"Speaking of the Rams Cooper Cup joined. I take today to talk about underachieving last year. And what this off season has been like as they've lost. Todd Gurley and Brandin cooks man. I mean obviously. We Fell expectations as last year. There's no getting around that and losing brandon and todd incredible football players. But I wanNA talk that also just really you know quality. People that brought a lot to Our Team Bella to our locker room outside of what they bring on the football field. So I'm GONNA to miss those guys but We've got incredible football players Each of those rooms and You Know I. I can't wait until we can get back out in the field again So he's asking do with with the ball in their hands and You know there's you know you go back to the drawing board. I think a little bit. You refined your identity and You know our our expectations for our self haven't changed at all. You're losing these guys are. Expectations are standards. We hold ourselves to that stuff. Remains the same? It's just about staying true to that grinding. One day at a time saying the foundation and You know by the time this Hopefully we get to football field this year and play some ball but You know our expectations to go out there and compete for championships. I take your take on. Espn RADIO AND ESPN news. I don't remember the last time we saw team sort of fall so quickly in the perception at least in the amount of national coverage they get for everything that they're doing but The Rams are a great example of that now to be continued. We've done every day. We take a look at a different quarterback different team. And then we try and move to step forward by bringing on an expert will do that now as ESPN rams reporter. Lindsey theory joins the show Lindsey. Thanks for the time. Hope you guys are safe and everything's great out there when you look at the rams this year in the fall off from what everyone expected. What is a reasonable expectation? Your mind for the rams going into this season. Yeah that's really hard to predict the just given the strength of the NFC west. Obviously they finished third in the division. Last year of on paper the Arizona Cardinals have gone better this off season while the rams I mean when you look kind of position by position what they've done over the offseason. There's no clear upgrades. I'm they was a great benefit for them to re-sign Michael Brokers after it looked like he was initially leaving for the Baltimore Ravens but From Todd Gurley to brand cooks over on the Defense Dante Fowler. Cory Littleton. All those guys have been different makers for the rams the last few seasons and now they're all gone will. Where did this go wrong? Lindsey 'cause this is certainly wasn't the outcome we expected for the rams years ago. Yeah it comes down to the salary cap and the Rams Decision to sign todd really to a record-breaking deal and then to Right before that. They signed brandin cooks to a whopper of a deal. And then it was Aaron Donald Jared Goff and the way they were signing these yield people around the league. We're kind of scratching their head wondering houses when to work and The Rams insisted that it would continue to work. And then it all kind of catches up to them and now waiting in the queue to get paid is Jalen Ramsey So really it was just they were handing out money In such great amounts and so quickly that there was no real way in the long run to make any of this work. We're talking to. Espn RAMS reporter. Lindsey theory on I take care take. I'm Jason Fitz. So you mentioned the girly deal and he's obviously now with Atlanta. But the there was a moment there. Where Jared Goff sort of took the world by storm and everybody thought it was fixed. And he's he's spectacular. Now it feels like people are scratching their head again. So where are you on on him specifically as an elite quarterback in the NFL well? I can't be overlooked? That in his third season he did lead. The Rams are help them greatly at least a to a super bowl appearance and there were times that season when he absolutely spectacular now last season teams in their defenses opponents. Tend to know that Todd. Gurley wasn't necessarily the same todd. Gurley or at least the ramp using him in the same way which really put jared under the microscope and allow defenses to do some different things and we saw jared struggle Obviously girlies gone this year. So focused really turns jared so I think going into season five for him now. We are really going to see whether he is the quarterback who can leave the team new super bowl or whether he needs a really really strong supporting cast around him in order for him to be successful. Lindsey the joke a year ago is if you've ever had a dinner with Sean mcvay you were going to get a head. Coaching job in the. Nfl feels like some of that. Shyness dulled as well so What kind of is are there on? Sean mcvay right now is head coach to do something better with this team. Yeah I think there's a lot and that starts at the fact that he really overhauled his Coaching staff at least three coordinator positions over the off season he brought in an offensive coordinator because after Matt Leflore last For the Tennessee. Titans a couple of years ago. He didn't replace him. He was the offensive coordinator and he had kind of a duo Run Game Pass game coordinator but really that. I'll keep down to Sean. So he brought us some help there. as we all know he did not bring back. Wade Phillips so he hired a new young unproven defensive coordinator and then he lost his special teams coordinator so All of that really puts the spotlight on Sean. To figure out cable you brought in some guys who you wanted and We'll see if that they can give him the help needs but also If the defensive coordinator for the corner of any of that doesn't go well that's also on Sean so I think By no means is this if I any mean but it's he started. It looked a bit more critical. I after having so much excess. The first two seasons you mentioned earlier we're talking to ESPN RAMS reporter. Lindsey theories it's I take your take on. Espn radio I'm Jason Fitz. You mentioned Jalen Ramsey. Still sort of sitting in the queue waiting to get paid. What's the latest there? Yeah Rams have said that They've spoken with Jalen representatives. They're on the same page However they won't reveal what page that is The rams have really kind of stuck by The phrase that they're taking Kinda one step at a time. They are getting through frequency now. It's the draft. Once they get through that that they'll start looking at those extensions But obviously the rams gave up two first round picks to trade for Jalen Ramsey So a lot of the leverage is in Jalen Corner as they go to negotiate A long term extension and appear the ramp It looks like you really do have to get deals on otherwise It's going to really be a curious decision. Why you gave up two first round for if they don't get a deal done before the season starts. Does it become an issue you know we asked? You? I asked jalen knocked up before. He left for the off season and key to indicate that he would be holding out or and whatnot. He's indicated that you know. He wants his money but he'll be there. Now when push comes shovel really interesting to see how that goes when time comes over to report a camper however it's GonNa turn out This this summer But it's definitely to monitor because we all know that Jalen has made no qualms about it in the past about wanting to get paid and so it's either GonNa be showing a brings trucker or maybe maybe not at all we're talking to. Espn ramps reporter. Lindsey theory on I take your take Jason Fitz so I want to get your thoughts on something. You quote tweeted a couple of days ago from the L. A. Times the they're reporting that the Los Angeles mayor has told high level staffers. Several departments of big gathering sports and concerts might not be approved until twenty twenty one. Obviously everybody's looking for when sports can return but our the rams is an organization dealing with not on the NFL but also the government and trying to figure out when that return could happen. Yeah that's the interesting part of us a Los Angeles mayor and the Rams New Stadium is actually in the city of Inglewood. Which has its own mayor so on the city of Inglewood hasn't made any announcements as far as big gatherings and what they're anticipating. I'm so it's a little bit of You know kind of a logistics There with between being in Los Angeles versus Inglewood am I did reach out to the rams the other day to see Kind of what? Their thoughts were on. What the mayor was saying. Didn't receive a response But I think right now I mean what we've been told through this whole coronavirus situations that really just kinda taking it day by day and they're moving for planning is though the season's GonNa happen that the season is going to happen with fans And they're going to be willing to adjust Obviously as needed. Have you been able to get any sense on how comfortable they are? Lindsey with the draft process overall. That we're GONNA see in less than a week. Virtually being done. Well I know last week. They were concerned because Show McVeigh's house apparently doesn't have a hard wire for phone Jack for telephone so that was would've thought right So that was. The big concern was finding Hardware for a phone Jack But other than that. The Rams have great. It people so I think they'll be able to figure it out. They seem pretty technologically savvy outside and less need tends to make a lot of jokes about his ability to technology but I think they're pretty confident that they'll be able to pull it together. Like every other teams in the league. You guys can follow on twitter at Lindsey Theory Lindsey. We really appreciate your time. Stay safe out there. Thank you so much for the coverage expertise thank you so you know Lindsey breaking down and just a reminder obviously you know California is going to be a complication that the NFL won't know an answer to anytime soon. Triple eight say ESPN eight. Eight eight seven two nine three seven seven six guys out on the rams at this point. Eric in Washington. What's your take on the rams? Hey how you guys do on. Thanks for taking my call him. Hey you know. I'm all in Bro. I mean I'm a big fan so I'm kind of partial to that. But you got Malcolm Brown coming back. That got broke his arm in two thousand eighteen. That are Super Bowl. Run and He was on track to have a great season before that happened. Daryl Henderson behind him. I think he's going to have a breakout season this year..

"Listen to your podcast. Here comes the show all right joining me on the show now talking about the rams and what is a slightly less exciting offseason than perhaps the rams have had in years past is our report here at. Espn Lindsey theory. Lindsey how are you? Hi Bella doing well out here in. La Getting electrifies mostly stayed at home these days. That's fair that's fair. Yeah I mean it was certainly a an interesting week for the rams when it came to free to see we'll start with the big story for the rams will start with Todd Gurley. Who of course was cut by the rams last week after week? Where they were trying to trade him. There was a deadline that was set for his contract to guarantee in the future and the rams decided to cut guy who was a book. Mvp candidate two years ago even a pretty good player recently as two thousand eighteen four struggling in two thousand nine hundred a guy who of course the rams had been denying having knee injury has denied that he was one hundred percent. I mean in terms of this whole Todd Gurley. Saga was there in element of surprise for you. Were you shocked that they did decide to cut him or did you kind of see this as a sort of the natural end to? It's been really strange. Couple years for girly and the rams. Yeah bill it been like you said a very strange Year and a half plus for early in the Rams I would not short by any means that they caught him. You can kind of see the wheel. The motion that something had to give But at the end of the day on the other hand you are still pretty surprised right because it was less than two years ago that the rams are giving him a record-breaking deal for a running back on that they're talking about how excited they are have a core piece who will carry them into their future which includes open. Twenty twenty season in so-fi stadium. So when you kind of look at the last twenty months. That's really when girly got hurt. So it's only July eighteen that they gave him the extension of the thing. In this short time fan. He went from the end. All be all of this organization to just cut in a tweet. It is surprising. So in terms of girly I mean this is a guy who even as recently as lead December even though less stayed was saying that tiger really was not producing the same numbers list. He was saying that he didn't regret the contract. He gave girly and that he can still come back. And get to a higher level in two thousand twenty. So I mean. Do you think that was just posturing at the time? Do you think something changed in terms of their viewpoint over the last few months just sort of you know ignoring reality at the time and sort of just. They had faced at this point in terms of their cap situation. Can I say about I? I from the very beginning when when todd had the knee injury on toward the end of the regular season in two thousand eighteen minutes. And it really. It's not even a knee injury. It is condition that is obviously the result of having reconstructive knee surgery from back when he was Georgia But Todd Gurley in the ram which would include Sean mcvay less need And even teammates. It's like they were never on the same page about how they were. Going to handle girly going forward. Was this a snack count. Was this shift in trying to prolong his career. Was this That you really truly believe that looking Brown and Darryl Henderson were worthy of more Kerry's Just never got the sense that that entire group was on the same page. He does clearly Greeley was not this before he was not hurdling anybody. He wasn't breaking. He broke away for no long touchdown. Runs if you're just a signature move of Todd Gurley to break through that third level. So he clearly was a different player then again the rams continue to tell us no the same todd Gurley. He's the same girly and none of it ever matched up and you can just feel the frustration from both sides kind of coming in going throughout the season as much as they tried to keep it in house. You mentioned you know that Gurley was not the same player you mentioned that he didn't have those long explosive games which is one hundred percent true but of course. I have to ask the same time. The rams offensive line was a bit of a disaster this year. I mean they. They turned over multiple pieces on the interior. There were injuries. Both their tackles. Enter Whitworth and wrap having Stein who had been playing at a pro bowl that will in two thousand eighteen declined in twenty nine thousand nine hundred in terms of watching girly play even beyond those explosive plays. How much of the decline in terms of the numbers do you put on girly? And how much do you on the offensive line? Not being effective. Yeah I put a lot of it on the offensive Atlanta. Y'All have to put it on play calling. I mean frankly. They weren't looking hand the ball to him. I mean time. His snap count wasn't drastically down from what has been in the past but he's touches were down they weren't giving in the ball and there's a direct correlation to how when. Todd Gurley carries the ball with Todd. Gurley touches the football Teen eighteen twenty times random tend to win more of the Games But when he was down in the lower number the games they lose defense is obviously. Don't have to buy on that. They don't have to bite on the play action and SETS BACK DOWN TO THE OFFENSIVE LINE. And what they were able to do so. I will ever know exactly how much was offensive line. That was not consistent with injured. And was frankly young and inexperienced. How much of it was play calling and Charles Day wanting to evolve in audrey so relying on early and how much of it just came down to kind of the perfect storm. I kinda know the answer to that makes sense in terms of that running back situation right now. The the the depth chart includes Brown Daryl Henderson the twenty nine thousand nine third round. Pick and John Kelly. Do you see the rams adding a running back to that. Rotation over the rest of the off season I do now from Brown has been a good number two serviceable backup. He has This season had more of an opportunity to kind of goal line situations and he is a good running back. I don't know that he's a feature back. In fact I would absolutely lean to the fact that he's probably not feature back Darrell Hennessy. We didn't learn too much about my no. There was a lot of stigma that he was kind of that. Change of pace back in the third round that of Memphis Last year hit a couple of injuries. That happened a couple of kind of rookie. Mistakes at the end of the season when you would have had maybe a bigger opportunity. He hurt his ankle. But again I I think the rams are probably going to have to look to the draft and and bring in another back name. Someone who's more of a feature back who can just kind of the football a little bit more Because let's keep in mind while Todd. Gurley wasn't Who we were used to seeing last season. He's still with a really good running back. You could depend on to do his job and right now. The Rams don't really have that Ghauri look to and has established himself as a feature back. Yeah I mean obviously Daryl Henderson could prove to be that guy but he didn't seem to be that guy last year as a rookie Another person's come up for trade rumors. Recently on the offense Brandin cooks a guy who like early shortly into a a massive extension. A guy who did struggle last year injuries being a concert. Concussions being a big conservative brandin cooks POW. How much stock do you put in? Cook trade rumors. And what do you think the rams would sort of expect back in a Brandin cooks trae? That would make them seriously. Consider making that move. Yeah I think there's a lot said about what's going on whether that much smoke. There's definitely fire. I think that The Rams have received several phone calls about Brandin cooks It'll be interesting to see engage. Exactly what they'd be willing to give. Brennan up for our please. I think your contract is that. It's a very cumbersome contract and you kind of get the details and the kind of money and the dead money involved in it Not mentioned obviously the cap hit but as for what they want in return it. It's kind of hard to say because Brennan's guy who is being paid like a number one receiver and frankly last season's didn't come close to produce it on that kind of level now part of that was because he had a couple of concussions and he was sidelined for a few weeks because of those out of abundance of caution Part of that is. He just hasn't played a huge role in the offense. Jared Goff and maybe again this kind of goes back to the running game in the office of lying Offensive Line couldn't provide maybe perhaps enough protection so it is. It is third cooks issue. Is it a cook issue? Is it a is it a sean? Mcvay offense issue But I think that they are listening to calls on Brandon just to see if they can find a solution to to maybe having a guy out there. They're deep threat. I mean the guy who we know is extremely talented and who on his day can be borderline uncovered but you mentioned the concussions The the workload has never really been there even when he signed that extension. I wrote about it and I remember saying that he was a guy who you know had consistently been a one way or a number two guy who had never been sort of that you target. Haag in the same way that Jerry Hopkins or even as defined digs would have been in the past so yeah really interesting player and really interesting. Trae candidate there. We've seen just to add that also and it's too early to it's like with the rams with these kind of to marking guide and the kind of current climate that we're in Because the corner buyers and people are able to get the players aren't able to get these physicals and whatnot It really makes you wonder behind the scenes. How much data defecting their trademark it And what teams are willing to give up not knowing exactly what they're getting in return because of They're not able to go through these physicals and have been Tom early. Pace that need checked out. Brennan Cooks case. Maybe go through some some check to see what's going on with the concussions and whatnot now. Of course the same thing with genetic and cloudy with infrequency. Now it's sort of. Do you want to commit that much? Money to a guy when he does have microfracture surgery in his past. And you don't know what the current status of his knees so yeah absolutely. We're seeing teams. We go for more familiar players and we saw that with the offensive line as well here with the rams where they did. Come back and re-sign Andrew Whitworth to a new deal to come back as left tackle. Now he slept of course at last year. Not play the same level. At least to my is that he had in years past committed a ton of penalties when that had not been something he'd struggle with in years past so with Whitworth. Is it just a situation where it was miliary? And they you know. The Rams didn't really have any alternatives. Do they stole sort of harbor? Hope that he's going to be the franchise left tackle. He was in two thousand seventeen and twenty eighteen. You Watch you watch. Andrew play last season Philly good left tackle but guys thirty eight years old now. Of course there's GonNa be a natural recline The key in bringing him back though was the fact that they just don't know who their next left tackle is They drafted Joseph. Nope boom a couple of years ago at TCU. They were hoping he could be the next left. Tackle you play guard this last season before. He suffered a season ending me injury. Obviously that sets him back even if he were healthy. I'm not sure that the rams were going to say hit on that. That's our left tackle so right now. I think they're still very very much. The drawing board as far as who will succeed. Andrew Whitworth is so for. Now it's kind of that. Stopgap in between hoping he can bridge them to figuring out with certainty who their neck black left tackle is going to be Absolutely on the defensive side of the ball. We haven't talked about it too much because of the curly story. But a bunch of turnover there. As well two veterans leaving the Roster Dante Fowler the edge rusher and then Michael brokers the longtime defensive lineman replacement players who are younger and who are coming for different organizations and honestly you know are not making that much less money than the players. They are replacing. Still getting pretty big deals in Leonard Floyd in a Shawn Robinson so less money for sure but were you surprised the rams weren't bigger players for Fowler or brokers yeah absolutely and it wasn't just linebacker. Cory Littleton drafted free agent..

"All of those guys based on their athleticism but because of the success that the Russell Wilson's it all of these guys are having there sitting back and Santa themselves. Okay I see what this is where you got a guy like orgy three. WHO's backing up? Lamar Jax Yep other teams. Even give him an opportunity to be back to Peter me. It could be a man. Leave the Peterman out of this. Speaking of the raiders leaders in Jon Gruden. They would be in the playoffs if they started today. They're at home looking for their first win in their win. This football game going away. I think when you look at the raiders. Is it what they do on the offense aside body run the ball with Jacobs they throw the ball into tidy. Defense plays well in the front seven. Secondary is always a suspect here there but for for the most part it's the Cincinnati Bengals Cincinnati is looking toward getting the number one pick overall and moving into next year. They don't have a football team. I believe that they can put on the field in. beat the raiders at all. I just don't think they have enough. Talent the raiders have been far better than any of us thought and they thought they wanted to feed it now. You did not think that you thought they went four or five. They already got at five and they've got an easy schedule. They may not win another game. I'll take that as just broken. How the chiefs and the chargers on Monday night football key the chiefs have a lead in that division right now but this is exactly what's going on the chiefs have to play the chargers who maybe aren't great? But they're not bad. Where the raiders? Get the Bengals who are bad the chiefs going to kick this division away. I don't think so the chargers you know you say they're not bad but then we look out there last week and we watch Philip rivers and we go back to your sleep give way let the guy the tyrod Taylor takeover because right now. Philip rivers isn't showing us that he is for the long haul the rest of the way for the San Diego toward the L. A. Charges. He seems like this is the end of the line for him and I wouldn't be surprised at the end of the day. If they don't extend him a contract and they allow him to just go off into free agency are of course. We got Sunday night football as well at the Coliseum Rams and the Chicago Bears Lindsey theory will join us next to tell us what we should should be looking for. That's coming up all right so Sunday. Night football at the coliseum tonight of course the rams are taken on the Chicago bears both the Rams and the bears currently out of the playoff picture. Sure a win for either one of these teams. Keep them alive. Moving forward joining us right now is. ESPN's Lindsey theory. Lindsey Good Morning. How are you good morning guys? How's it going? How you doing Lindsey just here at the casino enjoying ourselves or keep it well? No no no. He's going to. We will not be gambling near. Lv if we decide to gamble. That's for sure Z.. Lenzi the first reason why you know your success was that all the haters can try to nip at your heels. They're afraid of success. Speaking of success. What do the rams need to do to be successful in Sunday? Pray for their offense of line. Now just kidding yes the offense of line they have free. I your starters that are going against the defense. That isn't quite as good as it was last year. But it's still very very very good features Khalil Mack So that's going to be a very very tall task for You Look at David Edwards Austin in Corbett Cut and then it could be a Bobby Evans. A guy who's been inactive. Who starts at right tackle so the offensive line is definitely something to watch this Sunday? Lindsay Theory SPN joining us course. She covers the rams and joins US every single Friday. What's the mood like around around the team Lindsey? Obviously the team came in with big expectations. They've made some moves on the roster along the way and it really hasn't clicked to now they're on the outside looking in they're going to catch a couple of breaks. What is the mood around the facility? Yeah they're saying all the right things they're going to continue to fight that there's still a chance that they're going to stick together but there has been a noticeable downturn turn in just how upbeat everybody is. I mean they really came into the season not expecting any kind of super bowl hangover day kind of expected that they knew knew how to operate it. They knew exactly what they needed to do. To make eight other playoff run and they thought they were doing the same things and obviously it hasn't worked out so obviously obviously it's a disappointment that there's there's a feeling that perhaps they have let one get by or let one go but they're trying to say is upbeat as possible lizzy theory here joining us on the morning. Show Lizzie. The Rams obviously offense stalled last week didn't get anything. Going went from vertical. Stretch Game Brandin cooks out of the lineup right now. Do you have any sense at all what they might do. In terms of the receiver position position in the rotation to try to maybe get something vertical down the field. We're GONNA throw Josh Reynolds back out. There they have a lot of confidence and then he started eight games games last season. Of course that was more in Robert Wood position not physician But they're gonNA put him back out there. The the thing about it though Brandin cooks Josh Reynolds isn't capable and good receiver. But he just doesn't command the attention. That brandin cooks does. Therefore you can look at a guy like Cooper Cup and they can put more attention on him which is obviously what we saw last Sunday when he didn't have a single catch And was double team. Throw a lot of the game so it no doubt changes the dynamic of their receivers group. And what you're goths able to do but let's face it. Jerry didn't really have a Lotta time to throw the ball deep last week. Anyway Todd girlies or lease instagram account. Had A really interesting post of him doing work against the steelers with basically time to go underneath. Has that been in something that's been on. The coaching sows radar recognizing that maybe their star running back is getting frustrated with its opportunities. What this whole todd? Gurley thing just continues to grow a little bit weird or by the day I mean. Obviously there was all the talk through the off season about his knee. That was that he was growing very frustrated with a very tired of when the season started kind of turned into asking. Todd if you'd like to carry the ball more I'm if he'd like to Baltimore his routine answers can look. I don't call the plays and then on Sunday. I asked him after the game on the fourth quarter doesn't sound like you WanNa be on the field you and and he comes to it so I said it rolling frustration from todd now. He's not going to see that. I asked US frustrated last night. He he kind of pivoted and answered another question But I said that there is a tension growing between the run game and just the overall off as lack of ability. It really get going Lindsey. We've heard Sean mcvay offer explanations as to why it's been the way that it's been as far as you know with the offense that's op two minute offense and you know they've got a rotation in the flow of the game. We've heard all those things. None of them really add up any sort of meaningful explanation. What do you do you think is the reason that todd girlies not getting used in those moments? Yeah I would want to load management that they were kind kind of saving him. I mean I'd Multiple Times that he's on any kind of program but that's the only thing that really makes sense but then again down here they are. They were in week ten last week there leak. Eleven like what. Are you saving him for your known in the play. Your increasingly how the playoff picture each laws. So there's no reason to manage his low to save them for tomorrow. Tomorrow might not come so it just it doesn't make any sense why todd girlies out there and that's kind of the only way to slice it anymore Do the first part of season that okay. There's still winning this saving todd for late in the season and further late playoff push but as long as they continue to deny any load. Benjamin that Lizzie. Do you think is personal because I do. I think there's some personal issues going on with todd. Gurley Sean McVeigh and he offers a staff. I believe having played any. NFL and been around this type of system is situations that China McVeigh is in a situation. We're going to utilize todd Gurley to his Max. Because he feels that he can do better without having to deal with someone sort got a demanding that he be used. You know what you've been there. You've you've experienced it so I think that your sense is probably closer to truth and not I. You know at this point every option on what's going on between those guys is open for exploration and I. I wouldn't be surprised prize if there was something else going on behind the scenes that is also kind of now carrying over to the field just because this is so bizarre. It's too it's an offense former offensive player the guy who's power their entire offense and now it's the guy that's Sean and saying the fourth quarter they wanted to go to Malcolm Brown because he's he's performed well too and that makes Eurocents at all. So there's something else going on and and I think he might be onto something you don't lose the go all the way back back to the Atlanta game I go back to. I don't call the plays I go back to. What else is saying on twitter? All of those sorts of things are pointing in a direction that there's some issues there because you go to Atlanta game and you look you were there. You probably didn't get a chance to see it. But when Jared Goff scores this touchdown tiger earliest sitting on the bench next to Jalen Ramsey opposed to standing up watching his team score or getting ready for the next play to go in and I sit there and I said I know what that means. That means I'm not messing with you. Don't say nothing to me and I don't care that's what that means. I know what it means. Yep we saw it on the monitors and at the time. It was just kind of hard tech to decipher as you're sitting in the press box looking on a monitor with no audio on the screen But yeah you see some of these things and it does. It doesn't think coop by all means So I you know like I said you been in the the locker room a lot of your life. You kind of know how dynamic start to work very well could be what we're seeing so we got the bears coming coming up in a lot of people are pointing to that game last season against the bears as maybe the the crack that starter for the rams offense what do you expect them to do offensively. Excellent this go round that jerk off and cold weather or other bears at the beginning of their Q.. Heels for this team yeah. The bears were the first team last year to to really stop Shawn's eleven personnel schemes. Sean dimension you six one. It's something they again. Obviously the Super Bowl something. They've seen at times again. This season though to expect but they kind of know what to expect a lot of the season they still have been able to solve that riddle again..

"We have two teams that are influx in some strange way to talk about on today's show. We're GONNA get to the Browns who had their best game of the year. I think on Sunday beating the Ravens later on in the show at Jake Trotter but first joining me to talk about the three and one Los Angeles Rams who I think are in a really interesting spot right now in terms of their exceeding expectations and simultaneously failing to back expectations is his The beat writers covers the rams. It's Lindsey Theory Lindsey. How are you good. How are you today bill. I'm good and I wanted to bring you on. I talk abuse of halfway between the Rams game yesterday and sort of in in the second quarter I think because obviously they were in a very strange. I think twenty one nothing to the buccaneers. it was a obviously surprising game ended up becoming a a very fun came to watch it was crazy and back and forth from the bucks ended up winning fifty five forty but I think we're in such an interesting spot with the rams because the NFC is so wide open. There's no real dominant team right now and so I guess where I want to start is as with this I if you told me for the year or the Rams Fan before the year they were. GonNa Start Three in one. I think you'd say okay well. That's not too bad. They have some tough games to start the year. If you had told they were gonNA blow out the saints and then lose to the buccaneers at home. I think they would have been very confused by what happened over the first month of the year so just to start how do you. I think based on what you're hearing from. The fancy follow you. How do you think fans are feeling about this three and one starting about this rams team right now right now. I don't you get the sense at least on social media which is not always the best gauge but I don't get the sense that people are excited and happy with what they're seeing gene. you know the the standard for the rams is no longer just to win but it's to win in exciting fashion and that's what Sean mcvay deliver deliver the last two seasons this offense like a well oiled machine it was exciting it was todd. Cooper Cup Robert Woods and then you throw in Brandin cooks on the deep balls calls and everything just looks like it ran so well and now this season. It's come to a screeching halt. They're not scoring touchdowns. There is no todd girly and Jared Goff does not look like a quarterback who just signed a hundred and ten million dollars guaranteed contracts. Yeah I mean I. It's weird because as you look at the numbers this team scored thirty three points yesterday our offense where thoroughly points defense out of the pick six jared Goff through for over five hundred yards they had two receivers over a hundred twenty yards but absolutely I mean it does feel like an animal. If you agree with this it seems like do the offensive feels disjointed maybe or even and if it is productive it doesn't have that same sort of smoothness to it or that same sort of consistency when it comes to just blowing teams away. Dr After Dr Yeah. I think that's a really fair way to put it in and it is misleading because you you do look at the score for master anything they're scoring but it's now been through four first quarter. They haven't scored a touchdown in to their four games. They haven't scored a first half touchdown but when he really just the eyeballs has it doesn't pass when you have watched McVeigh's offense last two seasons compared to what they do now. Jared Goff is throwing a step behind receivers on several place now. Don't get me wrong. Oh he's still has a few signature passes that I mean one to Robert Woods yesterday another in the end zone to Gerald Everett where you just say wow I mean he's just really putting in a perfect spot. Were only his receiver can catch it but again there's just too many other throws where you're kind of shaking your head and there's did a few play designs from Sean mcvay where he's clearly trying funeral thing which it's hard to fault him for that when you saw the results of the Super Bowl and clearly elite teams are catching onto his tricks but if you didn't play designs that really have just been completely shut down so it's this offense right now just doesn't look like they even know exactly who they wanna be where everything wants started with girly run yesterday girly only had five carrier so it y- it's really hard to determine. I mean almost like an air raid. Yesterday I think gop sixty passages which is an absurd number for him. Yes sixty eight pass attempts hamstring jared Goff seventy dropbox which I mean just you know to your point. It's like a college offense and and even given up the rams are comfortable throwing the football a lot right and we're reasonably effective if not necessarily dominant throwing the football yesterday and given that they're playing a tough bucks run defense you can not. I wouldn't fault them atone for throwing throwing the ball more frequently than it might seem but yeah I mean I. It just seems like this is an offense that is in transition and I I wonder do you attribute some of this to to shove phase plan of having his starters having offense basically sit during the preseason which has been the case for several years. It seems like well I I think that given some of the changes that they're trying to implement I that seems to play some role in it now. It's maybe a little hard to tell just because they didn't play in the preseason last year and they went to the super bowl and they looked fantastic. so given the changes aren't wholesale changes. I mean they're still mostly. There is awesome adjustment there mostly in eleven personnel it's it's kind of hard to say why this season is such a slow start when they didn't play in the preseason last year. It was best start but you know they are working. Jared Goff is working behind a pretty new offensive line. the Rams Lost Roger Sappho awful the very very sturdy left guard and Free Agency and John Sullivan who was breaking down physically. They're old center but mentally he was so sharp art and every player on the offense always looked at him and and news conferences weekly or talking at their lockers they would always talk about with John brought to the field as as far as identifying what a defense was doing and so now you replace those two players is to first year offensive linemen and I think this is kind of the results that this offense of line isn't a sturdy as it once was which obviously affects jared. Goff also affects times early in the run game. Yeah I mean absolutely the offensive line was something I wanted to bring up because you know heading into the year I brought up you thought about the guys you were you mentioned who are being replaced our Joseph no boom and Brian Allen now on the interior and figured okay. There'd be a drop off there. It's you know the center is going to have to take more of the you know responsibilities for setting protections Jared Gospel tick more of that role and it's an inexperienced players versus John Sullivan relevant Roger Sapphires. One of the best guards football and you know might work out great. They happen to find a replacement but you'd figure is going to be a transition period. How are are the tackles playing a you've figured that would be the strength of the offensive line with Andrew Whitworth Hall of fame caliber player to me and having seen two guys. Who are you know on on expensive contract contracts but through four games they have five holding penalties and last year they had three combined holding penalties over the entire season? So how are they playing or. It's just sort of random small sample. What's happening the tackles playing at the same level they were a year ago. I would definitely say that they are not in that started rob haven Stein so he between the false start penalties holding penalties. He's also been beat on several plays which once in a while that is going to happen thing but it just seems to be happening a higher rate and he's gone against them. Good ends in Kim Jordan my Garrett but rob has not played what he would probably say to his standard and then on the other side Andrew Whitworth has been called for holding now so those tackled while we can't just harp on the interior of the line and the young guys those also haven't been playing to the standard which they did the last couple of seasons now getting we'll have open locker room today and we'll probably stop and talk to those tackles and asked is it because they're perhaps trying to make up for a weakness on the interior is it perhaps because they are just getting beat. 'cause it seems like there's more going on. I'm considering those two guys. Last two seasons had no issue and this season now. It's becoming an issue yeah and it seems like maybe the you know the stuff you mentioned about trying new concepts on offense sort of get them out of their comfort zone. I think you know this was an offense that for so long was able to just run outside sights on on play action off outside zone moving with so consistent they had a level of continuity with their own another where really changed one offensive lineman between two thousand seventeen and twenty eighteen so line at sort of coalesce. Everyone knew everyone else was going to do from play to play and it seems like that's not necessarily the case right now and you mentioned thou impact. Todd Gurley and of course tiger is being impacted in another way and then I guess it depends on whether you whether you're paying attention to what's actually happening on the field or you're listening into the rams. The Rams have denied that there is a load management situation with Todd Gurley It seems like in reality though that's not actually the case. Is that fair yeah. I think it's fair to say I kind of waited. A little bit wanted to obviously Sean McVeigh said it's not a load management situation but you watch the first game we watch the second game now we have four samples and while his snapping was actually up this last week that does skew it a little bit. They weren't given the ball in the running game but at least the first three weeks his snap count was down fifteen percent from what it was a season ago and there's clearly we've been in office effort to have this offense not run through todd. Gurley and that's I think we're all this whole thing. Trips up is because Todd Gurley he was the NFL's often the player the air Tuesday's ago. He's an old pro running back when Sean mcvay came to Los Angeles everything went around Todd Gurley in and Shawn said multiple times throughout the offseason through all this knee stuff that todd remain the focal point of the offense and anybody who's watched this team for the last four weeks. I would have to agree I. I don't Know How could that talked really is not the focal point of this offense and therefore that puts way more pressure on Jared Goff and right now. It's not really been able to consistently handle that aren't Lindsey. Let's talk more about this rams offense and their struggles in a moment but first guys hiring can be a slow process ass and cafe all tourists. Coo Dylan Moskowitz needed to hire a director of coffee for his organic coffee company but you might expect given that say very niche title well. He was having trouble finding qualified applicants. Well thank you guys know what he did. He switched to SIP recruiter..

"They just were out manned by Ohio state. Ohio state was a better football team all the way around but I mean but it has a real. I like Klay Hilton. I like him personally early. I want to send me as like because you know when people say you know I'm really I know you might like him. Personally football what I was going to say though is like. has there ever really been a point where it's felt like USC. The community the fans the school all that has really been confident in them like when they first I hired him. He was seen as a guy that got along well with the players that they reacted well to him. He's somebody that can deal with scandal and help clean up some of the things things that were going on like he's a guy that keep things on the straight narrow but has there ever really been a point where the consensus on Clay Helton has been that guy is a great coach. I think he gave me fair. I think it's a little well you know I go back and falls on all of this. I could get a little angry at times when we go out there and we play like we don't no not play football but I also understand the coaching game. I let us understand the fans and also understand that the alums and people that support the situation -Tuation and don't support the situation so I go back and forward where I feel like he is a good football coach but I feel like he is loyal at time to a fault way too who long and that can essentially be the end of a situation for coach when they become so loyal to their staff and to other people at a certain last year staff like even if you were willing to give Klay Hilton the benefit of the doubt it was obvious he needed an upgrade yeah but in theory he got that upgrade this year at least according according to some people bring it Ingraham heroin a different type of offense to in one did the okay we don't lose we shouldn't lose two teams like Byu we shouldn't but y you is a power five buster regardless freshman quarterback screen mode on the rolled hostile environment white out at twelve thirty altitude to to whatever you. WanNa call it well I. I'm talking about the shirts in stance and when you look at that you have to give them the benefit of the doubt he loses his quarterback. Rebecca plan withdrew freshman straight out of high school and now all of a sudden. He's pushed into the lineup on the road. Is I start so you okay. They had a chance to win the game the problem with having a chance to win the game is that you didn't win the game because you may coach mistakes along the way when you had a chance. You don't coaches you. Don't see Urban Myers in Ann Arbor Myers in in urban Meyer's in urban Meyer's an urban Meyer's and that's a remix. You don't see those guys make those type of mistakes at the end of games you don't see Nick Sabin on a consistent basis. Make those mistakes at the end of the game so Dabo Swinney so what we want. Is We want that. We don't want the Howdy do look and oh well. Gee golly week. It's who but nice guys tend to finish last in Clay Helton has been finishing finishing in the popular opinion fans and boosters in alums. He's been finishing last way too often to show of the people returns with with more morning wakeup fun next on the morning. Oh is one of us was adopt tonight on WHO's. The boss keyshawn joins the candidates rather. He's your brother rather episode all right the rams heading down to Cleveland this weekend should be funds. Sunday night match up a lot of hype with the browns and joining us to break it all down. She covers the rams. ESPN Lindsey Theory Lindsey. How are you guys good morning. How are you you bet you hit me with this morning. I still don't know pop culture no. I don't think I think you we don't the songs we were just trying to figure out if you were my my real sister and not because the for some reason your name is Lindsay Johnson so you know we were having one of those conversations about being being family members numbers and things of that nature but let's have a conversation about the rams and the Cleveland browns the rams take on the browse this Sunday night Sunday night football the rams obviously have gotten off to who are pretty hot start taking care of one of their nemesis in the NFL the New Orleans Saints last week now on the face red hot cleveland browns and Baker Mayfield. They headband headband. What are we looking for. When the rams go to Cleveland to play the browns from a defensive standpoint for the for the rams against Baker Mayfield offense are the browns really red hot there one in one or now red HOT CLEVELAND STANDARDS. That's not they're not red house like five hundred with with the rooms defense they're really just looking to try to contain. Odell Beckham Junior and I was talking to the defensive back yesterday. They've also got to be sure to stay with their guy as long as possible because we all know. Baker Mayfield likes to hold onto the football for quite some time which Chamisa obviously coverage. They're going to be with their guy for maybe four or five a keep told me maybe even six seconds so they have their challenges cut out for them. Baker Mayfield do hold onto the ball at the CREPE place. If you look at Aaron Donald in terms of into quarterback hasn't had a lot of success this season so far in the first two games but Baker Mayfield is MSAC the number of times. He's been harassed a number of times. What you see in this game for Aaron Donald going up against offense offense align big big things Aaron Donald. Not a guy who wants to go to the season he he he didn't want to have a slow start district. You went to trachea the first time in two years studied have a fast start so the fact that he has no sacks thirteen games. I think pregnancy Erin breakthrough against Baker Mayfield and against his browse off at the blind now the one thing that kind of watching is that Aaron has been listed with a back issue at this week on the practice or on the injury report so it'll be really interesting to see if errands a full go I expect him to be but I just see if the rams are going to kind of monitor that because you don't really WanNa back thing lingering Portland one or two games. Obviously your latest tweet a Lotta. DMP's did not practice you mentioned about Aaron. Donald was limited. Tyler didn't in practice Austin didn't practice not combine is limited because of the ankle injury. Are we going to see all these guys out there face. Baker now I would be it shocked. If tight end tyler higby played along it was a lung issues lung contusion and he has not been anywhere near the practice field this week so I'd be surprised to see him play Sunday. Austin blazed there right guard. He was doing some exercises on the field. Yesterday he looked pretty good until all of a sudden he tried to run on that sprained ankle and that did not go well so they've cocoa more days to try to get him right but even with him. I'd be surprised if he could make it a whole game if he played Arron expect to CNN Malcolm. I also expect to see on Sunday lizzy theory rams. ESPN insider join us here on the morning show so when and you look at it from the rams offense to standpoint protecting Jair Golf Todd Gurley got off to a slow start but he seems to be coming back to form. They're going up against miles geared on that offense allying. He's had a hell of a game obviously against the New York jets but the rams office is a little bit different. I'm sure you're the assignment on Whit on Whitworth will be there can whitworth withstand this young gun coming around the edge for entire four quarters. I I think that that myles Garrett probably get him. play on on Sunday. That's not to say Andrew Whitworth and rob. Haven Stein can't handle him obviously they. You can't but you know this last week. The rampant Camp Jordan and I know it's a little bit of a different animal but Robinson had a difficult time. It was probably among the kind worst performances I've seen from rob over the last few seasons so it kind of makes you wonder what else is perhaps going on the line that they can tackle job more difficult difficult. the rams line is still very much a work in progress despite having those two veterans on the end. I'm only look on the interior though they're all I your starters. I just Austin bluffs cannot play or cannot play a full game on Sunday so that line still has some work and I think perhaps just because offensive lineman aren't very sexy to write about. It's probably one of the more understated things that the rams are working through this season. Lindsey you've got a new piece up at ESPN with the headline note to Odell Tale Beckham junior no divas in the rams receiving room talking about talking about the camaraderie between Robert Woods Cooper Cup Bran in Brandin cooks. What do you think is the effect of those guys having that type of relationship when it comes to the receiving core and the team yeah for the record. I don't write headlines but that was a pretty good headline that that receiving core they just they. They get along so well but it's just you you just don't really see a lot of guys who are genuinely happy for each other when somebody else performs well and they're not getting their touches you know. Robert Woods only had two targets which is kind of insane because he's usually jared go to guy but now cups back in the lineup and even Robert Woods took it all at strike. They were all happy to see. She cut out there. so it really it takes the burden off of gothic takes the burden off of Sean McVeigh when you don't have to worry about making sure that your starring Seabra it gets x amount of targets X. amount of yards because these guys all really do seem to buy into the fact that it might not be you today but it might be next week so I I think it just it really relieves a lot of pressure on the locker room and on the often Lenzi very quickly here. I understand that there was an unusual visitor her to practice yesterday I'm like can you tell us what happened with the Tarantula and did you step on no and I'm just like shrugged it. It's I'm cringing right now. I Hate Spider. A couple of weeks at one of their operations. People put Fota Tarantula on the field on Instagram is like Oh that has to be pat that broke loose and also last night. We're trying to write our stories. In this translated like right. There is a door stop trying to walk in the building and it seriously seriously I makes my skin crawl even thinking about it. We're living amongst the creatures and the critters out in thousand oaks at the Rams Facility. It's it's so disgusting as a tryout or was it was it during tryout position is going join for like. Maybe it's special teams. Perhaps Elsie. That's so random. I tried to come in and kill US tarantulas poisonous. You'll be fine don't do they don't really do anything. They're not a black widow weird though just wanted on you. You're really acting tough right now. I guarantee yeah. That thing was walking into your studio right now. We'd be hearing some shrieks keyshawn. I know you would believe she's the same one that wrote an article talking about diva so I'm alone. Lindsey theory covers the rams for ESPN appreciate the time Lindsey thank you thanks guys Should we change the mat-su men's shoe man to be a men's shoe a moustache bash man. I must ask me the toast of the NFL of last night's win over the Titans Jaguars Sixth Round Rookie quarterback Gardner Menchu and his moustache and his porn star look he is Brown. It's true no it is he was offered. He's offered some money by one all of these companies that do some stuff. He likes to stretch with just the JOCKSTRAP. That's not me fantasize and that's history port or not strap or sometimes jockstrap swim swim nude all weird stuff. That's a weird quarterback. MMA quarterback so weird. They're like kickers. Did you see the WHO did a zoo manda blue steel face to so when he was warming up he turned to the camera it was a perfect blue steel and then he went back and started warm look. He led them to victory last night. They got their w they're out of the the the L. Column into the W. Column. He certainly seems like he's here to stay in the National Football League six round pick but when you are a six round pick a quarterback. You're going to make the team and you're GONNA be around if you have talent typically six round picks get cut but when they draft a quarterback eating only guy at deposition that they're drafting they may bring a guy in and free agency like a street free agent that is went to college college football but didn't get drafted. He's undrafted guy assigns but when you're a draft a guy like men she was he has some talent..

"So it was real wave of emotion here at the end between the booth cheers. And then just the dead. Silence. I'm with that crazy ending. So let me ask you this because Todd Gurley who's been such a vital part of this Rams offense. Or at least he was for about the first thirteen games since that knee injury. He hasn't really looked the same today. Only four carries. I believe for about ten yards. Do you think that the function of his ineffectiveness was due to injury? No, I don't I talking to Sean McVay after the game, and they just stopped at C J Anderson was working for them on Todd kind of had a couple of characteristic mistakes early that pass it skipped off his arms. That was intercepted. He dropped that pass on third down, and they just weren't able to get going under him. And so they liked what he saw with TJ understanding you like the auction that presented for their offense because they are two very different style of runners. And according to Sean McVay, they just decided to kinda keep feeding CJ. And there was really no indication that it was because talker Levy, which was an issue back at the end of the regular season. Lindsay. They're there obviously has been a lot of talk about that. No, call at the end of the game. And earlier on the show we heard from Nickell Robey Coleman who obviously involved in that play. And had something to say about it. Actually, he was shocked that that nothing was called were you able to send me with any of the other players are even a head coach to hear what their opinion was about that. No call. Yeah. Well, obviously, you know that the head coach he said things are showing basically it's a kind of bang bang playing happens quickly, and that's kind of where he left it. He's like I'm not gonna argue about the call when in the favor players Milwaukee room. I asked that same kind of vibe is that you know, they're just going to start in the solar. That's just how it goes. Sometimes sometimes called go your way. Sometimes they don't go your way. I mean on the Rams have been on the receiving end of some unfortunate calls this year. And this time they they got a big break. But how do you say they're not really too eager to discuss it because they know they did get a big break on that one. Let me ask you this. Is you talked about the environment there, and how loud it was down thirteen nothing in the first half and still down at halftime. What did they do? Did you talk to anybody about what they did to change their philosophy in the second half to be able to have more success? The Rams that is against the saints defense that for the most part of the volume up. Yeah. Well, going in the second are going into half time. They were able to gain a lot of momentum. By that touchdown drive. We're actually girly crap job with that six yard run. So I think that just gave him a lot of confidence. Jared goff's pocket they stayed poise. And really it took them a few series to kind of figure. I mean, it was loud when these guys came here in week nine, but this was just on another level. So it took them a couple of series to figure out how to handle the noise how they were going to communicate and operate in the noise, I'm so they really just kinda stuck to their game plan and were able to find a way to be effective with what they came here planning to do Lindsey. How do you think going into the Super Bowl? The Rams are going to utilize their run game. And we we saw what they did last week with the combined running ours with girly and and Anderson over two hundred and thirty guards and then today have only fifty four yards combined. And you know, I know you heard Bobby ask is there concern over girly in his in him being injured. But what do you think they're going to do moving forward? Yeah. Well, it's really interesting to see Jay Anderson. And he told me after the game, you know, obviously last week those guys combined for more than two hundred fifty yards. The bottom line though is today the same had a clear plan to stop the run. And so they relied on Jared Goff to passable. And that's what he did. So that's the thing about this offense. It is. So well rounded that if they stop the run, okay, fine. They can pass the ball. They're stopping Jared Goff. They're slowing him down. They can rely on those running backs. So I don't go into anyone game deciding we're going to run the ball or going to throw the ball. It's you know, let's just operate our offense and see what gives and what what what's working for us. And then once they discover what's working they're going to go with it today. Obviously, they weren't getting that much on the ground. So Jared Goff had to step this up and throw the ball. And that's what happened. So this was a much different game than the first time. They played you look at the storing in the thirties and forties. This is twenty six twenty three including in overtime. They'll keep to lead didn't play in that first game. Did he talk about the impact with the team? You know, talking about the impact that he had on this game being available now. Well, I know that they were all quite excited inside the locker room when they kind of realize the final stats of Michael Thomas Thomas had more than two hundred receiving yards in that first game. And he had nowhere near that this time around to leap definitely made an impact. And the other thing is look at is that Dhamma can sue has played outstanding the last two games now. I mean, it took him to the playoffs to really kind of turn it up, and but he had a coaching game Aaron Donald again. So they were like drew Brees uncomfortable. They were putting pressure on him. They were getting him. And so that kind of force them Aaron throws from drew Brees, which you're not really Cussing to seeing from him. And how effective he's been? He was only seventeen times coming into this game. So it's really just the defense being able to step up, and that that obviously helped the secondary's well today we're talking to ESPN NFL nation. Rams reporter Lindsey theory Lindsey we we heard from Todd Gurley on the show talking to Justin Anderson, and he was. Clearly, emotional you could hear the quivering and his voice as he was talking about heading to the Super Bowl. What was the motion like with some of the other players and their reaction to knowing they were the underdogs defeated the saints on their home field and now are headed to the Super Bowl. I don't think it really sunk in when I was in the locker room. There was a couple of guys like Andrew Whitworth. This is thirteenth season. And he was pretty poised and talking about what this moment means. But other guys just kind of had like these wide is like they knew all season coming in with all the off season trades and acquisitions that they made the Super Bowl is definitely the goal. But it was like why is like, wow, we just we really did this like we said at the beginning of season. We're gonna do it. And we did it. And I just I don't know that it has in for most of the guys on this team. Did you get a chance to talk to potentially Sam shields? Sean McVay when they talked about that fake potted Iran, which really kind of you can say coming out set the tone for how the that game was going to be. Yeah. I didn't get around to talking to Sam shields. But chumming bay obviously going into this game said, you know, we're going to be aggressive, but we're not going to be reckless. And that is the same thing that he has said all season. He did make a joke. Because like, yes. And now you guys are gonna ask me why went for the big punt. But then I didn't go for it at the goal line there when we had four th down, which is obviously a good question. Right. But it doesn't matter because they won. "And all the guests that are joining us today are joining us via the shell Pennzoil performance line. Bobby carpenter here, myself, Rachel Lindsay, and we've already got somebody on the shell Pennzoil performance line. We had ESPN NFL nation Rams reporter Lindsey theory. Joining us on this show Lindsey welcomed the football frenzy. Thanks for having me Lindsey. That was quite a game. I can only imagine what it was like to be there as we were watching it here in studio. I mean, just starting off what was the atmosphere like as the Rams stunned the New Orleans Saints and their fans on their home field. Yeah. Through throughout the game. I made this was the craziest atmosphere I've ever seen. It was so loud. You couldn't even hear yourself think. But then went onto the Rams lined up to kick that field goal reached new heights and the minute that ball through the uprights dead. Silence. Obviously saints fans were stunned. That was followed by ton of business given that play call or that play on third down whenever the no call on the pass interference. So it was just a real wave of emotion here at the end between the booth the cheers, and then just the dead silence with that crazy ending. So let me ask you this because Todd Gurley who's been such a vital part of this Rams offense. Or at least he was for about the first thirteen games since that knee injury today. Only four carries a believe for about ten yards. Do you think that the function of his ineffectiveness was due to that injury? No, I don't I talking to Sean McVay after the game. And they just thought that C J Anderson was working for them on Todd kind of had a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes early that pass it skipped off his arm. That was intercepted. He dropped that pass on third down, and they just weren't able to get going under him. And so they liked what he saw with TJ understanding you like the auction that presented for their. Offense because they are two very different style of runners. And according to Sean McVay, they just decided to kind of keep feeding CJ. And there was really no indication that it was because the talker Levy, which was an issue back at the end of the regular season. Lindsay. They're there obviously has been a lot of talk about that. No, call at the end of the game. And earlier on the show we heard from Nickell Robey Coleman who obviously was involved in that play and had something to say about it. Actually, he was shocked that that nothing was called were you able to send me with any of the other players or even a head coach to hear what their opinion was about that. No call. Yeah. Well, obviously in the head coach he said things are showing patient. It's a kind of a bang bang playing it happens quickly, and that's kind of where he left it. He's like I'm not gonna argue about the call, obviously, one of the Rams favor of players in the locker room. I asked several and at the same kind of vibe is that, you know, they're starting solar. That's just how it goes. Sometimes sometimes called go your way, don't go your way. I mean on the Rams have been on the receiving end of unfortunate calls this year. And this time they they got a big break. But have you say they're not really too eager to discuss it. Because I think they know they did get it big break on that one. Let me ask you this. You talked about the environment there, and how loud it was down thirteen nothing in the first half and still down at halftime. What did they do? I mean, you talk to anybody about what they did to change their philosophy in the second half to be able to have more success. The Rams that is against the saints defense that for the most part of the volume up. Going in the second are going into half time. They were able to gain a lot of momentum. By that touchdown drive. We're actually girly job with that six yard run on. So I think that just give him a lot of confidence. Jared goff's pocket they stayed poise. And really it took them a few series to kind of figure. I mean, it was loud when these guys came here nine, but this was just on another level. So it took them a couple of series to figure out how to handle the noise how they were going to communicate and operate in the noise, I'm so they really just kind of stuck to their game plan and were able to find a way to be effective with what they came here planning to do Lindsey. How do you think going into the Super Bowl? The Rams are going to utilize their run game. And we we saw what they did last week with the combined running with girly and Anderson over two hundred and thirty guards. And then today have only fifty four yards combine. And you know, I know you heard Bobby ask is there concern over girly in his him being injured. But what do you think they're going to do moving forward? Yeah. What's really interesting? I the C J Anderson, and he told me after the game, you know, athlete those guys combined for more than two hundred fifty yards. The bottom line though, is that today the saints had a clear plan to stop the run. And so they relied on Jared Goff passable. And that's what he did. So that's the thing about this offense. It is. So well rounded that if they stop the run, okay, fine. They can pass the ball. They're stopping Jared Goff. They're slowing him down. They can rely on those running backs. So I don't think they go into anyone game deciding we're going to run the ball. We're going to throw the ball. It's you know, let's just operate our offense and see what gives them what what what's working for us. And then once they discover what's working they're going to go with it. 'cause they obviously they weren't getting that much on the ground. So Jared Goff stuff it up and throw the ball. And that's what happened. So this was a much different game than the first time. They played you look at the scoring within the thirties and forties. This is twenty six twenty three including in overtime. You'll keep to leave didn't play in that first game. Did he talked about the impact with the team? You know, talking about the impact that he had on this game being available now. Well, I know that they were all quite excited inside the locker room when they kind of realize the final stats of Michael Thomas Thomas had more than two hundred receiving yards in that first game. And he had nowhere near that this time around. I'm definitely made impact. And the other thing you have to look at is that Dhamma can sue has played outstanding the last two games now. I mean, it took them to the playoffs to really kinda turn it up. And but he had an outstanding game Aaron Donald again. So they were like drew Brees uncomfortable. They were putting pressure on. They were getting to him and that kind of force them. Erin throws from you're not really cuts into seeing from him. But how effective it's been? He was only seventeen times coming into this game. So it's really just the defense being able to step up, and that that obviously helped the secondary's wealth today. We're talking to ESPN NFL nation Rams reporter Lindsey theory Lindsey we heard from Todd Gurley on the show talking to Justin Anderson, and he was. Clearly, emotional you could hear the quivering in his voice as he was talking about heading to the Super Bowl. What was the motion like with some of the other players and their reaction to knowing they were the underdogs defeated the saints on their home field now are headed to the Super Bowl. I don't think it really sunk in when I was in the locker room. There was a couple of guys like Andrew Whitworth. This is thirteenth season. And he was pretty poised and talking about what this moment means. But other guys just kind of had like he's wide is like they knew all season coming in with all the off season trades and acquisitions that they made that the Super Bowl is definitely the goal. But it was like why'd is of what's. Wow, we just we really did this like we started in the season. We're going to do it. And we did it. And I just I don't know that it has set in for most of the guys on this team. Did you get a chance to talk to potentially Sam shields or Sean McVay when they talked about that fake punt that they ran which really kind of you can say coming out set the tone for how aggressive that game was going to be. Yeah. I didn't get around to talking to Sam shields that Sean McVay obviously going into this game said, you know, we're going to be aggressive or we're not going to be reckless. And that is the same thing that he has said all season. He did make a joke. Because like, yes. And now, you guys are gonna ask me why I went for the fake punt. But then I didn't go for it at the goal line there when we had fourth-down which is obviously a good question. Right. But it doesn't matter because they won. But that's just John motto all season on on being aggressive and with his special teams coordinator. I mean, they'd come up with a lot of great stuff to have. Johnny hacker. Do he's a former high school quarterback. So that's nothing out of the ordinary for Johnny to kinda step up and deliver passing like you said that's a huge reception for Sam shields. Lindsey. "As we welcome in Rams reporter Lindsey theory Lindsey girly practice for the first time since week fifteen had look. Hi, susie. Well, going into the week. Todd Gurley told me that he wanted to get at least two good practices under his belt before Saturday. And that's exactly what he was able to do. I was able to watch girly go through on Wednesday and Thursday before practices were close to the media, and he looked like his normal self. But his teammates told me that he certainly did not hold back. Aaron Donald told me that girlie looked fast, strong and fresh and safety. John Johnson told me that girlie certainly opened it up a few times. Now, really said after the first practice that his knee felt good. And we're really just trying to hype up as he tried to finish his runs and get there fast. Now, keep in mind girly is not expected to be on any limited count Saturday. But the Rams do have veteran backup CJ Anderson. Who was a pleasant surprise in the final two games of the regular season. When he rushed for combined two hundred ninety nine yards against the cardinals and forty nine. Owners so expect for Anderson get a few carries. But no doubt Susie is a big boost for the Rams to get girly back in time for the playoffs. Absolutely. All eyes on the Coliseum on Saturday night, so teddy. No the Cowboys d is really strong up the middle. We have a fresh Todd Gurley who had two hundred and fifteen yards from scrimmage against the Cowboys last season third-most negate in his career. How do you see the clash? They've got to get back to fundamentals in stopping the run because don't get caught up in playing the Los Angeles Rams and thinking about sacking Jared Goff and all those receivers it's about stopping Todd Gurley. He's back. He's healthy assume as one hundred percent of what you do is set the edge, just like Khalil Mack. Does right here. The bears at a great job of stopping this outside zone making it reader wick, and then there's the pursuit set edge. Keep don't get a field white here for Dallas last year that gave you referencing. He's right there. Stay white there. Don't come up to feel like he does. He opens up the gap right there. That's the Laney once and then you'll be. Seeing this picture all that hurdle. That's what you don't wanna see set it and keep it once again up at the top they held him to under thirty yards rushing because they set the edge, and then penetration came and then there was tackle in the backfield. That's how you stop Todd Gurley. And if you have any awareness whatsoever. If he's offset in the passing game defensive ends hit him right here. You wanna win this is more. So right there. That's how important he is hit him right there, reroute, stop the momentum. Because this is what they want also out of the backfield receptions the outside zone. It's all about this player sues stop him. You win. You make Jared Goff dropback passer that comes after him. And then you get that win. He can impact the game in so many ways. All right. So if they stop in, and so then you have golf who really wasn't as best against the best defense is down the stretch. The eagles the bears and here comes to Mark Lawrence..

"It's funny. When you when you say, you don't know where something is. So I said, where's paramount? And you we both didn't know. So I gotta tech Sodano says paramount is just north of Long Beach. Then I got a text from my friend. Danny paramount is basically van is Nick this from or you know, what I heard is paramount is a city east of Compton from Accardo paramount is next to Bosco. Damn I knew you were sheltered. John paramount is fifteen miles for Manhattan beach, paramount is ten miles from Long Beach. So apparently, everyone has an opinion exactly where it is. But that's where paramount is by bellflower Downey area is just east of east Compton. So Marcellus probably spent some time over anyway, that's where Kyle Korver shrum and bellflower. Know your city like you tell me parasol paramount the paramount line is open. All right. So coming up for you at the bottom of the hour. We're gonna have Lindsey theory Lindsey theory, the Rams and she was in New Orleans yesterday. And I'm I'm pretty she was by the way, talking to Marcus Peters directly Marcus at a rough day yesterday and was exploited badly targeted the entire day, and frankly has just not been good. So we'll get Lindsay's perspective on that the Lakers. The the Rams do lose came forty five thirty five they were down thirty five seventeen at halftime and came all the way back scored eighteen consecutive points. And in the end about three minutes left. Drew Brees hit Michael Thomas for a seventy one yard touchdown pass at broke the game. Right. And after the game, I was really impressive. Sean McVay was only his second loss on the road. Coach one game last year. In minnesota. And then this listen to McVay after the game and almost Senate like they won. Oh. Oh, we're good. We we love it. You find out about yourself when you have a little bit of adversity. And I know that everybody in that locker room is gonna respond the right way have full confidence. In that. Gary sometimes setbacks can be set up for comebacks. And that's the way that we look at it. I think, you know, the motivation the desire to be able to move forward in a positive way is something that, you know, we challenge everybody in that building and building to be able to do and can't wait to go back to work. Get ready to go for tough Seattle team be back at home. So it's it's it's a setback. But we're gonna respond the right way of full confidence. Now with our coaches in our players, I love that line setups can be setups for coming. I think here's what he means. Max can be set a humming questions. We can when Lindsey comes on in ten minutes. We ask her, but how many questions especially with the past two to three weeks have been about. Do you think you can go undefeated? You're the only fi team in the NFL. You guys are eight. No, nobody else is is undefeated bub-bubba all that's out the window now. Now. Has a matter of fact, I think that if they played the saints tomorrow the saints would be favored they're actually in a good position. Well, I mean, here's. You know, I'm a glass half full kind of kind of guy about half the time and..

"So the Rams have been the most impressive team in the NFL through four weeks. They are the first teams since the two thousand thirteen Broncos to score at least thirty points and each game of their first four games of the season. But this week l. a. has to travel north to Seattle to battle with the Seahawks for more on that matchup we will welcome in our ESPN Rams reporter, Lindsey theory. Lindsey, there's a lot of buzz surrounding Jared golf in the Rams following their four knows start. What is the team doing right now to stay grounded through the buzz. Yeah, Jack, what we all saw Thursday night, Sean, McVay and Jared Goff are chest bumping each other on the sideline. Robber woods scores, a touchdown him and he's giving a rapper, a high five in the end zone. But all of that glitz glamour, they've really left it at the Coliseum. Back here at their training facility. It's back to work Sean. McVay reminded his team that no one remembers who was at four, no, to start last season and guys have really bought into that culture and are embracing it. They took the weekend off. They came back to work Monday, got in an extra practice and even what about twenty minutes past schedule as they prepare for the division rival Seahawks and Dhamma consumed told me they face a unique challenge going against Russell Wilson this weekend after facing four different type quarterbacks against Russell. That's really noth-. Let guy they're gonna have to have great rush lane, stop the run and contain Wilson, and as for the Rams offense coming off that performance rubber woods told me they're going into a very hostile environment. They want to improve. Who've on what they did against the Vikings if that's even possible. And in order to do that, they're really just going to focus on themselves the Rams Jack Lindsay, great stuff. Thank you very much. We.
