"On in front what do you do? What I've been is to my pay you know of course. Of course I I've been encouraging people to call their local state Senator or Assembly Person Down Rally for two half weeks now not one return. Fall Falkhall. He's he's now he's now your congressman Eh Right now if he was your assemblyman assembly person right now but you do have a senator and I think that that would be rich. Funky so it paid a call rich again not that they can wave a magic wand but they they just know they they know the best thing you can do to increase your likelihood of getting through because people obviously asked him this question every day. I Bet Yeah because I know people that got through on the same day that are waiting for two months for two months for their you know camp turned on employment. And so are they gonNA back. Are they GONNA pay the Governor says yes you get paid retroactive but again you know. I can't buy dinner today. With tomorrow's retroactive. Money is what I always thought. You know you're right on the money with that. Have caught have whoever if they. If if Iran equip area that has had them call rich. Funke's office and maybe those people can give a pointer. You have a great day to what people really like. Is the Guy Hemming in Hong as he looks up a phone number these too dumb to find? That's that's that's really good radio there. We Will Stop. Be Back in a moment with you. Two to seventy the number. This is Newsradio wham eleven eighty auto back. Welcome back my friend Here's the thing we have a A this is a question not an assertion. I think this is unusual. Something that like you or I have never seen when we see it. It's unusual right. The whole world rest of the world may know about it. But if you and I stumbled across that fact yet within some kind of new thing so the Lilacs are blooming at the house and years and years and years ago And I never man's name I think It was it was Ted Collins. Did he do did he do? Who was Mr Lilac Eddie Ray? By twenty five years ago or so I was at the Lilac Festival. And there's a gentleman Gave me a lilac and he said take this home and plant it. Ranked and So obedient I took it home and planted it and it has over these years since done when I guess lilacs are supposed to do and It has like purple flowers with like a slightest little white along the edge of the pedals. It doesn't make a lot of flowers. It doesn't make a lot of sent you know. But it's nice and such like that but me lilacs. I Want Them Lush Right. I I I want. I want big giant massive all over the place of purple flowers. And I want you a hundred yards away. I want to be able to smell them right. I want to be one of those deals where you walk up and you just bury your face in the bosom of these flowers and sniff and go. Oh my gosh. This is why God made lilacs right here right. That's I. I'm still waiting for that Bush to grow right. But we've got this one and if you sniff real harding's Mellon but here's the thing we It trimmed it. You know pruned it. Here a year or two ago. And you know a branch broke off and so it's it it's been you know it it's been reshaped and so it's having a pretty good Spring yesterday we noticed my dear bride. Ni- that amidst this Bush with its various. You know little Purple Flowers that with the white tiny line on the edge of the PEDALS was one go group when you call of of of a white flower. It had a big white flower and I thought well has another Bush grown here. But you can see that. It's just it's a little sucker branch that's come up off you know. It had a bunch of long branches or sticking out to the side we cut those and then a bunch of like you know they started growing up. Please little sucker things and and they made flowers and it is right out of the same tree or Bush. Whatever you call it and they're all the purple and except this one. They grew up the white. And I'm just curious about that because I don't know that I've ever seen another Lilac Bush that had two colors on it and if it did you would think well maybe one came out of a grafted rootstock or maybe somebody grafted in a different color but this just grew naturally right out of the side of the thing. Dave glad you called. Welcome to newsradio eleven eighty. Hello Good Morning. Welcome Sir I name is Dave and I wanted to call in because I'm seeing people doing what they can would. Ike that Our mask because I don't want folks getting freaked out even though I think I understand that the likelihood of transmission Is extraordinarily low to nonexistent as long as we follow a simple Rules of social distancing. Like you know. Don't stand so close to me. I think we had a song about that. One time back in a moment on newsradio Wham Levin Eighty welcome back my friend. Oh what is this on? I know they're GONNA say eventually. I remember back then. I thought it was a long term. Go to the bathroom of very nice. Kevin Guide you called. Welcome to newsradio eleven eighty. Yeah I wanted to know your opinion on how president trump refuses to wear a mask in public. I think it's his call I think he's trying to make a point I don't believe it does any harm Masks to the extent that they are protective are the greatest likelihood. There's a very small. I mean they don't do very good at keeping germs away from you. They do better at keeping your germs away from others right so Trump is tested on a regular basis. He doesn't have covert he's not endangering anybody And also I think that the media is very much on him to wear a mask as part of a you know compelled to compliance thing. So I it's it's his choice doesn't it doesn't bother me I Yesterday ran out through highland park. Just for the heck of a chick see how the lilacs we're doing will probably kick them out Quite a bit But yesterday there were very few almost no lilacs that are out. The flowering trees are doing pretty well. They're losing some of those big Pedals there were a lot of people there Just enjoying being outside in the fresh air. And it was a delight to see them but at highland park just like At my front yard the lilacs are still you know their mailing in baby if there was going to be a year not to have a lilac festival yeah this might have been it no lilacs and it snowed when they would have been having the parade. "Mean, there's just there's something for everybody here and you know, what yourself from Michigan or anywhere to just come and experience. It's a it's everybody says it's unique place. Believe me, friends. This is truly unique experience. I think hearing from you the reminder that kids, welcome might be a welcome reminder for a lot of listeners who think, what are we going to do with all the kids? We got to get the kids up there. We gotta have somewhere to go as a family. This is a family destination. Family owned and run this place if kids running all over the place. I mean and it it's such a safe place to come to bring your kids to we don't have automobiles here. There's miles of hiking trails. Bicycle trails never mind. All the amenities that we have just for kids in particular children's program twice a day. I look at their activities I wanted sign up for the children's program. Can you and I have a great tradition? Now, I know that your role has morphed, a little bit here concierge, and you could walk through the parlor and Bob would be sitting at the desk. Now, the desk is gone. It's over. They've replaced where the pay phone Bank was with an actual concierge, kind of a station cool, although I don't know how to make a call. No one else does either at a phone booth. But our, our long-standing tradition has been to share with our listeners, great questions asked of the concierge. And I know that I don't know if your book has done yet coming so hit some highlights for us. Well, still my favorite in the whole world is, does the water go all the way around the island. That's still my favorite, my second favorite. We know we have if you come and visit us for the day, there's a ten dollar charge you come on the property, and we credit that ten dollars to the luncheon buffet and I just love it when we have a self guided tour for ten dollars and people wanna know who gives a self guided tour that's still still what am I all time favorites? Yeah. Oh, the seafood that you catch, right? Here is pretty good. So, yeah, that was. And that's probably the most class that was three years ago, very nicely. Young lady comes up and ask if she could book a whale watching tour of the Great Lakes. And I very politely said, well, there's really no whales in the Great Lakes. She's what happened is the shark Scott him. Of course. Here. Ability to mess with people's minds deserves its own show, delegates party waiting to happen. Quite often when you walk into your room here at grant hotel, and you turn on your TV, the first face that you will see is, is quite often your it's pretty scary. We, I've got we've got several historical things we run on their behind the scenes and historical lectures. I referred to it as a sleep aid. It will put you right? L. Let me. Well, if you watch log enough, I think, after Bob's done, you'll see our show come on. And if between those two things you don't run out of the hotel that you're here for your here for Keith. It's working, it's working for, and it is a such a beautiful setting and Jason you. And I'll talk about this, a lot during the course of the program, but the tie-in of golf, I think I think there was a time when it was kind of considered to be basically an amenity now. It's a feature, and that's a big difference in how golf is thought of here. Well, I think so for about ninety years, we just had a nine hole golf course in, in the early nineties when we added the back nine I think the hotel took off a little bit more seriously. We have our group coming in on Sunday afternoons. Celebrating Father's Day if they're if they're able to get here in time for the parade this parade weekend, Mr. tag. The conclusion of the lilac festival this Sunday afternoon at four o'clock. Are you a part of the parade? I'm afloat in the pretext of me. I go down small children fund. No, no, no. I'll definitely was. I've never we're gonna have whatever anti carriages in the parade this year. Well, it is a if such a place of great tradition that it's, it's hard to take it all in. You also lead a number of tours kitchen garden can what's the most popular tour that you people for.

"It's become a great tradition in the twenty year history of Michigan golf live as we bring the show to historic Grand Hotel for the MG L grand Gulf getaway. And as G L, launches our next twenty years of broadcast for mackinac island. We've probably reaffirm. Our commitment to having the jockey club burger and grandpa, CONMEBOL added to the breakfast menu. It's that dedication to excellence, you've come to appreciate from your host, Bill Hobson, great field putter uses his hands beautifully. And we welcome you into another edition of Michigan golf live radio. As we celebrate the greatest game on earth, all across the state on some wonderful radio affiliates from the top of the state down to the very base of it, and no matter where you are today. I know that at some point in your life, you've come to mackinac island, if you haven't then maybe just moved into the state a couple of days ago because this is where everybody comes, and this is the time of year, they come here, including this weekend, about sixty rooms of guests coming to take part in the annual Michigan Gulf live grand Gulf getaway at grant hotel, and we spend this program, every Father's Day Saturday. Celebrating with our friends at partners here at Grand Hotel, led by PGA professional, Jason Horrex, who has been captaining the Gulf helm here for how many years now. This is my eighteenth season. The head road twentieth year. Overall? It's good to see you again. Happy new year. We can say that. Yes. On the sun is shining, as we get ready for this very great weekend. There's a big parade on Sunday that caps off the lilac festival, our guests come rolling in and they will be greeted by a golf and hotel experience. That's really quite unique. Well, it, you know, the setting here on mackinac island is just unique, and our golf course. I like to say has some of the best views on the island it really does. And you and the team have been working to enhance those views, even a little more the last couple of years, hence the views and, you know, maybe at a few challenges here here, and there, let's talk. Let's talk hardcore Gulf for those who have come here and play this, this course before on the grand nine which is the nine most people see before they take the carriage ride to the back nine we'll get into that in a moment changes since last season to the grand night. What do you have while we on our second? Holy had a fairly big project and which psychos. The power for pretty short power for and, and for folks, like me that can hit the ball off the driver pretty far. It was kind of a somewhat boring ish type hold. So he added we expanded upon a water hazard that. A small stream that ran from third hole and ran underground to our seventh hole. Nurena underground on on the second hole. In what we did is we just took that out and added a new water feature to the second hole, which makes you think a little bit about your t-shirt, little bit more than used to. So this creek, no longer runs underground, it's, it's, it's open. And you don't want your ball to go in there because the long winter that we hit up here. They're a heavy snow melt runoff and, and volunteers that stream and it's going to be rolling away pretty quickly. We're going to talk at the start of our number two, withdrew Butterfield, who is the director of grounds, and I call it the guy charge of all things. Beautiful outside here. And he's long had this dream of making the seventh hole, the par three downhill that you can see. It's, it's, it's the picture, postcard hall of making that into an island green, it's already a two hundred and thirty yard par three. Tell me he didn't win that discussion. He has a dream, and it's gonna stay that way. I can't imagine the one thing about the second hole. We were worried about, you know, are we going gonna make that maybe a little too tough? Well, what we did is that we made the tee shot a little bit easier. We mowed down a lot of rough that used to be in the driving way in, so the tee shirts actually will be easier. But now on the second shot, you got about a six foot stream to carry to get to the greed and there. Wow. In then for those long hitters that may potentially try to drive the green, which you still can. But you're just going to have to hit a perfect tee shot for.

"Here's frank. All right. Welcome. In to our second hour of the Frank Beckmann show for this Wednesday from Kobo at the auto show, and dick Haefner, the more. I look at this Rashida to leave story and her tweets about right wing media now targeting my little sister Layla. I. I hate to say I'm suspicious, but I really really have trouble believing that people are trying to contact her sister Layla how in the world would they know who Leyla is her last name is Ella bed. And I just I I don't see where the liquid come that. People would. Associate this woman with the community center for economic and social services with congresswoman mother of the year, where she leap, I it's just puzzle and the puzzle to me is this dick. Why does she not? Define or identify. I should say the right wing media that is targeting her little sister Layla. That's a good question. Call it out. There's no reason not to. Well, unfortunately, raw sheet to lead doesn't doesn't feel like answering questions about that either. So she ignores are are pleased for comment. So which is fine. That's her choice. But. I'm throwing a flag on on her claim. I just I have trouble believing. That's all I'll be honest with you. And that's you know, that's a straight as I can put it. I don't believe her. It's not out of the realm of possibility though. Okay. So who is it? Well, and that's the what is right wing media. But there are those those. Outlets out there that are that are far right leaning that you could see something like that happening. They just gonna call little Layla and say play LA. Are you on the no fly list? What's the point? It does seem what's the point? Yeah. Rashida? Are you still proud of trying to bring some difficulty to a four million dollar children's fund raiser, Kobo the other night are you ashamed that at all? They were peaceful. Don't get me. Started peaceful. Don't get me started. Okay. Russia. We'll continue to try to get Russia to talk about little sister Layla. It would be helpful to know those sources. The outlook following her. And what did they do a harassing her by saying are, you know, filers? I can't even imagine somebody calling and asking that even news organizations that would be considered maybe right-leaning like, Fox News or something. I don't even see what what what what what would they gain from having that information? Are you? I I don't think so. We've looked a DC not too long ago. So you got there we got. So I seem to get through. Okay. Let's bring on the owner of Riva's fudge, president of the island house hotel mackinaw island as well. It can probably walk across the straits right now. Yeah. Right, right. Yeah. It's getting there. They stopped running the boats. Todd Calloway's here are you on the no fly list? I am. I don't think. So. All right. I think I'm I'm not on that list. Does it offend you? Do you feel like you're under attack that I ask you that? I know I do not good. Not good. I'm glad to hear that. I don. I don't want you to feel that way. I don't thank you what I attack you. I wanted to be physical. Appreciate. You make Frank Beckmann famous fudge apply mackinaw island for the chambers leadership conference every year. That's a big seller. It is a big seller. One of our better sellers there. I think you gotta do it. More often. I got a certain amount of space that I can display fudge. So you know, you got to well what flavors? Did you bring over here? Well, that's that's a chocolate sea salt with sea salt on caramel and sea salt on top of a doughnut. And then the turtles are famous turtle fudge with caramel and pecans on top of a chocolate nut. Oh, look at this. Chris got a picture of it. All cut up. Oh, that's very nice. Yeah. Real nice real nice. So see you come down to Kabul. I mean is there. When this goes outdoors next year, it's going to be fun. Sure. Well, we're gonna we're gonna come down June. We used to come down for the Michigan state fair. So we're going to kind of treat it like the Michigan state fair and bring a crew down and set it up, and we'll be here for three weeks and setting up, and we're going to concentrate we have a outdoor trailer that we're going to put out out in Hart plaza. Hopefully, I mean, we're still eighteen months away or whatever that number is. And then they're gonna inside here. They're going to have the tracks. And we're going to make it work. We just gotta make sure it doesn't doesn't conflict with the chambers leadership conference. It won't it's it's right after the grand prix. So it'll be fine. And that's it'll come conflict put the the lilac festival. But that's all right. We have enough people that we can cover it. And I'm looking I'm looking forward to it. It should be a pretty pretty neat little thing that I that they're talking about. Yeah. I think we're bring a lot of people down here. That's for sure is this a good place for you to do business. Absolutely couple in the auto show. Yeah. We've been here since they opened Kobo. I know I know it helps you to have the stand right next to our broadcast booth. Absolutely. As you have all week long. It's that was a good move. Now, we have them spread we have about sixty and spread out all over so kind of cover the whole place. Yeah. Pudge that'll sugar roasted almonds back there, sediment, good. Those are very good. What's your best seller? I would say right now is turtles are bestseller. Bill. It's it's been. It's hard to pass it up. When you look at it in the in the counter, and you look at that big piece of fight with all the caramel and nuts. It up lots of chocolate that just you know, I don't know what else to say about it, except it's really really good. Hey, I gotta take a quick break in here. Okay. Learn more about the floods business and its role that every everybody visits the Riva's fudge stance at Cobo, and they'll be outdoors next year. More to come here.

He played a funeral director on Dexter. He played a murderer. I think you should continue with this backwards circle of life and for his next role play like a Dula. Or if it's guys at a dude LA. A doodad dude do dad I like that. Midterm elections are coming up you guys excited. Your opponent is AVI. Zakar men. You're a avid board game collector, and you've been playing the same board game with a group of friends for two years, and what kind of game is it? The user's way to describe it is you go hunt monsters, you harvest their body parts for weapons on the new more monsters. Yeah, sounds super fun when you ring in. We're going to hear this Lauren and AVI, whoever has more points after two games is going to go onto our final round. Now. This is a guessing game called bed ideas from the past Jonathan I will read multiple choice questions about things that people once thought were true here, we go. In the not so distant past people didn't understand how terrible cigarettes are for you. Which of these is a real camels ads slogan from the nineteen forties. "The wings and then four floors that's a lot of wallpaper to to put up in in it looks great and it's amazing how guests notice and they say you know something's different right but i can't what is it and then you pointed out and they're like oh wow looks great looks like it's should have been there for forever so we did that and then we added to new named rooms they didn't it's not new construction we took a guestroom three eighteen and three twenty and we converted those two named rooms and one is a pretty obvious one the lilac suite with the lilac festival going on right now this weekend ending the the lilac festival with the parade on sunday but obviously a purple room with some beautiful lavender colors and flowers and things and but then the other room really hits close to home for us it's the prenton brown sweeten in prentiss m brown we believe the only us senator representing the state of michigan that was from north of the mackinac bridge from the upper peninsula but more importantly he is the grandfather of dean muster the third wife marley and and you know i think family ownership and being how we do things here is a big part of who we are and what we're about in this suite more importantly not only a us senator but prentice and brown was the first chairman of the mackinac island bridges authority in he and mr woodville who is dean musters great uncle who was the first muster family member to own the hotel back in nineteen thirty three they're the two who really spearheaded getting the mackinac bridge built wow so that that room looks out over the mackinac bridge but one of the walls in the room has a mural of the bridge and it's really stunning and then it has artifacts from senator brown's personal library from being the us senator it has his desk that he had in his office and lots of things so i think that really is something that sets us apart that personal connection to the family that owns the hotel and it is really quite a remarkable guestroom it's so cool to know no.
