"It's Lincoln square. What is the address by the way, forty five eighteen north Lincoln forty five and you had the rest of that story. Forty five eighteen north Lincoln. Yes. Yes. Right on the website. WWW dot bistro, compound dot com. So B I S T R O C A M E. So it's champion without the h you don't know how many people call and we're like. This is bistro. Champagne, right. Oh, I hate having. You know, I actually was sent it to my producer the rundown. I think with it's spelled that way. And the other thing that we get all the time is why don't you have that many champagnes on your menu? When you're bistro. I've got five really good sparkling wines and three or champagnes but out sorry. You wanted to tell us a little bit more of property in the and the changing of hands in the story. Yeah. So Michael walked in with Martha. He's a let's do this. And it was the most immediate quick trend restaurant businesses complicated. This wasn't and it was like, you know, an immediate success. Michael brought that that farm-to-table concept over to the French bistro, which was something also kind of knew in in Chicago. And they'd before I got there that was two thousand eight two thousand and two Michael and Steve got a divorce. Michael got the bistro. Steve got company Ola. And there you have it. So that's why we're yeah. Michael is was a genius in on so many levels except financially. But Steve was the financial genius. So I came on board a couple of years later. I can I can work the numbers and stuff like that. And I had a very very surreal experience interviewing with him. We were at the late Julius minal. And he's like just come in and meet with me. And I spent three hours of him just of just chatting and talking I brought like a resume, and I had this like leather bound wind book of like my resume, and it never got to the point of actually opening that up. It was just as a conversation. Become like, we walked away best friends, and it was it was just one of those scenarios like my wife is texting me. Like did you get the job? I'm like, I don't know. This is a really I'm three hours into this interview. And. So. Took over and fell in love immediately with the place, and I guess about two and a half years in. On a Friday night. I got a tragic phone call from his son that he had passed away. Sorry. Yeah. It was really rough. It was a very complicated path going forward because there wasn't here and have a will. There wasn't a clear path into how the restaurant was gonna work. So. I go in on Saturday and mind, you I've been there at this point for three years, but everyone had been there since the beginning or had worked at Coppin Yola. Like, they were you know, Michael was the mentor was the hero was the the mascot was everything else. You know, just just a lovable, man. And I brought everybody out and I have sadly had to tell everyone that he passed away. Meanwhile, we had one hundred and fifty seven people on the books that night, and we had a restaurant thrilled with and I asked everybody it's an odd circumstance because what do you do what you do in that situation? I think a lot of people would walk away from that. Right. And I asked everybody I said, I'm putting this on you were collective here. What are you all want to do? And there were some tears for a couple of minutes. And there was a collective let's get to it. Let's go to work, and you know. Now, six and a half seven years later, and we do this in honor of our our good friend and mentor, Michael Altenburg. Well, I encourage everyone to enjoy the incredible. Destination that is bistro capacity, and we're we're actually incredibly lucky to bring Adam grant because I could tell you as knowing Michael he is somebody that that Michael would have respected appreciated, and is definitely follows in a very similar path and mentality. Well, I look forward to other wonderful interviews with you. And we will we welcome you back anytime, you thank you so much. Thank you so much when we come back. We're going to go to the news and just a moment and our conversation will continue we'll do a little more freak out is Friday. We actually can do the freak out Friday right now.
