From wonder media network, I'm Jenny Kaplan, and this is this month we're highlighting ragers, women who use their anger, often righteous though not always, to accomplish extraordinary things. Today we're talking about a Puerto Rican nationalist whose radical approach turned her into the island's symbol for independence. Let's talk about Lolita LeBron. Rebellion was instilled in Dolores LeBron Sotomayor from birth. She was born on November 19th, 1919, in the small town of Lara's Puerto Rico, just 50 years after El Greco de lauras, the first major uprising against Spanish rule. As a child, Lolita's family was very poor. She was more concerned with surviving than with politics. That changed on palm Sunday 1937. The Puerto Rican nationalist party had organized a peaceful march in the city of Ponce to commemorate the abolition of slavery. The event turned violent when police began shooting, killing 17 people and leaving 200 wounded. It was the largest massacre in Puerto Rican history, and it left a mark on Lolita. A few years later, Lolita got married and had a daughter. But soon after, she left her family in Puerto Rico for a better life in America. Lolita was one of thousands of Puerto Ricans entering the labor force in New York City in the 1940s. And she began to see that the better life she'd hoped for was just a dream. She would often see signs in front of stores that read, no blacks, no dogs, no Puerto Ricans. Sick of the anti Latino racism, Lolita joined the Puerto Rican nationalist party. Lolita was inspired by the party's work, especially the ideals of the president, Pedro albizu campos. Lolita became an active party member rising in the ranks as a delegate of New York. But as the Puerto Rican nationalist party's efforts ramped up, so did American suppression of the movement. In 1948, Lele de la mordaza or the gag law was signed. Suddenly, it was a crime to own or display a Puerto Rican flag. Sing a patriotic tune, speak or write of independence or hold any assembly in favor of Puerto Rican independence. The citizens of Puerto Rico were disgusted by the new law, and several uprisings took place across the island. Despite their outrage, in 1952, Puerto Rico was officially named a Commonwealth of the United States. Two years later, on March 1st, 1954, Lolita LeBron and three other Puerto Rican nationalists took a train from New York to Washington, D.C.. The group entered the United States Capitol and sat in the visitor's gallery, while representatives engaged in talks below. Then, suddenly, Lolita stood up and screamed. Viva Puerto Rico libre, and unfurled the Puerto Rican flag. The rest of the group then pulled out guns and they all began shooting. A total of 30 shots were fired. Lolita's shots ing towards the ceiling. 5 U.S. representatives were wounded in the attack, and the Puerto Rican nationalists were arrested. During her arrest, Lolita shouted, I did not come to kill anyone, I came to die for Puerto Rico. During Lolita's trial, she restated that she did not intend to harm anyone, and that she was being crucified for the freedom of her country. Nevertheless, all four involved were found guilty of conspiracy and for trying to overthrow the government. Lolita was sentenced to 50 years in prison. During that time, she refused to apply for parole, because she didn't want to apologize for her actions. After serving 25 years in prison, Lolita LeBron and the surviving men were pardoned by president Jimmy Carter and released. Following her release, Lolita moved back to Puerto Rico. She continued to fight for Puerto Rican independence for the rest of her life. But this time, renouncing violence is a tactic. Alita is a polarizing figure in Puerto Rican culture. Some view her as a folk hero, while others call her a terrorist. People agree that her influence carries through to the modern day independence efforts. Even though the island's future remains unclear. On August 1st, 2010, bolita lebrun died in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She was 90 years old. All month we're talking about rangers. Caregivers: Returning orca Lolita to Northwest is risky
"A plan announced last week to return a killer whale held captive for more than a half century to her home waters in Washington's puget sound as generated joy and concern. I Norman hall. Lolita of 57 year old orca also known as toki has spent more than a half century in captivity at the Miami seaquarium. The plan for her release pleases advocates who want to see the 5000 pound creature in the open ocean, not in an 80 by 35 foot tank, but her potential freedom brings to mind the release of Keiko, the star of the movie free Willy, Howard Garrett of the orca network says Keiko's return wasn't handled properly. They decided that they would turn their backs on him and force him if he wants any company at all to go out and find some whale companions. Keiko much younger than Tolkien died 5 years later. 52 years after capture, orca Lolita may return to Pacific
"An unlikely coalition has a plan to return Lolita, also known as toki and orca that has lived in captivity at Miami seaquarium for more than 50 years to her home waters in the Pacific Northwest. It could take 6 to 9 months or even longer to move the 57 year old 5000 pound orca closer to where it's believed her mother still swims. The aquarium CEO Eduardo albor says his daughter told him Lolita needs to move. I feel so bad. I have to go around with cry. The honor of the Indianapolis Colts, Jim irsay, says this is very close to his heart. I know Lolita wants to get to free waters. I don't care what anyone says, she wants she's lived this long to have this opportunity. Charles vinick with Friends of toki says moving toki Lolita is worth the $20 million price. That's all that matters. I'm Ed Donahue

Blue Buffalo reached the huge settlement over claims that its products were free of poultry byproducts and did not contain wheat soy artificial colors and flavors or preservatives. Now, laboratory testing, on the other hand, did show that Blue Buffalo did contain byproducts, which then led to charges of mislabeling and of course false advertising and big class action lawsuit. Blue Buffalo has denied any wrongdoing, though, it blames a former supplier for the issue, but said it settled the lawsuit not to admit anything but in order to avoid further litigation expense. There's a cat in Norway that proves towing a sled is not a job for only a dog. You see, if you have not seen this viral video, you would know because it shows two year old Jasper the cat, pulling his owner on a sled along a mountainside trail. But after being towed for a while, his mom is pretty cool. She puts jesper on her shoulder where he sits on downhill parts of the trail, so she doesn't run over him with your skis. But in typical cat fashion, you know, he is a cat. If the pretty orange boy does not feel like being a sled cat that day, he just flat out refuses, sits there, looks at his mom and then jumps into her backpack and sits there in the backpack with that happy smile like I won. And then he gets the day off, of course. Jasper is quite a guy and adventurer guy, and he has his own Facebook page, and he's very entertaining and all of his followers keep up with him on Facebook there with his adventures. How do you pronounce your last name, deus? Dallas. Well, how you doing? I'm good. Thank you. How are you? Very good. Now you're sitting inside a bathtub. Is that correct? Sure. How many days have you been doing this? Today is day 17. I am doing it for 30 days a lot. I'm sorry, is that Australian or that New Zealand accent I'm having a hard time how many days? 30 days will lap in today is day 17. Today is day 17. Okay. Now why are you doing this? It's to bring more awareness to cetaceans and captivity and mainly the later who's been held kept it might be secret in for nearly 46 years. So now let me translate for those Lolita who's a killer whale there at the Miami sea aquarium and that's where you are, right? Okay, she's been in captivity for 46 years. Did you say? It would be 46 years in August. Wow. How big is the tank that she lives in? I'm not too sure of the exact dimensions I just know that it doesn't make up regulations. It's too small. Okay. Are you getting a lot of attention? Yes. Yeah, I am getting a lot of attention. Most of it is good, which is pleasant. There's a few, you know, I think that you should stay with CES, but they're just, they don't realize who they're actually like a really good sanctuary plan for her. So I think we want to just dump her in the wild, but she want to put her into a safe P and and have to retrain how to hunt for herself and things again. Okay. How long do they live? Does she have a long life left? Yeah, well there's actually an all career out there who names granny and she's about a 102 years old. Wow. The latest mother is still out there and she's about 86 years old. Wow. And the latest the oldest living worker in captivity at the moment. So she's still, you know, she's probably on the middle age, so she'd still have a really good life ahead of her in the wild. So was she there as a baby? Yeah, she was captured when she was about four years old. So she probably doesn't know any different though, does she? No, the orcas they have a really good brain capacity. It's about 5 times the size of ours. And she was played his family's vocals recently like a few years ago and she's still reacted towards them and so she remembers the vocals. Wow, they can understand. So you're sitting in a bathtub to show that, you know, you're in a confined small space. This is not normal. Is there water in the tub? No, no, there's no water. You know what are in your bathtub? No. I would say you'd be a proof. I bet you wish there was some cool water in there when it's hot. Oh yeah. But you'd be all pruney now anyway. You're from New Zealand. Is that correct? Is that where you live right now? Yes, yes, I do. So what made this particular killer whale make you come all the way to Miami to do this? Because once I read about his story and watched the latest slave to entertainment, it was just, you know, she's been there for so long and such a really good viable plan for her to be released. And her mother's still there, it would just make the best happy ending for her. And you know, a lot of the other ones, all those SeaWorld in a search prices are still just as horrific. This one, she's been brought herself since the last technic killed himself. And so it's too small. She can't even die. She's got no shelter from the sun. And to me, she's in there with conditions. So I really wanted to help her and sitting at home signing petitions and following court cases and demonstrations wasn't making me feel like I was really doing anything for her. So that's what I actually need to do something physically. So I came up with the idea to get over here and spend 30 days on the top. Do you think it's going to make a difference? I don't know if it'll make a difference. I'd like to think so, but at least I know that I've tried for her and I would never be thinking, well, what if I did this? What if I'd sit there always know that I did something? What do you normally do for a living? I went for an a line. I back at home and I'm also a man. I have a T cell. So I'm pretty busy. What are your kids think of this? And he's two years old. So he's quite a good age to be doing this where he won't remember mom disappeared for him.

"Within just two months of its launch last November. It took Instagram two and a half years to reach that number. Users can type in a prompt and quickly get whatever they asked for written by artificial intelligence and it didn't take long for students to give it a try. I teach freshman English at a local university and three of my students turned in chatbot written papers this past week. I spent my entire weekend trying to confirm that there were chat bot written, then trying to figure out I'm going to confront them, how I'm going to turn them in as plagiarists, which is what they are, and how I'm going to penalize their grade. This is not pleasant and it's not a good temptation. These young men's academic careers now hang in the balance because they've been caught cheating. Thanks for that message, Kate. We continue our series today, know it all, one a and wired's guide to AI. We have partnered with the digitally focused news outlet, and today we'll talk about artificial intelligence in the classroom. Later in the hour we'll hear from a student at Princeton University whose peers enthusiastically embraced chat GPT, so he developed an app to detect when AI wrote a piece of text. But first, let's get the basics with PSR. She's a senior digital producer at wired Hai pia. Hi, thanks so much for having me. Great to have you. And Lolita vasudev David, sorry about that Lolita. She's a Professor of technology and education at Columbia University's teacher college also the college's vice dean for digital innovation. Lalita, thanks so much for being with us. Thanks so much for having me on. So it's incredible how much students are already using chat, GPT. How is it appearing in classrooms? That is such a great question. So I guess just a little bit of a background on chachi PT and how it works. I think we'll give us a better understanding of how students have been adopting it. I think what makes chachi PT so distinctive compared to its predecessors is that the interface is more accessible than ever compared to, for example, GPT-3. So truly any one with an Internet access and an email address could theoretically access this tool, which is what we're focused on here in this conversation on education, any child with an email address could easily use this tool. And right now, unfortunately, we are seeing some cases of students who are using chachi PT in the case here in this voicemail for to plagiarize for their papers, but we're also seeing, and this is more the focus of the story that I was working on for wired, some teachers trying to proactively discuss chat GBT and even incorporate it in some of their lessons. Yeah, we got a tweet from Damien, who says, as a professor, I've been devising multiple assignments that are meant to teach students how to use an assess GPT type tools in their work so they can get a hands on understanding of the limitations and implications of the technology. We'll definitely be talking about that today. But lalita Chad GPT itself is quite new, but AI is not new. How long have you been thinking about AI and the ways it might be used or maybe banned in the classroom? Yeah, thank you for that. And I really appreciate what pia just said about just how accessible this particular tool is. But AI has been increasingly creeping into the education sphere for a while now. And, you know, my colleagues and I had teachers college were in the technology and education program have spent a lot of time really thinking about what automation means for various aspects of teaching and I think we collectively take the approach that automation is not about supplanting the role of the educator or the teaching and learning relationship. But when you have districts like New York City who relies on Google Classroom to help support students learning to provide opportunities for students not just to be able to navigate these different tools, but also to create increased access for students for all students enrolled in the district. And this is the question we have around the use of AI technology. So I think people have been using various forms of AI in increased uses of virtual reality, augmented reality to really help kind of build out simulations when other forms of access were not available. We see the use of various AI tools to assist with some basic assessment. Now, there's a spectrum here. We don't want to necessarily outsource everything to artificial intelligence tools. But like pia mentioned, there are teachers who are trying to be thoughtful about how can the existing tools support the kinds of teaching that I'm trying to do in the classroom, which is different when you're talking about assessments or an analysis than it is when you're trying to teach someone how to write, right? So let's explain exactly the difference between, say, plagiarizing Wikipedia, which is quite easy to detect and chat GPT. You spoke with Kelly Gibson, an English teacher who includes The Great Gatsby in her curriculum, and she asks her students to write a 300 word essay on what the green light symbolizes in the great gaps. So Gatsby. So one a producer Chris Remington asked chat GPT to do the assignment form. In F Scott Fitzgerald's novel, The Great Gatsby, the green light is a powerful symbol that recurs throughout the story. The green light is first introduced in chapter one as a distant, yet visible Beacon across the water visible from the end of daisy and Tom's dock. The light represents hope dreams and aspirations, but it also has a deeper meaning. The green light represents Gatsby's unattainable dream of being with daisy. Gatsby sees daisy as the epitome of everything he desires and the green light represents his hope of one day winning her over. Gatsby believes that the past can be recreated and that he can relive his former romance with daisy. I mean, that's not brilliant writing but holy cow, that's close. Look, I have a surprising number of friends who are professors and teachers. They're freaked out. They are very concerned that students are just going to submit essays written by chat GPT. Is that a reasonable fear? I think that that is a totally valid first response. And the teacher that I spoke with for this story, Kelly Gibson, that was her response as well. I think that it's important to recognize and validate the experiences and feelings of teachers and professors right now, especially coming out of the tumult that was emergency remote learning in 2020. I think a lot of what I've heard from teachers is not just a direct response to Chad GPT, but just continued exhaustion built up from the shutdowns of March 2020. So I absolutely hear teachers who are feeling fearful or just tired because it wasn't too long ago that technology somewhat similarly upended their lives and their practices. On the other hand, I feel like panic volatility response is a one node alarm bells kind of response and it might be some teacher see it an invitation to instead step back and ask, well, if a chatbot could answer a question like what does the green light symbolize in The Great Gatsby was that a question worth asking my students anyway? Why is it a question? That students that could actually demonstrate understanding. PSR is getting spicy. She's a senior digital producer at wired also with me is lalita vaso davin.

Jeffrey Epstein's 'Suicide' Was Anything But
"Remember back in the, I want to make sure I get my years right. I think this all happened in 2019 if I'm not mistaken. And I remember it was August or September 2019. If I'm remembering correctly. And Jeffrey Epstein was arrested. And Jeffrey Epstein was arrested. And a friend of mine, who remain nameless, who's very well sourced in the Intel community. He's been on our show before. I'll just give you that little heads up. I'll give you that little tease. We text often and he said Charlie urgent call me. So I picked up the phone and I spoke to him and said, hey, what's up? And he's like, I got 5 things. He was always on top of the ball and head of the game. And he said, Charlie, they're going to kill Epstein. I said, what are you talking about, man? I don't even. Is that the guy that's the pedophile with the young girls? I didn't know that much about him. I vaguely knew a little bit about the Lolita express in the island and but it was still a little bit of a foreign concept. And he said, no, no, I got sources. They're going to take out Epstein. I was like, all right, man, sure. What do you want me to do? He says, you got to tell Trump. You got to get him in a maximum security. You got to get Secret Service protection. It was like this whole thing. You got to deploy the agents that he is the nexus that he is the linchpin that if you are able to isolate and get a little bit of what Epstein knows, you could take down his words the entire cabal. And I kind of, and I'll be very honest, I was naive. I rolled my eyes. I was like, all right, man. Sure. And our team can tell me what the gap is between the arrest and the murder or the suicide, as we're supposed to believe. But everything that he predicted came true. And not only if I just add one more detail, he said they're going to make it look like he killed himself. Now, whether or not this person that I spoke to on the phone that was very well sourced and is what very well sourced. And by the way, he's been right about dozens of things as he's come on our program. He was right on things on Afghanistan. He was right on many different things. He was arrested on July 6th, 2019. And he died on August 10th, 2019. So about a 5 week gap, which makes sense. That means that the ruling class and the elite started to get very nervous and they started to put plans in place.

Man, brothers really like nigga. I'm telling you, you got shit, talk a cat off the back of a fish truck. You just gotta be a smooth talking motherfucker they like that. So I'm gonna get the pennies moist a little bit. Yeah. Drifting. You can say some dumb shit in there. Quivering. You know what I'm saying that's how it goes about like you aren't in that shit from old niggas about 'cause it's like shit. That's my old niggas be part of her, you know what I'm saying? You know, you do, bro, they do. For real. Everything fly with their niggas, bro off the hip, and you'd be like, what the fuck? And then you would try, it sound creepy when they say it, but if you try, it actually won't sound creepy. You're like, oh, that bitch actually lights out. What's his name arie spears? He's like, it's all about your accent when you say something 'cause we can say something in American action like damn bitch, that aspect. Can I get some of that? Compared to Australia, man saying, oh, can I get you? Like, oh, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, that shit makes sense. That makes sense. It's all about. Yeah, that's very true. All right. All right. All right. Boy. Oh no. Nigga, what the, there was this girl in my job. She's from fucking Wisconsin or something like that. Oh, she said they'd be saying, not Wisconsin, Minnesota. They be saying ufa. Like regularly. And it just means like, oops. Gosh, that sounds like some shit you hear on seeing them. Oh God. What the bro I'm literally sitting in a zoom calling is like 5 of us and it's like three of them from Minnesota and this means other girls. She's from fucking North Carolina. We just hearing them say this shit back and forth. Yeah, they sound like four nos. This is funny. That really sounds hilarious. I wish I could hear that. Yeah. Well, anyways, man, we gonna bring this thing to an end and I wanna bring some more stuff to the floor. I think we should bring another Reddit segment just before we go. Yeah, one more time 'cause we've been going for a long time. We might push this whole to an hour. All right, so let's see. What time is it? Are you tired? Me too. Found out the guy I asked out is trans. Oh, no, go into that one. She found out the guys she asked on his train. His team Dave Chappelle over here. It's a girl too. Yeah. Well, honestly, I guess we're gonna have to figure out what she means by that. Tune in. Sure, you wanna touch this one? Do you want to go to this? No, should we keep looking? Yeah, I wanna touch this. That sounds funny as fuck. Like, I wanna know what you do. I got some advice. All right, so here we go. Ask the guy out, he told me strands. I'm nervous about screwing up at our date tomorrow. That's a too long didn't read. Yeah. I thought she was dating and then found out. She interested in the trans boyfriend 29 mad at me, 22 over sexual acts. The boyfriend is about at the girl. All right, so last week, my boyfriend and I tried anal sex for the first time, I'll admit, I'm not a 100% into the idea. We did lots of prep and use a lot of lube and it hurt so bad..

"Like that. That's when you go away. Take care of somebody. Yeah, that is. But I'm trying to, I'm really just not asked this though. Good. What about my nigga Bill Cosby, though, bro? Bro, I feel like if you got raped or you know what I'm saying something done to you and you knew it and you held on to that for so many years, it shouldn't be valid no more. You get what I'm saying? Yeah. But I'm not saying that it was right still neither. Right. But I'm not saying the nigga did it. Right. I'm not saying he did it either. Definitely since he got out of jail for it, but this is what I want to say. This is what I will say. Something about the media that I've learned recently is the reason I think I can't exactly say Bill Cosby was out raping with me. Okay. So very good. This shitty heart. Just slamming. Just slam it. Share it with the muscles at the gym. All right, Derek. Well, yeah, this is what I'm saying. Now that I've been engaged and I understand that the media really don't be getting the whole thing right most of the time. So it's like really, until that shit go to trial, I don't know what the fuck happened with Bill Cosby and then girls, but as far as I know, he a free nigga. Honestly. Put the Bill Cosby show back home, bro, we sick of that shit. Man, I feel like, bro, fuck fuck, even if he wasn't, man, it's a gang loud enough of us out here that we know. Right. I took the child that we know did the shit did was proven innocent. You feel me like it's on some witch hunt shit. As a people, we gotta we gotta know what's right and what's fucking wrong like nigga this nigga messing with kids or this nigga's throwing bezels and bitches drinks. More like any good though people are too ignorant. They don't want to know. They're just into their life that is their own way. Isn't a good life either, honestly. It's that Internet mom mentality, bro, they want to be a part of the mob. They want a shit on this nigga, we ain't all used to watch this nigga when we were kids and shit like he ain't fat Albert. I heard it. She was about to buy a major network. I was just like, man damn, every time I'm starting to think about some of your way here. What are you saying? What is it like PBS or CB one? Yeah, it was one of them. One of them channels you give a free when you ain't got cable. And every market here. He was about to be big balling. Then they could say, hold up. I bet Oprah. Nigga too far. Black people we like that Oprah probably didn't let that happen, bro. She's probably seen that in that. She probably said that nigga. Honest to God, yes. I bet it is some hierarchy shit like that where it's like nigga he can get the network. Think about it go back to The Oprah. All right, wait, wait, wait. Explain The Oprah. No, I'm just saying that 'cause Oprah's so powerful as far as like they're with them people, but like she like nah, I can't another nigga. Like that. You feel what I'm saying? So shit like nah. Nah, I'm a sabotage, but that's just being funny. You know what I'm saying? One back to that Epstein nigga, I was talking about, though. Right. You feel me like, bro, that nigga, he didn't hang his self bro so you bro yeah. He definitely did that shit. People whose believing that are fucking crazy, bro this is about to expose everybody. Nick, you gotta deal. If the mafia, if the mafia the people that supposedly, you know, the government's supposed to be the top nigga, right? Right? Yeah. So to us on the streets, it's like I call it the regime, but it's like a mafia. It is a mafia. You feel it is, bro yeah. I think regular niggas can get people touched in the penitentiary. What make you think the government can't make some shit look like I asked? Oh, yeah. Nigga, or look like it, he did that shit. This is where I always. This is what I think. Always just happened, so why the fuck? I think that these people who we think are in charge are just a smokescreen. If the actual people who are out there doing it, we won't even be able to know their names. Unless this girl just lay Maxwell lets it out. But I think there's, I just think there's bigger players who we just don't even know, probably with more money that just stay off the radar because you don't have to be on the radar with your bread and your everything you doing. One of the guys that's in the black book or whatever with pictures and stories is that that royal guy, what's his name? That one in England, the British parliament dude. Yeah. I forgot his name, but that guy he even had an interview with the dude had one of the worst interviews ever. You could tell his fucking lying. Yeah, and they was like, he was like, red. They had a picture of this nigga. One of his parties. And they're like, you don't remember this? Show them the pictures line. They still don't remember. The fuck nigga. You was there with them little girls and you wanna remember because he was probably fucked up drugs. Think of how high, yeah. Yeah, they think about how high they can get. The niggas got bread. Oh yeah, they sky high. They come in and throwing kilos to everybody in this world. Oh, hell yeah, nigga you remember that shit. Come on. Does that feel Gates? Yeah. Now that I'm Bill Gates says, the niggas the president niggas is the one to claim. Other than that, that's the one. But you know what I hate that I did to myself Andrew? You know what I hate the idea to myself? What? I always told myself growing up in school 'cause I hated school bro you know what I'm saying? When I get out of school, I'm never gonna think hard again. And I stuck to that shit. Everybody got so fucking dumb, bro bro be happy to sharpen myself up, bro that was a dumb issue shit I could ever do. I forgot a lot of math. Hell, yeah. Everything. That is true, bro I didn't realize this, but that's it reverse back to this book I read. It's called the four agreements. I ain't trying to be nerdy of a shit about it, but it talks about that. You make these inner agreements with yourself that you don't even realize that you're never gonna let go, like that one, like, you know, I'm never thinking hard again when I leave. And it's like some of you subconsciously thought about that you really, that you took action, I don't know, I'm probably saying too much. But that's what the whole book is about. It's crazy as fuck. Wow. Damn. Bro so that's where it gets into my neighbor conspiracy bro I don't even want to, we gotta bring this to the floor and that's only 'cause my boy.

"What is that? It was a dog. All right, good. I'm confused bro 'cause like what is that? 'cause it's y'all in love so he got a wife. You got a wife, bro are you saying it's Friends with benefits? No, bitch that's cheat in life with you. Yeah, what the fuck she did put it down like that. She's like, yeah, we're pretty confident. She made a PG-13 instead of X, right? It's just like fuck buddy. Like we look like sometimes. Yeah, 'cause for real, she did leave us confused 'cause now I don't really know what they got. If he has a 12 year relationship as long as their 14 month friend Friends with benefit relationships. Because I'm like, how do I know how you can juggle that with a 12 year relationship? As a whole, we a group of no, no, they're not friends. She wants to reach out on social media or something. She wants to go deep. What would you what would you do? Yeah. I would love to hear you want me to say yeah. Yeah, go ahead, go ahead, go ahead. Damn. You're not gonna, you're not gonna get up. Oh, my bad. Shit, damn. Okay. Yeah. Go ahead. So put yourself in it, put yourself in the shoes because you honestly, if you want to, you don't have to you might be in a situation like this. You don't even know. So just say. All right, so let's say you are that woman who is on the side who've been talking to this dude for about 12 months. All right, y'all been, but let's just say stupid. For the sake of putting the situation together for us and she didn't feel an all the clues, let's say. Let's say y'all on the road to a path to where you think y'all basically dating, you know what I'm saying? What do you think that they would date if it's Friends with benefits? I'm just thinking you can't have a Friends with benefit for 12 months. 12 months is two damn long for Friends with benefits. That should probably is. Now you could be you could be on and off with a Friends for benefits for like years. I can see that, but 12 consecutive months, I don't know. 14 months. All right, 14 months. That makes it even worse. That's even more of a commitment. But go ahead, go ahead and tell you, like I said, so y'all been doing her situation. So y'all been at it for 14 months, all right, you think, as a matter of fact, at this point in your relationship, you know, this nigga might be the one. You get home, you just got from the gym. Oh, I'm thinking about him. You get online. You know, Instagram. See you normal shit that you like, double click double click. Congratulations. And somehow this shit that made it to your feet. You got the picture of them together. What are you doing at that moment? Thing, let's go. As soon as I see the picture. So first you calling your girlfriend, right? No, as soon as I see the picture. Yes. First thing for me. It's a good information for me. Hey, listen. Hey, if my wife listening, she know, no. I'm gonna kill him. I'm gonna go to the fucking crib. Okay. I'm just kidding I'm just kidding. I actually am very caring person, so I would probably be very sad. At the same time, I would still kill him. It would. But truthfully so after 14 months I honestly wouldn't to all the other female. I really wouldn't. Okay. But him one of those because I feel like, you know, in that situation, the tacos on my mind. Hey, get into it. You're in your shit. You and your bag, get in your bag. Okay, I'm trying to be. You're making me laugh. You said you wouldn't tell the other woman because. Personally. I'm listening. I'm listening. He really is. I just think that if you approach another female and you know, tell them, then you're making yourself look. Stupid. Kinda just like desperate. Like, you're stooping to the, I don't really know how to explain it, but it's almost like there's no reward. You know, just say fuck it and just, you know, kill them. Nah, that was good. That was good. I would thanks for tuning in with taste. She says she says girl aye. So if you were subscribed to the tone stone deaf girl, you need to, you need to kill that nigga. Kill that. 12 years is too damn long. All right, but now we go, as a matter of fact, speaking of some weird shit in 12 years and 14 years, we about to move into some other weird shit that involves 12 years and 14 years. So we move into the digital Maxwell case. It started this week. You know about that. You know about that day. Only me. Only me and Harvey know about it. All right, so let me tell y'all, I'm gonna break it down for y'all because it's best that we got somebody who actually don't know so we can break it down for them 'cause it don't matter, really. Okay, you got it. I'll tell you a little bit if you want to interject in point more, you go here. So listen, there was this. There was this, there was this powerful man. Let's just say that he had a lot of money. Allegedly, he was out handing off in fucking himself. 12 year olds and 14, 16 year old girls. But he was also taking these girls to an island and having other people other powerful businessman also come get they nut off. And then girls. Oh, this is ignorant. No, this fucked up. Honestly, guys. First of all, first of all, if you fuck children, if you fuck children as a grown old adult, you're disgusting in your slime ball. But I was reading the stories about initiate was so diabolical nasty bro this nigga with finding these little girls found one girl was like, it was like, all right, him and the girl, they fucked her together. So that's who was on case, 'cause he committed suicide. Who's this dude again? Jeffrey Epstein. Okay, I was about to hear I heard about him. Yeah. So anyways, they found they found one girl. One younger older girl, I think she was like 1516 and they're like, well, hey, man, you think you can go get some of your friends to come here and give me a massage and then I'll pay them and then push this out as well. I know it's fucked up. But anyway, so she was going back. This nigga basically had this bitch going back and recruiting younger girls and shit. And then coming back and giving this nigga a massage. And then, yeah, so anyways, this nigga killed himself before he could even go to trial, but the girl just laying Maxwell. They just call her like a year. How long ago would they catch her? Like a year and a half ago, maybe two years ago. No, she was hot. No, they still got her. And she started a trial. Yeah, they got her. But they said they can't handle cameras in the trial and shit like that so come on. Yeah, the judge..

"It's something you might not board me right there before I know. But yeah, he left in the dead of the night, said peace out, girl scout. Andy lost on that L bro he left an an L and then he's like, oh yeah, I'm gonna move to. I'm gonna move my whole family in one night and pretends that it only happened that night. He probably snitched on somebody. He didn't protect the custody. All right, so what do you say to the okay state fans who says, man, he was just chasing his dream, chasing that bag. You should always go chase that bag. You know, sense of loyalty. He already got handed the bag. He probably could have gotten near that amount if he just asked. How big of a bag do you need money? When does the bad lawyer out here anymore? For real? Somebody y'all know this loyal. He planned the game like it's meant to be played if we going according to the rules and out. Well, not as a coach. I'm talking about in general. Hell yeah, fuck y'all being cry babies about me. Nigga, I'm gonna have a bag of you. But then he lies about it though. He lies about how these nigga did some big ass niggas like jumping in the locker room with her. Come on. He's a friend. He's afraid of a fight. He controlled him wild niggas. Bro, come on. Bro, you done? You didn't see the defensive players on OU's team, bro. I know he wasn't scared of him. He might have been scared of the O line. But, I mean, think about this. If you are the head director of USC, so you just hired Lincoln Riley. Yeah. How can you even trust this nigga? If you were a disconnect for the NFL in three years, but people don't understand. It's nigga ain't that good he didn't do too good it oh you. Exactly. You have to go to UFC and do it. Be ass. Thank you. Honestly, I'm calling it, too. He's not going to do that well. No, but he's going to be trashed, bro, I already know. Well, I mean, they division his trash, but even all he has to be at is organ. Anyways, when you get a kudos Lincoln Riley, 'cause you really fucked up. The reason nigga like me heard is because you did it the wrong way. Just like KD bro if Katy would have been like, you know, man, I tried my best, even though I would have went against that. But I'm saying you getting the kudos 'cause fuck you. You got like a bitch. You did like you were afraid. You were afraid of the media scrutiny. Go ahead. When you be saying kudos, what's up? You know that Kendrick Lamar song and she'd be like, kudos, you got the women. Kudos. No. We gotta get that. We got a good call. Wait, we don't cut nothing. Like we said we were the first print baby not the carbon copy. You know what I'm saying? A matter of fact, we gonna be going ahead and moving in, so we got like I said, we got special guests in the building. It's my brother locos. But you know, it's like this time of the day when we like to give some advice out to the young audience and we like to you know what I mean? Just let these young boys know how they can how they can stay equipped and stay on their mentor. You know what I'm saying? I would laugh right because I really felt. A little lost. So we've been going to relationship advice on Reddit. And then we look for some crazy ass story, and then we give our two cents advice. Random numbers and calling them. You actually, you actually can't put them off on the pie on here, but they got his phone. Yeah, or you could connect to the Bluetooth and get the phonebook. We ain't doing that shit. We can't do that live. All right, let's see. I am knowing we became the other woman should I tell his wife? Taylor, get on the mic once Bailey. All right. Holly to the stand one time. All right. Floor is yours. Wait about what? But let me get your question? Let me point out the story real quick. This girl with a married man, should he tell the wife? I'm sorry. A girl with a married man, should he tell the wife? Of course. I'll do it hang on, a girl with the married man. Should he tell the wife? They've been having sexual relations, of course. That's like his mistress. Wow. Thinking about it. No, I guess I don't understand. Yeah. All right, so here's the story. So this girl goes, I got to know some guy that's married. Okay. On an online dating platform. So he married on an online dating platform with you. And they basically became Friends with benefits and I've been hooking up. For like 14 months. Damn. And then she did some shit. That's some social media so I can find out that he's been in a relationship for the past 12 years. Oh, fuck, she didn't know that. And it was actually married a few months ago. Before we married a couple months before they started talking. No, no, no. They fucked for 14 months. He got married while they were fucking a couple months prior, but he was in a 12 year relationship during that. Wow. So should he or should she tell the wife? The wife, okay. So should she I'm gonna tell her right now, they don't even matter if she tells the wife. She's gonna be like, yeah, I'm sure you're not the only one. And then now she's just gonna look stupid. You don't care. He's been doing it for years, you know. I'm here for the long haul. I'm here for the long haul. 'cause honestly, if they've been together for 12 years, I'm just speculating, but they may have kids together. I'm sure they got some kind of foundation. That's hard. Yeah, what would you do? You got ready to fight these meetings now. You would think after 14 months she had some loyalty. He was mad. Yeah. That's fucked up. What you doing Jose? Man, I am not telling her that. I mean, why ruin her having like that? So do you think she should keep hooking up with them? No, no, no. Completely cut it off and tell the guy, yeah, you should tell her I found out piece of shit. And then just let him do it, but if you just go ahead and do that, you're like, you're basically like, I read. You know you're hurting this girl like majorly. I think if she doesn't know, I think there's some factors in this. Now, we don't know what kind of man it says. First of all, what kind of men can juggle a 12 year relationship as long as the 12 month relationship? Yeah. I mean, they were just Friends with benefits. I guess they never really got deep. What the fuck does that mean to a woman that's in a relationship with this nigga? You got her like a crazy beautiful. How often can't wait and how often do you see a Friends with benefits for 12 years? I mean for 12 months. If you got a wife..

You can get it in Africa first. It's in stores in Africa first, but it's coming to you soon. It's coming to you soon in America. So what are we going to do about the Omni car today? Nothing. Notice things. All right, do you feel kinda fucked up if you got the vaccine? Since we all vaccinated, since we all vest. I ain't vaccinated. I was smart enough. I don't do that. When they did sponsor one of our episodes, so we fuck with the facts, but yeah. Yeah, I'm vaccinated. Yeah, but see, now we fucked up because the vaccine that we were sponsored by ain't gonna be able to fight the Omni car and so we gonna need it. Put that on a shirt. Hell yeah, well look at this. Get that on a coffee mug and sell it to teachers. Look, we really ain't got a whole lot to say about the Omni car. Just because it's like fucking money nigga, we gonna be announcing the new one next week. We gonna be announcing the new one and then week after that and they go cute coming. So make sure you stay subscribed to the motherfucking vaccines. But anyway, we gonna be moving into you already know. We gonna be handing out some kudos to these motherfuckers today. Now there's a whole lot of people who've been fucking up in this world today who we gonna be handing out some kudos. I don't know. Here on stone that we smoking on sticky glue today another sponsor. No. All right, but look, to give out this first kudos, we didn't already gave out one to his wife. We didn't gave out one of him. We didn't gave out one to basically the whole family. So today we giving one out to the whole Smith residence. We had a new boys a kudos 'cause they been fucking up big time in the Smith resin. And me personally, I feel like I'm a victim here of the type of shit that they've been doing. Now Will Smith is my nigga. I used to look up to Will Smith when I was a little kid, definitely that nigga was on bad boys. I'm trying to think what was the first thing I seen Will Smith. Can you remember the first thing you seen with Smith phone? Probably. Fresh prince of Bel Air. Yeah. What was our robot coming out fresh prince? Yeah, definitely. First prince. But anyways, so this nigga came out with this book and like I told y'all before niggas who only come out with books are either sour as fuck or broke as fuck. We know Will Smith ain't broke bro. That nigga is just a sour. He showers fuck right now. So that's why he came out with this book. And in this book, he basically said that he'd been living his whole life as a facade. And does that mean fake? He basically been fake, putting on this front, he just was the fresh prince. Like he was. He basically saw the first person say, damn, I wanna be this nigga all the time and then brought this nigga to life as is real life person. He even said in the book, and I think we said this before, but that he would like gag or throw up after he had sex with girls. So I was him touched as a boy, dog. No, no, no, no. I don't know. He said it wasn't until like, no gay stuff. It was on some he felt he was answering a question Will Smith. Was him touch as a boy. I wanna know. No, he said. He said he watched his mama get a severe ass whooping and that changed his life. That was right here because you talking about beat. I don't think you talking like I asked whooping like, I thought he watched her get spanked like yeah. But I wouldn't be surprised hearing that from the Smiths residents. This nigga son is a pescatarian. What the fuck is that? I didn't use the right word. Were they like everybody? Bro, that's what I was about to say. Did y'all hear that rumor when he said he was gonna get his they cut off and just be castrated? Yeah. And then he was just gonna be rubbing up his nub against everybody. Niggas didn't know bro depressed. Oh my God. Swear to God. Man, I can Google that shit. Oh God, I got one for sale. That's a stone of exclusive. Well, it's a man bro, your balls is that you as a man nigga you don't let your balls get cut off. But what about just one? It's not gonna be Kyrie no more. You just gonna make a best how you gonna raise your Kyrie like darn soft all the time. All right, listen, all right, wait, hold on, but this is hypothetical. Now what if you found out when you got older like your 35 year old, you found out your balls don't even work. You can get 35. Yeah, I mean, they physically still there. Yeah, but if they go in for 35 a pop, that's some shit I wouldn't take. Well, anyways, we give them the kudos to Will Smith broke Will Smith in his whole entire family 'cause y'all been fucking up ever since we met y'all. We shouldn't know y'all fucking with your daughter started whipping her hair back and forth a little crazy bitch now. We got me moving on. We're gonna be giving out another kudos. We're giving out. "Or you could scan one bishop, right? For each side and kind of make them a little bit more traditional. It was interesting kind of the discussion that I had around trying to see if I could mass produce them. Oh, that's a great idea. I love that. Maybe in the future, if you continue to have it more venues, you know, because then perhaps you could partner with the venue to help make it more affordable. Yeah, and to have more a version that could be a travel sized version. I love it because I think what's really to me what's powerful about this chess said beyond the female empowerment angle is I really like the sea creature angle because I think it's you know, it's like chess. You know, there's a great, I don't have it in front of me, but there's a beautiful actual chess passage from Lolita by about the chessboard being like this kind of like aquarium that you kind of get sucked into, right? And I think the idea that it's like this, the sea that if you know about chess, you see everything. And if you don't, you just don't see what's going on. So yeah, I think it's just such a beautiful metaphor. And we definitely don't know, not everyone, but a lot of us don't know very much about this other world. Right. Because it's dark and it's, you know, it's not that accessible. It's not like birds or something. You can just see with binoculars, you know? Inhospitable, you know, the deep sea and we can't breathe underwater, you know, there's a lot of things that prevent us from really knowing what goes on in the deep sea. Do you scuba dive or have you? Snorkeling. No, I've never gone scuba diving. Well, I think after this chess set, like you would probably love it, right? Because you learn so much more about the sea life..

We're approaching a minority majority population. So the market demands. There's a lot of money on the table so if you are coming from one of these marginalized underestimated communities like in you care about building you care about trail-blazing it's not for the faint of heart. 'cause you get you know you heard me you get like you might get some like not so positive stuff you don't want but it really can help the community so again it all goes back to what. What's your goal and for me. It's definitely building community serving the underestimated founder. Funder friend community and making a lot of money. So there you go. Ecosystem needs both right they need. The voice needs to be pushed forward. You do need kind of both both of the types that this person is where maybe just doing it as a personal thing but doesn't want it to be so public but if there weren't people like you or like for instance in michael knows us but i so i became an lpn a fund for the first time ever it was mac con wells fund. And it's like yeah like if he wasn't like out there you know doing all the stuff he's doing. I would never even known him. I've never met him in person. And i'm like you know if it's the list his lp's i'm like right down here but still no. But here's here's the deal. That's that's part of why we're building in public too. Because there's so many of us who can participate who've been kinda sean because they're like you're not sequoia or a sixteen seed type of people and you're just like look i would love to. I just didn't know about this. Then you're just like yeah now part of the ecosystem. How can i help you. Lemming learn grow. And i think that's part of what makes life so rich for for the nerds in in our community like myself. It's like i wanna learn. Or i want to be part of something I wanna make money. I wanna work with good people because we only have one life and let's not work with assholes but you know so i that's part of the reason why also try to put content out max's a really good friend and he and i believe the same thing like let's put it out there. The reality is that it's it's tough. It's very very tough And there's a lot of bias but you know what there are people who will see through that. We'll see the opportunity that we see and While reap in our generational wealth future absolutely. Can you tell us a bit about the community onto. Yeah sure so. I guess my if. Both of them were workplace confessions but sort of touched the personal side of things as well. Yes and as always there's a lot to learn from these will finish with two big takeaways here all right. Where shall we start. Well i'll go first. I'll start with the first confession. In this case. The pandemic turned the person making the confession into a stay at home. Mom and well shouldn't like it and for good reason. It wasn't her proactive plan to stay at home as a mom. She was thrust into the situation that she frankly didn't want to be in but to her credit. She did what she had to do. Might take away was that we shouldn't always assume that the woman should be the one to take on more responsibility. Every couple is different. Every family's situations different in this situation. Her family seemed to make the choice together in. You certainly can't fault that but my hope is that it was a deliberate decision that each family makes rather than just revert back to the old women automatically being the ones to pick up the slack when it comes to the child care and education for the children. I think we've come a long way. At least i hope great point that and and yeah in my household. I'm usually the one making the kids school lunches and cooking dinner for the family and my wife. She's actually the one dealing with contractors of stuff's being worked on now so we don't have to revert back to the roles that society says that we should have every family's different so spot on there all right. Mike what's your big takeaway. Well let's go with that last confession. My friends don't know. I mean angel investor. I think it's sort of along similar lines in that. We shouldn't let what others do influence how we should behave in this confession. This person doesn't include investor in their twitter bio they aren't so public about the fact that they make investments. And you know what that's okay. There's nothing wrong with that. then again. There are others that do include investor in their bio. They do tweet or blog lot about their investing experience. And guess what that is. Okay as well fact for somebody like lolita. She really should be talking about her experiences. An investor helps build her personal brand that gets her access to more deals which gives her a better shot. At making great returns. Both situations are okay. So don't try to be somebody else. Do whatever's right for you right on my that's great echo and that's a wrap for today i'd say.

And i thought that was like the cutest thing ever i was like i feel that real hard but they had built a really nice life together. He worked for his family's business and then eventually ended up acquiring the business. They were making good money and they had a nice life but in the beginning of things they were kinda like just dabbling in drugs like they were again really young when they got together and mary joe found out that she was pregnant and she was like okay. I'm done without life. Obviously like. I'm not gonna do that anymore. And she had never really become addicted to anything in the first place. But joey on the other hand was having a really hard time trying to transition into his life as a family man and he kept like doing cocaine pretty regularly with his friends and mary jo was like yelich. Oregon have a family and be married. You can't be doing not so. She just like threw an ultimatum at him and it was his family or the drugs. Luckily he chose his family the first time. Hey one good thing with positive. Joey and he went to rehab ended up getting clean and once that was over he came home to the peking home and was the old joey that mary jo like remembered meeting. She had no idea. Though that joey and amy would eventually become involved with each other and once the truth started coming to light she actually stood by her husband for years. Still trying to like only believe the best about him. Mary jo is like a little angel. She's like the nicest woman ever. I feel like that breaks my heart. It's so sad. So after seeing joey amy pretty much became obsessed with him and she decided to bring her own car into the shop at the time she was driving. A dodge dakota that had seen fair share of accidents. I think she was a very bad driver and then so joey agreed to fix it up for her but then she continued getting into accidents on purpose. Being like oh i just have to go joey shop again then. He can fix my car. I didn't even know that she actually likes later on really. That's how well when you're sixteen in your infatuated with someone you go out of your way to find to see them. Go to great lengths. Oh i remember. When i was in middle school i liked this one boy and i would walk by his class at the same time like every day. And i'd be like looking back on that now. I'm like wow that's like psychotic though. It's so creepy. Same thing would be like. Oh i'm just in the area crazy at the same time every day happens to be near your classroom and my classroom may be on the other side but we're just getting my steps into the every squawk heart health is important exactly. I did the same exact thing. I would come down actually after lunch a certain stairway because a guy i had a crush on used to work in the office during that period so i could just and it was literally to walk by to look at him..

They're deploying their age much like the general population. Younger service members are less likely to want to take the vaccine and that as Service member is older, and as they increase in rank, they're far more likely to take the vaccine. All door reports, troops are not required to get the vaccine, at least for now.

Capture the methane that's being emitted from rotting food, how manure and sewage treatment plants and put that gas into the companies, pipelines hiding says burning that is a way of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and providing a very similar climate benefit to wind and solar supply of waste. Methane is limited, though, so the company would then mix that lower carbon gas. With hydrogen gas, which has no carbon emissions hiding, says her company could even make its own hydrogen gas. Northwest Natural is talking with an electric utility about building a production plant. It would use renewable electricity to make hydrogen gas by splitting the hydrogen from the oxygen and water. Think about the natural gas distribution and storage system as a massive battery. For wind and solar energy. The rest of the world is kind of already on this and in the U. S were a little bit behind Evan Ramsey works with a nonprofit Bonneville Environmental Foundation to increase renewable energy. He says making hydrogen would be a great way to use the extra wind, solar and hydropower that we can't easily store. The European Union is already offering incentives for companies to do just that. Hydrogen is pretty well suited to solve a lot of problems at once and really be this unifier between renewable energy and our society's energy needs. But Suzanne Sadat with the environmental group Earth Justice Says renewable yes, simply can't replace all the natural gas we're using. Today. You don't even have enough of this gas toe make more than a dent in the overall gas demands just a limit to how much hydrogen you can use in metal pipes without causing damage, he says. In a lot of waste. Methane isn't renewable in the same way as wind and solar, you know, the sun has to shine and the wind has to blow. But we don't have to raise animals on factory farms that create these lagoons of manure that generate this amount of methane Start says We'll have to use way less gas to completely get rid of carbon emissions. Doctor's advice: Forget the climate change deniers, focus on the 'passive allies'
"The most effective way to talk about. Climate Change I'm NPR chief meteorologist. Paul Hunter here with climate cast University study shows seventy percent of Americans now except that climate change is happening and only nine percent dismiss. Climate Change mini climate communicators now bypass the time and energy it takes to convince climate deniers Lolita. Surra Panini is a doctor with the University of Minnesota. And she's with health professionals for a healthy climate she wrote on NCI about motivating passive allies. Highly Hi Pal. So that George Mason Zain Yale. Study says that seventy percent of Americans now believe climate change is real and about six and ten are either concerned or alarmed so since the vast majority already of people now accept climate science. Do we really need to spend time convincing those so-called dismissive to move forward on solutions. I M an internist and so the why of any action is central to my practice so I started thinking about why we would want to convince someone if the answer is because you want them to take action than we need a different strategy so you talk in your piece about passive allies. Who are they so the Yale study shows that thirty percent are concerned and seventeen. percent are cautious. But they are not taking action for us. The efficient use of our time right now is did move the forty seven percent into taking action when you think about where to Focus Carr's time and energy Who are the people. You're focused on. I think at our circles. We have a lot of people who already believe that. Climate change is a real and urgent the problem so if we can give them concrete immediate steps to take that will move the population that are actively engaged engaged in creating social change. I'm curious you know as a behavioral list. What are the dynamics of changing personal beliefs and behavior. One of the things that comes to mind is talking to patients about how Quitting smoking so even when we start in a shared reality the that smoking is bad for our health. It takes a long time for someone to go from what we call the pre contemplation stage where people are not even thinking about quitting smoking talking to the action phase. So when we translate this decline I we have to convince people. It's real then. We have to convince it's manmade then we have to convince them to take action which basically requires them to overhaul their lifestyle most of the analysts on climate change. Do you say that personal action matters but we also need bigger structural changes in the way we do transportation and the way we do energy and food. So is it really true. That people have to overhaul their lifestyle. Yeah absolutely I think they both go hand in hand In public health actually we have a framework that shows that that when you change the system to make the default behavior healthy or in this case green then. It's more likely that people will take that action and that it's more sustainable sustainable. We've seen in the past that you don't always need one hundred percent of the people to make a change. What are some historical examples of action on issues. That did not have a high I level of support. Yeah common misconception is that to create social change. Everyone needs to act but data tells us a different story so a couple of examples are a Gallup poll in one thousand nine hundred sixty one showed only twenty eight percent approved of the lunch counter. Sit Ins and freedom buses during the civil rights movement and a study. Dr Chenoweth from Harvard. Found that it takes only around two point. IRL: Online Life Is Real Life
Making Privacy Law
"The word regulation gets tossed around a lot not lately and it's often aimed directly at the internet's big tech companies some worried that the size of these companies the power and influence. They wheeled the magnitude of their presence in our lives. It's too much that these companies need to be given boundaries that they need to be regulated u._s. Senator senator elizabeth warren for instance says big tech is too big. She wants to break these companies up but on the other end of the classic argument that any regulation is overreach that regulation actually stifles innovation. We should leave it to the market. Everything will sort itself out. Consumers will settle their problems with their dollars. It's a debate that's ongoing but over the last year in the midst of it a funny thing happened. Tech companies did did get regulated. Here's how it all started a little over a year ago. The general data protection regulation russian became law across europe the g._d._p. Are as it's called was and is a big deal. It lays out explicit rules rules around how companies collect store share and use data grants consumers important rights to protect their data privacy and it imposes. This is big fines on companies who breach these rights lake spain's national football league recently the spanish data protection authority sanctioned the national soccer league <hes> from spain <hes> because of their mobile tap gabriella zamfir fortuna is with the future of privacy forum and this story caught her eye mid june spain's top pro men's soccer league. It's called la liga and the league app is both for i._o._s. And android but according to the spanish data protection authority the android the android version comes with a bonus feature on the app did was that the microphone would turn on for a couple of seconds ends every minute during a live football match lolitas official soccer app can turn your microphone acre phone on to listen for a special audio signal sent out during televised matches. The human ear can't hear it. The league did that because because they wanted to cross reference the audio fingerprinting with location data in order to figure out what bars or restaurants were broadcasting the match without paying a license for that lolita says it loses one hundred and fifty million euros every year to piracy and fraud about one hundred and seventy million u._s. dollars by combining that audio signal and knowing where the phone with the app is as they can crackdown on unlicensed broadcasts well. That was the goal anyway. The data protection authorities says lalita didn't and seek out proper consent from its users and under g._d._p. Are that nets you a red card. The suspense data protection authority had an investigation <hes> <hes> and they decided to find the league with two hundred and fifty thousand euros. That's about one hundred eighty thousand dollars so that so one very recent example of g._d._p. Our enforcement lalita is crying foul. It insists everything it's does is legal and that it does get user consent. It says the regulator doesn't understand how the tech works so appealing the fine but for now they have deactivated he activated the feature complaints. Investigations finds an appeals. That is the name of the game for g._d._p. Ours first year and it means is that europe is leading the global privacy conversation around the world g._d._p. Are has sparked something. Similar legislation is spreading to places like brazil l. and japan india's considering it too in the u._s. No federal privacy law exists yet but the state of california has passed its own privacy law which kicks in next year not to mention the record five billion dollar fine levied against facebook in july by the u._s. Federal trade commission which by the way is the biggest fine ever levied and yet small compared to the tens of billions of dollars facebook makes every year financial penalties are getting bigger and privacy regulation has arrived and it's upending the relationship between tech companies and us their users today you'll hear from twitter's new data protection officer and how he says the company is rethinking how it handles our information and then microsoft explains why they claim they're eager for even more regulation and you'll meet the californian responsible for the passage of his state's powerful new data law. It's true one person can actually change the world. I'm new summary this i._r._l. An original okon cast from fire fox fire fox products have always stood for privacy when g._d._p. Our past fire fox fox didn't need to overhaul its business practices. The company's data privacy principles mirror those of the g._d._p. Are and even exceed them. In some ways it feels is like the rest of the world is catching up where the company has been all along learn more about how fire fox fights for you at fire fox dot com slash join the g._d._p. Are is a complex and detailed set of rules. We won't get into every bit of it but let's let's look at why it is such a game changer so i to clear something up. You know those annoying pop up notifications. You keep getting every time you go to a new website. This website uses cookies to ensure you. Get the best experience on our website. You'd be forgiven for believing that these problems are now mandated by continuing to use our site. Thank you agree to my terms of service and privacy policy. I have seen plenty of those reactions because it might be that one of the unnecessary effects of the g._d._p. Are was that <hes> a lot out of banners. A lot of pope ops started to gloves of people. The pop ups are not a requirement under g._d._p. Are there more like a hack an elegant attempt by companies to get consent from consumers to collect their data. Here's gabriella again from the future of privacy forum but the g._d._p. Is carries much more than that. It actually starts from the premise that by mishandling personal data by on in <hes> fairly collecting unfairly using personal data more than deprive issue of people is at stake protecting online privacy. He is difficult and this law places. The burden of responsibility on businesses not consumers so for instance companies have to show that the data they collect act and use is necessary to providing their services and if someone asks that their data be deleted. They have to comply another strong long privacy protection that the g._d._p. Provides for is that it allows individuals to actually have some control over their personal data the the g._d._p. Are also provides for individual rights of action <hes> which means that people can go to court and ask for damages if if they think that <hes> any company or other organization a breach to the data protection rights and in fact a lot of people. We'll have been filing complaints according to gabriella in the first nine months of the g._d._p. Are being applicable. We have about two hundred thousand cases that were opened pinned with data protection authorities across europe because of g._d._p. Our companies including google facebook twitter apple and linked not in have faced investigations into their data practices but there has been some criticism of g._d._p. For one some say that the number of registered complains planes have not led to enough investigations others believe regulators haven't find enough companies for enough money to really make a difference but this is all still. I'm very new. They're calling it. A transition year as companies and regulators alike adjust to the new privacy status quo consumers. These are having to adapt to. I think we have a long way to go until the everyday internet consumer around the world will understand his his or her rights but certainly the g._d._p. Are has raised awareness okay so those the dp are basics if you wanna learn more about consumer rights under g._d._p.
