"Refused to do jobs for anybody. They owed him money and they didn't want to pay him. Who knows, right? But everybody had a different story of what happened. Everybody had a different story of who was in the locker room when it happened. If it happened in the shower, if it happened inside where the lockers were. So I just kind of put my hands up and I was like, man, I don't remember what I had for breakfast these days, much less what everybody told me on this show, but I got a buddy of mine who's here. He remembers everything lockstep that ever happened in his life must have a lot of empty room in his head because he doesn't use it very often. But when we watched the Dark Side of the Ring show that talked about bruiser's death, all the guys came back and he's like, he didn't say that. That's the opposite of what he said back then. I don't know, you know, it's just one of those things where you don't know. I asked Vince about a year ago. When that dark side came out, I said, would you have ever brought brodie in? And he said, absolutely would have happened. Probably within a year, because Brody and Hogan, that would have been a one huge money draw. And I said, what about him having the attitude? He said, I would have had to I would have had to come to Jesus speech with him. I would have told him, you know, how we do business here, but he said, Rosie was Brody was difficult, but he was a businessman. Yeah, he wasn't a businessman. And he said, he said, we would have had a chat. I would have told him what was up, and we would have made a lot of money together. So that's one of those would have stories Hogan versus brodie in 88 would have sold out everywhere. Brody is one of the biggest scariest guys like in the history of guys. Great story, I'll share one from one of the dinners. Lex Luger came down for dinner, and there's a famous match in Fort Lauderdale, same arena we used to put our MMA shows on. It was a cage match and Luger was leaving to head to WCW to do his four horsemen stint, Brody was coming in and Brody was in a bad mood and pissed off. They get into the cage match and Lex Luger comes and starts and Brody's just not selling anything for him and just whacking them and whacking them and standing there while he's hitting them just like no. And Luger ends up climbing that just climbs out of the cage and walks back to the locker room. So we asked them the story about it. And he's like, so I get in there and I don't know bruiser Brody and he's a big scary guy, but you know, so am I, you know, and I get in there and he's not working with me and you know he's not selling that he hits me and he hits me like really hard and I'm thinking, all right, mother. I'm 6 foot four. I'm 270 pounds. I'm shredded. I played professional football. I'm gonna get the out of here. And I climbed out of that cage and I went to the back. Very quick, very quick. You know how intimidating Brody was, but piggyback off the, I didn't get to say off tell me Blanchard's, what was his father? Joe Blanchard. Joe Blanchard. His promotion in San Antonio actually got on the USA Network before WWE ever did. So wow. Learn your history. Oh, there's a little trivia there. Cowboys got Casey down. It was one of the main things. He was a great dinner, super nice guy. We are moving in a new direction, moving forward and moving beyond smoking. We are Altria, and our companies are leading the way in moving adult smokers away from cigarettes by taking action to transition millions toward

"Where it ranks on the fun factor, those three 89 matches of flair and steamboat are right there. They're right there. Nothing's above them. The first one's an incredible pay per view, the shotgun rumble, which you can watch along with JR that free shows dot com this month. Casio is going to be on Conrad. We're bringing casio in at no expense very no expense. We're paying him in hot links. And he loves it. The second match in this flare steamboat trilogy is a two out of three falls match at the clash of the champions. It's going to be head to head with Russell mania 5. That one happens at the Superdome. We've talked about that one in the archives. And then of course, we'll finish up at wrestle war and Nashville in May. And of course, as soon as we're finished with this one, flare is moving on to work with the incredible Terry phone. These matches are, look at that picture. Such a great shot. Go check it out. Grilling JR on YouTube dot com. JR's facial to Eric's or to Terry Fox facial is just hilarious. On the heels of this trilogy though, it feels like we're in a similar spot because flair is once again back in the title picture. He's moving on from steamboat. He's now paired with funk. So what does that mean for steamboat? Well, not a bunch of return matches because now flare is working with Fox. So instead, he's going to challenge Lex Luger for the U.S. title. Which, no matter how we slice it, is a step down from the world title, and it's a step down from an in ring opponent, from flair to Luger at the time who was still maybe a little greenish. The great American bash is going to happen in Baltimore, an incredible show, July 23rd, at Steve mills going to lose by DQ, and then his NWA run comes to a close. And think about that now. He just came in in January, and here he is in July, finishing up. What was it that was what was steamboat missing here? You always go back to the two culprits, Conrad, the two Cash and creative. I'm not sure about the cash component. Ricky was being paid well as I recall, I would involve in the payoffs and stuff like that at that point in time, because the guys are essentially on salary. So that was something they would negotiate with their represents. They introduced themselves and whoever was running the company at that time. This case of late Jim hurt, so it just, it's always cash of creative. You can decipher suck it right down to that. That's the bottom bottom line. And I know Ricky was not pleased with this creative. How do you follow up on through the greatest matches ever with arguably the greatest pro wrestler ever? How do you follow that up? Right. It's an insurmountable odds to recreate magic with somebody else. And look, I have great respect for Lex Luger and the man he's from and the things he's overcome is health wise, he's a, he's a great success story in my view. And I think the world of him. And I think of him often. Because the journey that he's on in the ups and downs twists and turns. But there's no way it's not fair in Alexa say the same thing. You know, it's a step down for steamboat. Skill wise, the matches are not near going to be nearly as good. And the irony of it is, if we could just got through it, it would have made it would have made steam, but would have made Luger a much better pro wrestler. Yes. The more match time, the more in ring stuff, but Ricky did not like the direction. It was Anne, but look, what is she going to do? Who are you going to booking with? Comparative flair. Well, there's nobody that can do that. Right. So, and I'm not kissing players to ask the second kissing his ass, but he was a top of the mountain. There's nobody, it's made it tough, booking once. But I think also Ricky, you know, strong family man, I think he kind of probably I'm sure like a lot of guys and gals have some guilt when they're way too much from their children. That is her first responsibility, being a parent. Not being a baby face. So I think he got a little burned out. And he was ready to get off the road. I think as much as anything. And that's what he did. It's just amazing to me to think about his career in terms of when he's fresh off of the greatest WrestleMania match in history, two months later, he needs time off. It's never the same. He's gone several months later. Now he's fresh off the greatest trilogy. Anybody's ever seen and a former world champion now. He finally made it to the top of the mountain. A couple of months later, he's gone. If nothing else, our man was principled, he did it his way. And I can't help but wonder if that may be potentially hurt his standing in the conversation when people talk about all time greats because it feels like they always say, well, it's Shawn Michaels or Ric Flair. But man, if steamboat had worked continuously and not been so principled and taken some of these breaks and walked away when he felt like he wasn't getting a fair shake instead of powering through like flare more often than not did. He'd be mentioned up there with those guys. What do you know? Of course, yeah. A skill, build a bell, yes, Conrad without a doubt. Bell to bell, comparing steamboat of comparing many others a bus to vote would be absolutely erroneous. Not even close.

"Tonight, the world light heavyweight title is online when Japan's Dutch under liger defense's title against flying Brian, the World Tag Team titles at stake when the steiners go head to head against Ireland innocent and beautiful Bobby. The United States heavyweight title is challenge when ravishing Rick roof battles Ricky that dragon's steamboat and the world heavyweight title match the total package Lex Luger against his former best friend staying live from the back of his new walkie it's super pro to. There we are JR live from the Mecca in Milwaukee. We're all excited. We're fired up and we're ready to go. The feedback to the show is overwhelmingly positive. Melter observer readers, 89.5% thumbs up. Yeah. This time frame is never really thought of being one of the highlights for WC but WCW, but this show really is just a hell of a card and we're gonna run through it together. A few notes here before we kick off the matches. From the observer, it says a lot of people expected super brawl on Saturday, February 29th from Milwaukee to be the show of the year. While it was a virtual consensus that it was a good show, somehow expectations were so high that it didn't quite live up to the card of the year mark still, there was a legitimate match of the year contender on the show and most of the matches were good. The main event in which sting defeated Lex Luger to win the championship for a second time was a letdown for a pay per view main event, let alone a major world title change match preliminary figures we've received as of Monday indicated a buy rate around .6, which if it holds up nationally, has to be a terrible disappointment. While legitimately, some of this can be blamed on the increase in price from 1995 to 24 95, one can't blame a fallen purchases by almost half from starrcade on that. Part of it has to be attributed to the main event, not garnering enough interest. Considering on paper, this looked to be a great card and with the debut of Jesse the body Ventura thrown in, it says there's still a long way to go being one month before a WrestleMania priced at 29 95. Wow, remember those days where Russell mania was 29 95. But they've run pay per view shows one month before mania every year and always have done decent business. If the .6 holds up, that would be around a $2.35 million total gross. Jim, do you remember the pay per view buy rate being a disappointment at all? Not really, not specifically, Paul. It's just there's too much on my plate and everybody else's play quite frankly to worry about things you can't control. The buy rates in. Here's how it was received. This is how many people bought it. So not really. It's just time to move on. We got more shows today. Understood, well, it is a full house jam 4000 fans paid for a $67,000 house coming so soon after heard resigns. It has to show something that the company is doing right. You would imagine things seem to be moving well so far without herd, right? Yeah, it was progressing. It was progressing and there was an attitude change heard at alienated so many people on the roster that his departure seemed to take that dark cloud and move it to out of the way so you could see some sunshine. Well, Jim, the show opens with what many call one of the all time great matches. And it's pillman pinning liger in 16 minutes, 58 seconds to regain the WCW light heavyweight title. Pillman was legit working against doctors orders because of a back injury. There were so many hot moves in the smash that you couldn't even remember them all, but there were dives out of the ring. Hot moves in the ring, unique submissions, and all kinds of hot moves like power bomb, superplex off the top rope, German suplexes, and the like for near falls, which popped the crowd like it was Japan. There's the Japan reference. Yeah. For the most part, the crowd cheered both men. There was a USA USA chant when liger had pillman in the figure four, but almost immediately laggard in a somersault splash off the top rope to the floor, which got the crowd chanting Jew shinju shin. Dave says I sensed there was a solid percentage of the crowd that wanted to boo liger going in, but they couldn't. Anyway, describing it doesn't do it justice if you didn't see it, get a videotape. Well, you can watch it on peacock now. Finish saw lager miss a diving headbutt off the top rope and pillman pin him with a Japanese rolling crotch hold. Yes, that was. What? Yeah. A rolling crotch hold. A Japanese rolling break that out on dynamite. Is that the Japanese rolling crotch hold? We know that. Liger handed film in the belt and both guys hugged after the match to a huge ovation and the crowd heavily cheered both men when they left the ring four and three quarter stars. I don't even know if there's words for this match Jim, and the fact that pillman has a smash against doctors orders. Are you surprised lager didn't do more in the states? No, lager was a fixture in Japan. So is a visit to the states or sporadic.

"Pay day. See, that's what I love. You're honesty. It's right there. By the way, JR keep smiling. That's what he understood with. I'll try. I'll do my best, dude. There you go. JR, listen next week. It's super brawl two. 30 years ago from Milwaukee, Lex Luger took on sting for the WCW World title and what would be lex's last WCW match for three years, you get juice and liger versus Brian Pillman for the light heavyweight title. Yeah. I remember lager and pillman, more than any match on that card. I'm not an end up pat's a quiz on staying in legs. Yeah. I remembered liger and. Brian. The talent on this card is ridiculous. You're gonna get rude versus Ricky steamboat for the U.S. belt. You're gonna get on and Bobby Eaton. Okay? Defending the tag titles. You're getting to get Steiner's cactus versus Ron Simmons. I mean, you're sitting next to Jesse, the body. This is gonna be an epic card and lots of things I think that was a cowboy I've been watching. I think watch the book that I think watch book that card. The only thing I remember about that other the film and liger was. I forgot to pack a tie, says for you remember stuff like that on these shows. There you go. I forgot to pack a tie. And luckily there was a mall. Not nearby, and I went to that mall that morning of the show and bought me a new tie. But the little things like that, what you remember going to darely cowboys and not before and going over the card. What do you want? The thing I used to always ask Bill and I asked, this is Tony Kahn, I just asked this event. How do you want it to sound going off the air? What points do you want me to make sure I nail? As we leave the air. And cause every Booker should have a vision for the next chapter of the story that they're writing or booking, as they say in wrestling. So cowboy and I would talk about that. What do you want to do there? And sometimes he would get aggravated. At the restrictions, because the workers weren't as good as some of the workers cowboy had. In the mid south. Styles had changed. And you know, I don't know, it's just he was, but he was so smart. I learned so much from him. So, you know, I need to hear one of those gigs. I think Conrad interviewed cowboy right. Not yet, he's working on it. All he did, he hasn't. And if he has, he hasn't told me or anybody else yet, but I know it's something he's working on. Yeah, yeah. That's great. Yeah. And do it now. That's right. Watson's still sharp as a tack. And he's not getting any younger. I'm not make that terrific with Conrad. I think that would be fantastic. The three of you in the room together just talking wrestling. Unbelievable. Yeah, that gets silver.

"In. That was all it was one guy in a pay per view that we had out in phoenix and as we got closer to cannon became the question of what the hell are we gonna do. What what is the hall of fame induction. They were selling tickets to an event to a hall of fame inducting sting but god forbid i asked the question. Okay what is that said curiosity. What what is this. We are selling tickets to and the answer is well. It'll be a nice presentation and dinner and we'll inducting into the hall of fame okay. What exactly does that entail. And the only thing that had been thought out at that point was essentially that we would all get together and give staying watch. And everybody's happy people are gonna pay to eat dinner and have Dried chicken from the marriott. And watch dixie gibbs thing watch so try to get together with folks and tried to come up with some kind of a presentation and try to do something special for staying who is deserving of a hall of fame whether it be tna or wwe or wcw. Whatever he is a hall of famer is career is worthy of that so is trying to lay out a presentation. Who's going to induct him. Who who can we have from his past. Who can we have from his career. And then we have hulk hulk and that's good but since you only have one guy what is your show to the audience that is paying money to come and sit down and see this thing. So we wanted to have more people involved other than hulk in dixie sugata. Aj of all and then the suggestion was made. What about lex luger. Because lex luger was an integral part of stings history. They were good friends and thought it would be nice to have lex there. And she was fine with that but where it became. Tricky was when i said well much. Can we pay lex. And she was little dumbfounded at the suggestion that we might have to pay him anything which. I was a little dumbfounded that she was dumbfounded. Because i'm sitting there thinking here's a guy who's sitting home not doing anything. I don't know that he was hard but he was. Maybe a native money could use the money. And i didn't insult him and say. Hey you wanna come out and eat some really shitty chicken at the marriott name ducky buddy into the hall of fame. we'll pay. We'll pay your airline ticket. But you're going to have to room with bob ryder You know. I just didn't feel that was the way to approach this thing Finally got him a payday and we agreed to pay him something but the interesting thing had a little show pay him something which implies she wound up paying him you had kinda beat her up about to get him a little more. Yes and so we were trying to lay this whole thing out number. I'm talking in generalities about we've got all the talent there and she's like the the question comes back to me before i don't want to catch off again i'm sorry to this lurid and ask for any money. I wanna clarify that. No he didn't. I didn't want to go to him and ask him to do this offering him more. Want somebody to hear this and think oh and was negotiating for more money. That's not absolutely not wanted to go and convince pays guys five grand to do the deal. I don't think that that's super cafe number. If you participate in the hall of fame you're going to check five grand. Thanks for playing I assume that the tna chac was a fraction of that. Whatever you guys gave luger but even getting that to that point was a struggle with dixie. Okay got i didn't want to cut you off. I just didn't want the board to say all lugar negotiated more money. Not sure and so going forward. I'm trying to lay out stuff. And the subject of talent comes up. And someone. And i don't even remember who ask so you asked me i. I really don't remember who asked but they said well do we take the we deduct from the talents pay for the hall of fame banquet. How should we do that. Oh my god the dinner the shady chicken and the sweet tea. Yes you know thinking to myself you've got the this. This is a rib. Well no because it's like twenty four dollars or twenty eight dollars ahead and you want talent to be there and eat for free so it was It was an uphill battle. And finally i went through the craziness of asking talent to show up if you'd like to go to the hall of fame which they should want to go to the hall of fame inducts thing be. They're not gonna ask you pay thirty dollars for shitty chicken and unsweetened and once we get through that and come up with a decision that hey we'll make it an added. A deal will sit the talent with fans in the audience and we'll have a talent per table but dixies come back to that was just ask which talent wanna come and we'll just use the that wanna be there. Some of them probably won't wanna come. Which was insulting to me and insulting to staying. And that's me saying it was insulting staying. Not him saying it I just thought it was shitty. But that's how they did it so laying out this little production and guess who is the only person that shows up on time actually early to go over the show that day ahead of the ceremony. Staying.

"You didn't know what they were going to do. You didn't know what havoc or chaos they were gonna cause but they decided to come in and at first they were unsigned quote unquote to individual racers. That you knew from up north quote unquote who actually were already signed. They became a regular part of wcw nitro. And we're still called the outsiders but they were creating quite a stir and they were creating quite a stir with the top level card when you had the stings. He had their macho man randy savage lex luger and all led to a situation where it was the three on two. Because you didn't know what was going on at that point in time one hundred percent but it was three onto at bash at the beach. Twenty sixteen situation. Where was lex luger. Macho man savage and sting against the outsiders hall nash with a mystery partner for the mystery partner. Wasn't there so what would happen. It kinda seemed obvious when you look back on now who was going to be that third partner. I remember that time. A lot of people just thinking was going to be him but they weren't one hundred percent. Sure his act. As far as hulk hogan got stale in wcw. The red and yellow was starting to wait a little bit. He was starting to get booed a little bit more and more. Tell me your thoughts about going in and watching that as it unfolded. That was everybody's hero if you think about it back and w won't even know what i mean. Cliche wise. he wasn't mine either. I didn't take my vitamins. Just 'cause he said too. I liked the bad guys at that time against alley. Yeah i only like to hogan was cheating because he would always go back and they have that he'll style that style even baby faced in the world it made sense for them to flip the script. Ingo wait no. He's nobody's hero. He's not telling you to eat anything. Tv had that moore sonal came off in a darker way. Yeah amy he had signed with. Wcw he had done stuff done thunder in paradise. Stunt some stuff tv music or something like that he Anyways was by then as well too. Yeah and did some stuff but none of it was really clicking and we saw the declining value of hall cocaine and hulkamania. We start to see as far as not necessarily ratings per se because the ratings for wcw started to get some more notoriety. They start to build up a little bit more dollars. As far as what was being supported to them. As far as their production values concerned nitro came on and was becoming a bigger and bigger success. Going head to head on monday night and it all led to the thing where again as the months preceded it you started to see less less enthusiasm overhaul cogan. And those bruce become more audible so he decided to call an audible. And i think it was one of the best moves of his career. I went from an individual who could not stand koken tune individual that really appreciated kokin in the nwa even know his iconic promo that he cut when he ended up coming into the ring as the mystery partner and stabbing the back of all the hulk maniacs and going ahead and sabotaging the match and lake dropping live around the world. Yes the leg drop hurt round world on randy savage neck. I think he did it three times. If i remember correctly as i was watching it today and as the trash of an unheard of amount and unseen amount before flew into the ring he gave off one of the best promos of his career but he couldn't help it mess up he new world order..

"You know there's no way for us to To talk about the lex luger story and not address. One thing that i think. He's sort of been handled unfairly with. I'm talking about miss elizabeth. A lot of fans And we've got a lot of questions about it and we're not going to go through them all but a lot of fans sort of point the finger at legs and say. Oh well miss elizabeth. I don't think that's fair to lex You know there's sadly been there's been a lot of people who we fell in love with as wrestling fans in the wrestling profession. Who lost their life way. Too early new to a lethal combination of drugs and alcohol. And i don't know that it's necessarily fair that wrestling fans sort of point the The ugly stick lex luger in that regard for her. It's personal accountability. You know for instance bam bam bigelow. He passed away no seven And it was an accidental overdose. Type situation just like miss elizabeth. But i think wrestling fans have convinced themselves that the real life missile is bliss. Was this you know. I don't know how pristine snow type character that we saw with with the macho man back in the eighties but the real life that that's not a real life in real life. She drugs and alcohol. She did too much one day and she lost her life. But that's an it's not like luger's holding her down and making it. No you get what i'm saying here. Yeah it was made out to be the he'll it's not famous too pristine. She was too much of a. You know the girl next door. Our tv character That that w. w. f. developed along the savage was You know tv character. Yes and You know i. I can't speak to that real well. Because i just never had any relationship with her at all well but the point is jim even if i'm just let's pretend from even if we're going with the idea that oh he was a bad influence on her. Where does the personal accountability come in. Like she's an adult. Yes she's here's an adult of macaroni decisions and the decision. Say when she died. The i'm i'll admit i'm guilty too because my preconceived notion of miss elizabeth was that of a essentially a southern belle. Yes and That didn't have any negative baggage right so when i heard that she died of a drug overdose i two said well that must have been That trained must have been driven by lex so he changed. He changed from the lex express to something else areas driving. But let's not like you said. He can't be blamed for her have. It's no and some people are listening to. This is going to disagree with that. And that's your prerogative folks. I'm not gonna you down well at the same time. If that's true then you know. What's the is the difference that there's a romantic relationship. Because i mean can we blame lex luger for bam bam bigelow untimely death or big boss man's or recruits or paintings. No i mean at the end of the day. these are grown. Elizabeth was forty two years old and she made poor choices that caught up with her and cost her life. And it's sad but it doesn't necessarily mean we should all blame lex luger and he's been nas for a long long time on that deal and and i can only imagine from his perspective no matter the circumstance when you lose someone who is that big of a part of your life and it happens right in front of you. That's gotta be god awful tragic. Yeah it is and it's not fair not fair to have to live with that more days than not so. That's a good point. You bring up a very good point. Conrad you know. She's got the miss. Elizabeth has to be held accountable for her own actions if She was being manipulated to doing. Excessive amounts of of life threatening drugs and alcohol at the behest of her beloved. Lex not have a different story there but we don't know that fans just created that narrative you know i grew agree with you so bottom line is that she s to be accountable for our own actions and people should stop blaming lex luger remiss elizabeth's death. Yes and when they do that they'll probably feel better about themselves that no. There's no way in hell that i did. I i was one of those people though On thinking oh x. heard alexis party and real heavy and all this good stuff And so that's got to be italian there somehow someway so then instead of not. Not really vilifying still putting the blame where it needs to be a lot easier to lex because again. He not embraced himself to a lot of people. And that's why one of the reasons the head is issues in wrestling was and he didn't get over because he didn't connect to the audience he lex luger was not a beloved character. Miss elizabeth was a beloved character. So you go to the vega and the bad guy in this scenario and the eyes of many folks was the male of the lex. So i don't know i but the bottom line the bowl and this deal.

"And maybe we blew it in an educated way. Maybe we didn't really blow it. Maybe just the the Will change their minds. You know against can be hot or cold sometimes and I think during that. Summer's up wanted out earlier. I think it's funny finally said as it's not gonna work right and and and a lot of open motors would be looking at their expense sheet saying how much i spent on promoting this guy not interesting man. He didn't he didn't he didn't live that way he just move on. And that's kind of what i think. They decided to do with lex until somewhere about winter. You know well some aromas coming up. Let's let's Let's try this one more time right. Let's make sure now because you see other guy looks to make sure. Now that that we're not screwing this thing up and And and as as it worked out Red heart was the answer. Not lex luger. Let's talk about Lex at the end of wcw. You know it feels apparent. That jeff jarrett was persona non grata. When w w goes down. vince publicly. Fires him on tv. But we haven't really talked about lex luger. Was there any interest in lex. I mean we know that buff gets shot. Why didn't lex get a shot with the company was even discussed. I discussed very seriously. 'cause you know the old liver doesn't change its spots. He's he's a high dollar Guy that's not a top guy okay. He perceived as a top guy again. Look at the kasa character. The team he was on. Cw before wwe. Yeah he your father-in-law star and So you know credit. The nate's on that deal. As i said earlier he didn't have this nature boy and wwe he didn't have the one of the most respected guys and tire issue. The business Taken by the hand and trying to lead into the promised land. So i think that we're probably in the short answer would be the ship had sailed. We were done. So i i. I don't remember any I don't remember any serious discussions about bringing back in for a second run after the Minneapolis nitro thing. Not at all chat me up. The you remember talking the lax after he leaves the wwf. I mean obviously you did. I know you did a podcast with him years later but when is the next time you inlex have a conversation might have been then not much. I wasn't real close with it. I didn't dislike him. I his attitude. Sometimes it's a little bit stressful. Because he's he didn't have a big keen sense of urgency sometimes I remember one time. We ran Or was we ran event and nassau coliseum. Thank isn't a new york area. I think it was. Nassau might have been east river new jersey. i'm not sure but some one of those markets and he was up. I was helping produce a show and it was his. You know he was next and as a high level match and he was just taking this time. Music sleigh and and I remember saying something you know. Come on last guy down there waiting on you you know. It's like take it easy. Jr just take it easy so okay have out of town. You know you knew when. You're coming on i you know. There's no reason started discussion right. What is there to to discuss. Assist was a good so we didn't have a close about the only. The person to lex was staying in the in the wcw. All those years. I'll sure other guys so he's a friend of mine you know we'd talked. Would or i go there. Jim and workout or whatever but a lot of guys that he didn't he wasn't outgoing so To me or anybody else. In that respect so i don't think i i don't remember talking to him. What are you going to say right. I say good luck you know. If you do great the the obligatory stuff but you know it was really meaningful. I don't know it's lip service to me but No i i. Don't i don't re- i didn't have the relationship with conrad that would have prompted me to To seek him out on that. And in hindsight i wish i added probably gonna smart move for me this and more important the right thing to do right but it just wasn't that way. We're.

"Productive way And had a marriage with some other town on the roster. That's that's what be booked on house shows. I didn't go like If lex luger program with ludvik borgo on television. That's what you're going to see at the house shows in some form so I didn't go all 'cause not your booking matches in house shows and expect them to sell tickets. Why the hell would that happened. Right so no. I never list like that. Maybe i should. I didn't. I didn't know that i recall. Also wanna mention the reason this. This war has heated up as again nitrous coming up head to head with monday night raw and for years and years the wbf has been so far ahead of wcw. They've lapped them twice. I mean they're not real competition but now when it feels like well damn. Tnt's a big station and they're going live every week and their head to head. It feels like okay. Maybe we do have some real competition here. Even though he hadn't been the top guy is a valuable talent. Meltzer continue the claims that after luger in wb reached their verbal deal on august thirty first lugar called mcmahon up the next day but never told him about any negotiations or informed him of anything luger continued to work. The canadian house shows through the sunday night before he showed up on the nitro in minneapolis. Lugar never called mcmahon after august thirty first and as of this past week in he still had called so he question for you on that. Yeah so meltzer. Fairly talkative events. Or lex or bruce or somebody somebody right i mean how would he know that right. He did a deep dive. Impact is shit and there. it was Yeah i I was not involved. That was the best deal and again. I wasn't in a position that affected yay or nay And i think that was. And that's why. I think it's been eventually sought people to reorganize that Talent relations department so when he went change quit against the opportunity to fix what he perceived that needs to be updated and re re re evaluate our roster and are we getting value there were paying et cetera et cetera. So that's where. I came in along with bruce. Obviously that was kind of our goal to to to make the we gotta quit re purposing. People get stopped repackaging people. That's not new people. Want do as i said they in times and we weren't giving them new. We're just gonna repackage again. That code paint h my new whole also new boots create a new finish whatever but it was still the same person and and at some point in time. Just got tag out. So let's just run through the time. Line august twenty seventh the summer slam ninety five where he's involved in the main event he's gonna do tv tapings and can't ohio on the twenty eighth and he's going to do tv tapings in erie. Pennsylvania on august twenty ninth as both for superstars on the thirtieth The companies touring through niagara falls. He's in the main event by the way tagging with shawn michaels to take on men on a mission and the next day the thirty first there in nova scotia and again luger's in the main event on the thirty first. They did double shot. There's a show in ontario another show in ontario on the first again. It's a double shot with a new brunswick the same day on the first and once again lugar is in the main event. There's a show on the second in brantford ontario on the third there in saint john's new brunswick and by the way that's going to be lex luger's very last match and once again it's the main event. The main event is the intercontinental champion. Shawn michaels taming with lex luger to take on the tag champs. Oh and and yoko and it's luger's last match because he's gonna leave new brunswick and he's gonna go to minneapolis and make debut on monday nitro so sunday night. He's with you in the main event monday night. He's on the other channel. It's pretty impressive. Little cu for eric. Bischoff and company is an yeah. Yeah it was And obviously we were unaware that lex is looking at bolting. Yeah or he. The booking would have been different. He wouldn't even book that we he certainly wouldn't have gone on last. Oh so Yeah it was pretty is a pretty good Get for eric's and the plan worked very well. It seems to me like because again when luger walked out on nitro there in minneapolis. It was a big deal. It makes fries those well. You know if that have been now it would've it would have been trending that night big time. you know. this is a big deal. More trending so anyhow. Yeah it was a well. Kept secret is a good gift for eric. A well well laid out plan that they worked to perfection. When when lex leaves i mean. Obviously he's working on the main events but did you see it as a loss. I know that that sounds really ugly. And i don't mean for it. To but bruce sort of explained on something wrestle that when he and pat see the monitor and see lex show up supposedly passes. He's their problem now or something. I could see that chat me up though did you. Did you feel like god. Damn what could have been. He slipped through our fingers. We lost him or was it. Okay now we tried everything. Conrad there was for more was her to do the lex airplane. The bus there next airplane You know i. We tried all these things and the company itself shot themselves in the foot at that summer sandwich chicago when luger at a chance to be a made man and become the champion and see what it would have done to business to tv ratings to live event ticket sales cetera etc. But we blew it.

"I was in The cw so I don't know i i was. I was employed making money. But i wasn't happy and i didn't i didn't that didn't play well a lot with a lot of people and i and i have had to do all over again i would just shut the fuck up. Been quiet Cash bank my checks and mahaffey had a job. But i was so damn hungry that i needed had i had to do more to keep it to the epi and that was aaron judge on my part quite frankly well. The summer slam show was one of the last times. We'll see lex luger. He's not booked on the actual card but he is going to be around for the main of it on the baby face side of things But very quickly. We have a problem with lex luger. He's gonna wind up jumping to nitro. You're not involved in talent relations at the time this is on. Jj's watch right. yeah. And i'm curious from your perspective. Somebody who has been up and down the road with lex for a long time dating back to the crockett days and whatnot was was lugar sharing any of his frustration or unhappiness. Or anything like that with you or was he playing really close to the vest very close to the vest that was one of the issues that one could far has point to that That led to the locker room becoming strong. Bret hart supports lex. I've always thought had a good heart And we're seeing that today but he also is very introverted and very insecure so therefore a being so introverted and he laugh. I guess well how can a pro wrestler be successful introverted. Very good question. It can happen along. The light comes on the camera. Their red light comes on they can. They can perform But he was very quiet. So i didn't get any intel for him on on those things Whatsoever but you could. You didn't take a detective to figure out that he was not happy. He was even more quiet than he normally was. And he's saying to be disconnected emotionally from the brand and you know his dream of being the wwf. Champion was never going to happen. He realized that everybody else around and realized it. And so that great big pushy had with the buses and the traffic helicopters all that shit was assist to a memory and it was. It was a wasted. It wasn't wasted. But it was a experimented. Come to fruition. He had a hard time with that. As and so the boys you know measureless company and also if somebody saw somebody else uncomfortable or not happy then. All of a sudden private conversations would be held that would lead to bringing that topic up and adding salt to the woods. Sad to say. But that's kind of how this works sometimes so when you find out or how do you find out. Are you watching nitro when he shows up. Yeah yeah I can't remember if it was leaked. Or something i can't. I don't recall exactly the details. But i think i don't even know watching nitro at that time. Now you're not. I think a little bit more about it but i know that i got phone calls thinks that nature did you see nitro. See lugar whatever and and again you know. He makes us great verse impression. It looks great but You know i. I wasn't aware of his contractual issues. Good better indifferent. You know like. I said you said earlier. Jj was in charge of that. And i'm not blaming. Jj i'm sure. Jj wanted to do is to take care of business and and get the contract handle but it just didn't it didn't happen And on and i guarantee you this. This patterson Had bruce probably and i'm not point fingers at those guys They they had to be aware that This contract was and he was he was he was out of contract right. And that's you know. Same experience i You know just bad timing and and the other day it seemed like maybe meant to be hell. I don't know but So people know this isn't this isn't his head up so oh my god. I didn't realize this. They realized that they knew. And maybe they didn't care. But i think the last thing they thought it was just walk out and then walk in to the mall of america in minneapolis and.

"Well it is the end of the earth or so feels like for luger here when he's Quickly going to move to the backseat. Yoko and take her sort of married here. And it's going to be fighting. The on americans and the taker yoko program gets real hot and now there's a bunch of cheers for bret hart. It feels like brett is firmly in the catbird seat to be the next big star. It's not going to be lex luger as the next hulk hogan windy. You remember that. Sorta settling in on. Not just vince. But the rest of the office because it does feel like we're looking for our next hogan and and we're not sure the lex can be the gob we're giving it the. Oh the oh college trough but then sort of reemerges as now. It's it's still brad. It's going to be brad. And it was a stop. And start for brent. They had tried this before. And yoko beat him and hogan came back. And we've covered that with wrestlemainia nine but now it feels like okay. We've come to our senses. It really is brad. Do you remember there being a moment time when that happened one moment no i know it would have been after summer slam. Probably was before summer slam caused it. The commitment have been made conrad to go with lex it would have been that would have that. We that would have been a decision would have been made prior to summer slam whether you're going to have the match the title. Yeah and yoko and lex. So i'm saying that sometime that summer after the intrepid before august Ensure came back with a guilty verdict. We're not gonna we're not gonna go there and again And i and i applaud pat. you know. The pat was the vo tae of breasts. A lot of us were a lot of guys are kind of older. School believed in brush working ability. The fact that he was he didn't hurt people as i said earlier in the fact that he was dirt. Durable fundamentally sound and and he was not a spot oriented guy he was arrested and that's why he got over and we're still talking about it now because he can do a hurricane rana and south assassin ahead but just the fact that rhett was that good and i think it's just unfortunate that he was never given until later on the credit that he deserved for being arguably the best in the world. There was a time there where you know. Well it's always. It's always sean. It's always this guy. This red heart guy. I wouldn't want to leave him out of any discussion. Who's one of the best workers ever. That would make no sense to me. So i think that somewhere along that summer was discovered or realized whatever that Lex is not going to be the answer unfortunately and But you know it sounds kind of guys say well. We spent all this money on conrad. We've got to continue on. the course. mcmahon is big about cutting us losses. He's off something he's also. I can take him experience so And he doesn't need a specific reason this a gut feeling and he'd always say he's told this meet my trackers good. Jr trackers pretty good and it is look where you are in the market share globally. It's not just like you run. Your little northeast territory right. You're the the world is your territory. So i think you've done pretty well. You're with your tracker. Well the royal rumble. It's a well remembered for the double finish. You know you've got luger and brad touching the same time scott to be A little nerve wracking from a production standpoint but they pull it off. What did you think of the finnish. Two guys types in the floor at the same time. This is the first time that has happened in the rumble. that was patterson finish and You know you can. You can make an argument. That may have been the argument that patterson gave dance. Who may have said well. Let's let's give luger one more try. That could have happened and pat says best. You know it's not gonna work. We've done everything we can form And been bradshaw guy and they come up with a finish for bread and lex. Both get spotlight. I didn't. I liked the finish quite frankly because it was different. We've always said here on the show wrestling fan slow things that are new and unique innovative and i look at that finish as just that very innovative and it kept the story alive to where you left the air with more questions than answers and i always think that's a good for i. Love the idea and ultimately does feel like. Hey this could be lugar's chance of course wrestlemania. Ten as we discussed he comes up short again. It's brands night. And he's not going to be the world champion here or anytime in the wwf after wrestlemania ten. He's off to feud with mr perfect again but it starts to feel like he's floundering a little bit. He's floating through the mid card with the likes of crush into talka- not to disparage those guys to say it felt like once upon a time he was going to be the world champ after wrestlemainia. Ten is it fair to say that. luger's characters just sort of going through the motions here in the wwf Well the lack of a better fresh probably going through the motions also signifies. Somebody's not pronounced any effort. They're not doing anything extra to get over. I'm not so sure. It was that extreme but for simplicity. He relax read the handwriting on the wall. I say his gold will be the champion was On in chicago summer slam. You tell us beautiful story you get there and you Nothing there's no climax made you know. I'm not going to detail analogy but nonetheless It just there's no payoff and the fans felt let down and then they felt that will. He's not our guy..

"The steroid guys you know A warrior kind of guy who their mindset is so tied to their look that when they see themselves you know one of those icy lexa tv and And i would even bo companies and he knew us bullshit but for a second there he would he would really have been relaxed a little bit and sell for my of bullshit. I seem all time to say. Hey manny are you feeling alright yeah remain. Oh nothing really. What do you mean. Look the flu or something lost. Wait another weight off and that was bothering of course. There are so dependent on their look because they knew that they weren't that great bell to bell. They weren't great enough build a bell To you know There weren't built a bell to just let that that work be foundation of your your career. Because now they're looking at. They're looking at their. Their physique is so much a part of presentation and a lot of guys. They come off the stock the sauce. They lost a lot of confidence. They they thought they lost their ace in the hole will be the greatest worker a might not be a funk or briscoe or some of that stuff flare shawn michaels. But and that era but at least so when they go off the sauce they still look good. Conrad you and i would take lex. Leadership zeke off right now. Yeah if i had this zeke. I would not even i do the show shirtless. Yeah pantheon yeah he just be down at the pool all day flexible. Yeah that's silly. So i think that the steroids has a as a multiple can have multiple facets to your to your psyche I know a lot of guys that want to rationalize and say well. I do the steroids. I've done the steroids or recovery. And i'll say okay. I'll i'll i'll go out on a limb here and give you that but let's be realistic. You're doing steroids. Because it makes you look now. How helps you recover. And i think that this event saw lex you know he's he wasn't the same head-turner smaller sized downsize. Lex luger was not as impressive. Welcome to the airport as a bigger lecture if that makes any sense yeah so i think that's kind of where that that's that's for. That story kind of comes together. Sort of steroid. Circuits are personally. I'm not against roy's if you wanna you if you're under doctor's care and you're getting all your blood work done and you're adhering to the medical practices this you're being managed by dr have added but Other than that You know if you're self medicating on anything that's wrong. And if you're using steroids as if i just got on the gas i could get over. Total bullshit. I guess i'll get over total bullshit. I've always believed that but at the same time. Sounds like a american politician I believe that If they're property managed and under doctor's care it's not the end of the earth. It's okay you can admit you're skeptical about mock commercials about save with conrad.

"This. I don't believe i can't recall anyway. Ever doing more for talent to hopefully get them over that he did for lex in that era. It was extraordinary. That was the focal. Point of the company was lex luger. I haven't media posters. Emerged all this stuff i. I'm fascinated by vents in this dynamic. It almost feels like vince. Sort of sees himself as lex luger. I know that sounds crazy but follow me down the rabbit hole. I believe that. Vince fashions himself as a super patriot. That be fair to say. Oh yeah so am ahead. Hey i'm your hero. A man of the people of about america. I've got this great physique. I can defeat these other guys from these other countries and but he's even forcing the word hero here in the song where he's trying to reiterate. Hey this is our top guy. This is our baby face. He is our protector. He is our superhero. If you will. And i don't know i think a lot of there's a famous story out there that when comes up to the wwf of the very first time. When he meets with patent vince. When vince leaves the room of course. Drc says to pat. What do you think. Because he's sort of explaining this gimmick but he won't tell him what it is and he says. I'll tell you this. If vince were a wrestler this would be his gimmick. And he's about the million dollar man and i feel like eventually if vince where a wrestler he would wanna be this patriotic version of lex luger. He would want all body like fat. Souped-up is that makes sense. Yeah all jacked up looking great. Yes turning heads yes. People look in the airport all those things. Yeah i could see that quite frankly alexis alexis on a good spot. There you know again. It's it's not. I don't we. All these shows like this are podcasts. Podcast in general we we look for the negative sometimes I don't know whose fault it was. So then you almost go right back to the talent. Because could the company have done anything. More conrad To get less over than some of the things they were doing that were very unique in that generation for motion and marketing And we wouldn't be having a conversation like this probably if it had worked if it had worked have been one of the most brilliant rollouts of any pro wrestler ever yeah And it it just it it but it didn't work and i just think that you know some guys are blessed with a they used to say about johnny valentine johnny johnny valentine one of the greatest workers have all time the father greg the hammer all that good stuff it took him longer to quote unquote get over the most guys coming into territory and some would say maybe even a year of his style was deliberate physical somewhat snub say the least. It took him a while to to quote unquote get over. But once he got he was it was evergreen. He was over and it would extend his stay in a territory. And that's what guys looking for. Because they want to able to keep your kids at school same school for more than than normal. They wanted to hear less than their wise or significant others regarding packing up and traveling caused the rest of did a little of that. They went onto the territory and got started working. Which generally the wise take care of the schooling the backing the moving etc so the voice had it easy. They're they're working. They're giving to their own families or often not satisfy so But at this thing at work. Conrad we'll be talking about lex liberals apart and one of the greatest promotional Tactics in history pro wrestler. Yeah the bottom line is at the end of the day as we all know spoiling the ending of the story. Here it didn't get to the level that this had hoped it would it. Wasn't he's going to be are eastern. Be the next hogan level and their approach that really. So who do you blame right. Promotion are this fact. That talent didn't connect. And i believe it's the ladder and that's not a knock on lex. I i'm like you. I've myron elections where he is in his life right now and he's changed. His demeanor has glossies found. Found the lord that he's comfortable and he's happy and that's all that matters if you're happy and he's and he seems to be happy living in a life that a lot of would not have a hard time being happy and so i don't know man i think that i think that At the end of the day the rush to get lex over some talents. React well and our responded to well when they when they got the heavy push yes sucking word again But let's be honest about it at the end of the day. It's going to be the town that connects to the audience. And and lex had that had an issue there and i think we force fed him a little too much. Where you start getting that backlash think about how The perfect baby face push us or for the rock rocky ni- via and shit all over it too much. Let me up. And i think that's kind of where we were. Lexus was in a let me up situation that you know everybody was going full speed ahead here. We go and.

"A stab at it. The lex express is the idea of going to criss cross the country but he doesn't wrestle his first wrestling match after body. Slamming yokozuna it's for the us w. a. in memphis at the mid south coliseum and he's going to defeat kyoko in a non title match tar. Listen i understand that. Vince as that famous clip out there. That says we make movies. I get that. But if we're to criss cross the country and try to get this guy over. Should we not have you know winsome fucking matches. What did you think of that creative. Well it was just a different philosophy. Connor i bet she just marketing. You know it was the o. Barnstorming tour you know. Jack dempsey barnstorming tourism boxing. But he back in the day. He didn't fight never tale right. It's all publicity and and the it was expensive. Have driver an attendant. You know guys like him have to eat every three hours so seriously somewhere thereabouts and they gotta eat certain things not like you have me on the on the conrad express. We're gonna stop whatever fucking open. We don't care yeah burgers pizza. You got any barbecue whatever's there we're gonna eat it. He wasn't that way you know he he had to have. This is grilled chicken breasts and all those things and balance cards. I'll say that he's very dedicated. I eight but i can see why i think that's why we we. He didn't wrestle as much the other thing. Was you know we knew that that was the marriage. It's going to be yoko and lex. Obviously yoko in the champion. It was thought that alexa be the next champion. But this wanna make sure that lex had always is dotted. He's crossed as related to work with yoko. That's why they went off. Broadway down in memphis and how to run three. See how that was going to be. Because everybody's got to kind of figure out their next their dance partner new music and all that good stuff so that was all done to protect the less because we knew what we had yoko. Obviously so i think that's the that was based freeze. just publicity. Bartering publicity and then they shoot all this video footage and these towns salt crowd a little bit. So there's a crowd there. It's like a lot of the owed. I always compared to the politicians on the train. You know it's just a you had to have a crowd there and then that crowd made the news this newsreel. Thanks back in the day. So now you've got your camera crews with you there. Twenty four seven and they can feed back this footage to stanford for the for the vignettes and all the stuff in the in in our tv shows so he was oh television a lot but in a controlled way to help create his image and the is to have tell me about the lex express as a concept. I mean this is the first time. I remember something like this being done in wrestling. What did you think of a. We're gonna put lex luger on a bus and you knew lex luger. The the real guy behind the character What do you think he thought of the lex express concept. Well i know he thought he wanted to get over. Yeah for sure. And i know that he wanted to get to the next level where the big money waiting But i don't know how How how motivated. He was to live on that bus for awhile. You know Some guys could make a just fine so guys feel like they're being you know strangled Squeeze squeeze a little bit. He never told me that exactly. But i know that when i would see him raina He would say something along the lines of just good ago at the best for a while. Because like i said being challenging for sure so Here's a tour bus kind of what it was. The lex express had had all the vanities. Tv bed the bed fitting goes. You're so damn big but nonetheless. I think that he was happy. When it got off the bus from time to time and stretch his legs fresh air and all that good stuff. So i think it started off just fine but the it's one of those deals for if i can endure the schedule and in coexist living on the bus. If i might just get over finally. I think that's what lexus county on to get over. Because he had this is i. He had been support and he had advanced had again that hulk hogan image of you know big muscular guy. Yeah all that. Good stuff so But i i'm sure challenging is hell. It would be for me. I could tell you that. What did you think of the. I'll be your hero music video. Do you remember that vaguely. I wanna play it for you. Because i know that you're really excited about it. I i can tell glad and worrying darks.

"Saami you know damned in isolation and obscurity But i didn't know what a narcissist was. He's i'd worked with plenty of didn't even know it But i thought we could have done better on that on that deal but it it it did get some attention. I guess that's the object. Get attention when ernie debut you know this is going to take care of it. Real well on his win loss record and i said this before. I don't know that i've ever. I can't recall. Maybe somebody put my head later. You remind me somebody that. The vince tried harder to get over the lex luger. The promotional of manifestations alexa express the intrepid yokozuna although sakes were were major elements in trying to establish leks as somebody very very special eventually worked his ass off to confidence those things. So we can't ever. I don't think we'd give blame. Mcmahon luckily often do in this business for everything. I don't think we can blame vance for lex not getting over to the level that was perceived for him to become convinced. It everything you do it just you know somewhere along the way you have to connect with your audience and sometimes and there's no time for that sun guys connect right away and some guys connect years later so i think that's where i stood on that i thought could better job of introducing him but i i know the effort was there. And that was just the first phase of of The narcissist stuff you know so in any event. He's he got he got promoted. Well i can tell you that. He got promoted well. And expensively do you think he felt like just based on look alone. Hey this could be my next hulk hogan of course absolutely. I think you was at one time. Fully believed that lex luger would be his next hogan and The issue there is is that you know. I i will tell you. I thought wax was a lot better athlete than hogan. But he didn't have hogan's kristin you know whether we like hoeger he don't like hogan or or you know he's he wasn't never a great worker and all that stuff was what is a great word. Conrad right fuck is a great worker. He flies a headlock correctly. he doesn't leg slap or is it somebody that draws money with some other draws money is a key component. How do you say hogan was a great worker. He threw money a pull the wagon asking those cats on the on the cards back in the day. Or so w w f time what What car do you want to be on. I want to be on hogan's car get their booking sheets the first thing look for the warriors hogan booked and now my own that car. Because we know it's going to draw. So i think that was the issue with lex that charisma thing and that's not a san by the way. I'm not knocking the guy i mean. There's a lot of guys didn't have oh conspiracy. Hugh did as a matter of fact. I do think that's really believe that. That alexis had all the attributes. Sars athleticism primarily the look To could be articulate. Here's a little different. He's a departure from hope. But i think that was the mindset we may we may have our next hogan and so that we so that journey began. I've just fascinated by that advance. Who knows so much about wrestling and boy. Some of our listeners just laughed but he he understands how to promote and how to connect with the audience and what's going to quote unquote get over whatever you wanna call it but to just boil it down to well the cheer hogan because he looks a certain way and candidly i. I'm only here talking to you about wrestling. Because of hulk. Hogan i was a little hulkah- maniac and i'm a big hawk maniac. I'm a big fan of his big on. I am just big. But i'm just saying there's no i. I don't see how you could make the leap to say well. He's got a better body than hawks so he'll be just as big and i don't think that was a case. Okay i think it was a field. Same maybe some of the same things that attracted you to hogan. Yeah the charisma is what got all over me. I mean hit the silly hand gestures and oil. You know something. Oh that that worked for me as a little kid and luger just didn't have any of those almost feel like lugar could be I dunno even compare him to the ultimate warrior wouldn't be fair because a warrior had a fantastic body. But you know lugarda didn't have the i'm gonna run to the ring and the crazy music and blah blah blah anyway. Let's keep it going. Let's talk about win a lot to unpack your conrad. Let's let's talk about when we hit the reset button and that's really why we're talking lex luger today. Of course we had originally hoped to do lex luger all in one episode. But as you like to say jim because lord knows i would never say something like that. There's so much unpack here. There's no in one episode so We split it up and the reason we decided to split it up and do it. Today is because of the fourth of july. Which of course is right around the corner. And that's really when the lex express is born so the narcissist is put to rest And here we go with the reset. Were you involved at a at any of the Quote unquote office. Discussions about Sort of getting a A a new a new coat of paint as bruce likes to say not not really too much in depth. I mean vincent say you know what do you think you know you work with him. Etcetera etcetera kind of guy is he thinks like that. Just get back around. I was i was involved in.

"Mr jim rawls jim. How are you man good. Conrad i'm ready to rock and roll. Finish out this compelling lex luger story as we're going to pick it up today. from wrestlemainia nine. And you told me so. Yeah the next time you lex. I was actually there for that or not. So the But we got good responsible last liver show. He's very polarizing character. Is one way of saying. I think so. It should be fun. as as a as a urban meyer would say this is a deep dive and as as one of my best friends says. There's a lot to unpack here. Let's keep it rolling. I am pumped to keep it rolling and talk about the lex express and all of that. Entailed lex luger. I think when i was a kid. He's got to be one of my top five favorites. He looks like a real life action. Figure and of course you know. Don't get me wrong i'm still alexa. Gra fan but now more alexa lugar fan of the man because i had the good fortune of meeting him and man. I know there's some stories about olex. Was this way and lex. Was that way. I cannot stress how much respect and appreciation. i have for lex luger. The person as we're talking here today in twenty twenty one so i'm just pumped to talk about it man. I think he's a fascinating individual. I think he's got one hell of a story and to To be on the other side of of so much stuff. And it's that's a great place is really remarkable. It is yeah. He said he's another one of those guys. So we did the magnum ta show it weeks ago and imag got a bad hand dealt him and then lexus kind of saint category. You know there's health issues or or been very challenging. So i think he has taken on a different perspective now than a lot of fans had of him early earlier when he was wrestling. And what did what attracted you to him. Zeke yeah i don't know i mean i was a big thing fan and a big scott steiner and rick starter fan so back in the day w w when i first started watching those guy. Those four were like inseparable. So you know. i mean sure. They're trying to take on the horsemen and all that. But that's like the cluster of good guys at the time. And i i guess you could probably throw in flying brian in their Maybe even zemun. But flying. Brian and the steiner brothers and stinging lex luger when i was a kid man that was. Wcw that was fun. Yeah yeah good group of guys a group of guys. I could tell you that. So well you know we covered Lacks going in only. I started the football you know. Is he played a lot of football. But it was kind of undistinguished. And i was just kind of got a burner my saddle because anytime you play at a d. one level anytime you get a opportunity to play professional football on any scale That they nothing wrong with that. And i thought that he Some people married that lack of football success to him. And i don't think that's fair so but in any event Where now to the part of lexus career had made the big jump finally yup and On oh vince always coveted lex and largely issue. The question he he was enamored by lexus. Look right how marketable is alexis. Look laws and And vincent body guy and lex certainly had a body and a very good one. Yeah let's talk about it. He was the he was the narcissist when he comes in i mean i guess we should sort of set the table. He he winds up coming over just as we finished a few weeks ago. meltzer predicted. Hey he's gonna come over and be a part of the wbf and as soon as his contract allows him to his start wrestling for the world wrestling federation and that is the way it shook out of course. Jr wasn't there for that Jr shows up at wrestlemania nine. So that's where we can really pick up the story but by the time you get there luger had already been wrestling for the wf for a bit and the The story had been. Oh he's got steal play in his forearm. And he's using that as his has finished which i guess is pretty creative. But the narcissist gimmick. I mean you were just talking about. How vince mcmahon and even lex luger himself or enamored with his physique as well he should be probably the best body maybe in the history of wrestling. He's got these I don't know ladies. I guess we call him accompanying him to the ring and they're holding the the mirror and he's posing and flexing. It's an idea. What did you think of the narcissist persona thought. We could have done better. Yeah but did hate it about thought. We could have done better. I had to get my dictionary. Narcisse even meant. I really did. I didn't know so And that's i the irony of that is working interesting all those years. I was nineteen years in the business. Before i got to wwe. So i wasn't exactly an overnight sensation even though there's previous nineteen years not.
