"My husband's pretty nontraditional from that point. You know he helps with housework but I have had friends who have said while your husband's amazing there is no way my husband would ever let me do what you do say and I say let me do. My husband would not be my husband if he didn't let me do by job so this must be a little bit of a oddity for your husband's to take you out in their Italian circles. He's very lucky. Though with my husband because being from the south some of his friends would say. How do you let your wife travel as tour manager? Joe Hat notion. How do you let your way right two weeks away? We knows what she's doing those two weeks and let her right like permanent shock. Give permission and she's like an was saying you don't know what she's doing every night. I'd probably indicating that you should not be comfortable. Letting them out for the trust factor. That is a very important thing in any marriage at does matter what nationality you are but how does it work in? Italy? I mean in in France. It's kind of understood. A lot of men will have a mistress Is that acceptable in Italy? Or have you guys said. I'm an American and it's just not going to go or is that also the same standard in Italy Lisa Karen. Any ideas on that whether it's not going to go with me either. Italian CULTURE IN GENERAL. This this is commonplace. You know literally. Italian divorce is hard to get if you need a divorce. So people have an affair before they get divorced and it's actually better than at once. Was it used to be seven year separation before you could be legally divorced now. It's a three year separation before you can legally divorce so a lot of affairs are actually. These are dead marriages. You just can't have a divorce. Of course she's having a fair because this love is dead she is also a little more spoken. I mean I. I don't know that the rates are any higher than in the United States. But here it's very much you don't talk about it and people are looked down upon if they've had an affair instead over there. I think people realize that it happens. People are not considered horrible people because they've had an affair in part because it's so hard to get a divorce in this Catholic country Italy right empire. Yeah yeah they don't have the financial means either. The sometimes the women in order to get a divorce so everybody does her own thing but lives under commune roof and I think we should this. I don't want to have a Downer here but it's easy to fall in love with Allesandro again years later. He's not quite the same shape. Not Quite the same sort of Attraction and you've got kids and you've got a heavy traditions. You has mentioned complicated but I want to dispel some myths too. I think that Italian you know. Not all Italian men are Don Giovanni's no absolute are out there hitting on women left and right you know. Lots of people assume that Italian men are very loose with their morals. Yeah loose with their morals and dedicated to their families or the women in their lives traveled sixties. We're talking about marrying into Italy. And any surprises. You may encounter. I just like to finish with each of you. Just finished with one of the joys of your married life in Italy you as an American. Who married him to Italian culture and long I really at the appreciation for family I. I had a inlaws above my head. They lived above my head for the whole time and it was just the closeness of having support system there that they were very caring with each other and although it seemed interfering. They were together Lisa Anderson I would agree with that. You know that now that I don't have that support system. I realized what I had and there were times where I just wanted to strangle my mother-in-law because it felt so an invasive you know she had our best interests at heart and all in all now that they're gone you miss them. I miss them and I also appreciate if I can add one more thing the way they raised my husband and how dedicated he is to us to his wife and his kids beautiful. Karen Kuby. I'm going to slip food in here. I am incredibly appreciative of my mother-in-law's cooking. I am credibly appreciative of my husband that sits in lingers. Even if we're just eating a frozen pizza and we sit in the kitchen and we talk every single night and when we go to dinner together even by ourselves it is very likely to be a three hour long dinner and I really have a great appreciation for the love of food that the Italians haven't how integrated it is into our lives. Our daily lives and how much it means for our families out to be together and eat beautiful thing the hearth is a very important to sacred place in the Italian family. Also sit down every day and long CAIRN Kibi Lisa Anderson. Thank you so much and best wishes thank you. Remind me of my Italian nephew. Who's studying offerman? His neck covered protecting his voice and unsure. You're particularly interesting. I've just sort of innovated this. This really helps me. Is that right. Excuse my first. You've good. Well you are clearly telling him so. For a few years ago adventure cyclist willy wear shared a teal with us a very romantic surprise that he and his then fiancee enjoyed well on a down and dirty cycling trip around hungry. I thought you'd enjoy another chance to hear what happened. Well actually it doesn't start out too. Well Rick I just asked my wife to marry me. I propose to her in Hungary and Budapest. She had joined me and this was her first bicycle trip so she had never traveled a bicycle before and she'd been Gal by all the stories that I had and whatever it when I had forgotten is that there's a lot of time on the road where things are just boring and flat. But you don't tell those stories later so we head off from Hungary and we travel the first night and she's been re cowed by people inviting us in when we get to the end of the day all there is. Is this swampy mosquito infested area off the side of the road where no places stay we set up our tents and you know we give a half pint of blood to the mosquitoes and we get up the next day and I look at cat and she gets on the bicycle seat and I see her eyes and they just ballooned to the size of oranges and I said. Can you describe what you're feeling? And she said if it hurt any worse I'd throw up now. She was telling me what it feels like to be somebody on the first day of a bicycle trip. So I'm thinking oh I'm in trouble. I mean things needed change fast. We get through the next day another swamp another horrible tent experience. And I'm thinking I don't have many days left before the person I've just asked to marry me is gonNA head home. We head into this little town. It's a little tiny Hungarian town and I am desperate. I'm looking for something to change. They're going to lose exactly and I come into this church. And there's this sign posted on the door and it says there's going to be an event that but it's an it's an Magyar the local language so I have no idea could be a boy scout troop or whatever but there's a vent that nice cat. Let's stay in town and we're GONNA go to this event. Oh and I'm just thinking. Hopefully we stay. The local priest. Says there's a place we can park bicycles in the church and we we get there and we get in the back. Pew There and at seven o'clock something's going to happen. The few pugh start to fill up and finally in walks in all of these men and they walk up to the front of the Church and ends up being an award winning Italian men's chorus. The conductor lifted his hand. And that little church echoed with the most beautiful sounds ever. I mean just goosebumps everywhere..

"If you want one of the best biblical manuals for who you WanNa Hook your life to. You would turn under glaciers five nineteen through twenty. Three Paul tells you what to avoid and he tells you what to look for. Glaciers five thousand nine hundred twenty twenty-three. He says the acts of the sinful nature obvious. These are red flags sexual immorality. Does he put his pleasure above your standing and integrity ready before God impurity. Are they drawn to the crude debauchery idolatry and witchcraft men. You go into her dorm room. And she's sticking needles into funny looking dolls. Get Out of there. That's a really bad sign. Hatred Discord Jealousy. You know they always seem to be at odds with everybody. Fits fits of rage. We've already talked about violence selfish ambition. They don't have in mind the things of God but themselves. Dissensions factions envy drunkenness orgies. And like he's talking about addictions there and I would say. Please be very careful here singles because we know neurologically that in one sense sense addiction stamp our brains and it is hard to ever walk out of them and we're always more susceptible once we've given away to creating the neuro pathway of an addiction addiction and I've seen addictions costs so much grief in marriage. I think self control is vastly under eight. Okay those are the things that should give us concern but look at this worry. Says this is what you want to look for. This is what is so powerful. But the fruit of the spirit is love joy Roy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness and self control now the challenge. He's a those words are so familiar. They're like cliches. You've you've heard them and you don't even really understand their power and so I'm just praying that God could make these words come alive for you right now. Just imagine what it would be like to marry somebody who is motivated and filled with love. They I love God they love you. They love on others. That's just their motivation. How that would inspire you? How that would bless you? How would would encourage you to grow in? Love yourself joy. We live in a dark world with a lot of frustrations Alana. Awful things going on. Imagine marrying somebody who has a supernatural well well of joy however dark things get they have a real joy because God's work is within them and is so powerful. You if you WANNA marry e or you can marry your sometimes it might be Fonda. Go off with tigger for a little bit so look for joy peace. Do you WanNa marry the drama Queen. Green Drama King. Or do you want to have somebody say look God has got this patience. Let me speak to them in for just a second year the Bible tells us we all stumble in many ways we mess up and if we Maria wife. WHO's not patient? We're GONNA make her miserable and she's GonNa turn around and make us miserable when you know you mess up marrying. Somebody who doesn't have patience is sort of like drafting a quarterback who can't throw the ball. It doesn't make sense. It's a necessary skill for the position. It is a necessary skill for marriage to stay close to keep growing closer to have patients cents for each other kindness goodness faithfulness. These are wonderful things. Gentleness you're not always harsh self control they're protecting your family family they're creating boundaries because your spouse can bring so much grief to you and your kids if they don't know self control. Now here's what's so powerful about this list. Here's why Oh. I think this is the list that you want to look off the three things of the world that we talked about infatuation we know neurologically. It Fades Sexual Chemistry Story. It fades day compatibility it fades as well because when you have a mortgage and you're raising kids and you're dealing with all these other issues date. Compatibility goes out the window. The things that the world picks and too many Christians. Frankly have nothing to do with long-term satisfaction marriage but if you base your decision the fruit of the spirit. Here's what's so amazing. The fruit of the spirit groves because God makes it grow the sources and in the person the sources God within them kindness gets wider piece. Gets deeper goodness goes higher wisdom them as is increasing on a regular basis. And so if you fall in love with someone for that reason you will love them more at year. Twenty and thirty and forty than you ever for did at day twenty or month twenty or year two and so not only. Are you giving your children apparent parents who will model the effects of Christ and the life and that will invite them to embrace that same savior. You're also bringing along a partner partner with whom shoulder to shoulder arm in arm hand in hand you can serve God and that will give your marriage meaning it will give you purpose. It will give the two of you something to talk talk about and something to pray about and let me just say it will give you one of the happiest marriages you can possibly we give because you know as good as it is now because of the work of God. It's going to get even better. Thank you Jerry. Thomas with a blueprint for a truly happy marriage urge on today's episode of focus on the family.
