Russia issues arrest warrant for Lindsey Graham over Ukraine comments

"Russia has issued an arrest warrant for a U.S. senator. Russia wants to arrest senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina after what he said about the war in Ukraine. Graham met with Ukraine's president zelensky on Friday, zelensky's office later released an edited video in which senator Graham says the Russians are dying and describes U.S. Military assistance to Ukraine as the best money we've ever spent. Senator Graham appears to have made the remarks at different times in the conversation, but the short video by Ukraine's presidential office put them next to each other. It caused outrage in Russia. The Russian interior ministry then issued the arrest warrant. I'm Rita foley

James Lindsay on the Elite Effort to Build an A.I. Technological God

"Joining us now is one of my favorite people on earth, James Lindsey, super smart and he's tough and he works. His tail off, the book is marks vacation of education. You guys got to check it out. The marks vacation education. James, I want to talk to you about that book, but more urgently. I want you to connect the dots because I did this sloppily yesterday. I did my best to try to talk about how the elites, they want artificial intelligence to try to achieve the gnosis, the oneness of mind. Can you build that out? You're the first one to ever say that. It makes perfect sense to me, but it makes sense to our audience. Yeah, let's see what I can do. And it's good to see you. The elites are trying to build just let's just call all the BS. The elites are trying to build God and they're trying to build God in the computer. And so the idea is actually that what they want to do is they want to use AI. We all know about the chat GTP or GPT, whatever the letters are. We all know about this. We know that it's woke. We know that they're trying to install their values into it. For example, somebody just sent me an example today that can you make a joke about women and it's like, oh, it's an AI. I can't language model. I can't possibly make a joke about women that would be inappropriate. We should be inclusive to women. Can you make a joke about men and it was like, yeah, man goes to the bar and blah, blah, blah, blah. And immediately makes fun of man. Doesn't make fun of women. And there are a million examples. But can it tell you what a woman is? That's the other crushed. Well, you know it depends on if you tell it that it has to. I'm giving you a hard time, but no, it's true though. It gives you the whole social constructivist lie that they we have to consider gender roles and blah, blah, blah. And so what they're trying to do is build out these values in the AI, which is not just about chat, you know, programs that are going to kind of replace Wikipedia to answer questions for people to understand the world around them, which will give them misleading answers because it's woke. Thus conditioning their minds to think a particular way. It will also be the way that your algorithm is tailored. So the idea in the long run is the AI is going to become smart enough to worry it knows you better than you. That's the most important idea. And it knows the correct values that you're supposed to have. And it knows your psychological profile. It knows what gets you upset. It knows what makes you happy. It knows what makes you want to go on a spending spree. At Amazon, it knows what kind of products you're going to want to buy. Not yet, but it's getting there.

G-7 talks may measure allies' reaction to US documents leak

"The top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee says the military needs to do a better job of securing confidential information in the wake of sensitive documents being leaked out by a 21 year old air national guardsman. The system failed. Republican senator Lindsey Graham, who's in the Middle East, tells ABC's this week with George Stephanopoulos. He's hearing foreign dignitaries complain about the release of damaging and embarrassing information. I can promise you it's been very damaging. There's information about Mossad supposedly helping the protesters. There's information about the air defense capability of Ukraine and everybody in the regions really worried. He says, why would anyone share secrets with the U.S. if a low level military member can leak it out? This weekend, Secretary of State Antony Blinken tried to downplay the fallout. It's not affected. Our cooperation. I just haven't seen that. He's attending the group of 7 foreign ministers meeting in Japan, the first major diplomatic conference since those sensitive documents were posted online. Sen. Lindsey Graham Is 'Open' to Sending U.S. Forces to Taiwan

"U.S. senator Lindsey Graham with Shannon bream on Fox News just a few days ago. From then actually went. The question for the Congress should we have a defense agreement with the island of Taiwan. We don't. Should we have one? But yes, I'd be very much open to using U.S. forces to defend Taiwan because it's in our national security interest to do so. Now, we got our national security interest to go to go to war with China because that has to be what that means, right? I mean, we've already been told, well, we're not really at war with Russia over Ukraine. But we got to support Ukraine or you're a Putin puppet. So I suppose we're going to have to go to war against China or else you're a G puppet. Well, I mean, how does this work with establishment Republicans? You want me to put a poll up here right now at Mike online dot com from the birch gold group that sponsors our daily poll. That asks the question, do you think the United States should go to war with China and defend Taiwan? Uh, let me look into my crystal ball. That would be about a 100% no. Opening statements began with prosecutor Lindsey Blake telling jurors that Lori vallo de bell used money, sex and power to get what she wanted and wouldn't let anything stand in her way, including her two young children. Blake says one was killed for money, the other because they were in the way of life with her new husband. Jurors were also shown pictures of bodies Blake also brought up claims of unusual doomsday focused religious beliefs involving dark spirits and zombies. The defense told jurors that America you can have different belief systems reminded them that debell is presumed innocent and said the charges show prosecutors don't know what really happened. Darren, I want to talk about Israel. You have a very unique take on that. But first, I just want to get your thoughts on this restrict act that we've been talking about that more Republicans than Democrats are sponsoring. And I just want to remind our audience what Republicans are sponsoring this. John boozman from Arkansas, my crepo from Idaho, Lindsey Graham from South Carolina, Tom tillis from North Carolina chuck grassley from Iowa, Kevin Kramer from North Dakota. Shelley Moore capito from West Virginia, Mitt Romney from Utah. Susan Collins from Maine, Dan Sullivan from Alaska, Jerry Moran from Kansas, Deb Fischer from Nebraska and John thune from South Dakota. Darren, your thoughts on the restrict act. Well, you have a bill that supported by Lindsey Graham, Tom tillis and Mitt Romney. You know you're in for a beauty. The restrict act, what can we say about it? Well, first thing to know is that it's a Trojan horse type Bill. What it's being packaged as is some kind of way to counteract the nefarious foreign communist infused influence of TikTok, which is a natural cell. Everybody can get behind that. But what it actually is, is a Trojan horse. And amounts effectively, I think the best description of it that I've heard is the Patriot Act for the Internet. Even though the marketing is specifically tailored to TikTok, something that we all love to hate, the actual substance of the bill is very vague and it is no way limited to TikTok. It's vaguely constrained to technologies associated with quote unquote foreign adversaries.

"Have the bill. Here, the restrict act. You guys can all check it out as a citizen. S 6 8 6 for the 118th Congress restrict act. The first sentence to authorize the secretary of commerce to review and prohibit certain transactions between persons in the United States and foreign adversaries for other purposes. Now, mind you, they could pass a very clear and simple piece of legislation targeted that TikTok, but you're trying to tell me the regime is going to pass up this opportunity to create a new Patriot Act. Of course not. This is not about TikTok. This is not about TikTok. This is about being able to usher in a brand new censorship regime. So who's behind this, exactly? Lindsey Graham has his name on the bill. As a co sponsor, John thune, Republican from South Dakota. Fisher from Nebraska, Joe Manchin waste the time. Jerry Moran from Kansas. Sullivan from Alaska, Susan Collins from Maine, of course Mitt Romney, Shelley Moore capito, from West Virginia, introduced the bill. Have they actually read the bill? Are they or is this just rep by, is this composed and basically put together by lobbyists? And if you know how legislation works, you know that K street lawyers, the DHS, lawfare types, working for the alliance of U.S. tech and deep state interests, probably wrote this restrict act. This is a written written by Google and written by Facebook and written by congressional staffers.

Republicans Battle Over Their Stance on Ukraine

"As you probably know, a couple of the Republican presidential candidates responded to an inquiry from Tucker Carlson's show, where are you on Ukraine? And Ron DeSantis gave what I thought was a pretty reasonable answer. I'm going to read the entire answer to you because I want you to digest it a little bit. I don't want you to see the headlines or hear the SNP snippets. I mean, and the left and the mainstream media and even establishment Republicans are sort of lashing out. Nikki Haley is challenging Ron DeSantis's belief that indefinitely supporting Ukraine is not in our best interests. She's pushing back against Donald Trump's America first position. Nikki Haley, I think, is all in with Ukraine. Establishment Republicans are all in with Ukraine. They believe that Ukraine helping Ukraine thwart the ongoing assault by Russia is in our national security interests. You got a real interesting showdown between the neocons and the populists. You got to really interesting divide here. Actually is describes it as the GOP's stunning new divide. And somehow the neocons and the establishment Republicans believe that it's earth shattering and disastrous for Ron DeSantis to believe that protecting Ukraine isn't in the vital interest of the U.S., certainly Lindsey Graham has lashed out and the usual suspects who like us intervening in foreign countries affairs are chomping at the bit.

"Listen to the attorney general yesterday being grilled by senator Lindsey Graham. Fentanyl, deaths are more than gun and accident deaths combined in the United States. Did you know that? Yes, sir. I mean, this is, how would you describe the fentanyl problem in America? A horrible epidemic. But it's an epidemic that's been unleashed on purpose by the Sinaloa. And the new generation of jalisco cartels. Let's just stop and absorb that for a moment. The so horrible epidemic, it kills more people than car wrecks in gun violence combined, and the question is, what are we going to do about it? Under current law, fentanyl loses its schedule one status by the end of the year. You oppose that I assume. I certainly do. Fentanyl all fentanyl related drugs should be scheduled. It mandatory minimums for people dealing in fentanyl. I think we already have mandatory minimums for people. Do you think they should be increased? I think we have more than enough ability now to attack this problem. Well, would you agree with me whatever we have is not working? Well, we're doing is not working. I agree with that because of the number of deaths that you pointed out. So just keep an open mind that what we got on the books is not working.

What's Your Endgame With Regards to Russia?

"I mean, I listened this morning to a very convoluted exercise. How could you change your mind about Russia or Ukraine? And this is real simple to me. What do the hawks want to do about Russia? Let's make that real simple. We've got two foreign countries. Russia and Ukraine that are in a mess. Russia is deciding to unilaterally bomb the heck out of Ukraine. Destroying innocent lives ruthlessly and brutally attacking a country like Ukraine. The president of Ukraine turns to the United States and says, help us fight back. Help us defend ourselves. Help us help us help us. And we have, I think, pretty much officially sanctioned being on board completely. Where they were all in. What do you need? You need tanks? You need subs? What do you need? You need money? Biden said we're going to pay for Ukrainians pensions this week. We're going to pay a lot of bills. We're going to help you rebuild Ukraine. Well, there's not going to be any rebuilding because it's still in the process of being torn apart, being destroyed. So I got a simple question. I could do an exercise on my show too. To those who say to the Lindsey grahams and the Mitch mcconnells and the Joe Biden's and the Democrats and the establishment Republicans who want to be all in with Ukraine, what's your endgame with regards to Russia?

"Way to start is the floor is yours. Tell us your opinion. Your stance on what's happening in Ukraine and how we should think about it. Right, so I don't want to disappoint you, but I'm not of the Lindsey Graham, you know, let's start World War three variety of people when it comes to Ukraine. But for those who are not familiar with my background, I served as former strategist in The White House to president Trump. I am a legal immigrant to the United States, but my parents lived under a communist dictatorship. My father was actually betrayed by Kim philby, one of the west's greatest double agents arrested and tortured at the age of 20 and given a life sentence in a communist political prison. He was liberated by freedom loving revolutionaries in 1956 and escaped to the west. So that's my perspective. That's what I bring to the table. But irrespective of that. Let me be clear. Russia has not been provoked into a war, a Russia hasn't been surrounded by NATO and has deployed to save ethnic Russians and destroy bioweapons labs. Russia has been doing what it has always done, whether it was under the tsars, whether it was the Soviet Union or under a neophyte czar, and that is, of course, Vladimir Putin. This is the aggrandizing territorially of the Russian Federation from a man who, by the way, is a former KGB colonel, and I remember the good old days as a child of the Cold War, when all conservatives hated all KGB colonels, the idea that he is some champion for the west standing up against globalists is utterly asinine. This is a man who persecuted Christians. This is a man who is creating his own globalism, but under the Fiat of the Kremlin. And let's be clear here. Russia is doing what it always does. Violence against civilians to create large amounts of Russian territory. And for the record

"The American ruling class ever say, hold on, maybe this is not a good idea. And no, because if you know anything about how the American ruling class operates is that they operate with hyper aggression, never apologizing or admitting a failure ever. And it's always your fault. Always your fault. It's the middle Americans fall. It's your fault that your jobs got shopped shipped overseas to China. It's your fault that you didn't take the vaccine. It's your, it's always the American people's fault. And so I took a step back and I don't trust the people in charge, nor should you after the last couple of years. And I certainly don't trust the very same American foreign policy establishment that was unable to have success in Libya in Syria in Iraq in Afghanistan in every theater they engage in themselves. And in fact, I think they're getting us closer to a state of permanent conflict with, again, let me repeat this. Putin is not a good person. I don't think highly of him. I think that he should be condemned for his actions. But sometimes in geopolitics, you have to be willing to have temporary partnerships against the greater evil. And the greater evil is not a little bit it's by far the CCP's conquest of the western world and the modern world. Let's play cut 47 and then I want you to react to play cut 47. I am for Trump, not because of the flaws of anybody else. I'm for Donald Trump because I know what I'm going to get. We need somebody that on day one can get this country back on track that can secure our border and bring order out of chaos. Somebody the Russians and the Chinese fear. Somebody that can take the fight to the terrorist. They Abraham accords the result of Donald Trump in pressing the Arabs and Israelis. I don't know, because Lindsay has built his career online to people and probably lying to himself. But I think the bottom line is exactly what you said at the outset that it's not a good sign that Lindsey Graham is in such close proximity to Trump. And the idea that Trump needs Lindsey Graham's support in order to win South Carolina that argument just seems to not make sense at all. And if that's true, that actually means that Trump has bigger problems than people, I guess, are aware of, right? If Lindsey Graham is critical to your success, that's not a good sign for your campaign. So really, there's no rational reason for the right to make excuses for Lindsey Graham's proximity to Trump. And I think that Graham is among the most pernicious in the GOP precisely for the reasons that I outlined the other night on Tucker Carlson, but I can actually go a little bit more in depth here because I have more time. Rep. Jim Jordan Shares His Top Priorities

"The top of the agenda for you here in the House judiciary committee? I mean, you're off to a fast start. What are the top priorities for both oversight, but also making sure that we hold the Biden administration accountable? Well, the first priority is the border with why we had our first hearing immediately after that hearing that you just referenced there where we organized. We held a hearing on the border situation. And I think there are three fundamental questions. How did it happen? Why does it matter? How do we fix it? How it happened, we all know that. This is intentional, what the Biden administration has done because on day one, Joe Biden said, we are going to stop building the wall. We're not going to we're going to get rid of remain in Mexico to people seeking asylum. And we're not going to deport anyone. And then you get this flux influx of people, this unbelievable number, never seen in the history of our country, record numbers, month after month after month, 5 million 2 years. So that's how it happened. Why it matters is what we really tried to get across in our hearing on Wednesday where we had a father who lost a son to fentanyl. We had a deputy sheriff, excuse me, a county sheriff who talked about in his 38 years in law enforcement. Two years ago, he said was the best, the border situation has ever been. Today, it's the worst. I mean, it literally what he said. And he said, it's the worst because all the people coming across, but the crime, the cost of communities, the cost of schools, the cost of local hospitals, the cost of the entire country. The cost to our system, and then the focus on processing these individuals, what to Biden administration is doing. And then you can't catch the fentanyl and everything else in the smuggling and all the bad things that are happening coming across in outside the ports of entry. So that was why it matters and then of course what we're going to do in the committee is fix it by passing legislation that will immigration enforcement legislation that will change the policy back to the policy, frankly, we had under president Trump. That's what we're going to do. Joe Biden may not sign those bills, but our job is to pass them and show the country what actually works. So that'll be a huge focus. And then, of course, as you mentioned, the oversight because we do believe that our government now has been turned against the people and in many ways is targeting the very people it's supposed to represent and that we have a double standard of justice in the country.

Did the Woman Accused of Killing Her Kids Have Postpartum Depression?

"There is an interesting case in Massachusetts of a woman who has been arrested and accused of killing her at three children. And when Debbie and I were discussing the case, the whole issue of postpartum syndrome came up. Depression. Postpartum. Well, I guess there's postpartum. There's anxiety. Yeah, it's postpartum depression or postpartum psychosis. Right. And those aren't all exactly the same, but you know something about this. So let's talk about what do you think happened here? Let's give a couple of details. The woman's name is Lindsey clancy. She's just 32. She's some ducks very Massachusetts. So the question becomes, what on earth would make a mom? A mom will obviously wanted these children. And three of them to do the bizarre act, which would seem to run totally against nature of killing her own children. Why would somebody do that? Well, as it turns out, there is a potential or a possible medical explanation. Right. So postpartum depression is actually quite common. It's not, it's not super uncommon. I had it with my firstborn with Justin, who is going to be 28 soon, so a long time ago. But, you know, it's one of these things that you have a baby and you think you're just going to be like beaming with happiness because you just had a child. But what happens is your hormones become like just completely just jumbled haywire, right? And then you become, well, I, at least in my situation, I became very, very sad, crying just about everything and anything. I also became very possessive of Justin and I didn't want people to hold him. I was extremely agitated by just even light. I had to have all the shades drawn. And so I was diagnosed actually with postpartum depression,

"Champion Lindsey vonn had her first go at the Olympics in 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah. I dreamed about it since I was a kid. And my entire family was there watching, and it was a home Olympics. It's pretty rare to have a home Olympics in your career, let alone have it be your first Olympics at 17. She writes about growing up on the slopes in Minnesota and training in Colorado in her new memoir rise. After her Olympics debut, she told me that she felt kind of deflated because of what came next. You dream of being an Olympian, you make it to your first Olympics and you think this is the greatest thing ever. And it was very anticlimactic. I felt, you know, like I still hadn't proven myself to the team and, you know, I was sent right back to lower level races as soon as the Olympics were over, which I was very disappointed about. And I just didn't feel like I had the support within the team at that time. And that really drove me and motivated me to fight back and to kind of make my place and make my way on the team. So let me get this straight. So you're doing well in the Olympics, but then you get sent down to lower level races. Now a coach Lindsey might say, well, you know, she needed that. She needed that motivation. She needed that to be done to her to keep her hunger going. Well, I mean, I had the best women's result of the entire Olympics. So, I mean, to be demoted from that point was, I mean, it's kind of crazy, but and I will say that a lot of other athletes have had similar experiences, but that type of demotion ended their careers. You know, they never made it back. And whether that was because they never had the success or they were mentally beaten down, you know, I think that I've seen that happen many, many times.

"It. And I'd get a bunch of fried eggs or scrambled eggs just to them getting back protein and coffee and some either a bagel or a croissant. I'm very much liking that your breakfast involves going to two separate restaurants. That sounds like my kind of breakfast. Breakfast one, check, little travel, breakfast two. Check. And then we'd have snacks up on the hill just because it just helps keep your sugars elevated enough and you don't get into this lethargic state and it also just helps keep you're just awareness up if you're having that just like little, hit a sugar, whether it's just like a Snickers bar or a gel pack, it's just something to help you hyper focus because you don't want to be shutting down when you're trying to execute and go down a course. You only need to be focusing for a couple minutes, but you want all of those minutes really, really focused. And then afterwards, you know, after you work out, it's probably the most important to within 30 minutes to an hour getting some protein in your system, whether it is a protein shake or sitting down and having a meal, but then also then sleep is probably the most important with sleeps the other food. It helps everything reboot, recharge, but I'm definitely not as strict as certain other sports. Other sports take, for instance, bobsled, especially the women's bobsled, they have to weigh the sled, then they have to weigh the two individuals and all of those together can't go over certain weight. So together, those girls are trying to balance that, which I go insane. Yeah, me too. It'll be like a three pounds down ten pounds. I get that seems like a nightmare to me. So I'm very happy that my sport hasn't had that involved. Yeah, yours has two restaurants for breakfast. I mean, I definitely love you, bobsled. Love you. I'm team snowboarding. In your life, what person place or experience? Has most altered it. I would say my brother is a big influence in how I became an athlete. My brother Ben is 5 years older than me. We grew up in Connecticut and a little town roxbury. We're basically in the middle of nowhere. So if we're wanting to be playing outside our mom and dad couldn't exactly always drive us to a friend's house or vice versa. So we had to learn how to interact and tolerate each other as brother and sister and especially having a 5 year younger sister. I'm sure my brother had to put up with a lot of yeah to have the patience. But, you know, he was always pushing me to be fearless and to be aggressive and fast. I remember he was the one that taught me to ride my bike without the training wheels. When my dad was at work and my mom's inside cooking, preparing food and he just set me off on the driveway and he's like, if you start going too fast, you can veer off onto the grass and tip over and you'll be fine, but I do remember that moment of him taking him out of. I'm not even sure my parents knew that we were taking off the training roles or if we were even allowed to do that, but he pushed me to do that and he was assistant code for my tee ball and little league games. So he's always hitting ground balls and fly balls to help practice and then that also translated into my snowboarding career. He was the first person in our family to try snowboarding and naturally when I saw how much fun my brother was having. I was like, well, I have to do this. My brother is doing this. I have to do this. And you know, he taught me how to turn and link my turns and I was constantly always trying to chase him and catch him going down the hill because he was always the fastest on skis on snowboards. So he definitely instilled that you can always go faster. You ride with the guys, they're gonna make you the best and you push your own levels. Oh my God, here is the catalyst for all of that. That's amazing. God, that's amazing. That's so extraordinary when you think, particularly a 5 year difference. So when he was 7 he was 12 right when it would be super annoying to have a little 7 year old running around off to you right when you're just starting to need to be cool and then 13 and 8 year old. It's really amazing. It really feels like it's what makes me believe in some sort of karmic agreement that exists that kind of predates our lives because you really can trace the catalyst of everything that you've gone on to do. Like to say he was the trailblazer. Yes, I can think of so many moments. We have the snow in the backyard and he's designing the sledding track. And we're not just going to go casual sledding, no we're shaping, and icing with water and letting it set overnight. So then it's that much faster. Oh my God. He always brought it to the extreme, but that just seemed normal to me. I'm like, yeah, okay, like I'll help Paul buckets of water will sprinkle it on. We'll let it set. We'll hit this tomorrow and our mom's just like, these were helmets. Oh my God. Was he there in Beijing? When you got the gold medal? No. Well, family really wasn't able to travel. You were allowed, of course, of course, because of COVID, of course. But my cousin, who's younger, who has a very similar dynamic with her older brother. So we share those younger sibling vibes and energy and we're very similar. She actually works for NBC Connecticut and so she was there on a media path. So she actually was at my event. I didn't know she was actually going to be there because she was down in Beijing and we were up in the village, but she applied to go up there to report, but they didn't tell her until the morning of. So I didn't know and then when I came down and I finished and I looked and she was there. I was like, oh my gosh, is that what someone in my family did get to experience that firsthand with me? How lovely that you did her family there. But my God, your brother must have just been, beside himself. And they have the opportunity for NBC to be putting cameras in our family's home to be watching them or have like a watch party and my parents I know get so stressed watching me, the handle it very differently. My mom will be sitting on the phone with her sister giving her the play by play of my race, but she can't watch the race. And then my dad will be in a different room, actually watching the race who's on the phone with my brother, who's in Boston, who's watching the race, but they have a slight delay in time. They're like, what's happening? They're like, I can't tell you. Oh my gosh. It was really, really cool. And then that have now a young niece and a nephew. My brother's kids. It's just so fun to be able to bring that world and that reality to them. And she's watching the replay of me race that next day. And there's the moment I turn and look to the camera and just wave to everyone, and she looks at my brother, she's like, wait, can she see us? It was the cutest thing ever. Oh my gosh. You're amazing. I mean, thank you. You're the most decorated female snowboarder cross. I mean, it's ridiculous. It's amazing. It's funny because I'm sitting here, you're charming me, but I'm wiggling, just looking at you, then I'm like, I'm so excited. It's such a privilege. It's so amazing. I'm so thrilled about your life. I don't even know you. It's so cool. It's so great. You enjoy every second of it so bloody deserved you've worked so hard. Oh, thank you so much. And I do hope we get to go for a surf. I love it. "In your life, can you tell me about something that has grown out of a personal disaster? Well, my obvious one is from 2006 when I fell and I came up short and had to wait 16 years to finally get my gold. But then I'd also say, I believe it was in 1998. My family shared a house in Stratton with two other families, and it was our little weekend getaway that my dad's tube buddies from high school and now their kids and we would all go up there and kind of just cram into this house. Stratton is where it's on a mountain. Yeah, Stratton mountain Vermont. In Vermont, gotcha. Yes, it was right at the bottom of the access road and it was just this great time that all of us could come together and be with everyone's friends and then all of their kids, but that house burnt down. It was a chimney fire. Nobody was at the house at the time, which was really, really good, but it was a house that was built in the 60s and the structure of the house was actually built into the chimney, which is obviously not to code nowadays, but it was actually what created the problem because it technically wasn't a chimney fire, but since there was exposed beams that kind of came up into the chimney area that it was still hot enough from having a fire there the night before kind of just caught and we lost all of our very first memories of skiing into snowboarding that we couldn't replace. Wow. Stratton mountain did have a great backlog of all the photos that we've ever purchased from them and they gave them all to us because it's such a small community. They all felt horrible that that happened so Stratton gave us all the photos we've ever taken that they had on file. The local shops helped re outfit my brother and myself and at that time we were waiting for the insurance money to come in. So my dad's like, you look, we can't afford to buy our skis and our snowboards. You have to pick one. And I chose snowboarding. And in that moment, that next weekend, we're picking up all of our equipment that mountain riders gave us and I won this little Friday night border cross race that was at the base of Stratton that they build every Friday. And it got me noticed by a coach in Chicago that Stratton mountain school. And he was like, wow, you're really good. You should come race with us. This weekend, we're doing a GS race at the neighboring mountain Bromley and I had won that race as well for my age group and he's like, you're pretty good at this. You should consider going to Stratton mountain school, which is an academy for skier snowboarders and Nordic skiers to help them balance their academics and athletics while letting them pursue and see how far they could take their athletics. So it was a weird string of events that lined me up to being found by a coach to go to Stratton on school and 2003 when I graduated high school, that's when border cross was put into the Olympics. So it's just crazy because it's always timing. And it's just with everything in life, how things come together and it's just not a blueprint that you could just follow. And that's where you're going to end up. That's what you're going to have as a result. This was just such a crazy circumstance that was so hard on all three families that were involved. It was just very sad to lose so much. And something great came out of it. You couldn't see it right then and there. But if you trace it back to that moment, what if I pick skiing? This is kind of crazy to look at it that way. Wow. That is an amazing story. I think that is absolutely brilliant, and that is really the philosophy that I would stand by most, which is purely observational, which is that shit not working out is stuff working out. It's just not on our timeline often and it's not how we thought it was going to look. Right. But what an amazing story and how great something so profound grew. And you still had to fight for it. It's not like it was given. But the nascent point that's amazing. This summer I want to go to Melbourne's camp accomplish. I'd have to say, I love Mexican food and I went a very, very, very long time living in Europe and not being able to have the traditional connection food or a California derivative of Mexican style food, just there's this great place not too far from me, Sancho's tacos. And I have almost eaten there every meal since I've been home because I've just backlogged all the times I've missed it. It's so so delicious. Well, if you're ever in London, I can tell you I found the place. It's called taqueria and having becoming obsessed and obviously eating a lot of Mexican food because I'm a California native now living here for 26 years. That place proper stone ground handmade tortillas. Like amazing, amazing food. When you're in London, there's not a lot of snow in London now, but you never know. You might be on your way through from somewhere. Yes, that or I need to just make some side trips that don't involve snow that I'm not dragging 200 pounds of snowboards, equipments and just stuff just a quick little tiny little wheelie bag look how fast I can buzz through the airport, which is my little carry on. So I'm just here for tacos, then I'm out. I'm just here for the talk guys. Is it really specific? Like your diet when you're training and racing. Is it really stringent so that you don't get to eat things that you necessarily love? Or do you get to eat pretty much whatever you want? Because you're burning so much. My sport isn't necessarily as strict as others, maybe a Nordic skier or Nordic jumper. They have to be super picky and be weighing their stuff because they want to be as light as possible. My sport actually does help to have extra weight and going into Beijing in the last month or so. I definitely was trying to just consume as many calories as possible. Oh my God, how fun. Is that for now when I'm trying to lean out, but it was so cold in Beijing. So you want to make sure you have enough energy to in storage that you can be burning to help keep you warm, but also that you're not depleting your muscles of the needed nutrients so then your body starts feeding off of your muscles and breaking your muscles down to keep all systems running. What kind of thing would you wake up in the morning freezing cold? Would you eat lunch for breakfast? What did that look like? Well, in Beijing specifically, I would go to the USA house that was right there and I'd have some noodles just to get some great carb base and then I'd go over to the dining hall with my little cholula packets. He broke with you. I love.

Being a snowboarder and for the last 20 plus years, I have seen our seasons become shorter and certain years, we still have really, really great snow, but then we just have several seasons back to back that we're not seeing the snow line, sas phase, a place we always go in Switzerland for early season training in October and I remember a lot of the times the glacier being able to come so much further down at the same time of year every year it has gone up and up and up and if you're looking at it from a year to year basis, you might not notice it, but since I started going there when I was 17, it is a drastic difference. So trying to see what I can do personally to reduce my carbon footprint being in the world we're in right now, but I remember I remember when I was in high school and on the National Geographic cover, they had the car that was hydrogen fueled. And that was very, very long time ago. And we still haven't really seen that come out yet where it's hydrogen and the byproduct is water and I know that the science is there and I just want to see that science become more readily available to the masses. I couldn't agree with you more. I mean, clearly, the electric car was available a lot sooner. Yes. But still, the price point is still very high on some of those vehicles. The price point, but also like the lobbyists, like in the United States, how do you ever get around special interest groups? It's like they don't live in the same world. We live in as if their children and grandchildren and children are somehow going to be immune to the money that they think they have to make now the power that they have to maintain, particularly in oil and gas, as if their children are not going to suffer as a result. It's really strange this disconnect. The thing is we know it's not irreversible. It's just enough people deciding. And enough people going, well, I mean, it's tricky turning infrastructure around, but what's trickier that creating a new infrastructure and changing the way that you live your life, or they're not being life at all. It's a hard balance. And it's definitely been an uphill battle for sure. And you just tried to think within your day to today life. How can you reduce your energy consumption and your waste and you try to do the best you can? Yeah, I think that's exactly it. You got to hope that the corporations that are really the ones that are pumping the fossil fuels. We can do what we can do. We can eat less meat. We can take care of our footprint, maybe travel less. It's really hard though. God, it must be extraordinary literally to have seen a glacier recede, like you have watched that over the last 20 years to see that happen. It must be shocking. And you see so many pictures earlier.

Now arriving on metro. I've been a metro station manager for 20 years. People need to know we are ready for them. That means keeping everyone safe. And we're working hard to get all our trains back on the track. My name is Jeff doubt. I'm doing my part to keep the D.C. area moving. I didn't have a chance to meet you the other night, and I saw you walk into the event. And I was like, oh my gosh, I don't know many people here, but I'll go over and introduce myself. Oh, I wish you had. And I got stuck in a conversation. I saw you got second in conversation, and then as soon as I finished, I looked over, I was like, she's gone. Turn it. Dang it. We're talking about post Academy Awards parties. Did you have a great time? I did. It's definitely not my world, so I definitely just had to be super outgoing and I like the challenge. I mean, I don't know who is of that world because the whole thing is just ersatz humanity. Like we're all pretending. I sure wish we'd seen each other to say hello because it really is. It's like, that is just what that party is. It's running into interesting people and having an excuse to have a conversation. That's how I look at it. I go out to people, I would never go up to. And I'm always in workout clothes, and snowboard clothes. Nice to get dressed up. Yeah. Hello, I'm Minnie Driver. Welcome to the many questions season two. I've always loved priests questionnaire. It was originally a 19th century parlor game where players would ask each other 35 questions aimed at revealing the other players true nature. It's just a scientific method, really. In asking different people the same set of questions, you can make observations about which truths appear to be universal. I love this discipline, and it made me wonder, what if these questions were just the jumping off point? What greater depths would be revealed if I asked these questions as conversation starters with thought leaders and trailblazers across all these different disciplines. So I adapted Proust questionnaire and I wrote my own 7 questions that I personally think are pertinent to a person's story. They are. When and where were you happiest? What is the quality you like least about yourself? What relationship real or fictionalized defines love for you? What question would you most like answered? What person place or experience has shaped you the most? What would be your last meal? And can you tell me something in your life that's grown out of a personal disaster? And I've gathered a group of really remarkable people, ones that I am honored and humbled to have had the chance to engage with. You may not hear their answers to all 7 of these questions. We've whittled it down to which questions felt closest to their experience or the most surprising or created the most fertile ground to connect. My guest today on mini questions is the extraordinary Olympian Lindsey.

"Least for another few years. The fledgling graham made a name for himself prosecuting. The impeachment of president clinton and after eight hot and heavy years in the house. He was finally ready to settle down for a long term. Commitment with the us and no wedding would be complete. Without the best man. Graham and senator john mccain were the best of friends. United by their shared love of fiscal conservatism. Straight talk and a desire to bomb the middle east. Back to the stone-age. I believe those who are calling for draw have the obligation to tell us what we do. In the region. When it descends the chaos is my friend. Lindsey graham just said well i think senator mccain nailed it. They went searching for wmd's but they found their bff with iraq solved permanently. Graham in his political spouse were finally ready to co ascend to the most powerful office in the land but when they were foiled by an even more radical hussein. Graham became despondent. He knew that he would treat power so much better than that. Cat obama so he made his. I'm lindsey graham. And i'm running for president of the united states. Yes lindsey graham was single and ready to mingle with voters. He turned the white house into his bachelor pad. Firstly numbers this president. "Of powerful men young lindsay also saw firsthand the ugly reality of segregation in the south in that his parents bar participated in it. When i was a kid. African americans would come in and buy the beer to go. And i remember asking my parents while was it. They said that's just the way it is. That was another lesson. When you see injustice anywhere at any time you can just say whatever and move along then in his teenage years like most voices age linzie developed strange new urges in uncontrollable lust political power. Classmates remember him saying. I want to be governor and also let me out of this locker. After becoming the first in his family to graduate college graham joined the armed forces where he would serve six and a half years in the air force as a lawyer in a lot of ways. Graham charted a path similar to american icon. Tom cruise bartender lawyer. Member of the air force but as a lawyer and all with the grace and style of a southern vampire and of course. He secretly very short during his time. In the air force graham fell into a love affair with a lufthansa flight attendant named sylvia but sadly it was not to be. That was probably the best time in my life but You know at the end of the day. Everybody's got a story. A lot of people had it worse than i have. But check it out. Lindsey graham dot com. "Another problem you know. We had virtually no inflation under two percent inflation coming into this year. And we're going to be going into next year with say six percent inflation. So that means that seventy thousand dollar family is now forty two hundred dollars worse-off in spending power and you'd better health them out or they're gonna take it out on you at the polls next november i see the incentives are lining up right institutional self interest. So you you've actually you've outlined a pretty pretty clear for investors and just regular folks trying to earn a living unpleasant picture here and made it you know and turn it into a sexy novel. We have to remind folks called currency wars. So we're we're we're getting to the end of our time. And i ask all my guests the same final question and man. I can't wait to hear your answer but my my standard final question you know. I'm usually interviewing asset managers or some other types of folks you know. Generally we're talking about investing but you're different you're an economist. You're talking about much bigger bigger trends that affect absolutely everyone whether you are in an active investor or not So i'm very curious to know how you respond to my simple question. Which is if you could leave our listener with a single thought today if you could plan a single thought in their mind to leave them with what would it be. Larry lindsey. the next decade is going to be a scramble for survival. You need to think about it that way. And you need to prepare in order to have a prosperous future. The way to start is to go out and buy currency war. That's the way to start. Yes but lindsay's well currency were and and you'll be fine for the next ten years but wow to to your final idea a scramble for survival. You don't mince words do you. what will you know. we're gonna probably still be around sure. But this inflation is inflation always causes a fraying of the social fabric and to be blunt. We already have a pretty frayed social fabric. Let's be honest. And so i am. I don't think it's only a matter of money. I think it's also a matter of what's going to be happening in society going forward and that's why i think it really is a scramble and there's something you can control some things you can't but money hopes you control as much as possible and that's why you need to protect your financial position..

"So Yes the The swamp the ruling class. Whatever you wanna call it is not going to go down easy In terms of fighting for their own self-interest interest right and and historically gross in that institution is is the only rational expectation. They certainly have all the advantages. That's for sure. And the you know. The founding fathers were given are not giving enough credit They realized exactly what you're talking about. And what they decided was. So how can we set it up so that at least it's as tough as possible for the to do that. And that's what you know. Federalism is all about. That's what the constitution is all about. That's what the bill of rights is all about. that's what having an accepted. Executive legislature and judicial branches are all about so that way the various players have to fight among themselves if that hopefully will exhaust them so they can't fight us instead. I don't have a cynical bone in my body by the way. Yeah me neither. Okay so i. I wanna talk more directly though about the currency war. I wonder i you know. I know you don't want to give away the book because it's a fiction book but we you know we can talk about the real stuff right. I wonder if you could make it something for our listener that they could get some handles on like to track. What what what are they looking for over the next ten years from twenty twenty twenty two twenty thirty maybe We'll see inflation and that'll be a big part of this. What does an investor you know. Just a regular person not an economist. What do we look for. What are the hallmarks where we say. Oh that larry lindsey. He warned me about this. Well go you can just check this. Wordings consumer price index release or consumer price index for the last few months. You know it's interesting since we had a change in governments We've had inflation accelerating constantly We now have had inflation of almost four percents in the first seven months this year. So we're going to be ending the year with more than six percents inflation. That's what history tells us unless they suddenly cracked down on it which they're not going to so investors you know should plan on this being the fed strategy the government strategy and there are things that investors can do to get around it. So so here's.

"Today's guest is lawrence lindsay. Lawrence lindsay is the president and chief executive officer of the linzie group. An economic advisory firm based in washington dc and he's held leading positions in government academia and business. God bless you larry for doing all three few have lindsey served as george w bush's chief economic adviser during the then candidates two thousand presidential campaign. He later held. Top positions in the bush administration including assistant to the president for policy development and director of the national economic council from nineteen ninety seven until two thousand one. Lindsey was managing director of economic strategies a global consulting firm from nineteen ninety one to nineteen ninety seven. He was a governor of the us system. And you better believe we're going to talk about that. What he's the author of numerous articles and five nonfiction books. The growth experiment economic puppet masters. What a president should know but most learned too late. The growth experiment revisited and conspiracies of the ruling class. And we're gonna talk about his new fiction book currency wars today. Larry lindsey welcome to the show sir. It's a pleasure to be here. You've been busy man over the years. Yeah well my father would look at that resume and say you can't hold a job that's what it looks a so i have to dive in because i'm too curious. My curiosity is has gotten me here. A governor of the federal reserve system for what eight years i was i was there for five and a half five and a half. I'm sorry eight was the other the other stint so five and a half years as a governor of the federal reserve system. Boy the stories you must have to tell. Yes but my can't tell you'd have to kill me right. Okay right right. is it something that you just. Don't like to comment on. Because it's kind of bad for you to do so or no. I talk about monetary policy all the time but but you know things that are confidential. Remain confidential oh sure. Sure that that doesn't inhibit me. I'm pretty outspoken fellow. Yes that's right hence your presence on the show. So i'm just curious if you have kind of curious dick's rules of thumb or or key insights that you learned from five and a half years sort of inside the belly beast. Sure well you know that and my other experiences taught me that what really drives public policy is institutional self interest not necessarily individuals and the fed Acts to preserve itself and expand its power and You know delivering good. Outcomes is part of that process And sometimes it has subtypes. It hasn't but i think it matters less who the chair is And war institution thinks it should do so and what the institution things. So that's that tells me there's consensus involved in all these decision. We're not just getting the jerome powell version in other words. Where he's he's He's taking a lot more opinions and then processing them. The fomc is more like a board of directors it's not a legislature and so most votes tend to be unanimous as they aren't board of directors. But that doesn't mean The people sitting around the table or potted plants. Okay not potted plants. Hopefully not potted. Plants is not the best thing that we can say about the federal open market committee. I'm not sure where. I was headed with this fed thing..

"I'm because of that time. We joined pleaded. Mac and we join fleetwood mac which is ironically stevie in me as a couple and john and christine mcvie as a couple and they are in the process of of getting a divorce at the beginning of. When you're very soon yes. I mean they were in deep trouble already so once this was something that christine and stevie had in common that maybe they they were both looking for some independence and so it didn't take too long after leaving the band. I mean after joining the band to To have things come to a head with stevie and you know. I mean it. It did sort of happen incrementally because I think the the way. The album unfolded and the success and the visibility of stevie as a kind of a Affront woman happen incrementally to And the more she was able to sort of see herself in that role and get feedback from either people in the business or just the audiences in general the more it fed that sense of independence as well so by the time we got. You know it wasn't like we just said one day we're we're not right. It was troubled for maybe six months or or more after the first record or during our road. Yeah we had broken up for ever. By the time we started talking about making rumors and the debt but it and she was dating mick right. That was later though. That was probably during tusk. So like that. 'cause i i just can't imagine because i'm a volatile insecure ego stickle person we all. Yeah i guess it would have seemed that it would have made a you know everything crazy in the band well i. It was a pretty unusual social dynamic. We had you know. I mean you're talking about two couples breaking up right when when the world is being laid at their feet so to speak right and having to navigate that emotionally and logistically. And everything else. I mean i had to compartmentalize your feelings. You had to kind of always always be pulling back in and looking at the bigger patient get fed the music. Oh the no question. I mean there's especially rumors. I mean you know. When i said that earlier i was saying that you know to some degree at there was a point where the success of rumors became about the success but the success of rumors was always about something other than the music. It was about this musical soap opera. That people could sort of be four years. You know into and songs or through the tabloids. I mean what was happening. Both tabloids were far less invasive than they are now back in the stories were out there. The stories were out there. I think just because music press. Yes yeah and and i think you know the subject matter of the songs made it clear that we were writing about what we were living. Never going back again. Yeah was that an illusion. Wow go your own way. Yeah and stevie to. I guess you make loving. I guess it was all kind of it really was like you know couples because really you know three of the people who were the for the four people who were the couple. The two couples were were the three writers and we were cross dialoguing to each other all the time through music and that became a huge wecker. Yeah and i think that people really bought into the truthfulness and again maybe the sordidness of it if you want to look at it that way certainly the tabloid aspect of it was it sorted. I mean like when did the drugstore getting out of control during that record. Well i think there was a lot of use during rumors for sure I don't you know even at its worst except maybe for tango in the night. I don't i don't remember it ever affecting our ability to to be you know to take the creative high road or to articulate the creative ira off And i put that down to just the resilience of youth. I guess yeah. And you know if i was the guy who was in there basically producing the records and being the musical leader. I'm not saying i didn't partake. But but comparative to other members of the band and and how much they Would use certain things or how much they would drink. I was very much the least of those sure. so yeah. I think so. Much of what we were able to do was was just so strongly ingrained in us and it was also the synergy this chemistry which the the synergy that we created was greater than the some of the parts you know and tusk was what do you think you know when you look at tusk is record. Wh what what does it represent to you. I mean do you are you. Would you reproduce it are you. Would i would yes. I task is actually in many ways. The record i'm the most proud of Because it thwarted. Everyone's expectations I think in post rumors environment we were in this situation where we possibly were poised to go down. One road or another one particular road would have been to do to make choices that were sort of representative of what the external world expected us to be And that's where you start to see a lot of artists lose touch with who they are. Repeat it repeat rumors to and at some point. You're you're sort of painting yourself into a corner. You know as an artist price you start to lose your sense of being able to take risks or being able to be engaged in things that are outside your comfort zone just because you know you're doing what what people want you to do. And the formula from a corporate point of view is if something works run it into the ground and then move on right you know. We've all depleted husks. yes. I of nostalgia abandoned so when it came time to make tusk you know a lot of new music. New wave stuff had started to come in from england especially and the states but It was i. I was struggling with what it all this on that level. And so what the outlier. The justice success. The success of of you know obviously the success. It enables you to make any kind of choice you want. Yeah which is the irony of it but it also potentially starts to paint you into a corner and and i was very Intent on on taking a different road Because you know if if you are an artist or if you aspire to be an artist and to continue to do that in the long term you've got to keep making choices that have risk and that that are about what is interesting and vital to you in that moment and so you know. I said to yourself. Well no you're not you're not thinking the business model in order to maintain You're you're not a not a business decision and again. I wouldn't have had the freedom to make that decision or perhaps even the perspective to see that it was a decision could be made without that business success commercial success right but you know In a way tusk you know obviously in the same way. My solo albums are more esoteric in sort of more off to the left generally speaking yes And and because of that you know maybe i lose nine hundred ten people who might listen to a fleetwood mac album. Yeah it's a choice you make. It's like saying i. I wanna be jim jarmusch or somebody. I'm not gonna do this. Because i i wanna be steven spielberg and have the biggest. The most moneymaking movie ever made. I want to do this for my art. And for what i believe in. Are you satisfied in that. Yes i am and so tusk was really the line in the sand that got drawn which allowed me and has allowed me to continue to make that choice over and over again and to somehow have it coexist with fleetwood mac. He got to the point where i was fleetwood. Mac was the big machine and solo. Work was the small machine and they were conflicting point Sometimes but generally not you know because we kept touring you know. I mean wh when were you doing. Both i don't know there's never. There was never enough time for me to sort of a string together. A series of albums. Back to back into..

"I was doing a series of decisions in my health and wellness that led me to this point of having breast cancer. That's an opportunity. Amy healthcare challenge that any of us face is an opportunity. I when i was in pharmacy school. I torment. Icl and i sat down with connie growled. Who is a pharmacist and also shimon a healer and so she adds in schimanek healing practices into her knowledge base as a pharmacist. And she asked me. Why did you need this injury. And that has stayed with me for years and years. Because i do think that we are designed. We are made to live healthy beautiful productive lives and when we take an opportunity to say okay i am going to figure out how can treat myself better how i can love myself more. So than i have the motivation to eat well and to avoid alcohol and exercise and really practice stress management on a very deep level. I do not believe that being sick is anyone's fault at all. But i do think that there's a chance to say what may be. Was i doing that. I probably knew wasn't the best thing for me. And how do. I become better on the other side of this challenge. I mean i don't know about you. Listeners what kept you going through twenty twenty for one of the things that kept me going to things really kept me going. One is toll a statement. That stress is nothing more than the present moment wanting to wanting the present moment to be something other than it is stresses nothing more than wanting the present moment. Be something other than what it is so if we can just sit in the moment be like this is what the present moment is that a way that we can tone down that fight or flight response. The other thing that's really kept me going is the understanding and awareness that disk comfort. Is the price that we pay to live. Better lives to grow as human beings to become more adversity and discomfort are unfortunately the price that comes with living our best life and so i firmly believe even though we have all been in the state of collective challenge for a very very long time. We will come out better for it on the other side. I think just like the rest of us a just wish. The other side would get here sooner rather than later. It's like okay. i'm ready. I'm right in those are those are profound words amazing actually. We've talked about that a lot on this podcast The fact that you you basically create your own you create your own moral or your life in your head right. I mean a lot of this is in your head. You're you know you're anxieties your paranoia hs your fears your stress. It's all in your head and if you can convince your head.
