"Matt broke up That's hard That's hard What do you want to say to mat That you miss a minute hurts I want to play that for a mat This goes out to you Matt patty lover by Lionel Richie That's great to spit ever That sounded like Kyle rittenhouse yesterday A little bit I'll let Carl first do all my talking Trump to take Carl Let's talk to our fancy fairfax county school board friendship Call for dot com Hi hi Carl fresh hi good morning Good morning delight By the way our friend pop says tweeted if you want people to think of you as masculine Don't be a stop talking about how masculine you are in three you get a tiny vaccination and do your part for your nation instead of whining about it I mean is it not someone like tweeted the cover in house thing and said boy Brett Kavanaugh's lost a lot of weight I mean it's just this is because his gay men you probably have heard this all your life right about being you know we'll see you're being feminine in some way And this is masculinity to the right wing murdering two innocent people and then blubbering about it Yeah Yeah it is Sorry this wasn't really a multiple choice question No it is You know the false bravado is an epidemic there And it's unfortunate that we feel like as a society that we have to put these we have to put people in these boxes and that they have to perform a certain way for us they're not men enough They're not woman enough whatever But I was saying right wing men am I wrong They're always crying about themselves Like John boner this kind of written house I mean I mean that's their empathy right Yeah But if you have empathy for anyone else then you're see liberal your French and gay I mean it's just all right So Paul let's talk about obviously inflation has become I swear to God It is so on cue the right wing is just whatever's bad for Biden It doesn't matter if it's bad for America They're rooting for it right Like how do we how do we you know make the prolong the pandemic so it's bad for Biden And it's just this is inflation thing feels like just gotcha right I mean it's like or you're not gonna get your toys for Christmas and it's Joe Biden's fault and it's a couple of hang on A couple of tweets I was stuck by Nick newson said yes prices are going up for consumers Why Trump and the GOP sabotaged the COVID response with anti vast anti mask science denying BS that caused longer shutdowns and backed up the supply chain If they'd acted like responsible adults we wouldn't be in this position Where's that media coverage Nick also tweeted dear media when covering rising consumer costs invite economists to describe the global context on the many COVID related factors at play If you bring on left knee and righty pundits to point fingers and shout you're committing journalistic malpractice I won't hold my breath Right Well you know the other thing to think about when we talk about the rising cost of goods is how much profit are the companies that make those goods making Yeah Right You have in many cases multi $1 billion companies that are raking in record profits and rising the prices of their goods You know if there was true competition in the marketplace as an example you look at pampers There's only two major companies that make diapers in companies that make diapers in the United States And so they can rake in profits that can pay their executives millions and millions of dollars more And raise prices on consumers all while blaming supply chains or whatever else even though that may not be the issue Yeah Yeah and also right wing men were using most of the diapers for themselves because they're whiny little Oh I'm sorry I was just you know what Well I have a theme car It's hard to get me off of it Diapers Oh anyway but I mean okay first of all it's like right Travis you said secretary Pete said yesterday I mean most experts say this is temporary and the thing that solves it is solving COVID Yeah And they're doing everything they can to not solve COVID By you know they're going to be helping with the mandates and getting this over They're fighting them right And trying to it's just okay This is the long tail of the pandemic Right And it's only going to get longer if people don't do their part Yeah Get your shots where your masks do your part But as a former political strategist where was this piece I was reading stuff has become more expensive in the U.S. Democrats are feeling the political pressure in Virginia Republicans ran ads blaming Democrats for price increases As you know there's always a reality And then there's a political reality right And we have to get out in front of this before 2022 right This analysis saying the state of the economy is weird at the moment rising wages paired with unprecedented financial relief from the government has actually left families with some savings which is pretty rare in an economy that's coming out of a recession Again this was the biggest disruption panned up since World War II It was the biggest disruption in our economy Obviously the pandemic's not over So this is going to take a second right But it says because families are suddenly able to spend the heightened demand has put it unmanageable strain on global supply chains that are still being disrupted by the ongoing pandemic but it's not like the pandemic is completely over either The workforce is not back to where it was before COVID ravaged the economy Janet Yellen said this is a short term issue inflation will calm down next year as the demand for goods relaxes and supply chains improve And also the build back better plan.

What we'll remember from the 2020 Biden convention

"For more on Biden's speech. In this week's historic virtual Democratic convention we're joined by two guests in Massachusetts Dr. Cornel. West with a professor of the practice of public. Philosophy at Harvard. University author of numerous books including race matters and black prophetic fire. His new podcast called the tight rope in two thousand Seventeen Cornell Westwood's in Charlottesville with. Neo Nazis stormed the campus he and other clergy members were protected by anti-fascists from the mob white supremacists and in Baltimore Maryland were joined by Ben Jealous Precedent people for the American way former president of the ACP. He ran for governor of Maryland in two thousand eighteen we welcome you both to democracy. Now, Ben Jealous congratulations on your new position as head of people for the American way. Why don't you start off by responding to this week's Democratic convention your thoughts on. Where the two now nominees the. President not presidential nominee, Joe Biden and historic a selection of Kamla Harris, to be his running away their positions and how. They represent what you do or not. Theme this convention was really one of unity. This was a time. When we have to come together to defeat a president, who is the most evil the most corrupt than any of us have seen and That says a lot. It also was the time we saw two two nominees who we as progressives. No, we can work with. Kamla. Sister who introduced her Maya. The former head of the ACLU of northern. California. Kamo ran for D. A. and much more conservative time and yet did so as outspoken opponent of the death penalty who then held her ground early in term when she was tested, would an officer was killed an the entire liberal establishment northern California came down on her and she said the death penalty is wrong period. Tremendous Kirch and Joe Biden who Bernie himself said is poised to be the most progressive presidents since FDR. And so while it's not Bernie. And while maybe it's not somebody else someone hope for what we do know is that these are people that we can work with. These are people who their best represent our best values literally the daughter of civil rights activists, the sister of a civil rights lawyer who are self told me fifteen years ago she became a prosecutor because it wasn't enough to just fight the power. We also had to hold the POW. And I've seen her act courageously. So I'm I'm very hopeful and I have no doubt that we can work with. Joe. Like addy who spoke so beautifully, and that was the true highlight for me. I believe that we must move towards Medicare for all I also believe that Joe Biden will take us further in that direction certainly. Donald. Trump and frankly further than most presidents that that that we have an opportunity here to move things in the right direction again and as organizers. That's the most important thing to get out of any presidential election is a president that you can move in the right direction. and Professor Cornel West your reaction to this week in the positions of the Democratic candidates for president if I president. Day My points of reference really are the freedom dreams that we just heard from zoom commodores and genius Lionel Richie. Of Ella, Baker, who was invoked by brother Biden and the first sentence. Of his speech the Alabama who was a revolutionary L. A. Baker who was working on the mass party organizing committee would offer annoy the Great William Kuntsler for actually working for third parties because he thought, she thought that the two party system was so decrepit and then also to Curtis Mayfield that they've been playing over and over again, the move on up but you got to move on from poverty. And in order to do it, you gotTa Talk About Poverty. If you go move on from Wall Street greed and Wall Street crimes, you gotTa talk about, Wall Street Green Wall, street cry go move on up from the Pentagon militarism around the world you gotTa talk about it. Those are the taboo issues that we don't get serious wrestling with. So when you really. Talk about the soul of America, the battle for the soul of America much of that so has been evacuated by the Pentagon, cry greed and the Wall Street greed and the inability of the police and other institutions at treat black people and Brown people, Indigenous People as human beings so I agree with brother. Ben. In terms of being part of an anti fascist coalition. That I think we're forced to vote for buying, but we're not going to lie about buying. WE'RE NOT GONNA lie about Harris. We're going to tell the truth about their. Captivity and their. Refusal to hit Pentagon money spending and militarism around the world at Wall Street, green and. Speak substantively to issues of poverty you can have massive protests all around the country, the largest in the history of country, you can have brother Barbara. Assisted theorist talking about poverty, and then when you get to the convention, you get this spectacle that has nothing to do with wrestling with poverty. I think court breath corey was the only one that even talk about it for the most part none of the major figures did thank God that Bernie thank God LLC. Got A little ninety minutes as opposed Republic Ninety Second Major. Sometimes. Ninety seconds, Ninety seconds so that I you know I'm I'm with Ben in terms of we got the vote for Biden but never ever lying about him and not coming to terms with the fact that. This moment with the decline and fall of the American empire it looks as if the system is unable to generate enough energy to seriously reform itself, it remains sanitized superficial. We getting Lawrence Wealth bubbles rather than prince the revolution I want to go to the Princess Revolution Concert I walk fundamental change.

Here's Which Judges Are Returning For the Next Season of 'American Idol'

"So American Idol's judges table is going to remain the same for another season. Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan are all coming back. And so is Ryan Seacrest, host. This is the American Idols four season on ABC in the new season. It is expected to premier sometime next year. You know, cool. I'll just go on not watching it. I will. As usual, I will say it's It's kind of fascinating that they've not chosen to make any changes. I feel like now is the time if they were planning on doing them to do them, as in dancing with the stars making their changes, So I mean, you know, that actually says something without actually doing

Do One of these acoustic songs. Everybody's doing and He's starts to play in. There's a snake under him on the picnic table freaks out and takes off running pretty funny but all jokes aside I get real with Caroline Hobby pretty cool where she talks to a lot of the wives of country stars. Interesting interesting ideas talked a lot of really strong women. But why to this? As you know is music podcast. What's great about this one? This episode is that since. We got a lot of good ones up here for some of your favorite stars all right by your work going on how you doing. Oh you know just the same thing gram over here like everybody you know I. I saw some of the stuff. We're on your tour bus. Are you out there for a reason? So you don't get your wife or kids sick or what's the story behind that because we went out we were at that festival in Europe One of the shows was in Berlin right when the big outbreak head over there and so like when I got home you know. We came home early because it the travel ban hit halfway into our trip. But I just I had been to like Amsterdam Berlin Stockholm and Oslo. And I've been like six planes and I was just like you know if this can take fourteen minutes for fourteen days for sympathy show. I feel fine now. But what if I start having symptoms and I've already holding my baby and sleeping in bed with my wife and I just didn't want to take the risk of you can fake it sometimes. Hey what was that? Like when you're in Europe and you know in the early part of Corona and we're kind of figuring out that it's a pretty real thing and you know some of our institutions are going to be moved because of it in your out of the country. What happens to you I over there? It was pretty scary. The second show was Was Berlin and the afternoon of the show like three o'clock. There government came out and said like no gatherings of I think it was five hundred at the time or bigger and I don't know how because that was at three o'clock still played the show I headlined was like four thousand people so I don't really i. That was kind of scary because they're saying it's not safe to have that big approve and we're just playing our show anyway But I think you know as it went on. That was the beginning of of other government. Starting you put that restriction on on public gatherings and stuff and by the time we were in Oslo We had one club show left before we were GonNa go to the UK and play the other big three arena shows and like an hour before the show. Their government came out and said Like fifty people or less than we're going to this is this is like we're being irresponsible by staying over here so we actually booked our flights home like two hours before trump came out with the travel ban so it was It was I I mean. I don't think it's I think people over here think that it's a little bit crazier over in Europe. It felt kind of the same everybody anxiety. is kind of palpable. Just like it is here right now. but it was just weird to not be home and know that you were running the risk of maybe getting stuck over there. Did you ask how much flights costs to get back or did you just go? GimMe all I know how much they cost it was. It was definitely a low blow. Yeah you don't WanNA share I mean I know honestly I don't want to be It's it's pay. I will say this because we booked ours two hours before the travel ban. Yeah we got them before. They went up to like an unreasonable number. And I know some people that waited I know ours. Ours doubled from when we bought him to two hours later. And who makes that call in your group? Was it you going. Hey we got to go It wasn't we had our finger on that button the whole time and it was The the club shows I was playing in Stockholm and Oslo. Were just Me and my music records are just two guitars. Little 'cause Dick Loves and So my manager was actually on that run they were just for us and it was kind of me and my manager like watching the news on the regular but we both looked at each other when the when the Oslo at the venue in the show got cancelled and we went. We gotta go. It was like we like you know you make eye contact with somebody and you know you're on the same page. Yeah it was one of those deals. So yeah I mean he wouldn't. He wouldn't have pulled that trigger without me But it was something that we knew was a possibility the whole time so you get off the plane and since you knew all this happening you didn't hug your wife or kiss your baby or anything like that. No so all I did. Was I went home? I left all my luggage. My backpack my suitcase. everything in the garage because it can live on surfaces for three days. I undressed in the garage Showered through my towel straight into the laundry through stuff in a bag and drove to the bus. What are you doing for food? Not You don't have like maybe cheerios from bus stock. But how you eating We had some stuff I had probably two days worth of food But then I've been doing in Takhar like grocery orders and just having them leave it outside the bus and then wiping down every item with wipes one at a time before I put it. Bring it into the bus. I'm assuming you feel alright healthy right just almost you almost done with this right great. Yeah I feel I don't have any symptoms and You know when I decided to do this. They were still saying it. Takes five days to show symptoms and then on Day Two? They changed it to fourteen and I was like. Oh I thought joke on me. Are you doing any solo writing while you're on the bus? I've kind of mess with it a little bit. But I'm you know with everything that's going on in like there's a ton of business decisions to be made right now as shows are getting postponed and moved in all of that that I kind of. It's been hard to put on the creative hat. I definitely have a guitar in here that I've been like fooling around with and it usually ends up just not going anywhere because I got too many other things on my mind so Once I get home and I've got WIFI situation. Start doing like virtual rights and stuff. But I just haven't really been I haven't really had the but To be creative if you don't have wi fi or a strong signal. Are you able to watch Netflix? Yeah so luckily The streaming things not happening but Direct TV has all the movie channels. Alkyl so I've I've seen every movie in the world now. Well what's good? What did you watch it was gay? 'cause I'm struggling now a little bit except for Tiger King on Fox. I'm just searching around. Yeah I've I've I've so once I get home tiger kings. My wife started. He started. And she's sticking You Know I. I don't know if you follow my sows. But one day I literally watched all of the Rockies. "Premieres tonight at eight seven central on ABC you know that they could doesn't come in the audition right and Lionel Richie has become our in the most loving way are sort of parental figure on the show right like I like that I like that I like that that's what you do for everything we have some kind of sense okay right we are grounded it through the legs in the feet of Lionel Richie but if the man he will judge you but he will also often times connecting care so much for a contestant Betty stands up and walks out to the mark where they are and he embraces the yeah right exactly and why don't you do you wanna know why I did yes yes why because you see there are some people who are just frozen they have two things either just frozen from fear for number two sometimes you look at they may you hear their story and they they don't have a mom they don't have a dad they never had anyone to care about them SO right in the middle of this all of this lights and cameras and everything do you realize what they needed a hug they need some kind of reassuring moment where they go and you can feel them I feel them sink right into my arms because they've never had this connection and I realize I'm stop us he is he's probably realized that I mean I know that I'm told me that you know judging the whole thing and the lights and useful the same before a brief moment based shops needs a hug but I have to tell you Ryan being with you on the show and we've been together for years now this is probably the most exciting thing I've ever done a long time because it breaks the mold of being prepared for something yeah that's right you we walk on the set and we are not prepared for I'd love to tell everybody it is not scripted yeah we walk on that stage and we don't know what's coming and what you see on that and of course they love it they love it when they catch us off guard because when I'm there for this that's all great television but I'm saying to you it is a moment where I have finally gotten to the point where I can relieve my fears you know everything my mother would say to me about shares I am not prepared to what's coming on America that implies the beauty and you can see Lionel Katy Perry look myself tonight start eight o'clock I'm excited all right buddy so excited love you love you to death okay bye love you back to talk to you guys okay but I know that by Lionel Richie zero eight forty with Ryan Seacrest for did a full I don't know you you and don't what started out taken the four spot the man.

"The eighties Lionel Richie who helped organize this piece of music history tells CBS that night was the most magical time ever because I ask Quincy that night how we gonna do this is everyone going to be in a room separate in places I don't know we're all going to be in a circle now the only way you can pull that off is everybody in that room is a pro you only have one line to sing and with your eyes closed you supposed to know who that is that I think about that it's crazy and the best part of the day to me was once everyone was in place apparently Stevie Wonder told the entire group that if they didn't finish the song in one take he and Ray Charles we're going to drive everybody home good stuff yeah and for those listening that not sure what we're talking about neither Stevie Wonder Ray Charles have eyesight so that would be a little dangerous with Aston obvious so news one while so I'm salivating right now at Quincy Jones here he was a conductor this thing and I mean you had Tina Turner and Billy Joel and Michael Jackson Diana Ross and the list just goes on and on and on what a group of people together for one calls and what a great because it was for but I had the privilege for over twenty five years of directing a choir and I loved it but I can't even imagine directing acquire this talent and getting getting the power out of them getting you know getting the emotion and the energy right now I'm just getting super excited about even thinking about taking out folks I am totally got out but you know with the choir you have the sopranos which is typically the lead alto tenor and bass you don't know over the years I've directed all sorts of levels of choir and even way back in the day back in the nineteen eighties I did some directing of a kid's choir and the kids choirs typically do one part just the melody and you know the parents are all excited they got their video cameras out and what not now today's the phones in the recording and it's a lot of fun and then you get him up to maybe fourth fifth sixth grade and now they're able to sing to parts by the time their junior high and high school you've got four parts in your grad in you know improvisation undergrad and soloists and some of those kind of things and when you really want to just make it as dynamic as possible and I'm thinking about Kristin a couple that came in probably three four months ago and I look at their portfolio and it was a hundred percent stocks and I said you haven't really learned a transition have you and they looked at me and you know kind of a funny look and because they were in their early sixties I said you're still really investing like you're thirty in a report still weren't quite getting us so we've got one type of investment in your portfolio it's all stocks in they weren't quite getting and I said look you're two years from retirement and you've got all your money in one risk and that can be a dangerous thing now when stocks are going well you can be really excited when stocks are going poorly you're not going to be so excited and I'd be here with them that you know my parents taught me is a very important thing when I was younger and that was I should hope for the best to have a positive outlook and look at things is possibly the as I possibly can but it should also plan for the worst as of right now your planning like a thirty year old you're planning for the best hoping for the best of the best doesn't happen bad things can happen to you so I said now some people are investing like the junior choir you've got two things in your portfolio you've got stocks in you've got bonds and this couple they came in just probably three weeks ago they had over one point five million dollars in their two four oh one K.'s they've done a great job of saving but they were both in the twenty twenty target date fund in their four one K. and they were less than a year away from retiring I said okay so you've you're in a place where you're in that sixty forty thing and so that's kind of like the you know your may be in the forties or fifties early fifties part of investing but once you saved a million dollars or more you're now accredited investor you have earned the right to now all graduate to a different kind of investing to where now you split your risks up you've got not only stocks and bonds we have private equity in you have private debt you have venture capital you have institutional private equity real estate there are things called link contracts that you can use for further diversity and so all the sudden now your portfolio is very strategic in a when you have that kids choir folks you can't be as diversified you can't transition as much but by the time you get to that adult choir that now you've got the improvisation and you know you've got you the soul was in you at all that you know the the instrumentals in with it and all the sudden now you have this full power that you get to tap into I'm wondering where are you in your portfolio you investing like a thirty year old do you have that vanilla kind of off the shelf kinda plain Jane that sixty forty twenty twenty target date fund kind of portfolio or have you earn the right to.

"Isn't it? Eight. Amazing. Just amazing story now. How lucky are you to have been mentored by three great artists like, Lionel Richie, Katie and Luke Bryan in one word? How would you describe each one? So let's start with Lionel Lonzo his his wash. Katy perry. She's wild. And Lou country. Yes. Well, when you first joined the show, you're a laidback boy from Livingston, Louisiana. I wanna shout out your hometown. And as you progressed, you're sort of this laid back, country singer. So without further. Ado here to form. His new song flame is. Lane. What you're looking for. What's your sinful? I hope you see what I see when I see you what I see. I hope you stonewalling fall in love. I hope it's all dream and no. And every day is a day that you, Hoppy beats for two. The dog. And there's no one. Sure. Thing alone. Everytime. "You. He is going to Lionel Richie said last night. He said man, you haven't even had the full band yet. Do you understand that? And I said, I don't actually think of full bam might take away. But then I went into this deep dive on his Instagram and a few sits with them and says, hey, I want this to be this beautiful, piano piece. But I wanted to have an electro vibe to it. He's going to produce some really cool stuff. All I know is that Coldplay song. And that's my least favorite of Coldplay sauce. I cannot get enough of that. Because of what he does with the guitar the court harmonizes with the melody of his voice that I can't get enough. This guy. I love what I do. I love him. I know you obsessed. You get last year. Found out about on idol. Steve. Are you going to be all right, buddy? I don't know. I kept saying we watched the Coldplay performance last night. And I said to my kids guys, let's listen to it immediately again, and they were just standing there kind of dumbfounded watching him. And I said, do you think that sounds good? And they're like that guy. He's different anybody who knows. You know, what there were some other standouts thought on idol last night. Maybe in the beat at ten o'clock. We'll get to some of them will do that. 'cause I wanna throw somebody in time out. And it's not even a somebody. When we come back. It's it's a video. It's a it's a cooking video what cooking. Disturbing. I mean, I don't even there's nothing in it. But food, but I don't think it's even safe to view at work. Oh, my it's nothing but food in the video, and it has to do with chicken and ham and cheese. And we're going to play a little bit of the video when we come back when we throw them in time out on mytalk one zero seven one, everything entertainment, Lori and.

"A winner for our context right to see waitress you ever see the movie, by the way. Yes. With the great. Yes. Yes. Girl from the Americans screws. Great, right. Yeah. But we're not remembering her name. Are. We really really should. I mean, it's she's a pretty big actress. Keri Russell how. Yes, that's right. Mostly care. Russell looks a lot like my sister-in-law. Oh, yeah. That's a real compliment. That's a good thing because my wife isn't adopted. So therefore, she looks a little like Harry. Russell courtney. Cox thing going right anyway, our winner for tonight. To see new kid on the block Joey McIntyre in waitress on Broadway. You also get dinner before the show won't tickets a waitress, by the way. Just go to waitress the musical dot com. But cecilia. Stagich of queens, two straight nights queens has taken home the title here. So Cecilia congratulations on that. And she knew the answer to our name that tune which was well, let's just play the chorus. Playwright wheel. But that come out. I'll give you a decade. Just go with the eighties early eighties. Nineteen Eighty-one Tom Cruise's film debut, by the way, that was Tom Cruise's filmed minor role. Yeah. It was like Christie businesses like two years later. That's when he really busted out. Yeah. He was in a couple of other movies. I think I think he's in reds. Maybe he was in the other one with the lost boys. Right. And then I think risky business was the biggest storing. I when I remember, man. Yeah. Absolutely. Now, the guy's fifty six years old and he's still doing his own stunts like in mission impossible fifty four he's doing his own style. Blaner producers. Yeah, he hurt himself during his last one stunt because you know, why junior fifties you don't do stunts really broke his leg. He broke his leg. His legs must be insured and a coal Kevin. And Katie Kenny homes are like a good car. No. I don't think they're clapping come on. That's bad karma for them to be clap point. But you know, that was Diana Ross Lionel Richie, by the way that were performing those. I saw over she owned the eighty s when you think about it. You know, dancing on the ceiling, and he had a couple of big hits the white nights soundtrack. You had a couple of songs from their say, you say me, I was dead. But here's the funny thing. Not funny. A little weird when you think about an endless love, Brooke. Shields starts. That's right. When she was so young he was fourteen in real life, bright, right? I remember that. Now what they normally do in these situation. I think they do. Anyway, you put in somebody a little bit older to do these scenes because party endless love was being deflowered. Right. Erotic really kinda was. Yeah, we renting it tonight. As a matter of fact, I think just to kind of reacclimated myself to the whole movement when you put it like that she was a fourteen year old. Yeah. Wasn't it kind of scandalous at the time. It was definitely caused some I remem-. Yeah. I think so I think you're right. No one else is unfortunate in terms of speaking of things that are not scandalous, but as far as kids acting responsibly. Let's put it that way in the city, obviously, they're Catholic schools all over the place, but an alarming number or closing more and more. It's sad. And today it was by cardinal Dolan that seven Catholic schools will be closing York City in the theme is all the same. They don't have the money to stay open the right? That's right now, we also learned that the kids will find that there are places for these kids. I mean, there will be other schools closing. Okay. Have a nice. Yeah. There are other schools for them to go to their their their. Have been places for them all to be. Although the article I read said that all but one kid are found a place like wait a second. He found ways for all. But one kid. I mean, I'm sure I'm this read that. Yeah. I think I did. But it's really one kid doesn't have a place. But so so, yeah, the places for all these kids, but still like an underlying theme here that maybe and Phil Robertson actually was talking about it earlier in the show is far as know God, no devil. In other words, less and less people. People aren't just going to church actually, send your kid to Catholic school when you don't believe in God type of thing. So a Catholic school in my town close I mean, this was a while ago. But number prep over over Wayne, and yeah, you just hear you seem to be hearing about these things more more my wife's high school where she grew up. She'll go Lyndhurst New Jersey. Off route three it's like if there's no traffic you get there from here. Like in fifteen minutes. She went to Queen of peace. And I remember they kept having fundraisers just to keep the school open one more year one more year. And then finally they ran out of fundraisers, they had to close it. So she made the hall of fame for Queen apiece. And now the hall of fame like God. It's like it. Never happened. Right. Yeah. There's nothing there to there's no structure there too. That's kind of sad is kind of depressing. Isn't it so many ways? But you gotta live for the day. You do you know, the Oscars are this year? Speaking of the opposite of Catholic schools definitely the opposite of Catholics. So we know what happened there. Right. Kevin hart. You know, he he gets shamed. For some he may have said or tweeted know years ago, again, we're everybody's going back in time and finding something that someone did wrong, and they will pay the price now here in two thousand eighteen nineteen by the hit squad. And he said, screw it. I'm not I'm not apologizing for this anymore. All right and not I'm not going to beg to do the stupid show where there probably is. No, upside. Anymore? So now, the Oscars are declaring that there's not going to be a hostess, you're probably because they can't find anybody stupid enough to do it. He said, well what they've said. Now, ABC entertainment said that network said they're just gonna have presenters not a host. So they're going to have not the presenters are pretty big names. Daniel craig. Michael avenue. Jennifer Lopez and Tina Fey, so they're going to these presenters then are going to be huge names. They're presenting the up at the Oscars, but they're not gonna have, you know, host who's going to bring in funny and humor and somebody who's gonna bring it all together. I think it's a little strange. But yeah. Heart pulled out just saying it's the worst the worst job in town and kind of like a spoilsport right because he got shame to death. He's like I'm not answering for this anymore. You don't. Okay, apologies tour fine career the way, it's going believe me. I don't need this. Let me just for you pull out of the job. You say I'm not doing it. I'm I don't wanna be ashamed. All of that. Because of these embarrassing social media, whatever you pull out of that. Yeah. But you don't say it's the worst job in town. You stop short of that. You just say I'm not taking the job. Thank you very much. I guess you don't go that next step. Did you realize that in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight fifty seven million people watched the Oscars now many watched last year? Twenty six point five million. In other words, somehow thirty million people said screw that. I'm not watching it because I probably don't know most of the movies. I think it's become very political as well and half the country says, you know, what I'm probably going to tune in. And then watch like a Jimmy Kimmel or a coal is somebody basically insult not just the president that I support but me as well for even supporting him. So you know, what I'm predisposition not even a tune in at all period. I think that's what's happened. It's become very political used to have guys. Like Billy crystal who genuinely make you laugh right crystals. Great. Yeah. Oh, he's the all time. Off. And he's still kind of looks the same. I I would've I would've signed him up. Billy crystal. I really liked the lake crystal tremendous. Yeah. But now, I mean with no host. I mean, could you imagine what the numbers because it just imagining this house go, look you. How do you go from one presenter to the next photo? Inbetween presenters what's going to happen? It's just going to be a blank staying passes Tanya, you'll just be you fade out of black commercial and someone walks baton. Whoa. Past oscar. I mean, it really it's going to be kinda strange just be an empty stage. I think it's going to be weird. But, but you may be onto something that people people were so politics out that we don't wanna be hearing about it on our off time. And our off time is watching the escape is the same thing with the NFL. I don't. Messages while I'm having my escapism and both obviously there's more options as well. Right. I mean on on TV. We're what we're watching on TV watching Netflix and all that other stuff. And we haven't seen many of the foul. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that this will be the lowest rated Oscars of all time, which isn't hard because every year it's been they're not even going to break twenty presenter without even set it myself. But I said the calmer name to movies that are nominated when valuable prizes outside of a star is born, right. Yeah. The wife I got one the wife, and I don't think I could name another. Okay. Well rat to there you go. There we go. Anyway, we gotta go, but we'll be back. Yeah. We will be back and next hour, by the way, we're talking Elizabeth Warren, and how her political career is probably over and the state of the union the most memorable perhaps in state of the union history. "To people than fame. Richard marx. I mentioned yesterday. I talked about the communication. We had before the interview mentioned just now it was interesting because I had zero prep. I had a message with him via Twitter messages with his management via Twitter. But I was kinda surprised that it happened. But I did have one Email with his management. A my question was what do you want me to focus on the same questions that I asked Richard when he came into the studio and his answer touring new material common answer, you can be pretty sure that that's going to be the same for your guests. Somebody wants to talk about what he's doing now. So as I mentioned, Richard Marx, walks in said, what do you wanna talk about anything specific? He was actually really cool. He's like, yeah. Whatever we can talk about whatever you want to talk about a cool interview. Some people are not that way. Some people really want to talk about what they're doing. Now that I knew that he probably is. I wanna talk about his tour dates probably wanna talk about some of the things that he's doing now. And something that I wanted to do was show listeners that there was more of this guy than what they've know him for is actually a lot that he's done that you would know about. In fact, that's how I intro to him. I said this is Richard Marx. He sold thirty million records. There's a lot that he's done. But there's even more that he's done that you don't know he's involved with and that's production. That's writing that's another way to set your guests at ease. If you get in a situation like this, you introduce him not just talking about the hits and your industry, you're not in the music industry, perhaps. But you've got your own version of that in your industry, and you introduce him not just talking about what he's done in the past. But introduce him saying that yes, he has done those things because that's what your listeners are going to get excited about. But also recognize him as the person that he is now still out there working still doing things you have to ask yourself. What do listeners one they want that background information with Richard? The I said. Seven songs he had were top five hits. He's had fourteen number one songs in total. You cannot deny that exist. That is part of his history. That's part of why he's on the show. But at the same time, everybody's heard the hits you can neglect it, but you don't want to focus on something already been done. You want to record the same interview that already exist. So here's what I tried to do. I wanted to talk about that again. That's why he's there. But I wanted to focus on a different aspect. What people don't know about him surprise. We wanted that discovery. We're taking you on the journey. This is what he did. But here is what he's doing. Now, telling his story making him even more interesting to fans and interesting to people who weren't fans, maybe they're going to get engaged with him even more than they would have previously. So some basic stories one his father was a huge jingle writer Nestle crunch. Dial raisin bran double meant gum. Richard Marx grew up in a studio. He sang on his first session when he was five years old jingles had just thirty second pop songs in some ways right in jingle much tougher than writing a pop song because you don't have that much time to get into it till the story get somebody to come along to it. It's not as easy as you might think. So I wanted to dive deeply into that. What did you learn growing up when your father was working on these jingles? How did that affect your writing? I knew he had a connection with Lionel Richie. Now. The rumor was it Lionel Richie discovered them. That's the legend the true story. So much more interesting. He had had a friend from high school one year older than he was this friend is now a freshman in college richer, Marx senior in high school. He said I was playing your demo in the dorm room. My friend says he's got a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend who knows Lionel Richie. Let's see if we can get him a copy of your tape. So that sounds crazy. Right. But it actually happened that way Lionel Richie called Richard Marx richer marks goes to Los Angeles lawn. Richard says, hey, why don't you come out to the studio backup singers on the first line of Ritchie album? Just can't get the part align. Richie had heard richer. Marx demo so through the glass, he points at him. He says, hey, you've been here. What's going on, Richard? Yeah. You won't see if you can give this a shot first session, right? Their nails it the rest is history. So this big Lana Richie stuff. You are the album can't slow down. Richard Marx is the back of singer all that album. So interesting story, it's an element of discovery. That's what kicked off his career. We talked about Ryan for Luther Vandross in seeing Keith urban. He's produced several albums basic story set the framework I wanted a framework of discovery, and that's what I did again. And again, and again, we just rolled the tape went for about seventy minutes. Seventy five minutes story after story after story. That's what happens when you've been in business for thirty. Five years. You get story after story after story, and we got him. I knew I didn't have a lot of time with him. We don't worry about anything like ID's or organizing or anything. I mean orgnization in my head. And I'm pretty good about the beginning in the middle and an end, which is something I've talked about here because I want you to get into it. You've got to have that beginning where you introduce them going walk him through the story. Get to the end the payoff what he's doing. Now, ended wrap it up in a nice boasts your listener has a complete experience you can kind of do that chronologically sometime. But also as you get better you've got that on the background. But you've got these subplots that you can fit in in this case, it was mindset, keep going back to mindset within these little stories in this case, it was songwriting keep going back into that work in the studio from the time he was five years old to time. He's with Lionel Richie two times. Ryan his own stuff to the time. He's doing his own demos to the time. He's in the major label studio to the time. He's writing songs for other people going into the studio with them to time. He's producing you got these little things that thread together. And that's how to organize it. You say I want to talk about this aspect of career. And I wanna get it within these stories. I want all the stories to be discoverable. I wanted to be a beginning and a middle and an in. So people have this chronological order, and they can piece things together. Because that's what let's them organize it in their own brains. And it feels like they've got the beginning the middle and an end I'm throwing a lot of stuff out there. I think the basic philosophy though, if I had to put it in a couple of words, be curious be curious, what do your listeners want to know? What makes somebody interesting? It's not the stuff that we know. It's not the stuff that we put out in press releases or that we see in light, major, magazines and major media. It's the little stuff like what naval them to do that what are some of those connections like Lionel, Richie and saying, hey, come on you think you can do this and that kicked off this guy's career? That's what makes life interesting, and it makes the people that were talking to you even more interesting as evidenced by this interview, you never know how you can get a great interview. Sometimes like this one you can tweet somebody and you can hook it up. And it happens in a relatively short period of time. Sometimes you just need to have a tape recorder on you, you're gonna run into somebody pull out a Mike. Hey, let's get something on tape to help you with that. I've got a remote podcasting package that I'm giving away can help you start the new year. Right. It's zoom h four n pro digital moldy Jack recorder, I've got to microphones for you. So you can have a co host. You can interview whatever you want with them these microphones don't discriminate got the cables for you. You're going to get an advanced copy of my brand new book.
