"lineas" Discussed on Bankless

"Bankless Nation, it is the second Friday of November. David, tell them what time it is. Oh, it's bull market time, Ryan. It's a bull market. It's a bull market. It's also, what's up? This is a special edition of the weekly roll up. And you told me not to ruin this title, this theme for you. So I'm not going to do it. Go, you say it. It's the, we are so back edition of the Friday bankless weekly roll up where we cover all the weekly news in crypto, especially focusing on the markets this week because God candles are happening. Coins are moving. We're getting the double digit price movements. Markets are alive. And NFTs are no exception to that. Everything is up. Every single listener of this podcast has more money today than they had last week. So congratulations. Pat yourself on the back. I declare that we made it. We made it through the pair. We made it. The bear's over. You're saying it? It's official now? It's official. All right. Well, so everybody is up on the week, except for those, those few Fiat Maximists. Except for the short sellers who are idiots. Do you think any Fiat Maximus and short sellers listen to bankless? How dare they? Just hate listens. Hate views, hate listens. Guys, in addition to the markets though, we've got a few other questions that we're asking. I'm going to rattle them off. Did BlackRock just file for a new spot? Eth ETF is near moving to Ethereum. Did Elizabeth Warren apologize for lying about crypto? I bet you can guess that last one. There's so many questions today. There's a lot of excitement going into the episode. David, before we get in, want to shout out our friends and sponsors over at Linea. They are inviting the bankless nation to go on a voyage. This is a DeFi voyage, a crypto voyage, because they have a new ZK EVM that you absolutely have to check out if you want to pioneer the frontier. David, tell them about Linea and what is the voyage? The voyage is six weeks of 10 ways of activity, 10 core tasks, some optional bonus tasks as well, with over 60 DeFi apps all to engage with. Why would you engage with them? Well, you know the points mechanism. FriendTech did this. They're giving out points. Linea XP, Voyage XP, is like a game, non-transferable ERC20 token that you accrue for going on the Linea voyage. So there is a link in the show notes to explore what is a new ZK EVM layer two on the scene. So you can collect some Linea XP by doing the Linea voyage. There's a link in the show notes. I think this is where we're going to spend the bull market, David, is on roll-ups and layer twos because Ethereum gas fees are going up, my friends. Oh, they are not low. We got to migrate. We got to migrate, but let's talk about the markets. All right, these charts look so beautiful today. This is the Kraken Bitcoin chart from Kraken Pro. And look at this candle up, this big green candle, followed by a candle down a little bit, but I'm still happy because it's still up. Tell me about this candle, what's going on? What's the price on the week? Yeah, Bitcoin started the week at 34,600, trying desperately to get its head back above 35,000 and not fall resistance to that, not fall back down. And then it just like blasted through right before we started recording, touched $38,000 going from right below $35,000 where it's been all week to $38,000. It is now at the time of recording at 36,500. So coming back a little bit, but 36,500 is real nice. Really, really nice. It's really nice. And this is the highest Bitcoin has been. I mean, I'm just scrolling out on the Kraken chart here. Like 24 months, how long has it been? I got to keep scrolling. It's been a very long time. You can't keep scrolling because your candles are one hour candles. So if you go up to the top one day, yeah, this is how you use Kraken charts. How I trade. Okay, yeah. Here we go. So look at the line, see where it intersects. May of 2022. Okay, so we killed the FTX liquidation. Bitcoin replaced that pretty early, in early 2023. And then halfway through 2023, we erased the three arrows capital liquidation. So three arrows capital is now in a distant memory. Those are no longer relevant parts of the market. And we are in process of finalizing the removal of the Terra Luna dump, which happened in May of 2022. We're almost there. I think if we just get maybe up to back, if we hold $38,000, Terra Luna is in the rear view mirror. It's also the season where you're starting to get, you're gonna start to get text messages from your friends and family. You have? My very dormant crypto chat that was dominant throughout 2020 and 2021 is now like, oh, we're back, baby.

A highlight from Fireblocks Discloses UniPass Vulnerability

"Welcome to your Ethereum news roundup, here's your latest for Thursday, October 26th, 2023. Fireblocks discloses a Unipass wallet vulnerability, Arbitrum Orbit is mainnet ready, Polygon activates the Inkaberry upgrade, and Metamask expands support for networks on its bridge app. All this and more starts right now. The Fireblocks security team disclosed an ERC4337 account abstraction related vulnerability in Unipass's smart contract wallet. Attackers could have exploited the vulnerability by modifying the trusted entry point in hundreds of Unipass wallets, which would have allowed them to control and drain funds from the wallets together with Fireblocks, Unipass executed a white hat operation to patch the vulnerability, setting the entry point of impacted wallets to a new rescue contract and adding missing permissions. Fireblocks highlighted the challenges of securing modular smart contracts and the need for standardized security measures such as ERC6900. Arbitrum Orbit, a tech stack for deploying layer 3 app chains on Arbitrum antitrust chains, is now mainnet ready. Orbit chains can post data availability to Arbitrum One or Arbitrum Nova, enabling ultra low -cost transactions. Gaming and derivatives platforms have emerged as a top application use case for Orbit chains. Rollup as a service providers Caldera, Conduit, and Outlayer will facilitate the deployment of Orbit chains. Arbitrum Orbit is compatible with Stylus, a tech stack that supports smart contracts written in any Wasm -compatible language. Orbit chains can also integrate Arbitrum Nitro updates without having to obtain governance approval. Polygon has initiated the IncaBerry upgrade for its ZK -EVM mainnet beta, which introduces cryptographic enhancements, bug fixes, and updates to the prover and node. A 10 -day time lock set to end on November 5th is in place for users to withdraw funds and developers to test the update. Developers will need to update to the latest versions of the node and prover once the upgrade is live on Ethereum mainnet. And lastly, Metamask added support for bridging between Base, ZKSync era, and Linea, bringing the total number of supported networks to 9 within its bridge portal. Powered by bridge aggregators socket and LeFi, the portal includes bridge providers like Hop, Cellar Cbridge, and Polygon Bridge. A 0 .875 % fee is applied to all bridging transactions on the Metamask portfolio dApp. In other news, the Frame Layer 2 rollup is now live on the Arbitrum Nitro testnet, the Bridge kicks off OP incentives, S .Box releases an on -chain URL shortener, and CCTP is now live on Base. A highlight from Snapshot Integrates XMTP Notifications

"Welcome to your Ethereum news roundup. Here's your latest for Wednesday, October 4th, 2023. Snapshot integrates XMTP notifications, DeFiSaver goes live on base, Polygon deploys Paul contracts on Gourley, and Perineal v2 goes live. All this and more starts right now. Snapshot integrated XMTP notifications into its off -chain governance voting platform. The integration provides users with an opt -in feature to receive notifications for DAO proposals. To sign up, users can send an XMTP message to chat .snapshot .eth and confirm their subscription. Users can choose which DAOs they want to receive notifications from by activating the bell icon on the DAOs snapshot page. The feature is compatible with any XMTP -enabled application, including Coinbase Wallet, and also supports gasless voting from the same application. Snapshot hopes that the new feature will address voter apathy. DeFiSaver is now live on base, with initial support for lending and borrowing on Aave v3 and Compound v3. Users on base can now access DeFiSaver's signature boost, repay, and single -click position creation features. Users can also swap through a DeFiSaver DEX aggregator bridge via a LeFi protocol integration and track their base portfolio. The implementation also supports simulation mode, a sandbox environment for users to test DeFiSaver's functionalities. Base marks the third roll -up supported by DeFiSaver, joining Optimism and Arbitrum. In the future, DeFiSaver plans to introduce automated strategies, a yield dashboard, and additional lending protocols. Polygon deployed contracts for the PAUL token on the Gorly testnet. The contracts prepare the token for compatibility with Polygon 2 .0 architecture as part of Polygon Improvement Proposal 19, which is set to transform Matic into PAUL. The upgrade will make PAUL a native gas, staking, and governance token designed to support an ecosystem of CK -powered Layer 2 chains. Polygon also introduced two new Polygon Improvement Proposals that modify the native token burning mechanism. The proposals include PIP24, which aims to change the EIP -1559 burn system, and PIP25, which aims to adjust the PAUL token supply. The launch signifies the preliminary phase of the project's transition into Polygon 2 .0. And lastly, Derivative's protocol Perineal deployed its V2 upgrade on Arbitrum and Base. The new version introduces faster oracles for reduced order execution time and a new PID -based dynamic funding rate to ensure lower trading fees. The upgrade also merges long and short markets into a single asset market, promoting deeper liquidity and better capital efficiency. V1 users are required to migrate their liquidity and positions onto the V2 contracts. In other news, Bonfire introduces Bonfire Wallet, Linea releases a saved fork, 3DNS goes live to beta, and Bybit supports Base. This has been a roundup of today's top news stories in Ethereum. "Welcome to your Ethereum news roundup. Here's your latest for Monday, September 25th, 2023. Angle Protocol introduces SDRO, Consensus partners with Protocol Labs for its startup program, OP Labs outlines its fault -proof VM design, and Arbitrum redesigns its ecosystem portal. All this and more starts right now. The Arbitrum on Gitcoin Grants round is now live, if you'd like to support this podcast please consider contributing by visiting ethdaily .io forward slash gitcoin. Angle Protocol introduced STRO, a stablecoin pegged to the euro that offers a variable 4 % APY. The protocol generates yield by holding BC3M, representing an ETF invested in short -term euro government bonds currently yielding 3 .6%. Users can exchange their AGO stablecoins for STRO to earn interest. Angle Protocol has committed to distributing 90 % of its projected earnings to holders. The APY will be adjusted on a weekly basis depending on the utilization rate. There are no upfront fees, deposit or withdraw charges, locks, or minimum deposit requirements for minting STRO. Angle Protocol has integrated a feature onto its dApp to swap into AGO and stake it for STRO in a single transaction. Consensus partnered with Protocol Labs to support builders as part of its Consensus Scale startup program. Accepted program participants will have access to Protocol Labs resources, technical support, co -marketing opportunities, workshops, funding, and Consensus products like MetaMask, Infura, and Linea. The program aims to support dApps and Web3 projects in the Seed to Series A funding stages. Funded projects with an existing team and product -market fit can apply for the Consensus Scale program, which spans 24 months. Protocol Labs is an open -source research and development startup incubator. In a new blog post, OP Labs detailed how the design of the fault -proof VM in the OP stack contributes to both social and technical decentralization. The fault -proof VM is a component of the OP stack's fault -proof system focused on the secure execution of instructions. Its design embraces the multi -client principle, supporting multiple proof types. The design of the fault -proof VM ensures it remains unaffected by protocol changes on Layer 1, such as the addition of new opcodes. Its primary function is to execute individual instructions, ensuring correct and secure execution. OP Labs is also exploring ZK validity proofs for the OP stack to enable faster bridging. And lastly, Arbitrum redesigned its Arbitrum portal, a gateway for browsing over 600 dApps available in the Arbitrum ecosystem. Users can browse dApps by advanced search, category, or chain. The portal also features developer docs, educational resources, job listings, and community talks. Arbitrum portal also lists a timeline of the upcoming Arbitrum Odyssey campaign. "All this will be leveraged on us, how we will have a lot of, I would say, synergies, maximizing as well. Again, cooperation maybe between layer one, layer two, because we have this deep understanding. About kind of the longer -term vision for LineA and layer twos more broadly, where would you like to see it go? What would the ideal outcome be for LineA, say, ten years from now? Something that is interesting to mention, I would say more short -term, is in terms of performances, there's a lot of work on the layer one, and I mentioned, oh, we need to be able to send more data. There's a lot of work, and we spoke about the competition between all the layer twos around basically the prover or my prover is faster than yours, this type of story. I think we should think as well about the importance of the client, because if you want to execute a lot of transactions, well, you need to execute them quickly. It's not only generating the proof quickly. You need to execute them quickly. So there's a kind of, when I joined actually Ethereum six years ago, everybody was competing on the consensus protocol, saying, oh, my consensus protocol is faster than everything else, and I will create a blockchain that will be ten times faster than Ethereum, and it does not happen. It does not happen. Why? Because at the end of the day, executing the transaction is expensive and you can do the consensus as fast as you want. If you're not fast enough and the execution itself, which is a very computer science thing, there's no cryptography, there's no fancy stuff, just executing the transaction, and it's already very complicated, actually. So it's something that is going to be a challenge, I think, more than people anticipate for the next year. We do have at consensus a team implementing a client, Bezos, so obviously that's something that is quite useful and that will be quite important. So it's really, I would say, a short -term thing.

"And there's a kind of trust which is involved, which is, okay, I trust that consensus will not go too crazy, so there is a proof. And there's a security, which is, oh, we can't have too many people updating the system. And it's obviously not acceptable, basically as simple as this, but it allows to have a first deliverable, which is, oh, look, there's this proof working, we've got this scalability performance improvements, there's a lot of things. So it's a multiple -step thing. And from this, what you want, you want to minimize the trust and maximize the decentralization, which is very correlated and not fully correlated. So the point is, thanks to the proof, once the proof system is proven enough, and maybe we need this multiprover at the point, you can say, okay, you can trust in the proof, but given the complexity to produce the proof, it's still limited to a set of factors. And what you want to get from there is, okay, actually the proof is, not only the proof is stable, but actually many people can participate in the proof generation, you don't need a crazy amount of resources, that's a first step. And the second step is, oh, and as well, it's not only when it's deciding to create this sequence of transactions, anyone can participate. Anyone can create a sequence that will be sent to a prover, and the prover will send this to the later one. So that's a path that we need to take. Today, we are in this situation where there's this little trust, but please trust us on this. But clearly, decentralization is the next thing that we want to do, because we need to remove this trust. So we've got a roadmap on this. We want to show that the proof system is sound, so we've got a very long specification of it, there will be a work on formal proof of it, there's a lot of work there. There will be a work as well on having everything open source so anyone can check.

"Okay, so would it be that in this future all the ZK EVMs will work similar to how Ethereum implementation work? Like there's different Ethereum clients, but they are all confirming the same transactions, they're all part of the same network. So in this future for ZK EVMs that you're seeing, it would be the same. Like all ZK EVMs would be part of the same network, which means that they would have to work with multiple proofs, like they would all have to prove the same chains, like the same transactions, they like basically have the same database of transactions that they all agree on. And that means that applications built on one will also be useful on others? Like what would the consequences for users be in that future? From this technology you can do two things. You have actually three options. One is you continue to have competing networks, but they reuse the technologies of others. So you still have independent networks, but they are more secure because they cooperate in order to implement exactly the same standards at the same time, so we can have this multiprover approach. That's one future. Another future is to say we can have a single network. Why not? It's possible as well. And another one is, oh, but now that we have basically a standard defined ultimately by the Ethereum Foundation and we have multiple implementations, we can push this technology to the Layer 1 to facilitate the scalability of the Layer 1 natively as well. So all this is possible. We will see. Okay, but in essence, what you think would be better is for all the CKE VMs to work together rather than compete. So competition is very good in terms of performances. I think it's very important and it makes the system much better. The way I see it, even if we're using different technologies, all these technologies are new and there's a lot of improvement for performances in terms of speed, in terms of cost everywhere. It's always the same thing.

"We see it as a key point. It includes the fact that the EVM, it's not something that we define. It's defined by the term foundation, and we're just following the specification done by others like other people implementing this type of the EVM are doing. Would you prefer to say that what linear does is it's a roll -up, and just simplifying it very much, roll -ups are layer 2 chains, which means that they take some of the processing and computation out of the layer 1 chain for Ethereum, does that outside of Ethereum, and then rolls up all these transactions and confirms it on the Ethereum chain, but it speeds things up because you don't need to be confirming every single transaction as they happen. You roll them up, and there's these two main technologies that do this right now. It's optimistic roll -ups and zero -knowledge roll -ups, and then zero -knowledge EVM roll -ups are using the same coding language as Ethereum itself to allow developers to build on these roll -ups so that allows it as much flexibility as Ethereum does for developers to build on these chains. Is that kind of a good summary? It's absolutely correct. Between CK roll -ups and optimistic roll -ups, why did you decide to go with CK? So the CK1 is the most trustless solution. All the knowledge is on the layer 1 because we put on the layer 1 the way to verify that a state change is correct, and if the layer 1 says that the state change is correct, then we're done. And that's basically simply about this. The fact that everything is there on the layer 1 for everybody to see and anyone can verify the change, that's the most secure way of doing things, so that's why we went for this solution. Zero -knowledge roll -ups allow for anyone to verify on -chain each transaction and optimistic roll -ups don't? So the main idea of the CK roll -up is someone is going to create a batch of transactions, a sequence of transactions, that's why we call it the sequencer, and it's going to say okay,

"Nicholas Lioshan is the global lead for Linea, which is a new CK EVM roll -up by ConsenSys. Roll -ups play a crucial role in scaling Ethereum, as they reduce computational load on the main network by processing transactions off -chain. The two prominent roll -ups currently available are CK roll -ups and Optimistic roll -ups, and Linea is the latest CK roll -up to launch. In our conversation, we will explore how Linea sets itself apart in the already highly competitive Ethereum Layer 2 landscape. But first, we'll begin our conversation with an introduction to Linea by Nicholas. What we're launching right now is what we call Mainnet Alpha, and it comes after many many years of research. So we started to work actually on roll -ups five years ago as a part of our work in a research for the Ethereum protocol. Back then, we were working on Ethereum 2 with the idea that we would be having proof -of -stake and scalability. And proof -of -stake was served kind of, I would not say easily, but came faster, and we were there with how to scale. Multiple options were looked at, and at a point, roll -ups were seen as the best solution for Ethereum scalability. So we started to work at this in EZK 2019, saying, okay, hey, that's how we want to do it. We think it's the right solution. And more and more, we were convinced that it was the right solution. At the beginning, roll -ups were very specialized because we thought, okay, it's slow, it's complicated, so we need to have very specialized roll -ups. So we started to work actually on payments only, then anonymous payments, this type of stuff. And then we said, okay, but let's try to do EZK EVM, which is let's try to be able to interpret bicord the of the EVM, the native bicord of the Ethereum protocol, and let's try to put that into a system of zero knowledge in order to use this to scale. And actually, we saw it's possible. So that's right.

"Or, you know, these are things with negative externality, chat GPT, another one where people were saying, Okay, well, how am I supposed to know now that you can create very human like contact at scale and posted on the internet? How do I know what's misinformation disinformation from an AI versus real human content? What if all the content on the internet, like 99 % of it now becomes computer generated, because the AIs can just write, you know, enormous amounts of content without human beings? What if it, you know, makes everybody unemployed, right? Like, these are very important questions that, you know, require nuance and require somebody thinking, thinking them through and adding trust and safety guidelines for how their technology can be used and how it cannot be used. I think those companies have all done great jobs at that seeing as jet GPT hasn't destroyed the world yet. And I think that the Arkham Intel Exchange will be very similar. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, we're all here in crypto, we're all proponents of new tech, and we think a new tech is net positive for the world. And obviously, you know, bringing transparency around blockchain data, and especially around bad actors and exploits is a net positive. So I think it's interesting what you were saying that these bounties will be put up to decentralized governance when there's a dispute. Maybe there needs to be a buffer between the time the bounty is posted and the time that it actually gets approved to allow for community discussion. But I know that you have a hard stop, and we haven't talked about the Arkham token, which I think, you know, our listeners will be interested in. What's what's the latest on that? Like there, you know, see an airdrop? Like, what's, what are the steps for for those interested? So, um, one quick note, there is a 30 day buffer between, you know, submissions and, and when they can actually go live, so that the bounties actually have a timer on them, and people can make submissions during that time.

"But then, when another one of these, you know, potential bad actors then dog Zack XBT, then it caused an outrage, right. And I think that that's very fair. I think it's fair to, you know, go and if somebody is conducting very bad behavior, and it's very much verifiable on in public with public information, to reveal who that person is, in order to help protect other users. But if somebody is doing good, you should not do that. And so, you know, there are situations where, you know, you need to apply some nuance, and you need to think, you know, very carefully about what sort of information should be allowed on versus not. And I think most of the time, it's a question of whether or not it's in the interest of the public and whether or not it's a public good to do so. And sometimes it can be a bit of a mixed bag. There's a question of, you know, if there's a big project, and there's controversy about, you know, that project potentially being fraudulent, or people making misrepresentations or claims. And, you know, that is happening, say, to the project founder, and the project founder holds a billion dollars in tokens, you know, there's a question like, you know, should that be revealed or not? Right. And it really just comes down to is it in the public interest? Is it, you know, a public good for people to know what's going on behind that information? But is Arkham then making that determination? And what puts Arkham in the position to make that determination? So we actually have a decentralized governance structure, which can be read in the white paper, where as part of these very critical decisions, so say a situation where a bounty has been approved, that seems relevant to the public seems like a public good. And, and, and people are very much interested in knowing, you know, who is this, you know, very large whale, and then somebody makes a submission, and it turns out, you know, it's some sort of completely normal person, but there's a bunch of controversy in the space.

"So like, you know, if you come and build on linear, you get access to millions of monthly active users through metamask, you know, and integration is only going to get deeper and deeper. And I think, you know, when you see the leading web three wallet, and one of the leading scalability layers come together, they sit next door in the same building, what you can achieve from a UX and scalability perspective, you know, that provides value. There's other ways we can provide value, and we'll always be focused on how we best provide value. So that's that's our current focus. That's interesting. Looks like there's this kind of like, like, like, Apple sort of a analogous ecosystem emerging, you know, it's like everything is plugged in together and I don't know, has its own little or big system. Cool. I would love to hear just your, you know, the long term vision for linear is it is, is the goal to become a network for all sorts of use cases? Are you focusing more on a specific industry within web three? Like, like, what's, what's the longer term vision for this network? Yeah, for us, we're really focused on scaling a theorem and unlocking new web three use cases. We're not dogmatic about what those use cases are, we want to make sure that we're sort of open to the to what you know, the industry is moving towards. Specifically, things that I'm excited about are having a sort of defy experience that is almost like a centralized exchange, but it's completely on chain. So it's like, it's almost like using sort of a Coinbase or a Binance but you don't have the same trust assumptions, right? We don't end up with an FTX situation because you're using a roll up and users always have the ability to like withdraw their funds, let's say. The cool thing about roll ups and especially what we're focusing on linear is you can have the in terms of like fast confirmations and throughput and all this stuff and having cheap transaction costs, especially account abstraction, it will be able to do that.

"And I'm curious, just like how, if you guys have had strategy conversations, what, how do you think about the L2 landscape as a whole? I mean, is it like, you know, because we're heading to this point where I feel like I wake up and I just see there, you know, there's a new L2 not not quite there yet. But it's like, you know, we had the layer one narrative, and now it almost there's this L2 narrative. So how do you like, do you think about differentiation? Do you think it's all collaborative? Do you think there's going to be, you know, optimism is doing the super chain thing? It seems like polygon is kind of trying to do that as well. Like, how do you see all that playing out? How does linear fit into that? optimally? Or, you know, probabilistically? Yeah, I think, you know, we, the main net that we've launched is an alpha, we specifically gave it that title, because it's whilst it's a great milestone, there's still a lot to do. And, you know, the future that we're sort of seeing where there might be many L2s and L3s is really exciting. And I think it is probably unrealistic to expect one L2 to deal with the whole execution topic of Web3, like the same way in, you know, ridiculous to expect one web server to deal with the whole of the web traffic. So we're really focused on like, basically moving from alpha to finishing our technical roadmap, we're completely decentralized, completely trust minimized, scalable, efficient things, there's lots, lots of work still to do. That being said, you know, we are going to be open source, we are going to be available to have many instances of the linear stack, if such people need to have their own configurations, or they want to almost like scale demand, because L2 is still, you know, increasing its own throughput. And the reason we're really well positioned, I think, for that potential is, future again, because of the prover.

"Hi, everyone. We're here with another edition of the Defiant Weekly Recap. This is a special episode because we'll have two guests on. We'll have Declan Fox from Linea, a new CKEVM, which is about to launch soon. And the focus of this week's crypto panel, the founder of ARKAM Intelligence. So those two guests will be coming up. But to start, let's focus on the latest news, the biggest news of the week. And, well, I'm Camille, the founder of the Defiant, and we have Jeremy and Owen, staff get started. This week was huge for markets. Because there was news on this, you know, just one of the biggest cases involving crypto of all time with Ripple. Owen, you did the story on the market reaction. After a US judge said Ripple is not a security, why was it received so well?

Linea announces its mainnet alpha release, Calswap releases Calhooks, Manta Pacific introduces an OP stack layer 2 solution, and Alluvio raises a 12 million dollars series A. All Linea, an EVM equivalent CK rollup by ConsenSys, deployed its mainnet alpha release. The release is initially available for launch partners, but ConsenSys plans to open the network for all users during ETHCC on July 18th. The alpha release comes after the conclusion of a nine -week Odyssey campaign called Linea Voyage. ConsenSys will launch the first NFT collection on alpha mainnet for all Voyage participants. Linea's Gourley testnet has processed over 47 million transactions from 5 .5 million unique addresses. ConsenSys also launched the Linea Ecosystem Investment Alliance, an investment syndicate to fund and support builders. Linea's ZKEVM features integrations with ConsenSys -built infrastructure. Linea is also the first layer 2 network to deploy a trustless layer 2 resolver for ENS domains. A layer 2 resolver is a contract on layer 1 that verifies and retrieves data from layer 2. CalSwap introduced CalHooks, a new feature for creating custom -coded DeFi actions that execute directly before or after a CalSwap trade. CalHooks allow advanced users to chain together various actions, such as trading, bridging, and staking, into a single transaction. Gas fees are paid only upon successful execution. Prehooks are actions that execute before a swap, such as wallet signatures and token approvals. Posthooks are actions that execute after the completion of a swap, such as bridging and transferring tokens. CalHooks build upon intents, which are signed constraints that allow users to outsource their desired actions to solvers. Manta Network introduced Manta Pacific, a modular layer 2 solution built on the OP stack and designed for ZK applications. Manta Pacific leverages Manta Network's universal circuits and ZK interface, Celestia's data availability for security and low gas fees, and Caldera's modified OP stack for scalability. Manta Pacific offers native composability, easy integration into web 2 applications, and is EVM native, allowing developers to build ZK applications using Solidity. OP stack mods are community -created modifications. The OP stack is a development stack for building custom layer 2 blockchains as part of Optimism's Superchain. Alluvio, an enterprise liquid staking project, raised a $12 million Series A, co -led by Ethereal Ventures and Variant Fund. The fresh capital will be used for new hires and to further develop and accelerate the adoption of its enterprise -grade liquid staking solution. Alluvio is behind an enterprise consortium known as the Liquid Collective. The Liquid Collective protocol features its own liquid staking token called LSE. Alluvio has also built an enterprise API that simplifies the adoption of liquid staking for digital asset exchanges and custodians. And lastly, Tyco, an EVM equivalent ZK rollup, launched a Tyco Quest Galaxy campaign. The campaign aims to help users deepen their knowledge about Tyco, which is working to build the first Type 1 ZK EVM. Last month, Tyco launched its third Alpha ZK EVM testnet and plans to launch to Mainnet early next year. This has been a roundup of today's top news stories in Ethereum. Proteas: Celebrating These Botanical Shape-Shifters

"Fond of as we're speaking. You have a bunch pictured behind you wonderfully illustrated on the wall but the proteas. I have to say those paintings by a friend of mine. Vicki thomas and she's one of south africa's most acclaimed botanical straight. That's awesome absolutely wonderful person. Carry on all right. Shout out to vicki. Thomas amazing i can seem from here. They're great but you know this is a group. That is a little strange. They're beautiful most of the time. Some of them are culinary interests. A lot of people will be most familiar with them for the cut flower industry and their use in different floral arrangements but in terms of a group of plants. The proteas pro. Dac as a family. Really kind of encapsulates. Everything you've aimed for and more and unlike flagship species they're not getting nearly the attention. They deserve for the plate that they're facing as a family of plants. In a modern world they are a real bench of wackos I mean lynn. A cult them protea or called the jenness protea protea. Because of the greek god. Protease protease was a shape shifter so lineas such will this plump family comes in such a huge range of different weird shapes and forms in not justice flowers but its foliage and its fruits and all the rest of it but there's only one name for them knots the proteas and some of them are crazy and they have crazy names to i mean there's a there's a genus of pro. Tac out there. called megahertz. Sia megahertz probably one of the best plump names. I think that there is and they produce these crazy flower heads. They're not flowers there in or conflicts ince's to be more specific about it. They have these amazing floral brax. The king protea the national flower south africa is is a conflict essence so hundreds of individual flowers surrounded by these beautiful pink or red floral brock switch. A modified leaves banks is the same huge heads. One of the most flourish in fluorescence in the world is a species of fanciable granted. The bull banksia has up to three thousand individual flowers in the end in a single head. But they don't do things by normal standards than nearly always bird or mammal pollinated rather than insect pollinated. They don't use a micro rizal relationship. In most instances. There are a few that. Do they do crazy stuff with that chemical makeup and the way that they use chemicals in their in their systems particularly the way that these phosphorus they are almost completely made of licnen and that goes for the flowers as well as a the warden the leaves you know. This plant family is yeah wacko to me. Just like people. My favorite groups are just the wackos the one offs the strange ones. That are just doing things. A little bit differently than the rest or sometimes drastically differently than the rest. And i am so foreign to most of what this family has to offer. I mean i'll remember going to the huntington for the first time in going. Wait a minute there trees

"As Dusk, fell on February eighth, nineteen, twenty, nine, forty, six, year, old Peter Curtain prowled the bustling boulevards of Dusseldorf searching for his next victim. He stopped outside Saint Vincent's Church, and leaned against the stone wall he watched as Rosa. He would later claim that only when he saw the gushing blood, did he finally reach sexual satisfaction Peter Stared down at Rosa's lifeless body and noticed that a small wound had formed on Rosa's temple where she hit the ground and it was starting to bleed at the site of the blood Peter was seized by a sinister craving. He pressed his lips around the wound and sucked the blood from Rosa's skull. Peter derived a pleasurable sensation from the act and like when he first killed a sheep as a teenager, it would change his life forever. Vanessa. Peter decided the best course of action would be to establish an alibi. So while his wife Ow Gustav. Once he was presentable and weapon free he took himself to the movies on his walk home from the Cinema Peter. Thought. It might be a good idea to burn Rosa's body. Not only would this destroy any lingering evidence it would also increase the grisly nature of the crime that night Peter filled an empty beer bottle with the petroleum from one of his lamps then headed back to where he left Rosa but as Peter ventured toward Rosas body, he realized there were too many witnesses to set a fire on detective he hit. What Ruined City Lies Under Tunisia's Waters?

"Episode from our former host Christian Sagar. This one is about the ruins of a lost Roman city off the coast of Northern, Africa and evidence about what led to its loss a. plus a more fishy finding. FEHB rain stuff Christian Sager here archaeologists recently discovered more than fifty acres twenty hector's of Roman ruins off the coast of northeastern. Tunisia. That's a small country on the northern tip of Africa and situated on the Mediterranean Sea the discovery has researchers believing they may have finally found some convincing evidence that the city of Neapolis not to be confused with the Italian city of the same name that Neapolis was wiped out by a natural disaster about a thousand, six hundred and fifty years ago in addition to streets and monuments. Researchers found about one hundred tanks that would have been used to produce a garum that's a fish based fermented condiment commonly consumed in ancient Rome. In an email, how stuff works spoke to Carlos F Norrena associate professor of history at the University of California Berkeley he says that the discovery is important because it lends support to the theory that Tunisia Neapolis was submerged by a soon Nami in the fourth century. That's a useful reminder that environmental catastrophe is not only a phenomenon of the modern world scientists wrote in a twenty thirteen study in the journal Nature that as soon Nami was caused by an earthquake that occurred in three, sixty, five C E in Crete. There's no sure fire way to know the extent of the quake since measuring tools didn't exist at the time, but scientists believe to separate tremors happened in. Succession and the larger one had a magnitude of eight point zero on the Richter scale. The resulting soon Nami destroyed about fifty thousand homes and killed approximately five thousand people in the city of Alexandria Egypt and because the geological fault at the center of the earthquake was located off the coast of Crete that Greek island was actually lifted up in certain areas by as much as thirty three feet or ten meters. Historian. Honest Mercer lineas recorded the event and the newly found ruins reveal that there's much more to the story. NERINA says, the discovery also illuminates the economy of Roman. North Africa and provides further evidence for the popularity of Garum in the Roman Diet. The detail is significant. Garum was a big deal throughout the Roman Empire and as Italian archaeologist Claudio Geraldino has NPR it played a major role in the society's economy. He says that according to the Roman writers, a good bottle of garum could cost something like five hundred dollars today but that they also had garum for slaves that extremely cheap. So it is comparable to a modern amenity like. For instance, the underwater findings of Neapolis and it's abundant manufacturing materials indicate that the city was a major historical hub Neapolis, which means new city

How to Analyze and Design Linear Machines

How to Analyze and Design Linear Machines

"There are many examples in machine learning where the common currency for communicating information is not a single number, but list of numbers. A list of numbers called a vector for example, the concept of a feature vector, which is essentially a list of numbers was introduced discussed in episode, Eighty and eighty. One of learning machines went one. Briefly a feature factor represents information when way to think of a feature vector is a list of numbers where the first number on the list specifies the activity, level, or response, level or state of simple processing unit. The second number in the feature vector specifies the state of the second processing. Unit. The. Third Element in the feature vector specifies the state of the third processing unit. And, so on if we assume, there are one thousand processing units than the feature, actress called a one thousand dimensional feature vector. Another example is a parameter vector. The parameters of a learning machine are adjusted as the learning machine encounters experiences in its world. Assume the learning machine has ten thousand free parameters that each time the learning machine encounters in new experience in its environment which is typically represented as a feature vector. All Ten thousand free parameters are slightly adjusted during the learning process. We can arrange all ten thousand free parameters as a long order list, and this is what we call a parameter vector. And so, we see that the concept of a vector is actually fundamental to machine learning. It is a very convenient object for the purpose of representing and manipulating concepts and information. There is an entire mathematical theory designed for representing and manipulating vectors, and this is called linear. Just like you can add and subtract and multiply numbers with Linear Algebra. You can add subtract and multiply vectors. A really nice feature of factors is their geometric interpretation. Suppose. We have a learning machine which has only two parameters. So if we have a two dimensional plot where the horizontal x axis this all possible values at the first parameter and the vertical y axis this all possible values of the second parameter. A particular pair of parameter values for learning machine within be represented, just went point or when dot in this two dimensional plot. After the learning machine has a learning experience, the parameters of learning machine justice slightly, and this causes the point in this two dimensional space to move by a slight amount. As. The learning process continues the parameter values of learning machine continue to be adjusted. geometrically, this means that the point now traces out a curve, the this two dimensional space which represents the learning trajectory. Now interestingly enough this same analysis works. If we have a learning machine with three parameters instead of two premier. So in this case we have a single point moving along the learning trajectory in a three dimensional space. In fact, this analysis even works when the learning machine has ten thousand free parameters. In this case, we have a ten thousand dimensional space. But the current parameter values of learning machine are represented by a single point in this ten thousand dimensional space, so this is very nice because we can use our intuitions about geometry to begin to think about learning in high dimensional spaces, so to summarize the first important contribution of linear bre is that provides methods for looking at the similarities and differences between points in high dimensional spaces. But that's not all. Now, consider learning machine which has a numerical output. Assumed the impetus. Learning machine is at one hundred dimensional feature vector. In addition assume the output of the learning machine is awaited some of the elements of the input feature vector where the weights are free parameters. If the learning machine has one hundred inputs than it has one hundred free parameters. Thus the output of the learning machine is computed using the following formula. Take the first element of the input b-actor and multiplied by the first. Predator. Plus. Take, the second element of the input veteran multiplied by the second parameter plus take the third element of the input b-actor. By by the third parameter. And so on. So such a learning machine, whose response simply awaited some of its inputs is called a linear machine. A useful way of describing this computation involves the concept of a dot product operation briefly the response of this learning machine this linear learning machine they be concisely described a simply the dot product of impact or with the Linney. Linear learning machines parameter vector. If the DOT product of the input vector with the linear learning machines, factor is zero then by definition. The linea machines output is equal to zero. geometrically we can plot the parameter vector of the learning machine as a point in a high dimensional state vector. And we can plot the impact. Factors appoint the same high dimensional space now John Arrow from the origin to the parameter vector point we draw another out from the origin to the input vector point. and. It can be shown interestingly enough that the dot product between these two vectors is equal to the coast sign of angle between the two vectors multiplied by their

Summer Wildflowers With Carol Gracie

"I asked when we spoke I. Don't know a few years back upon the publication of your book spring wildflowers of the Northeast The sub pad on the cover of the new book. summer book as on the old one, says unnatural history and I'd like to know what that means. Tell people what that means. Well. It means looking beyond just the beauty of the flowers and learning about how they fit into the environment. And what their importance is to insects or birds or other animals? And sometimes to other plants as well. So, I like people to know how these plants work in the environment. What their what their roles are. You encourage us. I think in the tax in the preface of the book you encourage us when we're looking at Alzheimer's to almost act as a as a burder does when watching birds yeah. Yeah I do because it's not just checking off that you've seen a Canada Lily for example. Or you've seen. Have Sparrow. It's really observing what organism is doing. And there are still things to be learned about even our local wildflowers. That, have not been observed because people just think well, they're common. They've been here forever. Anything that is known about the must be must be written already. But yet if you just take the time and patience to sit there and watch, you could discover something new. And you'll discover something interesting. Fit Your your book in the title and Zeroes in on the northeast, but we should say where that is because it's not a small area, the northeast in terms of ripe. Thank you for doing that. I'm using the concept that was used in gleason and Cronquist, which is the manual for vascular plants of the Northeast and his concept of the north. East goes from southern Canada. Down along more or less than Mississippi River down to. Northern Missouri and across into Kentucky. And So it's a big area I've. Had People say oh I'm from Virginia I'm I'm sorry? I can't buy that book because it doesn't have any of my plants in. But these plans are awesome. Ranging and many of them are in the Midwest and in the. Northern part of the south as well. so for example one. That's in the book. I don't know how you managed to choose I. Mean because there's a lot of plants out there in that regional area that are bloom in the summer from early. To late. But you. You picked A. How many are there in the bucket their third year? Omni Arthur There are more there about thirty five, I, think. More than that, because in some chapters I cover many more than one species. Of Related Species for instance. Right, so for instance you chose Common Milkweed, and there are other milkweed Zvi chose common milkweed, and that is over a far wider range than what we just talked about. Right and that goes even beyond the. Northeast Important! For many reasons, I'm sure all of your listeners are familiar with the milkweed monarch story, but it has many other interactions with other insects in particular. Right make it fascinating to me. So. Let's talk a little bit about that. The species is so it's a sleepiest. Dhia Syria which may sound surprising because it indicates that it comes from Syria. But in fact, that goes back to a mistake that was made back in the sixteen hundreds. When this plant was first brought back to European. To describe. And they it as being the same as a plant that had been discovered in Syria. And thus they lump it into that same species, which is opossums, Syriac Him And, when lineas realized that it was a different. Genus that it was far different from a possum. He'd put it into a different genus asleep, but by the rules of botanical nomenclature he had to keep the the second part of the name, the specific epithet.
