"I've said nothing. I'm just trying to explore text. Motor point you might be thinking not saying again not saying anything that doesn't make any sense and you might be wondering how we understand this relationship between trees and the bible then because if we own. This done wrongly really go problematic and often does and what does it mean. Whenever we couldn't read the texts and more to the point you might be wondering why trista been playing with a bandage while he's been preaching. I have been you have noticed. I tell you puzzle. Well i was thinking about this week. How do we understand this relationship between teas and the bible and what does it mean. What does it mean i always. I like an analogy. I like the picture. And i like to use a picture to help us. Try and grasp the list. And i think. I've got a picture. I think i've got an analogy and illustration like all analogies all his. It has its limits on item modest. It might be worst analogy ever done. I'll just let you know that right. Now it might be the worst illustration of done. But when i was thinking about this nothing about jesus relationship for the bible and what we do without means and what it means and what. It doesn't mean my mind went through story by hates g. Wells called invisible man. Anyone who it's really hard to put your now. Yeah yeah it's a great story to be more precise. I read some. Hdl's not read the invisible man. My mind actually went to the film's for anyone who's ever seen films especially the original nineteen thirty three black and white classic invisible or big abbott and castello fan like i am. I can anyone who abbott and castello a few of us of my generation nineteen fifty one comedy classical abbott and castello meet the invisible man. Highly recommended read lewiston. Somali Refugee Farmers Put Down New Roots in Rural US
"A group of somali refugees descended from slaves who escaped extortion rape and death in their home country and to live for years in baron refugee camps in kenya planting the seeds of a new life literally as immigrants in the united states. Visual Illusions Deceiving Neural Networks
"I i'm. Martine was the researcher at the university in barcelona spain. Welcome this show. Tell us a little bit about what you studied there. As i say. I started some years ago so now undoing Study was mathematics and computer science with them led me to computer science. Masterson abused deal nimitz processing on. Now we were basically in image processing ongoing recent techniques with For models that comes round this study obesity in humans. Got just so. I know we always hear this analogy. That's deep neural. Networks are kinda like the layers of the brain and i think sometimes neurologist cringe a little bit when we make the comparison but i'm not sure how much they cringe. Maybe some of its fair. What's your perception there on. The comparison between a neural network and artificial neural network and a human neural network. I will definitely creamed celso like us. Now it's an of the networks of course inspired Network this we all know that this simplification and naturally i think more and more people are working on trying to go from that simplification. some Actually are margaret. And you'd mentioned part of your work includes looking at models that are used. The word inspired but something along those lines from the human visual system. What are some of the ways in which one might be inspired in that fashion will actually. It's it's interesting because the model of activism neural network is inspired beecham's so when people started to look at how actually sees you start to mobile A stack of layers where we have some with some filters When we envision us oriented field. There's that can see recent vertical different frequencies To obedience actually like a very simplified note. Landlord say i'm not really someone knows a lot about the brain but i'm vaguely aware that our eyes are somewhat imperfect in the brain does a lot of cleaning up yet. I don't know if that's true in the more computer vision. I think our cameras are maybe more accurate than the human eye in some cases. And there's not quite as much cleanup. Are these fundamentally different approaches. Or at the end of the day do both systems have basically the same day to set. Nah i think it's a analogy because there's a bar that is only the information that we receive from the exterior. Let's say the luminance of they're seeing on the This on bar. But of course we don just see that we processing formation on this is why we say that we actually we perceive information because there are some other things that are happening in our brain taking this information on combining with everything that we know from the beginning memories although stop so we actually is when we see at camera. recording is actually taking just some information soon so the analogy would be computer. Actually tried to do this analogy so when you put so not. What's behind those cameras. Tried to do something without information. Either retail They're like following someone. Then you're more or less doing this analogy how ac. Because when we see we are doing something with information is it not only just preceding the light which is the dot com era's i saw perceiving and processing. Then is that right. yes exactly. Yeah it makes sense. Well the main work. I invited you on to talk about with the paper titled convolution neural. Networks can be deceived by visual illusions. I thought maybe we should start with a definition of a visual illusion in my mind. I'm picturing like the image where it's either a candle or two faces or maybe some. Mc art is there a formal like mathematically satisfying definition of what a visual illusion is own. Think so. I think it's something that you see one but is not so easy to describe. I would say that the these right is something. By general it would be some images stimulus usually name it that actually cows illusion in your rain and illusion will women with any lewiston. Is that what you perceive is not consistent with reality. So we've got mr light actually with photo mentors for instance and we can measure a color. That is different from the one that we are proceeding. So that's obvious lucille. When actually the reality perception are not in the same face

"You know the salmon on the Klamath and Trinity system? Um, think of. Ah, I don't know. It's just leased a couple of 100 miles of river between the The clam off and the trinity. Probably more than that. The de salmon and steelhead can be in. Um and we we talk about this. Time of year. We talked about the lower end of it because they've got to come through the lower but a lot of them sneak through. Those that do they get up in a river and you've heard us talk about how good the ocean conditions are for Sam and, well, The proof is in when you get a salmon well up river. And he's still in beautiful shape, just like he came out of the ocean. Well, Matt Mitchell, who fishes the Trinity almost exclusively in the fall months. Ah, I caught him. Justus. He was getting out of the trinity and taking his customers back that her car in Lewiston. We had a nice talk about what kind of a day Matt, I catch you on the Trinity River on expected you to be fishing low on the Eternity River. But you were you were more on the upper section. Let's call Junction City, the upper sect the beginning of the upper section catching salmon. How made you get today? I think we landed eight and hooked 14. The day I've had all year. Wow, I know you were fishing for Springer's earlier You think he's at the tail end of the Springers or the first of the fall run, fear. In my opinion there, probably first the fall run fresh because we had some Springer squirting through in June and July. S O. I think these are probably the beginning of the fall run fish. They were in good shape. Beautiful fish. Ah, what was the average size? So probably £8. We got one. The last fish We caught. Today was a nice £25 butt, though. It's beautiful fish cut dark orange real chrome. Tonight I call on the Trinity and I'm the nicest fish. I've caught the opportunity in three years. We'll You know the ocean conditions were so good the last couple of years, especially this. Your feed was everywhere. So they're in good shape in the end that river Yeah, that's what I have on. That's what I've been told. Um, so how are you fishing for Matt? Today. We fist exclusively plugs. I used a maglev with a sardine rat. Uh, yeah, I have ro available, but today they were all over the plug. I mean, the first hole we left the plugs out. Engage the rial, and within two seconds we were fish on Well the day so it was just one of those days. You know, it's a plug day when that happens exactly. Ah, because it's not the Well, I think your customers also I think they get a bigger kick out of that, you know, back to Roland and having that fish grab that than they do side drifting, you know? I I agree with you sitting right next to a good day because you happen to pick up any steelhead by incidentally, um, not today. Two weeks ago, we were getting there was a push. A fish that came through some good steel had some pushing double digits. But not today. We didn't touch one. Okay, Well, that's you know, I hear the lower clam of his loaded on a lot of those just moved out in the last week, so that could change. Surely, But let's talk a little bit about fall River. I know you spent quite a bit of time over there this summer. I heard that the For whatever reason. The fish averaged a little bit bigger over there. That's your what was your take on it? Oh, yeah, We had a great average, Probably Realistically, 15 18 inch average this year. There was a phenomenal year over there, and it's still fishing. Great. So, yeah. That's great. That river bounced back quite a bit. It was really low here a few years ago, huh? Itwas And then we have the high water year where there was lots of water for the fish to spawn up in Bear Creek and the springs and they had a great spawn. And so for the last couple years, you know, two years ago, we were catching lots of fish in the 56 inch range. Last year. I mean, you couldn't keep him off your line in the 12 13 inch range, And then this year, of course, they were bigger than 15 18 inch range, And there was lots of, um, we we had some pretty phenomenal days and Like I've got four or five days over there in the next two weeks, and it's still fishing really well, so real quick. What's your technique? Do you do the downstream fall river fly fishing technique or what? Well, I prefer to get him on dry flies if I can. So I try to get up early and hit the spinner fall and then some days, they don't want the swung names. I tied some soft tackles that worked really well on clear intermediate lines. Some days. They just won't eat him. So those days you have to go to the indicator and then feed it indicator down some small nips and, Ah, you know, I've got eight rods rigged up and ready to go in the boat. So any situation office to in whatever way they want to feed that day. That's for certain. Hey, Matt. Thanks for taking. I know you're pulled over on the Trinity River right now taking your guys back to loosed. And so thanks for making that effort. Maybe we'll talk next week or two about fall River when you're over there. Sounds good, Bob. I appreciate the call. That's Matt Mitchell. Um, quite the fishermen over the hill Fish steal the sack. You've been on the Sacramento River Fall River, The Trinity Love's Eternity..

"Way to Lewiston and not seeing any boats is just the twenty three years I've been fishing the server I have never seen that that's about a seventy mile stretch of this famed Idaho trout stream along highway twelve that follows the old Lewis and Clark trail hotel bookings around here have also cratered restaurants emptied out the study by Clearwater county estimated the economic hit of the closure and eight million dollars a month that's huge for this sparsely populated area these struggling river towns that used to depend on timber now lean heavily on fishing hunting and boating dollars but folks also rely on relatively cheap power fueled partly by for hydroelectric dams downstream on the snake in Washington state dams that conservationists have fought for thirty years to get removed the problem is that now we're fighting an issue that we don't have much control over which is a changing climate in nearby Grangeville the Idaho wildlife federation's Lizzy McCaig says one thing we can take action on closer to home is removing the downs she says the science shows they're making things worse slowing down river flows making the water even warmer and the fish more vulnerable to predators the most amazing thing about these fires is how resilient they are and if we just give them half a chance they're going to take advantage of that McCaig sees the recent fishing closure as a possible tipping point that breaks the thirty year legal stalemate it's pitted people against one another in towns like hers that depend on the Salmon cheap power and a water system that allows farmers to easily grow and export wheat I think kind of the beauty and the struggle of the standing still had this year is that all of those economies are inter connected especially in the small towns and for the first time in years people long diametrically opposed to one another or at least getting together and talking about this they're tired of the lawsuits we consider ourselves salmon advocate curing Connelly is a vice president with the Bonneville power administration or BPA the federal agency that sells the high power from the dams he's not committing to removing the four dams on the Snake but that question is at the heart of a court ordered environmental review that's due out next month and everyone agrees there's a sense of urgency predictions and if more is not done the fish could go extinct here in twenty years we're really trying to listen to our critics and try to say how can we get together around the table and incorporate your ideas on how to make things better for fish that's what we're trying to do these thirteen species of salmon and steel head were listed as endangered or threatened on the Endangered Species Act after a lawsuit from native American tribes in the nineteen nineties and since then BPA and other agencies have spent hundreds of millions of dollars on mitigation the money goes to everything from fish ladders to get around the dams to hatcheries and yet the salmon continue to decline for the tribes this represents another broken promise with the US government the quiet man is a tribal councilman for the Nez Perce I am a direct descendant of one of the treaty signers old chief Lookingglass open says the Nez Perce depended on the fish for nutrition and survival before being forced onto a reservation by treaties that today only includes a stretch of the Clearwater river but he sees hope in the fact that some dams are being removed in other parts of the northwest right now you know I'm hoping that you know my daughter's life on and they'll be able to see you free flowing Snake River much like we have on the Salmon River open says a free flowing Snake River would be a step toward restoring some ancestral fishing grounds for the tribe not to mention the local economy that's come to depend heavily on the salmon and steel hat YRC Sigler NPR news Grangeville Idaho.

I love because it's a serious. It is a serious question citizenship is about allegiance, which is why I don't I don't believe in dual citizenship. And indeed almost stole the trouble in the world is caused by people with with multiple passports in the jackets, but I have to you know, I have to count ill at Oba bit a slack of this. Because I would be very surprised if she actually had a Somali passport in her pocket. I mean, I'm not sure she was bordered Somalia, but I'm not actually sure that what this tweet a cold Somali citizenship is actually a thing. I do remember some years ago turning a block somewhere in Washington. I think it was an walking past what purported to be the Somali embassy? But to the best of my knowledge, I didn't think for example, there is a current ambassador from Somalia to the United States. So I don't know way you'd go. I'd set they suddenly isn't a Somali conscientious in in Minneapolis as far as I'm I don't actually no way you'd go to get your Simoni possible renewed the whole and again it gets to by the way why we should be interested in her views of whether or not the Israeli state should exist. Heard homestate belly exists Somalia used to be British Somaliland and Italian Somaliland, and they they came together. To share the burdens of nationhood in the nineteen sixties and have done a comprehensively disastrous jawbone that to the point where all government, basically collapsed entirely, and I'm a believe in small government. But it's Malia it got really small, and they've only had any kind of government. I think for about the last five or six years Ilan Oma. That's not why an Oma is important to the to the democrat party. The Democrats essentially we now have Somali communities in in the United States. We have them in Minneapolis Minnesota. We have them in lewiston Auburn. Maine. They are. How shall I put this? They will. The unusually vibrant, even by the vibrant standards of diversity, for example from last weekend in Minneapolis in the Star Tribune, East African Community reeling from weekend violence demand solutions several Somali gangs locked in a bitter dispute just to be clear on this. When the Star Tribune says East African Community reeling from weekend violence now actually being a bit unfair to Kenyans Ugandans, for example, who find Somalis a bit strong meat even for that tastes. So I think East African Community is a bit of a strong way of putting it I'll tell you the, for example, if you watch the Oscars you'll know that Freddie Mercury. The big, Freddie. Mercury bio-pic by behemoth. Rhapsody won a big bunch of Oscars cleaned up at the office of Freddie mercury's. His dad was the cashier at the CBA high court Santa Barbara is just off the key is part of Tanzania. It's just off the coast of Africa that's east Africa, East Africa gave us, Freddie. Mercury. What's why blame all of east Africa, Minneapolis Star Tribune? I e problem anyway, it says th th-the after the latest spasm of governor of gang violence. Minneapolis is Somali residents and business owners stepped up their calls for help from city hall to help the senseless shootings that they say too often, go overlooked on Friday alone five men of Somali descent was shot in separate attacks one fatally. So we're not saying these guys were born in Somalia, but they of Somali descent, and they have a bought the fry brought the fractious tribal politics of Somalia to then abode police. Community. Members pinned the blame for the bloodshed own an ongoing feud between cedar riverside neighborhood gangs, like sixteen twenty seven and Monte Bon with attitude and their rivals. The Somali outlaws whose territory includes the area around Kamo. This is Minnesota in the twenty nine do you? Remember having it with garrison Keillor before he got me too. And he was on National Public Radio for fifty years. It's been another slow week in Lakewood begun, do you? Remember, all the decades that garrison Keeler was telling us about life in Minnesota that he mentioned the Somali outlaws whose territory includes the Cobb elbow. We get to shoot about with mighty bond with attitude who's tough includes the cedar riverside neighborhood. So so. Somali somalis. Generally, speaking have made a contribution to the vibrancy of diversity in Minneapolis, which may be a wee bit too, vibrant for some people's taste and for that. And for example, they they've had various affirmative action programs. There is there was this policeman. Who shot in an Australian lady in Minneapolis. This is a tragic story and virtually on reported here virtually unreported because we have rotten press here. But it was big news in Australia. She called nine one one, and they send a police car around a Minneapolis police officer with his partner sitting in the passenger seat a Somali officer. The the the lady heard the police car arriving. She went downstairs in her dressing gown knocked on the window the car. The guy the Somali culture in the passenger seat short across his partner fired at the woman and killed her. And that case is still ongoing. I was basically, let's let's I can't stand will the u. Uh-huh. We talk about these things in. But that was basically an affirmative action appointment to the Minneapolis police department that didn't get enough coverage here so Minnesota Somali communities need a hero and Ilan Oma this plucky woman in her head jab. The first hit jabbed MS Lima elected to the US house of representatives is designated hero. And then not gonna permit her to be tainted. They're not going to let her ghetto. They're not gonna let. This Somali gang violence and all these other bad news stories attach itself to Elena, the Democrats have invested in. I know as the new frontier of identity politics, and they are not gonna let go Mark sign from Russia. We'll take your calls straight ahead. You're listening to the IB network..

"Past two days have been about. But one they eat all your snack. Both have won. I'm out of the house. Right. So don't have to hear them yell about the beanbag chair. Airs talk about missing the point try dinner with a nineteen year old who's been smoking weed the life is gone, passive flat trapped in their own heads. Do you want that for your kids? Of course, not then why are leaders pushing it on us. You know, the reason because they don't care about us when you care about people do your best. Okay. That's a little almost like white, Malcolm X C. So this year. Phoned. Right. It's it is our it is a that was a bizarre turn everybody's getting high and their flaccid at Zetter for the non sequitur. He's a real good pivotal. All right. And then and then he says loans, which is why I want to talk about eight and he finishes with a direct attack on the market. I mean, I'm back on board. Yeah. Let's watching nothing divides us like the perception that some people are getting special treatment in our country. So people definitely are getting special treatment Republicans should oppose that with everything they have. So the question is what kind of country. 'cause I should say that just before this. He said that elites does everything very quickly. And so it's vague enough that it can mean a couple of different things to different people. But one point right before they says elites are just letting people into colleges based upon what they look like and Bubba, wait. What are leads just letting people into college? It's based on what they look like, and he sort of he he pitted here to talking about the this notion of special treatment, and, you know, a big part of the problem special treatment is the complete lack of accountability for his folks. I mean. The people used to work with at FOX for for one the president United States. There's a lot of different special treatment comes a lot of different forms when he says special treatment, we may hear that one. But I think his audience here's another one, but continue questions what kind of country. Do. You wanna live a fair country, a decent country, a cohesive country, a country whose leaders don't accelerate the forces of change purely for their own profit and amusement a country might recognize when you're old a country that listens to young people who don't live in a country where you can make a solid living outside of the big cities a country where lewiston Maine seems almost as important as the Westside of Los Angeles a country environmental. I should remind you that exactly. This whole formulation of normal people. I want to college in lewiston, Maine this very lacking in normal people. I love the place also like to remind Tucker that per capita lewiston. Maine gets a lot more representation in the Senate. Let's say then folks that at California. I was gonna say no one in a city has ever struggled to make a living. Tucker doesn't happen. She'll back just fascinated by this use of normal people. Like I've used that. As a joke to say like we need a normal president, not a black guy and woman normal president. Right. And this guy's using it. And I'm not sure exactly what he meant. Well, I do right using really similar way unsure where you can make a solid living outside of the big cities a country where lewiston Maine seems almost as important as the Westside of Los Angeles country environmentalism means getting outside and picking up the trash of clean orderly. Stable country that respects itself and a country are normal people with an average education who grew up no place, special can get married and have happy kids and repeat unto the generations a country that actually cares about families to lock. Of everything what would take to get a country like that leaders who want it for now. Those leaders will have to be Republican option at this point. But first Republican leaders have to acknowledge that market capitalism is not a religion market capitalism. Is a tool like a staple gun or a toaster? You'd have to be a fool to worship it. Our system was created by human beings for the benefit of human beings..

The rest is classified information. That's right. The reason I'm here is because I don't want people to find me by. Golly, exactly. Actually on the trail. That's highway twelve. Oh, cool. Okay. So what's up? I was telling the shell correct? Yes. Michelle. The call taker I thought up a new acronym for a r k. Okay. Anarchist retailer. Wherever work. I always I always liked America's rifle. That's good. I called a couple of my shirt and buddies up they chocolate pretty good. And so did Mitchell. Yup. I think that's a good one. I understand. You also have range report for us. Yes. I do kinda related one. But I bought one of those Smith and Wesson SD nine vs. That was early summer of seventeen shot. It really liked it. I bought another one. Two weeks later that's kind of their that's their price point pistol. And people look at it and go. Yeah. You know, it's a lot less expensive. And I look at it and go. Yeah. But have you shot it because I will tell you there. I don't know what they did. But there's something about that. Pistol. When you pick it up at feels good, even before, you shoot, it don't you think not only that? But that's the first striker fired. I ever bought in centers fire. I put him on the block at twenty one feet. Yeah. It just works. It's inexpensive. It just works. It feels good in your hands. Why not? So cool. I appreciate that. Thanks for your call. I have actually our own the LA range report friend of ours here because they listen to the radio show. They kept hearing me talking about the Smith and Wesson shield easy. The three eighty they went out and bought one shot at yesterday. I said, well, what did you think? Said you're right. It's just there's no recourse, it just works, of course, slides easy to work now to be fair. They also have a nine millimeter Shiels and looking at getting forty five and something else. But they were intrigued by the three eighty and he shot and said, yeah, it's like a no recoil self-defense got. And I would think it'd be absolutely fine for two legged predators with the right ammo good that we have today in three eighty s just something. You can't believe how good it is. I know you hear me say that let me put it in real numbers when you shoot modern three eighty MO into ballistic gelatin, you will get penetration. That is within an inch is deep generally speaking as nine millimeter. Well, what else do you want? It's good enough. Sometimes good enough is just fine. If you want something that's lighter weight that has less recoil that you could shoot a bunch. Now, the flip side of that. And I would make your argument that. We have small nines now. Louis. Oh inexpensive. Practice animal that is that you can go out and practice a whole bunch. So as much as I like three eighty s and they have certain applications, especially when you get down small like Elsie P. In most other sizes. I'm kinda favoring the nine just because you can buy so much ammo for so expensively. Let's see Herman's with us out of Mansfield Louisiana to Hello. Herman welcome to Gun Talk. Don, how're you doing? I'm trying to get somebody to talk me out of trading. My nine thirty eight. Boy, three sixty five or at least trying to talk me out of been an extra money. Well, nine thirty eight is you already have nine thirty eight right. Yes. Right. And I love I love the moon festival. Yeah. Sweet sweetheart little pistol. And what it is is a miniature nine hundred eleven I mean, fair enough. Yes, sir. Okay. The P three sixty five is kind of the same size fish. What are going to get his ten plus one carrying capacity with twelve Brown magazine. Also, you can get that. You're to get night that come with it. It's a very suitable pistol. But the nine thirty eight is such a sweetheart it's kind of hard to make an argument that you should go to the three sixty five over that. Unless you just look at it and go, you know, I really seriously do want more rounds carry gun that would be kind of the overriding concern, it'd be getting more apple. So what's leading you to look at that? Well, they just just been reading up on it about the, you know, the striker fired. Versus safety. Hammerton don't bother me. It really does. I can't get done in seven or eight rounds. It's not going to get done. Well, maybe the problem with that is that what that tells me is that you already have in your mind, how this is going to go, and you don't know how it's gonna go. You may d- twenty rounds to finish the fight. It may be one of those days when nothing you do works or there's more than one of them. It's yeah. I know what you're saying that people say, well, the average gunfight is Xs two shots at three shots at whatever. It is. Except that your fight may not be the average one. I would really seriously hates run out of ammo in the middle of a gunfight. Okay. So, you know, LeBron?.
