"They talked about how boys would walk into walls while looking through their kaleidoscopes or running into cyclists on the street. So this was a huge deal people were super into these. So by the middle of the twentieth century though kind of around the time all these other board games are coming out they were pretty not super exciting anymore because he had things like Bosch and spirograph and other things to keep you busy. But then there is a woman named cozy Baker and I love that name. She sounds like she'd be friends with Blossom dearie faith, and she really revived the interest in kaleidoscopes. She was independently wealthy and between 1985 and 2002 Sion. Seven books about kaleidoscopes know yeah and there are like society's for people who love kaleidoscopes now there she's been following month. Yes. She's been called the first lady of kaleidoscopes the Kaleidoscope Queen the patron saint of kaleidoscopes all these things, but you just see life. Yes. She's been compared to a seventeenth or eighteenth-century Patron of the Arts. She spent her life putting Kaleidoscope artists in galleries together, so they would know each other and encouraging each other and when she died in 2010, she had over a thousand kaleidoscopes including one made from shark skin in Alabaster another made from an elephant's task a $12,000 electric Kaleidoscope one in the shape of a Chrysler building and she said that kaleidoscopes were nourishment for the job. Yes. Now I feel like I want to own a kaleidoscope. Well, they're pretty inexpensive go get one and there's places like a business call kaleidoscopes to you. They sell many kaleidoscopes and some of their greatest hits in their businesses history include giving party favors for Yoko Ono 79th birthday and they gave scopes for a gift basket that George W bush gave to White House staffers. So would what do you think Jess would say holding up his comb nice spin spin that Kaleidoscope. You should bush. Here's the last one. Yeah, see I'm winning. Everybody knows Yahtzee Yahtzee has it's become though a word that we say, you know, like for like a kind of like a wait like Bingo or Bullseye, you know, yeah see like it's we use it and it's just because it's a beloved and people get very excited if they get a yahtzee, which I know I have before I think like one time I remember playing with my family and I got a job see which is when you get all dice of the same number. Thank you for reminding me because it's been so long since I played that I forgot what a yahtzee actually was. Yeah. So you're rolling die you're you get to roll three times five died and you can't keep some as they are and just re-roll some of them or you can re-roll all of them and at the end you get points for what you have. It was made by Milton Bradley no job. Room and you know, it's still a big part of people's lives. In fact in 2011 a three sons killed them brother over Yahtzee or one killed her the other to help cover it up, you know all involved. They said that she wanted to play Yahtzee and the boys didn't and she got mad and grab a few things and stormed out of the house and they killed her unclear but Spooky sorry, I'm just like processing that story. You're telling me what a horrible thing. Yeah, it is a terrible thing..

"Awesome movie based off of this game was just about to tell you that you got all movie games. Yes. There is a very fun 1980s movie called clue. Have you seen this movie? No, but I actually was supposed to watch it last weekend and then didn't and so I'm going to probably try to watch it this weekend and don't tell me what happened. Oh, I won't I couldn't if I tried it is a very fun movie. I highly recommend it. It's a little bit like knives out if you guys are winning a more modern comparison. It's a little zanier than Knives Out much sillier. And if you are a British listener, you might know this game under a different name the British name of the game and original name was Pluto because it was a pun on the idea of clue and the Ludo which is a late 19th century English board game. That in Latin means I play. However, American audiences are not familiar with that game. So they dropped the dough to come to United States. Nice, I like glue same next up man. This guy could fit a lot of games in one song mousetrap. I don't think I've ever played this it was published by ideal different game company 1963. Yeah. It was one of the first mass-produced three-dimensional board games. And this is where over the course of the game you create kind of a Rube Goldberg like mousetrap and they try to trap each other. And in nineteen the 1990s mousetrap was adapted to a game show with in the UK speaking of our British friends called motor mouth and child's intestines take place of a mice of the mice and the life-size that in a life size board game. There was also a clue toe game show in Britain. I didn't mention that but look at that. Look at the yeah, it's turned board games and the TV shows. Yeah mousetrap. Not one that I don't think I've played it. I've seen it. Like I said, I've been in its presence but I don't think that's it. I don't think I've ever played it either another game. I have not played off you ever played bash. Yeah, but it sounds fun. I had a lot of trouble finding much information on this game is not in production anymore. If you want to buy it, you can like buy a 1965 edition of it for $50 plus $7 shipping on Amazon like that kind of situation in Iraq electors item So you can find versions to buy but this is not in production anymore. It is a little bit younger than some of the like board games we've talked about is meant for ages 5 and Up and basically it's a you're stacking these little disks on top of each other. They're yellow and red discs you stack them on top of each other and they seem like they're sandwiched between a man. So there's like feet on the bottom and head on the top and you have to hit it with this Hammer which is a plastic hammer and Tong in like knockout pieces without knocking over the whole thing. So it's like basically Jenga, huh? Okay. It's not a very sturdy looking game and I can..

"There's one book called The Body in the library by Agatha Christie that came out in 1942 that actually has a lot of similarities with the story frame in the game. So they think that wage probably one of The Inspirations and some fun facts about clue when he first filed for a patent Pratt had different weapons that were involved. So that's the original weapons included in Acts a cudgel around fizzing bomb a piece of rope a dagger a revolver a hypodermic syringe bottle of poison in a poker and then vote. No, Anvil, where did open anvils go? Wow, so brutal weapons. Now, we've got a Candlestick took us. So as you know, now all of those made it through we have a Candlestick now and some others and there were more characters originally. There was also a mr. Brown Mister gold now, there's really only six characters and mrs. White was nurse white. Actually, the original murder victim was going to be doctor black and now it's mr. Body which in a way better pun for a murder victim and originally it was going to be Colonel yellow, but people at War time did not like the association that yellow had for a colonel being a coward so he became Colonel Mustard nice and another fun fact about this board game distributor. You're going. Oh, no doubt. Could this possibly be I think this is actually really cool. So this group called waddington's that desire or distributed the board games for them. They actually have been doing some covert operations for mi9. He had been slipping tools or this company had been slipping actual escape tools into board games Justin's for British prisoner of war camps and they made them look like a board games so they could get through the like poww restrictions and they would let them through and may actually like send out real weapons and real war information through these board games. And then he actually went out to make real board games that were just for fun. That's really cool. And also.

See I'm winning think of how we loved but today we share a lot of walking around Taylor. Did you just relate so much to this just bought a d tear up a little. Well, you know, I love all things that make love a game because love is should be gamified and made a competition which is why I think the bachelor is a game. Really important and positive force on our culture and Society. I miss it in the store now for you by the way. You're welcome. I'm improving life. Well, we gotta talk about these games though because if you have to gamify my love, I would rather it be any of these games than the Bachelor and And some of these are well-known but some of these are not so Taylor what you're saying is that you would like your love life to be like barrel of monkeys. Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying. I want if you ask me how my relationship is going. I want to be like, you know what it's a barrel a month barrel of monkeys that was released in nineteen sixty five life. It was created 1961 and 1964. It was sold came out 965 by Lakeside toys. I've never heard of but now it's produced by the Milton Bradley company within Hasbro, which I'm sure we all if we didn't know that we know about Hasbro. You've got it in your house somewhere else. Yes two games. So yeah, it's a barrel of monkeys sure. We will see that but you know, I've never really played I've just always liked seen kids with the barrel monkey and they just make a line but you actually are supposed to like make a chain and keep scooping up more and then you lose you stop your account. Once the monkey is dropped and then the next person can see how long they get it off. But but like You pick it up with the chain you already have I'm pretty sure. I don't know. It was ranked number 53 by Time Magazine on their 2011 all-time 100 greatest toys list. I'm not really sure why because it's barrel of monkeys. I mean, I like monkeys but hey, it appears another pop culture. It's in the Toy Story series. I was thinking of that in 2012 Dartmouth College student Parker feeling a little fundraising group that built a chain and 5909 monkeys longest ever. In the game show Family Game Night which featured a lot of Hasbro games families played barrel of monkeys for prize by raising.

"She's she renounced him soon after she was arrested but Yeah, that's Leslie Van Houten. So here's here's what I want to know with this. So Amy sherman-palladino. It's like hey got this wedding scene Louis. Laura. Ligon was sitting together cracking a few jokes. We need some people for this wedding. So have a bunch of extras come audition. Okay, you you great and then same thing out in the room when she looks over and she says, hey that one extra over there. So just look like that murderer Leslie van out. Hey extra come over here. Oh great. Wow a machine. Hey, so you you know, you look a lot like that convicted murder. We want to call that out in the show. So could you make kind of a creepy face? Like what was that conversation like with this poor extra what she brought on to look like Leslie Van Houten or did they come up with that after the fact? Well looking at pictures of Leslie Van Houten. Side by side with this girl. They don't look that much alike. Right? It's more that scary look and I took us I have a screenshot. We'll put on Her Tumblr and it's in our folder. If you want to look off of the trick of the wedding like she makes a scary face, but they say that she looks familiar as she's skipping down the aisle. But maybe they're trying to like go into the idea that she looks like she's part of a cult or she's kind of doing the flower child thing because yeah, Leslie Van Houten. She was very much looked, you know, like a hippie. I don't know. That is a great question. Cuz I really don't think they look super alike. I mean, they're both white women with Not even the same color hair. Hey guys, though true. Definitely not dressed alike. Cuz this woman is dressed like for a Renaissance here. Yeah. But I think it's more about the intensity. I think you're right. I hope I just hope she hasn't carried that with her that she looks like a member of the Manson family. Yes young actors. If you were listening to this. We don't think you really look like Les leaving you look up your own person. Well, should we talk about what happens right after this little dance dancecapade? Oh, yes this spooky moment with Leslie Van Houten not look alike wage. Here Comes one of my all-time favorite musical moments in Gilmore Girls you like more than just Musical and the Revival a hundred percent better off here comes the song our favorite song About love as kids we.

"Name. All right parents it worked out for her. Taylor are you okay with getting a little spooky now who you know me. I love to say spooky. So let's get spooky his wedding lots of hilarious moments and so good. Here's one of them Luke and Lorelai are just trying to keep it together and they're not succeeded would be starting then Tony's Upland roses. Nice. She remind you of someone. And you say Leslie Van Houten? So it did you know who Leslie Van Houten Putin Scootin was Putin Scootin Boogie Woogie Woogie boy. No, I sure did not know who Leslie been out was I didn't either and it was even more confusing because Luke asked Lorelai if she reminded him someone like they looked familiar with like she looked familiar to them. So I was like she from the town like what are they? What does this mean? And the Lorelei says right away Leslie Van Houten this woman and home town was Leslie Van Houten a convicted murderer and former member of the Manson family. Oh my so, you know, she moved to Stars Hollow apparently, except that's impossible because she's in prison. She helped during the Manson murder spree that night. So their plan was to murder all these wealthy people and frame members of the Black Panther and ignite a race warm and then Mister Manson's Grand planned in the end what he dead, Just knew was going to happen was that the black people in America would win the white people would be dead and then they would need a leader. So, who are they going to turn to them? But this white man? And he was this is a well thought-through plan. Yeah, he was going to Rule, oh my gosh. Does that not say how much a part of the problem he was if he thought that after all the other white people were dead or in hiding or whatever that he was going to lead. I like don't even have any intelligent comment on that because I've heard of the Manson Murders, but I actually don't know that much about them. And when I watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood last year, which is set around the Manson Murders, shout out to Quentin Tarantino whom we've talked about before I the whole movie just along the way I thought I just realized like with everything. I was like, oh, I actually know nothing about the Manson Murders like this is what I thought it was and this movie is doing something completely different. I literally know nothing about this. Yeah. I knew nothing either. I knew that they killed people but I didn't know over how like what the period of time was off or anything. But yeah, there was a they I'm sure they did other stuff before this but when they were arrested was when they went on this killing spree and killed Sharon Tate right page her name. Yes. Shout out to Valley of the Dolls. Yeah, so she was convicted and she has been up for parole more than twenty times each time denied the sister of Sharon Tate. She she's testified at the different parole hearings and you know in in prison Leslie Van Houten has apparently been a good prisoner, but The sister says that because Leslie hasn't really given a to her. You know, this is her thoughts on it hasn't given a good enough reason. She hasn't helped them understand why she helped in this Killing Spree. So it just doesn't seem like she's saved to have out in the world. I I don't really have an opinion on this because some respects, you know, it's been How many years you know, five six decades she was in a cult really that truly was a cult. It kind of brainwashed thinking that this Manson guy was our savior..

"Were like, I don't I don't they're yeah so good Mysteries but easy to saw or quick to solve song Taylor you want to solve our first mystery sure. We'll all right. Well, we are going to kick it off with one of the all-time great ideas for a podcast off a visual reference. We will have a picture in our Tumblr and of course I suspect you are the kind of person if you are listening to this should be open to watching Gilmore Girls wage, but in the cold open we get to see Jess Mariano back in Stars Hollow and he is sitting on a bench making awkward off. Contact with Lorelai Gilmore. Is that the bench that we sat on when? I don't actually know I'm sure they might the ventures all over the place. It's just in the right spot. It's true. So we're going to say this is the bench you and I sat on for sure. It's Cannon. And on this nice little park bench right next to the Gazebo. He is reading what looks to be an issue of punk Planet magazine off and inside as the camera pans are NBC. He's really reading the book that Luke gave him the self-help book called You are not alone. And as far as I can tell you are not alone is not a real book. There are probably books called that but the one shown in the show, so there there's no friend named Philip. I have this friend. Let's call him Philip and he reads Punk Planet. Just kidding. As far as I can tell the book that Luke gives to Jess is a figment of the Paladino's and they're writing staffs imagination. However, Punk planet is indeed a very real magazine. And if you want food for proof of this I do well glad you asked I also in my research was just looking up punk playing it and I found a very nifty 50 Twitter account that is pretending to be just Mariano's group of small town Publishers or garlic small press publishers. And we will share their Twitter in our Tumblr because they really get snapped for helping me with this research because as I'm doing this they happen to tweet like a few hours before birth a picture of Jess Mariano wearing a punk Planet t-shirt in season two is nice. Yeah. So in the episode 215 lost and found while he's cleaning Lorelai and Rory Cutters, he's wearing a punk Planet t-shirt. Okay. So this is look at that like we have more t-shirt two seasons later reading the magazine. That's that's impressive home. So a little bit about this Punk Planet magazine, if you're not familiar with it, there's probably a good reason for it. It was never a huge publication and it is no longer going off. This was I thought a nice little description of it from the AV club. They wrote a tribute to it upon its demise..

"And your young until if you're a teenager. Still Live with your parents. Let's either apparent or an ex-boyfriend. With you being young enough. You were probably thrown out by your parents yet so. Yes she. I guess it's safe to say that. She was enamored from the start. And from video interviews I've seen cheese most certainly still enamored with the man like she gets a little sparkle in her eye and smiles at the mention of him. Yeah, it's scary and she's like what in her sixties now yeah! I think so for her. Though life improved dramatically once she became a part of the Manson family because he was able to escape from the frightening household where she was treated like A. A wrongdoer by her father, so Manson very quickly became like father figure for her like I think he did for a lot of other girls. Yeah, a lot of the girls were really young like you said yeah, so the core members of his group included his right hand Lynette squeaky from Charles Tex Watson Robert Beausoleil. Mary Burner, who I believe was actually the first person he took it and she was a librarian. Inch Susan Atkins Linda Abyan Patricia Krenwinkel and Leslie Van Houten. So the Group of about twenty five young people settled on abandoned movie set called spawns movie ranch, nineteen, sixty eight. Every member had their role to play. The more attractive women were kind of sent out to take advantage of men surprise surprise considering he used to prostitute other girls yeah, squeaky was the group's den mother, so she was sort of like the motherly figure. She was always kind of like there to take care of people and stuff like that. And Pat was sort of enforcer she if anybody was questioning whether they should be there or if they wanted to stay or if they were trying to get out, there would be sent to her, and she would somehow kind of convince them that it. You know it was okay to stay made them. So former members also state that Manson would offer them LSD, so they were constantly tripping. And tell them to take it, but would either never partake of it himself, or he would take much smaller doses to kind of maintain his own lucidity interesting, but is it really that surprising because he could make them more successful? Yeah, say that kind of plays into the control aspect where. Like all you as tripping, I'm not so I, can make you do nervous i. want you to yeah, so he was always kind of preaching to them in his own way of just like you know his bizarre I say thoughts, but like he would say things that to them because they were under the influence, just like prophetic like you know, time didn't exist. Before man came around man invented time. Mind like go shit. I can't believe I never thought of that before. So yeah, that makes a lot of sense for how he was able to like manipulate an influence them that they were just constantly in a state of high. And such a large group and it was so you know it was so rampant at the time..

No. But, you know, it's funny, I did a post this morning at chicks on the right dot com, which you should be visiting every single day, multiple times a day about the dress that avant, Trump war, and that also the dress that Lara Trump war when they were at Buckingham Palace yesterday. They both just looked absolutely stunning. And a bunch of the Trump kids and family. They were posting pictures on their Instagram and on Twitter of all the siblings together with their respective spouses. And Tiffany was in that photo. And I. Just didn't mention her in the post. He didn't say anything because my mom always told me if you don't have something nice to say, just don't say anything. Yes, she's a. I do use the term rapid decline. Terrible. Feely mean I just I, I mean, she's banging that billionaire, right? And possibly she's impregnated by him, which, I mean, you know, if you're going to line up, you know, be good for her. If she is. I just I. Interesting point that you would think that the roles would be reversed based on how the moms appear right? I feel like she looks more like the daughter of Evonne Trump, then Marla Maples, and the reverse is true for vodka. 'cause Marla Maples is a beautiful woman. I mean still to this day, absolutely gorgeous. She's the one with the pool. Boy. No, that's that's von Ivana reminds me of that taller drunk, chick, on absolute fabulous. You remember that show? She that is her. And she just looks exactly like that an vodka is so flawless, and perfect in every way that she looks like she belongs more to Marla Maples than Ivana, there should be some testing happens. We worked we were in our research before the show came on the air today. We were looking back at the history of Ivanka Trump. Yeah. And she was a little rough around the edges at she was just less sophisticated than she is. Now. You know what she's grown into her adulthood fairytale Princess now? Yeah. But I mean we've found some pictures from like a decade ago when she was banging that, that maroon five guitar you this was news to me. You're like she used to bang. The drummer, not the drummer, but that one of the tar. Of maroon five I had no idea and that guy is nothing to look at. I mean think about so you're Trump's daughter. Yeah. And you appear the way that she does. Yeah. And all you have to account for your time in the dating industry is this guy for maroon pie? And Jared Kushner Donald Trump walk around every day. I'm so disappointed. It is. It's very yeah. It's. You know who wasn't in the picture though, Kimberly Guilfoil? She didn't go. That's right. The photo. Yes, she didn't go. I wonder what that's all about trouble in paradise. Do we know what she was doing? I've no idea perhaps she had other engagements. I only mention this because Gavin Newsom never have Mr. formerly Mr. Kimberly. Yeah. Now, the governor of California poor decisions, like Kimberly look at who she dated. He's in the news because he has denied parole for Charles Manson follower, Leslie Van Houten, really. Because the pro-aborts had five go, go. Haven't they done that before? Well, yeah. And he stepped in and said, Nope, he's out. This third time a governor, stop the release of Leslie Van Houten, holy cow. I'm actually really surprised by that because I figured if any governor was going to let her out, it would be some, some softy like that. He because he's a super live. Yeah. But I guess I guess even in California. There are people that they will not let out on this. Wow. That I have to say I mean, kudos to him for doing the right thing. I don't think that women should be released. Here's the question, though. The governor of points, the parole board. So what is because we've got multiple governors now of over ridden. I don't know if that's a word or not. But overridden the parole board. So what is the lack of communication between these two entities? You'd think when you point someone you'd be like hey Van Houten you're not letting her out. Well, I mean it's possible I suppose that she's been such a delight in prison, and she has completely, you know, ingratiated herself to the parole board. And so they just feel very strongly that she should be released and the governor, here's all the resistance of the general public and decides to side with them. Quote, while I commend MS Van Houten for her efforts at rehabilitation and acknowledged her youth at the time of the crimes, I am concerned about her role in these killings, and her potential for future violence, and I don't. I mean that's the thing I don't agree with him that she is going to be violent again. But I also believe that the punishment was suitable life in prison for her was was the right punishment. And so just stop leave her there. Can I ask you a really weird? Morbid question. Okay. Daisy really embrace the weird. Because like, the, the wife of deputy picket, who was murdered here in, in from Boone county. They just did the plea deal with the guy who who was his murder, and they took life in prison versus the death penalty. And you hear well, we do most to do what the family wants to the family wants to plea bargain and be done with it. We do it if they wanna see it through. We'll see it through what would you be willing to see through? Would you just wanna plea bargain and get it done? Gosh, that's really hard because I would want to see it through all the way. Let's go. Let's roll. Yeah. I mean, I because you would just have that ache for, for Justice and plea is that doesn't feel like Justice to me. Yeah, I would want to I would probably wanna go all the way. So someone kills me, make sure you see it through all the way. Uh-huh. Play. Society needs to. News. Hey. I love how you love the hate mail. Thrill. About to read to this comes from Chuck the Email, I used to be here. I think maybe employed here. Okay. Ladies are very talented and my wife and I enjoy your show on a daily basis. Doesn't sound like hate mail at all. However, can you get robbed a stop? Every time he opens his mouth, seriously. It ruins are listening team. Ladies. Why does he yell? Is he afraid he won't be heard? Does he feel intimidated by your show? Any help with this distraction. Would be appreciated. There's.

"Phone. Number miguel. Are leeann tweeden duck? Do speaking to Debra Tate victims advocate than you were just about to say something about the Manson family being different than this other case you heard recently. Family. Let's take a the most recent hearing I attended on the thirtieth of January Leslie Van Houten has gotten numerous parole dates who has led in in prison of pretty much a infraction free history. Well, that's I what else would I spent there are people with guns. I'm so proud and happy that she managed to do something with their life. But this is a woman that is still attracted had a sixteen year relationship with another man in another state who was incarcerated and found guilty in two states of multiple women with knives. Does this story sound to molar right in two thousand sixteen parole hearings that it was a romantic relationship, however, inches in eighteen she said. Because they were both at is on the table. In other words, what I'm saying is in the home to look at the big picture and also society as to the big picture and our politicians need to look at the big picture. Are there people who could be trusted in a free society? Never to cheat their cool again because they're not cold blooded killers. Or public toy killer net. And those people usually, well, it's loaded out serial killers. Of course, those Jones to get out. The fact of the matter is is that most individuals in the entire United States. Who are condemned to die actually die of old age prior to a death sentence? Ho. Appeal system is ridiculously long. I mean, they get transacted up the town. What's the average? How long does it take for somebody to be put the death? Like, we're going to have to leave it up to that real quick, Deborah how long. Actually, I believe it's in excess of forty seven on March. "Flipped over in Beckley West Virginia several players. Business partners. Independent in thoughts and punk rock in life. It's the Chad Benson show. Leslie Van Houten was convicted in the one thousand nine hundred sixty nine killing of a couple here in LA attorneys have long argued she was only nineteen when those killings happened. She was a youngest of Charles Manson's followers twice before the California board of parole hearings is recommended parole for Van Houten and each time. It was denied by then governor Jerry Brown. Now, governor Gavin Newsom will have to decide we believe that all those years later. Of course, he's dead. I don't even know they were sort that out that they ever figured out who gets his body and who gets his estate, and he gets his name likeness. I know that sounds weird but somebody probably would want. It's probably worth something. Sounds weird. But it's true. But all those years later, we're still talking about Manson and his followers. Still talking about it. And by the way, not everybody's happy about this. Because they always come up usually one or two year that come up the ones that are still alive. Right. They come up to parole, and sometimes they get it. And they're like, yeah. Now, we don't think so you you you you you still what you did was awful. And they're still family members. That are like now her release is strongly opposed by families of the victims, Leslie Van Houten waste nineteen years old when she took part in the nineteen sixty nine killing of a couple here in LA, those voters came a day after other Manson followers, killed actress, Sharon Tate, who is pregnant and for others. Tate's sister, attended this latest hearing and is strongly against van Houten's release. Yeah. Good god. And it shows you the cults of personality and what somebody with charisma and whatnot can do. Because. These weren't you look at some of these kids, right? They were smart college educated. Couple of went to Stanford. If I'm correct, I mean, these were some. And he was able to get them to do in American. History, some of the most heinous crimes. Three two three five three eight twenty four twenty three at Chadbensonshow is your Twitter. You can tweet at me we live in a world of it's not what you do. It's not what you say. It's not how was meant. But how it's taken right last week. There's a kerfuffle about a restaurant in downtown Phoenix. Because all the wall picture a bunch of men. Drinking a beer it's in black and white. It's been there for a while. Somebody complains take it down. That's that is offensive. They're like that picture like that's offensive to me that picture this offensive you. Yeah. Well, it's minstrel. No, it's not it's a picture of a bunch of men from the northern part of England who were coal miners who went straight to the pob, and there's a picture. Well, I think it's that. And this goes back to well. I think and because I think. People don't like jokes people can't have fun anymore and sometimes the jokes. Look they fall on deaf ears. Right. But we're at this point where everybody is offended by everything including cookies..

"Was the day that Manson family member Leslie Van Houten went before the state parole board again a third time. And for a third time. She was recommended found suitable for release again by the California board a parole hearings. The previous two times that he was found suitable for release. It was blocked by then governor Jerry Brown. Who determined that? She was laying too much of the blame on Manson as you'll remember Van Houten took full responsibility for the crime this go round, which according to her lawyer might help her achieve parole. She was not part of the killings that took the life of Sharon Tate and four others. She was responsible for the death of gross early. No, lie Bianca and his wife, Rosemary the following evening. So now her fate is and governor Gavin Newsom hands the recommendation or the finding of being suitable for release by the California board of parole hearings has to with stand a one hundred fifty day review process. If at that point. The suggestion is still to release her. It still has to be approved by governor Gavin Newsom now in attendance yesterday was Sharon Tate. Attending the hearing. And she said that she hoped the governor would deny van Houten's freedom. Just thinking outside the box here. And I'm not saying that this is what I believe. I'm just asking the question should someone who wasn't a part of that incident be allowed to wait in. On her future. In other words. She didn't have anything to do with the tape murder. So why was Sharon Tate there to recommend one way or the other? That would be like if Kerry was charged with isn't Sharon Tate, dead. But Leslie Van Houten wasn't there. Leslie, Van Houten wasn't on trial accused were sentenced because of the depth of Sharon Tate that was the night before. Right. So why would Sharon Tate? I'm just asking the question. It's like of charity murdered somebody. And then you murdered somebody the next night. And then I'm the brother of the person that you Mr. team murdered. And I go to charities hearing and say charity shouldn't be released charity didn't have anything to do with the murder you committed, but I was a part of the same Colt. She was sentenced for. Yeah. I'm just asking the question just something to think about w o a news time seven fifty six. When I had my brother, take me places. It was always like we have to get there early..

"This Leslie Van Houten. We'll have details on that weather a huge national story. Midwest it is freezing. It is below freezing over there. But there's also a series of storms set to move into. So Cal today. So be intimidating this rain get ready for it. The boots. I wore a parka. But that's not waterproof, you need to get something that's going to deflect the rain. And also we've talked about outbreaks of the flu. There's also been a couple of measles outbreaks in our area at five fifty. We're going to talk to someone. I know Jennifer Jones Lee would love she's an award-winning animal advocate. But most importantly, she's the host of the dog bowl this year. The twenty nineteen dog bull not to be confused with the puppy bowl. We'll have more details on that. And it's six oh five. It's handle on the news. You know, Bill Handel is going to watch the puppy bowl for. Sure. Right. All right. I don't know if I'm gonna regret later and right now, let's just say good morning ABC's news and crime terrorism. Analyst is Brad Garret? Good morning, Brad. Good morning. Okay. Now, we're talking about puppy bowls and stuff like that. But, but what your assignment has been is actually a really really scary for those who really don't know who maybe don't have Twitter or anything like that. Can you just give us a summary of what happened to to Jesse small? Jesse? Apparently, we arrived back in Chicago late late at night. So at two o'clock or so in the morning, he's near his residence. He goes into a fast food restaurant. Picks up some food comes out and stated as he was attacked by two guys report a liquid on him place in new surroundings, his neck made some anti gay much and then made some comment to the effect of make America. Great. Something to that effect, and then left after punching him a number of times. So he calls the police say they arrive apparently he had now walked to his apartment they reported. He still has a noose around his neck. So you know, because I've worked so many cases where you have allegations on the front end. Obviously, you believe people to you can prove it otherwise. And so the police for the last several hours and days have tried to corroborate Jesse story. They've found some video of two guys. I think close but walking down the street, I guess they've not been able to find video of the actual attack. But I heard earlier today a gentleman that claimed he was on the phone with Jesse when this happened, and he heard it. So the police are trying to piece together. But you know, obviously, if the is true, it's it's it's beyond troubling. Right. If. It's true. It's pretty pretty scary. Then he this is this is like out of a movie. This is a really really scary thing. He was doing an average person things something we we all go get a bite to eat walk on the street, would you? So I would consider that like last night was a break in the case. They have these two guys on video. Now, they don't think these two guys are they suspects. I think they don't know. You know, the problem is when you have video is that unless you can like capture the people at the scene, you didn't capture people that are in proximity to the scene. I think that's what they have here. Now one advantage is that because it is to two thirty in the morning. There's not the volume of people that would be at two thirty in the afternoon. So you can eliminate I suppose people as you go through this. So the problem with this video, of course, is it it's dark it's the back of two people and it's a long distance away. So you're not gonna be able to ID people from this video. Maybe you know, if you know them really well based on the coat may still the walk. But you know, clearly, it doesn't put the case together yet for the bullies. Right. And this is something that I mean Twitter just went wild with this celebrities everywhere kind of tweeting their support what? So what is the next move in this case? And what what is you say you cover cases like this. What is your analysis on this? Well, I mean, again, I I have no reason to disbelieve him. I'll tell you it does then become a challenge sometimes to prove these crimes once you a dentist by you. You obviously have a really you have this statement, you have a rope. You have March on his face. You have apparently someone who was on the phone with who heard some of this. But you're going to need. I think more evidence to be successful of prosecuting somebody and that becomes a problem. I mean, I've had cases where you know, completely convinced. Looking at the right person or persons, but all the evidence, this really isn't there the police's fault? It's not just he's fault. It's just sort of is what it is. So I am hoping that, you know, this goes together further I will say this that crimes like this people who could these type of hate crimes are gonna have some sort of track record in that arena. Right. But what belong to white supremacist groups, which you know, tend to be homophobic, etc. So, you know, is there something out there is there something in his social media stream because let's face it people with his profile are going to have, you know, a kazillion hits a day of social media. Is there something in those? That's very labor intensive but that may give them a hint as to a direction to go. So this is this case sort of, you know, really cries out to you. The public issue cargo we need your help. Right. Right. And so normally it used. If you had video evidence that was a rare thing now, that's like the evidence. That's what you need to convict someone. And I just want to make note there is a study. There was a study done. We KFI had covered this before hate crimes. There was a spike in Los Angeles from the years of twenty seventeen to twenty eighteen. So it's scary to think that our society. This could just be getting worse. That's really sad. There's a spike in reported crimes, which I will tell you is a big time under reported crime. And that if you look at the southern poverty Law Center, when they look at hate groups, you know, that number now approaches apparently a thousand which you knows? Obviously has stirred number. Yeah. Very disturbing. This whole thing is and, you know, thank you so much for talking to us. This is Brad Garret. He's ABC news crime and terror terrorism analyst, and you can follow him on Twitter at Brad investigates. Brad, thank you so much take care. Okay. So that is a terrifying thing. But you know, this is a danger. I hate I hate that that the the politics go into it. And you see this is a reason to hate someone. You you scream out maga- or whatever. That's that's just ridiculous that makes me so angry because you know, writer left this is a terrible terrible crime. If if it's proven like you said, there's no reason not to believe Jesse. But that video evidence is just so damning, but it is almost necessary in court these days. Well, hey,.
