"Yeah. Yeah yeah twenty and now thirty. I'm thirty nine. I'm like where's the book for the person i guess. I just wrote the book for the person that's really really frustrated by waiting to in all honesty. Do you feel that there is missing from christian culture and even maybe even church don't know where that has do you feel that there's this like missing aspect of where. Where are we for the people. I'm not gonna let you finish. The question asked. Because i've had an i love my church and i listened to a lot of other churches on podcast. You know so you know. I love getting encouraged with words of wisdom. But i just spill likely glaze over the singles like you know. It's a lot of sermons on you. Know families and marriages marriages strong and keeping that foundation. Great which. I'm sure if i'm married i would like to hear that but i think we're overlooking a lot of singles especially singles in their thirties. And you know this generation is eating married later and later and so yeah. It gets hard like i remember. There was a point where it's really hard for me to go to church because it was a whole. You know how they do sermons in like they do segments and it was like a month and a half long on just families and i was like. Wow yeah where do i fit in i by myself like like well. You know if you're not married. Just say this in the back of your mind when you are and i'm like that's also a false narrative because i mean i two if you wish to be married one day low i think you i hope that you are but also nothing's guaranteed for us like it's not like in the car you're not like oh i know because i'm chris i'm gonna get married one day that's just not a true statement and so how do you even stay content even with sometimes the world and even unfortunately the church telling you that you shouldn't be content because you're thirty eight and not married but how do you stay content there because i think god has given us a different message is that marriage is not going to complete you. A marriage not the ultimate goal. I don't believe that. I believe that marriage is not the ultimate goal in life. So what does that look like for you and those moments really glad that i am an athlete. Because an olympic medals not guaranteed. All my hard work could end up in a big fat zero. You know and being an olympic athlete has not brought me satisfaction. You know being olympian Is not completed my heart. You know the only moments who have why vote complete peace is where God old me. And i'm tapping into his word and his wisdom. And so that's where it's just. I could see that correlation between my athleticism in my faith has really helped me but yeah not guaranteed to get married not guaranteed to have family. It's really frustrating. Because you'll have that that advice me thrown at you. It's just like you'll have advice when you don't look for it you know.

"Or if you're chasing dreams that you're just trying to overcome obstacles that you've had what does it mean to be thankful in the midst being thankful in the midst of a storm storm or even looking back over your whole life. He had a hard childhood growing up. Where do you find thankfulness in that. Yes oh growing up in. Poverty was really topics to you know. My mom had five kids. My dad was in prison. We really had no money. I'll give an example. We never had it. We could barely afford a car in. He had a car. That always breakdown on us. And so i found that i would always have to walk to school. I walked to school walked to the grocery store. Walk everywhere. I was so tired of walking when i was growing up and so instead of walking i would run because it would take less time and i could sleep in and you know so i run and i just you know that was my child and little. Did i know that that being i hated the most running and walking school is the thing that turned out to be a blessing because it gave me a scholarship to go to lsu and then onto the olympic so it changed my whole trajectory. Not having a car thing. I hated the most and then here you. Are you know competing on the biggest stages in the world and you look back on that okay so after two thousand eight than we go on to two thousand twelve and where is that. Was that london london. And what did that look like for you. We'll london was a completely different pitcher than two thousand eight. So when i went into two thousand eight was number one hurdler in the world. I was running in crazy fast time. We'll before london had spine surgery a year out from the olympic games. So i'm watching the tv. And i'm watching world championships. And i'm like wait. Lord you want me to be the fastest run in the world. And i literally cannot walk right now in a hospital bed like how so just starting from ground zero. I remember going those olympic trials in just like all the commentators court reports. There's no way lolo. Jones has a chance to make this team absolutely no way entering into olympic trials with one of the slowest times but squeaked it out and got third. Got the last spot to go to to london in. I was so thrilled by that. And then i go to london and i get force so one spot shy of metal. What happens again. The press at is very great for my fourth place like wild like this. He's live surgery. Yeah i was so proud of that fourth. I crossed the line in ahead like peas. I was like all like yet not getting a medal. But outside i had peace had peace or those first step after crossing the line and then when i started going to the press in their dislike oh but fourth in my perspective starting to shift of bill into my teammates. We're talking about being in the press writing articles about me and then internet trolls were like you're such a you're such a failure in my perspective went in a very dark bitter place very quickly and then i if literally within the two hours that i ran the race to get back to village as struggled to do my praise and worship to god because i was so angry about getting so much piece on the track moments before so it's so crazy. I mean you even talk about. I read an article that was in sports illustrated. And you talk about how you even separate from like some. Ptsd coming home after this from what press has said and data about you why. What are your thoughts on like oppressed in the internet and social media because it can be a great thing and it can help us all out athletes and myself abbas show that i rely a lot on social media for but also going to be a beatdown. I mean people can say anything they want towards you and there's no accountability there just behind the screen. I think it's pretty cowardly. But how is that affected your mental health even on the past ten years It's tremendously abducted it in a negative ways and it's weird because in two thousand eight twitter had just started so it's really kind of non existent of this and i you know it was a when i finished my race it was done like no one was mocking or teasing me for hitting a hurdle. There were no memes about it. There were no jokes on the internet. Enin fast forward twenty twelve. Now you have twitter's been there for four years instruments. How in people are much more comfortable as saying negative things on social media. It was a drastic change in the reaction of meeting. More than when i hit the hurdle in it was like. She's a flop and she can never met all. And i think people have had years now where they're just comfortable saying whatever they want in the comfort of their home behind the computer screen and the really problem. There's been a lot of times where i've just really had a crowd god's help and just felt like there was like a an attack on me just because of social media so it's been quite difficult for sure. What do you think that like we as the world we as people who are consumers of social media. How do we make this different because when you hear from someone like you. Who's on the other side of it going. He has a real person over here like okay. That's funny that you can like make this name about me hitting the ninth hurdle a real person like what. Where's the disconnect between real people making fun of other real people. And which. I the answer that you saw the world's problems i don't have the answer to that but there have been times where people lake changed my day by writing nice messages. Or if there is a troll. They're having people that stood up for me in nuts. Been definitely very helpful. In you know basically i just have to rely on my faith a lot during that moment against is sometimes it comes in waves which is uncontrollable. Let's so true so true. You guys twenty. Twenty one is a new year..

She's currently training for the two thousand twenty two winter olympics which i have no idea how because of the way that the olympics went this summer. But it's right around the corner. Lolo also recently released a book called over it which is loaded with encouragement and overcoming failure and pursuing thankfulness. In fact lolo knows a lot about overcoming failure and we talk about this on the show today because in two thousand eight. When she was in the olympics she was set to win gold. She should have won gold but she's heard learn. You gotta get over all the hurdles and she hit the ninth turtle. She tells us this story today. And no matter if you are a track and field athletes are hurdler. Or you are just feeling down in the dumps for whatever. It is low hassle encouragement for us. Guys i don't know about you but maybe you're thinking you know what my kids are about to go back to school or maybe even you're about to go back to school yourself and you're thinking i would like to kind of dive into a bible study. Well we have a bible study available for you. It's called your story matters. We released this actually during cova and it's all online which was such a blessing early on in covert when everyone was very much quarantined to have something that you could log on and do together with friends over zoom and it was all on the internet. The bible studies called your story matters and it is a six week course on how your story can change the world and i hope that you feel that way when you listen to the happy hours we share stories especially like the story. We're gonna share today from lolo jones and about how her story is impacting. So many people around the world will. This is a six week. Course that confronts the lies that keeps so many of us from sharing our stories. Some of the lies that we talk about bobble city are. My story doesn't matter or the stories not mind completely to share. My story is not big enough or it's too much some of you might feel like i can't share my story because i'm in the messy middle of it often times we think people are gonna think less of me or no one's gonna understand you guys. I understand all of these lies. I've had all of these feelings and we.

"The spanish inquisition number. One your current careers all of your careers. Reality shows bobsled track. Athlete are all canceled. What job would you do. Can i be like a stay at home. Mom sure yeah. I love that. Are you gonna have some kids for that or just be a stay at home. Mom your dog i well. I'd hope to have kids but yeah that'd be great okay number two. What's the most scared you ever been. guess one time in a bobsled crash where i felt like my skin was earning. Ooh ouch number three. You could be the best at one thing for one day. What is it. I mean. I just an athlete at any olympics. Sometime i wanted to line on the day. I'm gonna go bobsled on the day of the competition in beijing. That's we're gonna to for nice. What current celebrity from music or tv sports politics would you most want to be your best friend. I don't know the rob seems pretty. Genuine genuine right. Yeah he seems cool. That'd be a good one also always good to have for backup at any given moment. Something goes wrong workout partner money so he could probably pay for all like activities or what. I always picks up the check yet for certain number. Five what's your biggest most meaningless. Pet peeve my pet peeve people who take really really long time to turn right onto like they're getting off the street and it's like a very slow Number six what's the most embarrassed you've ever been. I don't know i've Embarrassed i mean i don't know Have been many times barriers. I don't know the most time. Embarrassed have no clue. That's a hard one. I don't know easily embarrassed. I guess i do. I shake it off a fast in the moment. And then you're over it. Yeah there's none that is like standing staying with you for life when you like. Peed your pants and school or something. Now i i mean i guess it's i don't know if it's the most embarrassing but i i can remember like they were like hitting a hurdle before the race started in like. I had blood all over my knee trying to shake that off in race. Two seconds later like in you know the crowds lights up on. That was tough though. Now take over lease the two thousand eight race. I was like at the olympics. Finished the race. This one was like. Is this like i don't know it was just awkward ninety brutal brutal a number seven. What's the thing about yourself. You'd most like to improve. It'd be nice if i was more patient for sure on some things Calm person not patient con commerce in the awesome. But then i don't think people know personality then so yeah it's a two yard number eight any musician or band alive or dead can play your next party. Who is oh. I mean i feel like riana. But she hasn't put on music like five years so she just rock the old stuff though she the author number nine. What would you consider your biggest failure Wherever i say okay. So i guess i mean it's like could have been done with this whole big thing if i wanted. It's not about that though right. I mean it is about the metal but you still would have been competing if you'd one. Yeah maybe who knows. I don't know about now. I probably would. You might have been satisfied. Yeah probably like neighbor. Few years ago retired or something. Like maybe after after london or something but yeah so Number ten what three individual words would you most hope that people would use to describe you. Funny honest real. I mean that's the same as real yet in a dank interesting one. Were not a quitter. Not a quitter now. Yeah we'll get we'll get we'll give it to you as one word because i don't think there is a one specific word that means the opposite of quitter i guess winner or persevere. Those final question for you. Who should i have on this podcast. They can be from any background any industry. Who's just someone. I would find interesting to talk to. Oh speech. I mean michael. Phelps has been really open about like mental health and stuff lately. So and i think he's working on a book as well but see ya. Good good good idea. Actually because he might be doing some press for that he was really nice. Talking to you in my opinion means nothing but as someone who's gotten a lot of shit on social media keep your head up and feel free to to step away for long stretches. Those people don't deserve any time in your head and they're probably just very dissatisfied with their own lives and jealous of your success and so the way they make themselves feel better as to attack you. They don't honey actual power. Yeah true nice. People people who are happy people who are successful or not sitting on the internet being mean to other people they're trying to uplift people and bring them along with their success so i tend to feel sorry for them instead of being mad. I tend to think. I feel sad for you. That you're unhappy and unsuccessful and that this is what you have to do to make yourself feel better and then it makes me less sad about myself awesome. All right good luck will be keeping an eye out for you and hoping for your success janki so much for your time. That's what she said. Oh yeah one more thing so This is a place for rants and raves. Everything in between sometimes a story to read or something to listen to and this time it is a fantastic satirical piece on mcsweeney is called. Nobody wants to be a surf anymore. And i'll read you just a bit of the opening. It.

"Listen to flame bearers on apple podcasts. Spotify or every. Get your podcasts. So let's talk about the bobsled. You mentioned it again. You won the two woman bobsled world championships in february with your teammate. Kelly humphries who is a really successful bobsledder for the canadian team until there's a falling out with the federation. She is married to an american man and was able to petition and be put onto team. Usa so you guys earned a spot for the beijing olympics. Congratulations will you know. She earned a spot to spot. So you don't get it with her. Now i have to requalify position. So why is that. Because of her pre existing titles or effort they allow the pilots to qualify first and then once the pile pilots are qualified. Did make him focus on which brakeman that they will put with the pilots. So that's where we're in the process of now in two weeks. We will start competitions to kinda show. The pilots are strikes and then we'll start wrong geared up with them but yes she's qualified. I am not. I won't find out if i've made the olympic team until january. Oh my gosh. So you've got a long stretch ahead of you of training and working in competing. Do you have a you know a select number of athletes. That are kind of your biggest competition for that. we'll yeah we have to returning olympic medalists For that position and we have a slew of other girls. that will compete for a spot. So but it's anybody's game. I mean it's the olympics. The olympic year seen people who were really good lose their ads and then you know people come out of nowhere. So i'm just looking forward to stepping up and doing things in the sport i haven't done before. So what's an average day. Look like right now as you're training to start those big competitions to prove yourself right now i wake up probably like a have breakfast in an head to the ice house to push a like a bobsled on ice in weights in an treatment and Another workout issues is this Bobsled his life has like eat sleep. Train eat sleep train. Redo that it's it's really boring. Actually where are you training out of Currently right now in lake placid new york at the olympic training center is your dog It's low key right yeah. He's not here. He actually was cleared to be here but my sister was like just she basically stolen from me. So yeah. that's sounds like a story for another time When you do have some time off from the training are you. Are you been watching anything or do you like it to settle in at night and relax. i was binge-watching on because it's a they definitely filmed in europe somewhere rank vigil. It's like the door on net lips autumn. Not oughta say rank okay. I don't know it's. I have no clutter say but basically like thor as a teenager and his brother low key and all that but Right now only watching like good movies like really cheesy like bill. Good rom coms Because the more stressed out. I get because we have this big competition coming up. I like to watch less action movies and more just calm. I'm completely with you. I've been like that for the entirety of covet. I've just been watching either. Old shows that i used to love and i'm watching them again or like top chef project runway kind of things. Ted lasso all the fun stuff. Like i don't wanna watch anything too serious. There's enough of that. Even below deck is too stressful my binges but like it's too stressful because people fighting and stop my friend who used to work with me here at. Espn jemele hill was on below deck. She like she yes. She did a She did her bachelor party on the boat. And i was i was like i can't believe you made me watch full episodes of below deck just kind of made her look spicy though. That's it they tried and then at the end there were like never mind. I was like you couldn't find any drama. Because she's too awesome. They were like. Let's manufacture some drama with the penis cake. And then her being a diva and then they were like nice maker. looks fine. what that's been workout realities look spicy. I'm all for making look spicy but character assassination. Yeah i yeah. I i'm not a below deck personnels like i can't believe you made me made me watch that So when what is this big event. That's coming up so we can all keep our eye out for it as use a bobsled push championships. It's actually just in-house competition. I don't even know if they will stream it live But our season starts in around october And then i will be updating my social media on ways for people to watch bobsled competitions. I'm awesome and then the final announcement will come in january. And that's based on a collection of competitions. Correct that's hard to kazan. It's subjective it's not like. I put the best time oh trust i wrote. I wrote about that in my book. But i just basically said political like the last olympic team. I probably should have made but subjective So i mean i got. I had the The only girl to win a gold medal that year. The whole season had the best law cities. Second push championships. They pick someone who got third noble manual so yeah. It is very subjective so it does. It's like trying to make a sixteen. Yeah figure skating competition you know. Were they judged the points at the end so yeah during the Does the pilot get to choose their preferred partner. Yes they have a say so but they do not one hundred percent determine If someone's on the team so there's a whole selection committee of people that will go enable talk about it and to their luna face in impact the team well Good luck to you. I'm sure we're well not all of us. Some of us are haters but a lot of us are rooting for you to find success. And i think it'd be a great story and to your point. I think there's nothing that we should rally around more than someone who continues to face adversity and keeps trying keeps going after that dream Especially older folks right. We gotta we gotta root for the for the older athletes and not let it be all sixteen and eighteen year olds living living out the dream. Yeah it's really good you to take on a dino rossi old people have dreams to before let you go. I have to have you do the one thing that everybody does. Nobody expects inexperience. Spanish inquisition punishing physician. It's the spanish inquisition number. One your current careers all of your careers. Reality shows bobsled track..

"So social media has been the hardest waters to navigate. You were actually diagnosed with ptsd after the two thousand eight olympics. Because not only was it heartbreaking for you to be so close but then people's reactions to it and almost reveling in the pain that it caused you to try to reconcile that very close moment of of being the best not quite getting there And you talked about the hbo documentary. The weight of gold experiencing sort of passive suicidal thoughts. So not wanting to hurt yourself but maybe something bad might happen to you. You know the idea of of being one of the best ever at something and the difference between that one hurdle being being all the happiness you've sought and then this which is such a dark opposite. Are you able to try to find perspective there in the fact that that gold medal is not the actual journey itself. It's just a thing that you can point to on that journey. I think i found a ton of perspective. The problem is as i continue to get ripped apart for just my effort. And that's what i'm most proud about. Is our people. Call me a flop a failure You know a disrespected team usa. In if anything. I've stowed over my career if you mess up to get back up to keep fighting like most people only can make one olympic team and i've made three against the odds so i look back in. Okay i don't have an olympic medal but men dang proud of just my fight in my effort. But then you'll go on a you know an interview or check your social media and people are calling you flopped for doing something overcome extreme odds and so that's when it can get frustrated. You get so many attacks those per day it just can start to way down your spirits and so Then you start to like you know rethink things. What you start to relive things and it can be quite difficult you write in your book about that Or actually it was from your instagram. But you repeat it in your book. Everyone loses everyone comes up. Short winners are talented. But most winters are just losers. That never gave up. First of all. I love that concept because one of the things i talk about as an athlete and with other athletes is the idea that there are people who go through life who fail at something. And that's it they're done and if you're an athlete you get used to being denied not scoring the goal not winning the race and having to come right back and work just as hard if not harder to do it again. And that's a lesson for everybody in life to apply to everything and it's it's such a gift to athletes to learn that at a young age and be able to be perseverance in everything that you do. So you're right. It's not something to be critical of x. Reminds me of of tim. Tebow in the jaguars and him getting a shot. From urban meyer and i was critical of urban meyer and the people who decided to give him a spot when he hasn't been in the nfl for that long when he's never played the position. I was never critical of tim. Tebow who am i to tell someone to stop dreaming like this someone who wants to know for sure. They've put everything out there. They did everything they could. And then it was over and then when it's over you don't ever wonder what if it feels like to me. That's what you've been doing at every turn and that's admirable. Why appreciate that and yeah you're right. You're the first person and it's actually put the blame on urban meyer not zebari. When they found out the news directly started to attack him tibo. It's like the man's just trying to fight for his dream. He sees trying to finish how he wants to finish as much as he can. so absolutely agree with that. And that's essentially what what's happened over my career Is i've just been attacked for just trying like they're like you should retire at ease. You give it up. You're never going to happen. It's like don't you wanna see a happy knowledge don't you wouldn't that be like wouldn't that give you hope that you know one failure doesn't make you to doesn't break you three keep trying so But yeah but that's not what society lately society likes to trip on those failures so Yeah interesting take. We'll get right back to the interview but first what's your favorite word persistence. Persistence seems very fitting. With all the things we've been talking about today and your desire to stick with it. Fifteen forties when that first came around from the french and latin meaning steady or firm adherence to or a continuance in a state course of action or pursuit that's been entered upon great great word. Speak speaking a great words today. The word of the week is supercilious behaving or looking as one thinks. One is superior to others. Cooley or patronizing lee haughty haughtily disdainful or contemptuous as a person or a facial expression now that last bit matters. And it's why. I chose this word because i love the origin. It originated in the fifteen twenty s from the latin supercilious. Haughty arrogant from supercilious. I'm literally super above silly. Liam eyelid eyebrow supercilious eyebrow. Lake these sort of notion of raising the eyebrow to express your haughtiness that face. You make eyebrows up looking down your nose. You don't even know it but you probably just did that as you're listening to this. You just made that face right now. The eyebrows up sort of looking down your nose haughtily disdainfully. I just love super above. Silliest silly eyelid above the eyelid is your eyebrow and that description is what your face looks like when. You're being supercilious. So in a sentence. The supercilious maitre d' of shake key leveled a snooty no snotty gaze at ferris bueller questioning whether the young teen could really be frohmann the sausage king of chicago. Now let's get back to the interview. You've always been very outspoken. Obviously the topic of your virginity and your faith becomes a big talking point in the media. That's both positive and negative depending on the person writing or talking about it How much do you think that. I mean you keep coming back to the idea of the negativity around you and i know that a lot of that social media but it's also stories that are written that are take a totally different tone than a lot of what we see for other olympians. How much you think that that negative vity stems from you not speaking in cliches not saying what people wanna hear and also being so open about something like virginity that some people think is either fake or fraudulent door. Tmi or any number things yeah. Yeah so that. I've thought about that. It's so you know. They want athletes to different outspoken. They wanna get to know us in a moment. We do like you know so. Then there's the athletes you know there are athletes out there that say the boring things that just you know. They post on their instagram. And they're just gonna use a quote from someone you know general quote the calendar of hanging from a tree hang in there with the atmos- that don't host and they don't get criticized those as much as a person who's just them so it is a balanced like i know by posted and trying to be as real honest with people that it's definitely gonna open me up to more criticism and so once sometimes when it just gets overwhelming. I just. I'd have to take a break because you know it will shut me down completely. Sometimes so you have talked in the past about the criticism of getting fourth in twenty twelve of getting so close and not feeling supported in that effort and it's resulted in u continuing to push to compete. So you know you wanna come back you find and discover The bobsled might be a chance for you and you've actually talked about what we all hoped. Which was you were watching. Cool runnings and you're like. Hey this could be good. Which i just love that..

"What point when you were a kid. Did you realize that you were special. When it came to to be in an athlete it wasn't actually until was in college that i knew that i was kind of union in high school. It started to get there. But because i grew up in des moines iowa it's not really the track mecca most of the Like d. one colleges were recruiting from california texas or florida. And so i was kind of under the radar name. When i went to lsu who they have so many national titles in track and field and i was able to kind of hang with those girls wins and national titles on my own. I was like okay. Why might have a chance at this kind of olympic thing. Yeah i mean like you know. Pretty pretty legit. Eleven all american honors while l. issues. So you're hanging with them for sure do you. By the way speaking of that. I was watching that. Lsu hype video right after the nfl announcement in your featured in there lot of the great now them. Yeah it's a really. I mean it's really well done and lsu. They're really trying to let people know if you come here. You're going to be able to make some coin. Do you look back and think damn i. I was really marketable in college. I have had a ton of sponsorships like the local sign shop in the and rolling. Then i was just talking about that to someone but unfortunately there was no social social media when ali so i honestly would not have been able to capitalize off of it like now. They have college student athletes. They're coming out with a million followers on off before they even you know graduate so he can get huge endorsements in off of ads just based on that alone but there was no social media design college. Oh probably wouldn't have. Benefited me up as much as degeneration. Now yeah for sure. So you thrive at lsu and you find yourself to be You know in the position to win at the beijing. Twenty two thousand eight summer olympics. We all remember watching and rooting for you had become star before the olympics as we often find some of these favorites beforehand. That get lots of publicity and excitement around it and we're all settled into. Watch your seconds away from winning gold you clip the last hurdle and this is a pivotal moment for your life. Not just as an athlete and being a former hurdler myself. That is about the nightmare. One of my best friends in high school. My teammate was a favourite in every single one every race gets to the state meet and same thing clips the last hurdle breaks her foot has to do all the rehab before she even get started at duke and it's a terrible feeling that little inch or less than an inch is the difference in winning the race but instead of instead of just being empathetic which one would imagine you to be as someone that america was getting behind. You started out being america's sweetheart and someone people felt sorry for but then you often talk about how much you were ridiculed for that for not being able to achieve and get that gold. Yeah are you able to explain that. I don't understand that. I absolutely slanted so two thousand. A was the beginning of twitter. So is just starting. It was like a baby and people really didn't know how to navigate the social media. It was barely out there Social media wasn't in existence Essentially there was no instagram in two thousand eight so When i competed people saw me on. Tv and your grant granted. I handled that situation with about as much a grace's god could give me and america fell in love with me will..

"Welcomed. That's what she said. Was sarah spain a podcast about well. Whatever the hell i want. Actors and musicians athletes comedians. Neuroscientist wine experts. If i find somebody interesting. I'm bringing them to you. We'll talk about how they became. They are how they found success. That'll failures and how they ended up here talking to me. High on the la- jones and i am a thirty eight year old virgin. Try to fix that. Look well because you're saving yourself for marriage so what i actually wouldn't be fixing virginity. I have a pretty quick fix for that. I would be fixing the marriage part to get rid of the virginity. Yes pretty much said the virginity. That's wildly easy to fix like just walk outside and walk up to pretty much any eve heterosexual male of a reasonably appropriate age. You'll be good like you're damn olympia with the body. That don't quit. You could be selective about who you approach hottest student. The whole damn place still going to happen for you. I almost guarantee it. But i know it's not that simple because you know we gotta find your soul mate. I which is significantly more difficult than just finding someone to spend some quality adult time with. You know what i'm saying chelsea handler was on this. Podcast she also requested a man for dilemma and last checked with her by looking at her instagram. I didn't call her anything. Sadly the last i checked chelsea handler is still single and also has a body. That don't quit like aside aside here really quick people if you're not following chelsea handler on instagram first of all. She is hilarious and smart and funny. But this whole body she will go skiing downhill skiing to celebrate her birthday topless smoking. A doobie with a drink in hand. Nothing moves just props saying for the hard work. Because i know she puts in hard work. She post with her trainer. She looks amazing anyway. Maybe i should date chelsea handler okay. So i've failed chelsea thus far. Because i have not yet found her a man but now that i've got to gorgeous successful women looking for love. I gotta get back out on there. I gotta get the batch making back in action gentleman. If you're listening if you or someone you know is a fine upstanding successful good looking smart. You know worthy person for a lolo jones or a chelsea handler. Shoot your shot slide until those. Dm's respectfully please save the creepy pictures please. And let's get on this. I'm gonna take this social media. Lolo we're gonna find you soulmate. I'd love to happen like a real meet cute at the at the beijing olympics next year. You know you're pushing your bobsled. You look out in the crowd. See someone with dazzling is the catches you go see him after the race. Like this making a movie about this all right. I'm on it. I'm on it. And that's what she said. I'm super excited for you. Guys to listen to this podcast and low really interesting and fascinating person to study. Because of such a interesting unique life that she's led from the poverty and difficulties of her use to her incredible athleticism and how that's been received and digested and spit back out by american people for a variety of reasons her virginity and faith but something that i thought of as as we were talking was it made me sad how much she's been affected by other people's opinions for and there's no judgment in that sadness it's incredibly human and i want you to think about as you're listening to this wildly successful incredibly beautiful charming funny smart person talk about how down she's gotten because of how other people have made her feel about her inability to to reach the highest echelon rate. She's been to multiple olympics in two different sports and because she hasn't been able to get that elusive medal because she was so close to that gold and hit that last hurdle she instead becomes ridicule for people or people who watch reality shows. Don't get what goes on behind the scenes and choose to go on social media and then attack. I want you to think about that because think about all the other people that are out. That are not multi olympians who are gorgeous and perfect bodies and everything else who hurt really badly when you ridicule them when your heart on them when you say things to them when you respond even just to throw throwaway comments with cruelty just remember that because as you listened to lolo. She has every reason in the world to be able to shrug it off and look at herself and say i'm good and she can't always and that's human and if we don't recognize that in even you know incredible specimens like her. Then we really should should recognize their everyday people around you that you might not be doing right by With the way you interact on social media. I think you guys will will pick that up as you. Listen to this If you're not familiar lolo. Jones hurdler bobsledder She won three. Nc double a title. She has eleven all american honors when she was at lsu a. She was the favourite to win the hurdles at the two thousand eight beijing olympics. She tripped on the second to last one and ended up in seventh. She also went to the two thousand fourteen winter olympics in the bobsled. She's one of the few athletes in the world who has competed in both the summer and winter. She just won. The two women bobsled world championship. This february and is trying to earn a spot on the team for next year's beijing winter olympics She's also been on. A bunch of reality shows dancing with the stars big brother. Mtv's the challenge and she has a new book about to come out. I think it actually comes out today as this pot is hitting over it how to face life's hurdles with grit hustle and grace. We talked about her growing up in poverty. What she learned from her parents reconciliation after her. Dad's time in prison. How she's dealing still with the fallout for missing out on gold in two thousand eight. Why she keeps doing the reality show appearances. Why even talking about her time on. Mtv's the challenge. This past year makes her emotional wyatt so important to her to feel like she never quits. And you know why at this age nearing forty and after all she's been through she's still pushing for that. One last shot to meddle in beijing. Really great conversation. Hope you guys like it..

"Yeah i mean there. Were some things where i saw totally totally healed from that process that we're good and then when you dive back into those memories and you're reliving that there's you know there's still some weeds that you have to pull. And so that was. I think very interesting about the writing process also Moments where. I thought i completely lost all the work i had edited on google about like you know i feel like i'm back in college when you're working on a paper and like either your computer just bombed out or something like that. It was a day where i literally thought i lost the whole book so is it was an interesting journey. Thank god for the auto save right. I mean i can remember going in college and like all of a sudden lost the disc or something happened and you would just lose your entire paper. You would just lose your mind. I mean just absolutely is your mind overall. Obviously sakari richardson. It was a crazy story And i think are just. She earns so much respect to my mind for the way that she kind of stood up in handled. This what. what did you make of that decision in kind just a fall out of all of it. Well i actually really love. She carry because she went to lsu. I went to lsu. I've seen her on the track many times so You know. I thought she handled it with a just great poise for her age. Love that she owned up to what had happened It's it's really frustrating. Everything bad that's going to happen from this like she won't compete at the olympics. He lost his spot. But i think if we focused now on the fact that she was so much attention on this rule Obviously outdated all that needs to be changed And i think it's because of her like gonna be a big change in That category especially for next year. So it's really frustrating to see but She i mean who knew like look how many people are talking about track and field Right now because of that you know like It's just you know she's so young and talented. I know that she's going to go on to. Just you incredible things in our sport. It's amazing lolo. Because as frustrating as it might be she may end up having a bigger impact on track and just athletics and just in that conversation as a whole more so than in had everything quote unquote worked out the way he was supposed to mike. My last question for you lillo Name image and likeness is very interesting. A lot of people especially on this show of always looked at it through the prism of college football players. But how might this help. Female athletes whether it be tracker gymnastics and softball whatnot. I think it's a huge. I mean there is a an lsu gymnastics athlete that has over a million followers on kicked off so joe boroughs. Yeah so As huge. I mean she can start making thousands of dollars already in college She wouldn't because. I mean those videos say time effort talent. You know so I'm excited for this. This rule change. I think it's going to be very helpful to some of these. Female athletes I think it's Gonna really help balance out the pay gap that has put a lot of More focus on like nfl or football and basketball. I think we can now start seeing more of those like olympic sports. That are maybe not seen as much because now Companies will be sponsoring those athletes in as well promoting them. So i'm really excited about this ruling Last question quickly Do you have a tick-tock account. I'm not on it. You have one okay. I is it. I'm forty two years old and someone told me you know. Hey with the sec. Stuff and football and stuff. I should get one forty two years. Old is too old to have a tic tac right or no no. It's not like there's there's grandmothers out. There that are like going viral on grandma even got two kids under force there. It is all right I'm gonna do it. And it'll be a horrible disaster or if i take all viral i'll just say lolo jones told me how to get over it into buffets all by hurdles and there it is. I could trend of the books called over it how to face. Life's hurdles with grit. Also in grace. Lolo thank you so much for your time and in really kind of the positivity in in the storytelling too ain't you having me there. It is very lolo jones You heard it never to old grandma's going viral on a on on tick-tock but again just i that story. My goodness you know shoplifting. At an early age is to eat at night. And then you know. Father's in jail doesn't matter. I'm going to get out pulled herself. Our bootstraps becomes an incredible athlete. Over at lsu and three time olympian. I mean just awesome. The books gonna be out here in a couple of days and you can pretty get it everywhere. Barnes and noble amazon online. "That's i mean. Exactly kind of how you did in your life So i use every olympic failure As motivation to just either break a record or do something unique whether it was you know getting force in london olympics and it was like the fastest olympic race ever in the history of bill olympics. Which meant i would've gone. I would think medalist to this day at any olympics with that one. Why use that failure to go to a winter olympics and one of the few americans have competed in the summer and winter games so just always trying to use those things to propel me forward and not break me down. What's so interesting about it. Lolo is is the fact that we know you is a olympian in both winter. And summer in. You've become just a a great spokesperson your lsu great but there had to be those moments prior that in your story is a incredibly fascinating just from an early age. I mean take me through lolo jones at eight nine ten years old. Those formative years. What what what was in your life. It wasn't just know puppies and rainbows no so It was you know. I know clue that i would ever end up being on the athlete or even traveling the world. We were so poor that you know. I was shoplifting in elementary school. Just to to have enough food so it was a really tough upbringing. My dad was in and out of prison throughout my childhood. We were home with at one point. So my focus was just to try to get out of poverty and You know i started running track And i found. I was good at it And i was like okay. Well maybe i can get a scholarship. This and be the first one in my family to go to college and get out of the cycle of poverty and so I talked about that in my book. Just how it all started. Just you know coming from basically rock bottom to just now. People know me as the successful athlete but There were still much to overcome along the way the books called over it how to face life's hurdles with grit hustle and grayson's coming out here in a couple of days and look what was what was that one moment. Was there ever a one moment. That kind of chris allies in your mind to where it was make or break like you know i could have packed it in and this was the lowest part that that you that you overcame. Well there are so many moments like that. You know i could have Packet in after you know. I just You go into lsu and they recruited some of the best hurdlers in the country. And i had to fight for my spot. Every day so that i wouldn't leave my scholarship or the first time i tried to be an olympic athlete. And i i did not even make the final so i tried to the olympic thing. Maybe it's just not for me. So i mean i've fallen flat on my face time and time again And it's just trying to get that motivation and energy after you have none like after everything's been ripped away that that's been the hardest thing throughout my career because when you have a devastating law it's just crazy. How empty your motivation tank gets and so by sharing my stories. I wanted to try to just encourage other people To use those failure to use those setbacks and what i've learned over the course of my career and lolo jones. Joining us here on the paul. Finebaum show peter burns in today enlow. There's so many people over the last. My gosh goodness last year and a half that have had to deal with so much in so many trials and tribulations and you talk about that like how you refill that tank of want it. Is there a strategy that you used was it a mental aspect of it. Was it any any kind of tips that that really kind of helped crystallize that for you. I use our use it all. There were times where. I had to dig into the mental side. There were times where i had to dig into the physical time physical side. There were times where. I literally had to uproot everything. So i think you can't use the tool set with Different problems and you have to keep evolving and changing and growing and so Over the course of all these years and all these different setbacks. I've had to throw a different Solutions each one Adapt or die. So essentially that's what i did and It's just funny too. Because most people credit success to an olympian by having an olympic medal. And you know i. I'm a big reader. I love reading books for motivation. And as i was reading books to get it gather motivation. I was like. Where's the book about the person that's still in the fight because usually that's where you lose your energy and so that's why i wrote. This book is to give people who are feeling hopeless who are feeling frustrated and coming up short in their goals. I wrote this book for them. Like hey on this fight on on the other side of this. I'm not like hey. I wrote this after winning the olympic like no. This is what i've learned in the battle. And i'm still in it. So what did what did you learn about yourself specifically throughout the process of writing a book. Because you know you're going back in your memory bank in thinking about how all of these things kind of transformed you into this incredible athlete. This is dc. Our seat. i'm daniel corny. "Burdens, a new HBO documentary premiering tonight takes on the stories that we don't often hear about when it comes to Olympic athletes. Sure, its all up close and personal when the game's run is we have come to expect, But there's a dark side about what happens when the quest doesn't end necessarily with a medal around one's neck. A weight of gold is a far cry from the typical athlete profile packages we often see during the Olympics. So much of it starts when their kids yes. You know young kids and being taken to the pool or the ice rink or wherever. And this just deals with ones who actually make it to the games from the seven. So when Joey did his big interview in the house, he talked a lot about Lolo Jones how he was frightened by Lolo Jones Lolo header rough weekend in the house. Erica. Let's let's talk a little bit about Lolo. This is a question from liquid eight D on Twitter. The maker of the great BB viewer says if Lolo goes crazy on someone in the big brother house, but the feeds are down. Did it really happen? It's very zen question. I don't know brothers celebrity tells me tonight. Yes. But but then the conversations we hear implies that it may have. So it's a very tricky situation. I have dated several lows in my day. Whoa. People who do not like to be wrong. Get angry when they are wrong. Acts like victims when they are wrong real tough guy picking Dina in the veto competition. The go ahead to head with classic bully syndrome from Lolo. And if you push back against a bully normally the bully sort of collapses under that, I would love love to see the Lolo Jones dating show. Yeah. Well, that's a great great point Eric because leads us to our next question from a com Nellie, what are your thoughts on having low low as the next bachelorette? Now, I know you just got done watching the bachelor could Lolo work at the center of a dating show. This is too good to pass up. Somebody get ABC on the horn. She was on dancing with the stars. Sometimes they go back Schiller dancing with the stars. Why can't we go dancing with the stars to bachelor? She's had such iconic runs on the challenge. Dancing with the stars. Big brothers came out of it looking so good on all them smelling like roses. I can't she hand out the roses. And we know ABC loves a good virgin as they're Li. Yes, they let us know that hint system, and how great would it be to just see her berating thirty main or tires with love it or you're much more acquainted with the bachelor franchise than I am the the bachelorette typically fight with the men are we missing a lot of conflict here by putting lo low at the center of all this where the men are vying for her isn't the better opportunity to have Lolo Jones as one of the women competing for said bachelor. Yeah, that would meet tradit-. Wisdom, positively. But these shows have been on for, you know, fifteen twenty years now, we need to have the next innovation in the show. Why not have the person who's fighting with everyone be at the center of all of it? Even better that ways you can just fight with them in one by one. She eliminates them you piece of you know, what you are adding sure no room for you. You lying misogynistic son of a gun. It would be amazing like Natalie even Maria is like her like site advisor, Ryan's can Sigli area or something be providing. Okay, then Eric another Lolo question. J F says with all this fighting negativity going on both sides inside the house and outside the house. How do you keep continuing to feed the positive? Eric. Well, I you gotta let go of the negative thing. That's the key part of all this. And the great news is last night. We had someone who shows us what it looks like. And how great your career could be. If you just literally stay crushing it for five six decades. So we do have people to look up to. But I do agree things have gone a little negative, and we always want to be seeding, the positive you're at the winner Stein. So I think what may be good is if we were to find a positively charity and forget the badminton match. I can't so that all right?.

"Vote for low. I personally, I think Lolo is high here. I really don't know if he would vote Lolo, I really feel like like watching back what she was saying on the episodes talking to Jonathan and Marissa, and I really I don't see it. I know I could see that especially. Yeah. Like, you guys were talking about with the Marissa tweets, and the fact that she's hanging out with Jonathan and I'm sure Jonathan shocking Ryan, maybe they're hanging out together. Who knows I could see a lot of influence coming from Marissa, and Jonathan and this one, and I just feel like I feel like I could see him feeling betrayed by Lolo. So I I don't know if he would vote for her. I mean, maybe if it came down to something, but I don't know. I don't really see it. And I don't even see it. As like would Ryan be bitter. I don't think Ryan is bitter. But I think now I think that when he talks to Jonathan Jonathan's going to be like, it's not about being bitter. It's about the fact that she's played terribly that she shouldn't be doing these things. That's poor game play. And you know, I think that that's going to really shine through with somebody like with like Ryan and Jonathan. So I do think that Lolo is a bit high here. She is followed by Tom. According to these writings, Tom, again, a maybe a little bit high here, maybe a little bit of people like, Tom, they hope that he'll get some votes. I don't know. Yeah. My top three for this would have been a besides Joey also Cato a Natalie because I feel like he's going to have some respect for Kato who made the move happen. You know, there was no bitter feelings towards Cato think as he went out. And I think Natalie is somebody who said in his exit interviews or maybe like right away that he was saying he thought she was playing well unless I missed remembering..

"Update schedule. You thought leader was here to update you. But actually, she was never really updated all along. We just needed the headlines of leader is going to. Off things, and then I just exit out of this tariff by himself. Yeah. But but before you do that you give us a challenge to complete. Yes. The leader update where everybody has to update wearing cat ears and doing their impression of me. And I heard you off to Switzerland. That's true. Oh, yes. I say all of that on Instagram. Everybody thought I went to Switzerland last year, but I was really going this year. Well, we are here to the everything that happened on the live feeds yesterday and there was quite an outage yesterday. So you have to be a little bit, you know, prepared for that. However, there's still a decent amount update here. So the the feeds were down for most of the day nine hours for no particular good reason, there were some crazy rumors about as well, but we'll get into it. All we started the day with Lolo and taymor. And I guess unsurprisingly Tae mar was pretty upset about what had happened the night before. Which is that low low Natalie and Ricky stay up really late together. Just chatting mostly about damar and how they could handle her. And the potential that she might get nominated by Kato. And so was asking what was that about? Where were you guys talking about? I feel kind of left out. I feel like not happy about this. And Lolo was just like, I don't know. Maybe it was too early in the morning for her. But Lola was just not having it. No. I mean this so quickly on both of their parts because Lolo is talking about how DNA is just upset that that she was left out of the Jonathan vote and KMart as like, well, she's lying because she did know about the Jonathan vote and Lillard just starts the sentence. Like, well, if she is lying and bars like us, lying, and they start just like yelling at each other expected for these Timour dislike. Don't ever get into an argument about whether or not somebody is lying because she is very convinced about her ideas of line. But also like in her defense Lolo is no insomnia section either Lolo just loses. It just like, she's maybe maybe it's the stress of trying to handle tame taymor for this long. But I mean, we've seen her lose it with Tamar before these two together is just not a great combination. And so basically what happens is that? Taymor one point just as all right? If I if I'm hearing anymore this if if you call me anything again, if you call me any names again, then I'm going to start yanking. Yeah. The b word is specifically mentioned she's kind of dairy her to call him. It'd be word. Yes. And so low low says yanking, then do it and Tim are says then say it and Lolo says, then do it. To says..

"So tame our goes down DNA is going to end up dropping next making it a lot further than I anticipated. And I think a lot of people were pretty impressed with what she was doing. And then the the final four it came down to Joey Lolo Hato and Natalie I think I was certainly expecting Joey low low and Natalie to do well in this competition did not expect cater to make it this far. Yeah. Completely agree. I think denying Kato were really the two stand outs for me not just because of their. Age. But also because they're going up against you know, a guy who tells Olympic athletes how to work out. So obviously, we know he's fit and Olympic athlete herself. And then not who obviously isn't a wrestler and in great shape herself. So I was not expecting this boot order for sure. Yes, Lolo is going to end up dropping next. Surprisingly and leaving it down to Joey Kato and Natalie at this point Kato is trying to get Joey off the wall Kato is trying to offer Joey deals and Dana who is upset with Kato in particular because she was close with him. Did not know he was going to vote against Jonathan or at least at the very least is mad that he voted against Jonathan and didn't really talk about it is like well, Joey was with Jonathan Dina's just feeling very trae. She's the sole vote to to keep Jonathan. She's feeling very upset. Dna is like no, Joey don't accept the deal. Stay on that wall. And Kato is like, whoa. All right. I see what's happening here. I get it. Okay. Kato is not happy with Dina's interference here. No. And and this is something that is is really important because it influences decisions are made later on. But I say quickly that Lolo did drop because she was worried about injuring her shoulder, which I totally get because she is that's literally her profession is to take care of her body into perform also, I will give her that credit. I thought she had it until she mentioned that she had had soldiers shoulder surgery at one point which is why she Joey is eventually going to use a similar excuse. Yes. So so yes, so Joey. Well, it's weird. Because I it sounded for the brief moment that he accepted the deal. But then said, okay, but I'm gonna see how long I go, which then I don't think really. I really appreciate what you're saying. Kato? I like it. I'm good. This is good. I like the deal you're going to keep me safe. I'm just gonna keep going for a little while though. See how long I can make it. But yes, I agree. Agree with your deal. And then like a couple minutes later. He slipped and fell. So I mean, in my opinion, the deal doesn't count..

"You sent apparently your shoes smell so bad or that your your feet smell so bad that one time you hooked up with somebody and you left your shoes on because. Take them off because it was also that why are you leaving this part of the story? Pants ugly. Flats I don't remember. Oh. Embarrass you. No, one time, my mom too. Because like, you know, like when go Sierra, I'll take my shoes off, and like, you know, the kind of stank she gets really mad, and she's like, how do you have sex? Wow. Mom, you need socks girl. Get some socks in your life. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah powder. Just socks socks is a good start. We don't need this. Now, we need to take care of the problem. Problem. It's deeper than that. Steeper than we're socks. A deep. I really think it's like just a me thing. It's nice to everybody. If you don't wear socks. Do you think? You think you avoid genetic stink bombs inside your body that go. They just they just go out from time to time sometimes, but I will say I've worn like loafers before. And I don't know like drivers didn't have socks on the middle. To get a pedicure or whatever. And I like the lady will pour the water, and I like immediately like. Move the feed into the water like almost. Hey, what's that on TV? I don't want there to be like any moment ever going. Oh my God. Lolo on. Vans. No show socks that. We're vans every day. Those are fine. But the kind that.
