Clips, takeaways from GM Dave Gettleman's season-ending press conference
Welcome giants fans. Pugh are listening to the Valentine's views podcast here on big blue view radio part of the SP nation family of podcasts. I'm your host advantage. Big blue view on today's show what we're going to do is review. Some of the remarks that general manager Dave Gettleman made on Wednesday at his season ending press conference. What you're going to here are a few clips of Gettleman speaking on Wednesday, followed by some of my comments in between each clip that we play we will start with Gettleman discussing the future of giants quarterback. Eli manning. I'm committed to have made the best decision. Football. That's what I'm committed really wish. I know that you guys won't extras, Dale, the very, frankly, I did. So. I'm doing to do which is getting my office and show we will meet just this week coaching evaluations when he actually appropriate. I'll get there. As usual in. I will be watching film for the next. Who knows I want to my? That's that's. So my commitment is to make this team the best team it can be. Have you? I play quarterback. Okay. Giants fans. That's Dave Gettleman discussing the future of ally. Manning as the giants quarterback might take on that. Is this listen, I think that ally manning is going to be back next season. I think the door is open a little bit farther for moving on from ally. Then perhaps I thought I think there's a little bit more doubt regarding that situation. Then I might have believed after listening to Pat Shurmur, you know, talk about how much he he appreciated Eli and how he wanted him back after Sunday night's season. Finale, I think there's a couple of things at play here. I think that the giants are recognizing that they do need to put a plan in place for ally for the post he li- manning era. I think that that is coming down the road. It wouldn't surprise me to see you know, at least one new face in quarterback. Croom next year. I don't know what the giants think of of Dwayne Haskins Daniel Jones, some of the other guys in the draft class. But I do think there's recognition that ally. Manning has limitations. And that the his time as quarterback of the giants is sure it, but as of now, I do believe that the giants will bring ally back. I think you know, Dave Gettleman made reference on Wednesday as well to ally. Still being able to make NFL throws. That combined with Pat Shurmur endorsement of ally. I think in the end winds up with the giants bringing manning back. But it wouldn't surprise me. At all if someone if a highly drafted quarterback is also in the room next season. Perhaps we're looking at something like the the Kansas City plan where they drafted Patrick Mahomes. And had him sit for a year behind Alex Smith, and then moved on from Smith with Mahomes taking over this season in Kansas City to what we saw were. Absolutely incredible results. Alright giants fans the next thing. We're going to hear is Gettleman discussing the need for the giants to upgrade the talent on the defense side of the ball. They say down. Led to the wrongful Allison. Gave up the most points. What's that? Why you're twenty five? While I'd been that we continue on. Got to continue to improve. We had. It's off when. To millions. Don't have. Need? Flutie writing. I last year we got. Bathroom. Okay. Giants fans might take away on that is this. I think that Dave Gettleman in the giants are going to spend much of their off-season focused on the defense. Obviously they have major decisions to make on the futures of highly paid veterans like Livy Vernon generous Jenkins. They have a decision to make on Landon Collins as well the rebuild of the defense will start with someone like third round supplemental pick Sam Bill, but I do believe that you can expect both free agency and the draft to focus heavily on defense. The next thing that you will hear from Gettleman is him discussing the idea that the giants were in win now mode in two thousand eighteen in that perhaps he misjudged the the depth of the rebuild that was necessary. Last offseason. Do you think you misjudge how close the scene was being competitive misjudge at all? You know, people that's been asking for that. I've thought about it. I know. Tell me one. It's just your knowing that rebuilding process in bring back. You don't draft a quarterback. He trade give draft pick for the tree bringing older veterans creations in those those goes. He goes notice not some. But by the end of the year, we had one of. It was nobody likes. Nobody. He even know like losing already has they'll do it. Okay. So what you have to do when you committed his body. You saved his friend. Right told you I'm on that. To a. But the title of. You want to win. Now, you wanna get those winds Nedal coaching staff, which are on the line every side. You want to set the team up? The threat is up the sustained success. So. You know back to the city. You're in here. We are. There's this this good stuff in this. Okay. Giants fans. Couple of thoughts on that. The idea that the giants were in win now mode or the idea that they left the impression of being in win. Now mode was sort of easy to it was easy to go down that road because of keeping ally manning at quarterback because of some of the veterans signings Connor bar win Jonathan Stewart older players like that because of trading for Alec Ogle tree which brought in a big contract. But ghetto mimic knowledged, some of the free agent. Mrs you know, any acknowledged that you don't always get it right in free agency. He also acknowledged the idea that some of the players that were brought in were brought in for reasons. Other than on the field in the giants spent a lot of time and effort attempting to change the culture of locker room that had pretty much been poisoned. By the end of the two thousand seventeen season also acknowledged something that I think we've seen this year that when they know they've made a mistake such as with Oman may such as a quickly moving on from Eric flowers that they will go in another direction. I think it will be interesting to see how the giants handle the off season this year. But Gettleman made it clear that he sees this as a process as a building process he said, he doesn't like the word rebuild. He prefers to to to say that they're just building an that. They go forward. We will see where it goes. But I thought it was interesting that he that he didn't like the accusation that he misjudged the roster. I think much more so than the fan base Gilman's been around the NFL for forty years now, probably and I think he understood. And Pat Shurmur understood the depth of the job that they have in front of them. They're part of the way through that. We'll see where it goes in two thousand and nineteen the next thing that you are going to hear from Gettleman is an assessment of his belief in Pat Shurmur, we'll take a couple more. We ring in your line the right guy to this thing moving forward. Compass said is ready. No, no, if anything it reinforced my feeling about a year. We went to. Why it's it was the steadiness. It was the message. It was. I guess it's. One and seven. And we to practice during. This is kind of next. Is again, I don't know. I don't know you guys make gloss over. I don't know that you can really appreciate because you you'll you there any to watch stretch you watch. Sweet I fifteen minutes. Cochran. So. Stay there for the next forty minutes. I wish you could see in just waiting. Get the patent coaches kept everybody on task going to the renter. Understanding. You will be with Alicia could keep pushing. No. Okay. Giants fans. The thing. I've said many times regarding Pat Shurmur is that I like a lot of the things that Shurmur has done throughout the two thousand eighteen season. I really liked the preseason program that he ran you have to love the fact that he kept the locker room together after a one in seven start such a far cry from what we saw in two thousand seventeen. There is an awful lot to like, obviously in the end Shurmur and the giants have to win games. That's the bottom line. But I do think that I'm optimistic. Dave Gettleman and Pat Shurmur are not perfect. I am however optimistic because they do seem to share a common belief in how the game should be played in the teams need to be built from inside out from the lines out. That is a philosophy that the giants got away from in the final years of Jerry rhesus tenure as general manager. Dave Gettleman says all the time that big guys allow you to compete when you block you can have successful offense. When you defend the run when you have a good front line that can rush the passer you can have a successful defense that can make game changing plays. And I think that Shurmur and Gettleman share that philosophy. And it is one of the things that makes me most optimistic that the giants do have a regime in place that can push them forward and get them back to a position where they can consistently contend. The final thing that we will hear from today in in reference to to Gettleman press conference, the final thing that that we will listen to is Gettleman discussing the state of the offensive line in the need to continue to add more Haag molly's to that group. This season with your college. Is this you have sold or you have as you feel at the other because you're starting line neck well app is this office. This is no say first of all don't forget peel. Don't begin John. Worsley the second game. He was playing the best bed. Snow? Forget about peels. I always been working on those lines. Those groups you kidnapped have enough. You can't. You can't because people get hurt. All. People look be thirteen. Seven first round in the second on. I say. There's no idea. Dave so emotion always going to do. It. Giants fans. The takeaway for me. There has to be first and foremost that John Jala peo- who went out I believe in the third game of the season. With a fractured ankle is most likely to be you're starting center for the giants in two thousand nineteen beyond that, obviously the giants are not satisfied with the offensive line. They will continue to build it. This is one of the things as I said previously that made me optimistic about the hiring of Dave Gettleman. He believes in the hog molly's. He believes in building from inside out. I do believe he will continue to do that. So we will see how that goes. We'll see what new faces that that means for the giants on the offensive line in two thousand and nineteen with that said giants fans, I think that is our show for today. We hope you enjoyed this format. We hope you enjoy. Loyd the opportunity to get to listen to some of the things that that the general manager said all right? We thank you. The Kist & Solak Show #26: Eagles Make the Giants Quit
Michael kissed Benjamin so lack. It's the kissed and Solex show presented by SP nation and bleeding green nation. You are plying high on the kiss and Solex show episode twenty five brought to you by SP nation and bleeding green nation. I'm your host. Michael kissed follow me on Twitter at Michael kissed and fell as always the best dog co host in the game Mr. eight year streak without a bad day, Benjamin, so lack follow him on Twitter at Benjamin. So like that's SO l. a. k. Ben baby, we got a win and we're back, let's go how you doing. Brother feels let the number one thing that feels good winning football game being the giants, but very close second is that the most like abrasive thing being added Toyoto responded to me on social media is what get remember the giants, which like, yeah, I think that while the defense performed well, we should really hit that note hard there because jibes offense was quite discombobulated. Offensively very strong opponents cross the board irregardless of who the the defense was. Was it was clearly across the board, better execution on all fronts. And that's the best news here. I think that this was the realization of what we've kind of talking about for the past two weeks might which is simply this team just keeps on losing being moments and the he thinks about tipping the wrong way in the shooting themselves in the funds to situations. This was this was just a clean, a good team being a bad team, the way you expect to see and that's what needs to happen. Thirty four to thirteen is your final for the eagles. They moved to three and three giants move to one in five in yet. Let's be clear. This is a bad giants team that we saw quit before our eyes, which was very enjoyable. Pat Shurmur upset on the sideline, yelling, throw the ball to ally Odell walking out before the half way. I missed Shurmur was yelling at you, throw. I didn't see that. I've got a coup tweeted on my timeline. Go check it this. You might find it. Yeah, he was captain check. Down in some crazy most at the same time strimmers calling to draws when they're down. Like three slight, it was. It was wild, but yet overall, what you said about the offense? I feel correct. We haven't been as hard on the offense as maybe some people thought we should have been because we felt like it was only a matter of time before they found their footing and started to get going. I thought the adjustments they made early in the game when the line had some struggles were very good. I thought the the run pass. You know, the decision making the play calling was better as they had just that they started to give went some more defined high low reads. He executed them very well twenty six thirty six to seventy eight three touchdowns and on the plays where he held the ball. He made some plays. There was a red zone touchdown to Al Sean Jeffrey, which was fantastic. He finds Nelson Lord down the field when he when he holds onto will play play action boot. So when he did hold onto the ball, there was a purpose and he made some big plays and that's kind of what we were missing. Two people were criticizing were holding onto the ball. You're going to get that downside to it too. Raid, take some Saxon and things of that nature. But at the same time you get those big busting place from him. I thought Wentz was lights out this game. Oh, shut up. Saquon Barkley for one main reason. Yeah, because he had a strong enough game an incredible game so that the national conversation, as far as individual player performance was solely focused on Barclay and everybody missed the fact that carseat looks so back on healing. So baggage, best art, so cool to see benign, giving a fantastic point the living with with double edged sword of Carson's being a guy Lysol onto the ball and extend plays that drive. Ably was in the second quarter. Philadelphia comes out in just a bit late. I relinquish a lot of pressure. Jason Peters got beat a couple times by Livy Vernon. He ends up going out with the biceps which is something to know now he's left to the past five games early and button. Biceps sounds ominous. You hope it to strain. That's a terrier really bad news. And we'll talk about that later, but yet go ahead. Right? So so the point being that was good amount of pressure that came across his way, and he was spending a lot of time just sitting in the pocket working progressions. He wasn't moving off his spot at all, and that's just the, this is what we've been trying to emphasize the line. The fall goes on the offense of Lyman, missed the block, but there's other stuff you can do to help and you media you come up next drive. Number one is a heavy emphasis on the running game in the RPO which lets you off the line and be aggressive. They get to be the aggressor, they add to attack. They're the ones who drive down and their initiating contact. And then those quick passes. You don't have to worry about protection nearly as much. And after those couple of drives half reduction greatly improved rice, let your offense of line get into a flow into a good physical head space. You know what I mean? So that was a strategy employed against the Vikings at work. Well, and then you saw it again immediately after offense of line struggles here against the giants. I really, really like that Carson when he had time. Fantastic decision. Making do not put the ball endanger once except for the one where he got hit in the ball duck Dow in Nelson, I made a great play, which one of those situations where a tipping point play when philidelphia's way? Exactly. Last week that play goes into the lap of Limbaugh Joseph this week, it goes into the lap of Nelson Adler thing. Things happened. Great way to say precisely and so but kept the ball safe. Clay Smith was unbelievable on my my age of the boundary, ten fifteen yards down the field against the sideline. Har- faked red zone, short windows quick decisions. Flawless, Mike, good. Oh, man. And it were still, I think we're still at the point and I don't know how much this is Russ at how much this is his third year player in this kind of his place thile on he still growing through it or whatever. I'll we're still the point where he'll stair things down a little bit and he'll get heavy on his first read and he'll he'll sink his feet into the ground. That's what you know that you saw eight. C'mon broke down play. Ricard's was just standing there see removed at all that Nelson long throw, where was a terrible throw. It was Garcia just feet were moving through that they all are, which was so ugly who work. He still has his little problem. Some processing unusual like pacing kind of, I would timing, you know, when at the end of the day, I mean how many quarterbacks you take him before starting a franchise. That was the question that was asked last year, and the answer was zero this year. I mean, probably Patrick Mahomes is gonna make make a push, but to me answer those zero. All good. Who who will stood out for you? Excite bought also Jeffrey played another fantastic making some contested catches Nellie with downfield, throw that we talked about making things happen, extending plays like like you so good at Zakar consistent. Seven catches forty three yards a touchdown. Other than that, the run game was solid. You worried about small with their when he had that fumble, but he ended up recovering it so we don't have to yell at him right now because that would have been a bad situation for that to happen. The giants give them some life getting back in the game, but he was able to get it back the offense of line. As we said, some struggles early really quitted themselves. Well, throughout the rest of the game, I wanna talk about Isaac symbolic of real real quick because number one, the appointed out on Twitter. He is a dog in the in the run game, and you didn't hear anything from him in in the past game, which tells me and I was watching him too. He had a pretty pretty good game there too. So I think switching him out for was new ski while we were baffled by it at first and we were baffled by what Gips that had to say about him in the offseason. He has improved man. He has definitely improved. I think what it what my big was Sam low is is he came out of Oregon state small, and he has remained small of the NFL level and that size will always lead issues for him. He was getting walked back pretty consistently. Okay. He is. He's the debts of the pocket, pocket. Integrity is getting compromised there. And so that gives you quarterback no room to step up. When your quarterback lacks room to step up as pressure becomes a lot more dangerous odd because you back as no room to kind of just counter that by simply climbing in the pocket being said, it's very clear that his initial footwork in handwork are better than they were coming into league. And then also from what we saw him even last year terms of his ability to consistently leverage relievers his hands underneath the shoulder pads and get into the chest late so that when he's getting walked back, he still remains quarterback Russia integrity where he is between the two at this point. That's kind of what you're gonna ask for him in that regard. Like, you know, he's not going to hold up well against the dalvin Tomlinson's and VJ hills of the world because those are two big boys who can generate a lot of rolling power. And that's going to be a problem of you're relying on. Is example in like a big of big postseason game against Don Mcgann, sue, and and Donald like that's going to be talking about for, but the Hanyu this clear tackle which help him out to deal with his. Limitations, right? It's worth noting another guy who you could describe that way is Jason Kelsey. Now Kelsey is such a technician and win. So early in the reps that you don't notice it as much. Right? So that's your. That's what you're looking at with sample. Oh, that's still developing. He's not there yet Stanley. They're great NFL players who survive without limitation, but they said with the running game, simply what he clearly brings with doesn't he's the ability to seal off a first level block hit. You know, hit hit a combo block. He didn't as block into deuce hit, you know, whatever, and then get up into the second level with nice angles and a lot of repentiti swiftness. He very quick. I a second level, explosive steps like that. And that's really beneficial. You saw so many like five yard runs tonight because simply there were so many creases. There was so much space. You hit your nose into fall forward. It's a positive gang keeps you head of the sticks. And when you've got no real world leaders running back right now, that's perfectly fine to see. Yeah. And he, I thought he did well in in the same areas that you mentioned being able to get to that second level locate seal off. He's not going to, you know, he's not putting guys in the door or anything like that, but he his his angles, like you said, very well done. I'm wanna switch into the defense. Real quick says team allowed thirteen points, and we were concerned about some of the coverage Jewish worts been under fire. We saw some flexibility in the defenses plan for the eagles you solve in place in too high with some cover too. I remember. Darby played his flat zone really well on one with good understanding of how we can leverage his drop and bait and still get good DEP use awesome result Douglas at safety, which is something people really wanted to see the defense got pressure. A lot of pressure on July manning, which is what we expected. I think at one point on thirty dropbacks we had ten quarterback hits not pressures, ten quarterback hits. That's big, right? So the giants offense basically predicated on saquon Barkley making something out of literally nothing. Although as I run was blocked up perfectly to and you know there was a nice blocking screen passes by. That's why am I saying screen passes as if there were multiple ones, there was one day try to run a second one out real well, and it was super game is already over by then. Like I don't know what their game plan is, but but again, the ally is bad. The double moves weren't there. The coverage showed some different things that we hadn't seen and we were worried of Schwartz was going to be able to get on get right train. I think we're on the way. However, there still are some issues, especially tackling space, but you're also talking about saquon Barkley as well as just elite talent. So we'll see how those continue. But I saw Darby come up in click Clack and make a play to Darby Darby rate has Remm ramped up his play in the past to ease my opinion, aggressive against screens against the Vikings. He was aggressive against screens tonight. Any was decent in coverage against the Vikings. There's the club buffs Ifan degs put him in the next week, but he was solid. Yeah. And what about Jalen mills? Because it's not an eagles game without Jalen mills getting beat by Cody Latimer. But other than that, I mean, he bounced back and then he didn't talk trash. The guy who just burned him. So that was a plus overall feelings on the secondary eight. It's it's hard to get a feel of how the secondary played when Eli is hitting his third step and immediately checking down, right? So that's, that's. That's the number one thing out of the secondary play. The second played exactly how you want them to plan the Jim Schwartz defense. You have no idea because there was no time, right? And this is what, and that's why I know I've said this a few times. I'm really not trying to to to to hornbeck kisses. Oh actual here. But this will be talked about Mike for two three weeks. Heels, a pass passed, struggling against the titans, struggling against the Vikings. Listen the way that you why is there so much off coverage, wiser so much cover three years. Jim Schwartz wants to put eight in the box, must do discord. You run the football on him, says, pass. Rushers can t off, and then he wants to not be able to push the ball db. If you don't have enough time, this is exactly what a Jim Schwartz defensive game plan. You wanted to look like that being said, he didn't run as much carbon three is usually does. And the big reason Mike to me was the Evan Ingram and read Ellison, dual inactive Taina one and tied into for the New York Giants. And we brought up the fact that they like to go in twelve personnel with one back into tight ends when there's no big receiving threat at tight end, you don't need to make sure Jenkins is up in the. Box as frequently. So as to have the freedom to run man coverage when you don't need Jiang it up in the boxes frequently, you have the potential to like hold hold, hold everything years. You'd be crazy play Jenkins at an actual safety alignment. And when you do that, you can play too high. You can play too deep right? And you're not nearly as worried about tight end receiving threats. You saw Philadelphia run, probably more actual too deep coverage like more traditional cover to than you've seen them run under Jim Schwartz. You know, for the past, whatever three seasons has been that he's been here, you know it was. It was up there for sure. It wasn't even their dominant coverage I would say, but the fact that they're able to sprinkle those in does two things. One, it allows you to be far more multiple in what you change too. At the snaps you can give like, you know, the eagles opened up in a in a cover to look, I and game rotated cover three rice. You do that now you shifty shifty. But number two, you're helping so much more on those. Outside boundary, routes your chorus complain, more aggressively into the comeback. Rub the Ronald Darby pass up on auto Beckham late in the first quarter. Perfect example Darby gets to play underneath Beckham in a trail technique behind him us ios yet safety over the top in to deep shell. Then when Darby reads the back shoulder, Honey hole, throw, he can get into it, pass with his quickness. That's how you love to use. Ronald Darby does for him. That's just his his skill set the perfect and heels got do that tonight. That's what I had asked for just a little bit of cover to remember after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game where they gashed us with thousands curls. I said every now and then just discourage them off that throw play. Some cover to usually be exciting is when you go back and you chart this, I'm not gonna. When you go back and you try this and you see the success rate of passing plays in cover to cover three because I guarantee you the first thing that Jim Schwartz go on his desk tomorrow morning Friday whenever you're listening to this, but was. Is success rates relative to his his safety shells because if the eagles are active on the trade market right now, if eagles did open up cap space and maybe it's not running back if you can go to how in love when I can put two safeties deep, I and I can just at least work this end. We can solve some of these depot problems. And the data is very conditional in the fact that you, I manage cancel the ball for fifteen yards down the field. I absolutely understand that. But the thing is there even if it's a false positive. I still think it's going to bear fruit because offense aren't gonna know the shell every single time they get to the line of scrimmage, and just not alone puts half a second more time on the quarterback to process that gives your your pass first time I got there. And so I'll be very interested to see what the next move is this game. Now you're going to get a Carolina. I'm pretty sure Greg Olsen healthy, never positive, but he probably is. And if Greg Olsen healthy view, they drafted the the Thomas the Indiana, they've got tight ends that they're going to be. Willing to use Carolina, you know, are we going to revert back because we're worried about the tight end threat. We gotta take that away. Obviously, Carolina also they'll do option. He stuff will do to back set. You get extra in the box that we're getting ahead of ourselves. The thing is I'm relatively certain the good results from cover to looks too deep shells tonight. And that is good news for the kitchen. So actual brand and the eagles defense. The final note just restored by the supreme safety. It was exclusively because there was an injury to semi Jones went down the hamstring I that was not something that they wanted to happen. I can promise you that number one number two. When he nearly picked off that like ball got popped in the if he had picked off a ball from single high safety. Eagle will be inconsolable for ten years. So be retired wising safety right now. Right douse, the first light he was in for a series before them, but also I offer to make a play man. That's what made me laugh off. Reserve judgment on all safety plans to get all twenty two. He really guess he them. On the broadcast fell, I can. I can tell you the angle that him in him and Brad him took to Barclay on that late touchdown, Ryan was not fantastic. Again, it's a weird ain't that that's a different way of seeing things for Douglas when he never started at safety Ono. If you played a little bit of safety at West Virginia, that was a whole big thing on Twitter between him and Jimmy Kinski. That was so haunt, you know, listen, yeah. So that angle on the Barclay plays a couple of things. One swo- was at the hash which me scored that's out of the field, and then he was rolling to the middle at the snap. So us orient go in the wrong direction. Number one number two giants ran duo to the strong side so they their entire blocking scheme was like, hey, we're going, we're going to, you're right. So we're going, you're right. So we're Sewell comes up and he that's where the Boston becoming. And then Brad has forced players abilities bradtha of their as is mental scrimmage. He has him caned Soules the alley players. So the ideas Brad makes Barclay come up field Soule comes down to the tackle. So, yeah, su- lay reading in his anger. Was probably two flat, but to ask a corner to make that complex a read on an athlete, Berkeley. And yeah, from safety issues. Like, yeah, it was bad hill, but there was nothing better. You could have expected from him in that situation. Yeah. So anyway, we'll we'll figure it out the fact that the giants just didn't throw it to d- middle the field Russell Douglas's playing received is amazing. It is goes to show you like there it so bad. He li- man if I was a giants fan just with this team like we, we can. We can look at things like through lens like we were getting on the verge with this team right now even said, if we come out flat this game, now I'm hitting the panic button. I'm not hitting the panic button anymore. I'm not. You know, this is a bad team again that we'd be not all his cured. We still have issues to clean up and we had to execute against a better team and whatnot, but things are better what we saw from the giants. Can you imagine for second. Put yourself in the mindset of a giants fan and think about having to do this show if the eagles played like the giants played tonight by would be furious. I would be absolutely furious, and I would be right there with the fan base going. Same burn. All dalit is redemptive. Like what would you be like? But this was good. Like just barky right? Literally just Barclay. Literally just Barclay. Everybody along the fifty three buyers. Berkeley was the only an was trying, but Odell also walked out before halftime. Shurmur said at his pressure that he needed an Ivy. Yes, sure. Before with his two catches for twelve yards, your boy doesn't know. We were very concerned about coming into this game in autumn about you. I saw effort issue on on one of the streets he had on Darby, like, I don't think he expected the ball at all that relationship between him and allies got to begin real tents right now. I align Odell ship. There's no way it's good. Shurmur no Dell's relationship. There's no way that's good. I of honest with you, like I was hearing eight minutes. Bach and Twitter say about, you know, effort issues. I like this sound super nerdy. I was so like rare. Like I'd like locked in on like the Xs knows that just wasn't like I was like, okay, you know what I'm gonna do notice. I think like to the we were so worried about Dell point and then you're the eagles not coming out flat. I think the best way to kind of summarize what we saw in a contextualized with what we expected was respected eagles to come out strong and and clean up a lot of the execution mistakes in play. Latina had allowed to play for the did. Yeah, we expected closer game, not because we thought the eagles would perform any less than they did release thought. The giants would have something. We, at least the I unleashed thought that you were going to get, you know, some some, some good play from the secondary genetics. Jiang wasn't gonna get son by Sean Jeffrey. For the most part, I thought you were going to least get, you know, some longer drives with able to get some explosive plays to Dell and gathered momentum in that stadium. I mean, they. Flan ended flatter Ryan. So I lose to this in the beginning of the show. I think offensively you can comfortably say a lot of the concerns with the eagles. We took a step forward and I kind of I had a tape was like the office of lines playing a little better, but also the adjustments for the offense of line. Right? Are better than they have in the past week? Yeah, the red zone executions, a little better, but also the play calling his fresh earn a little bit more inventive. A lot of the the stuff that we said due to a number of factors, all those factors to step forwards or buildings being concerned about. They're still offline communications us very clearly blitzing five man, you got a free rush like we gotta shore that up. You know, that's an issue or you talked about a few Carson errors, whatever. But overall, I think you know, usually soften the offense in a vacuum was good. The defense is still where the questions are going to be for me in terms of how the scheme is deployed when you you're not against such an feet past attack number one. And number two, what what's going to happen when a team. Actually as a quarterback who could hit their Lee receiver up against Jalen mills. Because I mean Odell against mills, everybody in their mother coming into this game, several this going to be a huge issue and for the for Adele really not get any downfield parking. It's been burned like anyone for the past few weeks as just shocking to me, Doug Peterson in reading glasses, yes, that need to be thing moving forward. We had time this alkyl dog went to young hip grandpa dog, right? Like he was very salt on the rear losing the the remaining Brown hairs that were holding out steadfastly on the sideburns. We went full hat, reading glasses down, low on the knows he channeling handy. You can't tell me not channeling. His inner handy told you convince me I'm wrong. The second I saw those glasses as as big red, which he wouldn't have been called big red wasn't the head of the big red about the talk about MAC and cheese and throw shovel option. Right? Like in felt super Andy to me. I. I was relating into it just for me 'cause I were reading glasses and I was like, I like this, Doug, this Doug gets me fired up this this. This is what I wanna see. I I was a big fan of that. I was a big fan of, oh, Chris, Wilson, Chris Wilson's in his December mode already eagles defensive line coach Wilson. Every winter grows a huge beard and it's not Tober eleven and we'll see out there is a big grey beard like what's up Santa LA. Here we go excited. Can we talk about Zakar? It's real quick because I wanted to show him some love. We talk about this a lot with him, but that touchdown grab that he had in the red zone against north Jenkins where they got him one on woman Jenkins and he tilt Jenkins so hard on the post corner. That was a thing. There aren't many titans out there that are as good at tilting. Defenders at the break point, then there ours Aker. It's right now. He is elite at not through that word. Around, you know that he is elite at tilting defenders at the break point and his connection with once just the placement where he needs to be just as ability to get open in those situations when he has the opportunity. Do you remember the play to to Jeffrey to the touchdown, a him in the red zone, you know? And they showed the end zone angle and you see Zachary's releasing. He's got three defenders with eyes on him because they know who we want to. Visit and that touchdown to that touchdown earns man mission. They went weak side with little like the the eagles offense. Talk about the weakside thing. Talked about it a lot when they go red zone. It's listen. We're gonna keep a guy, tighter line of scrimmage in a halfback to one side and worse going to stress you on the outside flats because we're gonna put that corner in conflict in. It's going to be open to so all the time. Here's here's, here's a fun question than I decide to post you. Now. It's not a quiz, the ESPN rank twenty eighteen NFL rank when ranked the top one hundred players eagles had seven players. Ranked Carson was number one. Flesh was number two lane was number three. Malcolm was number four. Urge was number five rand grandma's number six, Jason Kelsey was number seven. How do you feel about these rankings now? I would have to put kilson in earth's higher, whereas l. Sean. I mean, obviously this was I think this was like projecting forward or whatever. I don't know what the logic behind was. He. Continues to win my heart over in look more like the two thousand sixteen Al Sean. And we were hard on him in the beginning of the year and two thousand seventeen, and even throughout the year until it was like the San Francisco forty Niners game before we were like, that's what we wanted to see an even. Then we were skeptical. Then you find out he was playing the whole year with an injury. He looks faster this year. He looks healthy this year, which is super important. He's a beast. I, I heard shod six three to twenty wide receiver screens. We would have never run that last year we talked. We talked about it. The two thousand sixteen burst. He had off the line compared to the two thousand seventeen burst the adult, the line which was slower. He looks more like the two thousand sixteen. Remember when they ran the screen to him a week ago. And I was like, yo, I'll show it's got some burst to his game like he's actually getting some yards after the catch. Now, where did this dimension of his game come from? It was his worst grade trait. When even in two thousand sixteen man was getting yards after catch, didn't know how to great helix helix Hilo side tastic I tell you the eagles have a wide receiver. Core of Nelson Adler shell gives him. Entree Carter Jordan Mathews alshon Jabri it's thirty eight through wide receiver screen. They pick up the first down who got the ball Jeffries your fourth guests, right? Multiple screens. If if yet that he had the slant where he Sondhi LA apple right off the line and then broken side, which is totally legal and is just indefensible. You need to be as big as long as out on Jeffrey playing corner to deal with that. And then obviously he had two touchdown. Receptions was excellent downfield as per usual. The last play I wanna highlight just off the broadcast film, Jordan Hicks. In playing poorly as just been playing fine, had a very Jordan Haixia and game in terms of what always made him special was when he saw things faster than everybody else. The interception on the first drive, which was huge. Carson the first in Carson Santa postgame interview. It was big bras to get out early and to get the Aleve quick. By the way real quick on that, that was a Hank concept. Ally manning stared down the sit route should have gone to the flat curl and upstart down. Jordan sought brim broke on it and say, comes up with the pick replay play. The way he played it is is perfect. He so he's middle linebackers. He's got third receiver to the strong side which ends up being that tight end right when it. But if he's gotta carry that route, deep raise worried about the deep, the getting depths who doesn't get beat over the top that your first responsibility. So what you do is align backers. You open up your hips to that side as if to start strafing start sidestepping interning running down that side of the field. So Hicks, give. That open. But if you watch, he never transfers weight 'cause he knows exactly what's coming, but that's what made hick special was the anticipation of film study. So Hicks gives that open deck, look, Eli. I'm about the head down the field, but doesn't transfers weight immediately turned the drives on the little mall route pops that ball up KOMO right there. I mean, that's just high impact high quality play. It should just what you want from your football players is perfect. And then he sniff out moldable screen of flat routes before they developed right where he was already on the ball before I went to them, which is which like talking about what is pressure, let you do. Okay, we'll win. There's pressure as you know the counter is get the ball out quickly will when when your linebackers. No, the balls come out quickly. They can turn key on flat row screen routes, even faster than the usually candidates would you saw during hasty able to do and against a guy like bark me wanna get there fast before he can try to make miss. So join heck's grape performance. I'm excited to go through the alternative on this on that. See how much. Execution was really different than wasn't the other games, like how many steps there were. Whoa, who really you know, kind of brought it in a big game a, I'm going to mood on feeling. You know there's so many fun new things to see with the adjustments they made to through throughout the game on the offense that we talked about. The different things we saw from the coverage, the adjustments they made their that's gonna be fascinating to see this is so three and three football team. But I'm enjoying this moment right now because what I've said before is this team needed an old fashioned, two thousand seventeen beat down. We got one thirty four to thirteen. We made the giants quick not a. We made the Cowboys quit last year. So doing that to a division rival feels so good. A Ben, I have one more big point I wanted hit before we before we send it home. Is there anything you wanna hit on and then hit that cigarettes gentle listeners, and we'll get this bad boy up. So these so everyone can enjoy the show before they go to bed. It's already a super late. Thanks for listening against. Select show here. Videon radio dude, victory podcast, been hot, second, exciting fun to do, and especially because I wasn't able to victory podcast after the colts game. So we haven't done a victory podcast week. One has been a month, dang, shame. Glad we got to do with year. This has been kissed and Solex show here on ESPN radio. We do ratio listening and we hope you're in a better mood this time as always I've been Benjamin. So like on Twitter at measurements Zolak that's SO. He's Michael guest on Twitter at kissed NFL. So thank you so much for listening and we will catch you whenever we are back. That's a great way to put it. Yeah, we're, we're gonna get the content to you one way or another. Like Ben said, I'm not exactly sure when the film's going to drought. We'll see if it's usable this time unlike with Vikings game. But Ben last point I found a passage in Tom Holland's book Rubicon, right? This is totally on brand for me. I haven't been able to do anything Roman history in a while and I was reading today and it really scares me. I'm just gonna hang up and start exporting audio a done. It's a, it's a quick point. But so Tom Allen's book Rubicon details a civil war between Julius Caesar and poppy the great. So I found this fitting for the predicament that this team in this fan base finds itself in three and three, obviously still things to work on not all his law. So maybe I'll be the only one to make this connection. But back in fifty, three BC is a Roman statesman named Curio and he built an amphitheatre. This amphitheater had two different stages and two different banks of seats that were both balanced on a revolving pivot that would then lock the two stages and banks of seats together for the final show. So plenty. The elder set of it quote, this is where the gladiators would battle, even though the Roman people themselves as they spun round in their seats were in far greater peril than the gladiators on quote at the time as Holland points out the mood of the Republic, despite the omen of this wonder pregnant with menace was fretful, but not apocalyptic, and in this theater to entertain an appease the audience. The blood of exotic animals had to be spilled Curio specialized in Panthers. We all we got. We all we need fly eagles fly. Everybody to tell chief of the verge. That's going on with the Golden State Warriors all of a sudden they're taking on a rockets team that maybe figure stuff out with a ten point win over the nuggets last night. Pretty impressive winless. Indeed, we'll we'll discuss some high-quality association we had Amy Trask on the show talking about the Levy on bell decision. I think this part of him not showing up the rest of this year is the smart decision. He needs to make all this money back last thing. He needs to do is get hurt. You know? It's the first eleven weeks if tire tread saving once you did that, you know, you need to complete this term play. So Big Ben chimed in on that. We'll get to that. And Chris Brockman news update. The actor Michael Pinon is going to be joining us Mike del tufo, we're going to retire. His second to last pair of cargo shorts later on. Have you autograph them autograph them out? Yes. Okay. So we're going to we're going to hang a signed pair of your cargo shorts. I'm an auction off. I think okay. Somebody gave me a good idea whose somebody somebody on social media Twitter. Okay. I don't know if they wanna get mentioned. Sound for charity charity? I mean, an autograph pair of your shorts are so worn can't wear them anymore. It's Super Bowls. I mean these things are game warn game parole. There's a market for game worn memorabilia, by the way. I know we don't we don't tread into the world of politics here on the show for good reason. Right. Okay. You know, the the junior Senator of Florida who could be the senior Senator Florida in the next couple of weeks. Marco Rubio's got to do this for news item. I wasn't into hammered for calling a field goal of three point kick. Yeah. Okay. On on Twitter. He just tweeted hilarious just moments ago. I'm being roasted for three point kick tweet about election. While you think everyone follows politics knows what field goal is beside. It's absurd to claim. I don't know what a field goal is. That's all my dolphins of scored for nine straight courters. That's great. That's very good. Really funny. Really funny. Do. Out man. That's all they've scored for nine straight quarters. Rubio on the off the top rope dolphins at five and five. I mean, they're Namik man there in the mixture playoff spot, if if you know their quarterback comes back healthy 'cause I Br brought vendors not doing too well right now and new rock Tober into Brock van ver is not very good. So they need tannehill back may need the the ten L that just couldn't lose football games back. That's that's quite a a roast poll question top of hour. Number two. Let's update at Chris. What do you have over there at the Golden State Warriors the drama they have currently what's the more likely scenario for next season? Kevin Durant gone. Draymond green gone. Both gone. Both back right now. Katie gone. Forty seven percent. I would agree with that Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated here in studio will he'll be out here. And just a few short minutes. Lots of talk about with him, please that he stopping by person. Okay. Let's get to a news update. Brought to you by friends at Honda. Live men with the news. Twenty nineteen Honda courtes- sleek styling physi- sophisticated interior standard Honda sensing accords gift that keeps on giving this holiday season. So hardy you're happy holiday sales event for great deal today. Chris, okay. I up as we as we talked about levian bell. Did not show up yesterday. He's gonna sit out the rest of this season. Well, of course, Ben Rothlisberger chimed in on the subject, which he was asked about if he had spoken to levian at all during this process. Let's surprise you. The thing about is. He's not here. He's not going to be. We don't talk about it yesterday before the deadline house. You know, tech hokies show up. I decided not to wish the best. He was a great team integral ballplayer each their own on what they wanna walk away from each guy has their own motives and motivations. And you know, I can't comment on him. I am glad that we want to talk about anymore. Though detects your back. No, no, hidden, text, and pack. Don't have to talk about anymore. That's it. Good. Good point. Mike. Did he did did Ben have the read receipt on his iphone to even anything you have to turn that on? That's an option you can turn on or off. Why would you turn that off when you want to know every single time something's been read? Oh, no. It's if you owe more why would I want people to know that I've read you exactly what I want that. People could specifically turn that. I know I'm just. It's been a long time since I had a blackberry, but really you can do that. Yeah. Function that can be turned. I'll tell you this. They're better team with Levy on bell. The not they really are James Connor goes down. You're gonna want number twenty six on that roster. They're not going to have them. But the benefit is they don't have to talk about it anymore and his return doesn't have to do anything with the locker room anymore. They are all in. Now. It's James Connor show. And he has shown that he can answer the bell and better than levian did more often than not he did get concussed last time. And then we saw a Jalen Samuels and Steven Ridley that is definitely not what the Steelers need moving forward. They're better having living on bell there. But that's done. And as as Amy Trask mentioned in our number one. He's not getting that five year seventy million dollar deal. The deal that's going to be much bigger than girlies. That's going to be much bigger than. That John Odell Beckham. No like he wants to be paid like Odell. That's what he wants to be paid like and the numbers might look like that. When it all comes down to it. You look inside the contract. Nobody's going to be paying him that year four and five that and guaranteeing it right and guaranteeing giving him the guarantee. I don't think anybody's doing that. Because he if he does get suspended one more time that's a year based on what he's already accrued because he's going to be used against him. That's going to be used against him. But man is he really good. He's just the best. There is there really. And I know Conners out performing him statistically Connors lining up in the slot. He's not wanting it but wide receiver these beginning, though, the numbers he's putting up or something. Let me sneak read in Georgia and during your news up. What's going on read? Taking McCall thanks for making. Gotta take about living on. But it's hard to follow. Amateurs, I tell you kill read. Don't you got to believe these owners with the research power today? Biking cigarette. Hey, we'll start this rookie deal at five years. Every player at the minimum. On the biking. If you're good player. We can franchise you twice. So in reality. If I give certain play of that big money to own appeal certain few and thank about all this money that NFL not collected these as two years from TV corporate sponsor man lever. Bill late lever is really doing these players of favor, and they should be thankful for what he has done man because he don't open up these books. Finally, these owners medicines you talking time years plan a player at the minimum five years and a play on life span is only five years, I know red, and I appreciate what you're saying callback. Oh, you've been calling a lot lately, which is great because I enjoy the the takes here. I don't see the the Kurt flood type moment here. I don't see the the collective bargaining agreement altering stance. I don't see it. Because you know, I am seeing pass rushers getting paid like Livy eight Vernon right? He left Miami. Went to New York got eight the salary cap goes up every year. It's it's kind of ways it approaching one hundred eighty million bucks. It's going up. But they just aren't going to pay the position. They're just not they're gonna pay the player not the position. And he's basically saying I want to be paid as the player at two different positions. I don't see how this is altering anything an anybody paying somebody. Gurley got paid. Because the Rams see what he is now. And what his next five six years is going to be. So anybody that looks at Levy on balance? He's a twenty seven year old knows that they're going to get three years of some dynamite action. And then what do you do at gear age thirty one thirty two. You're not going to give them twenty five million guaranteed. I mean, it's just not gonna happen. So I don't I mean, he's going to he's going to get paid for his sake. I hope his business decision works out to the point where he gets this money back. That's what he wants. That's what he thinks. And he wants to get it from a team that's going to. You know, pay him and win a Super Bowl with. But I don't see like suddenly general managers and owners having a completely different take on how to pay running backs. Based on what he's done. I don't see that needle moving addle. I figured who tweeted it out the franchise tag, process, changing or anything. I don't see that may change outside of Lebanon bell, you know, in a couple years when the collective bargaining agreement gets hammered out again. Someone tweeted had a list of all the third and fourth fifth round running backs who are dominating the game right now. And you don't have to pay them. They're on they're on the rookie deals for about a million dollars guaranteed. I want to read this quote from my colleague at Deakin Kabbalah at the NFL media group because it really hit me. She tweeted this out and AFC front office. Exact texted me this week. I you pay the guy who throws them guy that chases the guy who throws them a guy who catches the ball thrown best. Then the guy who covers the guy catching the ball best. Then Magog who blocks the guy throwing? The running backs not in that group. No guy who runs the ball. And I don't see loving on bell situation being changed. Or his situation. Changing the way the future Levy on bells get handled who are the future of the bells, though, Kareem hunt, Chimaera Chimaera Kamerhe kids special, Matt. Mccaffrey. Saquon four net potentially for nets to banged up early on. But none of those guys. And I honestly do not mean to denigrate do not mean to denigrate honestly, and this is not my usual, caveat where do act opposite right Lebanon. Bell has been suspended those things still you they stick to you. And it will be used against to his detriment in negotiating situation. What else he wants the money between a wide receiver and running back? That's sixty million guaranteed fro del forty five guaranteed for Todd Gurley. So he wants fifty plus what he needs to do is make up the fourteen and a half he gave up this year. That's I order business. That's money. That is not coming back on less. He hits it big in this contract. And what I'm saying is circumstances of the position as well. As everything else that I've mentioned is going be a tough. It's gonna be a tough slog form. Okay. So we're monitoring the quarterback situation in Baltimore. They're playing Cincinnati this week. Joe flacco is doing with a hip injury. I guess we all assumed that it would be willmar Jackson, Mike at the start, but athletic reporting. The ravens have quote continually mentioned Robert Griffin the third as possible. All that means Lamar's not ready yet in their minds. I guess yeah. Robert outperformed Lamar Jackson in the preseason. I know we've seen Lamar in these packages for a couple of plays a game while Robert has been inactive each week, but Robert Griffin Mike at the start our g three. So keep an eye on hold on a second. This would be a remarkable story line of two thousand eighteen that nobody saw coming. If this is the case, I'm just doing extrapolate out RG three returning to the mid Atlantic returning to form to save John Harbaugh job in Baltimore. I mean, essentially what needs to happen. Yeah. Wow. Keep an eye on that one would be Brown's. Jim John Dorsey was talking this morning. Of course, asked about his head coaching vacancy did say that Greg Williams will get the chance to interview wants to season's over. I think he deserves that endorsing you won't just the interview he won't just get the letter for him to sign the contract. Once you show up. Not this time not one of the dozen job. If my hot take that from two weeks ago, by the way, I this week categorizes last week's take my hat. My last week fourth down heartache last week was at Nick Mullins would win more than Jimmy Garoppolo did last year. Yes. That was moaning. But Greg Williams winning half is games as the interim head coach of the Browns won in one so far and my full season arc of a prediction that the Browns would not choose. I ten picks of the NFL draft right now. They're on the clock eleventh overall. Okay. Come on Brown's come on they need. At least what two more wins. Probably. They need they need they need to if they go five hundred the rest of the way, okay right now. Three six and one. So they got six games left. They go five hundred six nine in one. Will do it one? We'll save ten right, right? The one we'll save the six and ten teams will be picking before. College football playoff rankings came out last night, the third week of this unchanged. Top ten exactly the same for the first time ever, Alabama Clinton too. Yeah. Notre Dame commission round out your top four Georgia Oklahoma, the one loss at five and six Notre Dame. And Syracuse tomorrow Brian Kelly on the show. Oh, yeah. Baby. Doing big doing it. That's big. We'll see these baseball awards are of trickling out here. Two weeks after the season ended Braves manager Brian snicker manager the air. And look, I get it the as were fun, but Bob Melvin manager the year with all due respect to Bob Melvin and the as you're not manager the, bro. I'm sorry. I year manager one hundred eight wins won the division. They weren't supposed to win underdogs to the World Series. Despite the hundred eight winds to Alex Cora manager the most in excuse me. It doesn't matter. How many yachts we have the trophy win something and you accomplish something you deserve those accolades. Hold on. Okay. Joy. And just can you just sit back as a New England sports fan. And enjoy the good times. No, no, not win stuff that is due to you doesn't cost in joy, the trophy understands smack just sitting here on can you just please enjoy the trophy needed to be poxy back together because Celine fits through their big tall boys at it. Okay. Can you please? Just so that in and understand that that's not the yacht that you're water skiing behind the number ferring to you have. Tom Warner has re his his got a good jillion dollars and John Henry's got a jillion dollars fine. The Red Sox have a jewel of a stadium sitting right there in Boston that everybody wants to make a pilgrimage to as have. None of that. None of it. And it was fault. Is that it's just circumstance that goes into saying good job? Bob Melvin and you go. Win their divisional put your trophy back together. And enjoy it. Please Chris Mannix. How are you, sir? I'm good. Do you understand the New England sportsman mentality? They're never happy unless they're unhappy. I mean, I've never had a Tallboy in my life. But you know, I I get the, you know, the dissatisfaction like you're always onto the next by give me the next thing. And I'm old enough to remember the nineteen ninety s bad sports teams were there. They hundred year curse. Oh, yeah. So wins I understand, but Bob Melvin can get his little moment in the sun or you not big moments. See the word little does denigrate. All right. But that's why we have an expert like Sports Illustrated senior NBA back at Sports Illustrated since the first month, Chris Mannix right here in studio. Get to see a, sir. How you do? Rich. You're not gonna tell Dan I'm here. Right. Well, he sees everything then knows everything. But you know, Dan, doesn't own you does he know he owns your your hairstyle. I know that I mean, if feels like it's almost eminent domain, he's kind of grabbed me and pulled me into his orbit. I think there's enough Mannix to go around. I like to think so as thank you went. You went to fritzy's standup. I did I did it was it was something. Look, that's that's the gutsiest things. Somebody could do I think no question and up. There do stand. I would just say this about it not to you know, people should go. See fritzy does it again whenever that may be. If I didn't know fritzy, I would've thought it was funnier. But given that I know fritzy, I know I now know a little bit too much about his personal life. To the point where rich I'm not sure I can ever be in the same room with he and his wife ever again. I understand do you have do you have the Joe Rogan line? That's the perfect now. Going full Joe Rogan now released standard understand I understand. I'm seeing Fritz you too mom doing Dan show tomorrow. I'll say I'll tell him that you say, hi, please do beyond insider report, Chris Mannix here on the rich Eisen show. What do you make of the Draymond suspension? Is it is it something that can tear the warriors asunder? Do you think Chris Mannix? I think it's something that could I'm with you that I wouldn't bet on doing it. That's a far too talented team. But it's interesting that they suspended him because a couple years ago, Draymond green. When after Steve Kerr in a locker room in Oklahoma City that to be physically separated that didn't rise to a suspension in the eyes of Golden State Warriors management this does. Now, there's a lot of questions about why this does was it something that dream onset in the locker room did in the locker room that was just different from what happened with her. Or, you know, a lot of people around the league believe this is kind of all in branch to Kevin Durant. Saying that look we're siding with you on this. We believe that you were in the right dre mom was in the wrong. We're going to send a message Raymond that was intolerable. So the wars aren't saying much people behind the scenes aren't saying much. But but this is this is different than anything Draymond done before. Well, the Draymond Kerr moment in the locker room as it was reported again during their championship run last year was seen as a watershed. Moment for the positive between two men the two men and the team in the organization is a hole that they were able to get through it. They were able to get out whatever needed to be gotten out. Is there any possibility that you see, you know, it's still early on that this could be essentially viewed in hindsight is that as well. I think it's possible because dre Moniquet d have gone added before and they've maintained a pretty strong French remember was dream on. That was the the principal guy recruiting K D all throughout his last season in Oklahoma City. But how many times can you keep sort of doing that rich? How many times can keep having these blow up right in thinking it's going to become a positive with this team. I I know there are some veterans inside that locker room that you know, the last couple years have been getting a little tired of being the adults in the room drain on his beloved team. There's no question about that. But the the heart on your sleeve over motions stuff. I know it does wear on people inside that locker room. Now. I don't know how that. Manifest itself this year, but moving forward, you know, people have suggested could be the last year, we see time we Oakland or this Golden State team together with Durant. They may look to move off a drain on green after this year. They may look to do some different things if Kevin Durant decides to leave via free agency, which is what a lot of people around the league believe any which I can't tell you. I mean, I've covered a lot of big name free agents over the last ten years there are people, and they don't necessarily have direct knowledge of Durant. But there are people that believe unequivocally that Durant's gone like no question. Like, no, no way. Not even a chance. He goes back to goals that you smart people people. I talk to all the time that never say stuff like this that believe unequivocally that Kevin Durant is going somewhere else. So if those smart people know that Draymond greens, no dummy than maybe that's what is the base of him reportedly talking about his impending free agency in in the heat of a moment of an actual NBA game. That's being played out. I mean member Steve. Kerr said that, you know, free instant nothing to do with it. I don't really believe that. I think whatever was said the specifics that were said behind the scenes, I think Duran's free agency is playing into some of the tension that tension was kinda masked over in the early part of the season because they were playing great basketball. I saw them play two games in New York and the narrative wasn't Durant's freezing necessarily, even when he's going through New York. It was wow, you guys are off to a better start than you were last year Durant and Steph curry, they're more instinct than ever before they made that video the Ferdie video inside the Knicks locker room, everything is going. Well, but I think there there are cracks in. There are a have been cracks in that foundation that an incident like this certainly brings to light. And then there's the question Chris Mannix Sports Illustrated here on the richeisenshow there is the question of does that mean, they don't win this year. I don't see another team that's going to be because they are lead pipe willing professionals up there in Golden State. They do understand maybe what they have right now. Who could be the team that takes advantage of whatever injuries that they do suffer. How long Curry's out or whatever is going on in the locker room doesn't get papered over doesn't get smoothed over somehow, someway, whatever happened last year in the locker room that they were able to get past that was revealed was actually going on they want who could be the team anywhere on this NBA landscape that would be able to take advantage in shock in the Western Conference. You don't see it because Houston took a step back. I mean, I don't know they'll turn it around and somewhere there to talent did not to get back into that playoff mixed. But they're not the team that they were last year. The biggest mistake the rockets made was not paying Trevor Ariza and not paying Luke mob Mugabe and not just bringing the band back together. It was up three to Golden State in that conference finals after that. I'm big on Utah. But I don't think Utah's ready. I think Portland we spent a lot of home games. I don't think there on that level yet. I don't see Western Conference team. You actually have to look in the Eastern Conference, which the top of is really. Good right now. I mean Toronto is legit. Nobody not enough. People talk about how good the Toronto. Raptors are you put Kawai Leonard onto that team? A team of players that everybody knows their role. Everybody knows exactly what they're supposed to do. And it's completely comfortable doing it. You add it all the way back wiler into that mix. There are sixty sixty five win team. If they stay healthy this year. I think Boston's going to figure it out. So I think the challenge for Golden State is not gonna come from one of the Western Conference opponents, but somebody that comes out of the so then then we're talking about June, which means what happens now in in mid-november, Mike the question, I would wonder how do they make a deal to not involve other guys? Nobody's getting traded off that team this year. They know what they have in Golden State, but they make a deal maybe to bring in another veteran. They've had success with you know, elder statesman in that locker David west was a good example, a tremendous locker room God that they lost retirement after this year today, go out and try to recruit one of those guys, you know, either before the trade deadline or when they get. Via free agency to inject some more life into that lock on and on. I mean, boogie cousins looked to be the peacemaker that. I mean, this is this is what we've come to. I mean, I I kind of I wrote something a few weeks back like, you know, this worries team almost are cast like, you know, they might actually be good. If they get a five time all star back into the mix. Now, it's like we're counting on boogie cousins to come back and be the stabilizing force in that log boogies, the peacemaker boogies, the guy that will make everything. Okay. And that makes its having covered him in Sacramento ad nauseam. What he did out there? It's wild even think that I mean, he was doing it at at that very moment Chris Mannix here in the Honda insider report asking the poll question, Chris, what do you have over? We're looking at this drama, Chris, what's the more likely scenario for the warriors next year? Durant gone Draymond gone via trade both gone or both back. I think Durant gun easily the most likely mean dream on's. He's got another year on that contract. I believe. Yeah. So. I don't think they extend him. I don't I you know, he's going to be over thirty. When that time comes to pay him a guy like dream on that doesn't shoot the ball. Well, doesn't have great size. They don't age particularly well in the NBA. And I think the war's will have a number that they want to offer dream on won't go any higher, but Durant's going to walk away at the end of this year, most likely most likely scenario Durant thirty years old he's gonna have multiple championships under his belt three championships under his belt and a blank slate. Nobody can say you've never want championships. You can do whatever you want. That's why I think New York continues to be the most likely destination because he can go there. And we know that winning a championship in New York would mean more than two or three championships anywhere else. They haven't won since the early seventies. They've been so dysfunctional really for the last two decades going to New York and winning something would be an incredible feather in Durant's cap, and he can also this means it to him. But he could also do LeBron James declined to do the brand declined to go to New York and take on the. Challenge. That is the Knicks. He could go there and maybe when a championship which the Brunton. I don't think he wants to play with the body of the rich people like to put him when you when you're a player, not just Durant. But when you reach a certain threshold of championships, you no longer wanna be the guy that helps LeBron win championships. You wanna be the guy that becomes the LeBron generation? You wanna be the Koby this generation the Michael generation you wanna win the most championships of any player. Niro, that's what is would keep Durant from going to Los Angeles. Let's let's talk about this a little bit more with you, Chris Mannix, kind of plays into a handful of things that. We're already hearing Kawais happy that he could be the Paul George of two thousand nineteen free agency by staying put wherever he's been traded to in a way that you didn't think would be possible. And then from what you're saying Durant would leave Golden State, but to do his own thing, which would in my mind leave? Golden State showering a whole bunch of money on. Klay Thompson which everybody here in. Los Angeles says Claes coming here is gonna play for daddy. Michael's team come back and team would LeBron exactly the type of player that they need in a in a three point challenged shooting. Roster of we're gonna find that nobody wants to come and take that max contract from Johnson. Is that what you're saying? I think it's possible or it's someone you don't necessarily think is worthy of the max contract. You overpay. Somebody maybe it's the markets cousins. When he it's free agency from gold state. We know he's not going back there, but the Jimmy Butler trade to Philadelphia, you know, the Sixers don't make that deal unless they're confident they can either bring him back or willing to give him the five year deal guarantee that he comes back. I don't know. I mean, it's way too early with ally. And the and the raptors, but I've always believed rich, and I've written this that the people around Kawai Leonard, I don't know if they necessarily spoke for what Colli Leonard wanted. I mean Kawais always been a guy that just wants to win wants to get well. Paid and focus on basketball. He's on a team with a bunch of twentysomethings that he can grow with that bench that people probably can't name with a roster sheet in front of them with the pass Calcio comes the OJ Nobis. These guys are really good players and really young players of Leonard is looking at the next five seven eight years of his career. The best place to win is in Toronto with the rappers. We don't know what the Lakers going to be the next few years. We don't know what the clippers are going to be the next few years. He has a good idea. What Toronto is going to be interesting that you bring up the clippers because I you don't need to be told about how the NBA narrative works. You. Clearly, you're you're part of that machine. And it is a narrative generating machine that's just like the NFL feels the same way that there's every something from all the time. But one way that NBA think outstrips the NFL is that the narrative that always get sold out there. There's a sub is an undercurrent that everybody starts talking about in the undercurrent usually takes center stage in the same way that nobody might wanna play with. Lebron and take that max contract that the clippers might eventually be viewed as the more viable choice for free agent to come here to do their own thing. You know match Taylor swift for a number of banners in in in in. Staples. I went to the kings game last night. There's a Laker banners all over the place. And then there's you know, the the the WNBA banners up there from the the LA sparks, right? And then you've got Taylor SWIFT's. There's nothing from the clippers in there. So somebody could come to Los Angeles and create their own whole cloth dynasty or legacy. I think it's it's appealing and the clippers. I think have done well, especially with their recent draft pick shea Gilda Alexander. He's a player. I think he's going to be a real player in this league. They've got a functional organization right now. The Lakers at the moment are dealing with some dysfunction. We don't know at the end of the year. If Luke Walton is going to be that coach Doc Rivers signed up for the long-term Lawrence Franks in charge there. They've got an excellent front office area was. I say I was gonna say my colleague Lee Jenkins now. Okay. My bad. I was told he was running now. So I don't mean that the new logo, but but yet, they're they're functional. And and when you talk to agents of pending free agents one thing that's come up a lot in the last four or five years is the functionality of franchises. Like is the coach going to be there for the long term is the GM entrenched at that position ownership do they get involved. I mean, the big problem Phoenix right now is Robert who who's one of the most meddlesome hands on owners in the NBA. The Lakers are the clippers rather seemingly have a pretty solid base. From ownership with Steve bomber to Lawrence. Frank, Doc, Rivers and everything in between. That means a lot the Knicks this year. They're big pitch to Kevin Durant isn't look at Mitchell Robinson. He's a great player or come play with Frank Neale Akina porzingas may not even come back this season. They don't care about that. All they want to do is look functional to have Scott Perry lead their front office and David fizzed ill be their head coach. And we send can we send JD out with the. Straight shot, then all for problems and him how about he. And and and the the unicorn stops spaces we send we send Dolan with the straight shot to eastern Europe, going tour, go go see where lamelo hung out. And then, you know, bring the purple unicorn back, and we do that you're not JD in the station. He's gonna please last one for you here last one for you, Chris Mannix. What was Dwayne Wade referring to when he said that Carmelo Anthony was being the scapegoat. And we all know what the real thing is here. I haven't gotten a straight answer on that. What was he referring to? I I don't know what exactly he was referring to. It's either the owner. I mean, it's either the general manager the coach or harden who is at gotta guess if I guess I would say harden. It always comes down to the player. I mean, that's the guess on my part. But when I saw that tweet and ask people about it. Most people said it's just more of a full throat defensive Carmelo Carmelo has a lot of friends in the NBA even the places he doesn't work out New York, Oklahoma City now Houston, everybody likes him all the players in that locker room want to play with them, the Oklahoma City guys would just like it just didn't work with Paul George Russell Westbrook alongside him. So he has got a lot of allies in the league. And this notion that's out there rich of he should retire. Or it's his. Fault or he can't adjust to a secondary role. Some of that stuff may be true. But it doesn't change the perception of why think Carmelo is not going to retire is gonna wind up either in Miami. With Dwayne Wade or Portland with the blazers and continue to try to make something of the final chapter of career. All right last one four year because Philly dot com just reported out of Philadelphia is coming off the bench Rex started. With Butler's first games surprise you. What do you think I should have been coming off the bench all along? I mean, the strategy of playing Marco full with the starters. They had a bizarre strategy. I mean, I was at a couple of Sixers games this season. They play full too, many minutes, they can the first half. And then because they can't rely on him. He plays like somebody's plays three five seven in that second half. If you're going to rebuild Markelle Fultz confidence you have got to put him in a position to succeed as the primary ball handler. He was never going to be that guy with Philadelphia because Ben Simmons is the ball in his hands. And certainly not with a high usage rate guy like Jimmy Butler in that lineup. I think this is a gift for the Sixers if. They hope to re- rediscover rebuil- Marquel. Full which I'm not sure as possible in Philadelphia. This with the second unit the best way to do it. Congrats and getting back in Sports Illustrated, accurate check by phone is Dan texted. You're in the clear right now. I am. Okay. Yeah. None of the dannettes of text either.
