"Get in Arbor and you know the and other places where the facilities have been able to get licensed. You Know I. I appreciate the fact that some cities may or may not want this but we all have to follow the statute. I think one of the more frustrating things is that when we were all under the Medical Marijuana Act which still exists by the way but under the medical marijuana at over and over again. It was argued by people in the cannabis industry. That where the cannabis space. I guess. At that time that the intention of the act was to be able to make cannabis businesses. Were you no intention of the act was for a caregiver to be able to assist as many patients as they wanted to with their us and there were all sorts of representations from people who helped draft and and get that law passed right and all we ever heard from reports from you know was look this is what the statutory language says we have to stick to the Statute. It is incredibly frustrating for these same businesses who are now legal licensed law-abiding abiding tax paying businesses to hear. Well we know that's what the statute says but we're not GONNA do that. So your lawsuit seeks obviously to you know a a ruling that the the emergency rules are invalid right but would also result in these your your plaintiffs be becoming licensed for adult use recreational marijuana retail sales crack. I mean again. We're not trying to validate all of the wolves and frankly the emergency rules. We'll be sunsetting very soon and we have new joint permanent roles that are currently being drafted. The public comment on those just closed. Monday It would follow that if we are successful in getting These rule the rule governing the licensing of these businesses which falls under section nine of the statute. This part of the rule invalidated that that the state would have to issue the licenses at that point. You said your complaint the more than three hundred municipalities around. The state have yet to enact ordinances either opt in or opt out of recreational marijuana. Sales are there other similar lawsuits to this one of floating around out there in the state not not to my knowledge. I feel like I. You know the marijuana laws section is a big but it's fairly closely knit. I think I would have heard about already the Attorneys in the industry Talk quite a bit collaborate quite a bit the plaintiffs that we're representing in in this action are not just our plaintiffs. They are clients their clients of other attorneys around the state I don't know if anybody else is thinking about this or or not not sure what I fear happened or could still happen is that an attorney could read these rules and say look and. I'm sure that has happened because I've heard I've heard those talks attorney could read these rules until their client worlds just not worth it. The entire point of the murder of prop one was for it to be worth it You'll see in the in the complaint I think the words unreasonably impracticable. It's kind of quirky little phrase but you can't according to the statute create rules that are unreasonably impracticable. That means you can't create rules. That would make it so difficult to get a license that no one's going to bother you know in lay terms and I fear that that has already happened all over the state in areas where the municipality truly is neutral but you don't WanNa take that financial risk especially when these businesses are already so expensive to open it outright. Denise Police Chela is the attorney representing eleven dispensaries marijuana businesses in Detroit and traverse city. Denise thanks for Your Time Today thank you for having me. We should note that the Detroit City Council has enacted a temporary ban on recreational marijuana businesses through March. Thirty first they're working on an ordinance designed to make it easier for city residents to get in on the recreational cannabis industry. There's progress on Lynn Avenue in Ferndale when it comes to Ferndale tap formerly known as Axel Brewing. If you remember the space was bought out by Eastern Market Brewing Company in the wake of the end of Axel now after some months of work what is now. Ferndale to apple open to serve beer this very Saturday. They'll have more than a dozen beards of various kinds available. Three ciders a house made root beer and nitro cold brew. This will be on top of their one service. They've piloted over the last few weeks with sandwiches and pastries. We'll put a link to their stuff in the show notes. Then this is literally downfield street from you. Are you excited about this one? Yeah for sure man Like walking distance. I mean it's a beautiful facility. There I was sad to see it close gorgeous but I'm really excited to see it reopened under eastern market brewing. Which has I've only tried a couple of their beers. "Here's other thing. Look LeBron is seventh in the league. Among active players in games played. Here's the six ahead of him. Dirk Vince Carter Jamal Crawford. Joe johnson. Tony Parker and powder. Saw Jones is still in the lead. The he's nowhere bitch. I get and then rounding out the top ten after LeBron cow core for Tyson Chandler Zach Randolph, none of them are even closer to the end of their prime. Like, none of them. We've been saying there at the tail in. They're all old and essentially done you have to go all the way down to find a player in the active leaders in games, whose you might say is toward the end of his prime or still in his prime. You have to go down to twenty. Second Chris Paul and lamarcus Aldridge and LeBron is played two hundred and thirty more games than those two guys. So I'm just saying like what he's if he got old tomorrow in their next game whenever it is. And never was the same. He's had beyond the full career. Like, it wouldn't be unprecedented would be normal. And so like skip you brought up he's not immortal. That's what we're judging him or we're still judging him on that standard ever missed the game ever. Yeah. He's not more than two all back injury. So I think that that's what Wade is looking at it. He makes the point because he sees he came in the same draft. Lebron Libranoy he's older, but he memo already gone gone gone by retired at that wasn't all by his dress militants. You've never been. My turn. Is the aging a little bit? Yes. He is is the a little more ground bound than it used to be. Yes, he is is he not quite as explosively quick as he used to be. He's not. But he's still very good. He's still neck and neck best player on the planet. When this season started. It was very close. But I think most people would have sided with you. He's the best player on the planet or they say that now I'm not so sure a lot of people might have changed over the last month or two. But here's my problem. This is where Dwayne and everyone else gives LeBron a pass when this team started this season. I wasn't sure what to expect because we were all just guessing because it got thrown together. And it was a mishmash of weird personalities and weird skill sets. And yet for those. I all the web to Christmas. I thought they were really good. I was shocked by how good they were. And yet they got to twenty and fourteen by winning. At Golden State on Christmas day when LeBron went down twenty and fourteen and I'm going to say this. I don't wanna give it up because LeBron doesn't deserve a pass for this because he was healthy, and they were helping but through those first thirty four games there were eight games that were winnable that I'm not gonna blame him completely. But that they should have closed. They were right there. And I'm going to list real quickly the opener at Portland, then at home, Houston, San Antonio than at San Antonio at Minnesota Orlando at Brooklyn in Memphis, those games all happened before Christmas and they're all on a silver platter for the king or the king to orchestrate the close of the game. And for whatever reason he missed some free throws. They miss shots. They weren't mature enough. What whatever it was. They weren't clicking yet. They lost all eight of those games. What if they just one four of them? What if they'd won six do six that would be twenty six eight at that point? They'd be. The talk of basketball right in. They looked like the talk basketball to me. They looked really good mirror. How fast play remember how the kids were just flourishing because when LeBron pashmina ball kouzmines, they get I'm gonna make this because the king just pass me the basketball, Lonzo was vibe off. Lebron Brandon Ingram was starting to rise and shine and all the odd set pieces. All the vets were all fitting in Rondo was having his moments Lance headed you stretch in the fourth quarter against Denver at home. Remember and save that game. And it looked like a basketball team to me. It looked like it was working all the way up until LeBron got hurt..

Background Music Might Stifle Creativity

"This is science Americans sixty seconds science. I'm Christopher Dodd Yata. Let's play a word game. What word can be put in front of the words. Stick maker and point to make three new compound words again that stick maker and point. Ready for the answer much. Stay within combines mate the words much stick much mak- and much point Emma Threadgold, a cognitive psychologist at the university of central Lancashire in England the point of test like these she says is to measure creativity. And if you didn't get it right away. Don't worry. Neither did I maybe you had music playing as you thought about the words, and of course, many people do listen to music while they work so Threadgold inner colleagues recently used such word puzzles to investigate whether listening to music affects creativity the volunteers to solve nineteen puzzles while listening to either a foreign language tune. An instrumental version of the same song. Familiar English language song. Or silence. The results in every case. Volunteers listening to music solved. Fewer puzzles than their counterparts in total quiet suggesting that background music does not really aid. This kind of creative task maybe because these puzzles require some sort of mental speech rehearsal like trying out different word combos using your inner voice. That move to changing state sounds such music in comparison to study site found such Libranoy infect, the researchers tested library noise too. Like the sounds of typing and rustling papers, and none of those noises impaired volunteers performance at all compared to the silent control group. The results are in the journal applied cognitive psychology. Still if you do insist on listening to music while working he might try something a little more low key than lady Gaga says Threadgold colleague, John Marsh. We've looked of. We'll be kind of changing state information so changes in pitch and tone. Bre that's more disruptive than the sound with fewer of those changes. So thinking about that if you compared for example, a modern pope song, we've some classical music, you would expect less disruption from that classical music. Even better though, would be the sound of silence. Hello darkness mile. As in actual silence. Thanks for listening for scientific American sixty seconds science. I'm Christopher Don. Yata?
