What Knicks trade for Lonzo Ball could look like
"To the pelicans new orleans lonzo ball love him or leave him leave him. I think a lot of return for lonzo ball. And i i gotta tell you. I'm really impressed with all the talk. We've been having about lamelo ball lonzo. Ball's men baldwin him shooting the ball well from the three point line. He's not really playing. His position stands got him sort of three indeed settings threes. Chris i on your. I can pick and roll like okay. Zion's carmelo no lonzo ball is the karl malone and john stockton karl malone what the hell down world but it works. It works the upside down any can defend. Yeah leave him. Yeah that's what i think. He fits with the knicks. Because we talked about you talk about random about how well you know how hard air coats and commitment to the defense side of all you have to get a certain type of store star in new york. He's a guy that won't be afraid of coming in and do a little hard working in committing to both sides of the ball quickly which you know. Obviously well his dad prophesized already. He prophesied before but now we just gotta deal with him stats next.
Chiefs release Eric Fisher, Mitchell Schwartz
"Are very lucky. Chris canty that we have breaking news. Because otherwise i would be sitting here yelling at human. They are yelling at me to go immediately to diana. Rossini lonzo has breaking news out of kansas city. Diana what are we have. Yeah adam schefter. Just broke at the kansas city chiefs have now made to gigantic cuts. Both of their tackle. Starting left tackle eric fisher and right tackle jeff schwartz. These two are key players on this offensive line. We know that they didn't play in the super bowl. Obviously eric fisher tours achilles right before so he was unable to play in it and jeff fisher was really working hard. Excuse me jeff. Shorts was really working hard to come back and he said on instagram himself that he was going to be one hundred percent ready to go for this upcoming season. We talked last week all about this week. Being a really difficult week we called it. A massacre at least one coach told me that. And that's what it is. Look at what. The kansas city chiefs are doing off of line that we knew were struggling in the super bowl because they didn't have those two guys no longer on the team. Now

Zion Williamson, Lonzo Ball, Pelicans Hold off Donovan Mitchell, Jazz for Win
"We are back on. Get up and jay. Williams made his way to take a look at the game of the night last night. A good one between the jazz. And the pelicans and this one was all about ziad. Look at him. Going right equity go back just constantly challenging rudy gobert. He gets his shot blocked more than any other player in the league. But it doesn't matter because it's going to finish at the rim. He had fifteen points in the third quarter. Zion did look at them continuing here and just taking a straw once again. He loves eternal right shoulder. That's his patented move. Twenty-six ten last night for zion who was really emerging clear in his second season. Well let's take you to where this game is decided thirty seconds ago jazz are down by one. And here's the big sequence. J. will often miss from donovan mitchell. Donovan mitchell mrs baruch. I don't know if i call that over to bat call rudy gobert. That just much taller. But since i did it take another look at it here. That's go bear. He does get called for over the bag. Zion would make too so the pelicans of a three point lead in. Here's the final shot. Not a great look that the utah jazz get off. Zion gets the rebound josh. Hart gets uncontested dunk. And that is all she wrote. The pelicans get the win. One twenty nine one twenty four and again as i on finishing with twenty six points. Ten boards five assists. Joining anthony davis as the only players in new orleans history with game with those numbers before turning twenty one years old. They will play again tomorrow night
Quantum technology and implications for security in todays computer infrastructure
"Welcome to the cybersecurity weekly podcast. I'm jay lewis podcasting from singapore today joining us today. We have a very special guests from switzerland who is based in zurich. And he's a doctor khumalo. Got the donnie. Who is the security researcher. We've could ask security so thank you very much for joining us today jane. I'm very happy to be here with you today. To be honest to it's quite difficult. Also for ricardian super announced. So don't worry about that. So so the first question. I think many of our listeners will be quite keen to know is is quantum computing a high. Because when you read the news and media nowadays we see a lot of investments that have been announced by governments for example the us national science foundation and the department of energy announced. I think with more than one billion over. The next five years in quantum information systems and russia and germany also not far behind announced close to seven to eight hundred million investment china as well spending time billion on the effort. In the private sector's google and ibm are also spending in excess of one hundred million and even bangs like j. p. Morgan is also looking at developing quantum lonzo banking but on data hen. Also some in saying that quantum states are not reliable stable or quite understood well enough to replace the traditional classical computers and some believe that they will never be able to do so. So my question to you is is quantum computing a hype well All these people you mentioned are very smart so if they spend all this money it must be true right now. Kidding apart we have seen tremendous tremendous advancements in this technology in the in the latest ears. So just put it into perspective. So people started discussing about quantum computing. Already more than fifty years ago but it became interesting. I would say nineteen ninety-four with the discovery your applications for cyber security now. At the beginning people were thinking. Okay this is something very interesting from a theoretical point of view. It will never be real. You know it's it's kind of Would be something like Science fiction like however then after that we have seen continues continues progress on the on the research and development and we especially in the last few years we have weakness a situation from you know we can be really controlled. One beat of quantum information to prototypes. That are actually working. So they are still prototype so they are still not powerful enough to tackle Real world problems. But i wouldn't call it to hype this point so from my personal point of view. The trend is quite clear. So you mentioned the difficulties. In controlling information and the related technology so from from a theoretical perspective the technologies well-understood now. There is engineering challenges into building. Something that is working but this is the case we any brand new technology. I mean justice I transistors. They were big bulky. They were barring city You remember the famous quotes like sixty four. Kilobytes of memory should be enough for an anyone. That's right so like every new technology. There is challenges. So what i see is that from a technological point of view the the tuition is progressing much more rapidly than many expected to ten years ago. Now the question. Everybody's asking his okay. But when are we going to have computers. That are not prototypes anymore. That are something that can solve real world problems My impression is that we are very close to the point but there is a difference in what you consider useful because a lot of people say like okay when we'll quantum computers break cryptography. Well i i think that's not a good measure of progress for quantum computer because quantum computers can do much more than that.
What's going on with the New Orleans Pelicans?
"This year's deputy f team the new orleans pelicans. I don't know what baker this team you can catch them on any given night and it's a completely different experience than the last night. I don't know if the players make sense together. Actually i'm pretty sure they don't. I don't really know what the overall philosophy is. I don't know if they're trying to be a playoff team if they're trying to be rebuilding. I'm just constantly confused and there are some optimism because they want a couple of games around people here they go here. Zion and then they get killed last night by the bulls and have one hundred thousand breakdowns. And i guess my first question to you is the pelicans what the fuck you. How many exclamation points can we tack onto that. Wt fd think. But i was hoping you could answer this question. Because i think you're spot on in that it's so much depends your view of this team on when you catch them even just like what stage in the season. You caught them because for a minute. It looked like they were going to live up to their personnel and be a tough minded offensive team. Scrounging out offensive rebounds to get points and just kinda struggling on that in because they're spacing issues the script has completely flipped. And now this is all of a sudden very competent offense. I think park has really driven by brandon. Ingram is i ion williamson. They're making that part of it work but the defense. Jesus christ i mean it is. There is inconsistent defensively as really any team out there. Yeah i would say other than brooklyn. It's the team that's most likely to give up one hundred forty on any given night to any team. That knows what they're doing. I so if you actually look at their stats and you haven't been watching that much and you look at the stats and you look at williamson in ingram and all right. Those guys are having good years pretty efficient. And then you look at lonzo and you look at bledsoe. Lonzo shoot thirty seven percent from three so she and forty percent so going into the season like well. Their guards can't shoot. They're not going to be able to have enough space. Well their guards are actually shooting. Okay but then. When i watch everybody together. I don't have a five-man line-up that i liked like yesterday. They're playing Kyra lewis with He he got a little more run and he's really interesting. Rookies really fast. He's little darren foxy and gave them an energy that i was like. Well maybe this. Maybe i would like this version of the pelicans more. If fast you know now unleash sign a little bed. Go up and down a little bit more. But i still don't know who the other two teammates would be with cairo. Lewis design and branding. And i guess the fundamental question for me is do zion and brandon. Ingram makes sense together on a team. That's actually trying to win the title. I think they make sense on offense but the question was i on really broadly. As who are you going to put the five that's gonna make up for all. He doesn't do defensively right now. That's always been my issue with the idea of playing small and we are putting him at the five his rotations is. Aren't there really the pelicans as a team. If i were an opposing coach. I would say this is a team. We can beat him rotation every they are. Pass away from defensive breakdown every time out on the floor and keep moving the ball. You keep doing what you're supposed to do they will they will mess up in a whether it's undersized guy in the corner doesn't quite rotate over all the way. Jj radic or josh. Hart they try hard. They do what they can. But they're not equipped to be helped rotation defenders. If a guy like zion isn't going to be one so i mean i'm i'm kinda bullish on the anger rooms ion depot in general but i am really struggling to see how you put together those lineups. I can see how they kind of got into this conundrum where they clearly wanted to have some veterans early. Some veterans fell into their lap in terms of what was available and trying to get some pics and make their other moves but long term. It's a weird team to build with. And then you get lonzo into this conversation to and what they want to do with him. It's it's kind of messy.

Business Lessons with Michael Teoh
"Michael is served fortune. Five hundred companies across forty one countries. Michael take a minute and filling for the tidbits about your law. Thank you so much andrew into all of you listening to this podcast and watching our interview right now lonzo doctrine that's a piece greeting from where i'm from kuala lumpur malaysia nestled in the heart of asia. Just in between singapore and thailand. A little bit tidbit about me is that i'm very grateful. Where during one of my productivity trainings. That i deliver to leaders around the world. It happened in malaysia. On one fine day. Web president barack obama actually visited my training. The president came for half an hour and it left me pleasantly surprised. Though i was shocked and i didn't know what to say for the next one minute. It was an awkward silence but the president gave his signal that i could carry on and then i carried the session on for the next thirty minutes and then the president came up took the stage gave his speech and we had a great time to connect with each other he gave a very very kind testimonial to the work that i was doing for the valla people because at the end of the day andrew really. I believe it's people like us many hardworking people out there watching this interview right now. Who's listening in. We are the ones that make the world goes round. We are the ones that put food on the table and we are the ones that really the movers and shakers many of us unsung heroes again. Thank you again andrew. And that's one of the reasons why i wanted. I was so excited to agree to be given this opportunity even to appear on your show again. Thank you andrew fantastic. You know. it's an interesting thing. Michael that as a financial guy. A lotta times. I spent my and i've spent my years during the performance of companies. And you know what. I've come to learn over. The years is that financial success has to do with two things number one the leader of the company if it's a bad leader in a bad direction that they choose. It's very hard to have strong. Financial success true so number one is the leader and the number two thing. is that what i've learned. In my opinion you don't need superstars. You need good qualified people but what you need is coordination amongst the management team. That's if you have a good leader and coordination amongst the land management team. That is the secret sauce. And so for all those people listening out there. If you think you're gonna find it in a financial statement. It's not there. Because remember as i always teach in my teaching of people in management i always say and particularly to my finance students finance adds no value. And what i mean by that is that finance is a mirror it is a reflection it is a way. It is a feedback mechanism for management team to judge the impact of their decisions. So i like people to understand particularly financial people. I know a lot of financial friends. Listen to this podcast. I want financial. People always keep in mind. That finance is a supporting function. Just as much as human resources and others and if you go into business only with a focus on finance you'll never get there but if you go into business with focus on management leadership strategy in building a team. That works together. It's unstoppable spot on andrew spa and also. I think you know the other thing about i. I often say to small and medium-sized businesses. Never fear giant businesses. Yeah they are so messed up. They can't easily coordinate. The activities of their management team and of the different business units a very difficult thing to do and they've also fallen prey to the the idea of. Kpi's in the sense that everybody has a key performance indicators that they're pushing and all the sudden you have everybody working hard in their own area but few people thinking about how to coordinate that effort and that's why the coordination of the management team is what really can said a small medium sized business apart and make an impact anyways. Those are those. What's your i mean. You've you've done a lot with large as well as small and medium-sized businesses. What are some of the takeaways. Let's just say there's there's listeners here to do have small and medium-sized businesses. What are some of the things that you've learned over the years. I believe one of the things. Andrew that i've just had the fortune to work with is with fortune. Five hundred companies as you mentioned across forty one countries and i agree with you spot on and you mentioned some of these large companies. They have a lot of challenges when they're not coordinated or even if the global headquarters is shoes a directive but when it comes to a localization part if they do not work or respect local partners to work with it doesn't work and one thing i find having coach one hundred fifty. Sme's during this pandemic because it is during this time where truth be told andrew if you would ask me. Is it my first preference to work with sms. Truth be told. It's not reason being because during this pandemic when it hit malaysia we ran into a lot now immediately all out. Huge corporate clients decided to freeze training. Funds decided to freeze employees development funds. And i realized that s my business was suffering yet. I didn't wanna give up so what i felt was. Hey if the big boys or the big corporates are not able to pay me. Where else can i bring my company. Where else can pivot. And where else can i add tremendous value. Because i'm a believer if you wanna get paid in. Whatever you're doing do not ask us of what people could give you but instead ask what you can give people so i started asking myself. What value can i give. And that was. When i realized that a lot of sme's struggling they were shutting down. And then i realized that. I coach i train. I guide a lot of bit. Corporates on sales marketing on how to happen entrepreneurial jal thinking and i thought i'm just going to bring all this formula that i've learned from all these big companies and i'm going to localize it personalized to sme's and that was how we help them generate five to six figures revenue during the time when everyone was closing shop independent lockdown that hit malaysia. And then people heard about us across the region and that was how we got invited across south east asia and part of the united states to do trainings consulting and even some mentoring virtually. But if you were to ask me what i really respect from. Sme's that were willing to at least fight. During this pandemic is their willingness that openness to be jal and to be nimble and to assure a-team that things are going to be uncertain. They're going to be uncertain if physician change of a drop of a hat. They must have be emotional audacity the strength to cope with it and to just have that faith that better things will come
"lonzo" Discussed on The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard & Rob Parker
"At how well he has played. What look his numbers are better than lonzo's already lonzo's averaging thirteen and a half points lamelo averaging twelve lamelo averages and he's playing fewer minutes than lonzo lamelo averaging five rebounds to lonzo's four and a half lamelo average and five assists lonzo four and a half the mellow shooting better from the free throw line. There's the same from the field forty percent both of them and then from three lamelo. Thirty four percent lonzo's thirty three percent so and he remembers coming off the bench. And that's i do like that. He is coming off the bench. Like i didn't want charlotte to just hand them. The keys they got. Terry rozier who's bettered in Lamelo at this point. They got devante. Graham who had a great season last year eighteen points. I think five or six. You know when you have rounded player that high though you expect in big rights and i get it online. And that's why i like the. They're making him earn his minutes. You know they're not just given and they're a bad team to your point but that they because of that you would think they might just throw him out there. Starting playing thirty five minutes a night. You know what i mean. Let him just do whatever he wants. And that's not happening. Which i think is good for him. Because i think maybe he could learn. We had to kind of play some serious basketball. I'm curious as to what people think what they've seen so far how far lonzo's star has dimmed not that he can't be a decent right. He's a legitimate players. I'm not saying that right but when you look here member. Who was ned. Dr deer fox deer foxes playing like an all star and deanne fox. Who killed him in college number. And we've said if his dad lavar was a normal dad where you didn't know who he was he didn't say anything. I think the lakers would have been more apt. Take the air and then lonzo. Because i dare killed him in in in college. I thought it was at a tournament game. What was it. He was a moral game. One time. lonzo didn't play your some. They play twice. I think in the season. If i'm not mistaken lonzo sat out one or two games. But yeah are the air and is looks like the better player for sure at this point but lonzo solid but like you said. His dad's mouth helped him get drafted. Second by the lakers and they all hurt that it put a target on his back from fans the media and other players and then magic did worse. He double down. George is going to be in the rafters next to. I make chris. You remember your shot the best boy ghar ever. You said this dude. Go break your records. You know so i look lonzo. I think wants to play in peace. He is on a good team. But let's see if they can start winning. But i think he could be a part of you know if they build something special in new orleans. I think he could be a part of it but again is disconcerting at. He's only at four and a half assists. I'm sorry that i that's not a good look so all right. I think it's going to be immaterial because the clear plan. And i'm seeing from the ball. Brothers eight to play together. I think lonzo signing with klutch sports opting not to sign him extension to wait until free agency. I think that he is going to push to try to get paired up with his brother had planned the same team. And i think that's when you'll see the best of you my man but stop it. Stop lots. Ball brothers Lonzo, LaMelo set to square off in NBA matchup
"We're talking about lonzo in the last segment. A little bit and brandon ingram coups mud cetera. But the whole point was that lamelo alonzo are playing. And you don't have a lot of brothers playing against each other. We know the wilkins brothers Played against each other. Obviously the soul brothers have played against each other so this is just another installation of that particular kind of cool fund rivalry that the nba tends to have but we you know we talked a lot about lonzo. What do you think of the mellows. Ceiling is wow. That's a great question Ever since i first saw him like what was it like three years ago now watching plane. Aau it was obvious he was really talented offensive player. So i would say. His silly is attached to his defense. Okay you know. The more he improved bronco on defense to hire his silly goes because even though i think he's a really talented offensive. Play at the reality is. There's not a whole lot of dudes who play his position in the back court. That can't get you them buckets. Right what else you got. And we're waiting to see him. Show us the other aspects of it tastes him from being a talented young player to someone who may be able to lead a team to a french tour championship. So at this point It's a wait and see i need to. I need to spend a liberal time playing ball getting better getting stronger. Before i can tell you where i think is ceiling is going to go because i need to see how strong and how defensive he's going to become yet. Defensively is a big problem. I think big problem right now but it's a big problem for young players especially rookies week or so. You know. it's time for all of them. So i'm not going to hold them to this. But after two seasons if dudes are still blown by him because he's too busy trying to leak out get buckets. Then we know what that is. Yeah look here's ofensive skill set. His passing is ridiculous. Like we already know that that very early on do you think. He has a higher ceiling than lonzo though no not inherently so right well of course. There's always a good defender. There's no question about really answer. Really good rebounder right. And he's equally as good as a passer. So you're asking yourself. We'll lonzo's offense developed faster than lamelo defense. Because that's gap right. There will lonzo's offense develop than I would say lonzo's offenses rounding to form much much better. These last eight months or whatever lamelo defense defense takes a while i feel like guy sometimes go years before they learn to play real. Good defense is that fair or it depends on the coach that should never have conversations with Jj radic over the years and bright before he was drafted. He and i were joking. I was like dude. I love you to be in phoenix. House wins nash. And amari and those guys were rolling. Sounds like do you just be straight buckets. Any overstaying strengthen gundy and you needed to lay defense to play. I needed to pay exactly to play defense for stand right and it was because of that. He's still in the league. I don't know if he was still being the league. If it wasn't for stan forced him to know how to play good defense and he did. He became a very capable defender Even though he's small right even though he you know he he's he's not he's strong for size but he's not like some overwhelming You know person when it comes to his strength but he's really smart. He plays the angles while he plays team defense. Because you're you're right. You're right

Yes i'm going to go ahead and quickly Discussed the strengths. This was a randomized placebo. Controlled double blind trial. They had a large sample size around fifty. Five hundred patients were randomized. These patients were on solid background. Therapy as i discuss previously. And i think this answers are very important. Clinical question about further risk reduction in patients with cad. Yes so. I completely agree. I mean this is a a well done study with no real fatal flaws. But certainly. There's some things discuss here so i or a couple of things regarding the design of the trial. That really. Back to the generalize ability the findings so i the trial like taylor said was done primarily male patient population specifically in western australia and netherlands. So as unfortunately we see often cardiovascular literature women were underrepresented here in the extrapolation other ethnic groups may be challenged. But the. I don't see this at this. Point is a fatal flaw and i don't have any real biological reason to think that the results wouldn't extrapolate other groups next specifically the culture seem does that was used was point five milligrams which is different than the zero point six milligrams at least we have here in the us. So for some of this could be an issue in what's unknown at this point is if this twenty percent difference in concentration could ultimately impact you the outcomes whether the efficacy or safety however again my gut says it's it's probably k. We've extrapolated from some of the pericarditis data and used are kinda us doses with benefit. So with those said. I think the biggest issue kind of discuss regarding this trial is the priroda musician running phase so against dealer alluded to patients after they were enrolled went into a one month. Essentially tolerability running phase in which fifteen percent of patients actually dropped out during this phase before random ization patients dropped out about sixty percent or overall about nine percent of the overall enrollment phase was lost to perceived side effects for which about half were gi related. As you'd expect with culture scene for me this dropout rate largely for eighty are reasons. Make really me question. The finding of equal discontinuation rates between the trial arms in might skew what we might actually see in clinical practice so i don't think losing sight of shore educating patients about possible side effects from a statistical standpoint you can have the consideration that dropping patients pre random ization due to tolerability concerns. Kind of enriches your potential drug effect. You don't have those patients in the intention to treat arm who aren't exposed to the drug so possibly is looking drug effect versus placebo. Based on what you'd expect in practice you may potentially not see the same overwhelming benefit but the benefit was very strong. And i don't think adding those patients back in would necessarily change the overall Interpretation trial or the application. So really from running phases very much a A safety issue versus inefficacy issue. So alternate of. Bring that back to get back to coach. Seems place in therapy ultimate At this point. I really think lonzo to help to continue to confirm the potential benefit of colchicine in cad management. When we look at this along with other trials whether it be the local one and then probably most importantly combine this along with the whole cod study. We see it but largely consistent benefit with culture seeing reducing cardiovascular events out for those familiar with the study may also seen that at the same time the lotto co two was presented also. A study called cops was presented and this is specific australian study that looked at culture again in an acs population now. This was a negative study. But the real caveat with that is the trial was actually powered for very large difference in events so it really was underpowered to potentially detect. What we what was suggested as possibly clinically relevant differences power. Find about a fifty percent difference in. It looked like there might have been about thirty percent difference. Which is what's consistent with other studies. So kinda really negates. The ability for that trial to kind of pooh-poohed on potential benefits here and i really think ultimately what we have to ask ourselves is is this nonfatal event risk reduction enough to make a therapy part of standard therapy in will i'd say softer endpoint is at play here. It's probably at least reasonable that it's something that we can't just throw out

A Weekend Of Chaos In Britain
"Been a weekend of chaos. in britain. the prime minister. Boris johnson gave a press conference on saturday which kick started a chain of events that is now being felt worldwide launch price former communications director at number ten downing street joins me now and monaco own editorial director tyler overlay is on the line from our studio launch. If we could begin with you can you talk us through. What's happened since saturday afternoon. Well basically christmas in britain has not quite been canceled. But it's come pretty close to it and it's enfold a pretty massive change of direction if not u-turn by the british government only on wednesday of last week. The prime minister was saying it would be inhuman draws people to cancel that christmas plans And then on saturday. He was forced to do a news conference in which he said that that is exactly what he was asking them to do. So that now people in in this country because of this new variant of covid nineteen essentially will be asked to just see a small number of people depending on where they live in the country on one day only on christmas day and then of course. We learned yesterday overnight. that's because of this New variant which is understandable because in great concern around the world. People struggled to see whether or not they have already with a. If they haven't they can they can contain the to prevent it coming. In from the united kingdom of borders closed all over the place huge queues to lorries trying to get to the at channel pulse dover in in particular where the crossing is to france and The french assigned that they won't take any huge queues at the an railway stations that get out of london and also chaos at the airports with likes being canceled to just about every destination you can of and it's hard to keep track of all the buddhas being closed at the moment. Tyler could bring you in here. What is the european view. We'll good afternoon georgia. European is one of not just canceling flights and cancelling connections. But also what we're seeing now. are now new quarantines going up so you know brits and also we also focused on maybe on a territory close to your heart or close to your heart also south africa as well because south africa is very much in the news as well it it. It is really in line with the uk as another country. is seeing outright bans on all travelers arriving whether the company from cape town or Or johannesburg into germany into switzerland and elsewhere as well so you have mean proper borders closes. It looked to for that moment. Yesterday we saw the dutch saying that. Okay airlinks We're going to be suspended but now we're looking at you. No one is allowed to arrive. in many countries the uk. And as you said almost minute by minute there are new measures going by countries across the continent here I mean lance one of your former colleagues listed campbell says it looks like the whole country is being put in brexit four by the rest of the world when incompetence meets venality and covert and brexit combined to expose the worst possible government at the worst possible. Time which you agree has this been woefully mishandled. Mile does have a way with words doesn't he. And he's absolutely right to in pretty much. Everything within the he says. Of course you have to separate this from from brexit brexit the final brexit deadline. Which is the thirty first of january. Hasn't yet hit us but as honestly suggests it's a taste of what we thought who's going to come anyway and he's also right to say that it raises a big question over the competence of the government other new variant of covid. Nineteen isn't boris johnson. Falls it's not anybody's walton in the in the british government but their reluctance to recognize. What so many other people around the world were recognizing and what their own scientific medical devices with telling them. Which was that the original plan for a five day. Christmas virtual virtually a free for all in the uk was just madness to only for that only to dawn on them on saturday. In the light of the new virus i think does call call call into question their their competence the end of the year when actually frankly dot competence has been called into question many times. I mean you think that johnson used the fact of the new variant to excuse his u-turn and was that then the perfect excuse for european borders to to fall like dominoes and shut us off physically from the block. Is there a little bit of perhaps schadenfreude going on here. We'll do spend a lot of speculation today georgina. You look at a number of different european news. Outlets are we also heading for some type of emergency extension Which could potentially happen. Which would again this would be of. Course be you know the perfect measure You have this new strain. You have borders. Of course being closed eros suspended cetera There there's no better excuse to if they wanted to kick this into the grass. I mean no one wants this But certainly you have to think here we have incredibly busy government Who have to deal with logistics issues. they have to deal with A media and public storm around this. I think we could be could be heading for certainly if you're listening to a lot of the correspondence at have brussels today. Maybe an extension talking about those logistical issues. Lonzo i mean. There are serious concerns about supply chains. How will the border closures affect availability of because then indeed traffic. Kent is already gridlocked in terms of traffic coming into the uk. Of course the roots are still open. If people wish to use those rates as a question ma about whether eu holiest would want to send their vehicles into the uk If they didn't get out again especially in the run-up to christmas and the other thing to remember is that a quite a lot quite a high percentage of trade across the english channel is unaccompanied freight. So it goes in containers dr flirt. It's picked up on the other side so there's no physical as a human being crossing with it and that can continue so the supermarkets and the many people in industry. I'll say don't panic yet. But we may be days away from them saying actually. Now's the time to panic I mean tyler is britain and by extension boris johnson. The sick man of europe. Is this an unprecedented crisis. Could we compare it to. I don't know one thousand nine hundred nine well if you look at some of the headlines in the papers certainly in the german press. We've been seeing the word pariah state being used at. This is not something that you throw around lightly georgina and of course. Adrian has lancer as well. You're there've been so many missteps on the part of this government of boris johnson's government over the last year You know just you fits and starts Throats and certainly near the stop start notion of of how to deal with this and then there's just the pure calms issue that you had the health secretary matt hancock. You're really using the words out of control. No one wants to be quoted and heard to be using the world words out of control. But that's of course what is what is popping up in the media all over the place so this is very much a situation Which is a on number ten. Watch and i really. I mean unfortunate viewing You know when we have just a little over week to run to the end of the year absolutely. I mean the whole thing about boris. Johnson is his popularity. He's been trying to do everything. Save christmas to just remain popular. He's he's a brinkman he makes. He puts off decisions until the last possible moment. He's had to do this thing he didn't want to do. What does this mean for his future. Well it certainly calls into question. I think quite a lot of wiser heads in the conservative party. A wondering about the man that elected as their leader elected him as the leader essentially because he was offering a clean break with the party's and and with the country's past as a member of the european union but there were a lot of alarm bells were ringing even before he was elected leader of the conservative party so prime minister about whether he had the kind of character to do the job. Not as those questions are even more relevant today but one aspect of his character is an shown this time and time and time again is that he thinks he can get away with almost anything so things he said in the past that might have ruined other people's political raise. He shrugged them off with a joke or or a struggle. Whatever it whatever it may be decision sees a potential scandals in his private and professional life. He thinks he can trump the more often. Just get on with it. And i think that Which is a kind of you know. Fly by the seat of your pants. Premiership simply isn't up to the task that now faces and and we're we're finding that out and a lot of people paying the price for it absolutely tolerate wonder. If i could just end with you. I don't know how much of an astronomer who are but saturn jupiter comes closest. They've been in almost four hundred years today. The the two giants of the solar system will be just not point one degrees part in the night sky that makes them appear to be one bright star just about the moon the great conjunction as it's being called also coincides with the winter solstice. Now we all know what happened. Two thousand and twenty years ago when there was a bright star. Do you think this is a potent from the heavens. Are we to expect the second coming or the end of days. I think we were corresponding last night. Georgina did use the word biblical then. So i didn't know if that's sort of foxfire. D'you into into that orbit certainly feels like that with this. It is really a convergence on on so so so many levels. I mean if you if you break this down thinking about the the the the ongoing political story that we've had around brexit Really pretty much a year that we've now been dealing with at least global level with this pandemic And then all of these other we call them niggly. Bits that are also I think surrounding the uk at the moment As well so this will be on. This will be revisiting. The story of sure later today and we'll be talking about it across the week for sure. Absolutely and i think just to tear each other up if we could schedule a zoom call later where we both sing. Tutsi-run emma sheet. Is christmas eve That would go some way to alleviating the absolutely. I think that's going to have to be heavily on the playlist this afternoon. We'll look forward to chatting later. Thank you very much to tyler and to launch price
Covid-19 vaccine: First person receives Pfizer jab in UK
"Well. Biontech and pfizer's landmark coronavirus vaccine has been given to the first person in the uk as part of a mass immunization program. The uk's vaccine roll it is being watched keenly across the rest of the world has other countries begin. Prepare to vaccinate their own populations for the latest on this. Let's talk to our health and science correspondent. Dr chris smith. Chris is also consultant for all the gist at cambridge university. I good afternoon. Chris tyler so i guess So far so good at least we have. We have a soundbite already. We had at the top of the program from this ninety year old woman. Who's been there the first to be to vaccinated chris last week. We saw a little bit of Chest thumping on the part of some politicians the uk saying look. This is great The uk is steaming ahead. How eagerly he would you say not. Just the immediate neighbors across this side of the channel but around the world are going to be watching. What are they going to watching. Forty you think over the coming days and weeks as this rolls out well think it will be a confidence boost to those other countries because no one likes to be i they unless it's a shorty. A dead cert. There's always some risk with any kind of intervention. And this is no different. So having a regulator a regulator that's world renowned the jewelry the medicines and healthcare products regulatory agency. Which is the. Uk's regulator which prior to just having jurisdiction over the uk walls prior to the brexit transition kicking providing that service for the whole of europe. Now europe does that through the ama it. It gives a precedent that other countries can look to and say right. Okay one fairly ferry. Big actor has gone ahead with this nathan. It's good therefore we're happy to Gives us some confidence too. So i think that there's always that aspect to it and it's coming good for the uk in the sense that it saying here we are. We've had a pretty rough time with this. But now some some fantastic triumph of sciences kicked in and we're about to start deploying this across the country and we're gonna we're gonna protect our outpatients. We have this type of approval from a respected Player how much do agencies elsewhere of course within the eu and obviously similar bodies all over the world. how much does it short circuit For them as you said. It establishes a precedent And does that mean that you have you know days or weeks then knocked off the process. Of course he. I'm sitting here in switzerland. Obviously a lot of talk as well about of course is also on the uk as well so does it actually then really prevent And and and and you do you have a moment where you have a real series of time locked off. They'd process well. The europeans are considering this through the jurisdiction of the ems the european medicines agency but the uk is still subject to a you know and in the uk is used one particular rule which is a regulation one seven four which is a specification for in public health crisis. Or emergency you can. Emergency approved something for use in your particular jurisdiction so the nhra has used that to approve this for the uk. Any other country in europe could've done the same thing so it's quite interesting that they've actually decided to white on a broad overarching decision from the a. But it doesn't matter. Who your regulator is they have to meet the same checks and balances. Because at the end of the day they all the gateway between a manufactured product and the public who going to receive it and it's on their neck that the decision rests so then going to say a will. They did it so we'll kind of ignore with this stuff would just sign it off. They are going to apply wherever they are in the world the same rigorous checks that they would apply whether or not someone else regulated something but it does help to give them confidence and he gives them a bit more political impetus when they see that. Another major regulator has taken a product which is also going to be wheeled out in that particular country and said well you know what's good enough is enough the ganda over the past few weeks. Of course astrazeneca moderna in this case. Biontech visor they. They've all been popping up in the headlines. Chris and of course various speeds that of course these approval processes have been working at now. We have three vaccines. We're we're now told her that there might also now be a fourth which is very much in play might be getting closer to approval. How different are all of these in terms of effectiveness and and do they all function largely the same way or do you. Also because obviously many countries that are hedging their purchasing all of them. Am i going to be particularly concerned. In a couple of weeks. If if i choose to get the moderna vaccine versus the astrazeneca versus the by pfizer one. In fact i think the uk has go options in on seven different vaccines and yes. You're right three of them are nearing the finishing nine in the uk but there are many others waiting in the wings around the world. There are ten different types of vaccine the work in ten different types of ways or being generated a more than forty and now in advanced stages of clinical trials. So pretty soon. We're going to have more vaccines than we can shake a stick at up to a point. That's a good thing and it's a good thing because not vaccines are going to be suitable for all people not vaccines are going to be available to all people not vaccines are going to work in all territories and what i mean by. That is if we take the fiso vaccine as an example. This needs to be kept at minus seventy degrees until five days or so before you're going to use all nine hundred and seventy five doses that are in batch and i've just seen a letter go from medical director saying can we make sure that we we use all nine hundred seventy five days in a within the five days so that we don't waste any of this very precious vaccine. Now that's going to be no use whatsoever in some countries where they don't even have a stable. Electricity supply let alone a stable minus eighty degrees freezer. So therefore having lots of options is a powerful thing also We don't know what the long term outcomes with these vaccines against be. We know that they provide pretty high level of protection but short after the vaccination program is finished in other words in in the weeks to a month or so. The person's completed the vaccine course. They're protected with the fis vaccine to the level of about nine hundred ninety five percent. But what happens in five months. What happens in a year. we don't know. And it may well be that other products that come along are able to confer a longer term protection. They might confer a big boost if you give one of those on top of one of the other products. This is a learning process. We're going to be sort of going through this process as time goes on an. It's always good to have more options. Where this sort of things concerned. If if your project yourselves twelve months twenty four months out do you think we also end up in a place because of because of cost because of stability many other things that they're only going to be potentially to vaccines. Is that the way things often go. The other ones might be effective but they might be too expensive as you said they might be too volatile and they fall by the wayside. I so i guess what i'm getting at. Will there sort of a clear winner in all of this in terms of one of the players and obviously the concoction that that ends up within the syringe. Well it's hard to say. I mean you know it's like niels bohr. Who is the forefather of quantum mechanics. Said prediction is very difficult especially when it concerns the future. But it's it's going to be very hard to know because we don't know what the long term outcome with these agencies. They are expensive. These genetic vaccines that pfizer. Madonna offering all pricey the astra zeneca vaccine. Which is still sitting with the regulator here in the uk. At the moment that one will be much cheaper and is also much easier to deploy and store so that there are pros and cons of all these things and it may not come down to simply a case if this one does this and this one does this therefore two horse race. I think we will definitely be a market for a few of these products whether or not. That market's going to be sufficient to sustain all forty plus of the clinical trials that are going on now but but certainly while the world is rushing to get this stuff in sufficient volume. Because that's the issue at the moment the companies just can't push it out the door fast enough the moment it's any partner storm so people are desperate to access whatever vaccine they can as fast as they can and just before we go chris any sense. When you're maybe discussing with your medica- medical call leaks. What the uptake is is going to be. I was talking to a doctor at the university hospital here in zurich the other day his defense was that you know probably just within the hospital owned probably fifty percent of the staff. You know would not be interested in taking the vaccine. Is that sort of a a pretty good gauge. In terms of how the public will look at this. Or if you're not in the medical trenches all day maybe you're going to be keener to take it any any house view from your side. I'm sensing quite a degree of what we dub vaccine hesitancy based on the questions that are coming into various radio programs on participating in basic enquiries from members of the general public and if you look at the day to this come out of the pew research center in america have been running a number of population surveys in the states and originally that was very alarming showed that fifty percent of people would reject a vaccine offered one at that point in time. They recently repeated that survey found that in fact the uptake had risen to fifty from fifty to sixty percents so in other words forty percent. Turn it down. But that's still forty percent. Turn down right now in the uk. We think it's probably going to be Less than that but at the same time still a significant proportion of people are uncertain citing rapid production very rapid approval. As a reason for concern. I do think this is largely going to take care of itself though because what will happen is that because of the way in which these vaccines are being rolled out to high priority high risk groups. I with a trickle down into the younger echo lonzo society over time by the time many of the people who live in countering who is saying. I'm nervous about this. Come to be offered a vaccine. It will have actually been through a very significant proportion of other people and that may well have in still quite a bit confidence into people are safe track record by then so i think it may be one of those short term problems. The actually takes care of itself. That's what i'm hoping anyway. Chris thanks very much for that. That was monocled health and science. Dr chris smith.
Breaking Down Tonights NBA Draft: The Players, The Picks, and Virtual Fashion
"Mike schmidts. Thank you for joining me mandy day that you work towards every single year has finally arrived. Yeah i feel like this is our our super bowl and we've been waiting for this forever. I we thought it was going to be in june. And then maybe october and now here in november so you know i think teams and myself are very excited to get this one of the books. Mike schmidts is an nba draft analyst for espn. And he's been traveling the world scouting nba prospects for nearly a decade. I love the nba. draft personally. I went to the draft at the garden. Growing up in new york as a sad knicks fan and i still love the draft. Which tells you something about my own personal pathologies. The weirdness of this draft mike. You said it. This is going to be held in a way that has never been seen before. It's going to be entirely remote adam. Silver the commissioner. Mark tatum the deputy commissioner. They're going to be reading out. Picks live from espn studios in bristol. Where you are right now. So tell me what it's been like for teams and for players to go through this whole draft process in the midst of a global pandemic. It's been very very challenging for teams and players alike from the team side. They're used to having march madness the nba draft. Combine tournaments like portsmouth invitational. Which is where you see. You know a jimmy butler and some of these seniors pop up. They're able to have their individual workouts one on one workouts team workouts. I really have these guys in their building and this pre-draft process that just simply hasn't been the case so think you have teams kind of relying on a lot of these zoom calls right. We've all been kind of zoom jail more or less for the last few months You know they're relying on film. They're relying on intel and then from the players perspective. I think they just want to finally hear their name called. I mean this is the moment that they've been waiting for their entire lives. And so i feel a lot of these kids just having to have this. Push back and push back in push-back. They've each had very different circumstances. I mean some guys are like in the gym working out with nba players. Every day. some are with you know their brother and their cousin and some empty. Jim just one on getting workout. Since so it's been very strange. I guess the thing. I think of when i think about what might be lost in this iteration of the draft like are they going to be suits mike. Are we gonna get like nba draft fashion. That we've been blessed by in the past. Oh we're getting it it's coming it's coming virtually you're not gonna see that same strut the same level of excitement that we generally get in barklays within walking up on the stage but from everything i've seen out on social media everything i've heard. I think the suit game is still going to be strong. Yeah i just want if one of those guys wanna go retro and bring back like the seventeen but in suit. I just wanna make sure. The camera frame contains all seventeen of those budgets. We're gonna do everything we can to get that done. I hope we really really highlight the fashion. Because that that might steal the night to be honest i want to take a deep dive into the top three players in the draft to start here because the three of them. You've been talking about relentlessly for months. Now lamelo ball. James wiseman anthony edwards. They're all still in play for the number one overall pick which belongs of course to the minnesota timberwolves and i want to start with lamelo because we know as the brother lonzo the son of lavar and he chose to play overseas australia instead of going to the college game but for the uninitiated ear. What is lamelo offered to whichever team does end up selecting him tonight. I think he's the best prospect in the draft. Honestly i think if he played at duke kentucky enter any big name college program and he didn't have some of the questions about kind of the circus that has surrounded him at times in his life. I think he would be the runaway number. One pick in terms of his game. I mean he's a big point guard. Six seven close to six foot. Eight is one of the youngest players in the draft. Who was a late bloomer. So i think people remember him as the young you know twelve year old looking kid bomb and half court shots but he's really grown into his frame as great size has the ball on a string as a ball handler. He's incredibly shifty and smooth and his playmaking is ridiculous. The way he sees the game is really really special.
How Will Stan Van Gundy Fit With the Pelicans?
"Was a few weeks ago in the ringer NBA show that at the very tail end of the show I recall you saying. Keep an eye out for Stan van Gundy and New Orleans and since we last spoke That came to fruition Stan Van Gundy was hired by David Griffin and the New Orleans Pelicans I think when this all started with the pelicans ouster of Alvin gentry. Through the. Face Tyler had a former relationship with David. Griffin, we talk about my Tony possibly because he had a former relationship via the Phoenix Suns with David Griffin but they do land on Stan van, Gundy as their next head coach when you saw that news come across the wire, would you think great I'm happy I think he could bring some accountability to the team in terms of how much they need it on the defensive end of the floor they were horrific. On defense this season in San Andy. Of course, infamously famously I'm not sure once said build an effing wall and that the Pelicans need to do and I look forward to see what he can do now that he's back in the NBA but by the way like he failed in Detroit because he was coach. Angie 'em now he's just a coach right and he was always a good coach. He was good basketball coach and it was one of those cautionary tales of. It is two different skill sets number one it also in many cases can be two different motivations right if I am if I am the general manager and the coach now let's say I make a poor signing or a poor usage of money will sometimes I may want to use that guy to prove that I was right about this guy right and I know that you Still get into that with with a front offices and coaches anyway, right in in everybody wants to be responsible everybody wants to be right about the move they made. But when you then you're not doing the scouting of every other team on a regular basis, I know you have scouts you're certainly not doing that with college, but it's just a very hard job to do twofold and. Another cautionary tale of taking that over I mean everybody wants that power but I think we've seen two of these guys. Now fact three of these guys. Now, all of which I think you would say were subpar to very below average in that role but. We respect them as guys that are on the sidelines as basketball coaches. That is their expertise in that is doc rivers who took on that role Tom Thibodeau who took on that role and Stan Van Gundy who took on that role and yet got hired as coaches though it didn't go well at their last stops. I mean doc better than the other two but we thought. Hires because these guys are good basketball coaches who were miscast trying to run everything for sure absolutely and ultimately it's another good opportunity for him when New Orleans area there even though they have Zion, they have ingram granted these a restricted free agent. He'll likely back matched any offer sheet or whatever This is still sort of A. Team right now that can go in many different directions depending on how David Griffin wants to build it out and I look forward to seeing the ways in which Van Gundy, Utilize Zion and the ways in which he tries to get him going off because remember you know before all the three point shooting, we've seen the last ten years or so that has. Exploded with the warriors and the rockets and all these teams shooting lot of threes, the magic, Dwight Howard at center and four shooters around him in the late two thousands with anti head coach and they went to a finals. We're going to be lost to Kobe and the Lakers The had some good run they some really strong teams and in with Williamson. With the New Orleans Pelicans, I know they want to add another they don't want to go like all small Wall. With Zion at the five all the time it's it's just went to work but I, think van Gundy's pasts and what he could do now with this roster, it's kind of exciting to think about the possibilities with the different ways in which they can use ion but most importantly though and again, this is like with all the coaching hires we talk about I am more interested in the personnel changes who they draft, who do they try to trade for? Who Do they try to sign I am WHO's coaching the team, but you know I'm excited to see if they're able to get. Zion, going and creative ways that they weren't able to do as much during the season despite his success he posted up a lot man I. WanNa see some more pick and roll with Zion I wanNA see some more creativity with him, handling the ball and running pick and roll, and that will largely come from other personnel changes that come to the roster that allow that to happen. But Hey, man SVG had success with some different types of teams in the past and I look forward to seeing what he can do here with him, and that team has a good roster they under performed badly. Made sometimes teams underperformed because you look at their roster and you go man aol have the goods like that team underperformed I. Think so too. I think of course it I mean look I mean Lonzo I think Lonzo hit one shot in the bubble well, even though they're young that defense was bad even though they had good individual defenders, they've jrue holiday one of the best perimeter guard defenders, Ingraham and Lonzo. They were good defenders of the Lakers. They were the last two years. They were good. They were not good defenders last season with New Orleans. And Zion I, mean he was horrific. He was so bad on defense. It was it was really sad to watch. This is the guy who is blocking three point shots closing out from the opposite side of the paint at Duke just a year prior, which is why people wonder how much of it was fatigue coming back but season how much of it was the injury limiting him how much of it was effort I? Don't know I don't know what it was but regardless. He stunk on defense, and all of this needs to change next season for this team to be anything that have any chance of actually getting into the playoffs it can't be all

NBA mock draft: Anthony Edwards or LaMelo Ball as top pick?
"Minnesota Timberwolves had these third worst record this season but won the lottery last night and we'll select first overall in the upcoming NDA draft. lamelo ball has been consistently ranked in the top three prospects. "We saw it. Lonzo ball was good. Lonzo ball played minutes. And the the Lakers won. The Lakers are now three and one when Lonzo plays more moments or more minutes than Rondo and Chris Broussard came on earlier, we talked about this. There was a battle going into the season veteran Rondo young Lonzo again last night. Lonzo got the major minutes and the Lakers looked really good and Bruce talked about that you got one player that needs the ball. And that can't shoot. That's rondo. You've got another player who has proven. He doesn't need the ball, and he can shoot off the ball spot up shoot. That's lonzo. Obviously lonzo's gonna fit better with LeBron. They wanted to win to some degree. Now, they're not thinking championship. But they're thinking, hey, we do want to make the playoffs. We do want to make a little noise in the playoffs. That's why they went out and got Rondo land. Stevenson. And the veterans so those necessarily go together. Lonzo ball last night. Lakers. One too. Big leads almost blew it. He went three for three from beyond the arc. He had seven assists. No turnovers. He's a better defender than Rondo and. Well, I think Lonzo I think Lonzo juxtaposed with Rondo he's more chill. And I also think as I said earlier growing up with lavar he's okay being in the shadow when you're surrounded by a loud alpha. And I think he's worked very well with LeBron James tomorrow on the show the red hot blazing five Peter King TJ Hirschman zodda, the blazing five office to its best start ever can Jon Gruden saved the season for the raiders tonight. "NBA regular season November October game, I'm not going to. But I will tell you this it once again proved Lonzo ball's better than Rondo and I've been on this for two weeks. Lonzo ball played twice them in its Rondo last night. The Lakers one again when that happens. That's happened. Four times there are three and one. And the only loss was in overtime. Lonzo by the way was three for three on threes. Lonzo by the way, had seven assists and no turnovers and Lonzo has separated himself defensively he is much but on the Rondo. For all the Lonzo ball haters. He is better than Rondo. And the Lakers are better when he plays more minutes than Rondo, Rondo is moody and inconsistent Rondo pixes spots TV games. TNT what he wants to play. Well last night was not a big TV game. They played the Mavericks. It was a Wednesday. Nobody watched in Rondo was to for seven and had a minus twenty one plus minus. Lonzo should be playing three minutes for every minute. Rondo plays. Lonzo is better than Rondo. And lonzo's the future not Rondo. And here's the other thing is that Kuzina. Brandon Ingram, Josh heart and Lonzo they're boys. They're buddies their friends. Rondo is in friends with anybody in an article a year ago. He said, quote, I'm not really into people unquote, Rondo is the NBA's transient moody vagrant who shows up in a town doesn't make friends sometimes help she'll win. And then people tire of him watch. The Lakers would Lonzo last night. Better communication cleaner. The ball moves better. The team is better. And they win Luke Walton? I think he's figuring it out lonzo's better for the team better for the results and Lonzo is better than Rondo. You know, something else would Lonzo ball. And I I know lavar ball is very controversial. And a lot of people don't like lavar ball his dad's methods right Iowa said I'm not going to criticize a dad period. But I'm not gonna cut us is a dad that got his kids to UCLA. Here's what's interesting one of the things that you could argue. Is that Lonzo is used to having a big personality in his life. He's okay. Being in the shadow. He doesn't need to walk in the room and be the loudest the biggest the most talked about lonzo's always fit, right? In lavar ball I've seen him when he's with Lonzo together. I've seen them is Lonzo sort of is in the shadow sort of obeys. Dad is very quiet listens to dad laughs with dad, but doesn't need to dominate the room. Lebron dominating figure in the room. Lebron dominates the ball dominates. The headlines is going to dominate. He's the most verbal player in the NBA and the floor is it possible? I know everybody wants to bang on lavar ball. But is it possible that Lonzo growing up with this outspoken loud, funny, personality driven dad, and he was in the shadow of it fits perfectly? Without agitation with a big global star. Verbal LeBron James. I don't know if this is true. But it seems to me that lonzo's grown up in an environment. He's cool with a shadow. He's cool that he's cool with it. And some of that comes from who we grow up with. So I think he personality wise really works with LeBron James five time all-star all-time great..

"But the one thing I said, I'm not sure I gotta watch. It got gotta watch it pan out Rondo or Lonzo who fits better with LeBron and LeBron can make them both work. But you'd prefer one's easier to play with. Well, we have an answer. Lonzo ball should be starting Lonzo ball. Now that Rondo and Rondo got nobody to blame. But Rondo Rondo gets into a fight Rondo is the agitator lonzo's more of a lubricate sugar lonzo's allowed to play now and getting more minutes why? Because once again, Rondo agitates gets into a fight and last night, twelve point seven, rebounds, six assists. One point the Lakers had thirty assess three turnovers lonzo's not a heavy turnover guy. He needs to start. And again Rondos got nobody to blame. But Rondo on this and the Lakers are playing intentionally fast because they don't have a bunch of shooters. They have a ton of depth. They had seventy six at half their style this year because of their limitations on shooting is play intentionally fast. I mean, they're just flying up and down the court. So if you're gonna fly up and down the court, and that's the style it's gonna work. And that's what magic things Luke thinks. Lebron thanks, rob Pelinka. Thanks. Everybody knows that we're deep. We're young. We're at let it we can run. We're not gonna win a shooting contest. If that's the style. We're gonna do lonzo's gotta be your guy because I just I was talking about this yesterday. I had lunch. Saturday, Daryl Maura Houston Rockets. I'm not gonna get into specific players, but we had this conversation at lunch, and it didn't include Lonzo or Rondo, but there's a lot of guys in the NBA. They over dribble over dribble over dribble over dribble. When there's an assist available. Then they do it because they want the assist now Rondos very much like that Rondo is dribbler dribbler dribbler dribbler drill. He'll pass up shots dribbler dribbler. He wants the assist he'll take the air out of the ball. Lonzo's not that kind of player, but Maury, and I were talking about this. There are a lot of NBA guards that end up with eight assists, and they're really selfish players. Not all assist totals of the same. Rondo has always been play big in the playoffs. Play big TV games. And I want the assist number. Lonzo doesn't give a rip and the Lakers. Four games this year. One thirty one forty one fifteen one nineteen they're gonna move the ball up and down the court, Lonzo fits better. And by the way, Lonzo now is stronger than last year and Lonzo is clearly a better shooter than last year, the two things we worry about Lonzo. My two knocks on them last year where he doesn't look like an NBA body. He looked like a college athlete print plan NBA basketball. He looks bigger. Now, he looks like he put on eight to ten pounds. He looked bigger and stronger. I always liked his lane. I always liked his vision. But I'm like he doesn't look like an NBA gardens. Look he does. Now. Secondly, I said you've got to get the shot. I don't care if he fixes it. He's just gotta hit more threes. And now he is here's a secret last night a sequence from who the Lakers should be starting alongside. Lebron Ronald quickly. It rhythm. Abroad three pointer for Lonzo. Lebron lobs. It looked good. This batch. Braun he sought two and one. Right wing. Tomahawk who's on the beautiful shovel. Rub Lonzo Lonzo ball style fits the style. The Lakers are going to play to succeed this year much better, by the way, they play much better team tonight, the Denver Nuggets so little honeymoon here on the w but they play the nuggets tonight a loaded team. And by the way, Russell Westbrook's team host Boston. They haven't won a game either. I could spend hours on that. But you know, Jay Glazer is around the corner with some inside NFL news and breaking NFL stuff. We'll get you up to date, and that we're still in the trade window. We're still very much the next five days in the NFL trade window, and these young GM's Trent Dilfer talked about this Peter King talked about this young GM's they're into trading, and they got five days left to do it until Tuesday at four. So we'll update you with Jay Glazer and some thoughts on Aaron Rodgers who has become a Twitter in the NFL as weird as that is to say, we'll explain..
"lonzo" Discussed on Skip and Shannon: Undisputed
"So my first thought yesterday was not about patients it was about is he trying to motivate Lonzo. Oh, because we know that you know, maybe he's trying to light a fire that didn't often get lit should have last year doing lonzo's rookie year or was he trying to get even with lavar by heaping praise on Lonzo and setting them up for failure this year? I don't know. I'm thinking that's really deepened ugly, like like a wicked dot? I don't. I can't see that. Was he trying to increase lonzo's trade value in case they do need to move him? I don't know between the line. Okay. Well, I'm just saying, I'm trying to see what's happening here, but in the end I walked away from this thinking, I believe that LeBron has that much respect for lonzo's gang because I think rare respects rare in Lonzo is no matter what you say about whether he's not transcendent. He has a gift. You can't teach or coach that LeBron has see it, feel it pass it before it even happens. Lonzo can do that. And again, if you look at across the. Board lonzo's contributions last year. He was the best defender on the Lakers last year. He led the team in steals. He led the team in rebounding for much of the year. He was second in blocked shots on the Lakers to the big guy. You know, like what more? The little big things you couldn't ask for much more from live. Right? I'd like to see the fire lit a little more often. And I do think LeBron will be great for Lonzo lighting as far I think Lonzo will feed off LeBron's greatness just just his because their games are similar except Lonzo can attack the basket or hasn't shown that he could attack the basket LeBron can. But remember, Lonzo ball is six feet seven inches tall, and it looked like he got in the gym. You can see it right there. He looks a lot better and he looked last year. He looks like he's got a little bit of thority that he can play with his body grew. He needed that grow along with. Well, that's funny. He ain't a small anymore. You need to go to me. That's fine too. So the point is in the problem with all this is I think. Ron was just being honest about he's coming. You've LeBron telling the truth to my something. Yeah, I believe he's telling the truth, but here's the problem with his truth. He is also raved about Rondos basketball IQ and basically said it's equal to mind. We can see it the same way, and I agree with faith can be true. Okay. I got you. But he's also raved about Brandon Ingram in his ceiling is his star power. The literally believe that that Lonzo have the potential that Brandon Ingram does. He does in his way he does. Their games are completely upside down different. But yeah, I think he can be at least as good as Brandon Ingram. But the point is, what do the Lakers coaching staff and Magic Johnson love about Brandon Ingram? What are they most infatuated with his ability to bring the ball up and initiate the offense as the point guard. And what have I told you all along Miami Cleveland now Los Angeles about LeBron James?.

"Okay. Cool. Wanna make sure everyone. No go eight ten on. So we're, we're talking about the kids and where they fit in with LeBron with this team as the Lakers are now finally a team with playoff expectations. And what I think is going to be most interesting. What just happened there. We don't know. Let's what's interesting. I k I'm not sure what happened. What what I think is interesting just about this is Lonzo is the guy that potentially could end up making LeBron's life. A lot easier lot easier, but. I'm messing with them in the background of I'm told him in the flip side is lonzo's also the guy that looks on paper depending on what what they doing being the most awkward fit? Yeah, I'll say one thing to to their. I'll say one thing about Lonzo Ryan. You tell me out of all the players that will benefit most off LeBron James come into the Lakers between all these young kids. Who do you think benefits most? Do you think it's Lonzo? Do you think it's cool? You think it's Brandon Ingram based on their game. Who do you think benefits the most off the brand being on the Lakers one Lonzo. To Ingram, three coups MMA even Kouzmin style that Stoller being a spot up shooter guy that can knock it down LeBron wanting to obviously dish as much as he does. You still rank them like that. There's a language that's spoken between Rondo between LeBron between Lonzo and its high q.. I'm playing basketball, three and four reads ahead. You playing checkers on playing chess. You know what I'm saying? I'm thinking about the guy weakside help in the skip and coming off the pickerel. He goes under our re twist. Then I go under and who am I in if they're in a switching like those guys are speaking different languages thinks of the game? Yes, that you can only learn from somebody else that speaks that because as a coach, I can show you on film, but I can't really show you on the floor. There's there's different things from playing with from playing against LeBron from playing with Rondo that I see, it's I q, it's it's, it's another level. It's a whole nother basketball narrowed. You'd love this alley like hold hold. Second, I say Ingram because he can look LeBron defensively and go, oh wow, I can fight through screens awhile. I run the lane that should be a dunk, like consumption else go to Ingram and go and you gotta finish that with dunk on the break. Other than LeBron, oh, you're like me. Somebody else who can go and dunk that player like now you got hit their corner three dog while because you're you're like me. I can hit that coronary. He's who Ingram wants to be LeBron of course there's a lot of guys wanna be, but he even more so coups Muth in a distant third, y coups MMA will shoot the ball better on the floor because he doesn't have to create as many shots for himself, but kouzmines pretty much made product. And I don't want to say that there's not upside k with him, but he has. He plays an old mature bat. He knows who the heck he is. I don't have to recreate Kuzina those two guys need a lot of help aka. I think they're actually particularly Brandon Ingram. I think he's the guy most quip to help LeBron right now, like I. I think branding room is the second best player on this team. I know you think he was at. I know you think it's, I just said he's going to. He's we've had. We've had this. I. You agree with me. But, but that's interesting. That's very distinct out of those three that you think. I like the reason why Lonzo will benefit the most of LeBron off LeBron because of their IT levels. I you on that same you on that same level with the with Lonzo Lonzo me is going to be really interesting because so much of this has to do with his ability.

"Nick, how do you see it working? What kind of impact do you think Rondo will have on Lonzo? I think his biggest impact is going to be interpersonal relationships on the team and impractical think Rondo is going to go at lonzo's throat in practice. And I say that in a good what Rondo is a new Torius competitor, whether it is playing connect four, which he considers himself the greatest connect four player in the world or whether it's on the basketball court. Now there are times where he is checked out on teams, but if he is bought in an engaged, we have seen his relentless competitive nature. I think that will be great for Lonzo ball on the practice court. And I think that's a huge reason they brought in rage on Rondo the other place that I think and people might be surprised to hear me say this that I think Rondo can be very help helpful with Lonzo is the relationship and dealing from Lonzo side of things with LeBron we know LeBron can be notoriously passive aggressive. We also know. Iran holds players to an incredibly high standard and LeBron does not have a long history in the last decade of playing with young guys. The best example I can think of since he's been a champion or becoming champion is with Mario Chalmers and the heat and charmers got it so bad. When they went to the White House President Obama joked about it like it was a running joke, hell, everything was Mario's fault. That can be tough on Lonzo ball, and we know lonzo's dad is going to be in his ear saying one thing Rondo being something of a calming force saying, listen, man, don't get down on yourself..

"Hello and welcome back to another episode of open floor i drew sharp and on the other line bengal or what's up man now too much he you are ready to do it i've thought about it i've made sure i've got speaking out of anger or frustration i really wade this i'm ready to go ahead and criticize our guy lonzo ball now inter out of i know in terms of the background though when we look at the overall podcast open floor as a whole we kind of have to seminal moment sowed the first moment was when we met in toronto you remember this i did and it was because i blew you off i feel bad about it i was glad that you cherish that memory got was warned seminal moment but i view the real beginning of the open floor podcast the real bond was that lebrun so game at summer league where you and i were sitting baseline watching lebrun watch lonzo alonzo's all over the core with his spacey passes the lakers are back the crowd sqoic wild it really felt like involvement it was actually already in the air that night no question don't you and i put that moment on a pedestal though like in terms of if if there was a hall of fame induction now would be the the first thing to go in on the first ballot so i don't come out lonzo unnecessarily or or thoughtlessly but here's the thing i'm sure every once caught up to speed in terms of what's happened maybe you can run through the full details you know rick carlisle as chiming in this that and the other thing but yes lonzo is a rookie yes lonzo has a very flat affect to him he's now trying to make headlines he's just trying to chill.

"The passing fancy lonzo ball by kevan artists the day after the lakers take lonzo ball with the second pick of june's draft lakers president magic johnson is holding court it's the usual news conference introducing a new prospect but this one projects a different tone this is johnson's first occasion as the star of the lakers next golden age the event takes place on the practice court at the teens old training facility the last relic of the kobe bryant era and it's here that johnson tells lonzo i'm going to put a little pressure on you right now magic points to the back of the gym where the uniforms of lakers legends his among them hang on the wall we expect a ball jersey hanging up there one day all right looking one part hostage one part valedictorian ball sits between johnson in lakers general manager rob pelinka who just the night before had declared lonzo a transcendent talent ball having foregone the traditional pressed sue in lieu of a black zip up big or brand hoodie crosses his arms on the dais as he receives these compliments passionately but respectfully as if he's in an hr session i ball replies with a faint smile johnson is here to introduce ball but what magic never a man to traffic an understatement has truly introduced are the lakers expectations lonzo ball will become a superstar part of the lakers lineage of hall of fame talents he will be a proper air to kobe bryant which johnson implicitly conveys the angelo russell was not around the nba there is an almost affectionate esteem for balls approached a basketball he is a 20yearold whose primary motivation in life is to find chances for teammates to score but went inside is are asked whether balkan meet the lakers.

"Hey listen i i don't even care above the other tim i'm all about the lake show i make no bones about it added i regret the purple ink doled here's mark when we talk about lonzo ball in how unselfish he is as far as distributing ball he definitely needs to work on a jump shot but my bigger question is do the lakers have the pieces to attract like 2 max contrast because i'm looking at has okay this summer is tom to take it to the next level of on if i'm the los angeles lakers lots of led new what were you and your purple and go the cash a in history to attract basically any player but the reality of it is who actually it's a realistic option i don't see lebron james going to play in los angeles in a rebuilding situation for a squad that has coups ma and brandon ingram at second and third best player so you look across the landscape would say who's gonna be a free agent paul george has already acknowledged that he loved the plan la boogie causes is going to be a free can you get here from new orleans possibly now that is able to happen then it's more legitimate i don't necessarily see that taking place to the point where for fis waning because in this scenario when you go to los angeles people look at you now to be the savior but the golden state warriors have four all star so if you're gonna knock them off if you're gonna knock the houston rockets are going gonna compete with the greatness of the san antonio spurs you're going to need multiple all stars and i just don't see that level of talent going to la unless the bronze he p3 and paul george is odd team up and say we gonna go play there but i think that's a long shot going back to the brandi jalen why does he need the plane cds deed best player in the nba clearly one of the best players of all time what is if he tells cleveland at the end of the season look cleveland give me x or i'm going here why does he even need to take time to plant seeds throughout the leak.

"This war the new york knicks with the number two overall pick the pressure to pick lonzo would not have been there and it's come to pressure acid i'm saying lake can supply because i'm blair biz this basketball the combination of business there is no party i'm going to say loud and clear there is nobody who knows basketball their look they're lonzo ball and say number two overall pick he's better than everybody else this coming after nobody would one on one day one on one on five i say one on one five as as i want i went to over live there were plenty i never said you don't want to know nobody people people thought he had a better effect on the bill but nobody thought that he was the second best overall talent in the draft who would be the secondbest player about the market which was okay so you're saying magic purposely didn't take the best available tell you there magic johnson believes in lonzo he believes in his upside what bajic is also about business to and that was the combination of basketball and business and that was the best the stitches magic didn't take the best overall player i disagree i think magic whatever other considerations wouldn't take the guy if he thought there was someone better to meanwhile step outscored lonza nineteen to dinata in the fourth and overtime the where's the only team without backtoback losses this season thank you molly week thirteen cake south tonight with washington at dallas but that's been overshadowed we what's been going on in new york for the first time since his rookie season in two thousand and four two time superbowl champion leonard manning took her up to the second team on tuesday the team bunched eli for gino smith yesterday manning was in charge of running the scouting as he gets ready for oakland giants coowner john mirror regrets how this whole situation of boarded and spoke on how the decision was made.

"When i look at those two numbers expectations lonzo ball had the better night now you're saying that's crazy john wall has been in this league eight years he still can't shoot he was ten in the fourth and over time he was a numberone pick john wall for moments in this game was barely engaged he was terrible late he's increasingly unreliable laden games although a marvellous talent when you look at those numbers you say to yourself lonzo really got worked lonzo is now averaging nine rebounds and nine assists a game he is already in the elite rebounder and in elite distributor in this league and the lakers points to assist ratio has improved her lonzo ball so he's improving the culture and lawn does team one listen lonzo ball is not gonna win at nineteen a lot of these statistics matchups he is a wildly inconsistent shooter but eight years into his career if lonzo balls giving you a oneforfive on threes in a onefor10 in the fourth and over time he will have failed you can just look at the raw stats john wall went seven for twenty two was awful late was disengaged early in his team a huge favorite lost so who had the bad night like i think lonzo ball is trending very nicely to jason kidd who couldn't shoot his first several years in the league lonzo is going to end up averaging about eleven twelve point to game 9 rebounds 9 assists and change culture that's fantastic when you consider expectations and by the way john wall's loved by the media last year i had him fourth in my mvp voting i thought he at his best here but what our expectations.
