She's in a position to where, if he can change something that is as entrenched and as old school as the New York film harmonic and get them to change their mission directed activity toward being meaningful to the surrounding New York community, the greater burrows, creating something like analysis program that the orchestra doesn't just give minimal money and lip service to, but a real multi decade investment that lasts well past when due to Mel will be there. I think people have the perception that environmental issues tend to be very much liberal issues supported mostly by Democrats, but often actually wildlife conservation is a pretty bipartisan issue, and that's because it is important to hunters and fishers who often tilt conservatives so there is that support on that side and also what's important about this bill specifically is that in preventing species from being listed under the endangered species act, it is in theory preventing high regulatory burdens and costs associated with the endangered species act and that is very appealing across the board because it basically means if we put the money in now to restore populations of animals, that means that we might not have to list them as endangered, and that means we can avoid a lot of government regulation that a lot of people don't like, especially on the conservative side. So I think for those reasons this bill is pretty popular across the aisle. "It was a gateway drug and before long i'd be on heroin and have no control over my life. When low talks about the community they serve. They use the phrase people who use drugs. It's also the phrase. I'm using throughout this piece because it doesn't judge or assume anything the line between what qualifies addiction and what doesn't can be blurry but the language of the war on drugs racist any nuance instead lewellen. I grew up hearing about drug addicts and abusers and we got the message that these drug addicts were generally disgusting dirty lazy people. Little can't think of anyone from their childhood didn't feel ashamed of the drug users in their community and as they began to understand their family better. The shame started to feel personal. While i think i knew my dad was in the drug trade when i was in high school. They were ashamed of their families connection to drugs. They were ashamed of their poverty when it really came down to was. I'm so worried about what people think of me. And and if they'll think i'm poor and unworthy had a lot of coal miners and their family like their grandfather. Their papa pappa had a a stub for the on one side and he was really like. I'm gonna tickle you with this or whatever. And i was like you know when i was a little kid but It was because he fucking cut his thumb off while working in the coal mines he just typed it back on and work there today. Fill the fuck off and did not. There was no saving you know that. It's kind of like the expectation of the legacy of the coal monir. You know you. Produce produce produce in you work really hard and your whole life. the community little serves. They are poor but little doesn't see them as unworthy. They spend a lot of time thinking about the various types of pain in their community. Like a lot of people around here have decaying teeth. It reminds me of the stereotype of an appalachian person. He uses drugs. A toothless hillbilly. That person is usually a punchline but not to lil make herbal medicine for people's teeth. What is that this yellow. They can just like slow down and stuff like there. There's a room in little small house that's devoted just two people who use drugs and to the philosophy of harm reduction. It's called the harm reduction. room harm. Reduction is the practice of doing what you need to do to get by and feel good while doing little harm as you can to yourself or to others harm. Reduction doesn't require people to abstain completely from risky activities just to take steps to minimize the risk if during the pandemic you wore a mask so that you could see your friend but lower the chances of giving them cova. You were harm reduction if you've ever had sex with a condom. You were practising harm reduction. And if you're in this community using heroin in southern west virginia making sure your syringes are clean is harm reduction food. I sit on an exercise ball in the harm. Reduction room in little shows me their supplies. There's clean syringes and other tools to make drugs. Safer pipes for drugs like math that minimize exposure to the talks. You might inhale smoking off of tinfoil tools. To test for fenton. All extremely potent synthetic opioid that will increase your risk of overdose. Especially if you don't know it's there more and more drugs label those heroin or meth contain fenton. All the supply. I hear about the most often. Besides syringes is narconon narcan the overdose reversal drug. They use. to save. Bruce's life is generic name the laaksonen you administer it when someone has overdosed and passed out and he's not breathing. There's two versions one. That goes up your nose like a congestion spray nasal narcan and one that you inject and you pop this off. Stick the needle in there and They want to inject someone in the muscle so preferably lack the thigh. Something funny about me. That people might not realize because i have a bunch of tattoos and the work harm reduction. I used to be scared of needles. So even even coming out even in the last year when i started injecting testosterone. It was weird to get used to indicating maceo so the first few times i did it. I like didn't do it hard enough in it like hurt more than it needed to. you know. Little has administered naloxone many times but still. They're scared when they do it scared. They've arrived too late and all people that have been administered. Naloxone forty or fifty times this year. You know it's not it's just part of being a person who uses drugs with the drug supply. They have. They don't have the safe supplies so they have an insect supply. So that's the option you know and when someone comes back what's that like They have no idea what happened. You know they definitely don't know that they overdosed until you tell them. People that are really struggling. You'll hear them say like oh. We should've just let me die. You know people have said that to me And i'm always like. How could you say that you know like your life is so precious. You know you're left with just my hands it so precious little most of the time if people who use drugs who administer can be what their friends are getting high when something goes wrong but in west virginia. This is a legal. There's a long list of rules in the state code about who can legally administered narcan and it's mostly limited to healthcare workers and law enforcement with a few exceptions if people actually followed those laws. What would happen. It's hard for me to even think about that because like personally at my community. Almost every what i know. It'd.

I mean you can fly to the north of madagascar to a place called nasi bay who translates as big island directly from paris and we go to the beach there and You know it's a wonderful french. Haute cuisine it's astonishingly low prices and you've never even have lost her madagascar's between guadeloupe and martinique alphabetically. In the french tourist brochures.
