in point guard if he doesn't resign with the Hornets he's a player that will be available teams like Dallas, New York have had interest in him. And you know there's a lot of teams in the marketplace looking for point guards this summer. You know, Jimmy Butler is another player if they are unable to come to terms on a new deal in Philadelphia. I think there would be some mutual interest soon as, as rewards announcing on sportscenter the Lakers. They get Anthony Davis a couple of weeks ago. It looked like they were in complete disarray with magic. Johnson. Rob Pelinka and everything going on there. Everything has now corrected itself with one major trade. The Lakers always find a way and tweeting just now for now expectation is Anthony Davis. Trade will be completed on July sixth league. Sources tell Bobby marks me assuming Davis. Declines to void four million dollar trade bonus this leaves the Lakers with twenty three point seven million in space. There is a chance that could be amended to July thirtieth, but it's still the sixth for now. Okay. So if it's six then the Lakers won't have the money to go out and get a MAC, Scott. They only have twenty three point seven. Look, if I'm over the key, here is that if they were able to wait for this deal to the thirtieth, July, thirtieth, then the Lakers would have that cap space. Go out and get Kemba Walker. Jimmy Butler someone else who wants max money. Yeah. Now, the question to me, and I love conspiracy theories, and I believe in them, and I think that you could get LeBron like what's stopping LeBron from going to the guys and? Saying, hey, Jimmy Butler signed a two year. I know you love Hollywood, your friends with the wall, burger guy with Donnie will Mark Mark, Mark Wahlberg, right? Yeah. What's stopping me from Saint sign a two year deal take twenty million a year or twenty million twenty million, whatever it is? And here's a part in Space Jam to for a couple of million dollars as well to, you know, just help to make it up somewhere else. Give some points on the movie too. You know, like let's get him some return on the DVD sales. Maybe to my point is what's stopping LeBron from doing this. There's nothing stopping LeBron from doing this behind the scenes. Okay. So why are you? You're acting like LeBron's our doing this. We know Brian Windhorst told the world on PTI back in mid-may that LeBron was having conversations with Kalat quite learn. Jimmy Butler even though quieter Jimmy Butler. We're still in the playoffs playing Jimmy Butler is still playing the first rider with Chris Paul. And Russell Westbrook yesterday. Yeah. I mean, and that's what he does LeBron does, and here's the key here, blocking dollar here on ESPN one thousand and ESPN app. This is why people love the NBA you have a chance every off season to remake your team. And to go for industrial bulls and the key here is this, you have right now, if you count the Lakers, what could possibly happen, this summer with the clippers the nets the Knicks the heat, the rockets, the seventy Sixers the Mavericks, they have cap space. And an owner who who wants to win and the Celtics that right there. That's nine teams in seven cities, all that will have interests this summer all with interest as what they can do to reshape their organization going forward trying to win a championship nine teams seven cities. That's what makes the NBA great is that movement is not solidified in the fact that you're in one spot, and you have to be there for your career, the NFL is built on the fact that you get a star quarterback and that quarterback will be your franchise until you don't want that star quarterback there. Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers will be together until Aaron Rodgers or the Green Bay Packers. Mostly the Packers don't want him to be there. Why? Because they can afford to pay him and quarterbacks. Don't move about in the NFL like star players in the NBA Ken, they can dictate policy. They can force it away somewhere. I get it some people erupts them the wrong way. But to others. It means your organs. Station each and every off season has an opportunity to take
Lonzo Ball Says Father LaVar Won't Help Choose His Next Agent
"Lonzo ball so Ramona reported yesterday on Twitter last night that Lonzo has parted ways with his agent that stuff happens all the heat. Lonzo went out of his way to talk about how this has nothing to do with what happened with the big baller brands numb like this. This is the basketball agent and. And so on and so forth guy always had his back at cetera Harrison gains. So then Chris Hanes reports. Earlier today, I'd say. Probably like, you know, earlier this morning after the phone, lavar. Correct. Okay. Lavar Christopher in that lavar still at very much in control and are called Chris. And that he is shopping around Lonzo, and he wants to make you know, shop around for an agent and the Genesis of him wanting to shop around for an agent is find someone to get the three boys on the
Lakers shut down LeBron James for rest of season
"Lebron James is shutting it down for the rest of the season. We will not see the king play basketball anymore. Luke, Walton said that they had to convince LeBron James to shut it down. Do you think they've really had to convince him to shut it? Now, not they had to convince them. It just became a reality of the situation. We have a handful of games remaining. You did a great job of showing that you did recover enough from your groin injury to still be productive which was when he got back into the lineup. So now that we understand that you're going to be healthy going forward. Lonzo ball is implant. We're going to the lottery clearly it is time for him to end the season. I mean, I know you don't like resting healthy players. But to me, this is just the obvious right decision. Do you agree with that? It's the logical decision not necessarily the right decision. Nobody felt like we'd be at this point with LeBron James. To the point where we would question whether they be in the playoffs. Let alone so far out of the playoffs. And it don't matter whether he plays or not so because of that storm and him going into a seventeen seventeen season. It's logical even fans would say like kinda makes sense for him not to play. If we want to see them next year when you look at the Lakers, you know, their ability to win games with them and out LeBron James, there's a drastic difference there. I mean, they're not going to be winning very many games the rest of the season. But we do have some information about LeBron James if some are plans, you gotta remember he usually plays like another two months. So he's got a lot of free time. And what's he doing with that free time? He's not going to play with team USA in the World Cup. He is going to film Space Jam to. He said he's going to have a court Bill onset. So he can still train while it's building Space Jam to what do you think about LeBron James filming Space Jam to he went in that game
NBA rumors: Lakers' Anthony Davis trade offers don't impress Pelicans
"Trade deadline is two days away. And Davis wants to be traded. But it's going to take a ton to land him multiple reports say the Lakers increase their offer to the pelicans yesterday with a package that included Lonzo ball, Brandon Ingram cow coups and two first round picks reports the pelicans are looking for more including four picks as part of a deal and Ramona Shelburne reports the Lakers are quote, growing increasingly pessimistic about the pelicans willingness to make a deal.
Michael Beasley, Anthony Davis And Kuzma discussed on CBB: Notre Dame at Boston College
"Rather. The NBA trade deadline is a Thursday and sources tell ESPN's hatred awards and ask you that. The Lakers initial trade offer to the pelicans for Anthony Davis underwhelming with Elise opera pile. Kuzma, Lonzo ball. Rajon? Rondo Michael Beasley in a first round pick for the
Anthony Davis Trade Rumors: Pelicans May Make Counteroffer to Lakers
"Anthony Davis says if feels like his time is now that he's given all he can to the pelicans. And he's ready to move on the all-star informing New Orleans earlier this week. He'd like to be traded said Friday that his intention is as long as he can is a member of this organization, but legacy does factor in this decision. Oh. Lexi. Goes good. I'm playing. Know. What is my legacy going to be? That's the younger AD. Anthony Davis senior telling ESPN's Ramona Shelburne that he doesn't want his son to play for the Celtics after quote what they had done to Isaiah Thomas. No loyalty guy gives his heart and soul Nate traded him. They did trade him for Kyrie Irving over by the way. Meantime, the pelicans are mulling over what to do with the six time all star as next Thursday's deadline approaches. Wold on the Lakers. I offer for Davis is underwhelming leaks. Sources league sources tell me that the Lakers I offer to the pelicans included cow coups Ma Rajon Rondo, Michael Beasley, Lonzo ball and a first round pick. And the Lakers offered have offered a few variations. Of deals, but but all of them have only included in each of them. A couple of the Lakers are among the Lakers. Several good young players. Just two of them in each offer and Rondo or land Stevenson are in almost every offer and essentially. In your starting point in these kinds of talks, especially for a player of Anthony Davis has stature would be most of your good young players and multiple first round picks. And the pelicans haven't got an offer yet. I'm told that includes more than one first round
Anthony Davis, New Orleans And STAN Van Gundy discussed on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
"STAN Van Gundy is with us and we have been remiss. Okay. And I'm sorry standing Gundy is not said anything anywhere on any of ESPN's one million platforms about the Anthony Davis situation. I don't know what he thinks. So let's begin their stand. You saw that happen. And you thought what? Well, a few things I think first of all I think fans and everybody else can be assured that nothing like this will ever happen again with a player publicly requesting a trade that fifty thousand dollar fine on Anthony Davis will only makes twenty three and a half million year, the deterrent value there. So sick so strong. This'll be the last time this happened. So I think you can be assured of that. I it's sort of amazing me the the resentment that's out there by a lot of people both fans and media about this whole issue of the players are controlling where they wanna play in who they wanna play with. And he's forcing his way to LA in the whole thing. And I'm just wondering why it it's so upsetting to people that someone would try to take control of their own careers. I mean, most people do that. But for some reason with players, and I think we know in the NBA that a big part of it is race. But people get very upset about the players controlling this thing. And then I love the the last thing is I just love all the trade talk because people want the super teams, and so the trades they propose like Boston. You would get either Jason Tatum or. Jalen Brown in Marcus smart in a in a pick. That would be great. And then the guy right? Imagine what Boston would have. Yeah. But New Orleans isn't going for that, you know, and that the Lakers might have to throw in Brandon Ingram with with Lonzo ball, and Kyle Kuzma might this guy's one of the players in the league. And then my favorite line from one of the articles is he wrote about some tradenet forget, which one that New Orleans would be well within their rights to ask for player. A and b New Orleans can ask through over the hill. I want to ask for their within their rights. It's almost like people have this idea that New Orleans has an obligation to accommodate Anthony Davis. Look what Anthony Davis did in Rich, Paul? I have no problem with as a matter of fact think it helps the teen in a way because they let them know right away. New Orleans can trade him to anyone they want to trade him to he's got this year and next year. They don't have to limit themselves to anywhere that he wants to go and they're going to make the best deal for themselves. And I personally don't think they'll probably make it by the trade deadline. They increase relaxing yesterday. They should ask for LeBron. Well, you know, what that's where you would start him. I think people talk about Boston you'd start with kyri. And then and then if not basically for Anthony Davis, you if you're going to protect one guy, you basically have to offer up everything else, particularly now at the trade deadline.
Is it possible for the Rockets to beat the Warriors?
"Want to buy. Aids. Is it possible? The rockets could get it together by the Western Conference fund where they're better than they were last year. Is that possible? I don't think so it's not possible. I don't think so I think that's poss- adult at the sixty five wins as good as they looked last year. I don't think it's possible for most teams to be better than they look lashes out. But what I mean is actually better like the the warriors one seventy three games. Yeah. And then they got better because they added the rent their regular season record wasn't as good. But in the moment of truth, they were clearly the best team. And of course, they should be big favorites. Again, the way they've been looking recently. And the talent we know they have my point is if you believe it's possible for the rockets to actually in the moment of truth now that they have the experience of last year be better than they were last year. They only need to be that much better by the snow. You don't think the lawyers? Got you go, Molly, I'm trying to make. It's just interesting doing down that ladder. They had no man that tell C P three got hurt. I just. Very very very clear. My reservations for Oakland have already been made. There is no there's no issue. Here is your I will be in Oakland at oracle ju- where where are you going to be on the east coast with us? I'm hoping I'm hoping today Milwaukee. But only for you know, I may wanna socialite that's all your team because a lot of drama goes another day in more support coming out for Pittsburgh's Antonio Brown. This time for fellow wideout juju Smith Schuster crazy stuff about AB. You gotta fill in a law firm. If you come back, you guys welcome. And they man he may he's guy. Yeah. Well, I wonder what his teammates feel about this tweet from AB who usually says businesses Bowman and right now, Stephen he's open for business. It'd be over for whatever you want still is Abbas right to say other so exc- he could be open to whatever he wants. I don't give a damn about Antonio Brown's feelings right now I wanted to stay with this. These that great. And really, by the way, I'm not telling you anything. I haven't told him. Yeah. If a damn by his feelings, I want him on a steel course. I don't want to Steelers to trade this, man. He's great. He's too. Great figuring it out. I'll give it there. You gotta give them a massage pedicure. You gotta take them. You gotta have sports therapy sessions with you gotta go play with his cage got treated to dinner for the next day. What you gotta do. Now. I will say this. I want him to apologize to Mike Tomlin to for pudding that coach in that position. But particularly considering the paucity of African American coaches, so only two and NFL it'd be three by the time. New England wins the Super Bowl, I guess unless they lose the bottom line is is that I don't like the position. He put my Tomlin. And that's about it outside of that. He doesn't want get Tomlin put him. That's fair. That's fair. Let's get over it and figure that I or Rooney is saying I don't see how you can be on the team next year. Yeah. And all the press all the chirping out of the Steelers negative towards the future with Antonio round. Like, we don't we don't see it, basically. Now, all of the sudden juju Smith Schuster, though, watching his body language and his and hey, Derek Carr. Yeah. I'm I'm inferring. What I see? That's true. I didn't seem to me like it was in juju Smith, Schuster heart. But you can't know another Mantar all you can do is inferred from what you see. Didn't I don't know? If he if those words that are coming out of his mouth reflect the way, he's feeling, but I'll let me read between the lines a little bit. It seems to me Stephen A that at the point that they were saying all that stuff. They were probably thinking we are going to try to trade him. And probably I imagine started to kick the tires on some trade ideas like one could they get back for him. And I think what I read this. As is. Maybe what's happening here is they're not liking what they're hearing in terms of the return on moving Antonio Brown. And that they're better off with him. That's my sense. If they don't if that is true, then the Steelers would have everything to do with that. Because how do you want to trade such as surreal asset and command top dollar a top cash eighth for him? When in fact, you've served a role in excoriating, correct? So what you do don't they say this is what happened with Kyrie? Right. When the whole world. Knows he's outta there. Or you're gonna get the best offer. The worst offer at the worst offer you have to make people believe that he's going to stay whether that's because you don't get the offer you want. It's going to snake or to make people believe it. So they come with a better offer before we move onto LeBron. I just have to say this quick. I don't think I ever gave you props on this. When lady on bell was sitting going to sit out. And I was like there's no way he sits out. You're like, no he's probably going to sit out and he sat out the entire season. I think you're the only person that actually believed that he would do that. When we think he could do if you wanted the gold at the end of the grandma never would his type talent on that team. But happened LeBron James on this is fifteen straight game with the Lakers take on the Timberwolves tonight. But he hasn't been ruled out for Sunday's matchup with the sons, according to coach Luke Walton when he was injured on Christmas day the Lakers weren't fourth place in the west since they injury, Los Angeles five and nine they've dropped to ninth plates in the west, Stephen A. How bad is what bronze injury for the Lakers of worry. I was told not to be worry if LeBron James Levy reading. Needed to he could go out the plate, and he would be ready, but I find this to be the most significant injury of his career I'm incredibly concerned because I want the Lakers to get a big time free agent. I want them to make some noise in the summertime, and I think that obviously when you took thirty four years of age, they are going to be people who are going to question your ability, even the great LeBron James almost never hurt. So the fact that he's outright. Now, you have to wonder whether or not a potential free agent is going to look at that. And question how much time does he have left at this level? That's when I'm not saying there's any legitimacy to that. I'm simply saying that that's a reasonable cause for concern. And so the bright lights LA Tinseltown palm tree. So the California weather notwithstanding. You'd never know what some marquee free agent is going to look at when it comes to Magic Johnson. Lincoln picking up the phone to call them and say come on L A what I man the Bron. When in fact, they're wondering about LeBron. More. I look at this more. I think Jerry's going to be a Laker. Yeah. Because I started to run down the scenarios if it's not a Y, and it doesn't look like it'll be why I wouldn't put anything past magic he landed. Lebron after all if it's not going to be K D or someone like that if Kemba Walker in fact wants to stay where he is. And they work that out if Mike Conley is not the answer in a trade. And if the Celtics don't wanna give Kyrie a supermax like why would we want to stay in Boston, not only that they're extremely talented coach the whole thing, but he'd get a supermax deal. Then I think kyri and LeBron could come around in their own minds to seeing a reconciliation as hey, what if Kobe and shack worked it out what if they parted ways? But then they said, you know, what we messed this up. Let's work this out and that eventually the Lakers would be Kyrie's team that's got to be very appealing. We know kyri has relationship with Kobe. And could you imagine if the Lakers didn't have to give up any assets at this trade deadline, if they kept Ingram and Kuzina and. An and heart and all these guys and simply added KYW read or run Bill that happens where are they in the west for ten Kyrie's there right now with LeBron and LeBron's healthy. And assuming Ingraham continues to improve and mom gets a little better share, maybe one more acquisition the right acquisition. Lakers can win the chip next year. If kyri is there, you do not need Lonzo ball. They're correct. And that means you might get something for Lonzo. Then you might not need Brandon Ingram either. Say that happening playing with LeBron listen, I'm told that is far fetched kyri is happy and Boston. He has no intentions of leaving. But Kenny had ever go around not shutting. I don't have to pretend I'm not sharing anything anything's together. Anything is they get back together for now. Sure about that. Thanks. Mitch listening to the podcast gets. I take weekdays ten AM eastern ESPN.
"lonzo ball" Discussed on The Herd with Colin Cowherd
"We saw it. Lonzo ball was good. Lonzo ball played minutes. And the the Lakers won. The Lakers are now three and one when Lonzo plays more moments or more minutes than Rondo and Chris Broussard came on earlier, we talked about this. There was a battle going into the season veteran Rondo young Lonzo again last night. Lonzo got the major minutes and the Lakers looked really good and Bruce talked about that you got one player that needs the ball. And that can't shoot. That's rondo. You've got another player who has proven. He doesn't need the ball, and he can shoot off the ball spot up shoot. That's lonzo. Obviously lonzo's gonna fit better with LeBron. They wanted to win to some degree. Now, they're not thinking championship. But they're thinking, hey, we do want to make the playoffs. We do want to make a little noise in the playoffs. That's why they went out and got Rondo land. Stevenson. And the veterans so those necessarily go together. Lonzo ball last night. Lakers. One too. Big leads almost blew it. He went three for three from beyond the arc. He had seven assists. No turnovers. He's a better defender than Rondo and. Well, I think Lonzo I think Lonzo juxtaposed with Rondo he's more chill. And I also think as I said earlier growing up with lavar he's okay being in the shadow when you're surrounded by a loud alpha. And I think he's worked very well with LeBron James tomorrow on the show the red hot blazing five Peter King TJ Hirschman zodda, the blazing five office to its best start ever can Jon Gruden saved the season for the raiders tonight. It's the her..
"lonzo ball" Discussed on The Herd with Colin Cowherd
"NBA regular season November October game, I'm not going to. But I will tell you this it once again proved Lonzo ball's better than Rondo and I've been on this for two weeks. Lonzo ball played twice them in its Rondo last night. The Lakers one again when that happens. That's happened. Four times there are three and one. And the only loss was in overtime. Lonzo by the way was three for three on threes. Lonzo by the way, had seven assists and no turnovers and Lonzo has separated himself defensively he is much but on the Rondo. For all the Lonzo ball haters. He is better than Rondo. And the Lakers are better when he plays more minutes than Rondo, Rondo is moody and inconsistent Rondo pixes spots TV games. TNT what he wants to play. Well last night was not a big TV game. They played the Mavericks. It was a Wednesday. Nobody watched in Rondo was to for seven and had a minus twenty one plus minus. Lonzo should be playing three minutes for every minute. Rondo plays. Lonzo is better than Rondo. And lonzo's the future not Rondo. And here's the other thing is that Kuzina. Brandon Ingram, Josh heart and Lonzo they're boys. They're buddies their friends. Rondo is in friends with anybody in an article a year ago. He said, quote, I'm not really into people unquote, Rondo is the NBA's transient moody vagrant who shows up in a town doesn't make friends sometimes help she'll win. And then people tire of him watch. The Lakers would Lonzo last night. Better communication cleaner. The ball moves better. The team is better. And they win Luke Walton? I think he's figuring it out lonzo's better for the team better for the results and Lonzo is better than Rondo. You know, something else would Lonzo ball. And I I know lavar ball is very controversial. And a lot of people don't like lavar ball his dad's methods right Iowa said I'm not going to criticize a dad period. But I'm not gonna cut us is a dad that got his kids to UCLA. Here's what's interesting one of the things that you could argue. Is that Lonzo is used to having a big personality in his life. He's okay. Being in the shadow. He doesn't need to walk in the room and be the loudest the biggest the most talked about lonzo's always fit, right? In lavar ball I've seen him when he's with Lonzo together. I've seen them is Lonzo sort of is in the shadow sort of obeys. Dad is very quiet listens to dad laughs with dad, but doesn't need to dominate the room. Lebron dominating figure in the room. Lebron dominates the ball dominates. The headlines is going to dominate. He's the most verbal player in the NBA and the floor is it possible? I know everybody wants to bang on lavar ball. But is it possible that Lonzo growing up with this outspoken loud, funny, personality driven dad, and he was in the shadow of it fits perfectly? Without agitation with a big global star. Verbal LeBron James. I don't know if this is true. But it seems to me that lonzo's grown up in an environment. He's cool with a shadow. He's cool that he's cool with it. And some of that comes from who we grow up with. So I think he personality wise really works with LeBron James five time all-star all-time great..
"lonzo ball" Discussed on The Herd with Colin Cowherd
"I always ask my staff. Give me the box score, even coaches look. Good box scores man is Lonzo ball of the Lakers. Fill up a box score, eight assists, twelve points. Five steals, six rebounds, five for ten as the Lakers beat the previously undefeated, Denver Nuggets at home. By the way, he is shooting. Now forty percent on threes. He is a very polished second-year player. The Lakers are two and one with Lonzo starting they'd be three. And now they lost to the Spurs and overtime if LeBron can hit a one free throw, they'd be three. And all with Lonzo ball. They are cleaner offensively with Lonzo. The ball moves better with Lonzo ball. The Lakers got run over two things. His I q and his toughness, but lonzo's Justice smart basketball player, and they got plenty of dogs on this team land to the dog Vail McGee Kyle Kuzma dogs aren't there issue? Here's the most impressive thing though about Lonzo ball when you come into the NBA or the NFL or major league baseball, and you have a couple of flaws, even the great ones. Do Magic Johnson couldn't shoot his first year in the league. So when you come into the league. Got a couple of flaws and one year later you corrected both of them. Damn. He came into the league, we looked up. The scouting report this morning doesn't have an NBA body. Worry about is three point shooting. His body's an NBA body in last night. Once again, his three point shooting is a real thing, folks. Derrick rose, John wall Westbrook. They've been in this league over ten years. They're big problems. They can't shoot the three. They still can't shoot it. They're big problems. Don't play well with others. They still don't play well with others. For Lonzo ball to come in the league. We knew a some stuff about him. Really good length plays. Well, with others terrific court vision doesn't turn it over that much considering how often he has the ball. We knew those things six six guard long. Great vision plays well with others. We just didn't know that NBA body. That's that's not an NBA body. Why don't you fix that? He fixed that nine months and three point shooting. It looks like I might oh, oh he fixed that too. That's what I say. Like when you come into the NFL, Patrick Mahomes, and you have a couple of issues and then a year later. I'm like, I don't know. He saw those issues. I mean Cam Newton having a pretty good year. But we're eight years in now he's just now getting the precision thing now and cams good. But we've been waiting for that thing for years to get that thing, I got taste something Lonzo ball's impressive. If you told me next ten years who's going to run the show here. Lebron's gone in four this kid's impressive here. Here's a moment. Last night with Lonzo ball. Three..
Dave Roberts, Cody Bellinger and MVP discussed on The Herd with Colin Cowherd
"World Series last night Red Sox went up to all on the dodgers at Fenway park. But don't blame. Dave Roberts in the NFL. Pete Carroll makes seven and a half million dollars. That's double what is general manager makes Sean Payton the saints makes nine million dollars a year. That's triple what is GM makes. But with the dodgers, the general manager Andrew Friedman make seven million dollars a year and the manager Dave Roberts makes one million. So stop blaming him. He wasn't allowed to play his best players last night. Because the guys up stairs run baseball. Everybody wants to did Dave Roberts. Just get dumb. Didn't even all the great moves against Milwaukee. No. He just got dumb and a week know the difference between that game last night is the Red Sox played all their best players and their stars were allowed to be stars. And Mookie Betts star three hits JD Martinez star huge RBI to RBI single. David price star sixth grade innings. Dave Roberts went to his office and said, I can't wait to we're a home run hitting team. I'm gonna pay. Oh, no. You can't play your home run hitters. Well, what do you mean? We were second in baseball and home runs. We led the National League in home runs. But the analytics overruled at upstairs and said, Cody bellinger's not gonna play I want you to think about that. Cody. Ballot ger was the National League championship series MVP. And he is not started for the first two games because he bats left handed. David price is a left hander and the numbers and the projector and the nerds and the analytics and the. Dave Roberts wasn't allowed to play. His stars. Can you imagine telling Mike dantonio the rockets you can't start James harden and play him? Can I play them later? Yeah. Couple minutes late in the game. Why? Well, analytic say, he'll stroke. Can you imagine? Ballot. Check being told by general manager can't play gronk what about in the no no analytic say you cannot play. Gronk. He doesn't match up folks. The dodgers three leading home run hitters. None started their nationally championship series. MVP? Didn't get a start there. Three leading home run hitters got three at bats whole game combined. Come on you want blame? Listen, don't blame the bagel if you're overweight and don't blame traffic if you're late to work leave earlier, eat better. It's ridiculous to keep beating up on these managers. I to me in October stars Trump analytics I want Mantelet ex and David Ortiz and a-rod after the game. We're saying basically, you didn't play Bellinger. What did you expect? Act a neuter their MVP. You can see it in his face the body language. He's got family. He's France Texan. I'm saying didn't you just win them p, bro? In the play of nobody knew the day up. You've over turned on the motor. What nobody is fans. One to see dot guy
Lakers, LeBron James and LeBron discussed on First Take
"What's going on. Everybody welcome. I take Molly came here and we have some major. Exciting news here on I take. I am so happy. So Maxon Stephen may be on vacation, but they are getting ready to take on the Big Apple. I take officially moving to a new studio in New York City. The debut show airs on Labor Day, September, third. So we may be changing the location, but you can still expect the same hot towards debate. And of course, lots of special guests and surprises to welcome the show to New York in speaking of a voice. I miss Steven, you're on the phone. Hey, how's vacation going in your discreet location? Disclose location? Yes. I'm loving loving. Neely, I, you know, I relaxed enough to get ready to beat up on Maxwell another year. And what have you that's a given look comes with the territory, but I mean credibly excited that we're moving to New York City both myself and maximum native New Yorkers. It's been a long time coming. It's something that pleaded in baseball for years, and finally it's happening. So I'm incredibly excited. Yes, I am Stephen, I cannot wait. And I think one of the major things I'm excited about is obviously, you know, it's the mecca for for a lot of things, especially I still consider the NBA as well. And I think certain guests will be able to get there in a lot of other surprise and stuff will have for the show. So I think it'd be major, but I, I know you have to be kind of sad because you're not going to have to drive up to bristle anymore. You're not gonna come up here. You know what it is. It is a very, very sad day because I mean, what's not to love about Bristol, Connecticut. I mean. ESPN down the block that there's a McDonald's and and and and and a ruby Tuesdays and stuff like that. I've really, it's really sad that I'm not going to be able to be there because I'm going to be in new you most times and on occasion, I'll find myself with John and feed and Dominic in LA. I mean my God, it's such a tough tough situation, but I think I'll say, I can't wait and obviously can't wait at four t with you guys. Now that'll be on your home city, but saving, I'll tell team soon. I hope you are actually relaxing for some reason. I don't believe you, but please do that because you know, once you're back, you're back. Just know this when I'm back copy ready, then I'll tell, sorry my condolences to Mexico element in advance must've taken. It's about to be out. All right, Steven, Al. Talk to you soon. All righty. Thank you. Congratulations, Shane. Okay. So we have a first day moving to the Big Apple catch us every day at ten eastern starting on September. Third. Sports right now. I'm at Collins, new Denver Nuggets. Point guard. Isaiah Thomas is sitting down with our MBA insider h. g. now ski, I t who signed a one year two million dollars contract with the nuggets. Last week opened up to watch telling him this free agency was flat out disappointing, the twenty nine year old who continues to fight the perceptions of his help. One onto say, quote, people know that I've earned deserve the Bax contract, and that's the only reason why I didn't get paid what I deserved because I got injured. I get that. The biggest thing for me was to get to the best opportunity for me this summer and show that I'm healthy. You can read. We'll just four article on Thomas right now on ESPN dot com. Staying in the NBA with Kawai heading to Toronto on the broad in Los Angeles. We're looking ahead to who are the best and worst team heading into the season where than forty ESPN reporters, insiders and editors came out with a new set of power rankings. You'd think with James in Los Angeles Lakers at least at the. Five think again, no surprise. The warriors are on top, but three of the top five teams are from the Eastern Conference, the Lakers checking nine, but that's only the six best among Western Conference teams. Let's get back to. I takes Tony. Thank you the Lakers outing. Another piece to help LeBron next season's dining, Michael Beasley to a one year deal. As you just heard the Lakers are number nine in our latest NBA tower, rankings Mazel serve with you. Do think the Lakers or more likely to surprise us as upcoming season or disappoint, you know, I'm a huge Lakers fan. I think they are more likely to disappoint what fortunately with you to say that look. I mean, there are some really interesting piece. I liked the addition of Michael Beasley. They need shooters, but there are some really challenging personalities on this roster land Stevenson and Ray John Rondo and javale McGee. And now Michael Beasley, the expectations are so high for this team. And I think ultimately we're talking about a team that's going to be the six to seven seed. I think in the Western Conference I would never count LeBron. But LeBron James, I don't think has ever been on a team that has finished six or seven in its conference. I think it's going to be a very, very tough challenge for Luke. Walton debt may be the toughest job in the NBA right now, balancing those personalities, balancing those egos and keeping LeBron James happy. Can I respond to Mr. happy over here? Does he need to get in there and say, as I like to say, my real job is at the as the Lakers radio play by play guy. This is going to be great. It's going to be a fascinating lab experiment. Number one, we got LeBron look at the roster LeBron had last year in Cleveland compared to this roster this wrestlers just as good, maybe better. I can't wait to see how these pieces come to. And keep in mind. The Lakers young guys are all getting ready to make a jump. Brandon Ingram doubled his statistical numbers. Last year, Josh Hart was just the MVP of summer league Lonzo ball's coming off of a minor knee surgery, but I expect him to get better this year and Kyle Kuzma was the steal of the draft. I can't wait to see what this Lakers team looks like with will run as the leader. The games are going to be ridiculously exciting, and most of all, we're not going to be losing anymore. I've suffered through five straight losing seasons. The end of that is here, and I think that the Lakers are going to surprise a lot of people in the opposite of Mason. Dominique. I think the Lakers are, if you look at that roster, there's some real possibilities. I think I agree with you in part because I don't think the expectations are very high expectations are pretty low for this team right now. All the reporting about other opinions about this team is that they're the. Main team there. They're a bunch of guys who are wildcards and is no way that you can put together. And it seems like every other week, the Lakers are coming out trying to defend their roster construction and try and explain to us what they're thinking. I think what they're trying to put together as a smart team of bunch of guys who have veteran experience that are adaptable on defense can pass pretty well not as many shoot as you would like to see. But they have a couple of shooters. I think they have a decent team and they have a guy by the name of LeBron James. I don't know if you guys watch the playoffs last year, watch any basketball. James is pretty damn good, and he makes your team a contender immediately. So I think that's -tations are low. So I think they will surprise and then you look at the Western Conference. I think we talk about how heavy how stack the Western Conference is often. I think that's a bit oversold, but to be honest, you look at some of these teams that you think LeBron's going to be worse than Utah. LeBron's going to be worse than Portland LeBron's going to be worse than Denver. Like I know they're good teams, young teams that are getting better, but he's LeBron James and he has a young good coach. Luke Walton wa think is flexible and smart enough to make this team good. I think expectations are low so they will surprise Molly. Where are you on this? They're going to surprise disappoint. What do we think? What do I think people are expecting? Tell me that for fifty wins is what the expectation is an wouldn't you agree make the Ryan that just came out, said that they were ninth in the Powell ratings, right? The ratings ESPN pirating said they're nice night than they're not yet pulling up pulling up the radio. That'd be about right because there's three Eastern Conference teams, so that would put them four, five, six in the state. I think the expectations are Western Conference finals and.
