US job openings have already recovered two pre pandemic levels. So that's good news, right. We've got eight million fear Japanese economy, but there's something like 42% of company said they haven't least one open position that they can't fill, which would be the highest Level ever recorded 42% little closer to home here in Ohio. We can't find enough employees to meet the man. You know this because you see the signs all over. There's something like almost 200,000 unfilled jobs waiting right now. In Ohio alone. He's in Cincinnati for in demand jobs. We could be at the Hughes stand later this morning. I believe in that is Hi. Lieutenant Governor John Houston, John. Good morning. Great to be with you during in demand Jobs week. Yeah, so I was looking before you came out in Ohio means jobs dot com. That's the website. And there's something like 90,000 postings there that that is it. That's a crazy amount of jobs. Well, there's 180,000 overall openings over 92. Those jobs pay $50,000 more years. So these air not these are not bad jobs. These there's a lot of great jobs. And their jobs that literally you could get trained for them and less than a month, many of them and that's what we could do like you used to be. You think you ought to go away get a four year bachelor's degree. Not really any more out of high school. You go to your career center. You can get an industry credential and be ready to go to work for $2000 a year. Same thing with Cincinnati State. A lot of our two year institutions. They help you Ernest of history in District Essentials. That's what employers want. That's the entryway into the workforce. And that's an amazing number. Because if you you know all we hear about as well, you can't make it on $15 an hour last about 50 Grand's a lot more than 15 bucks an hour unless you're working, you know. 60 70 hours a week. Yeah, well, these and these air this is the foundation. You can learn to be in robotics maintenance. I mean, for example, you could. Anybody can learn to do these things you get certified. Then you get into program and then you just keep growing growing growing your ability, but you gotta start by having those basic industry credentials and, uh, some cases like a month or so you can get a credential. Yeah, absolutely month or left. There's some of them. That can even be done in a week, You know, but it's all across the board. We've got jobs intact. Everywhere, everything tech, but in construction, manufacturing the job. You're coming back. Ohio has a 4.7% unemployment rate compared to a 6% national level. That the impediment to our growth will be the lack of available workforce of you Have. You know if you're looking to change career path, you're looking to get started on a career. This is you know, these are the place. You could do it through your to your high school through your career centers. So your to your schools they have They have programs available for you Think they're ready to go. Lieutenant Governor, We just have a story in the news of Brian. The Kroger is introducing drone delivery that if you order something, a Kroger that weighs less than £5, they're there. They're already starting this. They're they're baiting it on that is getting a drone to fly. The I don't know, Six pack to you, or you might be. You're going to need people to fly the drones. And we actually have training programs that teach you how to do that in our career centers and community colleges in the state, So one I know right up the road at Sinclair Community College I visited is a great drone training program. You gotta fix those things. All of these skill. You know, these are the new kinds of jobs that are out there and available. They may sound highly technical, but literally they can. They can basically teach anybody to do it. What about me? I'm pretty dumb. You think that you know there's It's good to hear that these jobs pay 50 grand here. But if we what if you're a deadbeat idiot like me Well, you know what I don't have. I don't have a lot of technical skills either, Scott, but I can't even learn to do this. You could do this, But there is the one thing you gotta show up on time. You gotta be reliable working. Those are the foundational skills. Good work ethic. You have a good work ethic. They can teach you how to do all of these things that lead to great career Lieutenant Governor John Houston on Taco Loco, but in a second here, but he's in town for in demands job in demand jobs like theirs. 200,000 unfilled jobs in Ohio. It really is incredible that that high means jobs dot com This is kind of clearing house 90,000 plus postings. They're alone offer salaries of more than $50,000. But it takes a little bit of training. And a lot of these companies will pay you for it in the training, maybe short as little as a month a week Whatever. For a lot of these and demand jobs, but they are out there. But you know, the other part of this thing is this. John, You mentioned the impediments. I'd say One impediment is transportation because a lot of people, especially people of lower income level, social get it don't have rob transportation to get to work. I hear this all the time. That is a huge roads blocked for this. Well, look there situations that everybody faces. Transportation is one of them. But you know, in in Hamilton County, there is a public transit on. So you have those options in Appalachia. You have less access to those kinds of things. It makes it a little tougher. But But look at your local search Social service agency. Uh, you know you you go to the job centers. You got Ohio means jobs, and they actually have resource is to help you navigate those kinds of problems. So We're doing everything we can to get people to eliminate the barriers. We just call it eliminate the barriers in and if you have No. If you want to do this, if you want to get into the workforce there, there are three sources have to navigate all those challenges. The other impediment Lieutenant Governor John Hughes. Stead to employment would be this that the federal government, others paying employees not to return to work if you're getting a stimulus payment from the government on extended employment through a September Where's your impetus to find work? Isn't that part of the problem? Isn't it a big part of the problem? It's a huge part of the problem. There's no doubt that the business is air competing against the government for employees, particularly people who making, you know pain 15 to $25 an hour. You know you get this extra $300 a week if you stay on unemployment. Look, here's Here's what I propose Scott. It's pretty simple between now and June. Everybody has the opportunity get full of accident cannot use.

Ohio Lt. Governor Under Fire After Tweets on COVID-19 Origin
"Ohio Lieutenant Governor John Houston, taking a step back from a tweet that he retweeted regarding the origin of the coronavirus. Here's that Retweeted, a story in which a former head of the CDC said on CNN that he believes covert 19 originated in a lab in Wuhan, China. Used, it said in the Retweet, so it appears it was the Wuhan virus. After all, there were a lot of critical posts on Twitter about Houston's post. The lieutenant governor on Saturday posted another tweet in which he said he was referring to the Chinese government. A government, he said, is a government of oppression that imprisons people and steals our technology. He was referring to the government, he said, not Chinese people.

"Off today. Let me get Let me get a guy who could actually get that done that I think of it. Lieutenant Governor John Houston. Good morning. Are you sir? Good morning and doing great. What can you do about this problem? I'm not talking about broadband. We'll get to that in a second for all Ohio in a second. I wanna get all covert stuff. But what can you guys do their two State house to create a national? Well, maybe just a statewide holiday to start here the Monday after Super Bowl Sunday. Should be a holiday your thoughts. Well, especially if the Bangles or the Browns. Actually we're in the Super Bowl that I think I could swing that one with the Buccaneers beat. I don't know about that. Hey, good to have you back. Appreciate it before we get in the broadband stuff, which I think is really interesting in a long time. Coming. Um, Quick Cove, it update. I just saw this this morning in the UK there doing something like 1000 vaccines a minute there. Back here Stateside. We're struggling. Right? We have distribution points in Ohio, Not enough supply 9% of Ohioans who want them have gotten shots. Today. We're starting with 65 older, but they're still 80 year olds out there and and older who still don't have a shot? What's the holdup? Lack of supply. Every every dose of vaccine we have available gets distributed every week. It's just the lack of supply that comes from the manufacturers, which we you know every week that should be getting better. Madonna is announced to increase supply. Fizer has It looks like that Johnson and Johnson. Uh, vaccine works and will be approved. And so I would expect, although we don't have any control of this. That in the coming weeks will most well, Seymour but, uh, yeah, Look, every dose we get gets into somebody's arm. It's just a matter of Not having enough doses for all the people who want them right now, Although we hear stories about the percentage of doses we have versus the distribution of it has that gotten better in the last couple weeks. Yeah, it was like you. Have you have issues related to second doses that are being held back. Uh, we don't physically have them. They're being held it You know you want you vaccinate somebody who is in a nursing home, for example, You have to set aside the the some 0.2 2nd dose for them on. So we're you know those those air moving out? Uh, you know, and a good rate every like I said the best way to explain Is that every don't you know, we don't know how many doses we're going to get necessarily until The week before, But once they come in, um they're going out and getting people aren't a to last check to because as I understand, like in the U K where the 20,000 minute over there is, they realized the world thought organization realizes, like, you know what? Um, instead of holding back a vaccine for that second dose, we can get 75 80% efficacy with the first dose. We get rid all the first doses and that later and later date, okay, we could go back. And it's better that I guess the science is better to inoculate more people The first dose, then do one and then wait for them for weeks to come back with the second shot. Are we going to change? I mean, it's up to you. It's more the FDA. But is that in the works? I thought that was the best practice kind of I don't know if that's the best practice. Look, it's just like with any drug whatever the manufacturer and the who approve it. Tell you how to administer it. That's what you do. You don't you don't go and make your own rules up for how to do this. Will follow. Whatever the rules are on that. If they change, then we'll change accordingly. But as of right now Look, there's there's two things so their speed and then there's and then there's you know the of this issue of efficiency versus quality, meaning if you're really trying to save lives, and you need to get them in the were the oldest and the most help the most vulnerable if you do mass vaccination site That works at speed, but it doesn't if you don't get him out into the neighborhoods into the communities and the people who are most horrible, that better maybe don't have transportation don't have the ability to move around. You know they're the ones that are left behind. You gotta try to find that good mix of targeting for the right people and doing it faster. She can not what we're heading the right direction only like 2100 new covert cases, which is well below the 21 Day average. So at least with the trend line looks good right now, And I know that also one of the things we when we talked about Just like that. Lieutenant Governor John Houston eyes the one stop shopping website is looks like that's going to be online soon. Which is going to help a lot. Because right now, you know people in one zip don't have any access to vaccines. Can't can't find anywhere they have it on yet. Some other zip codes may be right around the corner up the street. They seemingly have a pretty good supply. So is that gonna help alleviate that problem? It should improve it. I don't know about alleviated because any time you have to blind supply and demand issues, and plus, you know the challenges a lot of times these facilities. They don't know how many vaccines they're going to get until You know, they can't open it up for signing people up for certain days until they know exactly what their allocation is going to be. And so they have. They have those issues as well. But yeah, look at the numbers. Cases, they're going down. The hospitalizations are plummeting, which which, to me indicates that that the vaccine works that it's you know, getting in the nursing homes and places like that, where the majority of our deaths have come from, has worked because you're just seeing fewer hospitalizations and Ultimately that will result in fewer deaths. And I would think that in the sun or a year from now, John Houston that we will be looking at this in the rear view mirror. It's feeling that way. I sure hope so. Uh, look, the vaccines work e think we're gonna We're gonna have this moment where we're going to transition having More people who want it. Then people would then vaccines we have available, but at some point in time when the case is start to go away, we get into younger populations. I think that maybe there's going to feel like there's a less of an urgency for people to get vaccinated and we don't have to keep saying Yeah, Look, everybody, everybody who's willing needs to get this done so that we can, you know, covert behind us. Yeah, or and manage it anyway, because it could be, you know, a bi annual vaccine you wind up getting, We don't know, but I'd rather have that than no vaccine. At this point..
