Also earnings revisions have been have been rolled out and are expected to gather momentum. China has warned that waning global demand is the biggest threat to trade, and we had leaks to a gas pipeline between Russia and Europe that were labeled sabotaged by U.S. and German officials all hurting confidence, although we've had such a lot of selling here of late that there's a little bit of a pause in a more aggressive nature of the selling. As mentioned, we do have some losses, but we also have some gains. The ASX 200 is up about a tenth of 1%. New Zealand advancing a little, the nikkei down about three tenths of a percent. And in Seoul we are down about 7 tenths of 1%. The dollar is reasonably steady. We had some modest gains in the U.S. session that did take the Bloomberg dollar spot index to a record a new record, but he's slipping a little now down almost the tenth of 1%. Dolly and one 44 65, the pound at a dollar 7, 28, we have the 30 year UK government bond yield topping 5%. First time we've seen that in two decades, and the pound, again, holding at these lower levels just above a dollar 7. And one final note, WTI crude here, up about three tenths of a percent, 78 73, and the yield on the tenure, 3.95%. And that's so we could markets. "But the headline will read what they wanted to say, even if the actual subject, the actual quote or whatever they're getting says the opposite. People are unscrupulous with this stuff, so be careful careful with that. Be careful who it is that you're listening to. Right now this time of year because this is when you get a lot of accounts popping up just trying to get a lot of followers trying to get clout if that's what you want to call it and they will put out there whatever they think is going to get that interest. They want you to believe that they've got inside sources. And for me, again, like he said, sometimes every once in a while, one of these might be right, but most of the time I look at it and think, okay, why does this random egg avatar have information that none of the big guys have? The guys who do this professionally for a living don't have and this random account does, you always have to be skeptical with stuff like that. And then from there, it is lying season. So when you see contradictory information, don't assume that that means oh, this person is full of it. We've seen reports. We've seen the king's will treat trade deer and fox. We've seen, no, no, no, the kings won't trade deer in Fox. What you have to do is read between the lines a little bit and think, who does this benefit? Where is this information coming from? Who does it benefit? Because different sides will put out different versions of their story. So you have to think a little bit deeper, don't take everything at face value. This is a great time of year. This is one of my favorite times of the year because there's all these possibilities flying around and it's a lot of fun, but what winds up happening is when you believe the wrong people, when you listen to the wrong people and you don't do your due diligence in terms of looking at these sources, you can wind up getting very disappointed. When a deal that you thought is going to happen doesn't wind up happening. There it is, and that's when people get mad too. Why did you know GMX not make this trade? I was told that this offer was out there and it's like, you were told that by Joe 5 followers who made that up. So yeah, we're there. We're yes. We're in complete agreement on this. So guys enjoy it, have fun, go crazy. It's still a big, big part of it. Just take two seconds to look at where it's coming from and just be careful. This is weird. Absolutely. And we will do a live question and answer soon. We do exactly. But I'm talking about within the next few days. We'll do a live Q&A. We'll go over a lot of trade stuff with everybody will take questions and comments. So be on the lookout for that. That's going to be coming. We're here to help people get through the trade deadline and get through it without falling for some of the crap. That's out there frankly. Yep. And you just clinched one of the two of us is going to retweet a fake account within the next few days that didn't feel like a complete dummy. That's right. It happens to all of us..

"And Turner is out through the trade deadline, what happens with the pacers? I mean, you can certainly still trade these guys. But our team's going to be as willing to give up stuff. If they're currently injured, we'll have to see what that looks like. The nets, speaking of trades, the next are going to try to find a new home for Paul Millsap. Someplace where he can get some more minutes. It shouldn't be tough to find a deal there, but certainly Millsap hasn't quite provided with the nets we're hoping that he would. And I mean, I guess good on them to honor his request here and try to find a different place for him to play. Maybe where he can play a little bit of a bigger role. Yeah, I mean, we're at the point now with the nuts. He was inactive last night, which is probably likely to be his status now moving forward that this has come out. But they are starting to way players. Late first round picks. And those kind of things with guys out up front and Bill SAP still couldn't crack past those guys. So we think the nuts are really kind of looking at it as, hey, it's just not going to be a thing here for us. I think it's clear now to, he is very much a 5. Now, I don't think he has a foot speed to play out on the perimeter as a four anymore. I just don't think that's workable. But some team will say, you know, we could use a big. Yeah, we can use one more guy. He's on a minimum deal. So very easily movable. And I'm guessing the nets may want to do this without even anything coming back. So that way they can open up a roster spot, which either will be helpful for them at the trade deadline, or what they can do then is convert one of their two two way players. Kessel Edwards or David duke junior, who have both played very well for them at times. But the reality is head words is starting. And you get overly relying on a two way player you're in trouble because they're not playoff eligible. So if this becomes a situation where you think at all, either head words or duke might be a playoff guy for you, then you have to get a roster spotting and get them converted over. So yeah, my guess is this will come down to probably closer to the trade deadline and then some team that's, hey, we could use a big, we'll say, hey, what do you think? Can we make this happen? He was close to going to Chicago and Golden State. I think for his two teams, if not Brooklyn, and Golden State's a little harder to find the easy roster spot, I don't know that they have one, but Chicago, they've got to cut they could probably make. And so, yeah, let's make this work. Sure. Yeah, I think he'll wind up. I wind up somewhere. Sure. Part of the cam reddish deal had Solomon hill going to the Knicks and as expected the Knicks have waived hill. This was just, you know, the Knicks agreed as part of the deal to eat this salary from Solomon hill and now again, not a surprise he's out for the season with an injury..

"A couple of teams behind that. The hornets have played played better as of late. They're 7 and three in their last ten, and then if any one from the Washington, Boston, Toronto, New York group, ever kind of pulls their heads out of their rear ends. They could probably start climbing up the standings too. So yeah, I mean, it is super condensed impact. There. And I think what's really interesting is that you can look at that two ways. You can say, we don't need to do anything. We're already pretty good. There's no reason to rush this, or you can look at and say, well, if you're already this good and then this good of place, what if you go replace that zero, you get from Simmons every day with something? Would you jump up the standings even more? And that's the kind of back and forth. And you know that's the conversation that's playing out in Phillies for an office. I don't know who because I would never say who, but I know there's someone in that front office who every day when they meet as a staff is like, we got to do it. We got to trade them. We got to go get what we can. To go all in. Because you don't want a bunch of people that sit around and have the exact same ideas. Because then you get groupthink and that's not productive. Yo, yeah, and then there's people on the other side saying, we can be patient. We don't need to do this. And that's how it's playing out right now. So long story short, don't expect to Ben Simmons. Bomb in the next week here, probably if anything, it's going to go right down to deadline week. Especially if mori feels fairly confident that, hey, maybe, you know, if we decide that we want to go this route, there's a king's deal out there that makes sense. Yeah, cool. That deal's not going to go anywhere in the next two weeks or whatever. So he can sit back and say, all right, let's see what else comes in. And then if we decide that we definitely want to trade him, all right, then maybe we do this king's thing, or maybe the king's up there offer. But whatever, let's see how this plays out as we get closer to the deadline. And that's what we could get a pretty exciting February 10th, which would be good for you and me. Yeah, we'll have the same in siren, ready to go. That's right. Or there's even a real quality room or we will sound the Simmons sir and long and loud..

"Hello everybody, welcome back to the NBA front office show. We took a little day off yesterday to rest up a bit because we know the trade deadlines coming up and the slow news days are going to be few and far between. So today we are back at it. We've got a lot more to get into, some stuff on Ben Simmons, some stuff on Lonzo Ball, a weird situation with David van der Poel. We'll talk about that. Lots of stuff to break down, joining me is Keith Smith at ki Smith and BA on Trevor lane. You can find me at Trevor underscore lane. Keith, I guess we should start with Ben Simmons. Daryl morey gave us just a little bit of information, didn't he? Yeah, he did. He gave a interview not completely uncommon for I believe his title is now president of basketball operations, but a decision maker to go and give an interview to the media and in any talk a whole lot of things. One of the things I was funny is something we were talking about before we get started where he's like, this one place year reported this and it was called ball sack sports and he's like, and everybody ran with it. That part's just as funny and mean we won't get into that whole nonsense of this time of year, a little bit later. But he big takeaways were he is he's basically talked to every team in the league about Ben Simmons. He said that there is a deal that could or had any phrase that there are probably deals with the kings that work, but it would probably need to be involved a third team versus a straight deal. What was interesting is you rarely ever hear anything like that. Where it's like, oh yeah, there's a deal out there with that team that probably works. That is so uncommon. But yeah, I mean that's what he said. And then he also kind of finished it off with, but don't expect anything until right around the deadline, which is just more he's been down this path. Several times and knows generally it's when you get into deadline week, which is still a couple weeks away. And also that if this has to it'll go into next year or next summer and the off season and go from there..

2021 NBA Free Agency: Bulls Strike Fast With Deals for Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso

"Thing long term on the bulls. I'm thinking that they might have one free agency yesterday. Because i love the lonzo signing. I love the caruso signing for them. Billy donovan is building a culture. They're the guys that can play with. Zach levine and don't forget they. They added nick which nicola which last last season the deadline the bulls are trying to make the playoffs and much like we've talked about that. The league is better when the knicks are pretty good or good. I still think the same thing from the bull standpoint as well chicago matters so and by the way we've got a couple of things we've got a cup. I mean man. There's a lot of breaking news. Just happening right now. So here's the deal. Woge breaks the story steph. Curry agrees four year. Deal two hundred fifty million dollar contract extension with the warriors so steph curry will remain a warrior for the rest of his career which is fantastic news.

His agent, Greg Lawrence. Wasserman tells ESPN so Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso are back together again on the same team. They played together for the Lakers. The quick synopsis on Alex Caruso is he is one of the best. Guards defensively in the entire league. So the Bulls are getting a guy who can mix in with Kobe White, Zach Lavine Lonzo Ball some length with Lonzo and Zach Lavine, but also, Caruso is known as a very good defensive player. We'll see how he fits in.

"It has to fit as to fit and you pay them too much money. And it's like the kisa death for these guys. Would you pay them too much money. And they can't give you what you think they should be doing. When in fact you plop them into a situation like market and maybe go to gamble where they can't succeed in the way you want them to because they're not surrounded by the right pieces because they're not capable on their own of being the player you want them to be. I did a violent one eighty on him. During the last season i thought he was such a bum in charlotte. I really dead. And we just going going to the playoff games and watching all the little stuff he did in person in you know this but in person there's so many different reasons why it's so much better to watch basketball person but it's stuff like you've just watching the little stuff tune did whereas like man i didn't he's just really smart like he's a smart guy in those games and i think the warriors can aid their goal. I would assume as to. Just try to not reliant commingle and moody and wiseman if they don't have to 'em in but also keep them available as soon as there's a real trade piece to go after Other things lak- gave a whole a lot of great quotes there. These are guys can't believe moody fell to fourteen. We almost took him at seven. He did the whole thing so they planted the seat of no. No we love these guys. They will trade them. The moment an awesome stars on the table they will. I thought i already saw some traders for moody already. I think i've already seen some of the traits. Po possible trades for some of those guys but but but to make sense for them and it sounds like that's going to happen and then the lakers will be a lot of people who have some sort of relationship with the broad. The nets if cam thomas who shaky i think the reason he fell was people worried about him as his personality but he goes to a nets team where they're just going to be like go score. Just stay out of our way and score. We're good at and his personality. It can't possibly be as big as the other dudes that are already there. He'll get lost in the sauce there. That's what i'm saying. You think he gets ten million. That's that's what i'm asking you get ten million. Oh that's what i'm asking how. I don't think. I think that ten million a year guys are going to be less than we thought i think i think homes could get ten because he was really impactful. Everybody likes homes. Yeah yeah and then kimber shoe. I don't wanna step on zack's territory kazak attachment. Yeah that's his. Yeah i feel like somebody's gonna overpay thais thai so get seven million a year. They'll have they'll get to have all types experience watch gac down ten times a game And why rather britsh get three thousand first quarter. Yeah birches purchase good. that's a good one. that's a sneaky. good one but see the sneaky. Good ones them become christian would and they get paid a ton of money right right. That's what happens. That like the plus minus darlene said all the analytics guys identify and then they get overpaid and we know who's going to be the most find example. That is caruso. There's like amazing. Advanced tricks on offense like where he's basically like the best offensive guard in the league. According to this but we know the notchers. I've been told by everybody all those analytics guys. Don't pay any attention to defensive. Metrics defense defense is still impossible to measure. I've been told that by. I've always felt you. Can't i think that's where your eye test really comes in you. I was thinking about today to and not that. He's going to be a big because he's been hurt his whole career. But you know remember. When justice winslow like the celtics wanting to give away everything. They had for chesler picks. Yeah and he's he's cut loose. How many games did is he played the last three years. But you know. I like most of this stuff emphasis done. That was the one that i think was really bad because they really did miami favor and a bunch of different ways with that trade member game right right. Hook dan waiters back which would dollars out there for whoever whoever wants them. I think we know where that's heading. Yeah you'd think they take him back. Yeah probably i think if the warriors can come out of this and that you talked about the bottom feeders before and we know the nets are gonna grab a couple of the nets got a couple of draft picks that i think could actually pay for them. They actually had a good day because philly didn't trade. Ben simmons either so that was like a good day for the nets but if golden state golden state comes out of this with batumi dolla. And these two rookies they picked and they have klay coming back and the and pool and they get a little out of pasco all of a sudden. That's like an eleven man team where everybody can play based and if deco mandaeans good next year or yeah. We have to see how about claim. I know petunias such an interesting guy. Right because he was. He's played at charlotte wherever he's overpaid. They're asking them to do too much. And then he was in the perfect role at the clippers. just perfect. that's exactly. It's i always said this about ninety. Ninety percent of all nba players just need to be in the right situation. Ten percent of the superstars can play in any situation anytime anywhere anyplace but petunias one of those guys..

"Just feel like they could put that deal two months from now. It's an expiring you know. Or they could flip it in february. Whatever gives them flexibility that they really just didn't have unless they kept thompson. They don't wanna keep them. They couldn't keep them so they don't need him. They don't need them because they've got horford now. And you and you're going to resign. Robert williams and you don't need them while the i'll tell you one thing they did was. They upset my father. Why he he had done a lot of moses brown research after the trail decided he really liked him and his feelings were hurt. That was a weird. That was a weird transaction to. I don't know it may be. It actually made me think that they have lonzo up their sleeve because they wanted to dump moses brown in that deal for no reason i thought dallas conceivably you could have gotten like a pick swap to take the rich. They did such a favor to dallas. No there allegedly other teams that were also wanna take him but dallas to clear that kind of salary. Cap room was amazing them and we didn't really talk about dallas yet and we should just quickly. But you know the knicks. I just feel like if anything. They're probably better off taking a step backwards. They're not going to compete. These is going to be better this year. They have no chance. They you know that. Randall on a contract ear. They're not going to get a rose type thing like they did again. The draft didn't really work out. They were kind of three picks away from being able to get anybody right. It might be better off. Just kind of laying low like they did last year and just trying to cherry pick a couple of good players but dallas needs a good player. They need to come out of this. Well harry they and we all know who they want. They want lowry to. They won't lowery and is going there. Well i don't know is he. How do we know how do we know they have a lot. They could see the difference between them and philly were these other teams. They can pay them outright. They have the money to pay him. Outright and cuban will overpay. You know he well. I think they're big problem. Is what do you do with porzingis to me. That's their bigger problem. I mean that guy. Talk about a shell of himself you know. It was the injuries of affected him. Offense but defensively. He was just. I mean he was a member. What a force he was when he first came into on the defensive end of the floor he was bad this year. Lower half of his body. Just didn't look like it was moving in remotely this now go back and watch them on the knicks. Yeah yeah lying around there. yeah. I feel bad for him. You know so. Someone told me that lori mark and i wants to go there and and team up with porzingis and you know i listen as a as somebody who owns a condo on the water on markkanen island. I've been waiting for him to find the right team. I think his bowls experience when the worst that ever could have possibly gone like what were what were the point guards who is playing with. That made him better. What was the awesome coach experience. He had what offense was good for him where it was always like they were kinda cra- trying to cram them into these different things to me. He had moments. I think it was two years ago. And i remember zach and our texting. Uganda kazak really likes them too. Yeah yeah where he would like get rebounds and he would just go the whole length of the court and not even just go for layoffs but let go la and then kick out like even go ninety feet kick out to somebody who the three and there's moments where he looked a little nowitzki near nowitzki. Ish i'm not. Sandy looked like nowitzki. But it was. It was kind of like like you kind of just did say that though there was some new whiskey ish this but i think that would be an amazing if they could pull off bring hardaway back get marketing and then figure out some sort of point guard like whether it's patty meals are patty mills would be great for them. He would be he would be. He'd be a for a lot of teams actually patty mills. I've always wanted to see him on one more really good team. 'cause they have we seen it. We've seen him producing the playoffs. We've seen him produce in international basketball. That shows up matters. If i'm a mavericks fan. Here's by fear this would this. Would i wouldn't be able to sleep for the next three nights thinking of this. Is you basically strike out. And the mavs talk themselves into kemba walker. Basically taking him off. Okay see he uses. That will take a flyer on them this year. And if it doesn't work out his an expiring next year and that's my big move. Because i know now cite them a couple years ago there the runner up for him member for the when the celtics gone right right. Forgotten about that and it's like now has the we'll get and i that would show me to my core because i don't think he's going to be the same. I don't think his knees coming back to straight years of the same knee issues. Usually that means it's not coming back. I hope you're wrong because he's also just you would you. Would you trade. For now. I would not i would not But porzingus to me. When i talk up when you look at dallas to me. He's like the flashing red light. What do you do with them. Where where is he. Kenny get better. You know is it a is it a just a rehab thing or is this who he is going forward. You know looking back. That's not so great. He clearly needs a new team to me. He's the he's the guy. The spurs the spurs mavs will never trade with each other. But that's like a spurs flyer out. I think spurs need to roll the dice with somebody like that scar. "Solution. Not part of your problem. We've talked ad nauseam. I feel about miles. Turner and so bonus in that fit or not fit depending on how you view it you know they. Miles turner could have been had before. We know that because they were in discussions about that so i would think of the two. He's the more likely but maybe brogden has the better market. I don't know broaden fits to me. Rick carlisle is back. Is malcolm brogden made for rick carlisle or what i know i if i were them i wouldn't do anything i would I wouldn't either i. I would just wait. Because they're coaching situation. Was such a disaster. Last year was bringing carlisle. Let him see what he had and then decide december january february. Who's going to be on the team in april. Yeah yeah yeah. There's always those. And you know i would wonder too with the sixers. They don't have to trade. Ben simmons right now. There's no reason have to trade him now. I mean. I think they're going to trade him but i don't think you have to train them out of because oh my gosh you know free agency we we gotta move him now. I don't think darryl feels that way at all. I've thought about this. I actually kind of feel like they have to trade in the summer kate. Here's this city plays in and the general mood of sixers fans with ben simmons. And if it's like hey we're gonna just we'll start the season. I game where he goes to for ten from the free. Throw line or something at home the by the time the fourth one misses the whole. Crowd's gonna be billingham. I think they want him to go. I don't think he wants to stay. And i just wonder like you could really his trade barriers already so much different than it was when he was the centerpiece of a james harden trade it. It was like him maxi to first randers seemed like pretty fair for james harden. Now i don't know what you would have to throw in for james harden. They'd be way more than that. And what happens if it gets worse than this. Then you're looking at like cj mccollum straight up. What if it gets better. It gets better than what if jim right now. Shooting free does. What if in the first game and i'm not saying this is going to happen. I do think you're right. I don't think he'll be on their opening day roster but let's just play. Well i'll just for argument's sake. What if it comes out in game one of the twenty one twenty two season and takes eight threes in the first game. It makes three of them. I'm just i think he's capable of it. I'm telling you. I've always maintained that. Ben simmons is problem is he wants to shoot fifty percent for the three point line and if he can't do that he's not interested and i've said to him when i did that interview with them. Why don't you shoot thirty four percents to start at you know. Move your way up. Or whatever i i know he can do it. I know he can. I believe he can do it. What's the lowest you take farm the lowest the floor. I would never make that deal. Yeah i would not and picks but portland has avenue picks. Yeah i can't. I would not do that. I would not. I still believe in ben simmons. I've enjoyed darrow asking for way too much from every team though in the whole process. And we think dunkin robinson's on miami. Unless someone throws crazy like you know what. If i don't know all these teams lose out on lowery and like the knicks. The knicks have to do something right. They have a lot of money. So let's who the knicks go after they go after do they say. Let's let's take a break and then talk about this all right. You asked about the knicks. Just gonna cross cross marquee people off until we get to the guy we think there you know after koei c. p. three larry i'm cross them off gone lonzo keep on collins. No duncan robinson. No rose and i don't think so. Why wait why not. I think there are more likely to go..

"But i think that's that kind sign of person about you'd also have to have a very very close. Pr guy at his side because masai very honest and in doing so sometimes as a commissioner of the nba would say things that probably wouldn't be in his best interest they'd be true and they don't honest but not in the best interest of the league you know you have to have a little bit of the the sh sh savoir-faire to stay away from some of the things All right so you think. Crm you'd lean toward him staying that leaving. Well that's my own personal preference. I don't know. I just wouldn't give up on them. I just wouldn't. What happens with john. Collins i think he goes back to atlanta. I think i think people are actually backing off from john collins because they feel like atlanta's going to take care of it so i think he goes back there. I think he genuinely wants to make it work there. I think the so-called friction between he and trae young has been way overblown. I talked. I've talked to both of them about it. And they both say we just both wanna win hard truths hard talk. I'm good with it. I could take it. I like it. I think he's i think he's going to stay right where he is that collins. By the way. I'm just throwing zach collins. I know he's had his third ankle surgery and all that but didn't you think when zack collins i got in the league he was going to be. I thought he was going to be a really really good player. Like take a flyer. On zach collins. I know his injury prone obviously three surgeries. That's bad that's two surgeries too. Many but would you take a flyer on him. Yeah i think the irony of this free agent classes. There's twenty eight. I'd take a flyer on that guy guys so this is one of them even really seen him play at all in the last couple years. But he's definitely a rotation guy good team if he's a classic if he's healthy guy The on the collins thing. This is where. I think the league really. I just don't understand certain things about this league. About how teams run. I would go in on collins in a way if i was another team with a restricted offer designs specifically to f over the quite with poison pills. And all i if. I'm in eastern conference team in already. Know they're there. 'cause there's rumors that they were shopping reddish a little bit china. Because they're so worried about all these contracts kinda hitting the same time i would study that roster and be like all right. Let's make a run a john collins taken they'll have to they'll probably have to You know we won't get him. It'll cost a seventy two hours before. Atlanta like ends up matching it. But let's design this in a way this a competitive league if it's an eastern conference team. Let's do this in a way that we kinda screw over the hawks. Let's competitively hurt them. Tears don't really do this in the nba. Which i always think is strange. It's very collaborative. Yeah they used to do it but they you're right. It's sort of a gentlemen's agreement now but remember when darryl did it to What was it omar. And oh jeremy lady did those poison pill things at dolan so matt. That was ugly. Daryl care man. There is a carrot up all right so we think collins goes back. I agree indiana brogden. Gone turner gone both of them. Gone both stay. What would you bet be. Well you know and again. This is not me reporting this but i did see reports of a brogden for cy fought ball thing that was i saw that somewhere malcolm bog brogden for for lonzo ball in it. And i'm thinking. Why would that make. I like malcolm brogdon a lot..

"Because he i'm billy donovan. Had their thing going at okay see some sense so that makes them good. He better he better hope for it because the shooter market once. He's point guard roulette. What's the wheel stops. There's going to be these guys who are like wait. A second major told me. I was gonna make twenty million a year. Why do i have to sign for seven. What have i guess what. There's two teams left washington in chicago. And there's five point guards available. Who i'll think there were twenty million dollars so three of you're losing. That's how this is playing out spencer. Dinwiddie is another one I know he's had the acl. I know that. But i think he would if i were gm. I'd be intrigued with him. I just i spencer. Dinwiddie is one of those guys that bet on himself. And then and i. I just liked the way carries and i would argue. He lost because he. He hurt his knee in his contract here. Yeah but i. I mean i mean in terms of getting himself by the g. league get a valuable person in the league. That's what i'm talking about. Yeah so i'd i'd be. i'd be interested in spencer. dinwiddie the ringers Big was that's his favorite free agent and he was like wait. Got yeah go back and look at the work in brooklyn. That guy is a really good point guard when yes great leader and you know what else. He's a leader. I remember being there. The euro's doing that piece on kyrie and two years ago now and just watching him in practice and watching him interact with teammates. Guys believed in him vert following around like a puppy. And you know it's not expensive. He's this you know ten year vet. He's just i think players respond to them Well speaking of Expensive point guards so it seems like connolly's going back to utah and they did this favor straight so that have money to pay online. Rumor is like twenty five million twenty and twenty five somewhere there to me that stupid and i like my calmly but he was in the two thousand seven draft. It's been a long time. He's had injury stuff the last couple years as he has And it's a market that right now. I'm looking at it. Lowry lonzo Mike conley reggie jackson Spencer dinwiddie dennis shooter. Patty mills gorn dragoj outs caruso like derek payne. Derrick rose cameron payne. There's eleven point guards available and it's like why do i have to spend twenty five million dollars on mike conley. I don't think that's smart. Well but just remember what. You're talking about what you said before about charlotte. It's utah if someone wants to come back at someone's been successful in your system. And he wants to come back and he has like glitz. And i don't know this fact but i think that he donovan. Mitchell have respect for one another and believe in one another. And if donovan mitchell says you hey hope you're bringing mike conley back i i'd bring him back. You're not going to get a a major free agent destination if you're the utah jazz..

"Everyone hates van. Gundy things are falling apart and the and the whole team and so those are his four. Mba years there was an enormous here yet. So i think he's worth the risk fi due to and i will say that. I think the lakers did a horrible disservices to him and included including irvin magic johnson by the way just the way they decide that kid before and so much of it i think had to do with his father and the whole reputation of the family and has been from by all accounts she asked. I always ask players about him. And they're like he's quiet. he's funny. He fits in everywhere. He never says anything. He's you know he's not at all bombastic. There's just nothing about him that way and just think of the microscope e was under. Forget his brother who we all knew talented. It was the better of the two and all of that. He's the one that bore the brunt of all the nonsense that was that his family was enveloped in and he'll look pretty well. He really agree what you think. So the orleans is looking at a sign and trade for him if people go well those signing trade michiko. It's like why. So colby way back why i would rather i'd rather marcus smart right. Or how about this. Can i throw this at you. Gary hold onto your forehead. Admit explode god okay. What about what about charlotte. What about terry rozier. Sign and trade. Wouldn't terry rozier be good in the pelicans. Isn't that a tree that make sense and we put the ball brothers together lonzo lamelo. Why not. Why not googling. But even talk about it but i feel like if they turn lonzo. Rozier if you're gonna lose lonzo anyway very like the kind of the perfect guy to be on the pelicans right. He thinks he's a little better than he is but he is totally need. The ball can is good spot up shooter but once the ball find somebody else is going to need. The ball is a at the guard position. But if i'm the pelicans. And i'm looking at terry rozier. Do i want to bring him in. When i need to get make sure that zion gets what he needs and brandon. Ingram gets what he needs not sure. That's the point guard. I want so you marcus. Then if you're new orleans. Yeah i think if you're in new orleans that's what i would do but i i mean if the if the bull sign lonzo ball to an offer sheet you don't have to sign and trade you can just match match it. Do whatever you want with it. Yeah trade act to another team right. yeah i think. that's the more likely scenario. The bulls have way less leverage with this than i think people realized general. I don't think people realize our understand restricted free agency and signed peace. Because it's ultimately it comes down to do the pelicans would. They want kobe way back. Yeah it's like great. That's another really young player. Who doesn't index. I unhappy and who hasn't been able to stay in the floor. We're not sure. If i like them but i think ultimately may be an overqualified. Third guard could be isn't that isn't that everybody in the bulls. We don't know who they are like. I feel like that's everybody on the bulls roster like laura marketed kobe. All those guys. I think what the bulls do. 'cause i don't think they're gonna get lonzo. Ball's i think that's where schreuder lands..

"All right you mentioned lonzo and the celtics. So on friday The celtics do a couple of weird moves. They they'd so weird. They somehow weird but i actually kinda liked them so they get rid of tristan thompson. Who by all accounts don't need to go into it needed ago. Now promulgated needed period to period go period. So i got rid of him. They bring back. Christiaan sneak him into this exception for five million. Then they're able to grab josh richardson. Who was last year. Who really sucked awful. But maybe talented. Who co coached him in philly right two years ago so obviously put in word firm and they might feel like look. He's just not meant to be a catch and shoot guy next to luca you've got involve a more. He's in if this doesn't work out at least season expiring contract for us. So you have smart makes fifteen you've kristin who makes five you've lonzo. Who were thinking is in that. Twenty one twenty two first year thing and they go that way. Just think about that that lonzo ball's gonna get twenty one or twenty. Two million are based on twelve where he was twelve months ago. Just because you're talking about money and how much people get paid just. I wanted that to just sink it from go ahead. Continue the case for twenty three years old. I love him really shot the ball. Well last year i think he took eight threes. A game he was like thirty eight percent for three like. He's a legitimately above average. Three point shooter now. I think he's very good defender. He doesn't he's the ball which is really important for the celtics team. They need to bring in guys who don't need the ball. Because brown and tatum so ball dominant and i gotta be honest you. I really like him. I'm on the record. As like i really want the celtics to get him. This would be my dream for this summer. I just think he's twenty three years old wh- look at his nba career. What went well year. one lakers. It's just a disaster year to lakers. Lebron comes in decides ten days into the season. They i don't play these guys and checks out and yeah makes faces at the ball. "Twenty four twenty five so anyway. So i think i think a little more often than you. Now remember he's a restricted. Someone could throw a pile of money at him and they'll have to match it a lot of money. They wanna overpay for him. Teams have cap space to do that. Mean to the knicks. Wanna get really crazy and do that. I don't think so. But the knicks have fifty two million spurs have forty eight million what. It was dallas dallas around thirty three dollars. Scott thirty seven. I just for the record i really liked duncan robinson. I just think when you start paying guys like that twenty dollars a year. That's the quickest way to get in trouble. Especially if oh craig says. He's twenty seven years old. Yeah i thought. I might be a little older. 'cause yeah but when you start paying when you start paying the non all stars in the twenties and up we've seen over and over again that that's how teams getting in trouble and there's like bertone's i think as a poor man's version of robinson but last year he got five for eighty people and to me that just seemed really high. People are no no. It's good as shooting. It's important and that. Just i feel like that's forty is another one where forty thinks he's going to be in the twenties. I think the celtics are handling that corrected. They're like all right. Good luck we're now twenty two million a year. That's not happening. I bet the knicks. Will i bet the knicks. Will i think they will. If you're the knicks you have to see if you're the knicks right you got to you have to. You're in a different position than the celtics. Although i don't know that's a pretty bad look for boston. If near walks it's not a great look. It's one of the things with age. So you had the teams like last year was charlotte right and you. We talked about this. Last summer unite was too pricey. He he had not stayed healthy enough for the past few years to warrant giving him thirty money. But if you're charlotte you have to house. Are you going to get somebody. And i think with robinson. Somebody's going to spend the money just because it's like hey. This guy has a chance to be a level below at all star but at forty five percent three point shooter and maybe higher good. Yeah we put a couple of guys around him. This is worth the money to us. I just think for miami when you already paying bam. You're already paying butler Year after year your in the luxury tax are near it or around it. It's really tough to bend also have to look for a third star after you. Pay duncan robinson. Especially when it's been a bad year for the cruise lines you know decade right. Mickey harrison's pockets aren't quite so deep anymore it miami's interesting team again. The other guy look at his bam bam statistically was better in every sense this season danny was the previous season and yet he didn't make all mba. And you know he. He wasn't included in that elite group. But he's another guy that i just don't think we've seen the best of him yet. And that's what. I always look at what i'm looking at roster who was like all right but who can get better. So let's take marcus smart all right just for because we were boston guys with boy but marcus. Smart is what he is. He gets a little better year with his shooting but he is what he is. I don't think that's true about bam out of bio at all. Yeah it's weird bam stats slightly better. Last year they were eye test wise. I like calorie played two years ago. More for some real. But that's because he was surprising and he was. You know energetic. I mean we we get we get spoiled what we see from these guys and we want more we want. We want the incrementally better. Because that's what the great players do all the great players get. They don't actually they don't get incrementally better. They get significantly better every year. And that's why that's why they are all the all. Mba guys do you worry about. Larry i brought this up in previous episodes so apologies lewis turns but do you worry about him. Krista set the bar so high for these mid thirties guys but he also completely changed his life plant..

"Today's champions league final. We saw chelsea beat manchester city by one goal to nail says in the first half proving to be the difference between. That's a side as chelsea under thomas to co. Go on and win. The second champions league practices such open. Start this game. It was great sometimes. These finals the teams cancelling each other out. This quite we all to say yeah. I don't think any that even took in these players himself would have understood the city. We're going to have the bulk of the possession. Not that wasn't gonna worry jokes in look at chelsea in the positive side to start and sort of meander to losing coach. But you've got to take off to this club a abramovich and has people do not mess around. They made unpopular decision with some and sacking. "Jump right in so you found out that you were living with hiv about twenty seven years ago and at that time how much did you know about. Or how familiar were you with hiv. My knowledge of hiv was gay guys. I remember watching the evening news talking about it even before. They had a name for it and they were calling in grid and gay plague and but it only impacted gay people right so you wind. Gay you okay. I'm good or even if if you were a lesbian. They weren't talking about hiv and lesbians. They were talking about hiv engaged. Men so you still feel like you good. No one was talking about it with women only knew what i saw on the evening news. I remember once watching the guys go up to capitol hill and they on stretchers wheelchairs. And i'll walk. I was so scared. And they had a sign and the sign says silence was dead and stay with me although she is. Do you mind telling the story of when you were told about your diagnosis. Because i think it's an amazing example of what not to do. Oh my goodness dad. Day is seared in my mind. I think if i got alzheimer's i remember that day. I i got the phone call it. "To the pelicans new orleans lonzo ball love him or leave him leave him. I think a lot of return for lonzo ball. And i i gotta tell you. I'm really impressed with all the talk. We've been having about lamelo ball lonzo. Ball's men baldwin him shooting the ball well from the three point line. He's not really playing. His position stands got him sort of three indeed settings threes. Chris i on your. I can pick and roll like okay. Zion's carmelo no lonzo ball is the karl malone and john stockton karl malone what the hell down world but it works. It works the upside down any can defend. Yeah leave him. Yeah that's what i think. He fits with the knicks. Because we talked about you talk about random about how well you know how hard air coats and commitment to the defense side of all you have to get a certain type of store star in new york. He's a guy that won't be afraid of coming in and do a little hard working in committing to both sides of the ball quickly which you know. Obviously well his dad prophesized already. Who's just now starting to get that press. Just now got it in the bubble. But you're kidding yourself if you think that it was stats and just wins. That gave jamal. Murray all that. All that prowess right. It was the social justice stuff. He was wearing the shoes there were times. They didn't even go to the media and he put shoes up there and they did the zoom in on just the shoes and then he cried after the games. I'm not like i'm telling you what it is. Chiefs release Eric Fisher, Mitchell Schwartz

"Are very lucky. Chris canty that we have breaking news. Because otherwise i would be sitting here yelling at human. They are yelling at me to go immediately to diana. Rossini lonzo has breaking news out of kansas city. Diana what are we have. Yeah adam schefter. Just broke at the kansas city chiefs have now made to gigantic cuts. Both of their tackle. Starting left tackle eric fisher and right tackle jeff schwartz. These two are key players on this offensive line. We know that they didn't play in the super bowl. Obviously eric fisher tours achilles right before so he was unable to play in it and jeff fisher was really working hard. Excuse me jeff. Shorts was really working hard to come back and he said on instagram himself that he was going to be one hundred percent ready to go for this upcoming season. We talked last week all about this week. Being a really difficult week we called it. A massacre at least one coach told me that. And that's what it is. Look at what. The kansas city chiefs are doing off of line that we knew were struggling in the super bowl because they didn't have those two guys no longer on the team. Now

Zion Williamson, Lonzo Ball, Pelicans Hold off Donovan Mitchell, Jazz for Win

"We are back on. Get up and jay. Williams made his way to take a look at the game of the night last night. A good one between the jazz. And the pelicans and this one was all about ziad. Look at him. Going right equity go back just constantly challenging rudy gobert. He gets his shot blocked more than any other player in the league. But it doesn't matter because it's going to finish at the rim. He had fifteen points in the third quarter. Zion did look at them continuing here and just taking a straw once again. He loves eternal right shoulder. That's his patented move. Twenty-six ten last night for zion who was really emerging clear in his second season. Well let's take you to where this game is decided thirty seconds ago jazz are down by one. And here's the big sequence. J. will often miss from donovan mitchell. Donovan mitchell mrs baruch. I don't know if i call that over to bat call rudy gobert. That just much taller. But since i did it take another look at it here. That's go bear. He does get called for over the bag. Zion would make too so the pelicans of a three point lead in. Here's the final shot. Not a great look that the utah jazz get off. Zion gets the rebound josh. Hart gets uncontested dunk. And that is all she wrote. The pelicans get the win. One twenty nine one twenty four and again as i on finishing with twenty six points. Ten boards five assists. Joining anthony davis as the only players in new orleans history with game with those numbers before turning twenty one years old. They will play again tomorrow night

Quantum technology and implications for security in todays computer infrastructure

"Welcome to the cybersecurity weekly podcast. I'm jay lewis podcasting from singapore today joining us today. We have a very special guests from switzerland who is based in zurich. And he's a doctor khumalo. Got the donnie. Who is the security researcher. We've could ask security so thank you very much for joining us today jane. I'm very happy to be here with you today. To be honest to it's quite difficult. Also for ricardian super announced. So don't worry about that. So so the first question. I think many of our listeners will be quite keen to know is is quantum computing a high. Because when you read the news and media nowadays we see a lot of investments that have been announced by governments for example the us national science foundation and the department of energy announced. I think with more than one billion over. The next five years in quantum information systems and russia and germany also not far behind announced close to seven to eight hundred million investment china as well spending time billion on the effort. In the private sector's google and ibm are also spending in excess of one hundred million and even bangs like j. p. Morgan is also looking at developing quantum lonzo banking but on data hen. Also some in saying that quantum states are not reliable stable or quite understood well enough to replace the traditional classical computers and some believe that they will never be able to do so. So my question to you is is quantum computing a hype well All these people you mentioned are very smart so if they spend all this money it must be true right now. Kidding apart we have seen tremendous tremendous advancements in this technology in the in the latest ears. So just put it into perspective. So people started discussing about quantum computing. Already more than fifty years ago but it became interesting. I would say nineteen ninety-four with the discovery your applications for cyber security now. At the beginning people were thinking. Okay this is something very interesting from a theoretical point of view. It will never be real. You know it's it's kind of Would be something like Science fiction like however then after that we have seen continues continues progress on the on the research and development and we especially in the last few years we have weakness a situation from you know we can be really controlled. One beat of quantum information to prototypes. That are actually working. So they are still prototype so they are still not powerful enough to tackle Real world problems. But i wouldn't call it to hype this point so from my personal point of view. The trend is quite clear. So you mentioned the difficulties. In controlling information and the related technology so from from a theoretical perspective the technologies well-understood now. There is engineering challenges into building. Something that is working but this is the case we any brand new technology. I mean justice I transistors. They were big bulky. They were barring city You remember the famous quotes like sixty four. Kilobytes of memory should be enough for an anyone. That's right so like every new technology. There is challenges. So what i see is that from a technological point of view the the tuition is progressing much more rapidly than many expected to ten years ago. Now the question. Everybody's asking his okay. But when are we going to have computers. That are not prototypes anymore. That are something that can solve real world problems My impression is that we are very close to the point but there is a difference in what you consider useful because a lot of people say like okay when we'll quantum computers break cryptography. Well i i think that's not a good measure of progress for quantum computer because quantum computers can do much more than that.

What's going on with the New Orleans Pelicans?

What's going on with the New Orleans Pelicans?

"This year's deputy f team the new orleans pelicans. I don't know what baker this team you can catch them on any given night and it's a completely different experience than the last night. I don't know if the players make sense together. Actually i'm pretty sure they don't. I don't really know what the overall philosophy is. I don't know if they're trying to be a playoff team if they're trying to be rebuilding. I'm just constantly confused and there are some optimism because they want a couple of games around people here they go here. Zion and then they get killed last night by the bulls and have one hundred thousand breakdowns. And i guess my first question to you is the pelicans what the fuck you. How many exclamation points can we tack onto that. Wt fd think. But i was hoping you could answer this question. Because i think you're spot on in that it's so much depends your view of this team on when you catch them even just like what stage in the season. You caught them because for a minute. It looked like they were going to live up to their personnel and be a tough minded offensive team. Scrounging out offensive rebounds to get points and just kinda struggling on that in because they're spacing issues the script has completely flipped. And now this is all of a sudden very competent offense. I think park has really driven by brandon. Ingram is i ion williamson. They're making that part of it work but the defense. Jesus christ i mean it is. There is inconsistent defensively as really any team out there. Yeah i would say other than brooklyn. It's the team that's most likely to give up one hundred forty on any given night to any team. That knows what they're doing. I so if you actually look at their stats and you haven't been watching that much and you look at the stats and you look at williamson in ingram and all right. Those guys are having good years pretty efficient. And then you look at lonzo and you look at bledsoe. Lonzo shoot thirty seven percent from three so she and forty percent so going into the season like well. Their guards can't shoot. They're not going to be able to have enough space. Well their guards are actually shooting. Okay but then. When i watch everybody together. I don't have a five-man line-up that i liked like yesterday. They're playing Kyra lewis with He he got a little more run and he's really interesting. Rookies really fast. He's little darren foxy and gave them an energy that i was like. Well maybe this. Maybe i would like this version of the pelicans more. If fast you know now unleash sign a little bed. Go up and down a little bit more. But i still don't know who the other two teammates would be with cairo. Lewis design and branding. And i guess the fundamental question for me is do zion and brandon. Ingram makes sense together on a team. That's actually trying to win the title. I think they make sense on offense but the question was i on really broadly. As who are you going to put the five that's gonna make up for all. He doesn't do defensively right now. That's always been my issue with the idea of playing small and we are putting him at the five his rotations is. Aren't there really the pelicans as a team. If i were an opposing coach. I would say this is a team. We can beat him rotation every they are. Pass away from defensive breakdown every time out on the floor and keep moving the ball. You keep doing what you're supposed to do they will they will mess up in a whether it's undersized guy in the corner doesn't quite rotate over all the way. Jj radic or josh. Hart they try hard. They do what they can. But they're not equipped to be helped rotation defenders. If a guy like zion isn't going to be one so i mean i'm i'm kinda bullish on the anger rooms ion depot in general but i am really struggling to see how you put together those lineups. I can see how they kind of got into this conundrum where they clearly wanted to have some veterans early. Some veterans fell into their lap in terms of what was available and trying to get some pics and make their other moves but long term. It's a weird team to build with. And then you get lonzo into this conversation to and what they want to do with him. It's it's kind of messy.

"lonzo" Discussed on KTKR 760AM

"For Only be for a few minutes and sure enough, that's what's going on. Hey, was the story of the night in the NBA 25 points in 12 minutes in the first half of the Knicks. What did I tell you an hour ago? The Knicks are gonna wind up losing this game by 20 anyway, and that's where they are. They had a huge lead at halftime. They were they were up by 13 at halftime. They're now down by 10 as they start the fourth quarter as the jazz begin within 11 0 run and they're doing it without Donovan Mitchell, who has six points on two out of 13 shooting. This is where when you talk when you look at players who were available and trade now you're starting to see people out there. Lonzo Ball was thrown out there today is potentially least taking. No, no, no, Not that the Knicks. I don't want Lonzo ball, but you're starting to see teams now get active and say, Hey, here's some guys, we need to move, right? We're ready to move that, but you know they want to move on. From Lonzo Ball. JJ Reddick is a guy that's out there we saw last night. Cleveland could want to move on from Kevin Love and and potentially Andre Drummond. The minute a score becomes available a score first player, the Knicks have to go out and get them because that's the only thing they're missing. They're losing this game because they have nobody with a score first mentality that can put the ball in the bucket. They have the worst offense in the league for a reason. You know, it is good. A player is r. J. Barrett Looks like he's becoming is good players Julius Randle's become, They have nothing. They have no offensive player who can come and you can count on for 20 points tonight, and you can find those guys pretty easy. If the Knicks got that I'm telling you that would change their fortunes in a second. Maybe a team. That's something. Wow, look out because someone to bail you out. They can get to the rack and get you a couple hoops. When things get a little weird Andre things get a little rocky. When you're giving away a lead or you want to stay in the game where you're playing really good defense. That's the biggest thing. If the Knicks had that they would they would be at the least they be a 500 team all the way through the season. They be a playoff team without a doubt, probably finish about 500. But that's where now is where you got to be smart. If you can't get free agents to come to you now is when you got to be smart to say, What are we going to get a player like this? Don't wait till free agency shows up When you find out nobody wants to get there. You're starting to see the names out there. Now. This is when those teams that can't get players like Andre Drummond. Whoever can make a trade go. You know what? Yeah, let's go get this guy. This is where you got to be the smart GM because this is where you're gonna make your team better. Aggressiveness have £2 look the remember the movie The Cooler with sad. William H. Macy O. We have Bello and Alec Baldwin in a casino Halftime was the cooler for Austin Rivers hasn't scored since. It's only taken three shots as we get midway through the fourth quarter. In the second half, I thought of something from Jack Kerouac. Burn, Burn Burn, let fabulous yellow Roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars in the middle. You see the blue satellite pop and everybody goes. Oh, that's kind of what happened here with Austin Rivers. You were all excited, thinking, frenetic pace and he's going to go nuts and all you got was a little pop and you went Well, that's it, That's all. Oh, man, That's that's a final s o. That's where we are right now. Last NBA game of the night, seven minutes to go in the fourth quarter jazz lead the Knicks 94 80 for it, Of course, today, a very difficult day in the N B. A as it is the one year anniversary of the death of Kobe Bryant hey and his daughter killed in a plane crash and also claimed the lives of seven others. And coming up in about 15 minutes. We're going to start remember the life of Kobe. We'll talk with one of our big Lakers insiders and and, you know, just find out some more about him. And you've been hearing stories all day and seeing stories all day about Kobe Bryant and what he meant to the to the game of basketball is things you find out about him that we didn't know until after he was killed in the helicopter accident. Certain things. Even I still think about the story of the What was it this of the female basketball player on Stanford? The left a note in his locker saying, Hey, Kobe. I used your locker for a game during like the Pac 10 tournament, and he called and he sent them all the Lakers gear because he loved the note that she sent form going. Hey, big fan. I used your locker. I'm excited, hopefully will help me. You know, certain things like that that you don't hear about what players do. It's it's good to hear those stories. You know, after such a tragedy, just remind yourself that boy You know, there was a lot of joy out there that that went back that we weren't aware of, because you listen, we were could we cover the games every day? And when something happens off the court that gets into what happened. What that's popular enough for us to talk about. We talk about, but certain things like that. They kind of tend to fall by the wayside. So it's always good to hear stories like that. I mean to to other things that you just recall from the big memorial service that we all watched year..

"Michael is served fortune. Five hundred companies across forty one countries. Michael take a minute and filling for the tidbits about your law. Thank you so much andrew into all of you listening to this podcast and watching our interview right now lonzo doctrine that's a piece greeting from where i'm from kuala lumpur malaysia nestled in the heart of asia. Just in between singapore and thailand. A little bit tidbit about me is that i'm very grateful. Where during one of my productivity trainings. That i deliver to leaders around the world. It happened in malaysia. On one fine day. Web president barack obama actually visited my training. The president came for half an hour and it left me pleasantly surprised. Though i was shocked and i didn't know what to say for the next one minute. It was an awkward silence but the president gave his signal that i could carry on and then i carried the session on for the next thirty minutes and then the president came up took the stage gave his speech and we had a great time to connect with each other he gave a very very kind testimonial to the work that i was doing for the valla people because at the end of the day andrew really. I believe it's people like us many hardworking people out there watching this interview right now. Who's listening in. We are the ones that make the world goes round. We are the ones that put food on the table and we are the ones that really the movers and shakers many of us unsung heroes again. Thank you again andrew. And that's one of the reasons why i wanted. I was so excited to agree to be given this opportunity even to appear on your show again. Thank you andrew fantastic. You know. it's an interesting thing. Michael that as a financial guy. A lotta times. I spent my and i've spent my years during the performance of companies. And you know what. I've come to learn over. The years is that financial success has to do with two things number one the leader of the company if it's a bad leader in a bad direction that they choose. It's very hard to have strong. Financial success true so number one is the leader and the number two thing. is that what i've learned. In my opinion you don't need superstars. You need good qualified people but what you need is coordination amongst the management team. That's if you have a good leader and coordination amongst the land management team. That is the secret sauce. And so for all those people listening out there. If you think you're gonna find it in a financial statement. It's not there. Because remember as i always teach in my teaching of people in management i always say and particularly to my finance students finance adds no value. And what i mean by that is that finance is a mirror it is a reflection it is a way. It is a feedback mechanism for management team to judge the impact of their decisions. So i like people to understand particularly financial people. I know a lot of financial friends. Listen to this podcast. I want financial. People always keep in mind. That finance is a supporting function. Just as much as human resources and others and if you go into business only with a focus on finance you'll never get there but if you go into business with focus on management leadership strategy in building a team. That works together. It's unstoppable spot on andrew spa and also. I think you know the other thing about i. I often say to small and medium-sized businesses. Never fear giant businesses. Yeah they are so messed up. They can't easily coordinate. The activities of their management team and of the different business units a very difficult thing to do and they've also fallen prey to the the idea of. Kpi's in the sense that everybody has a key performance indicators that they're pushing and all the sudden you have everybody working hard in their own area but few people thinking about how to coordinate that effort and that's why the coordination of the management team is what really can said a small medium sized business apart and make an impact anyways. Those are those. What's your i mean. You've you've done a lot with large as well as small and medium-sized businesses. What are some of the takeaways. Let's just say there's there's listeners here to do have small and medium-sized businesses. What are some of the things that you've learned over the years. I believe one of the things. Andrew that i've just had the fortune to work with is with fortune. Five hundred companies as you mentioned across forty one countries and i agree with you spot on and you mentioned some of these large companies. They have a lot of challenges when they're not coordinated or even if the global headquarters is shoes a directive but when it comes to a localization part if they do not work or respect local partners to work with it doesn't work and one thing i find having coach one hundred fifty. Sme's during this pandemic because it is during this time where truth be told andrew if you would ask me. Is it my first preference to work with sms. Truth be told. It's not reason being because during this pandemic when it hit malaysia we ran into a lot now immediately all out. Huge corporate clients decided to freeze training. Funds decided to freeze employees development funds. And i realized that s my business was suffering yet. I didn't wanna give up so what i felt was. Hey if the big boys or the big corporates are not able to pay me. Where else can i bring my company. Where else can pivot. And where else can i add tremendous value. Because i'm a believer if you wanna get paid in. Whatever you're doing do not ask us of what people could give you but instead ask what you can give people so i started asking myself. What value can i give. And that was. When i realized that a lot of sme's struggling they were shutting down. And then i realized that. I coach i train. I guide a lot of bit. Corporates on sales marketing on how to happen entrepreneurial jal thinking and i thought i'm just going to bring all this formula that i've learned from all these big companies and i'm going to localize it personalized to sme's and that was how we help them generate five to six figures revenue during the time when everyone was closing shop independent lockdown that hit malaysia. And then people heard about us across the region and that was how we got invited across south east asia and part of the united states to do trainings consulting and even some mentoring virtually. But if you were to ask me what i really respect from. Sme's that were willing to at least fight. During this pandemic is their willingness that openness to be jal and to be nimble and to assure a-team that things are going to be uncertain. They're going to be uncertain if physician change of a drop of a hat. They must have be emotional audacity the strength to cope with it and to just have that faith that better things will come

Ball brothers Lonzo, LaMelo set to square off in NBA matchup

"We're talking about lonzo in the last segment. A little bit and brandon ingram coups mud cetera. But the whole point was that lamelo alonzo are playing. And you don't have a lot of brothers playing against each other. We know the wilkins brothers Played against each other. Obviously the soul brothers have played against each other so this is just another installation of that particular kind of cool fund rivalry that the nba tends to have but we you know we talked a lot about lonzo. What do you think of the mellows. Ceiling is wow. That's a great question Ever since i first saw him like what was it like three years ago now watching plane. Aau it was obvious he was really talented offensive player. So i would say. His silly is attached to his defense. Okay you know. The more he improved bronco on defense to hire his silly goes because even though i think he's a really talented offensive. Play at the reality is. There's not a whole lot of dudes who play his position in the back court. That can't get you them buckets. Right what else you got. And we're waiting to see him. Show us the other aspects of it tastes him from being a talented young player to someone who may be able to lead a team to a french tour championship. So at this point It's a wait and see i need to. I need to spend a liberal time playing ball getting better getting stronger. Before i can tell you where i think is ceiling is going to go because i need to see how strong and how defensive he's going to become yet. Defensively is a big problem. I think big problem right now but it's a big problem for young players especially rookies week or so. You know. it's time for all of them. So i'm not going to hold them to this. But after two seasons if dudes are still blown by him because he's too busy trying to leak out get buckets. Then we know what that is. Yeah look here's ofensive skill set. His passing is ridiculous. Like we already know that that very early on do you think. He has a higher ceiling than lonzo though no not inherently so right well of course. There's always a good defender. There's no question about really answer. Really good rebounder right. And he's equally as good as a passer. So you're asking yourself. We'll lonzo's offense developed faster than lamelo defense. Because that's gap right. There will lonzo's offense develop than I would say lonzo's offenses rounding to form much much better. These last eight months or whatever lamelo defense defense takes a while i feel like guy sometimes go years before they learn to play real. Good defense is that fair or it depends on the coach that should never have conversations with Jj radic over the years and bright before he was drafted. He and i were joking. I was like dude. I love you to be in phoenix. House wins nash. And amari and those guys were rolling. Sounds like do you just be straight buckets. Any overstaying strengthen gundy and you needed to lay defense to play. I needed to pay exactly to play defense for stand right and it was because of that. He's still in the league. I don't know if he was still being the league. If it wasn't for stan forced him to know how to play good defense and he did. He became a very capable defender Even though he's small right even though he you know he he's he's not he's strong for size but he's not like some overwhelming You know person when it comes to his strength but he's really smart. He plays the angles while he plays team defense. Because you're you're right. You're right

"I think most people would consider loco to to be a positive study again. Demonstrating the positive effects. That culture scene can have on cardiovascular outcomes in looking at the conduct of the study. What do you consider to be the strengths and potential weaknesses. What concerns does it raise and does this study established culture seen as a standard of care that should be offered to most patients with coronary artery disease or just to some patients or just a limited view. Yes i'm going to go ahead and quickly <hes>. Discussed the strengths. This was a randomized placebo. Controlled double blind trial. They had a large sample size around fifty. Five hundred patients were randomized. These patients were on solid background. Therapy as i discuss previously. And i think this answers are very important. Clinical question about further risk reduction in patients with cad. Yes so. I completely agree. I mean this is a a well done study with no real fatal flaws. But certainly. There's some things discuss here so i or a couple of things regarding the design of the trial. That really. Back to the generalize ability the findings so i the trial like taylor said was done primarily male patient population specifically in western australia and netherlands. So as unfortunately we see often cardiovascular literature women were underrepresented here in the extrapolation other ethnic groups may be challenged. But the. I don't see this at this. Point is a fatal flaw and i don't have any real biological reason to think that the results wouldn't extrapolate other groups next specifically the culture seem does that was used was point five milligrams which is different than the zero point six milligrams at least we have here in the us. So for some of this could be an issue in what's unknown at this point is if this twenty percent difference in concentration could ultimately impact you the outcomes whether the efficacy or safety however again my gut says it's it's probably k. We've extrapolated from some of the pericarditis data and used are kinda us doses with benefit. So with those said. I think the biggest issue kind of discuss regarding this trial is the priroda musician running phase so against dealer alluded to patients after they were enrolled went into a one month. Essentially tolerability running phase in which fifteen percent of patients actually dropped out during this phase before random ization patients dropped out about sixty percent or overall about nine percent of the overall enrollment phase was lost to perceived side effects for which about half were gi related. As you'd expect with culture scene for me this dropout rate largely for eighty are reasons. Make really me question. The finding of equal discontinuation rates between the trial arms in might skew what we might actually see in clinical practice so i don't think losing sight of shore educating patients about possible side effects from a statistical standpoint you can have the consideration that dropping patients pre random ization due to tolerability concerns. Kind of enriches your potential drug effect. You don't have those patients in the intention to treat arm who aren't exposed to the drug so possibly is looking drug effect versus placebo. Based on what you'd expect in practice you may potentially not see the same overwhelming benefit but the benefit was very strong. And i don't think adding those patients back in would necessarily change the overall <hes>. Interpretation trial or the application. So really from running phases very much a <hes>. A safety issue versus inefficacy issue. So alternate of. Bring that back to get back to coach. Seems place in therapy ultimate <unk>. At this point. I really think lonzo to help to continue to confirm the potential benefit of colchicine in cad management. When we look at this along with other trials whether it be the local one and then probably most importantly combine this along with the whole cod study. We see it but largely consistent benefit with culture seeing reducing cardiovascular events out for those familiar with the study may also seen that at the same time the lotto co two was presented also. A study called cops was presented and this is specific australian study that looked at culture again in an acs population now. This was a negative study. But the real caveat with that is the trial was actually powered for very large difference in events so it really was underpowered to potentially detect. What we what was suggested as possibly clinically relevant differences power. Find about a fifty percent difference in. It looked like there might have been about thirty percent difference. Which is what's consistent with other studies. So kinda really negates. The ability for that trial to kind of pooh-poohed on potential benefits here and i really think ultimately what we have to ask ourselves is is this nonfatal event risk reduction enough to make a therapy part of standard therapy in will i'd say softer endpoint is at play here. It's probably at least reasonable that it's something that we can't just throw out

A Weekend Of Chaos In Britain

"Been a weekend of chaos. in britain. the prime minister. Boris johnson gave a press conference on saturday which kick started a chain of events that is now being felt worldwide launch price former communications director at number ten downing street joins me now and monaco own editorial director tyler overlay is on the line from our studio launch. If we could begin with you can you talk us through. What's happened since saturday afternoon. Well basically christmas in britain has not quite been canceled. But it's come pretty close to it and it's enfold a pretty massive change of direction if not u-turn by the british government only on wednesday of last week. The prime minister was saying it would be inhuman draws people to cancel that christmas plans And then on saturday. He was forced to do a news conference in which he said that that is exactly what he was asking them to do. So that now people in in this country because of this new variant of covid nineteen essentially will be asked to just see a small number of people depending on where they live in the country on one day only on christmas day and then of course. We learned yesterday overnight. that's because of this New variant which is understandable because in great concern around the world. People struggled to see whether or not they have already with a. If they haven't they can they can contain the to prevent it coming. In from the united kingdom of borders closed all over the place huge queues to lorries trying to get to the at channel pulse dover in in particular where the crossing is to france and The french assigned that they won't take any huge queues at the an railway stations that get out of london and also chaos at the airports with likes being canceled to just about every destination you can of and it's hard to keep track of all the buddhas being closed at the moment. Tyler could bring you in here. What is the european view. We'll good afternoon georgia. European is one of not just canceling flights and cancelling connections. But also what we're seeing now. are now new quarantines going up so you know brits and also we also focused on maybe on a territory close to your heart or close to your heart also south africa as well because south africa is very much in the news as well it it. It is really in line with the uk as another country. is seeing outright bans on all travelers arriving whether the company from cape town or Or johannesburg into germany into switzerland and elsewhere as well so you have mean proper borders closes. It looked to for that moment. Yesterday we saw the dutch saying that. Okay airlinks We're going to be suspended but now we're looking at you. No one is allowed to arrive. in many countries the uk. And as you said almost minute by minute there are new measures going by countries across the continent here I mean lance one of your former colleagues listed campbell says it looks like the whole country is being put in brexit four by the rest of the world when incompetence meets venality and covert and brexit combined to expose the worst possible government at the worst possible. Time which you agree has this been woefully mishandled. Mile does have a way with words doesn't he. And he's absolutely right to in pretty much. Everything within the he says. Of course you have to separate this from from brexit brexit the final brexit deadline. Which is the thirty first of january. Hasn't yet hit us but as honestly suggests it's a taste of what we thought who's going to come anyway and he's also right to say that it raises a big question over the competence of the government other new variant of covid. Nineteen isn't boris johnson. Falls it's not anybody's walton in the in the british government but their reluctance to recognize. What so many other people around the world were recognizing and what their own scientific medical devices with telling them. Which was that the original plan for a five day. Christmas virtual virtually a free for all in the uk was just madness to only for that only to dawn on them on saturday. In the light of the new virus i think does call call call into question their their competence the end of the year when actually frankly dot competence has been called into question many times. I mean you think that johnson used the fact of the new variant to excuse his u-turn and was that then the perfect excuse for european borders to to fall like dominoes and shut us off physically from the block. Is there a little bit of perhaps schadenfreude going on here. We'll do spend a lot of speculation today georgina. You look at a number of different european news. Outlets are we also heading for some type of emergency extension Which could potentially happen. Which would again this would be of. Course be you know the perfect measure You have this new strain. You have borders. Of course being closed eros suspended cetera There there's no better excuse to if they wanted to kick this into the grass. I mean no one wants this But certainly you have to think here we have incredibly busy government Who have to deal with logistics issues. they have to deal with A media and public storm around this. I think we could be could be heading for certainly if you're listening to a lot of the correspondence at have brussels today. Maybe an extension talking about those logistical issues. Lonzo i mean. There are serious concerns about supply chains. How will the border closures affect availability of because then indeed traffic. Kent is already gridlocked in terms of traffic coming into the uk. Of course the roots are still open. If people wish to use those rates as a question ma about whether eu holiest would want to send their vehicles into the uk If they didn't get out again especially in the run-up to christmas and the other thing to remember is that a quite a lot quite a high percentage of trade across the english channel is unaccompanied freight. So it goes in containers dr flirt. It's picked up on the other side so there's no physical as a human being crossing with it and that can continue so the supermarkets and the many people in industry. I'll say don't panic yet. But we may be days away from them saying actually. Now's the time to panic I mean tyler is britain and by extension boris johnson. The sick man of europe. Is this an unprecedented crisis. Could we compare it to. I don't know one thousand nine hundred nine well if you look at some of the headlines in the papers certainly in the german press. We've been seeing the word pariah state being used at. This is not something that you throw around lightly georgina and of course. Adrian has lancer as well. You're there've been so many missteps on the part of this government of boris johnson's government over the last year You know just you fits and starts Throats and certainly near the stop start notion of of how to deal with this and then there's just the pure calms issue that you had the health secretary matt hancock. You're really using the words out of control. No one wants to be quoted and heard to be using the world words out of control. But that's of course what is what is popping up in the media all over the place so this is very much a situation Which is a on number ten. Watch and i really. I mean unfortunate viewing You know when we have just a little over week to run to the end of the year absolutely. I mean the whole thing about boris. Johnson is his popularity. He's been trying to do everything. Save christmas to just remain popular. He's he's a brinkman he makes. He puts off decisions until the last possible moment. He's had to do this thing he didn't want to do. What does this mean for his future. Well it certainly calls into question. I think quite a lot of wiser heads in the conservative party. A wondering about the man that elected as their leader elected him as the leader essentially because he was offering a clean break with the party's and and with the country's past as a member of the european union but there were a lot of alarm bells were ringing even before he was elected leader of the conservative party so prime minister about whether he had the kind of character to do the job. Not as those questions are even more relevant today but one aspect of his character is an shown this time and time and time again is that he thinks he can get away with almost anything so things he said in the past that might have ruined other people's political raise. He shrugged them off with a joke or or a struggle. Whatever it whatever it may be decision sees a potential scandals in his private and professional life. He thinks he can trump the more often. Just get on with it. And i think that Which is a kind of you know. Fly by the seat of your pants. Premiership simply isn't up to the task that now faces and and we're we're finding that out and a lot of people paying the price for it absolutely tolerate wonder. If i could just end with you. I don't know how much of an astronomer who are but saturn jupiter comes closest. They've been in almost four hundred years today. The the two giants of the solar system will be just not point one degrees part in the night sky that makes them appear to be one bright star just about the moon the great conjunction as it's being called also coincides with the winter solstice. Now we all know what happened. Two thousand and twenty years ago when there was a bright star. Do you think this is a potent from the heavens. Are we to expect the second coming or the end of days. I think we were corresponding last night. Georgina did use the word biblical then. So i didn't know if that's sort of foxfire. D'you into into that orbit certainly feels like that with this. It is really a convergence on on so so so many levels. I mean if you if you break this down thinking about the the the the ongoing political story that we've had around brexit Really pretty much a year that we've now been dealing with at least global level with this pandemic And then all of these other we call them niggly. Bits that are also I think surrounding the uk at the moment As well so this will be on. This will be revisiting. The story of sure later today and we'll be talking about it across the week for sure. Absolutely and i think just to tear each other up if we could schedule a zoom call later where we both sing. Tutsi-run emma sheet. Is christmas eve That would go some way to alleviating the absolutely. I think that's going to have to be heavily on the playlist this afternoon. We'll look forward to chatting later. Thank you very much to tyler and to launch price

Covid-19 vaccine: First person receives Pfizer jab in UK

"Well. Biontech and pfizer's landmark coronavirus vaccine has been given to the first person in the uk as part of a mass immunization program. The uk's vaccine roll it is being watched keenly across the rest of the world has other countries begin. Prepare to vaccinate their own populations for the latest on this. Let's talk to our health and science correspondent. Dr chris smith. Chris is also consultant for all the gist at cambridge university. I good afternoon. Chris tyler so i guess So far so good at least we have. We have a soundbite already. We had at the top of the program from this ninety year old woman. Who's been there the first to be to vaccinated chris last week. We saw a little bit of Chest thumping on the part of some politicians the uk saying look. This is great The uk is steaming ahead. How eagerly he would you say not. Just the immediate neighbors across this side of the channel but around the world are going to be watching. What are they going to watching. Forty you think over the coming days and weeks as this rolls out well think it will be a confidence boost to those other countries because no one likes to be i they unless it's a shorty. A dead cert. There's always some risk with any kind of intervention. And this is no different. So having a regulator a regulator that's world renowned the jewelry the medicines and healthcare products regulatory agency. Which is the. Uk's regulator which prior to just having jurisdiction over the uk walls prior to the brexit transition kicking providing that service for the whole of europe. Now europe does that through the ama it. It gives a precedent that other countries can look to and say right. Okay one fairly ferry. Big actor has gone ahead with this nathan. It's good therefore we're happy to Gives us some confidence too. So i think that there's always that aspect to it and it's coming good for the uk in the sense that it saying here we are. We've had a pretty rough time with this. But now some some fantastic triumph of sciences kicked in and we're about to start deploying this across the country and we're gonna we're gonna protect our outpatients. We have this type of approval from a respected Player how much do agencies elsewhere of course within the eu and obviously similar bodies all over the world. how much does it short circuit For them as you said. It establishes a precedent And does that mean that you have you know days or weeks then knocked off the process. Of course he. I'm sitting here in switzerland. Obviously a lot of talk as well about of course is also on the uk as well so does it actually then really prevent And and and and you do you have a moment where you have a real series of time locked off. They'd process well. The europeans are considering this through the jurisdiction of the ems the european medicines agency but the uk is still subject to a you know and in the uk is used one particular rule which is a regulation one seven four which is a specification for in public health crisis. Or emergency you can. Emergency approved something for use in your particular jurisdiction so the nhra has used that to approve this for the uk. Any other country in europe could've done the same thing so it's quite interesting that they've actually decided to white on a broad overarching decision from the a. But it doesn't matter. Who your regulator is they have to meet the same checks and balances. Because at the end of the day they all the gateway between a manufactured product and the public who going to receive it and it's on their neck that the decision rests so then going to say a will. They did it so we'll kind of ignore with this stuff would just sign it off. They are going to apply wherever they are in the world the same rigorous checks that they would apply whether or not someone else regulated something but it does help to give them confidence and he gives them a bit more political impetus when they see that. Another major regulator has taken a product which is also going to be wheeled out in that particular country and said well you know what's good enough is enough the ganda over the past few weeks. Of course astrazeneca moderna in this case. Biontech visor they. They've all been popping up in the headlines. Chris and of course various speeds that of course these approval processes have been working at now. We have three vaccines. We're we're now told her that there might also now be a fourth which is very much in play might be getting closer to approval. How different are all of these in terms of effectiveness and and do they all function largely the same way or do you. Also because obviously many countries that are hedging their purchasing all of them. Am i going to be particularly concerned. In a couple of weeks. If if i choose to get the moderna vaccine versus the astrazeneca versus the by pfizer one. In fact i think the uk has go options in on seven different vaccines and yes. You're right three of them are nearing the finishing nine in the uk but there are many others waiting in the wings around the world. There are ten different types of vaccine the work in ten different types of ways or being generated a more than forty and now in advanced stages of clinical trials. So pretty soon. We're going to have more vaccines than we can shake a stick at up to a point. That's a good thing and it's a good thing because not vaccines are going to be suitable for all people not vaccines are going to be available to all people not vaccines are going to work in all territories and what i mean by. That is if we take the fiso vaccine as an example. This needs to be kept at minus seventy degrees until five days or so before you're going to use all nine hundred and seventy five doses that are in batch and i've just seen a letter go from medical director saying can we make sure that we we use all nine hundred seventy five days in a within the five days so that we don't waste any of this very precious vaccine. Now that's going to be no use whatsoever in some countries where they don't even have a stable. Electricity supply let alone a stable minus eighty degrees freezer. So therefore having lots of options is a powerful thing also We don't know what the long term outcomes with these vaccines against be. We know that they provide pretty high level of protection but short after the vaccination program is finished in other words in in the weeks to a month or so. The person's completed the vaccine course. They're protected with the fis vaccine to the level of about nine hundred ninety five percent. But what happens in five months. What happens in a year. we don't know. And it may well be that other products that come along are able to confer a longer term protection. They might confer a big boost if you give one of those on top of one of the other products. This is a learning process. We're going to be sort of going through this process as time goes on an. It's always good to have more options. Where this sort of things concerned. If if your project yourselves twelve months twenty four months out do you think we also end up in a place because of because of cost because of stability many other things that they're only going to be potentially to vaccines. Is that the way things often go. The other ones might be effective but they might be too expensive as you said they might be too volatile and they fall by the wayside. I so i guess what i'm getting at. Will there sort of a clear winner in all of this in terms of one of the players and obviously the concoction that that ends up within the syringe. Well it's hard to say. I mean you know it's like niels bohr. Who is the forefather of quantum mechanics. Said prediction is very difficult especially when it concerns the future. But it's it's going to be very hard to know because we don't know what the long term outcome with these agencies. They are expensive. These genetic vaccines that pfizer. Madonna offering all pricey the astra zeneca vaccine. Which is still sitting with the regulator here in the uk. At the moment that one will be much cheaper and is also much easier to deploy and store so that there are pros and cons of all these things and it may not come down to simply a case if this one does this and this one does this therefore two horse race. I think we will definitely be a market for a few of these products whether or not. That market's going to be sufficient to sustain all forty plus of the clinical trials that are going on now but but certainly while the world is rushing to get this stuff in sufficient volume. Because that's the issue at the moment the companies just can't push it out the door fast enough the moment it's any partner storm so people are desperate to access whatever vaccine they can as fast as they can and just before we go chris any sense. When you're maybe discussing with your medica- medical call leaks. What the uptake is is going to be. I was talking to a doctor at the university hospital here in zurich the other day his defense was that you know probably just within the hospital owned probably fifty percent of the staff. You know would not be interested in taking the vaccine. Is that sort of a a pretty good gauge. In terms of how the public will look at this. Or if you're not in the medical trenches all day maybe you're going to be keener to take it any any house view from your side. I'm sensing quite a degree of what we dub vaccine hesitancy based on the questions that are coming into various radio programs on participating in basic enquiries from members of the general public and if you look at the day to this come out of the pew research center in america have been running a number of population surveys in the states and originally that was very alarming showed that fifty percent of people would reject a vaccine offered one at that point in time. They recently repeated that survey found that in fact the uptake had risen to fifty from fifty to sixty percents so in other words forty percent. Turn it down. But that's still forty percent. Turn down right now in the uk. We think it's probably going to be Less than that but at the same time still a significant proportion of people are uncertain citing rapid production very rapid approval. As a reason for concern. I do think this is largely going to take care of itself though because what will happen is that because of the way in which these vaccines are being rolled out to high priority high risk groups. I with a trickle down into the younger echo lonzo society over time by the time many of the people who live in countering who is saying. I'm nervous about this. Come to be offered a vaccine. It will have actually been through a very significant proportion of other people and that may well have in still quite a bit confidence into people are safe track record by then so i think it may be one of those short term problems. The actually takes care of itself. That's what i'm hoping anyway. Chris thanks very much for that. That was monocled health and science. Dr chris smith.
