Read I thought before we talked about the book it would be nice just to have you read the opening chapter because I think it does a good job setting the stage so if you could do that for us. The bigger jacket one. The phone rang and Congressman Jack Fontaine's Inter Office. He slipped from the embrace of his newest intern and motion for her to stand by what is it? I lean he grounded his secretary. Told you know interruptions? I'm sorry Sir to Capitol Police. Officers. Are here they need to speak with you about what contain shovel papers on his desk covering one stat with the morning sedition of the Washington Post. The secretary hesitated fantine Belot Alley what the Hell's going on whether they want with me. A hard rep on his office door drowned out her response police are GONNA. Pointing to a desk in the corner of his office, he waited for the intern to sit down at the laptop. Then went to the door. He moved back to Capitol Police officer stepped into the room one handed him a sheet, a paper. Sorry to barge. In Congressman we need to talk to you. It might be better if we spoke in private officer plants that the intern. Fine Taint dismissed her. Come back later and with some research, I can use next time. The young intern read grabbed the laptop left the wrong. Now what's this about? Fontaine check the officer's badge officer Jenkins. The expression on Jenkins. Face signaled he'd rather be the dentist the answer firmly it's about that warrant I just handed you congressman you better read it Sir you waited hands at his side Fontaine reach for a pair of glasses and examine the warrant arrest. He exploded why the hell is this some kind of joke. Jenkins. Jenkins held his ground I'm afraid not congressman. My orders are to take you into custody and transport you to the central cellblock? You'll do no such thing I'm calling my lawyer. She'll straighten this out fontaine shove the warrant back. Jenkins. Jenkins partner step closer and stood behind him fingering the slap Jack Adams waste. Fontaine Buzzed Eileen get maxine. Hey, on the phone now. A deep red flush crept over Fontaine's round Brown face things in his neck protruded he rocked back and forth on his heels as he waited. When his found busty snatched a maxi barked he paused I mean with the helmet you talking about maxine Dan I just saw last night. Jenkins motion defined tank then handed back the warrant sir. You'd better read this again. Fantastic, took the paper and resident his knees gave way and he sat down hard on his Sofa you put his head in his hands. Jenkins took back the warrant, pulled a laminated card from his shirt pocket and read aloud from it. So you're you're under arrest for the murder of Angela Maxine Kincaid Aka? Mexican Jay you have the right to remain silent anything you say may be used against you fontaine sputtered and Jenkins grabbed him as he slumped to the floor. Jenkins turned to his partner get an ambience stat. He felt for a pulse in the congressman's wrist and tell them to hurry. All right. So we got a nice inciting incident there to to pull us into the story we've got South Carolina Congressman Jack Fontaine. As you say, he's in the frame accused and presumed guilty from the start maxine Kincaid is a lobbyist injects lover. She's murdered and her Georgetown home hours after he left her and suspicion runs. That he killed her now, the only reason mercy Johnson gets involved is because some relative of her Mama's right? The kind of connects her to this particular cases era. Yeah and so they get involved to talk about the supporting characters. She's got a providence estimator and. A couple of interns which she has a private investigator is one of her former clients did some time for bank robbery and she had promised when he came home, he should get a job and she did and. He's sort of the backbone of the office keeping everything. Laid and keeping all the other people who work there in line than she has to win insurance of law students and their of workers investigators, and that's her little staff. It's a small farm when the congressman businesses budgie greenhorns. And he's not very easy to get along with even though they're putting in a lot of an expense ended defending ham he's maintaining his arrogance throughout the book which adds some a conflict. I don't know. Did you ever? You aren't in the Public Defender Service for years? Did you ever have those kind of situations with class where they didn't trust you necessarily or give you a lot of I? Mean you know in some respects, their lives are in your hands and yet they're pushing back to that happened you're. Not often thank goodness, but they're always typical clans. Again matters whether they're paying you are the courts paying you there. Some people and and part of it I guess is custody scared by the circumstances therion that oh? Yeah difficult. So you wrote five books in the series just talk a little bit about the arc of the series you started out This one didn't have as much courtroom drama in it. There a lot of things that took place outside the courtroom. But did some of the other books have more courtroom seines and source talk about that and and the Ark of mercy from the beginning to the fifth book. I look starts out with Marcy and court and she's held in contempt. The judge tells her to pay hundred dollars on the spot and she ends in two hundred because she knows it's only GonNa get worse and the second book is sleepy time That one is not set in DC actually at set in prison In another state, she's helping a prisoner who's wrongly accused. The third one is two wrongs and.

"Can can read so i. If you're listening to this podcast for awhile you know that I went bonkers devouring all of Sarah J mosses books and she has a new book out called Crescent City. So I dropped everything and I got it but I can't get into it and I. I do think I have been able to listen to audiobooks when I've gone on walks or have been like doing dishes and stuff and I think that might be a little bit easier for me to handle right now so audio books are working but like actual hard copies of books. I'm just for some reason can't do right now. Which is sad. Let's look books for my favorite escape so kate. I also have been feeling this and I feel like I've been seeing the sentiment a lot. Online people are just being like. I can't. I cannot focus on a book but that is a good reminder for me to plug our partnership with Libro Dot. Fm which I think is such a cool company. They excited about this. You can they make it possible for you to buy audiobooks through your local bookstore. Which is leashes always important and especially right now so vital. Yeah and so every time. A purchases made or you. You are charged for a monthly membership. Your local bookstore receives half the Libro prophets and you can just. They have like a thing where you can just choose the bookstore. You WanNa you WANNA buy stuff from and so we have this deal with them. Where if you use the code forever. Thirty-five or you visit Libro DOT FM slash redeem slash forever. Thirty five which we will put in the show notes. You can get three audiobooks for the price of one so you start a monthly membership. You pay fourteen ninety nine for three audiobook credits. They don't expire And Yeah it's very cool so if you're hopping on that AUDIOBOOK TRAIN. I highly recommend Lieber Dot F. at true chewed or I am hopping on the train. I WANNA give a shout to the audiobook that I've been listening to. Is The book shop on the Corner? Okay Buddy when it's just too cozy book about Cozy Book spaces media. I'll give it a shot. It's very. It's it's very snugly. I'm really enjoying it. Snugly book the other thing that has kind of helped me is that I finally set up a Home Office so I can work and podcast and that has been very nice to have an actual spot for my computer to live. That feels like my little my own little space. Good because you and your husband usually share an office right we do. We have a big work table that in our garage where we both kind of sit and work but because he has to be on line all day on a zoom. I needed another another place to go. Now hold on one second. I'm GONNA pause because I've got a seven year old friend here who needs help on an IPAD? Hold on one second so anyway. Dory I was able to set up a little corner in my a bedroom. That is now my home. Awful also my Home Office and it just feels really nice. Oh that's so nice. What had been in that corner a pile of dirty clothes it was it was like unused corner totally unused. I was using it to dump things literally just a little slice of wall and I have now. I have a little tiny desk and a lamp and my computer is here away recorder And also I think I've mentioned before I'm sitting on a pretty dinky plastic chair that we had in our garage. So I've added my pillow to it and many people were questioning what the pillow was when I posted a photo on instagram. So I'm going to try to find something. I don't have had it for years but I do think right now is we are working from home but pillows are very crucial part of but care and self care so I will try to find the link to something similar or if I can find the exact thing I will but get yourself a but pillow. Everybody's in the people need to know what Kate Spencer's but pillow is. It's almost memory foam and I have to say I squish pretty flat like I might need to figure out another like adding another cushion underneath but I just think it is so important to have something to sit on. Especially if you've got lower back pain or tight hamstrings or what we think. I mean I should obviously get a pillow. But you're making me think I should get my husband but pillow. He does the backpack. He does have lower back pain. Yes definitely especially like I have been to your house so I know he has some pretty good ergonomics chairs but right now I am sitting in like a ten dollar plastic. I- KIA chair. That has list. I Love Ikea but it does not have any support so I know as people work for home. We're all in different situations so yes especially if there's no ergonomics stuff but above pillow even for the most ergonomics chair. It's only gonNA make it more comfortable. You have sold me. I'll send you the house find on my list of things to do today. I'M GONNA add five figure out what pillow this is. I can't wait to include in the podcast show notes and also send a story to get that done and thank you. Thank you so much well. Lori. Yes should we take a quick pause? Let's do that because then when we come back. We're talking to the very cool. Ag of the Muller. She wrote podcast. And I do want to mention before we get to the interview that we do discuss sexual assault on a couple of occasions in our conversation with H. E. So if that's not something you want to listen to. You can skip ahead about twenty twenty five minutes to get to the intentions all right. We will be right back..

"We are podcast. I I just haven't known what to do about all of this and was in a wait and see and I was stuck in La and then had to drive and get all the way to. Wisconsin been brainstorming solutions and wasn't sure but all my take on. It wasn't the best way to approach. This was and didn't want to have the same information that everyone's hearing everyone everywhere else and so we're we're going to be doing exploring a lot of different topics and I'll be releasing I've been I've been scheduling a whole bunch. I already at the time that I'm recording. This which is a a Sunday night. I have I think four lined up for the week which we're tried to release immediately Just trying to get everything in place to see if I can get the team up to speed and grinding away on editing and getting everything done I do ask for your patience in about the audio and video quality has never done a remote podcasts. Until now and we're trying out a few different methods of doing that and a balance between making things easy for my guests and what the highest quality is so. If you have any tips or suggestions yourself let us know. We're we're exploring a lot of different options but So bear with us through that each episode hopefully be improving in in quality A bit as as we learn as we go and Hopefully this'll be You know a pretty Smooth running High Quality Product and and In a week or two is the plan. And so so yeah. I'm putting them on Youtube going to start doing Video podcasts so that's one added advantage to doing knees you're GONNA start getting to see Getting to see me and my guests and getting to see our body language and facial expressions and that sort of thing and I just never realised why people would put podcasts on Youtube and then I realized most people don't watch TV. The way that I do I don't watch TV that often in when I watch it. I am focused. I want zero distractions. I WANNA get every line but then it occurred to me that a lot of people just have the TV on in the background and their cooking and doing things around the house and podcasts are great for that. You don't have to watch every second you can just be listening and And pop up from time to time and so So opportunity there that. I hadn't realized something that I was. Depriving you guys It also adds layers of complication and costs on my end and everything else but I think it will ultimately This this will only make for a better podcast in an even when things do. Go back to Whatever the new normal is going to be an UN- quarantined state I will hopefully have learned a lot from all of this experience in and it will only have made the podcast better. I think this is a this is Find time for people to start getting into appreciating Science and so I'm I'm excited to be talking with With a bunch of different people from a bunch of different fields and giving you guys a bunch of new perspectives. That you don't hear over and over and over again on on the news and some some things to think about for the future as things continue to transition and the human condition Potentially changes really dramatically. So I appreciate your continued support if you want to if you want to Support the show and the staff that I have working for this which I pay off of my ninety. Five percent live touring income which has completely gone away. You can do things like go to Libro dot. Fm and You can put in offer code here. We are to try the first three months for the price of one. That one month will go to me. It's a good way of getting audio book. Starting an audio book routine in your life and then in addition to that You will be supporting your local independent bookstore with Libro dot. Fm They are the only audio book company that you actually get to pick your bookstore your independent bookstore which you know is going to be Going through hard times Like a lot of businesses and fifty percent of the Prophets go are split Go to the independent bookstores downloaded through the bookstore of your choice. It's all tracked that way and So it's a good way to support your community as well I couldn't encourage it enough in And a time like this when you have downtime and it can be Taking in taken more books and content So check that out if you like and again. Sorry if the audio isn't Isn't up to up to snuff Up to the usual standards A big part of why I've done all of mine in person is because I have a top of the line equipment that I've been using to try to get the very best quality for you guys but In this in in these circumstances Some compromises are are made a little bit so bear with me there and I I'll continue to work toward improving it. This conversation is absolutely fantastic. And this book. We're going to hear about objection Discussed Morality and and the law is one of my favorite science books out there. I I'm not just saying that. I have I've I've Read at all and I've listened to an audio book as well. There's very few times in my life that I've I've found the time to read. Read a book twice but this is this is one of the few. So you're going to enjoy this episode and thank you so much for your support and tuning in. I hope that you can Leave some comments. One free thing you can do is leave some comments on Youtube. Give some likes to some shares stuff like that. This is all brand new to me so So if I can start getting some youtube views and getting that circulated that would help me out a bunch of starting from nothing in terms of that right now. I haven't really cared that much about having having a big digital presence in the past. So that's what you can do to help out your old buddy. Shane and And with that. Enjoy today's episode. Yes where are we here? Why are we here? Not entirely clear. We are misfits.

"Everybody. Welcome to the show today. We're gonna be talking about depression, and just FYI. I I've been working hard this year to get ahead. There's been times in the show that I've missed weeks. There's been times. I'm recording the episode like the day it needs to be coming out and frantically having to rush things, and I've, I've really loved doing this podcast and I want to do more of them. So I've been really pushing myself this year to, to really get ahead. And because of that some of these episodes, many of these episodes, you're hearing months after they were recorded. And so I remember at the time. I don't remember exactly where I was out like my head space may share in the episode. I can't listen back to myself guys who you would think you would think fifteen years into doing comedy in the podcast. Stick and stuff. And having to be forced to listen to yourself for various projects, and editing. Things in this and that you would you'd think that I'd be used to the sound of my voice, but my goodness. No fun. Not into it. Should this back to these absolutely should don't wanna? So I may mention it. But I think I was at the time pretty as I had about the worst depression. I've had in, in a while I had, like nine good months, and then I had been in this horrible seasonal depression in the winter, and this was recorded, I think I was kind of like on my way out. I was still really depressed but I was like, showing little improvements at the time missus record says it was kind of, like handy that, that was able to be recorded at that time I thought I'd give you a little context and thought I'd let you know, you might be avid here. I have been doing real well lately. I've been super happy. I Ben taken really good care myself, I van getting so into yoga guys. Oh man I'm way into yoga and rock climbing, and they really lend. Themselves well to one another and really interesting in terms of just the creative boost the mindfulness. I feel like I'm getting I, I like meditating, and I, I believe in meditating, and I don't always stay on top of it. And sometimes I go in streaks and I think it's fairly useful and beneficial and everything else. But I find it to be more challenging and frustrating then in yoga's I'm getting more used to it. I I'm like, oh, this is how meditating as supposed to feel and this is what it's supposed to be like, and I've just been so. Yeah, man, I and I, I love summertime so much going to avoid can avoid winters. I'm going to switch my tours around hopefully standup science continues to do well. Or, or the hope is that it will keep increasing in popularity as traveling back to cities, but. Go to the south for the, the summertime to avoid all of that, seasonal depression stuff. See if see if that will help isolate some of the root cause of what's gone on with some of my mental health stuff and just wanting to be a more balanced person, and everything. But so so that's been going well. And then I just feel like things have just been clicking. I went through a break up and it's been like a really good kind of self exploration, transformative, I I'm not being single is not a normal on the serial monogamous guy who can't seem to escape getting himself in into these long relationships as I'll get an everything. I just, I just don't have many times in my life where I'm single and just a countable for myself and planning my own schedule. And I've been enjoying that and then these part. Ownerships with Libro dot F M. I've been trying to get an audio book partnership for years. I don't know how I hadn't worked one out earlier than this. But, you know, it's the fortunate thing is I found a company that he is even better than once that I was hoping to pair with Libro dot FM is a grace, grassroots organization, which as a grassroots kind of guy, I'm all about. And it's a way of supporting your local independent. Bookstores your downloads are coming through the independent bookstore of your choice in there, getting the share in the profits, because I wanna live in a world where bookstores where these little independent bookstores still exist. And so it's a way of supporting that well listening to audio books, audiobooks absolutely have changed my life. I been listening to audio books for, like, I don't know eight to ten years, or something like that. I love audiobooks. I, I listened to way more audio books and regular books. If you're into regular books, not audiobooks good for you for reading in. Whatever way that you do it go books..

"To the here. We are podcast part two episode. Stop right now if you haven't listened to part, one is real good, so good. In fact, and I think he agree if you listen to it, right. I certainly loved the conversation so much that I came back the following day and had this talk that you're about to hear. So I think you're really going to like it, even if you like it and fraction as much as I did, what terroristic conversation guys. I got a Cincinnati coming up June first for stand up science, and as well as in toward the end of June, cedar falls denial than Wichita Oklahoma City, Kansas City, Omaha. And in the City, Missouri, by the way, all in July maybe doing a couple other mid west things. Summer can be brutal for comedy. So I don't wanna risk doing too many shows and end up losing money on them or something. But I don't know might be a good time for standup science. We'll find out this would be a good sample. So guys, I wanna thank you so much because I have been getting emails from many of you for venue suggestions for stand up science as I said, I've been looking for around one hundred fifty seat venues, anywhere in the country. I'm going to be plan is given travel around doing standup science everywhere. I am super excited about the idea. It's going to take a lot of work in one of the work, one of the things that is difficult is finding good venues of things of I've get a hold of local comics everywhere, and, and, and stuff like that. And I have established a lot of relationships. In the past, but there's a lot of cities. I've never been to that are that have good colleges and everywhere else. Really songs there's a college that I can get scientists from it doesn't necessarily even need to be the biggest college in the world or anything like that. And it's not too crazy small of a city. I mean, I did sonoma's with the show not too long. I think that's like ten thousand probably less than that. And so, you know, I do I do small towns here and there as well. And I, I like doing those areas too, and but anyway, I put out a request for you guys to Email me go to the here. We are podcast dot com website and, and there's a contact page and suggestions have been coming in from you guys. I've been forwarding them along to my manager. I hope I wrote you back to thank you. But I've been getting all of them have been sending them along. And, and I've been impressed and surprised by by the amount of feedback really encouraging because one it's super helpful into just how much interest, you, you guys have and. And, and seeing the show end, and help me out. And I'm real excited about that. We, we always, you know all all these podcasts. I'm sure this isn't the only podcast you listen to. If it is, don't, don't listen to other ones guys, this is the only one worthwhile. But, you know you listen to other podcasts in every comic every radio. You know, we're all trying to get yet at do it thing, and it's you know certainly helps us all out when you leave reviews and. Help us promote the shows and follow us on the social media Instagram and Twitter and Facebook and all that. And it's all incredibly helpful and, you know, a lot of times we were asking you to do stuff like that. And. Yeah. Comes up short a little bit analogy of a. Start a new relationship partner, like the, the Libro dot FM partnership is, is off got some subscribers rolling in offer coat here we are podcast. And it's a great partnership, no matter what. But there hasn't been like tons of people signing up just yet. Thank you guys. Miss an audio books are awesome. But, you know, or you try to get more reviews from people and you get like one among them, you just you wish you got more. But I've, I'm also human. I'm also consumer. I don't leave reviews at every thing I've, I've don't fully support every single artist in person and TV show and everything that I'm into as much as I probably could it's probably a good reminder for me to do more of that. And, and we all only have so much time we only have so much to give necessarily and, and so I get it, and I say all that not, not complaining, but to, to say thank you so much. Because the, the, the responses that I have gotten in my requests for venues for stand up science has at least matched if not exceeded my. Expectations and please, please keep them coming in. I am we have a whole Google map with all these gestures pinned, it's gonna take a long time to figure out their outing and establish some these deals and, and everything else, it's all going to take time. I'm not going to be in your city you semi venue. I'm not going to be there two weeks. It'll take awhile, maybe won't even be till next year. Who knows? But I am trying to line up a huge fall tour and get to as many places as I can instill. That is really, really helpful. So thank you so much for doing that. Any ideas that you have again, a little little theaters. We're looking at a like one hundred two hundred fifty seats, depending on the venue up to up to three hundred people, but really about one fifty I would say is the optimal. Size. My, my hope is always to sell out every show. I rather do one fifty venue and sell it out. Then have two hundred people at a three hundred seat venue. I just as just a different vibe, and everyone gets excited and, and, and then people plan ahead. And by presale tickets more the next time, which saves me, tons and marketing, and I can, if I if I know the rooms are going to be full that, that just creates a lot of opportunity for me. So looking at about one fifty four that kind of vibe small theater, like a side Ramona brewery, but even like there's a lot of cool Indy spaces music venues out there. Cool community theaters improv spaces, stuff like that. Some traditional comedy clubs do work on off nights. My main thing. I don't want people expecting one hundred percent comedy show. It's two comics in two. Scientists on each show half comedy half science to scientists giving to science talks. I don't want someone like sitting there, what's going on. Why aren't their punch lines because 'cause they're in a comedy club in? And that's what they thought the whole show was was going to be in now. They're freaking out because they have to learn something for twelve minutes. That is not what I'm trying to grow and build here. I want something for us for people that listen to this podcast. Like some humor like some learning and some more higher elevated content along the way. So thank you guys for that in keep them coming and enjoy today's episode. Yes, we're we here. "Next week on the podcast is part two. So I hope you enjoyed this one, because next week it's going to be an even more in depth conversation built on the conversation. You just heard. I thought this was absolutely terrific. I'm sure you agree. And I have an exciting and nouncement that I should be making in June. Not whatever it's not even confirmed. I shouldn't even mention it. But I'm trying to line up more partnerships. That makes sense with the scope of the show, and I have a lead on kind of education, based company that I may be working with to be a really good fit for the show. In addition to Libro dot F, M offer code here, we are to get three months for the price of one and that fourteen ninety nine goes to me after that everything gets split with your local bookstore, your get it. You're actually. Downloading the books from your local bookstore. You're supporting your indie bookstore. So it's a really cool. Great thing same catalog as every other audiobook company out there. Same price and everything, but you're able to support your local bookstore, and I've already worked on lining up some bookstore shows which will be a perfect venue for stand up science. So it's the way that you can support me. Well, taking in something wonderful like an audio book of your choice. I'm trying to establish more partnerships like this that are in line with the scope and vision of the show, Stitcher has been a really good one. Because with the Stitcher premium membership, you are able to go on in get the show ad free. And you can also go and get the full catalog from the show. They have exclusive access to the full catalog of the here, we are podcast, any episode older than six months is. Only available on there. And I'm I'm tryin guys, I, I've, you know, through I never wanted ads on the show in a surly in the first place, and then I ran out of funds to support this podcast. And I've had to make some compromise to keep the lights on an old Shane moss enterprises. And so trying to get it figured out to just be supporting in working with companies that really fit the scope of the show. I'm not one hundred percent there just yet probably shouldn't even be saying that, but I bought Libro dot FM is a big step in the right direction for me, and I think I have another big player in the kind of education business getting lined up for June. So really looking forward to that. And then another great partner. Mike, go meditations. I think we're going to do a comfort retreat. It's like another five hundred dollars. For the retreat, but it is well worth it. I have experienced all of the other retreats in the comfort retreat was by far the best one and we're looking at it's going to be January. Eighteenth through twenty fifth of two thousand twenty now's the time to start thinking about that, right me, if you are interested, it's you get three suicide mushroom, trips included with the it's an all inclusive package all the food all the combinations, everything, other than the flight, and it is an awesome way to meet new like minded people, you know, people that listen to this podcast and tell people going there to have a good time to better themselves to have a new experience and it's better than any vacation, that you'll you'll ever take you could. Take a trip to a Caribbean paradise on your own, and it would be the same price or maybe more and it wouldn't be with me and a bunch of other awesome people, and it wouldn't include mushrooms, and professional trip sitters. And that sort of thing, I don't know why you would do that. But I guess you could go to like a Margarita Ville, or or where ever. But anyway, if you want to have a untraditional vacation, a trip to a Caribbean paradise and the trip inside of your mind at the same time and also get to make some new friends along the way that keep up with one another and I always see these guys in group chats and meeting up with people outside of this. It's a great way to take a vacation. If you ask me and. And so, yeah, I hope you'll you'll look into that and write me if you have any questions in those of you that listen all the way to the end you are. Of course my favorites.

"Christopher who had played Prue. I know all my gosh. Well, you'll have to listeners, you're gonna have to read Martin books to here to kinda get on the inside of what we're talking about. But the potting shed mysteries and birds of a feather are digital only book. Yes, they are and audio and audio K. And so they're valuable on all all independent or why recognizable digital best. Right. Okay. And there's, there's obviously Amazon and Barnes and noble, and we like to send people to Powell's books, but there's also independent bookstores now have work with a company that does audio books and I think it's called Libro dot FM. Okay. And then there's also like an indie book platform for downloading digital chew on your kindle, or you're you're smart pad. Whatever it is. Okay. So we've, we've talked for years about this dilemma, like, okay, you're famous author. How do you do a book signing with a digital book? I wanna know what? You do. And then I wanna talk about how that's changing for you, as we kind of wrap things up. Well, there people have tried over the years various ways to get an e book autographed and act, alibi did pair with some company at one point that we were supposed to do it. Didn't work then imprint alibi. It is random battering, right? Okay. And so when I. And live someplace, I can't for instance I go to mystery fan conventions. And so they have a program and there's my name in my picture under the authors appearing at this convention. So I can sign that, but I can't sign a great rate, but you do all kinds of fun events with these other other mystery writers, and you create experiences for people and they get to know about you and your books definite. And so do have a calendar of those events on your website, air, all on my website. Okay. Okay, mardi win. Get dot com and we will also share links Jones deaf to that site as well as maybe some book covers and pictures of you and all your social places. So something really exciting happened last year. And that is your third series. Can you tell us this news? I if it's great news. I worked with my agent at hand. She's, she's my third agent. That is not my fault. Backstory there but she's fabulous. And she suggested that, if I had an idea for a third series that might be a good time to shop it around to other publishers, who would be print publishers, as well as books and so I did. And we worked out this idea that I had thought about and proposed it and got a great deal with Berkley prime crime, which is one of the best murder. Surround John, right? Yeah. I'm looking. "Did I tell you guys that was going to be a good episode or what does sell fantastic, I often? I do wonder how much my impression of how. Well, an episode went goes with what you guys say. Because sometimes I've had up associates that I think that I maybe not my strongest up Assode, I'm even like a little bit nervous about putting them out. And then I'll get all this positive feedback. And I'll put out some that. I think are just like these mind-blowing episodes, and I don't really hear a whole not that I hear anything negative. But I just I just don't hear kind of the same positive responses that I would expect to. But I think that I usually I'm pretty in line with you guys. And I know when things went really, well, I have another fantastic one next week is actually maybe they're not say the best. But certainly one of the best. Standup science guests that I've ever had in Raleigh. If you're one of the people that happened to be at the rally show Herman Pont sur was there. And holy crap. Many is such a good guest on this podcast is I I should write down right afterwards. But we talk about because I don't even fully remember all of the conversation. We talked a lot about evolution about locomotion about kind of standing upright. How the human how humans if all to metabolize things differently? How that shaped our evolution and me, not only is it an interesting topic. But just one of these people that dislike abbey who's who? You just heard. It's just like awesome presenter and just lots of fun to talk to as well. So tune in next week four that get your audio book fix in at Libro dot F M use offer code here. We are to get three months for the price of Juan. And that that fourteen ninety nine goes to me, your friend. Shane moss helps me out helps me trying to buy a van guys trying to figure it out. I I mean van living. It's I've been trim. You may have heard me talking about this on like I remember talking about it with Duncan trussell years ago. Maybe referencing out on on this podcast. I got rid of my car years ago. I gave away my car. I thought like I was gonna like buy a van gave away my car, and then like immediately everything fell out from under me at the time. And and I had some financial situations happen very unexpectedly. So anyway, that's where your money's going to in case, you think I'm just blowing it on coke. Cain, and trampolines or some. I don't know. I don't know what people less you'd think I'm like buying a mansion or something like that with this money. I'm I'm just I just want to be out there to ring in doing my shows, and that will really help me out and helped me make a living and be able to two or more on the road and focus more on science communication. So go to Libro dot FM offer code here. We are in your supporting your local bookstore by doing it. You get to there's a whole list of all although local bookstores that they work with and every state you can pick one you're supporting them every time you download a book. So check them out checkout. Second onyx comics exploration of psychedelics and stand up science update the site still working on July around like the central time zone. You know, kinda mid west area. Figuring out exactly the routing and stuff. It should be really starting to add those dates shall is going to. Up in a hurry UK dates coming soon. Some pretty cool conferences that. It sounds like I'm doing fingers crossed. I'm doing that. And maybe lineup some standup science maybe lineup. I never did a good trip in the UK at all maybe lining up a little tour with a good trip show. I don't know still trying to figure all that out that might even extended maybe even September or something like that. If if everything goes really, well still trying to make connections over there and figure out venues, and that sort of thing. So that's everything that I've had going on. I'm sure I'm I'm missing a lot of things like Stitcher. If you go to Stitcher premium, by the way, I don't like have to be saying this just information for you guys because the arrangement that I have with Stitcher, any episodes older than six months are only available on Stitcher. But in addition to that to be. Being able to get my whole back catalogue. You get all the episodes ad free. So no interruptions in the middle of the episode when you have Stitcher premium, and yeah, those of you that listen all the way to the end, you are, of course favorites.

"Hey, guys, I have some announcements to make I have a new partnership with the podcast that I'm very excited about I have some changes with stand up science that are related to the partnership and hoping to get more places soon. And I also have some life stuff happen that may be over sharing it, I'll share it. Anyway, who is that in Tyson? Are you excited? I know my editor tells me not to make a big long intro thing. Because people are listening for the first time in like, oh my gosh. Is it always this big long thing? When does it get to the show, and that turns off a potential new listener, vary, understandable, great advice, not taking it today? Because I just want people to know what I have gone. So I've had since I started since I broke down and started doing ads on the show. You know, I I haven't necessarily got. My choice to pick. And choose exactly what I'm selling all the time. And you know, trying to legitimize this podcast Marin, I had tried tried to go ad free for so many years and dumped my own money into this. But if I really want this to be something, it's just the eventual the inevitability podcasts if we want to make money off them got to sell stuff. It's not the most glamorous part of the job. But I was like, well, I wanna have good partnerships with people, and I've tried a few in the past some of them worked out like Michael meditation. Some of them have not worked out and and won't name the ones that haven't worked out. But they, you know, it's been interesting in fun. And it's kind of a I'm not a business guy. You know, I consider myself an artiste guests, and I like putting out this content. And so, you know, I I always wanted to do some. Something that'd be really relevant to the show and something that I really believed in and I've been trying to get on audio book company on board with this podcast forever. Because we're always talking about audio books on the show. I'm always listening to audio books. Like right now, I'm finishing Steven pinker 's enlightenment now fantastic highly recommend it. You know? I have guests on the show that have their own books. And I listen to their audio books books. A lot of time on the show. I love audio books. Listen audiobooks more than I read. So I I found this company. So I I was reaching out for potential guests for stand up science. And I've found I got in contact with this the scientists publisher, and let them know what is going on what I had going on. And then he told me about his company Libro F M. So what Libro FM is an off. Book company and long story short. It's just it's it's the exact same as the same price in catalog and everything as as your typical works the same as any of the typical like big name audio book companies out there. How ever what's really cool about Libro F M, Libro dot FM is that they work with your local bookstores, and so there's a list of local bookstores, and you can pick your local one there's hundreds all over the country, and you can pick the one that's in your city, your state, whatever, and you can support them in the audio book is kind of goes through them. So they get a cut, and it's a way of doing the same thing that you'll be doing on other audiobook apps, but supporting your local bookstore at the same time. And what is interesting about that is they have all these relationships and. Partnerships with all of these local indie bookstores and so put ten we're going to try this. Who knows if any of this is going to go anywhere? I don't know. I'm I'm really optimistic about it. I try not to get my hopes up about about things anymore. And and until after things have been I try not to count my chickens. I've a long history of of doing that. But they have these relationships. It's all these bookstores in some of them are these great potential venues for stand up science. So they also have these connections with all these local bookstore. So I can potentially do stand up science in cooler venues in more cities in more areas in so it's just something that makes total sense for me. It's a Libro dot F M in then you just enter the offer code here. We are in.

"Film? Obviously, maybe this is a solution. I have two related questions, and I do too. I just want to say that. I don't think you're thinking big enough in terms of your Instagram. Like, you could dress up your kindle, you know, what I mean like you could put little on it and a mustache goodly is like our. You just didn't think bigger like came into that. All right. Yeah. All right, Jen. So one of our listeners our discord server Chad asked if it's cheating to listen to audio books at double speed. I think you do you anything that helps you read more is like a I'm here for and sometimes the author or whoever's reading it reads release low. So like, I'm I'm known the bump it up to like one point two five every now, and then I would not recommend bumping up this podcast because my voice will be insisted. As someone who occasionally edits this podcast at one point two five speed. I can confirm that you're now Tammy you have said that audio books are not cheating, and whatever gets people in Katie. I don't wanna put words in your mouth. And maybe you agree philosophically, but there are only certain kinds of digital retailers who can distribute audio book. So if I choose to buy the audio book than I'm not shopping at your store, would what are your thoughts? Okay. Let me let me to pin on this. There is an audio book company called Libro dot FM that works with independent bookstores. So you can go to Indy bookstores website and buy your audio book through them through Libro that supports your local indie if that's what you're into and the prices are reasonable. I have like a monthly membership. So I pay monthly fee like it might audiobook of choice for the month in often. That's how I listen to like. The big new releases that I want to be able to talk about at work, but Libro FM as a really great resource. If you're looking to still support independent bookstores with your audio book purchases.
