Cocktails for Mom, or Anyone Who Could Use a Drink

"What are the characteristics of a good mother's day cocktail simplicity. Definitely you know. You don't want to overwhelm yourself with preparation or having fines. Specific ingredients and honestly. Simplicity is the way to go with the cocktails in general and marketing. But you basically need a balance. So you're going to need. You know obviously alcoholic element or i mean even. If you're doing a macho it's still kind filing the same logic where you're gonna need to balance a base which in alcohol drinks alcohol and then you're going to need citrus generally and maybe a sweet element to balance that out for most tales. I mean you know. There's obviously a lot of different directions. You can go but you know if you can balance your spirit or alcohol in drink with a sweetening agent and something citrus. Maybe you little sharper kinda rounded out. That is the ideal drink. And so whether it's lime juice lemon juice grapefruit wine gin. There's a balance that needs to be had for something to taste good so that's really what i'm after. As far as drinks go in general but for the perfect mothers day cocktail regarding that balance. I would say something that looks pretty to the celebration of your mom just like getting bouquet of flowers. You know you drink with your eyes. I sued one visually. I would say color contrast fresh ingredients. You know it's fruit or herbs and if you've got some nice glassware that's a bonus to you know it's a complete package.

"Heather mcghee welcome to the podcast. So glad to be with you so your your book is called the some of us. What racism costs. Everyone and how we can prosper together. i'm going to admit right now. I'm not done with the book but a deep in the book and it is terrific in helping folks understand. Basically as the question starts why we can't have nice things and the key lime and see if i can find it here and all my in all my notes Comes in when you talk about Swimming pools which people have read reviews of your book or even your your op-ed in the new york times. The swimming pool is a metaphor for so much in this country. But there's a key line in in that chapter. That has stuck with me. As i've been reading the book and as i read about things in the papers today and you right warren and montgomery these are two towns in alabama warned in montgomery were just to of countless towns in every region of america. Not just the south where the fight over public. Pools revealed that for white americans. The word public did not mean of the people. It meant of the white people talk about phil flesh that out for us so this is really the question john. Has you know. I spent twenty years in public policy as a wonk trying to move economic policy solutions to insecurity and inequality trying to convince lawmakers to do the right thing in an economy where one percent of the population owns more wealth. Republican Rep. Chip Roy uses hearing on anti-Asian discrimination to 'glorify lynching' and criticize China

"A pre scheduled hearing today, focusing on hate crimes across our country, But of course, in light of the shootings in Atlanta. Those attacks against Asian Americans became front and center during the hearing, Republican Congressman Schiff Roy of Texas, arguing that all Americans deserve protection, and during his remarks, he invoked a Texas saying that critics claim celebrates the idea of lynching. Here's what he said. Going on. Appreciate are gathering here today. It's obviously a new important subject matter. Um, and to be clear all Americans deserve protection and to live in a free and secure society with the fundamental nature of what we expect out of government, right. Secure the blessings of liberty, as we say in the Constitution, United States, um The victims of race based violence, and their families deserve justice. And that's the case what we're talking about here with the tragedy what we just saw her and Atlanta, Georgia. I would also suggest that the victims of cartels moving illegal aliens deserve justice, the American citizens in South Texas. They're getting absolutely decimated by what's happening. Our southern border deserve justice. The victims of Riding a looting in the streets last week. Businesses closed Burn lime started last summer. Deserve justice Way believe in justice, right? There's an old saying in Texas about, you know, find the all the roof in Texas and get a taller tree. You know, we take justice very seriously, and we ought to do that round up the bad guys. That's what we believe. Um, my concern about this hearing is that it seems to want to venture into the policing of rhetoric in a free society free speech, um and away from the rule of law and taking out bad guys. And as a former federal prosecutor, I'm kind of predisposing wired to want to go take out bad guys. And that's bad guys of all colors as bad guys of all persuasions. That's bad guys targeting people for all different reasons, and I think we need t be mindful of that. And so now we're talking about whether talking about China Chai calms the Chinese Communist Party. Whatever phrasing we want to use and it some people are saying, Hey, we think those guys they're the bad guys, for whatever reason. Let me just say clearly, I do. I think the Chinese Communist Party running the country China. I think they're the bad guys, and I think that they're harming people. And I think they are engaging in modern day slavery. And I think that what they're doing the wingers and I think that what they're doing targeting our country and I think that what they're doing to undermine our national security and what they're doing to steal our intellectual property and what they're doing to build up their military and rattle throughout. Specific. I think it's patently evil deserving of condemnation, and I think that what they did to hide the reality of this virus is equally deserving of condemnation, and there's hardly any getting around that that in fact happened. The comments of Congressman Chip Roy of Texas that today's House Judiciary Committee hearing Democrats on that committee quick to criticize the Republican lawmaker, representative Grace Manning of New York, who was of Taiwanese descent, calling out her calling for his words and his support of former President Donald Trump in the last year. The former president has repeatedly described coronavirus as quote the Chinese virus or kung flew. Critics claim it has helped foster an environment in which there are hate crimes against Asian Americans.

What is a Standard?

What is a Standard?

"Is a standard. You may have heard that term wondered what the heck is that. Do i buy a plant standard. Is that rosa standard. Is that hydrologist standard. What does this mean. This was on my mind recently ellen because somebody sent me a picture of their vegetable garden and at all four corners of their vegetable garden. They grow a cannabis plant as a standard. I have never seen that. Send you the picture. Because is first of all gorgeous. Second of all huge trunk things but we do. They live someplace where it's warm enough. That they don't have the cannabis doesn't have to come in in the window. No annual they do it as an annual you know they get stat big. Sorry i shouldn't have said that that distracted us so that all right. That's all right. So let's let's talk about what a standard is a standard basically is growing something so that it looks like a small tree. That's how i would define you prune up the limbs at the bottom of the plant as the plant grows and it may look like a lollipop. I've seen land tana's stole sold as standards and they look like know flowery lollipops on top of a trunk. You could find a rosemary. Standard as an herb. For growing indoors. It'd be much smaller. But again it still has that bare trunk at the bottom and it might be round at the top or it could be pruned into a square or diamond shape. It's actually it's a simple kind of topiary if you think about it yes it is and it's making a plant look like a small tree as you say with that bare trunk and then the top has the foliage and flowers. If it's a blooming plant many people grow tropical hibiscus as a standard in a pot on deck during the summertime and other tropical plants as well are commonly raised by at the grower as a standard and sold for container plants. Yeah and you see roses as standards. I think more often the smaller flowered roses not the giant ones and when i was growing up in new england. Lots of people grew hydrangea as standards but out in their yards not in containers and they would call them. Hydrangea trees which of course now. I want to say it's not a tree no matter how you grow it but but that was a really popular thing in new england when i was growing up. I don't know if it's still is. Oh it definitely still is now in the old days. They made those standard hydrangea by pruning ruining the lower limbs and leading one trunk Grow up now they grow the trunks. They graft whatever variety of the hype train peninsula onto the top of the trunk and so often. Now they are grafted. And you can find straight hydrangea peninsulas. As a tree form that's basically how they're referred to now at the garden center is a tree form and you can find lime lights. You can find firelight standards. Any number of varieties of the hydrangea peninsula can be purchased in that three four if people are wondering what a standard is now you

Chaka his lobster robson frank. Leboeuf join us for more frank. Start with you very impressive from chelsea. Would you not very impressive. But the most important thing is to go through When you play against so-called lower team or smaller team boss well default how the way they had to the field. Remind me The the way we used to play the ethica many years ago or to kind of two decades ago it was a wasn't pleasant game to watch but for chelsea the main thing is to go through indeed. Because of graham. One neil off you go home and you think about the quarterfinal. That's the only thing we can say. Jaakko what was worse chelsea through the first hour of the match. Employer-Subsidized Scooter Rides? Yes...If Commutes Ever Return to Normal

"From wondering. I'm david brown. And this is business. Wars daily on this wednesday february third commuting. If you were among the forty two percent of americans working from home as of last june that word may be a distant memory for you. But with vaccine for the corona virus being rolled out many in the corporate world or that by the middle of this year folks will be safely back in the workplace and that means getting back in the car back on the bus and back on the train or on a scooter. That's right micro mobility devices. those lightweight. Electric transporters like escooters. We're having a moment right before. The pandemic sent most workers home and when offices shut down companies like lime which rents both scooters and bicycles. Do commuters suffered the new york. Times reported that consumer spending on scooter reynolds fell the most of all modes of transportation in the first several weeks of the pandemic spending decreased. Nearly one hundred per cent. The losses forced lime to lay off around percent of its workforce at the end of april competitor. Bird was cutting it. Staff to those cuts were hard pills to swallow for an industry that had been booming. In twenty eighteen. Nearly forty million journeys were made on scooters in the us in twenty nineteen that number more than doubled until the pandemic of course brought that growth to a halt. But for the scooter industry. All hope was not lost lime. Ceo wayne ting told the verge that the pandemic change the way people get around in cities. Even though they stopped commuting on scooters there's evidence writers did use scooters for other reasons a quick trip to a grocery store or to the park. If you're running errands do you wanna get on a crowded bus. "Do you think if someone was going to go to the effort of putting lime on the lawn they they might as well instead just just feed it. Well, that's kind of where I stand, I'm I'm big on fertilizer now. I don't mean a whole lot and I don't mean excessive at all even to the extent that I'd well. My loan is now cared for by others. I I cut them back on the number of applications that fertilizer they wanted to used they want to hurt my lawn, but I knew from past experience and soil testing on this lawn, many years ago that the excesses I felt they were excesses cut them back from 5 recommended to 3 and my phone is nothing special but it looks pretty darn good right now because it has been cared for with two applications already this year. It's I motala infrequently the last month. The grass is probably standing for four and a half inches tall doesn't look very groomed. But it's just as green as green can be because it's shading itself. It has nutrients and so on so long. I have to go with your question that Mark I'm more for fertilization and balanced fertilization timing-wise as well as the material itself rather than have to worry about Lyme. However, I'm certainly not opposed to it because many many many thousands of Acres of Farmland in this area are definitely given a shot of lime so often so based on tests you go from there.

"To Paula poundstone. Is it time for our last segment Jerry, say. I know I'm ready to I'm ready to go. San Women of history. It's it's really it's a history lesson and a segment in which we're going to take a moment to spotlight a woman of history who is tragic and all the best ways you know. Maybe it's her love life her her mental health issues. You know women have we should be talking about that. Maybe get a bad rap and esther and I want to like show them the love and intern. Decide whether or not we think there or caroline. Look, let's do it. You know and I said this last week, but it's like. Should our podcast be lifting up empowering like wonderful strong women of course should be, but are we choosing to discuss women who are pretty much not looked at in the best slate and shining that bad light on them yet again. Yeah, that is the route we have chosen to take. I would argue like all presses good press. I think these women. Yes, yeah, so it's really would love with love more than anything. We lead with love. Okay so this week. Sad Women in history is who other than Camilla Parker Bowles. You've heard of her. You know of her as I guess the Duchess of Cornwall She's married to. What's his name? Prince Charles Charles Prince of Wales? They're married they have this weird history. Caroline WanNA. Do do you? Want, I'll bid. Let's just jump in if I forgetting anything sure so it seems as if Camilla, Parker Bowles the do chess. As Esther pointed out. and Prince Charles had a relationship in the early to mid Seventies I. WanNa say this is pre Diana. Young they dated, they were into. Each Other seems like Camilla. Parker Bowles had a lovely childhood and was running around in the right circles I can't be bothered to learn more. Basically at one point, Charles went to the army. Things happen. Life got in the way, and they both went their separate ways. They broke up Camilla. Basically said that she was landing. A rich husband was at the top of her agenda, and so it wasn't the right timing to marry prince trials, so she moved on married. Andrew Bowls I. Go, yes, yes. and. They had a strong connection but I'm even seeing here that Camilla was technically a commoner, so there was also this element where maybe she was considered unworthy in the eyes of the firm. Okay, so he wasn't on the table. Okay, so then they move on, so she gets married to Andrew Balls. He's got money. She's happy. And then Prince Charles this. Okay? This I didn't know and this is like fucking me up so hardcore th Prince Charles Meets Lady Diana Spencer who he knows Princess Di when she's sixteen years old. And how does he meet her? You ask? He's dating her older sister. This fucking creep. Dating some woman and it's like Ooh I want younger sister, and then dates her and ends up marrying her, which is just makes me so sick to my stomach, and I'm like the world is creepy, and it always has been. We're so fucked anyways. They get married, but like you said they had like a prince. Charles and Camilla. Had this like intense connection in? Even they're both married. They carry on this friendship and this friendship leads to basically straight up on a fair there. These married people having an affair. They get caught I. Don't know exactly how But sure looks like they're. Affair started up around nineteen, eighty six. They were both married Charles wasn't happy with Diana. I don't know why. Seriously what was with her I can't. Go, but it has such a good testament to like once you get a guy under your spell like you can really keep them there so I do give her Camilla like some props fat, even though she's enemy, poor princess di was so humiliated when evidence of the affair became public, and then of course there's this famous phone call that was leaked between Prince Charles and Camilla. where I mean God. Bless them, you know. To clearly had had to go on for each other, because among other things Prince Charles Famously said that he wishes he could turn into her Knickers Aka her underwear or just become her tampon because it would make things so much easier yet like he. In her vagina. Now that right there is the goal. If you don't have a preference telling you wishes he was your Tampon. You don't have shit okay. That is. That is the goal that is, that's like. It's just where you need a man to be I truly believe even though I don't love this love story. The public always dumped on Camilla and Queen Elizabeth didn't like her and you know. Is this whole Goddamn mess? But of course we know how the story ends. They, they got married in two thousand five. Now. This leaves us with the question. Is Camilla Parker Bowles Esther or caroline I? I I WANNA figure out. Do I even like her or not, 'cause originally. I didn't like her going into this. She's the other woman in the story of Princess Diana. She's like I. Hate to talk about anyone's appearance at all, but she's kind of known for being not that attractive. She just doesn't have a lot going for her. Then when I hear that, she's almost like the original. Meghan markle like she she like sought out a rich powerful husband she got him. She had him under her spell. I just there's something about that I. Aspire to, and I look up to in terms of issues of Carolina Astir. I'm to say caroline because she had her eyes on the prize, and she's stuck it out, and she never she, she really became like committed to be married to Prince Charles and even though she took sidestep. Stayed strong and made him WanNa be her Tampon. He. Had this is this is a bit tough. This one on time really don't feel like either, of us, connect to her because she's this aristocratic. British woman and I can't understand that life. Whatsoever I mean British people. How I have never had anything in common with any British people in my life. I mean that as a blanket statement, but I don't know. I've heard that she's. Funny Fun woman I am going to call her and esther though and. Walk By. It's because of the Tampon thing. Esther I don't know what you do in your private life, and nor do I wanNA. Know, but we all know that your filthy girl. And you know I. I imagine that you in Dave. talked quite openly about secretions. Methods of stopping those secretions. Devices all of the above I just imagine there's an open this there and I. In that to me, that's a book. Camilla's all about. She's talking with her lover. About turning into a Tampon, it's funny. It's Monchy. It's filthy. It's got us to run of it well. I would say that your partner is. Very Corky and It always makes really funny, weird videos and. Now I think this is just an argument of WHO's partner wishes that they could be there. Tampon I swear. It's your I. Actually will give that to my boyfriend. I'M GONNA. Go ahead and take up I. What do you put it like that? I am Camilla. I. Yeah that. He would and I think he would be okay with admitting that, so he put it on the partner. In that way, I am a Camilla. I'll take it happy to be Camilla Hey, you know. We can't be presumed is. Someone had. Shaken up, so she could go with Dody, which unfortunately didn't. Zim. Fortunate but Yeah I. You know it's okay. We can't all be Princess Diana. I'll be Camilla. That's okay. Pay strong-armed view into taking Kabila. Oh, my I'm happy. I'm happy to take Camilla, and by the way happy birthday to Camilla. She her birthday's on July seventeenth, so she's coming right up on a birthday. Happy Birthday! Thank you for all you've done for tampons and for having men under a spell. You guys I feel like that has been this week's episode going up I. I love our new segments. Carolina I love how much I'm learning from you. You know that is truly like the root of our friendship is just asking you a million questions and learning how to be human from you so i. do appreciate that, and if glow, me's have any. This are a bit anal and OCD about like the assortment having different sizes, and you have different lives, and all the leads match, but it's like who gives a shit. Get over it, and if you're hate the label on a jar, just put a big bowl in your sink in soak the jar in water with the label covered for twenty four hours. Be Label will slip right off. Really Soak it in water twenty four hours. Okay, 'cause That's been a struggle for me, wow! But anyway. I should to the humble pickled the repurpose pickle jar. Will I could actually go through so much peanut butter that if I start saving those actually will have uniform jobs so I'm. You're one step ahead of everyone. I'm on my way to being Naomi okay. Then she starts showing US her vitamins in. She's she's taking supplements that I've never heard of I wrote them down and tried looking the same. Looking them up I couldn't figure anything out, so she had eh. Did you look that up or find anything about that? No, it sounds like very illegal lance. Armstrong vibes while I looked at have been basically the best. I could find that. It's like some kind of like immunity mix that fee features ECHINACEA, but I also couldn't get a clear read on it. The other thing she's just like casually said was Papaya seeds that she puts under her tongue. That that's yeah, she's just not choose not being clear enough. The papaya seeds are really nutritious. And they're they're pretty good like if you're making a smoothie with Papaya I've always heard. You're supposed to throw the seeds in the blender. I don't know how we're making smoothies with Papaya. I know that we eat Papaya a lot. When I met my parents house and we've never had the seats the Oh you have to look into this. The seeds are super nutritious. And they're slimy in an interesting kind of tasty boba anyway. Oh, but aren't they hard? The slimy and crunchy it's it's a whole the whole mix. It's a whole caroline to slang crunchy hall. Thing anything that makes you as a person. Human cell is also something that I looked up. which is some kind of like proprietary antiviral pill that I also don't understand yeah, and then Pine Bark, which there's a claim in her video that it helps with arthritis, not just to claim. She plays a clip from Fox News Ages. She plays a legitimate clipper. Fox News show. How Pine Bark is. And Look I'm sure it is you take it. But it's. Dubious and unverified at best yeah. There's liquid vitamin C. which you mentioned before. Rich girl seem to love liquid vitamin C. over regular vitamin C Yeah I. Don't know what they know that we don't. But maybe one day we'll find out a suspensive that she takes a vitamin D. Fifty. Thousand fifty thousand once a week. Yeah, I had that written down. I was like did I have a Typo? It's fifty thousand. What that's a lot. Yeah I when I was low on my vitamin D. Like sometimes you can get your doctor to prescribe you something like that high that you take once a week just to blast your levels up. Which is Kinda cool I? Actually recently asked me down for four, and she denied me. She's like you can just take over the counter, but vitamin D is so important right now. It seems like a lot of people are talking about it, so I'm trying to get my, but yeah, that's the perfect lazy girl Hack as you just fifty K. vitamin DS and like once a week and then. Eat like Shit. There are other days to get a script for that. You have to go to your doctor. Will the one she had looked over the counter, but you can get a prescription for something like that. She also had chewable vitamin E.. Vitamin B twelve to of all. Somebody called me LANC. Yeah, something called black seed I think. She took three types of probiotics. Can you overdose on probiotics? I've yet to get an answer on this. Imagine her clean. Her Vagina is affiliate. Feel like that's me so I didn't need to take the probiotics to know that. He took Oregano oil and then. was I tripping or did she take lavender oil? Okay, okay, well, the first thing about this which is crazy as she said, she carries two vials of Oregano oil with her everywhere she goes. That is. That has to be a Li- like I don't WanNa accused of famous supermodel lying right now on our show, but at the same time I can't not look who is doing that and then the lavender oil. She said that when she gets anxiety, she takes a pill of lavender oil and it makes her feel calm. Could that really weren't ever ever heard anything either and I let you know us like we are always looking up league natural anxiety. Remedies I've never seen that. Oh. It sounds like revolting. I'll never forget one time coffee, bean and tea leaf. When I was in high school. Have a special edition lavender Frappuccino. And Ingesting lavender is just not my bag. It's so disgusting. Anyway it's strange I. Okay. I have a very. I! This was a video for me. That I had to watch it. Like I couldn't get away without watching it because it was so like it's a it's one of the most healthiest like prettiest perfect supermodels. She's sharing her routine. There's no way I can't physically click on it, but I have to say at the end of the day. This was not worth by six plus minutes of watching because no I did not learn. Anything at freezing I tried to look up. I couldn't find concrete answers on like this just was not the sin, really add value to my life, and it wasn't worth watching. That said there was no way I couldn't watch it, but it was not worth it yeah, it's one of those videos where we can tell you until we're blue in the face. Don't watch it, but we know and I think you know if you're listening that. You'RE GONNA. Go Watch it. That's a good point and I mean look if you're interested in dipping your toe into the Naomi Youtube world. Cup Esther maybe May. I recommend to the listeners as well. There's a video where she goes to whole foods in our own groceries, 'cause. She says she doesn't trust delivery. She needs to feel her fruit physically which I love Utah so that's a fun companion piece to this, but I have to agree with. Esther This video was a whole lot of nothing for me, and it left me with more questions than answers now even the we're both thing we don't recommend it. I also have a companion video to recommend defers which we Campbell's airport routine and she she did this before global pandemic, and so that that's Kinda what for me, gave her so much credibility because she was wiping down her plane, see she was wearing a mask. She was like she was just so ahead of the curve as to how to not get sick while flying and I feel like for that reason, she does have so much like credibility in this space, but at the. fucking cheese to give us some damn details anyway. "Did you think before the recreation that it would show that that that this was arson. Were you surprised? Oh you bet I was scheduled to give a deposition the day after this test and after seeing these results I was just shocked and I said to the prosecutors. I don't think I can say that. This was in fact an arson fire anymore Frank Ashton cancelled the deposition instead. He met with the rest of the prosecution team to discuss. What to do? He later said it was one of those cases where it starts out as a strong case and then you find out pieces of evidence. You thought existed aren't there and we determined that this is not a case that we could take to trial because even our own experts couldn't testify that this was an arson beyond a reasonable doubt which is our burden of proof and we decided that it was not appropriate to take a man under these circumstances and put him on trial in a murder case. Which if he had been convicted. Would certainly it resulted in him? Receiving the death penalty and so we dismissed the case against him. John Teeny later said. This was my piff any. I almost sent a man to die based on theories that were a load of crap today. The Lime Street fire is seen as one of the most important experiments in the development of arson investigation. Here's Frank Ashton. It changed the books on fire science because that that piece of evidence that is the suggestion that it had to be an accelerate used. If you had these particular burn patterns that had probably been used in multiple other cases was not right and that multiple other people charged with arson may very well have ended up in jail or may have ended up receiving the death penalty In cases where the fire science that was put forth to the jury as true wasn't true after the state dropped the charges against Gerald Lewis the chemist at the State Fire Marshall's laboratory Victor Higgs who'd incorrectly reported there was accelerate on Gerald Lewis. Close was formerly investigated on allegations of incompetence one of his colleagues. A fellow chemist told the Associated Press. My biggest fear is that someone is in jail because of his arrhenius results. Victor Higgs had analyzed evidence in about ten thousand arson investigations across the State of Florida as for Gerald Lewis. He left Jacksonville and moved to Shreveport Louisiana three-year-old Jeremiah. Lewis was placed in the custody and reached out to both Jeremiah and Gerald Lewis but never heard back in two thousand ten Jeremiah. Lewis told the local Jacksonville newspaper. Folio weekly that. He didn't know much about the fire when he was growing up. He said his aunts and grandmother didn't WanNa talk.

"Was that a a big step to take to try to burn down a a wholly separate house to recreate. Some of these things are or. Is that done often? Well it's a huge step in a to my knowledge it's never been done before in a criminal investigation anywhere in the United States. Obviously it was very unusual to have a second house that happened to be right next door that was unoccupied and further was condemned by the city and was going to be destroyed so we had an unusual circumstance as far as that goes. Did anyone any higher up above you when you said this is what this is the plan. We'RE GONNA burn down. Did anyone say known? That's too much nobody higher than me. I indicated that in fact Before a we decided this is what we were going to do. I went with my co counsel to the State Attorney and the his chief assistant and said this is a very big case. There are a lot of people who died If this defendant is convicted he will almost certainly get the death penalty. And I think it's important for us to know that we're right and that this prosecution is the correct prosecution in order to do that. I think the best way to do it in our experts agree is to actually outfit the house next door in the same way. This House that burned down was outfitted and do some tests burns. We will instrument the House next door to monitor the heat and carbon monoxide levels because either of those When they get high can kill people and will determine how long it took for this fire to go will determine whether what the defendant said has any credibility whatsoever because at least the local fire. Investigators don't believe him. We're going to bring in the top experts in the country to do this. A team got to work going to extraordinary lengths to replicate the Lewis House. For example there are bits of carpeting from the living room that We were able to get and test so that we could match the carpeting and put the same type of carpeting in the living room. We spoke with family members and they provided US photographs of the of the family in the House. So you could see the furnishings that they had you could see where they had things placed and one of the things we were able to determine was that they had rented some of the furniture from a local furniture rental store we sent investigators to that store to the exact couch. And some of the other Furniture that these folks had rented. The couch was no longer in stock and was no longer being made but we found an individual who had purchased the same couch from the furniture rental store. We went to that person's house and literally purchase the couch from him so that we could use it in our tests fire. They rebuilt walls. They repaired windows. They bought a coffee table and a television. There've been boxes of clothes in the hallway of the Lewis House. They recruited that too so that what we had was essentially identical to the burnt house. The house was wired with special sensors that could measure heat and carbon monoxide but also withstand the fire. It took nearly five weeks to prepare the house and the cost of the experiment was close to twenty thousand dollars. John Lentini says they cut a hole at floor level in the hallway and covered with glass so they could see what was happening. They set up video cameras and prepared to test whether the fire could have spread quickly. All on its own. Here's John Lentini. I you have to prove that a crime was committed. And that's not the case with just about any kind of crime there is You know if a bank is robbed or somebody gets shot and killed. There's never a question about whether a crime has occurred but with fire. You can't you have to do a good bit of investigation in order to determine that you actually have a crime. He says that we used to think a lot of things about arson. That just weren't true and that the field has struggled. At times to outgrow its old way of interpreting evidence away which mainly relied on anecdotal NHS pass down over the years by police and firefighters and the problem with with many fire investigators as they have no scientific training and it's been pretty much recognized that the scientific method is the only way to investigate a fire if you want results to have any validity the plan for five twenty five. Lime Street was too light to fires to test the two different versions of events Gerald Lewis version first and then the prosecutions. Here's Frank Ashton the defense theory. Was that the couch in the living room was on fire that Mr Lewis had seen that couch on fire when he looked through the window from his car which was parked in the driveway. And at the fire spread from there so We simply set that couch on fire. Now it's important to note that these couches won't catch on fire through a drop cigarette or something of that sort it. It takes an actual open flame but the people in the house at least two of them were smokers and so there were lighters that were around in the house and we started a fire on the couch and then we observe that fire. We observe the spread of that fire. We videotaped and we determined that to our surprise within four minutes after that couch was initially set on fire. The entire house was consumed in flames. And anybody inside. That house would've been dead. It was it was an impressive. Fire the couch just went up Like it was coated with gasoline. If you have a sofa made with polyurethane foam it's like having solid gasoline there and in the the back cushions were made with the Dow Krahn polyester fiber fill which also Burns really fast so this sofa Took a room to flash over very quickly way more quickly than we we had anticipated John. Lentini has described flash over her as when you go from a fire in the room.

"Lime Michael like Michael junior tray we go here with you as we continue to react to the news that too is going into the NFL draft he made the announcement yesterday right around noon eastern time yeah Todd McShay will join us every now Jose right after a show yeah problem spot you know what we should push to show back venue I was here they want to do it now I had a chance to react sorry man talking about Los thinking to me there you go you are all to all the time so he is now moving on to the draft as I said we'll have Todd McShay joining us next hour to talk about what a realistic spot is for him you know I one of the things I thought was very interesting when we were sort of analyzing what the decision was once we knew the was going then we do the other thing right we start parsing how did he look how did he sound what was he a molding to us and we'll get to that in a minute but I thought Laura Rutledge R. had the best observation here which is basically physically he looked better the other thing that I came away from today with when the is the fact that he's moving around really well lot of people wondering about that hip they did bring in Alabama did some NFL hip specialist some doctors to look at the hip in a regularly scheduled post op appointment that happened over the weekend and those sites are all good they're positive it's just very early to know exactly what that recovery is gonna look like but either way to a moving around without a crutch today very limited left I mean you could barely even tell that there was a lamp so he said he's feeling good he said he's actually been throwing the football live sometimes from a seated position but is on track to really start to do more athletic activity around that three month mark post surgery which would be around February so that of course was Laura talking to one units on NFL live so that's that's the the physical part of it it looks like he's on track and we'll see what happens when he gets the combine for the medical leave out and then there's the okay what we feel what with a sort of a situation that he looked like he was happy to gold that he looked like he was hesitant what's the body language how did his tone sound which is all this mythical stuff that we can get into and none of us really know but it's what a lot of people are doing all they are and understand to is a very high profile player but there are tons of guys to go through this every year whether it's leaving early to go to the into the league I'm sure some of them it's an easy decision saying I've done all I can do in college I don't want to risk injury I'm going to go make some money for others it could be tough you know I think it's the right business mobile point my heart still in college I'd like to stay there same thing for guys to transfer do you think guys want to transfer the guys want we keep people talking about the transfer portal guys don't want to tread they pick a school for reason they wanted to go to that school and then when they when they feel they need to transfer it's not like they love it everybody goes through the emotions of this too is a high profile guy so we're gonna look at that and talk about that but there are hundreds of guys because we're not only talking about the draft for talking about to transfer portal from talking a lot a lot of people as well where they do have emotions about this about leaving teammate that they went to school with it it is an emotional time for all of them it's also a nice easy spot for all of us to kind of project how we feel about college that's what everyone does in the situation and so we look for any inkling of how we all felt in those similar situations and it's understandable and he probably does feel some of those things but regardless in this situation and Laura's point is the most prudent one the fact that he is getting good enough news medically to be a comfortable making this decision and the fact that he's already looking comfortable enough moving around is the best indication because the one thing we all universally want is to see this guy play football again correct because lost in the boroughs in the Trevor lords of the world have been the fact that over the last few years and I I've seen whether it's pro football focus or a number of other people who measure the production of these guys are put out two heads operated at such a high level and after the way he burst onto the scene under such a high amount of scrutiny but the job is done probably doesn't get enough credit especially because we've also seen the unbelievable amount of weapons he had to work with this last including a guy who was going to go very high in the drive to jury duty so hot Chrissy who is absolutely ridiculous but for those trying to parse the emotions of the body language or the tone here was to a talking about how difficult this decision was I mean no it was just hard decision all around stake in into consideration the pros and cons for both both sides of the situation and you know the decision and you know I I got to see guidance from my my family we prayed a lot about it you know and this this this is a decision that I'm gonna have to live with you know and so I made it and I mean I'm I'm good with it so for those looking for that like it's a decision I'm going to have to live with I made it a good with it I mean there's a be able to get what are you really I think he is it's just a tough this decision again then you go to school you're eighteen years old when you choose to go to school with a bunch of other eighteen year olds in your you ever lacing shift a lot of times with with these guys for a long time I mean talk about your group checks all the time with the guys you had from school these are great really what did you say this the relationships you form in college outweigh lycee certainly did for me the relationship to form in the pros one four years in college in nine years in the NFL the relationship you have in college stock more than relationships in the pros in the pros it's a business all of a sudden you know practice and then everybody goes our own way their single they go somewhere they're married to go home to their families in college man you will hang out together did you do it's it's an emotional tough time sure we think he's making the right business decision but that doesn't mean for two white and as I said tons of other people there isn't some a motion tax to attach to this yeah it's it's probably the part that we rob these guys of the most is as we look at it we talk about the big business of college football and stuff like that and quite frankly we do this in the NFL if we act like just because that your invested in the business portion of things in the way they go on doesn't mean you love things any different right like that's why people want him to stay in college and that's why people claim to love college so much as per the purity and love the game itself like they don't have a choice in getting paid or not and also we've seen how many guys this last weekend crying coming off wild card weekend anyone else see Josh McCallum yeah arms correctly he wanted that game any less because he drew a paycheck no I'm not that's not how it goes so too are just another reminder that the just because you're making the right business isn't done mean there's not a ton of emotion wrapped up in it yeah I have a hard time with the purity the game and big time calling it is come on don't don't don't you know one of my leg and tell me it's right yeah yeah so listen barring disastrous news up from the the medical recheck or what they see at the combine and by the way everything would indicate the as as we had Greg McElroy with us on earlier from the SEC network off to play at Alabama also played the NFL he must be getting some news physically that he thinks he's going to be okay and play the next level so boring a dramatic turn of events what do you think this the door of the basement is for tour in the draft what what what's the look because we all know quarterbacks are always over drank there then he was going to be one or two before he got hurt so what do you think the lowest possible scenario is why I think of everything comes back clean and you know I like to chat with for a couple minutes would be again I know we just had yesterday with this fifty napkins but a guy like Mike Tannenbaum I mean say a guy who worked in front offices for years if you get the medical email back that says he's going to be fine but in no way shape or form can you work him out before the draft what do you do what does that do I mean that that's something I don't know the answer well Mike Mike Tannenbaum you know maybe we can we can try to get him really quick just to see what the procedure is for that okay even all comes back he's gonna be good to go but we can't work come up before the draft do you still roll the dice and take him so I think that the the top would be five what would be no lower than the top fifteen it's tough for me to answer that Jason I think it's also significant in his press conference yesterday a couple of his quotes I don't think any of the doctors can tell the foreseeable future I don't think the guys re having me can tell me that from what I've seen in New York everything looks good but you really can't tell until the three month mark or the four month mark and he also said quote I'm optimistic that I'll be able to play this kind of coming season but for me right now more worried about getting better soon as possible to see what I can do it all depends on what the doctors say as well as far as proteges so to that point in his moment where it was as pre rehearsed as possible to the questions they knew they were going to get he didn't seem to have this assurance that he's going to be ready to be checked in time so well they can look at it how much can they look at and how healed will he be to get a real sense of it so let me ask you this bike for getting the book for net don't forget the hip at the hip into it but every year he's played he's been hurt he said too tight rope surgeries on on the at the ankle each ankle is that in the now he's got the hip does that concern you even more than the hip the fact that he's been injured every year is played how many Alabama players get taken in the first round of most rabbis taught and how many how many surgeries coming how many come out with a medical she's in my life I don't know I I don't know the answer to most of the knock on Alabama players they come out of there with get a surgery date Nick Nick just grinds of money that's the way they operate down there so that to me does not scare me all that much because we see that with twenty guys powered off we had on yesterday was injured pretty much every year we were a Notre Dame is gone on to enjoy a pretty solid wealth of NFL success so when you continue a different setting sometimes when your full time job is taking care of your body the way it becomes for these guys when you're playing it full time against other people they're all the same caliber player you and I understand less of a problem in Alabama that it probably is in other places I think some of those can mitigate it I told so let's let's take a look here and look at the draft and where things might go right we know Cincinnati as the.

"That it was lime that i had the word right and you know what word they use on their homepage movement movement joining the lime movement who knew who knew that would catch on like it has once again like i'm always fascinated with even the experts don't know what's going to catch but man there are now thousands of them all around where i live so if you haven't seen this yet then then i then welcome because i'm betting it's coming your way and if it fades out fizzles out here well then this episode you know just became the extended riff that had always that's it that's the thing you laugh at it we laugh at it but it might become massive it might be a fad or it might be the future and no one really knows and the interesting thing is you have to be careful that you don't ridicule something that then everybody catches on and it works and people start using it the like one word twitter right twitter and when you on twitter the thing that you do on twitter is you tweet if i had told you there's going to be this thing that millions of people are going to do including the president we're going to hear about massive changes in american foreign policy via this particular platform you're like oh really what's it called what's it called international broadcast symposium now what's it called what's it called significant content dissemination services not not what's it gonna be called it's going to be called twitter twitter yup and what are you gonna do on it you're going to tweet right you would probably have been like that's not gonna work that's not going to catch on and the president's not gonna do that at least not in public with people knowing right and yet that is what we have this odd world we find ourselves in so when the interesting thing about something like this as you see it and you see catch on and you you it's like you have to pause and be careful you don't laugh too hard adults riding scooters it still seems to me completely absurd and yet you gotta be really careful because you might find yourself on one at some point you know what i mean this might become really massive this actually and there's some of this on the lime site this might actually solve some problems i mean this could have something to do with the environment and traffic and who knows what causes what problems what inefficiencies might be resolved through the acclamation of adult scaled electric scooter that sort of exists out in public spaces i could be a fad like those hover boards that dues were on that were like are you saying it might come and go every kid might ask for one for christmas for only one year or in the future that just might be how people get around and there might be there might be a scooter lay on the row you don't it could be a fad or it could be the future you can laugh but it might be massive stat interesting all of this in these funny scooters flying around so we're on the strong were strolling in the neighborhood and i'm on my extended riff as literally lime and birds scooters are going by and kristen our friend kristen had never seen any of them and kristen and i are telling her like check watch this see them there there's one now there's a line one and we end up having lunch at this restaurant on the site with a table on the sidewalk it's the best flaw ful hamas in la by the way i'm not actually exaggerate it was actually voted best philophical and hamas in la and this restaurant or neighborhood and we're sitting out on a saturday afternoon and saturday afternoons in the neighborhood are like it's like a sneaker head central so there are people that are all these shops there's like restaurants and they're all these shot shops that sell like killer tennis shoes others people sneaker heads coming and going.

"You saying or do you know the purest heart in the universe but you doing it this way is a deep critique of that way even if you never acknowledged that way even exists yeah yeah that's how it is so it is you do something and who knows what might come your way or who knows who made toss one of your scooters into the canal i was thinking about the owner when they were like doing budgets and i assume there's like a giant line item for damaged scooters 'cause you know you give the public access to something with wheels you can only imagine what people are going to bang into and crash into an ways people are going to find to abuse these things which is why appear to be built like somewhat indestructible but you know that was one of the accountants ever just like by the way we should make a line item for what should we do what ten a month the one hundred year are going to get thrown in a canal and someone's like no one's ever gonna throw this incident you just watch people are very creative so i notice these things more and more and more everywhere literally yesterday kristen and i were walking along telling kristen a our friend kristen who's in town about these scooters when two people went by on them like they're it's like they're now it's like one of those things where like at first you see a couple and then once you see them now you see them everywhere but then here's the thing that happened this week with this blew my mind i get out too i get out to surf i'm walking across that boardwalk too where where normally there are a bunch of the scooters around and there are a whole group should i say i guess i don't say nest in this situation interesting enough caught myself there's a whole group of white scooters and the white scooters don't say bird on them the white scooters say a line and have a little logo of like a cross section of a lime like the fruit and their white with green letters and they say lime and they look a lot like birds scooters and i was like oh competition oh now there's bird but then there's also live and then i got out there and saw people were going up and down the boardwalk online scooters this is a couple of days ago and i was like oh interesting yeah there's like somebody else had this same idea and then you ready for this and a couple of days ago there were a whole bunch of birds scooters in our neighborhood and then there were also a whole bunch of lime scooters and then this morning like right after sunrise i'm going down the street and on one side of the street at every intersection is a group of birds scooters and on the other side of the street is a whole group of lime scooters they're literally it's like an arms race of electrically charged scooters all over particular areas of los angeles and they're literally setting up in the morning at the same intersections just on opposing sides of the street how great please tell me somebody is documenting this because it's the great scooter wars of two thousand eighteen who will win by the way if you're the owner of scooter or you're an investor in of sorry bird if you're the owner or an investor or employee employees of bird.
