"Most talked about shows right now on TV is Dahmer, of course, with Evan Peters played Jeffrey Dahmer. On Netflix, I got the guys from true crime cast back here again. And I thought, what a perfect topic for us to discuss because watching this show Dahmer's one of those guys that we always hear about, but you don't really, I didn't really know a lot about it. And then when you watch the show just how sick and psycho this guy was, possibly one of the worst serial killers of all time. Would you agree with that? Absolutely. And you watch this show and you think they have to be making some of this up because it's too crazy. But it's not made up. It is actually pretty spot on to what actually happened. Did you guys know this kind of the story obviously? Have you talked to a Dahmer before and one of your shows? We have, and I think we talked about this the other day, Chris, we've recorded almost 500 episodes true crime cast. The only time I've had to stop in the middle and take a break was the Dahmer episode, just because of how nauseating. And again, our first case with you was Nathaniel bar Jonah, and he had a kid's cookbook. But Dahmer, the things he did, even surpasses that quite a bit, I think. I had no stop watching the series like after episode three because he was just so messed up. And that's the thing, once again, messed up is taking it lightly, but just it always amazes me and we've talked about this time and time again. How these guys are able to get away with this. It's just like it's almost like you're hiding in plain sight and doing these awful crimes and murders and mutilations and torturing, but in a apartment building. It's not like he's even doing it in the middle of nowhere. It's actually in an apartment building with neighbors, cops are everywhere. I mean, it just blows my mind how he was able to get away with this for so long. And there are so many opportunities for police to intervene and they don't. And some of the things even happen in his grandmother's house like, yeah, you're supposed to be on your best behavior at mammals houses. And this guy was killing people in the putting in the basement like the dude is so sick. We'll get into it more. He was also drunk the whole time. Usually when somebody's inebriated, they're less likely to execute their plan. Yeah, he just constantly drunk. So it's amazing that he didn't slip up and get caught beforehand. Mind-blowing. And working at a chocolate factory the whole time like freaking Willy Wonka, like holding down a job while murdering people. Like you said, it's almost comical and obviously there's nothing comical about it, but like you said, he works in a who works in a chocolate factory. Nobody, nobody's ever worked in a chocolate factory ever except for Willy Wonka and freaking Jeffrey Dahmer. Yeah. Unbelievable. They want the same. I don't know. Right, exactly. Well, let's kind of go in. And one last thing I want to say to you is just his father Lionel Dahmer and just you feel so bad for this guy, but until the end he just loves his son and his pulling for his son, but even the relationship, like he even had, and you could blame it on the mom or whatever, but he had a pretty good family unit. Wasn't like he was getting beaten or whatever. His parents got divorced, you know, big deal, so did mine sure maybe yours did as well. But it's like, I just couldn't believe the whole story behind that. So let's kind of get into the whole tale of this embodiment of evil Jeffrey Dahmer. Yeah, you're right in his childhood wasn't like a lot of The Killers that we usually talk about. It wasn't super, super broken, a ton of abuse that we know of, but he was born in May of 1960, in Milwaukee, Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer as parents were Lionel and Joyce. And his mom did have a pretty difficult pregnancy with him. She was having seizures and they gave her some medications that I don't think we would see somebody get today that was pregnant. I know we're super careful with prenatal care. They actually gave her morphine for some of her pregnancy issues and other barbiturates to help her sleep and to make her seizures subside and while we don't know that any of his behaviors and any of his issues were a direct result of that. Obviously it's not ideal. I don't think we would see that at all today in my day job. I'm a social worker and if moms take this kind of drug while they're pregnant, they often have to wean the baby off these because they're born addicted to substances. Wow, okay? So yeah, and in 1962, the family moved to Iowa so that Lionel his dad could pursue his doctoral studies in chemistry in 1966 they moved to Ohio. That was where Jeffrey was in first grade at the time, and his teachers reported that Jeffrey claimed that he was being neglected, and some believe that was because his father worked so much in his mom was suffering from what appeared to be severe symptoms of depression. And he was getting more and more involved in school and later that year, a brother was born and his name was David and Jeffrey actually got to name his brother in hopes of helping him feel more involved with the family and to kind of get him more loved and valued.

Dahmer was the Black and white one with some tax. Yeah look room and they'd saw how jeffrey was living in this house. It's a pigsty. it's just you know not right. They know something is horribly horribly off when they come back and they see him in his dad basically says i want to get a little bit of structure. I want to go into the army. And so dahmer does that and he is stationed over in west germany as a medic and they actually said he was above average soldier in. What he did was eh can believe that for sure. Actually you know a lot of sociopaths who have a desire to live in a in socially acceptable ways. They will choose careers in police and military. Oh yeah to give them socially acceptable outlets there. You know inclinations and that's not just even serial killers getting no clue. No not even that i mean i know one guy. Who's he actually knows. He's a sociopath. Oh really yeah and he. He thought that the ideal career for him would be a sniper. Oh i could definitely see that job for a sociopath right the thing is you ideal really. Yeah definitely but yeah. I don't know how much of that was him wanting to go in to it As it was he was kind of you know forced into it for lack of a better word but yet he was stationed as a medic in west germany at the time and during his service there it actually came to light later on with his crimes back in the states that there was a couple of soldiers he raped over there really eight. Yeah they didn't make any claims doubted when he was in the service but yeah after his crimes were known. It's.

"Name. I was just looking for that but yeah there were fairly normal people. They raised him more or less normal but his dad was basically a fulltime student through a lot of this going to get his degree in chemical engineering at allergies. Actually dr lionel dahmer. Now joyce was his mother's name. Thank you joyce but Yeah you know. There's been a lot of fear rising. As far as geoffrey goes stat. His dad being at school kept him. Basically absent from his from a lot of his sons live other than that. there wasn't any abuse in jeffries. History there wasn't any of the typical markers that we've seen in a lot of these other cases but one thing about him that they noticed was he really liked dissecting animals and some say torturing that although i honestly didn't find any verified reports of of cruelty to animals. Well yeah. I mean. I mean if you're gonna say dissecting animals is Indication of possible. You know socio apathy then every biologist needs to be investigated. Yes yes and that's really a good question there. Where does this go from. Basic scientific curiosity that's good and that should be nurtured into europe. Peter morbidity well like you see right. It's it has to do with the animals still alive. Is that your is it torture or is it investigate. Is it curiosity about the biology right. Because michelangelo used to dig up corpses to study their physiology of of muscles and things like that for his art free. Yeah jeffrey did this with animals to and that's what he said is he wanted to know how they work where his words. But i didn't find anything about him. You know killing them or being cruel to them just said he really liked to do this with daddy animals in his dad. He asked his dad one day. Is there a way that you can clean bones and it was actually lionel. Who showed him how to do that. A bit of that science to his son but yeah they moved later on to ohio when lionel actually got a job with a chemical company getting his degree it was in bath ohio We actually have the house that they lived in for a while.
