"Let me go and get into this real quick. I don't want to spend any time on it because I I honestly don't care about this kind of thing, and I don't think anybody really should. When you achieve high office. Doesn't matter who you are there going to be those who will write a tell all books about you, and when you're a volatile personality like Donald Trump. My goodness, there's going to be lots and lots of people are going to come out and say awful, nasty things about you. And I would imagine that a lot of it has to do with. I want to sell books. And trump cells. I will quote Les Moonves says the former head of CBS who said in 2016 Trump may not end up being good for the country, but he's been great for ratings for CBS didn't matter what he was doing people for whatever reason. Maybe it's because the train wreck factor watching Trump is like watching a train wreck. You can't turn away whatever the reason doesn't matter. You say trump people sell. It's a selling point it people will buy it. So anybody who's ever worked in the White House and the Trump administration in the last four years going to be writing a book, journalist writing books. I don't care who you are. You're everybody's gotta book inside them, I suppose. And let me tell you how it works. Especially when they're clearly is an agenda at work. You're going to get offered a boatload of money from a publisher because the publisher knows once again trump cells. People will buy if Trump is selling. So publisher will come to you and say, You know what we give you a $5 million advance that Here's a guy who's been working a government job makes maybe $10,500 a year. He's got a good pension coming up, but you throw fucking dollars at me. What do you need me to say? That's going to sell the book. And that's what you're going to get. Bob Woodward's book. I don't even know the title of it, but I'm sure you'll see him on 60 minutes this weekend. I think he's done this exclusive bombshell interview, which is really not a bombshell at all. It's actually goes back to something I was talking about. In March, when Trump came out he was talking about Corona virus. I said the man's clearly downplaying it, and the reason he's downplaying is trying not to get people. I don't want people to panic. I know. I said that in March, the guy who's downplaying clearly downplay I don't This is a surprise to anybody. What is he supposed to come out and say the world is on fire? Quick run for the hills. He downplayed it. But the response from the government. In fact, I would say the book means the opposite of what media is telling you. It means Downplayed it to the public so nobody would panic. Meanwhile, ramped up operation warp speed behind the scenes to get a vaccine as quickly as possible. Worked with governors. Governors praising him, including governors now trashing him because it's political, politically expedient to do so. So, you know, Once again, this book from Bob Woodward is much ado about nothing but That doesn't matter that I say that to a mine. What matters. It's on 60 minutes, so it must be true. It must be real. It must be bad. No, it must not be. You've got to remember who Bob Woodward is. What is the guy done since Watergate? Good journalists backed in found out some important things Good. He was there. But he ran out of ideas left. The Washington Post's back when it was run by the Graham family and started writing books in which I think one was called Veil, he said the former head of the CIA Admitted some kind of crime regarding Iran Contra and and the truth of the matter is that I was in a coma. At the time. The guy was dead. In essence, he was dead. And I don't know. He talked to me. I sneaked into his room. I got past all the security and sneaked into his room. So you know, I got to be honest with you. I don't necessarily believe Bob Woodward. If he says good morning. That's just me..

"But one thing, Emily always pays attention to is how television shows can process and reflect on what's happening in the world around us. Emily. You've got an essay in this week's New Yorker about me to in television. You call me to a deluge of plotlines until a vision. Why a deluge. And how does it show itself up the metoo movement was a pivot for me because I feel like one of the things that was happening was that, first of all the metoo movement affected, Hollywood and television industry. So what you started seeing were plots. That were not so much about acts of sexual violence or acts of harassment, which is a whole different subject. But about people considering their own collusion within the larger system. So some of these are very ambitious. Interesting plots, and some of these are rude jokes on comedies. But for while when I was watching TV, there was pretty much not a single show that I could think of especially among comedies soap operas and things like that, that didn't have a plot like this there. There was a very interesting example on the good fight, which is a CBS show. Oh, that had a had a an episode this year, that was called the one about the recent troubles that was kind of hard to miss as a reference to CBS. So what was fascinating? The less moon viz. Yes. The les after les Moonves step down the good fight, which is about a law firm had an episode in which the much regarded leader of the law firm turns out to have committed numerous acts of violent sexual harassment within the company and the whole cast who are sort of our heroes, turn around. And basically, there's a fuselage of NDA's and they're just trying to shut the whole thing down. Colorado was a complicated man people who change history and do good are not all good just firm to lose forty percent of its yet, but we didn't do anything wrong. We didn't cover anything up. But if we pay someone off it becomes our scam. No. We haven't paid all what do you mean? I looked at riddick's contract in two thousand twelve we made a deal to cover all of his sexual harassment laws..
CBS fall schedule: Here's how the network is moving on after 'Big Bang Theory,' Les Moonves
"About the big bang theory. And the wrapping up the show, and he promised to do some research on how much money obscene amounts of money, these actors in Hollywood are making well, and it was kind of interesting to read because they the main stars of the big bang theory were all making a million dollars episode, but they all took a pay cut. So that Melissa row and may Bialik both got a big raises because they were earning far less than that. Now, they both make a half million dollars per episode. The main stars that looks like they're making about nine hundred thousand dollars per episode. All right. So. The modern family did the same thing the Casta modern family, they negotiate as a cast not as individuals. Okay. Which is kind of interesting. So anyway, but as a result so that all that adds up to about two percent of the annual revenue the show the annual revenues about a billion dollars. And that's without streaming rights being sold yet. So all those stars are going to split still round twenty million dollars per year in syndication and don't forget, you know, Jim Parsons, the, you know, the guy who really was kind of the breakout star of the show they had that young Sheldon show now where he is the voice of that. So they're not hurt that way. No, no shows going away. You will see it streaming somewhere. I am sure. In the very near
CBS News announces anchor changes at "CBS This Morning," "CBS Evening News"
"Morning. There is a shakeup underway at CBS news this morning. The network announced major changes to its flagship shows this Gayle king on CBS this morning. We are announcing some major changes today moving forward working to get even better at what we do. Those major changes come amid ratings concerns for CBS this morning and also for the CBS evening news. And also after a series of harassment revelations rocked this network in recent years joining us now with more NPR media correspondent David Folkenflik morning. David. Hey, do to what is happening CBS. And why why is it happening now? So let's first talk about what's happening. You're going to see Nora O'Donnell, leave CBS this morning. It's that's their their morning news show, and she's going to become the anchor of CBS evening news. You know, the newscast once host by Dan rather on kites storage show. She's replacing Jeff glor- who's been there less. Than eighteen months. You're going to see a little bit of rotating chairs happening on the morning show. She is doing that John Dickerson's going to leave the morning show and the coin correspondent for a sixty minutes. And you're going to see the remaining this show built around. Gayle king who's been there who's really a sword in recent years, but particularly even in the last year landing a bunch of news making interviews, including a memorable one with our Kelly's been accused of so many crimes memorable interview to say the least. Yeah, really intense and really brilliantly handled by king, and she'll be joined by Anthony Mason longtime Saturday morning show host. He's been a longtime evening news anchor Fillon at a correspondent for the network. Anthony Mason, we'll also be joined by a twenty dokoupil a correspondent for for the network, and those those figures will be rotating in and around these these major programs, and what about the timing is is there something. Significant that CBS is going through all the shuffling at this moment. What does it tell us will even seeing a lot of coverage in a lot of rumors and speculation about what was going to happen? CBS had won some audience and also gotten a lot of morale boost by pursuing harder news edge for its morning show and for the evening news, and yet ratings had sagged in recent years, Jeff chlorine, some ways was expected to be the solution. He replaced got Pelley after Kelly's ratings after initial boost had had declined and there've been some tension between Pelley, the former anchor and former CBS news president David Rhodes glare was supposed to solve onto this under under roads and had not done. So and there've been a question of what's going to happen to pairing of John Dickerson, quite brilliant. Former moderator of face the nation had not had the same level of success as the morning show. It had under Charlie rose. And so they said something's going to happen. Too risky was named at the beginning of the year to shake things up in the shakeup was hers. So is. Is it just about ratings or how much of this has to do with the the sexual harassment scandals that we've seen this network through? Well, you seen a network. The network rocked by sexual harassment scandal from the top les Moonves, the chairman of CBS the entire parent network Inc. As well as Jeff Fager, the former chairman of CBS news in the longtime executive producer, sixty minutes, which is far and away in some ways, the most important show, certainly money maker for CBS CBS evening news CBS this morning. Have sort of been perennial third rated shows Charlie Rose's departure from CBS this morning in late twenty seven teen really rocked the chemistry and rock the stability of CBS news, but they had hoped to Dickerson could stabilize that. This sentence is the latest domino to fall from that. They want to stabilize the show want to stabilize the network insurance scheme particularly wants to show it's hers, and she's going to find a path forward for CBS. All right. Big changes today at

So so romo's like Romo is the thing that you have at your network that has critical acclaim? It's just Romo Nance. Right. You don't what else does your network? Have. I don't know what that's worth. I really don't wear. Your guy is being lauded as this is the pioneer. This guy's doing it better than anybody is. And he's yours. I think when you spent as much money on the NFL is CBS's spent you just keep TOTO Tony Romo at ten million dollars a year. Right. Like, what's the difference? At that point. You're spending billions of dollars on the rights package. They spent eight million a year of John Madden at one time. It's fascinating to me though. Because nobody's worth it. There is no appreciable difference in viewership. You're just giving Romo ten million dollars because he brings you a claim or popularity but not you're bringing viewers. Well, he's a prize. Right. He's bragging y you can say we paid to keep Tony Romo the guy. Everybody's bragging about well. You just say we have the best analyst in the game right now. And Tony Romo what you can say. But it doesn't mean one single to dance point and he's right, Greg. If I want to watch a game, I'm watching it, regardless of you or it does not bring a viewer not one. I agree. But it's not just without going into a whole philosophical discussion. It isn't just to it. It's just the way that I that I expect myself to behave. So sure I was not offended by that. I'm aware. I don't think is there. One part of what we just played that anybody any reasonably intelligent individual regardless of gender would disagree with. No, yes. Well, okay. What? And I'd like to consider myself to be a reasonable individual. What heard there is Gillette. Making a very blanket statement what I heard is. You guys you man. You are all bull. You guys you sexually harass women. All the to all of you men out there, you need to shave that toxic masculinity. And I disagree. I disagree that all men what I heard there was taking all men and putting them in one basket. And here's the deal are there. Bad guys out there. Yes. Goodness. Ivan countered way too many of them in my life, and in my career that being said I've encountered far more good guys than I have bad. And it seemed as though they that whole commercial was just about how you guys are misbehaving and you need to change. Well, some are and it needs to change, and I get what they're trying to do. But I think that they're taking a huge marketing risk with it. Well, in reaction to what you've said, I understand. Yeah. Gillette is painting with very broad brush. But let's look at the flip side of it. If they're going to do this, and obviously they made a conscious decision to embark on a campaign to basically, tell men in general straight straighten your act up. Sure, you can't you can't segment minute or I guess what? I was thinking of as you were saying that they can't really. Each an ad that says, hey, don't be like Harvey Weinstein. Don't be like les Moonves says you can't do that. You can't do that. I like the message that trying to get out there. I genuinely do. And I think that yes. The young men of today are watching how their fathers react. And that's kind of what the the whole commercial morphs into spent so much time on I think, demonizing Gaza. I think that this is funny that I'm the one here like defending guys in this commercial because. I think the with the vast majority of those that by Gillette razors. Yes. I know they make women's razors. But it's you guys why would you go and potentially alienate the biggest market share of your company. You wanna do something? How about you start charging me for pink razors the same amount? You charge the dude for blue razors because I pay a heck of a lot more than you guys. Do you wanna start with something? How about like equality? That's what I think they missed the boat on this. And I'm not alone. When you look at the views on YouTube. I think it's got like three and a half million views. So we're talking about it. You could see that as a win. All right. Yeah. Nike did the same thing Colin Kaepernick, so many people were talking about it. The Gillette ad challenging men to shave their toss toxic masculinity. I like the overall message of it. I think is a huge branding and marketing gamble for them. "So people are still trying to process the disturbing new lifetime docu series surviving R Kelly which focuses on decades of child sex abuse allegations against singer nephew missed it. Take a look at the trailer or kill us at the top of the church, but he may be in for a fall. He was arrested today in twenty one counts of child pornography. Kelly is accused of videotaping himself having sex with an underage girl. Taking advantage of minors will not be tolerated. God, I can't take another day. I can't do this anymore. Why didn't anyone known this? We all know this no one cared because we were black girls. Sorry. So one question asked in the doc is if all the accusations are true or remotely Chula possibly true. How is it that he's gotten wet with this for so long? Is it what the young lady says is it is no one listening because these are black girls. What do you think probably has something to do with it? Because it reminds me of when kids are missing here, you know, and they only they do stories about white kids, and they don't cover it. When a black kid is missing networks. And also the other thing I thought of I don't have too much say about this, Chris I didn't watch it in. But a lot of these purpose people have known about to cry. I mean, the list is Bill. Cosby les Moonves Harvey Weinstein. Charlie rose, Kevin Spacey. Louis C K Matt Lauer there were rumors about all these people before they actually k it came to the public's attention. So this is another case actually video apparently of something going on. Well, yeah. I mean he was prosecuted for for the child pornography? Video an easier ago, and he was found not convicted of any of the charter of any of the charges. And so I think at that point people thought, well, if he was found not guilty. I'm going to give him a pass on it. And I don't know that people understood that the behavior allegedly continued and the the depth and the breadth of it, I certainly didn't know I know I spent the weekend watching it. And I was not only riveted but disgusted and just so shocked. I mean, I went through all my devices, and I deleted every single art Kelly song that I had from every single device. And then I thought well, I've got a law degree, I've I prosecuted sex crimes. And then I spent the next couple of hours reaching out to law friends, and the legal community and said, what can we do because there are still girls that are with him in his studio and their parents were in the documentary saying I haven't spoken to my daughter for years, and I think they're being abused. And I thought how is? This happening in today's day and age, but to your point joy, you're right. I mean when when black women are involved, we know that ninety percent of those cases are never covered by the media and black lives. Unfortunately, just are aren't valued in the same way in our country that that white lie. Well, that would make the reason we have black lives matter. Yeah. The words themselves speaks to that point one of the way, I had to say alleged somebody told me alleged this is all alleged late because his from the documentary that we're talking about. But if all this is true, I think I speak for everyone at the table. That's watched it. It is sickening. If you haven't seen it I would. But what stood out to me was? I think part of what you guys are saying is how much he was an and continues to be protected and how no one was looking out for these young girls in some cases as young as fourteen Toronto Burke was throughout this documentary. And if you don't know who that woman is you should because she was the original founder metoo movement eleven years ago, and she. Did it for underprivileged women of color affected by sexual abuse? And I say this as a white woman, I can relate to women..

You know, if you saw les Moonves, let's say for the sake of discussion, this would never happen. But let's just say for the sake of discussion, you go to a dinner party and at the dinner party in walks. Julie Chen and les Moonves. I would think because of the nature of the discussions we've had on the station, and then the show about les Moonves says he probably wouldn't rush over and give them a big fat hug. Definitely you probably would give him a stink. Maybe you would be so moved to just leave right or just remove yourself to another room where you could hear very well. So that you can take copious notes and report back. Yes. I mean for the sake of the show, I would hope you leave. But I'm saying human being you. The room. But when you're mega rich, you're on a mega yacht, and you're in Saint BART's, you're gonna have a carefree Gail time. And nobody's going to call you on your stuff. A number of women is not going to impede your relax -ation celebration for New Year's Eve because these three guys Brett Ratner they'll Hollywood filmmakers Silicon Valley investor Sherman Peshavar and then CBS chief les Moonves were all on Geffen's yacht. And I just I like I thinking about this. I'm like, what was it? What were those conversations? Like, hey, what's up you guys? Welcome to my okay. Spent a great year. I hope you're all celebrating. We're really excited for twenty nine. I just feel like millions of what we've learned this series millionaire Trump's morals, so like your money will Trump your morals all the time. That's exactly the story if you have enough money, and you if you are high enough in the social elite, I mean, really if you're friends with David Geffen, you're not concerned about the sexual assault allegations. It's not to say that these people can't live their lives without being socially shunned all twenty four seven. And all of that stuff, yet Taryn, I will also add that I think that big brother three on building up the success of a big brother to seems to have more of a budget the play with. I mean, we had a lot of fun in the people at the two-block mentally talking about the competitions which were throwing CDs into a pool and racing remote control cars and contest. That were just standing in the back yard with a legal pad of writing answers down. It seems like the one time they really spend some money in big brother two was when the survivors showed up that they had the competition which was supposed to be like. Put snow in the backyard here. Even from the first challenge that we're going to see I think that the production value in the production quality of big brother three is going to be up from big river to. Yeah. I think at this point the show has proven its concept. Right. We're like big brother one was a bit of a failure. They tried their best to sort of revamp it and try this new experiment with big brother to where it's much more of a game. And it was very successful. And so I think they had a lot more confidence coming into this season with the show. And so they probably felt a little more comfortable putting putting a little more money into it making it just, you know. Standout still a little bit more Taryn from the Wikipedia page. There is a quote here with les Moonves. He was happy after a big brother to after a boring first season. And they were talking about how they were going to make some changes to the series..

Former CBS CEO Les Moonves Denied $120 Million Severance Package
"This message comes from NPR sponsor Comcast. Comcast values your time. That's why you can schedule to our appointment windows, including nights and weekends that way. You can spend more time doing what you love. Comcast working to make things. Simple, easy, and awesome CBS is accusing les Moonves says of a quote willful failure to cooperate with an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct. That failure atop the alleged misconduct. Is why CBS is denying him a severance payment of one hundred twenty million dollars? So what if the downfall of a legendary executive mean for his company NPR TV critic, Eric Dagens has covered moon vez and CBS for years. He's here either. Eric, hi, according to CBS, at least, and we should note. Moonves denies wrongdoing broadly. What what what is CBS say moon vested? Well, let's go back move. As was forced to step down back in September. At the New Yorker magazine published allegations from several women. Claiming he had sexually harassed or salted them. So the CBS board wound up hiring to law firms to look in the allegations against moon vase, also harassment or misconduct allegations that CBS news and CBS is wider corporate culture. Okay. So we mentioned an alleged willful failure to cooperate was Moonves supposed to cooperate with those law firms. Yes, they expected him to tell the truth when they asked him questions about his past conduct. Now, we haven't seen the reports that these law firms have created, but the New York Times reported on early drafts of the reports which said that investigators have evidence move as had lied to them and had tried to destroy text showing that he attempted to find acting work for one woman who'd made accusations against him in the board statement, they accused move as a breaching his contract and quote, willful material misfeasance now I had to look that word up, but it means performing an official duty in an improper or unlawful manner move as a turn. He has said in a statement that the conclusions are baseless that his client cooperated fully and that he vehemently denies assaulting. Although possession is nine tenths of the law. CBS has the one hundred twenty million dollars. They say they're keeping the one hundred twenty million dollars unless there's some other preceding we don't know about coming. But that leaves CBS trying to move on from losing its top executive in this in this particular way, how deep does the problem run at CBS. Well, you know, this was a company wants known as the Tiffany network. It bills itself as the most watched broadcast network in America, they have all these popular programs. But they also have this history of harassment allegations CBS this morning anchor Charlie rose was fired last year. After a Washington Post story revealed multiple allegations of sexual harassment. Jeff Fager, the executive producer of the top news magazine. Sixty minutes was let go in September. He had sent a threatening text to a CBS reporter who was working on a story about harassment allegations at CBS news. The New York Times reported last week on a nine. A nine point five million dollar settlement with actress Elisha deuce coupe who claim the she was harassed while she was working on the CBS drama bull. So there's a lot. And and as a critic, I pointed out CBS's lack of new show starring women for years. The question now is you know, is CBS really going to look harder at its history. Now or just hope everybody moves on after this crisis pass, you're putting on an interesting connection or parallel. We don't know how closely their connected, but we have allegations of private misconduct, and your noting something wrong with the public faces. CBS the opportunities given to women the representation of women CBS doing anything about these kinds of problems. Well, the board says it's created this new position called chief people officer to revamp its human resources departments. They say their diversity and inclusion efforts have been an adequate and they're going to beef them up. They're giving twenty million dollars to several different groups that are working to combat workplace harassment. But the CBS board is her from employees who said that Powell stars. And. Executives were not held accountable at the company and the question is whether CBS is going to hold them accountable now without big stories in the media to pressure them, Eric thanks so much for sheet. It thank you. That's NPR critic Eric decades.

But if the allegations are true CBS could take that money away or joined now by NPR media. Correspondent David Folkenflik who's been covering this? Thanks for being here. David morning ritual. So destroying evidence misleading. Investigators those are big claims. What more do we know? Well, it's not good CBS board hired two major law firms. To look at this this draft report of teen by the New York Times, what they say that he, you know. This big media magnate, the last of the great Hollywood chieftains in some ways, you know, behaved like somebody screaming to protect themselves from indictment that he lied to the investigators for the law firms that he deleted taxonomy of techniques change with the manager of woman over the course of potato last year, a who had alleged that moon visited tried to essentially course, a sexual act from her a two decades ago when she was inspiring actress, and you know, to give you some sense of the scope that we're talking about not only did those things, but in small way, he was asked to hand over digital devices that the investigators could look at instead of handing over his own ipad. He handed over that of his son. So there are now new allegations against last move as right? What can you tell us about? What has recently come out? Right. Well, I we should say they they reached a eleven of the seventeen women who have made allegations that he sexually harassed them or worse. And they say they found them credible that they weren't able to prove it, but they found out some other things they allege in this draft report that at least four times. Or he secured forgive me, this a CD folks, but oral sex from a CBS employees that is his subordinates in ways that they called a transactional. And this is a quote, they say they're circumstance that sound transactional. Improper the extent. There was no hint of any relationship romance arrest property, especially given what we know about his history of more or less forced oral sex with women with whom he has had no ongoing relationship, and I want to insert here that his lawyer maintains that all of the sexual contact. He has had with CBS employees of wise has been consensual. But Furthermore, the investigators said there's an employee suspected on call a subordinate. Was essentially there so that he could have oral sex on demand. And this is again, something where his lawyer says all sexual contact was consensual. He's not denying that sexual contact Kurd. In addition aboard member of Arnold copen was told before joining the board that by woman who said that choose therapist who said that Moonves has had sexually assaulted her. And he didn't inform the rest of the board. But when we invest didn't decide to resign. He didn't tell board members or do anything else about it. Wow. What has health as mean for moon visas future? I mean, just in the short term is it gonna keep severance packet. It seems very unlikely that the board would be able to to grant him those one hundred twenty million dollars as part of his severance. But it's also reflective of a culture where there was seemed to be no accountability were governance itself seems to fail at CBS not just on the part of invests. And this article describes this frantic effort that he engaged in to cover up an alleged sexual assault than and again this. These all seem to have been some years ago at some point he seems to have gotten a grip and stopped this pattern of allegedly assaulting women serially, but this one particular case a manager knew about it this kind of. I know someone who knows him who referred to him as a sort of a Broadway, Danny rose character. And this manager took advantage of this knowledge and pressured les Moonves who frantically tried to cover up what he knew would be a completely career ending story. If it were to be exposed, right? And it was a series of attempted payoffs move as was attempting to foist this woman onto a CBS show and get her paid. So her manager could get paid. So the manager would tell this actress to not come forward against les Moonves, and it just descended into this series of text messages back and forth and meetings at delis and a really desperate attempt by one of the most powerful men in Hollywood to keep this a secret. Yeah. And this is what ultimately the board finally hit a point where they could not deal with it. He had such support on his board. And you know, this is a chronic problem. I think in this industry and others the boards. Just rub. Or stamp a powerful executive, and that's gone on for a long time. But at this point if despite the deep support he had on the board one of the board members in particular was like I can't deal with it anymore, and it became a career ender, and it's striking that they had already done this internal investigation with which shows you the value of internal investigations which exonerated him. And basically, and you know, these internal investigations I think we should say are just kind of joke. The thing that ended up being keys when they looked into this later, they realized that what he had done was used his position at CBS to cover up an alleged abuse claim from an actress and once that was established he was gone now. The question is how much of this severance payment that he is allegedly negotiating right now, which could be as much as one hundred twenty million dollars. How much if anything is he gonna get and I will speculate that that number will be zero because I think it is clear that the story kills any chance. That they will pay him a diamond I think they said at one point they they don't have to disclose the outcome. But I feel that somehow that might leak this call that hunch. Yeah. And honestly the question here is whether they are letting him go four 'cause and I think attempting to the investigation of your conduct when you are the CEO thinking thank probably caused for terminates s we see this the same way.
