Vent about the The bus and teams. I appreciate it now. Godson against your kabas. It'll send your cowboys as this podcast was produced by a cop creighton. We will see you on tuesday. Oh one more thing monday night. The rewatch ables the re departed. Oh did their part and again we just hack. It's fiftieth anniversary. Yeah me fettuccine chris paul world. That's great. I'm definitely going to listen to that. But we're not gonna talk soprano or have you talked about it too much already. Oh shit no am talked about it. All you want to do that and then we'll leave. So i know is a little polarizing right. I still really liked it I did too. And i'm bummed out. 'cause i'm talking a lot of people big soprano fans like i was. Okay like what what are you talking about. This is like crack for franco's fans. But i don't know that i'll ever be able to separate. It was a great movie or a great sopranos movie but talking about rewatch ables. I'd watch it the hell out of it again right bunch of times at thing. I didn't even care whether it was good or not. I love the head back in the world. I loved all the wink wink stuff to people like us. So of re watch the show. Yeah you know at least twice and any little throwaway line like a like younger uncle. Junior talked about tony. And that's sure is versus the athlete of like Back like there was twenty things like that. Molly with the with the neat freak stuff. Germ-free excited it. Was great. I mean silvio to i mean they found it's like they found the greatest silvio impersonator and he was also a really good actor like brandon believe and they acknowledged the sobia wig thing which i thought Right right and i don't think they overdid it. Either i that that could that out that coming to america to like a while. They hit that overhead. Too hard. you know like shit like that but this was a. I liked it a lot. And we'll bomb. The assad has ball received the criticism. I guess makes sense whereas they they try to shoehorn a bunch of different to make it a movie they introduce like the leslie odom and that whole side and not of the racial elements of ed but it felt a little shoehorned where it almost felt like the first movie. Just should have been all the stuff around the family and then the second movie could have been entirely not the leslie odem side instead. They tried to kind of do both. And i don't know what would it look like as an eight episode show versus a movie. I look and i leave for a sequel to so that they certainly could have done it. that way. it's a prequel sequel. yeah a pre sequel A super cool yeah. I don't know what it would be. I i love this stuff like veer. Far miya as livia as young libya. I thought was just great and planning all the stuff. Like just how crazy she was even back. Then which now know as we the first two seasons of the actual show. I i thought i thought Johnny boy was great. There's some hardcore gangster scenes at rank right up there with casino and everything right taking the guy in the back room and just like other even like with the railroad and and you know how how he may. I guess anyone listening to this is not going to be any spoilers. But how he met his demise Did you hear like the. He wanted so much money though like okay. You're going to have to play four characters. He's like i'll pay. I'll play to like talks. Don't how how to believe that. Look i really enjoyed it. I'm glad they made it. I can understand why people were a little upset that there was a million stories going on and maybe it should be a tv series. But i like being in the world again. i like. They did a good job. I think the degree difficulty that was super high. And i thought the way the hand of the tony character is great. I did too. You know the kentucky bums me now you're gonna have him on or something it's going to. It's going to suck that. I said this. But i am at bummed me out that. He saw very little of the sopranos before researching this role. Isn't that crazy that he's true. He did yeah. Well that's what he says he's like. I didn't really watch that much of the sopranos. Before i had two before took on this part like oh man. What's can you imagine. Hugh magin ben not watching your h. b. o. Shows at after you die. Like i think that's definitely the case about. Oh seven. no ashes bite. Oh i think they made smart choice to not feature him too much. They newly with now he was just used the perfect amount you know and and it really was about the people around tony that shape..

"It's an interesting idea to try to wrestle with that but telling that story from the point of view of the sopranos world and getting very brutal sometimes with the scenes between the various members of these groups. I felt like this movie was out of its area of expertise trying to tell a story about race and i'm very curious what you guys thought about that. I think the leslie odem character suffers. Maybe the most of anybody out of a lot of the shorthand that the movie has to use like. There's a point in the movie where he just kind of vanishes altogether and it's very odd because it does seem like are building towards something and even for a series. That often did anti-climax is it. Structurally feels odd to me. I think that they do some good stuff. In the first half in depicting how this guy sort of his consciousness is raised a little bit to recognize where he sits in this hierarchy. And how he really needs to break away from the mob and try to do his own thing. Even if the thing he's doing is still violent crime but no they don't ultimately service him as well as they could but it still a step up from how the show tended to write black characters to begin with which was not always great. Yeah i mean for me. I just kept coming back to the fact that these types of conflicts between italian americans and black americans have been done so many times and i think in a lot of places better and more. Interestingly a lot of those times through spike lee's movies whether it's the right thing or summer of sam. I don't know i struggle with the the sort of seamy -ness of the things that are happening and even the way in which adam juniors character comes to realize his places as allen said it just felt. I've seen this so many times. Like i could tell. This is where it was going because of the year it was set. And because of the tone that was that the fact that this is set against the backdrop of the newark uprisings. It was another thing that fell undercooked. And i think you know when it comes to the sopranos. If you wanna be undercooked about certain things that is what it is but when it comes to something like this and race and having someone as excellent as leslie junior suffer and not really have the be roll that he should have that to. Me is especially disappointing. You i mean. Most of this film was shot before. George floyd and that doesn't excuse it of course because it's certainly been sitting on the shelf a long time it's been edited and re edited. Eight seems to me like it was edited and reedited not to highlight the leslie junior character but to go back really fo- drill down on dickey mala santos story but only one aspect of his story really gets a lot of play here which is the one with his goumas mistress and that's fine but to your point asia. That also is very familiar. Like we've seen that dynamic plot hogan and again and again i mean goodfellas. I would also argue. It's not fine..

"Na member fdic okay. So it's just the two of us today and look. This is a four hour ceremony. I assure we cannot talk about everything. We cannot even hit all the winners all the performances were just gonna hit some highlights because there were a hell of a lot of highlights and a hell of a lot of performances but first. Let's get to this kind of bizarre presentation which was according to my twitter feed kind of troublesome for a lot of people. Most of the awards were handed out in the first two hours which aired on paramount plus that ceremony was hosted by the great and good audra mcdonald that left a lot more room for musical performances of which there are plenty in the last hours and they aired on cbs. That special was called. Broadway's back exclamation point because it's theater and That special hosted by leslie odem junior. What did you think of. This bifurcated approached at work for you. Not at all so confusing and i was not alone because i went on twitter to ask you both. They can help me find the second half of the show. This is just to me. Another example of the way in which theater just gets short shrift all the time because i they have the first part of the night the tony awards themselves were most of the awards handed out that's on paramount. Plus only and then you have to switch over to cbs. Or if you're on paramount plus you have to have paramount bus premium to watch the second half. But then i didn't also realize that because i'm on the west coast. They weren't showing the extra special the two ours hosted by leslie junior. That wasn't airing until later on. I guess because like paramount plus wasn't showing it until later in the evening and i was like. Don't wanna be up this. So it was very confusing and i think that having this bifurcated streaming thing is not helpful especially when you consider and i don't want to make this sound agents at all but i think the tonys especially has a much older demographic and so i wonder if it was confusing for me. I can only imagine how confusing it could have been a lot of other people who would have tuned in and so. I wonder what the audience numbers were like for that. That'll be interesting to see because again. The second half is less two hours. Had the big awards and best musical best play best revival all the other awards including a lot of actor in technical words were in those first two hours and i understand why they did it but man it made for a very odd night now however it has to be said that as a ceremony as an award ceremony. The tonys are always the best. Because you've got professional show people who know how to time their speeches. There ended up thirty seconds. They build each each of the speeches has arc in them and they get emotional and they call it back and then you know their performances are just. That's why you tune in right. Yeah i mean. I think what was great about this. Was that there was very very little banter going on with the present and these are people who could do banter because that is what they do. They are theater people. Many of them know how to improv. If they wanted to they could do it. But i appreciate the fact that especially audra mcdonald for the first half of the show was just like we got this. Many words need to hand out and we have to in two hours and the show actually finished ten minutes early. Which is i think great. So i appreciate it. How short and sweet. That part was especially okay. Let's get into it The award for best play in this was kind of a surprise to many people. Went to matthew lopez's the inheritance. It's a two part play. That adapts enforcers howards. End into a story about generations of gay men in newark city. Mattielo -pez is the first latin next render to win in this carry something. He mentioned in his speech. We are vibrant community reflecting a vast array of cultures experiences and yes skin tones. We have so many stories to tell they are inside of us. He can come out. Let us tell you are stories. Thank you for this. Thank you this play. Also one leading actor a play for andrew. Burn up featured actress in a play. I didn't understand what featured meant. I didn't know it means supporting. But of course the people are not going to say supporting they're gonna say featured featured actor in a play lowest smith at age ninety. She's the oldest winner in the acting. Category it also won four direction of a play. A lot of people were thinking that this was going to go to jeremy. oh harris's slave play which got twelve nominations which is a record but at one zip you saw slave pay right. I saw slave play and to say the least. It was a very polarizing show polarizing. I think among many different groups particularly black critics. I am one of those critics who really admired. Its ambition. And i liked it a lot more than others did. And just in case people are not aware it is about three couples who are interracial who are trying to work through what it means to be an inch racial couple and it involves lots of allusions to end includes sexual situations in which they are acting out slavery Which is a big reason. Why people had a lot of feelings about it. Jeremy harris co wrote Zola the movie from earlier. This year of that was based off of twitter thread. So yeah. I was quite surprised and kind of disappointed. I think the fact that whether you like it or not. This has made nominations but then didn't win. Any is a curious thing until you realize that. I didn't realize this that there are actually two different things going on when it comes to nominations and the actual awards. There's a smaller committee tasked with seeing all the shows and they are the ones who vote for it and you know. I think it's like a few dozen people and they each have like three year terms that overlap and then there's eight hundred plus people in the voting body there might be a little bit of overlap there. But that's like a huge number disparity. Which i think is why we see something like this happen. Where something like. The inheritance wins over slave play. Yeah so there's a lot of reasons why it didn't win anything i think. In you know there's no way to know. But those are a couple possibilities for vice chacao ensuring like flays polarizing among black critics. I have to tell you that The inheritances is equally polarizing among gay. Critics it is a play that launched a thousand hot takes. The best revival play went to a soldier's play. We got a greatly. I order the evening was David alan grier featured actor in a play. He gave a great speech with a lot of great energy guys and to the other nominees. Tub bananas i want and it also won for best revival of a play as you mentioned and the director kenny. Leon gave a tremendous speech no disc to shakespeare. no this to epson to check off to shaw. They're all at the table but the table got to be bigger issue..

I really like him to my My baby the week is leslie. Odem juniors performances. Aaron burn hamilton. I i saw advantage. But i didn't see what the original cast and there was a six five guys sitting in front of me for the first couple of accidents in the worst mood and then finally my jeff sacrifices like switch seats with me. 'cause like i can't hang out with you the rest of the day if you're going to be this pissed but you know they're in burke hairdryers also pissed and a little petty but he plays it bone deep. Dude if you watch you can watch it on. Disney plus like his performance as leslie owed his performances. Aaron burr is unbelievable. He like each line with like this sadness and this kind of annoying quality. But it's so deep you kind of just relate to it and he just destroys it and mail man mohan. Manuel miranda is kind of bad as hamilton. Really he's kind of bad he's so talented hits. Your genes came up with this whole thing. He's kind of like a real door. And he he. He doesn't kind of to broaden his choices to and like. The guy i saw i think was better. He felt like that the line in my shot he was like young scrappy and hungry ni. He like he kind of breed that into the whole thing but But dude leslie juniors phenomena my favorite songs wait for two and the way he performs just amazing but i recommend anybody watch them is pay attention to him. And he did that with john travolta and it turned out to be like an amazing an amazing choice and just fired me up that he's he's like he's like the kind of guy that that'll sort of stand up for someone when when they're not hot or whatever and and and he just holds true to his vision and and he like. He's he's rebirth so many careers with his casting. And it's just like out here on. That just really inspired me. And i was like. Yeah without that we wouldn't have had faceoff get shorty. Get shorty phenomenon. That's not even good. But i'm just listening. John travolta movies aero broken arrow swordfish on solid swordfish or fish So yeah. I just thought that was really cool to hear. I've always seen you as a bridge to the cultural divide. What what can you suggest a sensible realistic reformed proposals could thank you. And i share with you. The horror of us becoming used to picking up the paper and seeing another mass shooting and some part of the country and here is in a sense. The good news on happy to play a very active role in this. Nobody is talking about. What right wing. Republicans suggesting nobody is talking about taking away every gun in america stopping hunting target shooting etc etc. What we are talking about is sensible gun. Safety legislation should criminals people the history of violence on guns. The answer is no what we need. Strong background checks. We need to do away with the so called gun. Show loophole where people can legally buy guns and avoid a background check in my view. We need to do away with military style assault weapons. Aoc rashida to leave and omar have said and done particularly when it comes to israel in talking about from the river to the sea and the extermination of israel as a right to exist. Or do you think the movement which you started has moved away from what you envisioned well first of all. They don't believe that's what they're saying. The second thought my job to have to defend every member of congress anymore than it is their job to defend every statement. But i make what i am. Focusing on right. Now is the reality that for the last many many decades the very rich in america become much richer while working people are struggling. Real wages have not gone up and forty eight years. And when i'm working on right now is a budget which says to the wealthiest people in this country. You don't want even if you're a multi-billionaire with incredible power going gonna have to start paying your taxes. Lodge profitable corporations will start paying their taxes. So that we can. In fact rebuild our infrastructure create good paying jobs. Make sure that families could afford childcare expand medicare so that elderly people can have teeth in their mouths be able to hear how eyeglasses that they can afford. That's what i am focusing on right now. I think the folks in this the progressives in the house doing a very good job at standing up for working families. It's not my job to comment on everything that any member of the house anymore. It is for them to comment on what i say. Okay our thanks to senator bernie sanders for always fighting the good fight. We'll be right back so someone just wrote onto slates advice column i. After they found that their friends spouse was on a dating app. Oh so sunny. Let me start with you. If you spotted your man on a dating app. His the question would you strangle him. A poison him. Oh i thought this was the best. Somebody else has been on the act. But i set exactly exactly slowly. That's positive real question is would you but the real question the real question is would you snitch. Like if you saw that your friends spouse was on this dating app on whatever it is tender whatever it is Would you tell your girlfriend. would you tell her. See i gotta tell you so. I would tell you would. I would tell 'cause i wanna know i wanna know so i would tell. Yeah i'm gonna tell her all right how to sure how about you imagine. Would you tell mango. This actually happened to me. But it wasn't a close friend. It was like a like a work acquaintance and her husband was on tinder. And let me tell you that. Got screen shot and send around our whole group of friends and they certainly present themselves on social media like they have a perfect marriage. I did not say anything. Because i don't want to get into any messy stuff. That's not a very close friend of mine but be careful about tinder and all these things. A lot of people are on them. And i saw the screen shot and it i don't i don't mess with them anymore. Because for a lot of reasons right they don't have a perfect way. No no es bueno and they might be a thrill they might be a threat. It was very sarah. That's true i'm sorry going on how close i am to the friend. When i imagined like my best friends. I would be calling for jumping in a train car. An airplane to get to them. Because i can't imagine actually dealing with this. If it were an acquaintance or someone a little further out. I would stay out of it because you've never. You never really know what's going on But if it were a close friend you know. I would be showing up like pull nearing zoff getting ready. Like i would be right there. Yeah how about you anna. I don't think i would tell my friend. But i'd call him and i'd say meet. They got al seem better wings. Are this is going to do. And and i'll also tell you this if it was miami halston i'd offer him witness protection. You know and political. Hell no don't get involved in other people's we've got that would be a death wish sunny death. Wish everybody's got you a number sunny. I helped. manny is protected from. Don't do this okay baby. Don't say nothing like you are a guy like say nothing don't they don't girl don't don't don't say nothing. So the same on stephen. So she put out a Is more than two tweets. I guess this is the thread. And i'm incredibly disappointed with myself while. Megan statement in defense of lin. Manuel miranda show last night. I was clearly dismissive of black lives matter and our latin community it so easy to forget how celebration for some as lament for others. In addition into applauding i one for movie version of in the heights at my appreciation for his sensitivity and resolve to be more inclusive of inclusive of the afro latino community going forward seeing. You can teach this old dog new tricks rita shit so that's the thing so i don't think like they might as essentially i didn't see hamilton until it was on disney. Plus because you couldn't get tickets okay So i liked hamilton okay. But he wasn't the best part. Let me just say that he wasn't again. Leslie odem junior. Glad that read a walk this back and this is what happens when you give a good apology like is i am not. We are not after latino so what is not up to us to give like to accept any apology but it seemingly has like people like okay but don't think that people don't have their hairy eyeball on e. marino like okay. Listen here he got moreno. I got my guest to show title got moreno Because we got we got one little hairy eyeball on you. But i'm glad she walked it back because the thing about this is that that's that's always going to be the discussion right where we're talking about one when you had darker skin lat next hispanic folks One they were like trying to push them to the backgrounds. They did at the last olympics when he had an rio. They tried not to show the favila because a lot of the darker skin latinos. That's where he lived not a lot not all of them but they tried to like make sure they didn't show that because they didn't want they didn't want to see the darker skin people because we want they want you to see the The giselle bunch of it all when she's not she was just born in rio. And i'm also cuban. It's like a lot on because it's interesting that there are some lennox folks who don't don't say they're black. I'm cuban i'm not black. A right angled black somewhere. I love david fincher and i don't know if you should win for this one but if there's a time to give it to him maybe they're gonna think it's this time okay. Yeah that's fair. I'm gonna go with should win and will win for closure for nomad lands. I definitely see your point. Though with the the david fincher thing. I could see the academy doing that kind of thing but yeah i think it's clue as your though. I think. I think that she's got this one locked up and as we've been seeing these things don't always mean anything but all of the awards and all that stuff. They've all gone to her. And i just i think it would be crazy if she loses but i guess we will find out but what is something that you think should have been nominated again. I'm going to say Charlie kaufman that movie is just. It's just so good. I know the story is just. I guess he suffers from just being too out there sometimes and maybe at face value people. What was that. I don't like it. But i think just every viewing you realize how much how good it is. And so i feel like his directing and also the writing is sometimes overlooked And not appreciated so. I loved like how he what he did in that movie so i feel like he should have got nominated as well. Yeah i i love it. I love it so much however not my pick for the should be as much as i love charlie kaufman. I do think that the movie is a little bit four. Charlie kaufman may maybe for the hardcore fans. One thing i one thing i noticed about twenty twenty there's a lot of amazing Debut films lot of first time filmmakers and one of them that i think would have been great to nominate was doria smarter. Sound of metal. That film is just so amazingly put together and just the way that tells the story in a way that's like unique and and it really is just firing on every cylinder from the from the sound design to the acting to the story to everything that comes together in that film I just think is just done. So expertly and Just one of the year's best so let's move on to the acting categories and we'll start off with supporting actress. We have maria. Buck lova for borat subsequent movie film glenn close for hillbilly elegy. Olivia colman for the father. Amanda see freed for mink and you-zhong yawn for monari Who do you think should win. And who will win. Who should win. I have to go with my clean Olympia coleman i mean. She's already one. But i feel like she should be up there with those two time. Oscar winning actress is i think she would probably be I don't know how many there are. But maybe julia roberts and meryl streep's won a few. So i think she's just as good and i feel like she should get it But i think will win. I think i would not be mad about this either. Maria buckle ova one some of the words leading up to this. And i don't know i think if you do that type of movie and what she had to go through. You deserve it as well. So i won't be. I won't be mad with either of those that would be great if she won I i agree with your should win. Livia coleman definitely is who should win in my opinion as far as will win. I'm going to go with the man to see freed from bank. I just think that she see it. Seems like the performance that would get awarded especially in a supporting Supporting category it just feels like the thing that would win to me and i have nothing more than that to say other than just it feels like it's gonna win but do you think should have been nominated. Yeah oh there is a lot of good performances hit to make up my mind. I wrote like a bunch of them. And then i'm like how about you go first and then i'll i'm going to finalize. Sure sure well my my pick. I think should have been nominated for this. This was definitely a little bit of a tough one for me. They're like you said there's a lot of great performances this year but once i thought like felt like they would actually get nominated. It was kind of a little bit tough to pick from I'm gonna go with olivia cook for sound of metal. Obviously i loved this movie so much and i love olivia cook. I mean everything that i've seen her in. I just think that she is such a great actress. One of the best young actresses working right now. And i just think it's such a strong and varied performance throughout the the time line of the film itself. And there's just so much to the character. And i just think that this would be a great place to Actually start recognizing her for the great work that she's putting in. Yeah i did have her on my list because The sound of metal. Like i don't know. I it was it was like she was in in the whole time when she did. I kind of longed for her. I mean rhythm. Ed is very good. I am not saying that. I didn't like watching him but like she was very captivating onscreen. I have to say. And i i. She's one of those actors. Like i've seen her before and i had to like look up. 'cause like where it but i remember she kind of stands out and everything she does Somebody kind of piggyback off. You say that one to kind of help narain on it that that works for me. All right let's move onto best supporting actor. We've got sasha baron cohen for the trial of the chicago seven daniel kelly for judas in the black messiah. Leslie odem junior for one night in miami paul receiver sound of metal and lakeith stanfield for judas and the black messiah. Who do you think should win. And who will win. Should win is keith stanfield. I stand by my pick. I've i when i saw that movie I know daniel daniela. Performance is the one getting more of the hype. I think but for me what lakisha is with subtle and it's really hard to pull off like that internal struggle And i feel like daniel lewis. Performs obviously with fred hampton. It was more showy in our very good because when they show that clip at the end. And if you see those interviews. It's like it was uncanny. But i have to say that. Like i don't know something about the heat's performance of of really Like what that guy had to go through you know like what is character to go through and you can't show ally you know because it's like he can't give away what he's doing and so. I really hope that like he should win. I feel in my opinion. Who will win. I think it's going to be Daniel colusa just. Because i mean he's equally as great and i think maybe they're they're he's probably gonna get it and he has been winning up to this so Those are two my two picks. And i won't be mad about either like yeah my guy and i hope he wins. Yeah the i. I love lakeith to he. He he's awesome. I think it's kinda weird i mean. I think all of us think is kind of weird that he's up for supporting actor when it should be best actor but that's a whole nother story and who knows how these things work out. The way they do. But i i wanna go is should win. For paul racy for sound of metal which. I'm just so excited that he is even nominated. I did not expect it to happen. But we'll win. Definitely daniel coup the performance to be and it is you know appropriately. Great and i will not be mad at all of you. Wins this one What do you have for something that should have been nominated. Yeah is delroy. Lindo considered would be supporting. Because i know he. He he got snubbed or is he. I think most people are putting them in lead lead. Okay so i would say maybe chadwick boseman for defy bloods because he was shorting actor and so I know he's nominated in the lead Lead acting category. But if there was a time for him you know to be in two categories. He'd definitely deserved that one. So but that was a tough category to be honest. I'm i'm sort of not mad.

"A do over. Okay coming up the oscar. Nominations came out just moments ago. We are going to break down the big surprises and snubs in everything you need to know. That's next we're not just celebrating the grammy's today the oscar. Nominations were just announced this morning by priyanka. Nick jonas joining us now to break it. All down is rotten. Tomatoes editor and hosa run. Tomatoes is wrong. Podcast jacqueline colleague so glad to be back on oscars morning. This is my super bowl year. Thank you for being here. Let's get right to joseph gina. Yes i mean but you know what this was actually a really historic morning though for acting nominations very first we had nine people of color nominated for best actor including two asian men and six black nominees that is now the record for most black nominees. Big the big one. That i think folks are going to be excited about is chadwick. Boseman winning bittersweet posthumous nomination but so well-deserved on the other side there was also diversity on behind the camera with brian. Kugler shock king and charles king becoming the first black producing pair for a best picture. Nomination chad so like kugler got his black panther nomination oscar. It was just for a different black but he made it happen. Camera actress category. Who you think think's gonna take it. This is what is so interesting about it. A lot of the acting contests are kind of wide open. Even though you have the pedigree of someone like viola and francis in that one. I you know andrade took best golden globe against these same crew of women and also carey mulligan. I think is the dark horse. Wants to kind of come out. Y'all but nessa kirby in pieces of a woman absolutely incredible absolutely incredible and i have to say it was one of those films where the directing was also very important because in order to feel that emotion of what she was going through. I mean this woman brought out something in me. I don't even have over. And i don't want at this point. I don't even want one got an incredible opening scene. And i think she's great but it's only it's a single nomination and you have so many films like monari and mink and also Once sorry one night in miami with multiple nominations. It's kind of hard to think that a single nomination might take it home but there's still a lot to be said also you said you guys just did the grammys. Lots of double music's leslie odem junior and also Andrade double nominees both as composers and then as well for yeah for. Who do you think is taking home. Best picture honestly now in the black messiah. I did not think this morning. I know so. Nomad land has been sweeping up. This is a very similar to roma green book. Type situation remember the oscars are the oscars and this is exactly the type of film that they love. Nomad land is safe. Money right now but you know so whenever you watch the films did you think of media thought average or do you think that now because of how how has gone down. I mean. i've lived this. So yeah i've been. I've been making tally.

"Through and so this is. This is very very important movie. Plus you get to see some incredible acting what leslie odem junior. When he was singing his thumb them cook. You know and it was like that one or it was like an almost brought tears to my eyes because of how powerful performance was. Yeah that i mean out of all the cast members let leslie. Junior was the one that just kind of a captured. A just a mesmerized. Be the most emmy. And i've seen as town before but just seeing seeing our greatest singer in an actor he is. I just look at him. Like i wanna seem more things. It's this really awesome to see what he can do. But i mean of course the rest of the cast as while it just that the way have Keenly benadryl has now connected dairy very good but you know with denzel paying mouth x. Can't really you know. One is super superior to the other whereas like ally. Gory did really well as ali. And we've seen you know. Will smith ali in. Maybe better this time around like you know So but yeah that scene without taj when he was at the white man how you know this. It was his team. That was his coach. this is his guy. This is his one that he wanted to bring in. You know expand make lots of money with and he still wouldn't let them in and out because he was black that's how insane that moment was But it really set up for the rest of the tone for the rest of the in regina king she deserves. You know because one thing that i always you know. Take to heart about a director Doing a movie or whatever is like you're really.

Can we've seen done many times. We have to imitate. And i think that guy did a really good job. As far as getting that early cashes clay bravado personality dude handle it was talking about like him and his interactions with jim brown. His interactions with with malcolm x. I mean his every all their interactions like his interactions with jim brown. I thought were amazing. Because you've got jim brown. Who's like kind of like a more seasoned. Nfl player and he's a little bit older. And now you're you're you're at muhammad ali at the at the height of his of his career. after beating. sonny liston eight twenty two years old. He still super young and he still. You know what i mean like. His his ego is through the roof. And this guy this guy is fucking killing it as i get lost the way he sounds like muhannad. If you shut your eyes it sounds like you're listening to the real mohammed ali. Do i was loan the fuck away. Do i mean it could easily come across as a as a cheap imitation or a caricature if you do it incorrectly. And this guy he he nailed it and leslie odom junior. I think you haven't seen hamilton right. I brent. I've maintained that leslie odem junior and my personal opinion is the most talented person of hamilton and gas over over to be digs over. Dvd lin manuel. miranda linlin. Well is more is talented in different ways like the creative mind behind everything but not i think the person who has the best singing wrapping just stage presence over all my thing was always leslie oldham and going going. I've always thought that going into this with his character of sam cooke. Here's the thing you've got. You've got malcolm x one of the leaders of the civil rights movement. You've got cashes. Clay play by allegory. You know later known as mohammed ali. Who's he's trying to figure out like. Am i going to be a member of the nation of islam. And you know i mean. That's a big step in his career as a boxer and and as as you know the supporting the civil rights movement. You've got jim brown from the nfl who you know like we can talk about his acting career after that. And then sam cooke as the singer. You've got dude. When i was watching this. They seem kind of clunky. The background dancers. So I just threat out there or her. I will say I I had a the complete opposite opinion about the ensemble, cast. Really re I feel like they were one of the highlights for me. In the first time, we've watched it like three times in my house. Came out because my kids just keep watching. Doesn't credit. We haven't like sat down like not sat down and watched it three times. We all sat down to watch it. And then like, and then like the kids just put it back on interest on in the house. Yeah Yeah. Let's see. I'll I'll say this and I think this is is well known I think everyone accepts this. lin-manuel Miranda's is the worst performer that's onstage at any given point in time like he's not he's not the he's not he's The star of the show, but he's not the star of the show. He's not. He's not the most talented one who's actually there present. Sure which is named Leslie Odem junior I think who plays Aaron Burr? He actually won the Tony for like best male actor whatever that year and his performance I think is is outstanding. K- kind of in comparison to to lin-manuel Miranda's. Portrayal we'll like like. The you know Jefferson. Washington old all these other all these other voices that are are out there. The they have they have. Very very good voices That's a that's a positive like their voices are beautiful. Dare dare. I. Say it dare I say the the B Word Their their beautiful voices and Elementary Crying Voice. Crying singing voice like Oh God. Oh, which which he doesn't. He doesn't go that like distraught Oh that's brandon. Cry He. Doesn't. He doesn't get to that same sort of breakdown in like the recording sessions for for the soundtrack so. It was kind of it was interesting to hear the difference in the performance on stage verse, you know the the recordings. And he definitely does like get into that crying voice a little bit more in performance and I was like, okay. All right. Yeah. Yeah, it wasn't. That wasn't my favorite part for highlight, and that's on a highlight of of your show for you. So. Let me let me let me ask. Let me ask you this because this will. This will affect what I how I feel about this. I liked I liked the historical pieces of it, and then you know the final song talking about legacy and talking about you know, tell tell the story and it's obviously talking about What's her face you know as his wife? Elisa. And in the song ends with like who's GonNa tell my story then then it's her and fades fades the plaque and then curtain call right Is is that is that meant to be like? Hamilton that we're actually talking about it like we're we. This is in a way to tell her story is that is that what that supposed to mean I don't know. So there's there's a weird thing 'cause the the actual play and with. That sort of like. Death scream from her. She she screams at the end which is supposed to symbolize her death and her joining Hamilton on the other side right and that is not. In the audio recordings for the soundtrack that the. Who who lives who dies he tells your story fades out and and. End. Of End of track. Repeat to first song bump butter dump pump. And so so that was actually a little jarring for me because I didn't know that was going to be there and. kind of left me thinking about sort of what you're. Talking about. I've always listened to that song with sort of the thought of. Lake her the things that she did she lived much longer than Alexander Hamilton did and she she sort of fulfilled a lot of things and sort of ensured his legacy beyond you know what he was capable of doing on his own. The orphanage that she started is still like actually an adoption like organization in the United States and. You know a lot of those things she she ensured his legacy but that is also her legacy, right? That is those are the things that she did and continued to do you know. For her husband and for herself and I think I think it's good that that song highlights all of those things and shows that she wasn't just. Hamilton's wife. But. She actually went on and did a lot of great things in her own right and and was not just a support to this founding father but only you know went and did a lot of great things herself. So yeah, I. Don't I think. I think it's I listed I. Uh, Song a multitude of ways in terms of like thinking about a personally like my legacy and what that means and what that means it with my family and how I raised my kids and you know like setting them up for success in the future and what I do career wise and what I do with a podcast and all kinds of different things but. Also. Just like. I don't know like what it means for Hamilton and just the fact that we are talking about him this this play this musical. Talks about a before this play came out like people weren't really hyped on Hamilton or who he was he he's he doesn't. He didn't get a lot of recognition. So it is. It is almost Meta in that way that it it talks about you know his legacy in what he did for. The. Define forming of our government and our. Political system and everything else yeah. I I. Guess The the reason I bring up the that last song. Particular in the screen adaptation of it. Is. With ending on on her in that. Too. That's a like it's supposed to signify the importance of of her throughout the entire thing like the the entire show then ends on on on her Hamilton. Right Elisa Hamilton and what does that what does that mean for the context of the rest of the play because that's what the that's that's what the last song it's supposed to sum everything up. Right that's that's the point of the. The last song is like, what is the theme of the entire play? And what is what?.

It's so exciting. This film is coming out a year from September. Yeah. Twenty twenty right. We're in two thousand nineteen and they've been endorsed for over a month. Now scouting out locations because Tony soprano, of course, grew up in Newark in the sixties. And so I've been on Branford place, and it's not far from the nj pack and this street has been transformed. There've been a sixties era era, trucks and vehicles and cars aligning, the streets and extras dressed, and you know, sixties clothing, and they've got the fedora had and, you know, scientists say hot coffee for five cents, but a third stop all this stuff all over like this sixty TV's that I mean, it looks like a TV set that my mother had when I was a little girl. We're close to the floor canister mannequin head of mannequin Bergelin back over the street. They're going back fifteen years, right? Yeah. Well, there's recreating the nineteen sixty seven Ryan. Work on this particular, you know, shoot, and it there's just stuff all over the place and people were running through the streets. They they had like two hundred extras come in dressed in sixty scarves to run through the streets and recreate that also moment in July of nineteen sixty seven and so all of the storefront had to be retooled. Right. They had to put the sixty signs, and, you know, sixty placards, and they wrote like they scrawled like soul brothers on one of the windows. The one place that did not have to change it all with the hobby deli. It was opened in the late fifties. And the owner of that deli. Escaped Nazi Germany and came to the United States openness deli very popular Delhi. And when when this particular street was closed off he refused. They weren't. Nobody was supposed to come into this area. Because it was so dangerous, and I talked to stun Michael Bremmer. And he told me that his father refused any open the business. Anyway, he didn't care what color you are heated care. What religion you were? He had to flee his homeland because he was Jewish. There was no way he was talking to serve someone because of the color of their skin or their religion. So he insisted on staying open and his business has thrived all of these years. And it really hasn't changed that much and they had this neon sign. Everybody new hobby Delhi by neon sign, but it really hadn't been working lately until they decided to film them in Newark. So here's Michael are. You featured prominently in.
