Major Real Estate Website Now Shows Flood Risk
"D. Y. E. N., dot com slash NPR to learn more many people who lose their homes wildfires or in hurricanes did not know they were in harm's way. You can understand that this might happen. You know that the houses near the words or near the. Coast, but you don't quite realize the risk don't quite realize the extent of the danger. One major real estate site is now showing a homes flood risk along with photos of the kitchen and living room so that people will know this is one way that climate change has become a more direct part of home-buying. A long-term decision that a lot of people make our reporting from NPR's climate team starts with NPR's Rebecca Hersher. It's obvious to a lot of Americans that climate change means more flooding more than a thousand homes and businesses are flooded in the Jackson Mississippi Southern Louisiana Sixty thousand homes north. West of Omaha is still dealing with the math more than four hundred homeowners. Even, though government flood maps have been around since the seventies, there was no mention of flooding on real estate websites until today Leslie Jordan is a vice president of the website realtor dot com, which lists more than one hundred, ten, million homes. Flooding is the most common costly natural disaster in the US. So realtor DOT COM has added flood information to every listing Jordan says that's thanks in part to a new privately funded fled information project called flood factor. Matt E B. is one of the CO founders of. Flood factor which rates houses on a scale from one to ten. So if it's very likely a very deep flood, you'll get a flood factor of ten for that property. If it's very unlikely, then it'll be a flood factor one, the ratings take into account climate change particularly sea level rise and more extreme rain ev says that kind of Info has actually been out there for years. It's just that regular people haven't had access to it. A. Democratization of this information is the way that we like to think about. It because there are people who already have this information and they're already acting on it people like mortgage insurance companies and large real estate developers, some of which have fought against public flood disclosure laws. So are other real estate sites also going to add this information. Can you say We are hopeful and happy to engage in those conversations with folks and that less than specific answer made my colleague Pr's Climate Team Lauren summer wonder what is going on with the other real estate websites so she called them i. I I asked Zillow if they're thinking about publishing flood, risk their number of challenges with that, and it's something that I think sooner or later would be a great feature to include Jeff. Tucker is an economist at Zillow who has studied how the homes they help sell art risk from climate change hundreds of billions of dollars just tremendous amount of real estate at risk primarily from coastal flooding for instance, Tucker. Says the company has had internal discussions about including flood risk, but they expect pushback from some users the current. May Be very unhappy to have that kind of information surfaced. If they're interested in selling their home, I heard the same thing from Taylor Mar lead economist at red. Fin. Could this actually reduce the value of this existing homeowner and essentially take away a lot of their net worth Marceau's on the buyer side Redfin survey show that three quarters of them. WanNa know about natural disasters before making an offer but he says that Info can't. Crowd out other fell on the website. If we made the whole front page just about flood risk, they might not be as easily able to navigate how long the commute is. For example, Maher says they're looking at testing including flood

"Thank you to here we are I don't know what happened the law I really do the event how's everybody doing today how is everybody I haven't even looked at our our little buttercup Leslie Jordan I don't know I have felt no spark for any jury I've just this is just been heavy were heavy and then I just think stop being a baby you're a white person get over yourself you know what I mean it's just I don't know I feel very I feel very just over overwhelmed with it all today and I guess I'm kinda almost sort of glad it's hello I didn't get that message until later this morning does that it's at least the social media music world going dark for blackout Tuesday because maybe a lot of people are I think I'm exhausted for the from the back tees and the Kerins the firms of the world I love it thank you for adding a man's voice for you that makes me happy burn yeah recalling I'm so sorry to the the good birds out there yeah but you know you know we ourselves anyway but yeah I think a lot of people are it today we hope that our show is a mix of but we usually talk about and keep having the conversation about what is going on in our communities and what we've learned and I think I I don't have a conversation I can't think of one without talking about George flight in talking about what's going on in talking about how it's impacting us and learning more about our selves I'm learning so much more about myself and doing additional reading and figuring out how I've talked to Mike long conversations with my kids and just we don't we don't know what we don't know and it's time to learn it's time to learn and we are going to have a really cool Gaston at three fifteen merry Francis is with the winters group which is our a consulting firm that's been in business over thirty years and their whole goal is to help people I'm hi it's a global diversity and inclusion consulting firm she's written four books so I'm really interested to hear her talk about how we do better and what we can do in one of the big things everyone is saying that we've been talking to I feel like is we need to have the tough conversations and you gotta keep sticking in there and you got to keep talking about it and it's painful and it's exhausting but it it's not stopping and we have to do it good things are happening our governor are his sense of the governor here from Paul Folger not full jurors thank you not the coffee guys that's everybody at the bottom of the hour I will I wanted this to be like Nickelodeon and now he didn't have the ended their everything for eight and half minutes which is how long the video is intended how long you know George Floyd was under than any of the police officer as they were slowly killing him and I was like could we do that exam for class I know but right we do that and then it was just kinda like no you ladies I can be able to do that yeah well you know Nickelodeon doing that is really powerful as a former Nickelodeon viewer a kid who grew up watching Nickelodeon and when they decided to pivot to news stories they used to have Nick news with Linda Ellerbee other things like that so exposing kids to these kinds of social messages is really powerful and really important and guaranteed they're going to watch that and they're going to take something from it yeah it it it it what it is today at four o'clock and it's across Viacom CBS is entertainment in youth brands which include MTV Comedy Central Nickelodeon paramount network BT pop TV CMT VH one logo in Smithsonian and CBS sports are gonna cease programming for eight minutes and forty six seconds to protest the death of George Floyd this is the amount of time of course that we just talked that the officers I need was on his neck and people have needs that is back and along with that they're going to have the natural sound of breathing and the words I can't believe Brees set which is so powerful I think that's amazing and like you said Ali I mean there's no one there is no I don't think anybody is not talking about this which is yeah with everybody and you I think you are you're where I was yesterday I couldn't even talk yesterday so I don't even know I was so grateful that your mouth kept working and you're set and that something in I think I was having some different conversations with people last night and not to make this about me but I'm just going to talk about small changes that people can make called kindness to your fellow Americans just flat out kindness we get visceral hate things here and I we've never talking you are you're so good at not worrying about what other people think that I got a beautiful beautiful Cardiff beautiful stationery yesterday I was so excited open I think hot pink thinking someone is going to it was just to me and I thought oh this is exciting you know because you always hear about your heritage I'm just you know not to trivialize it but it just was like oh this is so pretty and I waited to right before the show to open it up yesterday thinking well this is just be such a nice thing it'll be a nice thing because I was really struggling yeah and I opened it up and it was printed out and it was here is true here is Julia basically you are such a horrible damn the why how do they keep you on the air you shouldn't you are such a sorry dis excuse for talk show I mean would you complain about your ADHD and yet why don't you take my medication how are you still on the air and it just went on again you are bad you are awful you are terrible you and then then she signed it because she didn't leave a return it was like fancy stationary and I thought I just burst into tears and so then I was just I couldn't let it go here like let it go and clean so sweet let it grow and Amy third cycle according to start you got a taste of hate that people get all the time and time and and how it affected me mmhm and how I could just let it go in the end and how insidious it is when you think about how it's just a look yeah it's just all and how that would make you feel twenty four seven and that is your right Laurie and so yes I don't understand why but I do understand we've ignored it for so long it's been going on in our black and brown and indigenous communities we have I get it but despite small taste and how I could just brush it off well really I I guess I could talk yesterday I didn't talk I know I I get the fact that you know somebody takes the time to write a letter you know a cards and stationery right in hand right on both sides of the car you know how much the stock or whatever you know yeah I mean Hey I yes and of course the U. I I probably I get more you know emails or comments eight maybe not as much anymore than now they're on the air that we've been on for so long yeah you know people have given me a hard time about I'm what a hard time I give you or this or that but I mean I I I don't know if it's the birth order thing I'm the oldest I don't care I know people who I don't know what they think about me or what they have to say to me and now I even care even less when it comes to the bakkies the cairns in the Vernon world because we are not going to be quiet we are not going to be silent and that is just the way it's going to be you're just gonna have to toughen up early I am the lord for me Holly I was like oh my gosh I kept it and she's just gonna throw that out right now you're in the garbage can do not even think of it as I am just thinking why we just need to find it listen for whatever reason this person it yeah her feel better to do that I I can imagine in a million years ever taking the time to I mean there is a certain person at sixteen hundred Pennsylvania Avenue I do love to send cards to but I will not waste a stamp okay because he doesn't care what I think absolutely and so you know you just is that mine said you know you could so it's falling down the rabbit hole it is and I don't want to make it about that night saying how that one incident and then I just think about being black brown indigenous and what that must feel like yeah because I am what I think never had to deal with that it is really don't it's really bad so I am we're gonna have a mixed show we've got some of our old stuff coming back today Lara yes and and and I will just say about the the black code Tuesday was originally organized by the music community does social media were world went dark also in support of the black lives matter movement and Instagram and Twitter and top record labels and everyday people full of black squares posted in response to the deaths of George Florida Ahmad our our very beyond a tailor and so many others and most of the captions were blank although some posted it has take the show must be paused for black heard imho Jeez or encouraging people to vote today because there are seven states and the district of Columbia that had I had primary election great day and also Spotify blacked out the art work for several of its popular play lists and then the streaming service also prints black lives matter playlist on its that front page including some of the songs that we have played or going to play Sam Cooke's a change is gonna come childish Gambino's this is America James brown's say it loud I'm black and I'm proud and so that that I I think it's really cool and there was going to be a benefit at the Apollo theater that we could have streamed live tonight but that is going to take place on Thursday instead of today okay so that's what's going on when we come back we're gonna talk with mayors Francis winter we'll be right back.

"Be the best part Leslie by Pie. Thank you so has happened. That did happen and I am just tickled to Pacers did has a you know I must say. I admire your restraint during that interview. Thank you I. There are a few times where I had a little out of body experience and I realized I wasn't. I was tempted. I of course had the temptation to do it. Do his voice for those of you. Don't tell my my penchant for imitating people to their face which would sounds mean. But it's actually a I think it's order you have. It's motivated motivated more by affection When I'm watching a movie or if it's someone with an accent I have to repeat what they're saying that voice so I did not do with Leszek but it's part of to know you did it a little bit just not that much not nearly as much as I thought okay. Well it's it's difficult for me and especially with somebody like that because he I love. He's he's he doesn't have just one of those ever people use this expression a little too much. Do I think at myself included but I really listen to him reading the phone book and enjoy it. Yeah it's hard to imagine a more pleasing fun voice. Lau Albert Abraham Ston fourteen technology to Cherry Hill terrace which would which partially partially explains his rise to fame on instagram. Absolutely but it's not only partially out content. Oh yes very funny too but I wonder about Leslie. Antibiotics Kent whom we mentioned earlier. How just had the level of awareness they have for how unique they are and and where their charm How where they're charm resides right? I don't know I don't know there seems to be an innocence about him. Yes there's a there's a when you go about both of them but about Leslie Because when you talk to him about monetize ing yeah. This new found fame as and I believed him when when he implied that he didn't set out abso. You know get rich off his fame absolutely it. The whole thing struck him as an. I also believe that a huge surprise and like a welcome one. I think he's having fun with it And I I love that. He was honest about. And that's part of what makes them so. Entertaining is his honesty. He's just each tells these great stories but he doesn't have much of a filter and I think people have been really responding to that. Well that's also the sober thing I've noticed on the show. A lot of we've had a bunch of gas now who are sober and who have gone through a process to get sober. And there's a there's a commonality among all of them have notice you know. There's there's a kind of thoughtful wisdom and honesty and openness about them and that's a huge because they've done a lot of work on themselves right and I can tell that he's done a lot of work on himself and that he's struggled and so much of that. Work involves opening up and sharing with others oftentimes with strangers which is exactly what he's doing on Instagram. And his struggle specifically is so complex. I think being a flamboyant guest kid from a very conservative area southern Baptist Southern Baptist Claims he he. He talked about having a very macho father. But the father sounded you know. It's hard to tell but Santa somewhat supportive were bought a doll news a kid but but the only matters is leslie was scared of what you know. He would think of him from his perspective. His father wasn't necessarily accepting was so again. Like how complicated life tag? But looking at it. Through the prism of history. You know that's like you said. Relatively the father was probably far more accepting an open but who knows my mom she. I remember her buying the cabbage patch. Kids and I remember you guys. Kind of teasing me about yeah. I'm sorry about that. We should done that. That was we were kids in the eighties. And there were very specific. Gender norms that that we grew up with but Our mother encouraged. I think in part because she wanted daughter Yeah And then in retrospect I feel like I'm ashamed of my behavior as a kid because who now of course we live in such a different time and much more open time. Like who cares if you know boys well. You shouldn't dwell on many other things that I I'm ashamed up But yeah you're really into that that you were into Anne and Superman three. We've talked about that on the show. Those really the two movies that you watched obsessively that is a fact I did not know that Short Leslie Jordan four eleven. And we're supposed funny he goes. I'm for eleven and you go now out. He's had a gray line he said yeah. I'm like a beach ball are yeah he has lines. So he's he's so funny he's still should something. I mean he does. That's what he does you mentioned guerrillas. Pickles again yeah. Now you're mentioning. Well I'm hoping to get more pickle. I'm not an activist. Said his hand on his own pickle. I okay realize I would love Leslie. Speaking monetize Lesley's monetize adventure. He'd be tell me any many things. Right now yeah. He could become a billionaire advertising things he could sell. He could sell sand to a nomad in a desert. Usa Sports you ask them with sports play and he said wrestling one on one wrassling wrassling. There's something cheeky about gay men of that age. You go with me on this. There must well. I really hope this isn't offensive. But there must be a sense of real liberation when it comes to being open about their sexuality and being able to express their sexuality Although with Leslie doesn't sound the key state in the closet for that long but I do know men of that age are either one way or the other leaning to sexual innuendos or whatever or they or avoid it because how they they were for so many years yeah. We probably also should've mentioned earlier. That what is what people maybe most know him from is will and grace. That's true I know. Yeah but I had seen him in so many other things he there was another actor couple actors when it comes to mind. Tim Camp for cancer as last name. He's Polish using Police Academy Very short short care. They would stand out because they were short and And they had unique voices and And he was always that guy would always notice him. Danny Devito Danny Devito Yeah he won an Emmy. I want to get this one Emmy Award for that performance in will and grace. Oh Wow probably should've mentioned I should if I did not know that. That's wow Isn't credible actor too. He's very believable. Runny actor anyway. He's just been making me so happy the last couple of weeks. So his his dinner Dolly Parton Parton that Midler Carol Burnett and him badly want to go to that I don't WanNa go to it and that would be really nervous and I in over my head. I couldn't I I would feel like because I'm the fifth person at this dinner party. I would feel the need to conserve and I. I know I really couldn't so the whole I would try to be thinking of something too high because I would want to eavesdrop on it. It would be. You're right you're right just so socially it'd be intimidating because imaginary the pearls that'd be coming out of all their mouths and I find it odd that he hasn't met tally. Pardon if Dolly Dolly PARTON IS AWARE OF HIM LIKES HIM. He's made he's gone to such lengths to try to meet her. That is weird and especially now with social media. You'd think the two of them would've hooked up on on instagram or something. I know he was also very excited when you told them that. Drew was following him on instinct. Oh my God he was like what is. Yeah well drew. We should mention is Ken. That's how we know maybe why saying that But yeah she said. Drew has a has a real fondness for people like Leslie and and She Yeah Maybe. My favorite part of the whole interview was doesn't was when you asked him. Which golden girl he identifies with you. List them yes. I just goes plant. Yes yeah there's a joke that we he's been asked that question every day for the last thirty years. Yeah there yeah. He was so ready and of course friends with our new room Ruined our friends. Of course I mean. Let's read a letter okay. Great this is from. His name is less Jordan tested wail and so they called Charlie who was producing it who produced L. On my mind go. And you know Charlie Front Out Charlie Charlie from all the boys that rejoice in Philadelphia Charlie Charlie Day. So Max how Charlie. Day At three o'clock in the morning Charleston and Mass Jess He's the right one. And then Charlie tell me later on when I walked in I saw series because the cool kids must gun originally beat three guys older guys who grew up in Brooklyn. And they're they're now the cool kids and I rest Ghetto other housekeeping Alan grier and Martin Mall and Vicky Leslie. That's interesting have you. It was such a different type. Had you done a role like that? I mean when you first heard that it was a New York Jewish tough guy. I said look. I'M GONNA put a different spin on this. I didn't try it off. Okay okay try it all many years. Weather's a wonderful director named Sam. Weisman he went onto graduate mighty ducks and he cast in this part. Is Ralph Short the shortest member? Fdic the issue of the. He's set because now. Listen you carry a certain kind of baggage. It's not Gonna. You could articulate what that exactly means what he meant by that. How would you say to Bush? It up your your. He said that's not gonNA work with this character so I bush up which was hilarious. I can't remember but show that was silent and I said did I pull it off in days for my friends in Kansas. They said No. She walked on the screen. My friends at Gen. Even now you said get a Lotta her. Well you know. I have a friend named Ken. To is very. I mean he makes you seem like John Wayne. He's very flammable and whenever he would try to push it up it we come off. He he would do this. Kinda slow solothurn. Thank the strangest thing I had eight years ago. People our hope is that like an eighty two actor. Well you know what it was very wink. Wink come on. We go out to the gay bars at night. You see every cast director and Tan. You secret juicers. But then during the Dina Agents Collins they listen feet on the ground voice in the lower register. Keep your hands at your saw. Maybe sit on your hands. Didn't work again. Work never worked. Well I want to hear what that what would that sound like Leslie because Your Voice is so unique and identifiable short comes off locker room rid of try to do is just. It's just so science but that's what you would try to do per your agents request because in one thousand nine hundred to imagine there weren't there certainly weren't gave roles in mainstream things. I talked about this with Morocco. The other day they had there were characters of the Nance there nance characters there were Zanies. They call them. But we're those. How would they describe the role that you would be going up for back then? We got many a lot. We got Mama's boy. Yeah like a Momma's boy. He's a huddle slide. He he's a little this and that and I would describe as a gay or vodka is now come on but it was very wake Wang interesting. And and that's when you came to La Right Leslie in nineteen eighty two. You move from Chattanooga I listen. I got a degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from the Drama Department where they sat me down and they said Oh minister Jordan plays before you go to Hollywood learn how to pronounce your degree because I was still saying they. They either and I got on a bus. My mother sewed twelve hundred dollars in trauma underpants. I'm not making this up. I took a bus. The old bus station used to be one block below Hollywood. And Vine it was that a day-long pray and now it's the bus station now. It's McDonald's it was the bus station. It wasn't even it was like Trailblazer Senate. I literally got off. That bus was I've never heard of pronounce. So beautifully daylong pray long we say delong pre OP Leslie. How did she the twelve hundred dollars into your underwear? I'm guessing it wasn't coordinating. I'm making that so an cheap hand it right there so that I would have it. You'll be able to understand eighty two. You needed cash. You have to have passed. We've got T. M. machines really. You don't understand Friday. You went to the bank and you whisper your cash for the weekend sometimes. Write a check to the grocery store. You know if you really needed to drink by right like in the big Lebowski was was your mom. Let's He. Was she nerve it? Was She supportive of you? Go into because that sounds from Chattanooga found a letter not too long ago. I got here on Valentine's Day and I have twin sisters twenty two months younger than Mary. Mother wrote the sweetest ladder. She said if things don't work out you can just know you can always come home to a standing ovation. Oh Wow that's really severe. South supported Now in Tennessee right now. That's right down. My mother's eighty five and I was here for like business and I thought you know what this is Gonna. Sound going to happen here. We're going to have to stay and I'M GONNA stay year while I rented beautiful little Condo here that I'm in. It's about ten minutes from my mother's dog and pony show over there and what sends well. There's just a lot of drama. I don't know there's a lot going on. I can't explain it yesterday. Their seven cats. Oreo got up a my sister said she and she straining to pay us in. No she's not she's drawn up muscle No she's trying to pay. She strain in. Which on a Sunday during the lockdown. Oh God I'm GonNa go there today and find out because it's my credit card. What my sister's real good at. Oh it was no big deal. Just some blood work you know. It's it's not only. Oh sorry Oreo. I don't know if it's worth trying to pay. Actually you know. Yeah so that's nicely. You're able to be close to your. You must be nervous about your your mom eighty five. I'm nervous about my own parents. I am but she is so she such a stay at home. Gal Oh good She does it. Go at never met my mother's the bag you have about seven children. And that's about that. My mother she has such a wonderful ability to entertain her cycles. How well it's really coming in handy now puzzles. She does. Then it's for us and it's very you know all day long. You don't have to worry about her. Well Leslie not knowing you very well but you strike me as somebody who got that from your mom. You seem like you're very good at entertaining yourself and in turn it's entertaining the country that come naturally chewed you. Are you always kind of making up? Little things in your head have always been like dance. Yeah let's in baton twirling. I didn't know about Inter instagram till here. When I was on that show with his wife in fact it was all of her publicity girls and all are casting aside and may post it and go. What post-it which you just said post it and I said I don't know so. They sent me down. They said you're not on instagram. Did now this is not a year ago. I went on instagram. And I got about twenty thousand followers. That's nuts and keep at it. I said No. Twenty thousand and then Meghan Mulally reposted something of mine from Willa Greis. Iona as hit eighty thousand dollars and it was like that till about two weeks ago and I don't know what happened. Yeah what is it you know what happened around the time I started it was Max told me to look you up into to follow you and so I did and I think you had a you had like eight or nine hundred thousand followers and and as soon as I started watching your videos I understood why there was something so obviously so funny but the stories you tell are so compelling and there's something comforting about about it but then a week later I looked and got it was up to three million ever happened like in a week. Three point five right. Yeah so literally how? How does that feel? Does it feel like do feel like pressure now like these things have to be a certain quality at all we've been approached like I learned a new word. How would not know the word monetize monetize? It's more butch where I start calling monetize. I'm doing this for fun. Doing the free the day. The lockdown danced. For those of you listening. Leslie just held up his two fingers engaged the symbol. Well good for you. It's so funny. Also have a lot of a lot of well known people follow you and I'm wondering if you even know a lot of these people like drew. Barrymore follows you. You didn't know that. Oh Yeah I noticed that drew follows you and doors. You and I texted her about you and she said she gave me all these great questions to ask you. Yeah so if you wouldn't mind these are from drew. I have to give her credit because there's such good questions I she says I love that. He's encouraging journaling. Right now this is a wild time. That people can look back on an reflect. Have you always journaled from the time I was seventeen and I am not only journal? I draw pictures. I order stickers. Yes Deger's yeah. I'm a high school. Cheerleader stuck in sixty five year. Old Male Body szeswith back when I was seventeen but I also figured out that it. When.

"About ten years ago my girlfriend at the time had incredible collection of friends. I loved her but I really also loved her friends and one of them was a man by the name of Kent. Kent was a boyish almost. Shahrukh looking man who was very stylish. He was kind of like a Tennessee. Williams heroin and mixed with the Cheshire cat. Yes yes good edition and he talked like this. And I'm not exaggerating and one point. I'd done several movies in a row and I was in need. I was in need of well. The point is that I brag I just had to go to like premieres and stuff and I. It's important to mention that. He was a stylist. Yes we haven't mentioned that you have. I not no friend of the day. All right I left out the key. Sorry yes and I was a need at the time of stylist But I know nothing about fashion. So who better to ask them? Can't he picked up some clothes for me and included in them with this like thing this accessory that I couldn't figure out I said what can he said? O? J. L. it's an has caught and I sit in ask. That is that in fashion. Is that like any said now had yet but it's coming back and so he convinced that that was all it took. I just trusted him implicitly and I wore it and it never came back the Ascott. Ken was wrong. And now there's an era photos of your car so many and there's one of me too. That's right next to me. Maybe trickled off marrying and ask one zone darasing anyway. Thanks can yeah off. He was the best. Here's the best could be a dream. Life could be injury. You're listening to life is short. I'm your host Justin log sweetheart dude And with me as always is currently my Ascott lists brother who has his hands in his pants on my hip. I know how your hands are cold. A little chilly in here. Thanks for sharing though. It's not to say that I'm looking at putting your hands down your pants when you say down your pants they are is heading to the area there on the very misleading on your hips. Yet in your pets just keeping warm against the body sorry It is a kind of rainy cold day. Here it's a hand on the pants kind of day. It's speaking of hand in the pans our guest today. Well we're talking about this. Just lovely you know. People say that word. Use that word Unicorn to describe somebody. Who's very unique? Oh I thought you were going to say lovely. It's lovely to carry. You used that word. Describe someone why I've heard other people. I've seen other lovely he. He's not wrong. He's like a human. He's a Unicorn and he's got such a I remember over. It's already interrupt people over to use the term. You know these days totally. I think it's appropriate. That would apply but I remember once. My girlfriend caught him. I think we've actually talked about this. She caught him In her she had this big closet. This walking closet and she would catch him trying on her gowns and soon dresses and stuff. Oh my God you got me. You caught me. He had so many funny like catchphrases and my favorite one was he would say I'm just saying and he would then go on to say the most like wise it funny Just unique thing you know such a way Why are we talking about well and well another similar type of person similarly lovely and odd funny and unique quirky with all? These words can apply. Is Our guest today. He's an actor but he's so much more than that his name's Leslie Jordan. Leslie is somebody whom I think. We both have been aware of for a long time as an actor. I would say nearly mine. Entire Life. Yes. He's quitters. Yes will starting in the eighties. He he's been on. Tv shows he POPs up on TV shows all the time it. It's you'd be hard pressed to watch to TV viewer and not know who he is. Yes I it's when you see him because he has a very unique look. He's very short as we'll talk about I think he said he's four foot eleven and he just has such a wonderful gentle voice. The southern a very thick southern accent. He's from Tennessee. So he's just one of my favorite performers and now he's one of my favorite people. I've gotten to know my little bit Doing this interview and I was. I was so grateful for that my friend also from the show Max Greenfield Texan me a couple of weeks ago. Now and he said you gotTa Follow Leslie Jordan on Instagram. And I immediately did because I trust Max and a sense of humor and I've been I'm so grateful that I did It brought me so much joy during this quarantine. There's a great Malcolm Gladwin book called the Tipping Point. Basically it's about trends and and it talks about why things become popular sort of exploded into popularity right where it goes from like. It's sort of obscurity to and then there's a a tipping point and there's a waterfall of popularity or CSS and somewhere. Yeah and this Hera Deluge as Allen. Overusing yes lately but this tipping point. I think it's it's accurate to say he happen to our to Leslie Jordan in the last few weeks. It's a perfect example of that. The you went from having a modest following I'd say on Instagram. Few hundred thousand people to just in the last few weeks yeah. Now he has. Millions of INSTAGRAM followers becomes such a trend and to put it in perspective. I I've been doing it for almost a year now and I started with a couple of hundred whatever and I'm up to three hundred thousand which is really exciting. This is not a humble brag. I'm just perspective. Leslie also started a year ago. He started with the same amount one hundred and now keep in mind. I did instagram for the show. And so every week as you know if you follow me up a post somebody that Guests to the show and sometimes they'll reposted in that gives you more followers and stuff but leslie just kind of films himself. It's all just him just talks into the camera and within a year he's up to like three and a half million followers but I would say more specifically it's the last couple of weeks it is. It's a quarantine thing I would say. The quarantine has produced two massive things. Did you see that? No you spill all over. Oh God sorry sorry. That was a good point here again. I would say the corn has produced two two huge things. One the tiger king which we've done about and to Leslie Jordan instagram. The army he's A. He's a phenomenon on instagram. It during the quarantine. He's an instant fina. I almost said they're very different but there are in the diagram of those two. There are a few similarities There are and I'm not just talking about the fact that they're both gay they they are both. There's a certain eccentricity of a southern eccentricity I would say that they both not to alienate our southern listeners. Alienates embrace they're both fascinating characters. I would say obviously that. Leslie is on the other end of the SP- benevolent spectrum. He is such a gentle sweet soul. It if you don't know who he is there who were talking about it. You should probably pause this now and go to his instagram just for some context because it's hard to explain why he so entertaining. You're right so I think we should let the interview speak for itself. Yes we'll give you time now deposit. Yes and also just a little heads up. This interview is done remotely. Because obviously we're on courting and Leslie is in Tennessee Chattanooga Chattanooga. He's near Mom. He's near his mom and we're in Connecticut so near arm. Yeah and we had some technical issues with the connection. Amer a few letters militia. They're like As he's talking a little like that so if you were trying to figure the glitches out for the next interview we do But please bear with us so that is will hopefully will iron this problem out moving forward. Yes but until then. Here is a slightly glitch. She but very entertaining very funny and fascinating Leslie Jordan Sweetheart Too It is no secret on the show that we have tried and love but like shelter but like Seltzer has four delicious flavors which we don't exactly know how to rank but I would probably put mango first strawberries. Really good. They're all good lime lemon lime And it's five percent alcohol. Only one hundred calories. We don't know how they do that. It is the best. I've tried those other ones. Don't WanNA mention them but they have this like sweet. Fake fake said weakness. Yes so now. There is something called by lemonade. And if that's even half as enjoyable as Bud Light Seltzer. I'm going to be in for a real treat. It's a premium light lager. It's made with real lemonade. And it has a refreshingly crisp taste sound so good right. I know it's Nice. Stapled Light Seltzer people. We would love to try the BUD LIGHT LEMONADE. And you are wink wink..

"Now than you know I love afrobeat. Caribbean music southbound island vibes all for it. This song is GonNa make you guys. WanNa dance is GonNa Make You. WanNa wine your hips. It's a total bob. So what like I literally found myself like dancing in my bedroom? Love the song keep it going is pretty similar to. So what keep it going as another dancehall fusion track again? It's GonNa make you WANNA get up on your feet dance and best believe that both of these tracks were added to my island vibes playlist and flawless. Do it well part three this song. All right. I'm GONNA keep us. Pg'S I can. The song is for the strippers the Strip club. He's literally talking about is seeing you out would jewelry and throwing money at you. So it's definitely more of a sexual song Flawless do it while par-three and of course he has summer Walker Join him on the track which I just love I love of love. Both sounds together between us is another amazing track. It's produced by Nineteen ninety-five who's division member and features a sample of us. Sure as Nineteen ninety-seven classic. Nice and slow it. Also flips the chorus from divisions two thousand nineteen track and between. So it's crazy 'cause between us. She samples not just ushers but he samples his own truck from two dozen nineteen instead of in between he changed it to between us on March twentieth. This was dropped as a single which thoughts. There's after the first track from the project that I listened to was between us and between US marks the first collaboration between division and Snow Allegra and I hope more collapsed in the future with these two because again. They're sounds or a magic to you to your ears people and if you don't know who. Snow Allegra is what are you doing? Because she is coming up she's Persian. Rmb singer absolutely love her sound as well amuse in her feelings symbolizes a decidedly different direction for division and possibly the one they needed for the specific moment in time many music listeners have developed an ever shortening attention span in the last decade demanding many artists to constantly present something new or risk fading into the public's collective memory division made it a point to present something completely new for their third studio album and in the process demonstrated their ability to adopt and deliver. Sounds that even fans would expect and they actually did it. They definitely delivered and I try to go with no expectations because again expectations lead to letdowns. And then you're just like never impressed with anything and out of a ten. I would give this album like an eight. I think. The production solid amazing features. I love the variety and sound dancehall fusion. You have more slower ballads so I love the variety within the project. And you can tell. These aren't just quick little singles that he put in together and called it. An album like the album from start to finish is cohesive. There's a theme and I truly appreciate that an artist and you could tell you know. They put a lot of thought in hard work into this and it was worth the three year long. Wait and you guys. That's going to wrap up today's episode here at the GMC entertainment podcast. We talked about Leslie. Jordan's viral instagram videos. We talked about T- is double standards with regards to dating in his household and then for my entertainment pick of the week. Recommendation is divisions latest army album amusing. "Hey guys and welcome back to GSM see entertainment. Podcast send the previous segment. We started talking about Leslie Jordan and the light that he's breaking to all of us through his daily broadcasts and videos which we all love moving on we're gonna be talking about Ti and specifically how ti there's a double standard when it comes to ti in his kids right. He has daughters and sons and he is extremely extremely over protective over his daughters. And not as sons when it comes to the dating world. It's safe to say. Ti's one protective done. Not that it's a bad thing but if you're going to hold a standard for the girls you gotTa do the same for the boys ahead of tonight's brand new. Ti and tiny friends and family. Hustle E. News obtained an exclusive sneak peek at the rappers conversation with his close friend. Monica when Monica reveals that one of her sons started dating. She can't help but express some concerns. She says. You don't gotta give him a little space but like I'm not overbearing so he keeps talking to me. The singer shared. I don't want to feel like Damn. I don't want her around but according to Ti he thinks men need a bit more extra space to figure things out without moms help. Listen it's supposed to get to a point where they can handle on their own. And they don't want you all in their business he shared if it doesn't get to that point. Something's gone terribly wrong but wait. He isn't done yet. Ti later appeared in a confessional interview where he shared more thoughts on his own children. Dating this is what he said to be with you. I only feel the need to protect the girls from heartbreak so for me. It's about making sure that my daughters grow up as happy and unencumbered by outsiders tweaking their emotions as possible he shared. That doesn't mean that I don't want my daughter's today or have experiences. It just means I know they will hold onto those experiences and I don't know how that will translate when they come out of it so a lot of insecurities with Ti. Like I don't know who her him. Or what but I feel like there's some underlying issues there when it comes to his daughters if I'm being truthful K. Tonight's episode airs a few months after. Ti spoke about his controversial comments regarding his daughter Deja Harris so for those who are not aware. I'll give you a refresher. The rapper previously said on the ladies like US podcast that he goes to the gynecologist with his eighteen year. Old Daughter in order to check her hymen. That is just so wrong on so many levels. Can you imagine your eighteen year old self ladies having? Your Dad come with you to check on that. That is just like a complete invasion of privacy and not any of his business so I just can't believe he would do something like that. He later appeared on bread table. Talk to address his remarks. This would add to say my intentions I think have been terribly misconstrued and misconceived. Let me go set the record straight. I never said I was an exam room. That is an aunt up. Some of that is a falsity and never said that it was being present day as an eighteen year old. I never said that. Her mother wasn't present. Her mom was president every time. The controversy is also expected to be addressed later this season on the VH1 show. But still what do you guys think about his controversial comments that he said a few months back regarding him checking her hymen. I mean she said this out loud on a show on live. Tv regarding his eighteen year. Old Daughter. So I don't know what exactly was meant construed what did we not understand but those are the exact words that came out of your mouth Ti. So I don't know and in a new interview. Zoning Poland's has decided to speak publicly publicly for the first time about her sister Deja Harris and their relationship with ti who has confirmed time and time again that he is an overprotective father only to his daughters zone. Nico who is promoting vh wants Ti. Tiny friends and family. Hustle spoke to Hollywood life and had this say about the situation that took place at. Ti where he shamed Deja by talking about her virginity tiny Harris's daughter stated now that I'm a little order. I've gone a little better for me but he is definitely super overprotective. I just the Harris. Which is the younger the youngest of all of them. I just took the highest. Doesn't get it as bad as Dejean me. I always think the highest is going to have the worst because you know. She's the youngest of seven kids. She's a girl and due to this repetitive pattern that we see time and time again with China's daughters. They think she's going to get into the worse so nick also addressed a double standard when it comes to rules for his sons and daughters. She stated since we were all younger. He's always been super protective over the girls and it always seemed like the boys could just do whatever they want. My Mom will always argue like you. Don't care that the boys going dates. You let their girlfriends come over. You know. We meet their girlfriends. Adult Kula took a regular thing. But you know if I'm in a relationship and I bring boyfriend over. The whole family has to talk to him. He has to go outside with POPs and have these hour long conversations. There's always dooney cut his safe zone. Nick also opened up about her dating life. She has been with rapper. Bond who Nada is e for several years. Now she shared. This relationship is my most serious relationship. I actually live with my boyfriend now and stuff like that and both my parents actually seemed to really like my boyfriend but pop still pretty much does the same thing. He still has to take him outside to talk for an hours or whatever but I feel like my boyfriend now is kind of like his match. I feel like he sees a lot of his younger self in my boyfriend's so even though he likes him he's kind of always watching him side zone. Ak- speaking her truth a lot of confidence which I love so do I think. Ti will change his ways. I don't know I feel like there again. This is all opinion. Bright my opinion I think he has a misogynistic mindset. You can't have double standards for your children. You either got a treat your boys the same way as you try your girls or you gotta treat the girls the same way as a boy. So if you're letting you know you're you're the boys bring all these girls over and it's all chill. You got to do the same for the girls I mean. I can't imagine growing up in a household like that to be honest out of my experience. My parents my mom was more protective one like. I was never allowed to spend the night anywhere as far as dating. I didn't really start dating until I got out of high school like in College. I started dating so there wasn't really any issue with that because I generally just have any interest in dating anyone while was in high school and I'm just so glad didn't grow up in a household where there was double standards. Like my mom treated us all fairly and we know just because my brother a boy and my sister and I were girls she liked the Seattle with this was the same for both. So there's always that mutual respect between all of us. I will say this though. I sure I was the one that was breaking the rules and breaking grounds here so she was the most strict on me because I was one pushing the limits. I muscle the Middle Child. So I'm like the black sheep of the family. You know what they say and my brother definitely got it the lenience. They were so lenient on my brother. And I believe it's because I was the one pushing the boundaries than my sister and then by him they're like you know what is fine. Do what you want as long as you go to school. Get good grades. You know you don't get anyone pregnant like we're happy over here so Definitely I think there's some I don't know why. Ti's like this. But I don't think it's right like I said there can't be double standards with their kids. You got to treat your kids all equally. Same rules needed to apply to. Both genders are either going to be super overprotective with their boys. Just came out with the girls. Are you gotta be really cool laid back with your girls? How you are with the boys right lemon on the comedy guys agreed with me or if you agree with. Ti's you know way of doing things and you guys were GonNa into our next break here and when we come back I'll be sharing with the guys my entertainment pick of the week. "leslie jordan" Discussed on The View
"Back so Joe Biden is committed to picking a female Vice President and Senator Elizabeth Warren and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate stacey. Abrams say they'd be up for the GIG now. Sunny how important is it that this choice is very specific for his campaign right now? Do you think it's important for him to say who it is or to continue to check things out. Listen I think it's I think it's very important as a lot of people say you know the VP pick is it is an incentive. It's a thank you and I think it should be a thank you to black women. I think black women are going to have to carry the load in this election like they always do. We are their strongest voting base and half of black women live in states where I think they are going to obstruct the vote. I think there won't be mail in voting. So that means that black women are going to have to risk their lives it during this pandemic devote they're going to have to bring their sons and their brothers and their fathers and risk their lives to vote. And so I think that you know we've dragged this Joe Biden's campaign really out of the grave in many in a sense in South Carolina and we've earned that spot with our loyalty for decades and so in my view. He should pick a black woman. I think that Stacey Abrams of course is a good option although she hasn't held office and so that concerns me I think Kamala Harris is an excellent excellent choice but I think it should go to a black woman with experience. Megan you said some possible choices are probably Out of the running. Yeah I mean. I know the Governor Whitman. A Michigan was on his short list. But I think right. Now there's actually a recall. Count for her to be removed as governor with over one hundred fifty thousand signatures and. I always think you can't win your home state and went over your home state and bring it in an election cycle. Then you're rally not going to be the person that they're going to choose this Horsera- stuck with the Texas always to new bike. It's like playing roulette. It could be anything in any one and I think as the corona virus plays out only one hundred percent sure of is it has to be a serious person and two semi points a pink holding office and having executive experience in elected capacity is going to be something that's very important to in very important to the American public just given that we are seeing what happens when an emergency task force is made up of people like Walker and jared. We see how it's playing out and I think the American public really GonNa be living for experience and people that have gone through crisis other than on than this. Kobe won right. What do think too I well. He's already closed the door on anybody. Who's not female? So we're only dealing with female possibilities here and Sunny said probably it should be a black woman for exactly what she said. I don't want to repeat it. I think she was right about everything she said. But you know what I'm noticing that Stacey Abrams and Elizabeth Warren both have put their cards on the table. And a very assertively have said. I WANNA be your vice president. Joe And I thought that was so refreshing. You know how they always say. Women can't be too aggressive pushy. In this case they have said I want the raise and I totally appreciate that about the two of them and they both of them would make great vice presidents. Either one of them and so we'd Kamla and And I would vote for. Of course I'll vote for any of them. I just want to mention that you know I also appreciate that. Those two women have said. I'm up for the job. I want the job but if you look at what. Kamala Harris has recently done. She just introduced the votes safe. Act of twenty twenty. It's a sweeping bill. That provides states. Five billion dollars for corona virus related voting reforms ahead of the election and it aims to inspire states to take their own action. And so when you look at people that are saying you know I want the job you see someone else. That's actually pushing forth and agenda and I liked that I liked to see that action and I think that speaks volumes. I agree with signing on that I. Actually she might be. She might be gaining more right now even when she came on the show she was saying. This isn't the timer. The moment I mean she's a senator from the second biggest state in the union and I think there's actually difference between Stacey Abrams in Elizabeth. Warren analysts said was just asked by Rachel Maddow. Would you consider being by presence? You just said yes stacey. Abrams is basically like listing off a resume. And saying she's like I and I'm paraphrasing but like reading up on foreign policy for her entire life so do you think there's a different levels of lobbying for I'm really appreciating commas. Tone incinerate now on. It's not that women can't yesterday the lean in and ask what we want. I just think we're in a historical down and I also agree with that. I like what what Senator Harris is doing. Well personally for me. I just some really glad. He's taking his time. I'm glad he's not being rushed by the media or anybody else. And he's not showing his hand nor should he so. I'm thrilled about that. But changing subjects once again all sports is sidelined right now but. "Nick Opperman. And and Megan live in the coal bronze Smiths or Nicole Brown. Simpson's old house. Yes, they do. And you know, they're kind of getting she's so funny. I'm willing grace. They know we talked the other day about that episode tax. It was the funniest episode ever. Yeah. With Leslie Jordan. But yes, she she is. Yeah. Here's the deal. It wasn't the same house for Nicole Brown. Smith liver shoes. Murder was on the same property that they're wants to the house that OJ Simpson had rented for coal before they were married. So she lived on the property prior to when she lived with OJ and before she was married and before she was divorced and then murdered. So it was at least two houses. But Megan, thanks, Nicole is hunting the place. And I believe she tells that too busy Phillips either tonight or last night. Oh, okay. Look at how the headlines are already out there for all the busy Phillips stuff was she's trying. Yeah. I know. Yes. I don't know. I don't think it's I don't think that's a funny story. I don't I have to listen to it. But it seems kind of tacky tell everyone dressed as Dr Seymour Bush gynecologists in the lab coat at a bar in LA or Las Vegas. Seems just what desire that he's still around? Yeah. Well, he lives in Vegas, isn't that?
