"Good to have you on Thomas in Charleston. Your next Tom good afternoon. Are you today? We are. Well, thank you. Hey, quick comment yesterday shows sort of fall off the rails. I know she made a statement about Daboh Lillo Clemson. But none, none of your callers picked up on it, but I do want to ask you, if you're going to be in little old Clemson on September seven for the Texas thing. Texas A and M gang. I will not you will not. Well, if you know this, another quick comment on the little Clemson thing. I think I'm a football perspective. Everybody realizes that clemson's not little anymore. They Davos growing that program to be faithfully giant pretty much the same level of Fama, but they're, you know, geographically Clemson is a small town pretty much just supports. The university is a little bit off the beaten path. But I will say there is a there's an app out there ways for navigation as you get closer to Clemson on eighty five's, the closest major interstate if you type in college football national champions, they will give you directions to memorial stadium. Well, I'm glad you told me that because I did relate my, my first trip there, the second time I went to Clemson. I was able to find it much easier. Thank you for the call. And you know that was a little bit of a joke about little. Oh, clemson. But. That's what dabble always said. You said it when he was handed the trophy couple of months ago. Thanks for the call. Jason in Arkansas, next. Good afternoon. I had to quit the one that you far about the crap. I did not watch any of it. Let's find out leak within eighty mood and what I haven't been time under eager. I watered another could you tell me how Daniel get or did? And also wanted to ask you about the if you think the Clintons and at the Alabama in the Petit, but Clemson and Alabama fatigue in that, that would be the reason for that for championship game getting low ratings. And do you think having new blood to be in the nice title? Then if you will that change anything fourth viewership go. Well, let me address the second part of that. I, I do think there is a modicum of fatigue with Alabama and Clemson, I found the build up this year to be. Pretty tepid and I was part of it. So that's a criticism of myself. The ratings are not bad. I mean listen that game is seen by twenty five million people. There are not many events on television that have an audience as high as that's the problem that I have with where we all right now in the college football playoff is in the game. The championship game is not growing. It's not getting any bigger. It was bigger the very first year. There was an intrigue factor. And I believe it's gone down every year since marginally, but it's still gone down. I wanna see college football taken seriously by other people. This is what we do. And it continues to fall behind the NFL. And one reason I think it falls behind the NFL is at the college football playoff system is not that great. And I, I do believe we are going to see an expansion and I understand the argument against the expansion but. College football has to be pragmatic and quick thinking I in the predictable antediluvian manner that they do. And that's why I believe at some point very soon, they will finally quit being so stubborn quit being so old school in expanded with with for no other reason than to bring other parts of the country in gaffer went he was among the what, what did he go, fifth fourth or fifth is that, right? Sick. You went in the first five or six I can't remember I, I was like you, I was, I was in and out of the draft all night with other things going on, like an imminent war. We'll take a break eight five five to four to seven to eight five. Matt Jones will join us in a moment. More of your phone calls as well. Listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. "Now by Steven Russell Lillo Wall Street Journal reporter based in Asia with us live this morning. Stephen swift reaction, I guess in the markets. What's been going on today? Pretty crazy day in the markets, actually, at least here in Asia. The the main index in China itself. Five point six percent. That was the worst drop twenty sixteen. A lot of other stock indexes around the legion fall as well. And the worry is that this is going to trickle into the US after you know, what once trading opens, Monday morning and the keys ear that. Well, actually things like that quite as good as they seem at the moment. So I think you know, as with any tweets that receive from President Trump, I think that agreement fault or take care of any wait and see what happened. Now, of course is not very helpful. When it comes to the markets in the quick market reaction because a lot of time it's a lot faster than you can sort the news. So it certainly will be interesting to see what happens out. There was some news that Chinese delegation that was expected to go to the US to resume these. They are still expected to to go. There was the second to that. Maybe they would after the some. But so far at least I right now, it looks like that delegation. It's still expected to go to the US. So that's a good sign. Would say, of course, sitting here right now, it looks like was going to be quite a bit of an ugly open at least for for US stocks Monday morning, if China decided that it was not going to take part in these trade talks on Friday because it didn't like the tweets from the president yesterday with that be a worse case scenario. I don't think it would be a good sign put it that way. You know? That's just a twenty eight teen. It was a pretty bad year for markets across the board. Well on Wall Street. You know, like to know what's going to happen ahead of time. We've been we've been here. Really, quiet. We're speaking live this morning with Stephen Russell Lillo at the Wall Street Journal, he's based in Asia, the president knows that a tweet like that on a Sunday. We'll have a significant impact on markets on Monday in Asia and Europe and ahead of the market open. The US why do it? That's a great question. I talked to a couple people about that today. And the thinking was well the markets are going to get rattled by this. Why do it now? Now could be because the markets have been strong this year. Five hundred is up. Eighteen percent hit a record high last week. There is a time that you're going to do something that you kind of know how to time could potentially rattle the markets. Now, would it. I mean, if it was the opposite of the market was down eighteen percent this year. That tweet. But because. Have done so well, and as you get a little back. Well, you know, potentially again, I know obviously, I don't know what's going through. That maybe he's thinking, you know, okay. Can afford a little bit of pullback year still quite well on visiting Greg. Thank Stephen a few minutes. Stephen russula, Wall Street Journal reporter based in Asia with us live this morning. "Video was somebody who really seems awful and quiets at times and somewhat articulate, and obviously smarts and not too high maintenance either, you know, as an athlete and somebody who's lived around worked around other athletes, I felt good but the very basics of the game. Especially in celebrity big brother is your sociability your your social currency in the house, and I just worry that she. He might come off a little bit cold. So that's why didn't care bobsledder front. I know right. She's one of the only one of ten to evil. I here who has been any summer and Winter Olympic so go go go girl. Yeah. Okay. All right in my top half as well. And I felt like I really liked that she knew the game, or at least seemed to know the game, and she already had kind of developed a strategy going in. And I like the fact that she was like I don't want to try and appear to ask Lennox of already thinking of maybe like baking an injury or faking some sort of like just leave. I'm not good at this sort of stuff or whatever. And I felt very confident about that. The only thing is I've heard a lot of stuff about her reputation from the challenge. "You're taking no risk. Now, if you've got somebody that walks into whatever banker credit union that is and they have a credit score of two fifty and they've got garnishments, and they got back child support and everything else and you still give them alone. I assume. The your underwriting department is going to make certain that you get a security interest in some sort of asset. So that if they decide at the end of the thirty days when they have to pay start paying it back, and I don't know what the pay was terms loans. Are I don't care what the terms of the loans are. But I'm going to soon that your underwriting department because you're still. A federally insured, Bank or credit union. So you're underwriting standards are still going to have to meet those. A federal law. But here's what those who keep cry. Like if I hear Michael Hancock one more time talk about oh, my God, the impact on Denver because of these people that work out the federal center will first of all not everybody. The federal centre has been furloughed not everybody. The federal center is not getting a paycheck. Don't ever forget. It is only twenty five percent of the government that has shut down. They're granted. Let's go back to the TSA for a second. If we had not taken over security at the airports. This wouldn't be an issue. But this is what happens when you create this dumb ass behemoth called the department of homeland security in over little Mike Lillo Michael Brown's objection 'cause I can tell you. If you don't believe me, you can ask Tom Ridge. You can ask ISA Hutchinson. Who's the current governor of Arkansas who was the head of the transportation? I forget what they called that particular part of homeland security, but the TSA was under Acer. This is a good friend of mine. He's a great guy. Great governor of Arkansas, you can ask him. If you don't believe me the Brown object. Oh, brand new. In fact, that's probably why they don't like me. Is because I kept looking around the room or around the table asking. Why are why do we feel that if we take these people fire all of the existing security workers, and then hire them back as federal employees? What does that do to make us any safer? And this is post nine eleven I'm asking I'm asking the basic question. It's the same people accept that. Now, they become a federal bureaucrat. Campfire we were promised they would never unionize. And so now, we are reaping. Exactly what we so we have turn them into federal bureaucracy that when there's a government shutdown. They called in sick, which is their version of going on a strike. So that we feel the pain. Do you think they're doing this because they're like, well, you know, because I thought if you go back to Maria. Email. They're there to protect and serve. Why? They are there. If you're there to protect and serve what the hell. Are you doing calling in sick? Well, Michael, here's how the argument goes. Well, Michael, they're only paid, you know, thirty eight twenty eight twenty five whatever this thousand dollars a year. Well, guess what you chose to take that job? You knew that when you took that job, you were a federal worker. So you got incredible benefits the protection of a union. In addition to the protection of being a civil servant. And then you get because there's such turnover if he'd just show up for work as as a TSA refused to call them officers because they have no law enforcement authority whatsoever. Don't refer to them as TSA officers. They had zero zilch law enforcement authority. So they sign up to be a TSA employees. TSA screener? They now have more protection. I bet ninety nine percent of the people listening to this program right now, excluding people that are federal workers. So they got incredible benefits that got much more protection. And so they know how to inflict pain on us. And don't think for a minute that this is just accidental that at Hartsfield the nation's busiest airport at Houston intercontinental and pretty soon. What's Denver number fourteen? Maybe number ten in the country pretty soon. We'll be good old Denver International airport to oh. We got to shutdown these security lanes because we don't have enough people. And so now is going to be you gotta be at the airport. I don't know twenty four hours in advance. Why do you think that is because they want you to suffer? They don't give a rat's ass about your safety. They only care about you suffering because what's this about this is about making Donald Trump book bad? It's all it's about Donald Trump invited. Both the Democrats and the Republicans to the White House again today to try to negotiate guests who did not show up. That's right. The Democrats you can't negotiate if you don't show up if you don't show up that tells me that tells me, regardless of what you think of Donald Trump, whether you think he's an ask an idiot, the smartest man on the world. The best thing that ever happened to the presidency. The worst thing that ever happened to the presidency, regardless. As Maria might say irregardless, regardless of what you might think. Donald trump. He's trying to negotiate. He's trying to get people to the table. If I were in labor negotiations. If I were representing management and labor negotiations and we had reached an impasse. And I was the arbitrator or hell's bells, I was representing management doesn't make any difference. And I said, let's all come back to the table and just talk. It's like counseling. Let's just get everybody in a room. Even though nerves are frayed even though everybody's peed on their little corner. They've marked their territory, let's all get in the room. Everybody can sniff the peace spots. Everybody can figure out what everybody else little territory is. And we're going to sit here. And I would just sit. I've been an arbitrator before too. If I were in the middle of an arbitration one side didn't show up boom. I don't care what the merits of the case. Are you just lost? You just lost big time. It's like not showing up for court. You get a default judgment entered against you pronto in the judge is going to be PEO because you didn't show up will guess who didn't show up today. The democrats. You have to be a partisan. You don't have to be for the wall against the wall for the shutdown against the shutdown. All you've got to be saying is, well, wait a minute. If you don't show up hacking, you even negotiate with the guy, and if you're telling me that you can't negotiate with the guy will he just invited you back to negotiations again, and the other side showed up don't you want to be there? You don't wanna be there? If you have no.

"First. Warning weather partly cloudy muggy scattered showers, and thunderstorms tonight seventy two and. Then a good chance of rain again tomorrow showers and thunderstorms and eighty six for the i. weather powered by the basement doctor. Eighty nine in Westerville and ninety at your severe weather station News Radio six ten WTVN I'm, Dave man and this. Is the. Six pack, and tonight we're going to talk with sue the Lillo executive director at choices for domestic. Violence in Columbus sue thanks for coming on tonight. I appreciate the time hi Dave thanks so much for having me, you bet, domestic, violence is, in the news and there's alleged domestic violence in in this case. With, former Ohio State receivers coach Zac Smith and his ex wife Courtney Smith and many. People have discussed on the air here and people over the weekend talking, with, family, and friends The. Question comes up why doesn't the abuse person just leave I've. Heard it over and over and. Over and I think a lot of us realized that it's just not that easy. But that's why we. Wanted to have somebody like yourself come on so let's just start there and can. You kind. Of outline answer the question and just kind of outline, why that's not always? The case it's just not that easy, certainly thank you, for asking that's a great question. There are many reasons why someone who's in an abusive situation doesn't leave this is often a person that. They, are that they love they. May be married to. That, they've. Committed their life to most of. Us just. Don't wanna walk away from that there's a financial risk there's concerns about the children and how they would handle, some, kind of, a separation they're stigma, it's interesting, that the first question I get asked is why do victims stay and I, don't have people asking me Why do abusers do? What they do so we somehow made this. An issue about the victim and not necessarily about the behavior that led it, to someone becoming a victim so stigma in these situations, is huge. Lack of support or understanding. From friends or family that's another barrier that would prevent someone from leaving an abusive relationship so there's definitely a. Connection would you say then. If, if if one of. The spouses is making. Good money or is it a high profile kind of job that somebody. Potentially could put up with it longer well I think finances. Regardless of if it's a good. Paying job if if you're a income household depends on a certain amount of income. How do you make. Up for that if you we've household how do you specially if you leave the. Household when. You have children or if you've not been able to, access which is a? Pretty common tactic for an abuser to Deny access to funds to the victims so, if you're a victim even if you're earning the higher income you may, not have access to that money so? Leaving without, money or, knowing how you're going to be able to get it really creates a, challenge sue va Lillo executive director at choices, for domestic violence here in Columbus joining me this evening So, is there a higher propensity for domestic violence in any sort, of demographic there really isn't, we talk, about this being an, issue that cuts, across all races ages socioeconomic status it just doesn't matter, so now it does not it is. Not more prevalent in a, specific demographic do you notice not that, this would be a demographic in and of. Itself but how about like in pro football or a sports culture whether it's players or coaches or trainers. Or or you know athletics in general is there any sort of telltale. Signs coming from there Not that. I'm aware of what about a person who's abuse. Are they thinking? I can change this person over time or they'll change themselves. I mean that's got to be a recurring fought to the, person being abused yes absolutely, that that, you know part of, the victimization of, someone is getting them to believe that it's their fault So the victim believes over time that they are really What's. Happening to them is something that is their, own fault it's because they're doing something wrong, or bad and they. Believe if they change their behavior the abuser will change so that's a part of the cycle of violence and how victims get. Trapped into staying into in this kind of a relationship how often does treatment work between an, abuser, in, a, victim of somebody comes in and says yeah I I've I've hit my. Wife and I wanna stop and I? Wanna stay together what kind. Of success rate. The UC that's an extremely difficult question, I at choices. We work with the victims of violence. Not the perpetrators, I, don't have an answer to, that I will say however if someone's coming forward saying, I have this behavior and I want to change it the opportunity for success is. Much greater than someone maybe who's being forced into treatment so. It sounds like in so many of these cases too The natural defense, is to say that the abuse person is crazy that they're a nutcase do you. See a lot of that kind of stuff being bandied about Any, I think what. We see with are victims of domestic violence is anything that will discredit them that the. Abuser will say anything to make the case against them sound less credible So that they're crazy or that. There's? Some kind of addiction or that they're you know that they're the ones that are the abuser which is probably the most common anything that would make the victim, sound less credible And just because a, potential victim could maybe have substance abuse problems or character, issues that still doesn't mean they, deserve to get beat right absolutely and it doesn't I mean that they're not telling the truth I mean. You can't just, make that kind of blanket assumption that someone's not telling the truth because they have. Some other kind of issue that they're dealing with. As, well. And then also When charges don't get filed and that that doesn't mean the abuse didn't occur or there's never charges press there's. Never a conviction How does I guess I don't even know if there's a, question there but that's gotta just be an amazing thing to try to dig out of be just because there was there was, no conviction no charges pressed. Or filed that doesn't mean it didn't. Happen. Either absolutely and it's very difficult to get charges filed. Against someone so when the police, go out certainly they are looking for who's? The abuser what has happened in the situation and particularly with c. PD wanting to bring about charges if they can. Evidence that, but again they have they have rules and protocols that they have to follow to be able to make a charge stick against a batterer just, in closing is there anything that that gets overlooked in something in case after, cases there anything that would surprise the rest, of us something commonplace that just doesn't occur to us that are happening in? These circumstances is there something we can look for or You know what I'm trying? To say I mean yes so I would say a couple, of things I is domestic violence is really about power and control so if you see a partner being controlled by another partner, by the other partner that. May be a clue that there's domestic. Violence. In the relationship the other thing I would say is. That if if someone shares with, you that there are a victim of abuse? Rather than try to figure out it doesn't make sense I don't I know the other party it couldn't happen to. Just listen, to be that supportive listening ear because that may be the first step someone makes in trying to get out of that situation Suva Lillo executive, director at choices for domestic violence appreciate the time tonight in closing what do, people do if they need help aside from, calling nine one one in a obviously in a life threatening situation how about?
