A Prayer for When God Wrecks Your Dreams

"A prayer for wind. god rex. your dreams. I'm andy smith read by liam martin for my thoughts are not your thoughts. Neither are your ways. My ways declares the lord as the heavens are higher than the earth so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah fifty five eight through nine is their dream in your heart. That you feel is being delayed if you look hard enough you may see another blessing in disguise. Some dreams of mine include being a wife and mother. I'm single but i'm grateful to god that he's been able to fulfil the emotional longings. I have in unexpected ways. I understand the heart numbing. Pain of a dream that hasn't come into fruition. It's hard to consider weight or no to be loving isn't it. We can often feel neglected. Lonely heartbroken tired or hopeless in this society of social media overload. There's things that can pop up on. A news feed that can cut deeper than any sharp edged sword. Seeing someone receive a blessing that you have cried about worked for prayed for and dreamed of while you're still in the waiting room is ridiculously hard. We're called to be joyful with our brothers and sisters in christ. rejoice with those who rejoice many times also comes through one. We talk about street. Famous in god in rightly so but being honest. I always come back to this next thought. If my dream does not come true. If i never receive what i've knocked on heaven's door for year after year does that mean god is not. I hope you know what the answer is. But just in case. Let me remind you and myself of this single truth. God is faithful to us at all times whether our dreams come true or not his faithfulness to me is saving me from an eternity apart from him. When i look back at things. I've gone through. I also see a bigger picture of his faithfulness in his guiding hand in my life. He is faithful to complete his work in us but not to complete our dream to do list so be confident of this that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of christ. Jesus philippians one. Six god is still good. God is still omnipresent. God is still faithful to us. Because he is god. And i am not a may you be comforted by the assurance that staying rooted in the lord is the most assured way to live a full joyful and dream come true kind of life jeremiah. Seventeen seventy eight tells us but blessed is the one who trust in the lord whose confidence is in him they will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It is not fear when he comes its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. The only way we can have a content heart and joyful life is letting him love us pursue us and fill the heart naming. We have with his grace. That doesn't always make it easy to let go over dream or to let it sit still for a season and i know god recognizes that. Don't forget that we are what he dreams and desires and he loves a so much his will and dreams for us are more than we can even imagine. And that's more than okay. Let's pray. God thank you that your will and your plan is always perfect. It might not be easy or always feel good. But i know you see the big picture and know what's best for me. You are always good. You are always faithful. You always have steadfast love for your children. these are truth. That will never be untrue. So help me live in the light of those truth today. Help me have peace as i meditate on what. It means that you are always good faithful and full of steadfast love for me. Help me face today with confidence knowing that your plan is greater than all of my dreams. Lord i love you. Thank you for the life. I haven't you in. jesus name. Amen

FIFA Launches 'FIFA Sound', a New Entertainment Strategy

"Today. Fee for announced the launch of fever sound entertainment strategy designed to enable soccer fans music lovers artists and players to make connections through sport and music. Sound is debuting an eight episode poker series co hosted by liam payne former member of the boy band one direction and sports broadcaster. jd dire. The fee for play on podcast aims to bring together the best soccer players with world's greatest musicians on the podcast and initiative born out of a partnership with universal music group for bad for brands hosts and guests will discuss monumental moments in their lives and music that inspired them during those periods of time. So that's that's the sort of the blurb and that's what fee are up to. Why are they doing this. Do you think sophie. we'll give it. Let's start with the what's happening here. Okay so i think. I think that they're starting to present themselves more than just a football brand. I think it's quite hard for a governing body to make that move into brand they can be seen as a sort of dry organizations so they're tapping into that crossover between music culture fashion in the same way that many players do and build themselves into a bigger brand in the clubs. They play for. I think that fee. I seen this opportunity to get more emotional connection using those other levers and a great way to do that or a great touch point is audio because it's proven to have that emotional engagement quality you know so great rates connect with people so that got universal thing and the celebrity thing and bringing together sports people with musicians and talking about staff on a deeper level is bringing fee for motor life as a brand. That's how i do agree with that. I think it's an attempt to do that. Which i. I'm not sure it as with all of these. Things will depend on the execution as to whether they're able to achieve it but i think sophie hit the nail on the head in terms of trying to branch out into other verticals to create an entertainment crossover Format aligning sports with music This is an ambition. Law of clubs and sports brands share Whether they're able to put it in a way that's relevant to fans Were remains to be seen but Let's hope the it is this new and rather gonna do it or are they doing it now. Doing better elsewhere. I don't i don't think trying to get into the football. Conversation is anything new It's just very difficult for official bodies particularly governing bodies to get into office space which is quite tip quite defined by authentic conversations. Authentic voices and try to and try to place themselves. They're in a way that is meaningful. So i think i think many will attempt to execute correctly. I'm not sure i agree. I think that not many have yet a they are thinking about it and i think some of the big big rightsholders around the world will be. We'll be looking to do this. But we haven't really seen any body executed properly or well yet but i think this conversation's going on in the background. We've certainly seen some big clubs around the world investing in their audio branding strategy lately. So people are. I acts and i think there'll be more of that. But in terms of podcasting in the way that fee for doing it. I don't think anybody else's done here. What's the point of an official club. Pocus what's the positioning. Do you think that again. I mean jolly mentioned there that there are other voices and there are lots of fan based club podcasts around and there's also mainstream media radio. Bbc lots of of other noise walk role. Can a club play in this space. Yeah it's an excellent point and it predates podcast as an it's It's the fact that there's an ongoing conversation and then there's there's certain things that clubs kennecott say and no no more obvious. Was this at the time also fan. Tv had a really big moment. A couple of years ago around Wanting to their fans willing to sack sacrifice in anger and that was getting huge engagement on youtube. Whereas and i i'm the club the that digital media team would have quite like some of the audience that robey. So we're guessing but they could never have produced content like that and nor should they So it being the official voice you have to place your advantages. You have to play to your strengths. And that is usually access to things that your average punter. Your average commentate a dozen have access to Which usually of goes back to the players and or other people within the club. Who have something interesting to say But yeah you you tend to be constrained somewhat by your ability to speak freely if you're the official voice And i think one simple example where that that slightly doesn't doesn't play true and and the good thing is Nfl media has a suite of podcasts. That all to kind of talk about the league and some do it through the lens of statistics and analysis. Some do it through the lens of a more jerky. And and kind of light-hearted kind of tone of voice but they're all officially sanctioned podcast. That's promote the sports in the league and The hosts have free rein to Form of a better word. Slag off coaches play is say someone should be dropped or sack of whatever and and you would never see that coming from official bodies in europe and i think but it's it's It's a it's a very interesting approach. And i think one that's been well executed

Albon Replaced by Perez in Red Bull's 2021 Line-Up

"First topic for discussion today. Something actually we chat about quite regularly last year. But i haven't had the chance to go in depth on the costs over the christmas and new year break. I'm not reports driver lineup. Now of course we now know that. Sergio perez has been signed to partner. Max for slapping while. Alex album is team last year. And so the second half of two thousand nine hundred has been made. The team's reserve driver album also compete in the revamped. Dm category in twenty. Twenty ways efan commitments. Allow this and we understand. He'll be driving a ferrari. Four eight eight. Gt three alongside rebel genius liam northern. How big a hit. The think being mighty back to reserve driver an out formula one in terms of racing for at least a you know a whole calendar year. How do you think that how big hit that. he's f f one ambitions. yes he can. I think that it is so different when we saw by pierre gasoline daniel via meet similar fight when they were sent back to toro rosso and that them released the chance kind of rebuild that career and keep racing in athlon keeps it of all not rada christine made clear a few weeks folded station and the end of the season. That if alvin didn't get a rebel safe next year he will be our. Beth won't completely on on the sidelines. Although the team has said he's gonna be undertaken an extensive testing and development program with a view to twenty twenty. Eight doesn't really give much of a chance to actually sort of show. Boy he can do in really strike back and before about something the by them caveat when he made his his second comeback with taurasi s scoring podium nine and of cpi guiseley to an enormous two great right away three twenty twenty that were both able to rebuild and get these big results. Dtm series with the gt three rules that they're updating ultimately not raced in ten tops. Ever i don't think so. I think that's going to be a big change for him and yeah i think it's just a it's it is a real big sat back and i think the full red bull i think just got say i don't really see what he goes from hits bonus nothing gets allows useful. Okay he's going to be playing such a big role in that too much to development. I think unless peres absolutely stinking year in that say realistically red bull going to be looking out. But if someone's come back with twenty twenty because are they need. Wii the perez goes beyond the initial one year contract. He signed or they'll look further into janea program if he's not has an amazing first year without tariff some let your e bits really stand out. I don't know me album just seems in this way. News of the World Movie review

"Probably safe to say the discourse on that one has had its moment in the film twitter bubble but we have not had a chance to weigh in yet on the show. So we're going to get to wonder woman nineteen eighty-four a bit later. I though another christmas day released that makes its on-demand debut this weekend. It's news of the world directed by paul greengrass and starring. Tom hanks news of the world is adapted from the two thousand sixteen novel by paulette gyles. Let's hear some of the trailer. Gentlemen my name is captain jefferson kyle kit tonight debris the news from across this great world of ours so they pay you to tell story. I never heard that is the thing a main could do not a rich man. Keep patients that you can see took part. Stop shop talk. You understand. English call says your name. Is joanna liam burger in the took you when they attack your family. Six years prior her mother father and sister over. Well i passed. It is a strange world. Michael when a tom hanks western directed by paul greengrass. Who worked with hangs on captain phillips after directing three of the jason. Bourne films gets lost in the shuffle. But that's pretty much what's happened with news of the world. There's been little talk of it since it did open in theaters. Some theaters on christmas day. It does come to streaming services as we mentioned this weekend set. Shortly after the civil war of the movie stars hanks as jefferson kid. A printer who lost his business in the war and now travels from town to town. Reading newspapers allowed to gathered pain audiences on his journey. He comes across a young german girl. Played by helena's zongol. Who was kidnapped as a baby by akilah tribe and rescued years later by union. Soldiers kid is charged with returning her to her surviving relatives but she'd rather returned to the kiawah the only family she's ever known that's the central narrative. But it's safe to say that's not what's most compelling about news of the world at least right now michael and i were discussing some of the titles for possible review on the show you lean toward news of the world saying this it would feed naturally into talking about how we get our news and what the news has been lately having now seen it. I'm pretty sure. I know what you're getting at but i'd love to have you explain and i'm eager to hear if you think this topicality is to the movies credit or to its detriment. Well you know when you talk about any movie or anything that's worth talking about in the culture yet. You have to respond to the times. You're living in doesn't mean that everything gets bent toward particular historical malay. Were in right now. I mean it's it's it's just sort of stunning. How distracting everything in the world in our country least is is crowding out so much of our head space for anything else and it's I think i think what's going on in news of the world at least As greengrass co wrote and directed it is you. Have you have a film. that's speaking i think. Directly although not too bluntly a to certain strains in the american spirit and the american sort of rugged individualism western ethos have a guy like Tom hanks character. Kid who's a civil war veteran The film takes place right around. The same time is john. Ford's the searchers it's It's texas in eighteen seventy. The searches was two years earlier. And you have a very similar plot line right you have essentially if you want to boil it down to the utter simplicity. Have you have an anglo older white male who wants to you. Know who ends up Rescuing and saving i guess with quotes around it A young girl from the clutches or the life. she's known a living amongst the native american tribes comanche searchers. And the kiawah here in this story

Boston Red Sox Take A Closer Look At Corey Kluber

"There is more activity coming out of boston as well. They are rumored to be interested in several free agents and buster olney. espn's buster only reported that quote. The red sox have talked a ton of possibilities are preparing for a series of moves before the start of spring training and quote so move. Benintendi isn't the only move. That's on the mind for the red sox There's a couple of other names here. That have been linked right hander. Jayco dharavi starting pitcher. He he's up and down when it comes to his career. He was in minnesota for some time then down to texas but professional arm to come in and give them quality innings veteran relief pitcher. Alex colom formerly of the white sox in his point eight. Era from twenty twenty now. There are some concerns when you dive in a bit. Deeper into sabermetrics there is a dip in velocity and hard hit contact has increased. But you know it is a results oriented. Sport and alex colom was still fantastic for a the white sox this past summer. You have former cy. Young winner corey kluber pitching for teams on wednesday january thirteenth. So you guys may know how that workout went by the time. You're listening to this He's gonna throw about twenty five thirty pitches and it seems to be about two thirds of major league. Baseball teams will be in attendance. So the main goal is to show teams. He's healthy show. Teams that velocity is still there because he's basically missed. The entirety of the last two seasons with multiple injuries forearm torn right Throwing muscle a lot of different things going on with kluber but he could be a perfect. You know bowe bilo free agent option for not only boston but a couple of other different teams out there and the last guy the red sox have been tagged to is actually outfielder yasuko week. You know puig's been in and out of baseball and could find himself as a cheap option out there in the outfield for boston and a lot of people don't like i actually don't mind him. I liked the energy place with. I like the passion that he brings to the yard ultimately he's probably not the performer. He once was but he'll give you a professional at bats. Play hard for you. Apple Loses A Copyright Lawsuit

"Federal judge has dismissed. Apple's claims that mobile device virtualization company corral corallium violated copyright law with its software that allowed folks to run ios on pc's quoting the washington post in a ruling that has wide reaching implications for iphone security research and copyright law a federal judge in florida throughout apple's claims that carelli had violated copyright law with its software which helps security researchers find bugs and security holes on apple's products. Corallium co founded in two thousand seventeen by husband and wife. Amanda gordon and chris wade was a breakthrough insecurity research because it gave its customers the ability to run virtual iphones on desktop computers. Corallium makes it to use physical avon's that contain specialized software to poke and prod. Ios apple's mobile operating system. The judge in the case ruled that carell liam's creation of virtual. Iphones was not a copyright violation in part because it was designed to help improve the security for all iphone users. Corallium wasn't creating a competing product for consumers rather it was a research tool for a comparatively small number of customers. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment in the lawsuit. Apple argued that crawley products could be dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands because security flaws discovered by liam could be used to hack iphones. Apple also argued that chromium sells its product indiscriminately claim corallium denied dread. Rodney smith called apple's argument on those claims quote puzzling. If not disingenuous quote smith found that chromium used a vetting process before selling its products to customers. Apple initially attempted to acquire corallium in two thousand eighteen. According to court records when the acquisition talks stalled apple sued corallium last year claiming its virtual iphones which contain only the bare bones functions necessary for security research constitute violation of copyright law apple also alleged corallium circumvented. Apple's security measures to create the software thereby violating the digital millennium copyright act that claim has not been thrown out and quote. So i was already to say this was a dumb lawsuit but apparently companies have won a similar cases in the past around copyright but most in the digital security community praised this result. Let me quote at pony. All the things on twitter quote. This is a big deal for security research in particular but also other parts of tech apple case was an insanely broad assertion. That emulating iowa's firmware on something. That's not apple's own hardware violates copyright rather than covered by fair use. Imagine if. That argument had prevailed that emulation of a binary even for wildly different purposes such as security testing that binary is a digital copyright infringement. Might as well have back named afl to automatic federal lawsuit in that scenario was such a dangerously broad claim if the logical conclusion of your lawsuit is windows being a terms of service. Change away from overnight bankrupting vm. Ware to force everyone to use your and turning security testing of compiled binary into lawsuits. Then sorry you're lawsuit is bad and you should feel bad and quote

Weekend Review and the Secrets of a Professional Bettor with Mark Holder

"Paisley park has had a comeback and they're very bullish about his second start. How serious is is this issue. And is it a case of you have to take it on individual basis because the things to say about. This is an declare. Marcus seeing all of the racing but he was away marks overall points is. He's too short in the market therefore liam and that's from professional beshir his mind that makes logical sense. Obviously he is not run anywhere near form and as a very valid. Excuse for that he's finished ninety-seven links tailed off and poor fellow is is in desperate is in a desperate state and i don't like to see this. This is this is not. This is not nice to see for. The moore's i would prefer to see gosh and be able to go and perform and show was what he can do. And if that's win this by twenty lengths or finished third then so be it but at least we get to see it instead. Those more questions about what might have been or what might be. So how serious is Fibrillation heart and how serious is it for his season as you say it really depends Obviously is gonna defibrillator halt. We have noticed who was extend. Today's if it's reset itself like paisley pause his shoe the next day after he was found to have after as huddle and i mean it's only holes bleeds you have a scale of how they fled or if they're gonna hold in that tendon you have a scale of how bad that is you know. Obviously we do not know to what extent goshen cautions issue has has surfaced too but the biggest concern i have with this is at least pacey part. I know the plan was because he recovers himself from his defibrillation heart that they were planning on bringing him back in the spring to see him To to get him back on the truck again and are we started this song. The some reported last season. I actually thought in some ways. It's probably a blessing in disguise that he didn't have that because it's given him no sorry. I need to talk to forget about that. About experience in this day is huddle but also a fulsome not to just relax and completely set himself right again. The thing with goshen knows his first hurdle race the season. they just happened and you haven't necessarily got the luxury now. All enforced break in which to properly assess him to give yourself the time to to get him back to you. Know sort of equilibrium gas to them breaking the amounts again for his next to have been backed where he is i mean. I don't know his retool stephen packing but if he's got to the patients or if he wants to run the whole soon as it seems as soon as he's given the thumbs up by the vet so not the one so blinding i could think to. This is against talking about on the previ- posted this weekend. Because the amount of times. I've been burned by what i perceived to be a talk juvenile taking not step up into open. Company is a world apart for them the amount of time. I've thought this is an absolute well. This is going to be the next five year. Old twin the champion hurdle i know how for the last year but this year we another one on an as mark says about the the stone improvement he has to found to even match strides veterans on was huge. And i just wonder if they on the back will consider see things. Happening to flat runs posing him away. If i'd put him away for the wind it's completely having forget about this because you could see. He was hanging horrendously right throughout the race themselves. Today he wasn't happy at any stage. And i would tell them away maybe bring him back for his spring campaign and it might even be a blessing in disguise. He misses this four slash five year. Old season truly might miss getting the experience. But it's such a tough season for them in general and it's not something that i'd like to see a quick turnaround with and i'd most like see what pays the park's hard and have a really big break to assess the situation. I completely got themselves back to where they work is is not a quick fix the model war

Looking back at the reaction to John Lennon's death 40 years ago today

"Today, the former Beatle John Lennon was killed in New York in an act of violence that shocked millions of his fans and then had been shot by a disturbed fan as he returned to his home the Dakota apartment building with his wife, Yoko Ono. Reporting live from the Dakota for BBC News at that time was Tom Brook 40. Years on Tom, who lives in New York, has been taking a very personal look back at his memories of that night and exploring Lenin's growing legacy today. Imagine where Snow heaven John Lennon's anthem Imagine is routinely performed by musicians and fans in Strawberry fields that section of New York Central Park dedicated to the former Beatles memory. Just across the street from the Dakota apartment building. 40 years ago, the Dakota was where John Lennon's life came to a sudden and horrific end. Millions of Americans first heard the news while watching Monday night football on the ABC network. Unspeakable tragedy. John Lennon, outside of his apartment building on the west side of New York City, shot twice in the back dead on arrival. It's half past six time for today. Good Good morning morning from from Brian Brian Redhead Redhead and and Libby Libby Purvis. Purvis. The The former former Beatle Beatle John John Lennon Lennon has has been been shot shot dead dead outside outside his his home home in in New New York York in in London. London. The The BBC's BBC's Today program was on the air, bringing first news of Lennon's death to British audiences. I had rushed to the Dakota found a public phone booth on West 72nd Street. Everyone around me. Lennon fans were crying soon I was on the air talking. Can you tell us exactly what happened. John Lennon was killed two hours ago. I got most of my information from talking to the literally hundreds of fans who are now congregating outside the Dakota building where they're going to hold on all night vigil, and it's a very weird scene indeed, because they're playing Lennon music. A lot of them are in tears and they're weeping on there, either stunned or they're hysterical. That seems like a long time ago and itwas over the years I've watched this journalist colleagues have covered the deaths of other pop culture figures, but none seem to bring forth the collective grief Witness with John Lennon. Celebrated New York photographer Bob Gruen was one of Lenin's friends. Well, the reaction to his death was worldwide. And it was such a shock. You know that he died, and then he died so violently. When all his life you've been talking about peace and trying to help others imagine peace. And here he was shot for that. But 40 years on the trauma has receded on John Lennon now has a new generation of fans some very young among them. 10 year old Yasha, Kigali's who I met in Strawberry Fields. I like the words and I like the music and I like the room and how it all goes together. I think that it's about something that is very important. Imagine novel the people today in these pandemic weary, conflict ridden times. Young musicians like Tom McKay, Hearn and Seattle really embrace Lenin's message. The fact that he emphasized love and peace and this idea of striving for something that doesn't currently exist. I still see that message is something that we need. Thinking about something that's beyond ourselves is just incredibly powerful. Not everything in relation to Lenin was wondrous. He could be mean and nasty, and he admitted that he abused women. None of this has really affected his legacy. If anything, his stature as a musician has grown since he died, it's still making an impact. As music journalist Jordan run talk explains. He has one of the truly great voices in rock history. And now you have artists like Liam Gallagher of Oasis and then modern bands like Tame Impala and cut worms who will get that very specific went and asked vocal sound because it's such a trademark. Hold someday join us. Today I live just four blocks from the Dakota. Sometimes I wander into strawberry fields. I think what I like most about Lenin was that he had an authentic voice. Not just musically. He did and said some stupid things, but he wasn't a fake something quite refreshing to ponder. In our age of endless posturing by politicians and celebrities. No problem.

Small Cities Are A Big Draw For Remote Workers During The Pandemic

"All the remote working that americans have done since the start of the pandemic is changing the labor market. It can be a good thing for workers who can now live where they want and it also means that smaller cities like burlington vermont. Which were about to visit here could benefit from the heck your report in vermont public radio liam elder connors has more sierra allred works for a tech company in salt lake city utah and she was not expecting to move to vermont this year but when her husband got his psychiatric residency in this state she brought her job with her alread. Works remotely from a town. Just outside of burlington vermont's largest city. She says the pandemic helped shift her company's attitude about remote work i know from my coworkers. Nobody's been back to our office building since the pandemic started everybody's been working remotely and it's been going splendidly. Allred says vermont was in her first choice but it had access to the outdoors and internet. I want to be able to work on some algorithms. Some good code break for lunch and be able to walk out and take a walk down for st path or go sit by the river. Vermont has the second smallest and second oldest population in the country. State leaders have tried for years to find ways to attract more young people. Mike allred and what she likes about the burlington area its proximity to nature in generally good broadband has made it ideal for remote working. David bradbury president of vermont center for emerging technologies says for years. The state has had a small but growing community of remote workers mostly in tech building over time and these trends have only accelerated under pandemic. It's not just workers who stand to benefit from remote options companies also have something to gain now that physical location is less of a requirement marine michelini resident who works for. Ibm says remote. Work opens up a whole new pool of workers. Machelandon says her team has been remote since she joined in two thousand sixteen. And that's a huge difference in hiring someone that you've been friends with on twitter for a few years you've never met them in real life that you know that they have the skills you need you can reach out and they can join your team. More remote work options could be a big help for smaller cities. Like burlington and four vermont. A whole last year estate program offered grants to remote workers if they moved to vermont and that initiative brought in one hundred and forty new workers but this year the pandemic has made vermont more attractive to new residents. Now the question is does that continue. Jeff cars president of an economic consulting firm based in vermont. A recent survey by researchers at the university of vermont found a third of people who moved to the state during the pandemic say. They're likely or very likely to stay. Car estimates that could boost the state's population by almost eleven thousand. But he says people might leave once. There's a vaccine or treatment for covid nineteen. Must Have Shrubs With Ken Druse

"This time to try to narrow down our list of must have shrubs to the real standouts and tell us why i can margaret. I know you'll never get it to three. It's funny you said that because when we first started talking about it you said one and both of us that we can't pick one. Can we even pick three right So which of your books. We always give copy of what looks only talk on the show at with the transcript of the show. What do you think i mean. Is this one for shade gardeners this one for. What's this one for a cheat garden shade garden would be a good a good one. That's always a huge hit so good good. Good good So we're at you. And i in our lives are at what a another expert friend says is the shrub season of our lives which is sort of rather than crawling around dealing with lots of fussy high maintenance perennials. It's kinda great to have some big fillers like mature shrubs to do a lot of showing off and yet not ask a lot of us. So where do we begin. What's a shroud. i guess. Well a strobe is a multi stemmed plant of woody plant and i guess that's sort of describes a tree would have one trunk one stem herbaceous plants die down to the ground soft tissues and shrub is a woody plant. That is bushy bush. I don't like that word for describing his trip but it's rub can be bushy. Okay okay and we should say before we start naming our desert island trump's that we didn't include khanna first because really that can that's a whole other conversation So many shapes and colors and textures among those so Do you remember your first. Trump been is still there and is it a favourite or it didn't make the list. Well i get. I get to pick three right okay. You want me to tell you. My first well you said conifers. And i'm not going to talk about converse but my one of my favorites shrubs is. Evergreen is a what is called a broad lead evergreen and it's a bucks it's a kind of boxwood. I have too many of them. And it's a box with semper barons. Graham blondie yes and it is one of the most colome ner plants i've ever seen really but It's a shrub and it's minor. There's probably i have some. That are like seven feet tall and fifteen inches. Wanted if you can imagine that. They're they're like punctuation marks. You know they're like exclamation marks in the garden. And as i said. I have too many because when i first got i always wanted them and then a nursery not too far from here a lot of them. Nobody bought them and the price kept going lower and lower and lower. I think i have made. I may have twentieth them when they were eight dollars a piece. Wow that's a lot of exclamations. A long time. I know and i i also keep moving them. I just moved three boy Son they want son you know. I'm sure they would love son. But i have all my box with. I don't have any full sun. But i have some of my boxwoods in quite a bit of shade and they stay calendar. Sometimes i tie them up because the snow might split them a little bit or you know splayed them. They don't break. But i do. I do tai the ones that are floppy up for the winter. And i love it if you says boxwood called graham. Landy columbia okay. I don't actually have any evergreen things at all on my list whether broadleaf or coniferous And i was thinking when we started this conversation today on the phone that my first trump passion was the genus vibe burnham. In back in the day we had a lot of divi burnham's like the double file and so forth that turned out to be kind of invasive and a lot of areas of the country. So i don't grow those anymore. But lately i've been cultivating more and more native ones like the maple leaf a full liam then tatum the arrow would and so forth So that was kind of where my shrub journey began. But the thing. I have the most of you said you have a lot of grand. Blondie is winter. Barry holly speaking of things. And i don't know what came over me. I mean it was the birds that came over me early on here in this rural place having been grown up in the city. You know coming here meeting all the birds and knowing that learning that they liked some of them liked fruit and that the native hollies were one of the ways to fuel the migration in the wintertime. And i planted about forty five or fifty of them in three very large groups in different directions toward the perimeter of the property but in different directions where i can see them from key windows in the house at a distance in the winter and all different varieties and Big ones small ones. I got a lot of fruit and birds a like very much. And yeah so waxwings and robins like in you know hunt flocks at one hundred or whatever at a time will come in right around now november ish and again to pick over at At the first snowfall and so forth and they'll strip them all pretty early on but one trick with winterbourne. Hollies if you want some that will last longer for your visual interest. The non red varieties they. The birds leave them longer. They're not as interested in them. So many yellowish orange ones and so the lighter colored ones and the winter

"Welcome back to another episode of this week in Photo I. Am your host Frederik van Johnson today. Lee Herbert is on the show. He's a final cut pro expert who has been using the absence like the early days of the software I think when it yet cert- up with a crank or something. Now Lee is the expert. He's talking all over the world these days. Virtually we're GONNA talk about how his business has changed as an editor that's Kinda stuck sheltering in place like the rest of us Lee Herbert Welcome showman how you doing. Much. I'm much like the rest of the will of surviving this year. So yeah, we we're getting. We're we're we're based in Melbourne. So we are now in I think we twelve or thirteen time has no relevance anymore of of lockdown here. So Yeah, it's It is what it is. It is what? gives us the the Reader's Digest. Story the first resume paragraph of WHO Lee Herbert is. Yeah, the first line, which ironically as an editor I, struggle to keep things brief when I'm talking. which. Because as an editor, obviously your main job is to make sure that you tell your story in the most short and succinct way. But when I'm telling marine. Story. But. So a little bit about me I have had many over the years but I worked in the apple wheels for ten years of a favorite Tom was that as a final per China. But at the same time, I also did a lot of theatre and TV and things like that and so I sort of ended up wanting to do a lot more production work. So I left Apple. Back in two thousand, thirteen I think two, thousand, thirty, two, thousand, fourteen, and started mining production company I. Still focused a favorite on training really enjoy the training side of things but yes oh, you know thankfully, we've been going from strength strength and so been doing. Mostly corporate videos for large and medium and sometimes small corporate clients my passion Israeli documentaries because I. Love. I love telling people stories in learning people's stories and Yes. BUYS. That's that's the the high level view of what I do and why do it? That's cool and you love this stuff I mean you you've been editing on I mean obviously as evidenced by posters on the wall behind you, you are a fan of apple products? And you have not working. We're apple a for a while since I've known you've been contracting on an offer. Those guys, right. Yeah it's. Yes on an. been doing doing stuff for them. Luckily I get to do stuff for up dump stuff cerny done stuff for a lot of stuff in the medical field. So we worked visor with books for GlaxoSmithKline. Quite a few local companies here as well. Obviously was the big stuff. But yes I've been doing a lot of corporate and I really. It's funny. The corporate side of things I think photography might get this quite a lot as well is that I get quite a lot of friends of mine who are in the field but they work more in in narrative do soap operas they do movies and things like that and they say to me Oh you know I'd hate to do corporate stuff because you sort of a confined and be. You know you might not have. A particularly exciting product to talk about and I was like, yeah. But that's like that's the really cool thing for me is I love the idea of having to look at a widget and go how can I make this widget coup? How can I find the story and helped tell the widget story so that you know the people can get it like I was just having a virtual meeting with a client earlier this week in you know she was saying that they want to build a relationship with the production company because I don't just want to talk about the speeds and feeds of what they sell they WanNa talk about the benefits they want to talk about you know. got these cool buttons but here's why does cool buttons are going to make your life better and here's why you should buy it. So I really like that aspect of. Doing corporate work yeah, yeah, this whole world though you know as you as you look at just sort of the shifting of where things are right now, you know like the title of this, the stream slash recording is editing an isolation and as you and I were talking about offline last week I think it was there has been some positive you know obviously. You know the whole thing is negative. There's no way to spin it as positive but there are some cracks in the clouds and that are revealing new revenue streams that you didn't have prior to the whole pandemic. He talked about that a little bit of how things have shifted from Lee. Herbert hopping on a plane first-class to go to a gig versus. Lebron up skype in firing of invoices. What does it look like? It's definitely Dif- Liam. been quite different from that. So I'll given. So obviously like I had when when everything sort of started going crazy I had at least five to ten jobs that were either put on hold canceled, and obviously I'm not going to get flourine outs to the USO Asia wherever it is GonNa fly me out to to shoot stuff for them but the interesting converse of that is. Interestingly enough events because my my company we do we do a few events. We got a couple of in the middle of the year and then a couple at the end of the year. But like regular ones, men bits and bobs coming but we didn't really do a lot of events and funnily enough a lot of the work that's coming from lately is from virtual conferences. So I've had quite a few corporate clients who they've got staff members who are presenting it at virtual conferences, and thankfully they have realized very quickly that just doing it on a Webcam is not a good look for the company. I think we've all kind of like one of my biggest concerns when when the whole lockdown thing started is if you watch the news just about everyone that they were interviewing on the news, which is in the terrible lighting situation with you know they they elect either under the nose looking straight up they nose as what will up somewhere and you got people in the background working with their underwear it was. Dogs and cats living together complete my him and I was looking at that going. Oh, my goodness I. Really Hope People don't get used to it and go. Okay. Well, this is just how you know. You're not going to have good lighting. You're not going to have good camera. You're not gonNa have good microphone and we just going to be eastern that's going to be fine. I was like I'm out of work. This is awful. But thankfully, what's happened is a lot of my clients have looked gaunt. Yeah. You know we could do better. So there's been a favorite of consulting but I've done. So locally here in Melbourne between lockdowns, I worked with quite a few clients who realize that they were going to be working from home lot. Warn I helped them get even if it was just bit a webcams or just. A little you know like, for example, a lot of them when they could get them in stock. This thing called the Algata cam link between you and me there's tons of these for twenty bucks on Amazon that you can get instead of big fancy expensive ones. which allow you to connect. A Conversation With Hans Skillrud

"To hallway chats. I'm Cara Clays and I'm Liam Dempsey today. We're joined by Hans School Road over the course of seven years Hans built a 12-person web design agency in downtown Chicago and then sold it in early 2019 to focus attention on his new start-up long-term again. Mm, Getting is an auto updating privacy policy generator Hans. Welcome. Thanks for having me. Hey glad to see you here today virtually hans-georg. Thanks so much for joining us. I love for you to share more of your story here. Tell us more about yourself. Absolutely. So, you know, I like starting I have to pick a divided somewhere. So I'm going to start it when I found WordPress because you know, I should date myself free WordPress and post WordPress cuz that's really been a big determiner of my career. We all have that that DeMark wage. Some point, I think you can start where ever you want though. If you want to go back further, that's fine too. Well, maybe a good example is how I got to Wordpress. You know, I was one of the first employees a Groupon Groupon was a hot young company. That was seemingly helping small businesses get more traffic through their doors and I drink the Kool-Aid as we would say a Groupon. I'm very much believed in the model of discounting a company 50% offer more for one day only and you know bringing people together to try out a place over the years though that company went public and I think their priorities changed and I shared my concerns with management they disagreed so I quit I was managing a sales team about a hundred fifty people and I decided I don't like their business model anymore and someone with a small business owner is passionate about what they do within their doors, but they aren't necessarily passionate about bringing that information online. And that was what group I was taking advantage of in my opinion. So what I'm Off to do was to help small-business owners share what they do best online and I think that message, you know, that was the that was the fuel to my midnight Midnight fire Midnight Oil. I'm always so bad with those things. It was the fuel to my fire to to you know, help the small business owner out and over the course of seven years. I found WordPress. I started building websites helping small business owners with their exposure online and the company was successful. I built it up to a 12-person team in downtown Chicago and I happen to be dating a privacy attorney at the time and I told her how I used to copy and paste privacy policies over dinner and her jaw dropped and she's like, what are you doing? I'm like, that's what everyone does. She's like, that's not what you do anymore. Not not what we're dating off and threw a few discussions we decided we we came up with the business model for Irma gettin which we I now have sold my agency and focus all of my time with Sonata on wage. Again is a privacy policy generator. What's cool about our Tech is that you copy and paste the embed code from turmeric added onto the website and that's what allows us to push updates to the policies when the laws change and we give web agencies a free set of our policies in the host that they like our product enough to want to offer term of got into their clients. They can resell it or use our affiliate programs whatever they wish off. But but what we're trying to teach the web industry is something I failed at multiple times, which is the era of copying and pasting privacy policies is over people like we have to accept the future. What is about to happen, especially in America with privacy laws. So that's where my focus is. Now. I am married to Donna and you guys are the first people get to say that publicly to Tom Thumb and yeah, we work from home now and we run from again together and and the rest is history great great story. There's a lot there to unpack and talk about Going to go back to the beginning part cuz I'm curious about Groupon as somebody who used it and hasn't really seen much of it is it sounds like and I don't remember when that was that Groupon and became a thing but it's just before small businesses had web sites. Is that what you're saying websites were definitely a thing. It was 2009 when Groupon which was typically previously called the point which I loved that website named the point., because what someone would just say, what's the point and you're like, oh, you know some kind of joke, but the point became Groupon and I shortly joined group on home sites were still around I was 2010 and you know, I was it was a wild ride watching a company go from a hundred employees to thirty thousand and three years and two years off, um in my career went along with it because of its growth. I naturally I was put in a position to manage people which was a wonderful opportunity. I love sales. I'd love song Is I love sales because I think a lot of people think of sales is bad and I always try to say no. No, no, no, no people are bad or people are good. It is sales is just a Communication channel. So am I only want to do good things with sales and and that's how I train my sales team. So that's something I really appreciated at Groupon. They they gave me the ability to do that for a while, but I felt like watch company went public priorities had changed and now all of a sudden we need to be focused on taking additional margins from small business owners and you know, that sounds good and all but when you're talking to a small business owner asking them to discomfort sells more than 50% and then you're taking more than well you're taking well, it's public knowledge. You're taking more than 50% of a revenue raised. I don't know some didn't feel right. So, you know, that's what I decided was no longer fit. And at least if you look at the stock market how Groupons performed over the last ten years. I think I was correct. But

Quibi is shutting down just months after launching

"The Mobile Streaming Platform Qube is shutting down. It launched barely six months ago but it struggled to find its footing. It did not pick up many monthly subscribers despite getting nearly two billion dollars in major Hollywood investments and having star-studded content from people like Chrissy Teigen and Liam. Hemsworth why it failed though is up for debate, qube blames the pandemic since the platform was meant to be watched on the go on your phone shows. How just? Five to ten minute episodes but fewer people are out and about sitting in waiting rooms or commuting on public transit right now. So quickly says it's business model is just no longer viable though critics argue it would never have worked since consumers already have other free options for short-term video like Youtube either way the company will look to find buyers for its original content in the coming months. So maybe you'll get to see the shows after all.
