"Will the agency enforce that Bloomberg's Alexis leonis says it won't be so easy Start by telling us what's the IRS up to with gig workers Sure so for a while now the IRS and lawmakers have been wanting to figure out a way to kind of tap into the gig economy They know that it's happening people have side hustles people are becoming more and more self employed They're working outside of the traditional workplace So because of that the IRS has been trying to figure out how they can kind of get a piece of that The way that they settled what lawmakers decided and this was tucked into one of the COVID relief bills from last year The way they decided to go after it is to lower the reporting requirement threshold It used to be if you had some kind of side business only if you made at least $20,000 and had at least 200 or more commercial transactions than the IRS would basically send you a special tax form known as a ten 99 and in turn they would have to report the Venmo or whichever platform the way you're being paid would have to report to the IRS and say hey this person made over this amount and basically when there's reporting going on there's more of a paper trail It's less likely that people are going to kind of shirk their tax obligations Will that threshold was lowered from 20,000 down to 600 which is a huge jump Huge And the IRS is getting Venmo and the other apps sort of working for them on this So basically the IRS has said well the lawmakers in the COVID relief bill the law was written in kind of a vague way and surprise Yes sometimes we see this especially with provisions that are tucked in that have nothing to do with what you think the actual name of the legislation entails So it was kind of tucked in the law was really vague So it seems to say Venmo PayPal cash app you know you're all responsible for figuring out who's doing what and telling us which transactions or commercial and which are personal The legislation did say or the guidance that came out after the legislation did say a personal reimbursement If we go out to dinner and you reimburse me for it that's exempt or if it's a charitable contribution or a gift those things are exempt but beyond that didn't really specify So there are a lot of questions So if I have Venmo and I'm doing something under my personal account if it is in fact more than $600 is that something that was going to report to the IRS or not And basically it's each payment provider is kind of coming up with its own rules So as a user you really have to go to the Venmo or PayPal or whatever you're using their website to see their FAQs and to find out exactly who and what they're going to be reporting What about sales on sites like eBay or poshmark Write all of those things If you're making more than $600 that is supposed to be that's income and that's supposed to be reported to the IRS and you owe taxes on that And again it's not there was some confusion in the beginning that this was a tax on people who were making money through some of these side venues It's not a tax It's a reporting requirement and the thought is if there's more reporting going on then you're less likely to not report the income There's been a backlash about audits I know someone who makes not very much money and was audited and couldn't believe it Why are they auditing me Right you have this huge group of people who represent so many different interests whether I'm renting my house out on Airbnb or I'm selling something on Etsy I'm making jewelry on Etsy and selling it or if I'm a hairstylist and you know I'm just trying to have people pay me through Venmo and do something kind of quote unquote on the side There is this thought that the IRS lawmakers are kind of going after the quote unquote little guys whereas millionaires and billionaires we've seen the audit rates have plummeted My argument against that is without getting too political you know we don't want to have a tax system I think where nobody's complying So if we have a problem and we think millionaires or billionaires aren't paying their fair share really we have to change the tax laws and make sure that the tax laws are going after their income more as opposed to just kind of turning the other way when someone who makes less money or is doing something on the side isn't reporting it I wonder if this is going to cut down on the use of Venmo That's a good question and something that I asked a bunch of people about as well It seems like the convenience of Venmo and other cashless apps is just too great that yes maybe at the margin we will see some providers who will say you know what please just give me cash But in this day and age with people doing things remote the pain of having to go to the ATM it's just so much easier for people to use Venmo that I think it's here to stay Thanks Alexis That's Alexis leones columnist for Bloomberg opinion We'll stick with pay laws next but on a local level New York City's new salary transparency law was put into effect with the hope of closing the pay gap between men and women Bloomberg Sarah Greene Carmichael says the law could have another positive effect helping young workers make informed decisions about their careers Tell us about New York's salary transparency law So New York City has passed a law which will take effect later this spring that is going to require employers to disclose a salary range for new hires So with the job posting they will have to disclose something in the ballpark of what that job will pay Will that really be a revelation when it's a ballpark figure We'll see what the ranges are but I think a lot of people do not have very good information about what different jobs pay I think one of the things that will be interesting to see is how this law compares with other laws around the country because there are other rules that companies have to disclose what different jobs pay to job candidates or to current employees but this one is definitely pushing employers to be more public by having it as part of the job posting And it's also a city where salaries tend to be higher than in the rest of the country because of the cost of living So it's going to be really interesting to see how all of this plays out in May when the law takes effect So you think this is going to help young people who are either deciding what to major and in college or what field to go into after college Yes So I think it's important to say that the target of the law specifically is the gender pay gap between men and women And additional pay gaps at surface between white and non white employees However I think sort of one group that will benefit as well wasn't the target group are a younger workers precisely because it is so hard especially when you are younger and less experienced and you have a smaller network to know.

"Or so. I've heard from some bishops. I've seen some of them with their own tweets and comments that were very supportive of archbishop porta leoni and I think that What he's pointing to is something. That is very helpful to have us look at our own history in our country and say whoa what happened. In another era with another issue and how it was dealt with very strongly And that in fact the church did bring about an end to segregation in our catholic schools and in back then society because the catholic church took a very strong stand on that. And i think the the fact that We have these catholic politicians who are basically ignoring church. Teaching is very scandalous because scandal in the sense that it leads to other people to think. Maybe this really isn't so serious. And i take this opposition and there are no ramifications to it then people are basically saying well. Maybe abortion really. Isn't that serious. So i think we've reached a point in the conversation were We see archbishop. Quarter leoni and other bishops. That are making a stronger statements and i think are pushing this question and are definitely saying that it is not a consistent. It's not possible to say that you are devout catholic and at the same time to Support abortion rights At the last. Uscc be meeting Bishop there was a lot of controversy over putting together. A document a draft document on eucharistic coherence in other words. On who is worthy to receive communion. I wanna play something referenced earlier. This is carton cardinal. Wilton gregory talking about joe biden's comment the other day watching. The catholic church teaches and has talk that life human life begins at conception a so. The president is not demonstrating catholic teaching. Now bishop property. Is it enough to say. He's not demonstrating catholic teaching. When you're talking about the most influential catholic in the world don't bishops have a responsibility to act out of mercy to the individual and all those catholics who are looking to the president. Yes i think we do have to put action behind our words. It's it's very helpful to say that president biden is not demonstrating a catholic teaching with regard to when human life begins but i think people expect their bishops also to take action i think we saw how bishops were very severely and rightfully criticized for not properly handling allegations of sexual abuse of minors so In naturally and of course appropriately there is outrage at the perpetrators of such abuse but there was also a great deal of outrage bishops. Who did not handle these cases properly and it could have been handled by a proper application of panama. I think we have an analogous situation here where you have people flaunting catholic law and personally as the bishop. I feel that. I have a duty in conscience to to uphold cannonball and if i did not Exercise requirements of canon nine. Fifteen with Saying that someone who obstinately persists manifest manifest since like supporting abortion should not be admitted community. I would feel that. I was being on negligence In my work if not even complicit in the wrongdoing now archbishop quarterly calls abortion the most pressing human rights challenge of our time. Will there be a need or do you think there's a need for a unified response to these catholic politicians and others who openly challenge core teachings. I mean they aren't aren't they. Usurping the bishop's authority here aren't they becoming the teachers of the faith. In many ways they are sort of setting them up. As a parallel magisterial teaching authority of of the church and very clear that the bishops are the successors of the apostles and the authentic magisterial. Authentic teaching authority are wrestling with the bishops. And so i think we do have a responsibility to to make that clear and not only in our statements but follow up with appropriate Canonical sanctions where where that is warranted. Nouri good bishop thomas Thank you for being here for your clarity and thank you for joining us. You're welcome. The vatican has released prepatory documents for the twenty twenty. Three synod on synod -ality. What do the documents indicate about the direction of this senate and pope. Francis is comments to a spanish. Interviewer are raising eyebrows with me. To discuss is associate editor of the spectator. Uk and host of the holy smokes podcast damian thompson. Who joins me from london damian. Thank you for joining us. I want to begin with this. Synod prepatory document and the handbook released by the vatican this week. It is should be reviewed by all catholic dioceses. The document begins by quoting pope. Francis stating it is precisely this path of senate -ality which got expects of the church third millennium this journey which follows in the wake of the church's renewal proposed by the second. Vatican council is both a gift and a task. Now damian the document then goes on to say the holy spirit will guide the senate and the participants should be quote remaining open to the surprises. That the spirit will certainly prepare for us along the way. What are your take all of this to me. And why do we need a synod on sin analogy. It's like having a meeting on meetings and then there's going to be a sinner almost signaled on -ality and so all you don't need this tool. I cut my teeth as a reporter covering the church of england as it went down the signal path and ulan absolute pastor signals. Were talking shop away. Entrenching the power of bureaucrats and bureaucrat. Bishops and their way of dismantling historic teachings as we saw as the treasury and went down to the inaugural path. This is a complete waste of time and money from a church has urgent priorities. Yeah we're seeing it in in a quick motion in who've already embraced this path and it's a disaster. The pope's already correcting them during this phase. Each bishop is asked to undertake a consultation process with the local church. And then this will go on through april of twenty twenty two. The document handbook and questionnaire damian to be reviewed by dioceses as well as superior generals international movements catholic universities and others. The prepatory handbook states in order to participate fully in the act of discerning. It's important for the baptized to hear voices of other people in the local context including people who have left the practice of the faith. People of other faith traditions people no religious belief et cetera. For this reason while all baptized specifically called to take part in the sonata process. No one no matter. Their religious affiliation should be excluded from sharing their perspective and experiences damian. How will.

"Lilies have talked about five k races anymore. You can talk about five k. Buyin dfs tournaments like an alpha. I loved the season today. I'm joined by of course two of the most successful. dfs players in the history of the game drew. Meyer mike leoni dink. Has it going crazy. Man i'm excited to hear about these five gay bi. I've had enough of the five k races all the and it's like fitness challenges. Get out of here. It's time it's time to lose lose on the fittest progress. You've made improved that bankroll. Yes exactly leoni was firing pretty hard the thunderdome last year that fifty three hundred which is the real five k. Not this nonsense of running. Hey tony has gone. twenty one. twenty nine baby. I hit my five k. Race time goal. So you guys can shake your heads. But i was i was pretty pumped about it. "Let's move to adjusting rules for slates. And i think i think by this. Think you mean different types of slates not slate sizes. Leoni specialty is the smaller field stuff. And obviously most of that is being handbill not optimize their bill but ding wanting talk about what you mean here by adjusting rules for actual slates. Yes very simple if we are talking about sleet sizes that one night transfer really quickly because a four games lately when we get into the playoffs or is different from a thirteen game. Sleep in terms of the rules that you should be considering the approaches. You should be taking also similar in the sense that the types of lineups that you should be making four hundred thousand person. Entry contest is different from the text. Line of she should be building for one hundred person contest. And you might go ahead end. hand-build those lions. But some people what they'll do is they'll play twenty hundred person contests. They might want twenty different. They might be using for those will. You would want different rules in different settings because you're not shooting for as high as ceiling in terms of the number of points that are necessary to win those contests just generally in this all goes into the idea of you wanna going with a plan. What type of field in my playing. What type of concept playing. How big is this late blank. How do we need to adapt those rules for those situations because when you're playing a contest with hundred thousand plus injuries you need to be almost perfect. So you want to do things like you know. Have correlation but limit the amount of relation that you have because you don't want to go all in one situation on a thirteen game manslaughter. One hundred thousand four centuries contest. Meanwhile if you're on a four game slate with forty entries in a contest you can go in one game of the war. Because it's more likely that that one game while they outperformed the three than it is one game while they outperforming another wells and so those are the types of things that you want to think through azure using optimize to your vantage is understanding the scope of what game playing in. What is the situation in the biggest one that i see most often is very simply unlike the opening night monday night football rate had two games or whatever people will run lineups where they don't allow opponent players versus their defense because they're used to doing that on thirteen game slates because they view it as like inefficient. I don't wanna running back against the fans events that i'm playing because they're negatively related but on a two games late. You're naturally restricting lineups. That actually might be winners because weirder things can happen a smaller sample size that you're dealing with a negative correlation isn't as big of a deal so it's these things if you're not adjusting conceptually how you're approaching us yacht miser for the slate you're playing or for the contest is that you're playing your naturally doing yourself a disadvantage now. I want to bring it back to projections. And i think this is the biggest thing that people have misconceptions about. They don't realize how much goes into creating a good projection. And then if you're using a poor projection if you're using bad projections in your optimize their i mean my god. You're just torching absolute torching money. Now there's different things that we're gonna talk about next so we're talking about floor and ceiling and stuff like that how you can use that to your advantage leoni. How do you think about projections when running. A one fifty set was wetting his way different than thinking about projections. When you're making a cache line yeah. I mean there's two sides to it. The first side already talked about a little bit is you can't just hit print you know just hit run and expect to print money because the there's more to the projections just debase projection. There's a correlation between opponents. There's the roster ship of the different players on your team in but the the flip side to it when drew is talking about micromanaging. You also when you have good projections. You're at an advantage over your opponents because you're exposures to players are on the correct side. You know you just get into correct leverage times hundreds of players that you might be rostering for the week and they might be little things but having fourteen percent instead of ten percent of a guy because the projection is a little bit better than the projection. The field is using. That's a big deal over the course of a season you know. You're just racking up these little tiny you'll plus e the edges by having good projections and you want to trust them tunics. That you don't want to overly micromanage and just say like oh. I don't really like that guy. Even though he projects flogged you find yourself doing that too much. You either the projections you're using. Aren't that good or for using our projections there. Because i've back tested on. We put so much work into. I know they are. You're probably assuming too much control and going too far other have hole in your colleague jerusalem with the different levers. You call some that. Don't help you might be pulling one. That doesn't help there. When you're you're bypassing what's supposed to be is for you which is having a better idea of how players are going to perform yet dink. How do you think about projections based projections of median projections. When you're doing a one fifty set. But one of the first things that i think about. This is something that mike has talked about in depth throughout his career but there's different levels of fragility to projections that. Not everybody understands. Thanks through intellectually in something that we try to add a lot of actual value to the content that we create on shows our goals that there's certain situations that each and every week they have kind of a tighter range comes because we kind of know what the teams are going to do on. It's easier to understand basketball. Because basketball you see the for julia productions like religiously but some rotations are really clear in basketball. You know exactly like who's gonna play..

"Not comp but like who would you take between those two like. It's an interesting at the head for me jay. moore's like a decade younger. Yeah obviously for me. Dj more come on so that well that's kind of what our rankings are reflecting. But it's once in a better offense. You know much more efficient quarterback in julio jones with really only two passing options but another guys like a youngest sunday player who despite some of the drawbacks in the offenses he's played in has racked up pretty absurd seasons relative to his age. If you look at it historically so those are kind of decisions you end up facing an. I generally side with the younger player. But it's not like it's not a slam down share in here. I do have Tyler lockett amari cooper ahead of julio jones as you mentioned adam earlier but i've been considering moving just moving. Julio down because i don't want you know all the etr subscribers that are using the rankings to get him like an every single drafts. Yeah which is kind of where he's position right now. So i think that Tonight i'm going to move him down. Yep by the way leoni while you were talking about not really having a taken. percentage of target's shares half. The audience fell asleep. So so just be aware of that for the spreadsheet virgins out there a couple other guys i that i am targeting. Kind of at the back end of this range jerry. Judy odell beckham tyler boyd. I think are all strong ivan. Shying away a little bit from michael galp. We'll get to that stuff in a minute. I wanna go back to the question of is wide receiver deep. Because i know you guys both touched on this. I think there's like forty or so wider. Sears that are pretty and that sounds like a lot but in some formats. I mean my god. Those forty or forty five wide receivers are gone before we get to pick eighty and like i said if using our rankings in the middle rounds were just pounding wide receiver. These guys are gone by like pick eighty pick eighty five so if you're a thin at wide receiver heading to around nine and ten and you're in a wide receiver heavy room. I mean you're in trouble. You start to get into guys. I'm okay with. I like i like michael. I like rondell more. you know. Maybe you get away with russell gauge or something. But if you're thin going around nine ten eleven a wide receiver. I think you're in trouble. So i guess my my point here is that wide receiver is not as deep as people think it is because so many. Come off the board. So fast evan. What do you think about that take. It's really not as deep as people. Think as i completely agree and i think we only use the interesting terms. Describe the waterfall of that. There is like a a drop off to just guys that are usable. You know that guys you you wanna be starting every single week you wanna be now every single week two guys that are just of usable and are nice like back into the wide receiver six receiver seven and my receiver eight wide receiver. Five in As you're building a wide receiver group in best ball. Or maybe guys that you want to have on the bench but not guys that you wanna be trotting out every week. There's a lot of those guys You know when the win the waterfalls Starts to fall off. Go ahead and leoni but i just want to suggest quickly. That people listened to the podcast. I did about season-long ver- abc's long managed verse best ball because there's a huge difference here in wide receiver. We actually have to pick who have to start at wider seaver each week in a home league. Best ball we're not. I think that makes a huge difference with what you can get late but go ahead on if wide receivers actually deeply well and because we have to pick who were starting if we're not comfortable with the wide receiver exit. We built early if we haven't drafted a good chunk of wide receivers Comfortable starting out of the gate. We might draft more conservatively than we hit these dumber digit rounds because we need your russell gauge to fill the points that he's projected for or some of these or marvin jones. Yo the points he's projected for and those guys are fine like their project. They're probably gonna score pretty well. But i want to be in a position where i'm so comfortable wide receiver. I'm taking mccoll hartmut on taking rondell or because i don't be those guys to start from week one for me. I can take a chance at hitting huge upside and it's a lot harder to do that. When you're you've put yourself in a position where these guys you're drafting are starters and again if you're the league start for wide receivers. I mean that means you probably needed to have auto drafted like five or so by the time you hit this tenth round or so where these guys start to go up okay. Let talk some sleepers. Okay and i'm like leoni said if you are doing it. What we think is right and have a lot of really good options already. You can swing for the fences at wide receiver. I'll give you guys three that. I like and i know i'm probably taking some that you guys like but the three quote unquote sleepers. That i like i think. The market has overreacted to carson. Wentz his injury when it comes to michael pittman. Michael pittman is far away. The best wide receiver athlete on this colts team tie tie. T y hilton is dusted exact. Pascal is like a fourth wide receiver. At baz pairs. Campbell has barely played in the last two years and is a slot guy the bible narrative between michael pin and carson wentz. It's absolutely through the roof. So that's one of my favorite ones. I think his. Adp is dipped into the sleeper range. Now rondo more evan. I talked about it. We only talked about wanting to go into much further here. Even if rondo more doesn't start in three wide receiver sets to open the season. I think the coaches will find that their best three wide receiver formation is a mix of christian kirk agreed on the outside opposite deandre hopkins and rondo more in the slot than the last sleeper. That i'll say that. I like is terrorists marshall i keep saying his name wrong. That's why i concentrated there but terrorist marshalls six foot two big sly role. And i don't know if you can have a shower narrative between a coach and a college player. But i i kinda think you can and joe brady picks tears marshall come in and play the big slot role between dj. More and robbie. As i've said many times. I think sam darnold will play much much much better away from adam gays and with the right supporting cast terrace..

Quarterback show So check that out looking at every level of the quarterback field this year. But now when you talk about Maybe the most important position all a fantasy and the most controversial. I mean my god. If you guys are on fantasy twitter they're running back. Position has turned into a full blown civil war in the fantasy community. We will touch on that as well on. Boys with the running back position. There has been so much talk actually really sick of it. There's been so much talk about what the right strategy is at the running back position in fantasy. But it's actually going mainstream at this point like it used to just be fantasy virgins. Who argue about this running back stuff now even like dudes to my home leaguer like oh man. Let's talk about zero rb thing or or the dead zone and stuff like that. I mean it's got completely completely out of control leone without going too far into the weeds with all this fantasy virgin nonsense. Can we talk about a macro strategy for you at the running back position specific to this year not always specific to this year. I give a quick always spiel. Well here's why there is like the runningback award running back any league. Running back season does more for your fantasy team's success than anything else in the best way did any running back season is to draft running back early. The flip side to that is if you don't give that elite running back season it's know quietly hurts your fantasy team in a lot of ways because you're not as strong receiver. You're not as strong in the flax. It's quietly replaceable. Or it's just an outright bus due to injury rates and the fact that the physician so volume dependent so that's why you have these conflicting viewpoints because each side so to speak those habits a legitimate reason for why do don't draft running backs early for me. I'm generally a pretty wide receiver. Heavy drafter early every draft is different..

What if i just do a digital training certification and i said gray so we are working on the exam questions and all that and then it started off that he was just gonna do the certification candidate. But i said hey if it's digital might as well be worldwide so that became that and then basically what we decided was that you know. I'm a nerd. I'm just a science nerd. I don't like the commercial end of anything And so i don't do well with digital or tack. And i don't do well with video making video editing and he does very well with that. "If you think about any venture firm purge ep if you divide total undermanaged by by by number of gp's yeah probably on average five. Has there ever been that much capital put together at that pace under one. Gp no. i don't think so. I'm trying to think maybe would be actually the example of somebody who's much to work how many how many. Gps does the vision fund. Have i don't know about a lot a lot. It doesn't i would guess a dozen. I guess something knows. Respond probably hits that They probably have six partners out of in time. Yeah five or six and there are a lot of capital. Sr they have a billion two billion dollars six probably one hundred fifty per front per person they raise a fund. You find every twenty four months. Thirty six months hanger net okay. So let's say two hundred million per partner you do five funds a decade. That's a billion dollars to play important. I think that's possible. Actually two and a half billion but you know whatever i think i could sustain it and enjoy it it just people have to get used to the fact that i am not the only person at the fund which people are starting to get used to like so when i go on vacation this time i literally told. The people were in the middle of raising. Schalke will manage the raise with you and heidi whoever over the next. Whatever two weeks when. I'm on vacation and you know i could jump in if you need but oh now we're into an area that i'm extremely passionate about his leverage on time. So what are what are the areas where you're like. Oh this is great. I can figure out a way to really scale this and get more leverage and have great people work with the company. Our work with the media. And what are the things where you're like. This actually is a core. Jason activity that i cannot outsource The survey question. I think when a founder is at crossroads where something is going really badly like the company's imploding. the company's getting bought or they have a founder crisis with co founder. That's when you gotta call affects her. There's no substitute for me coming in and guiding them through that storm so i would say you know the storms. I'm mini-storm no problem. But the which about serious you know. The the boats flipped and you know the pink passengers in the water. Yeah you're gonna need me to get on the helicopter. Get out there and coast guard at whatever the thing i've done in terms of leverage which you know i think is something people i discovered accidentally was. I started doing like an office hours type thing. And then i made it open to more and more people than having a slack. So i do Thing where. I just got off it before this call. Which is why i was ten minutes late. Sorry i have had about ten founders on two founders pitched me. They're three year model they said. Here's our three year model. Here's what we're thinking. Our three year plan so i realized because doug leoni told me you know jay said hope is not a plan. I would rather have plan for the company and just literally burned to my brain. Like w ona's like super manch. He speaks you. Listen yeah. I mean doug leoni has my phone number and he calls me sometime and i see doug because my phone at literally. My heart rate goes Hold on to. That doesn't happen with anybody anymore. And i i know group but he got propensity to just call people on the phone and have a two minute conversation with you and this has happened twenty times in my life more or less code called. Ceo one of my angel investments on a sunday a year ago. This is our moves just calls in your psych yonis from high dog. You know and sometimes it's something completely random and sometime. It's something completely life-changing where he's like. Oh this lp would like to meet you and would you be open to that. And yes mr leoni anyway. He when he told me that. Then i started doing this with my companies. And you know if you are going to the three year plan and eight. Other people are listening nine. Other people are listening. And then you say hey what are you what does the other nine founders thing. So those kind of group settings. I am not the only person but i'm leading the discussion. So critically and asking the probing questions man is that a game changer for founders. And for me you know. So that that's how i scaled myself and i'm going to continue to those kind of events and then do doing four days a week. I told my team. Give me the list of the highest revenue companies in our portfolio having been on the podcast and lead iq fit bod and gran dedicated episodes with those three companies in the last week or two. And i'm just going down the portfolio. And that's how i'm going to do it from now. On when the company said ten million five to ten million in revenue. I'm going to join the boards. When they're under that amount of the team you know be bored observers. Basically on those. So that's that's a. That's another ho nam. A very similar to what. He does where he says. Once you hit a ten million dollars run rate. Even if you're one of my a partners investments now you have my attention and now i start evaluating to figure out if we should be the growth investor in this company. Perfect i mean. I think it makes total sensors a. There's a clear benchmark of where get to seventeen managing partners and partners not include maas mri of softbank's investment team according to our quick research vision fund ten managing partners including moscow so hammock sense So yeah you would be deploying more. I think so. Yeah i mean. Also i think the syndicate is turning into more of a platform than you know vis-a-vis republic you know as opposed to a single person syndicate so we did two deals this past year. That were consensus deals so we started this remote demo day. And i'm in your feedback on this where we said. Hey here seven companies. Which ones do you want to invest in. When they broke to fifty or five hundred. I think we just said hey. World due diligence on the syndicated. It's not necessarily jason's deal syndicate voted collectively. That's something i've got sloshing around in my brain as hey if the syndicate wants to invest in this company and hundred members wanna put in ten each a million dollars. Who am i to stay. In their way. We could just process it for them and take the carry due diligence and manage the investment for them. So tell me more about What it means to for the syndicate to vote is it simple majority because rumor were at Do consensus driven industry. Well if a hundred people out of eighty three hundred wanted to put skin in the game Five hundred care more. It's such a small bad and it's such a small amount per person. I think you can be pretty Liberal promiscuous saturday at the word here. You can be pretty aggressive. Unaddressed was probably the best word was five million. You really do want to have somebody. Who's the lead right. So i think when you're making these two fifty five hundred k. Bats and it's a hundred people at twenty five hundred dollars or five thousand if you look at it like an experiment. Yup it's almost like a kickstarter you know kind of like a small bat. So the twenty five k. Back him advice jason. Do so. I think you need to. I think you need tonight..

"I don't know the exact time line here. So i'm i'm both hypothesizing and dramatizing for effect but with that said it takes the call. He knows what doug is up to. He hangs up with doug and he shoots mark an instant message. We ought to start a venture capital firm and mark replies. I was thinking the same thing. Boom who that are friends as where we're gonna leave park one. Ooh as a perfect perfect spot. I feel like. I now have a really robust understanding about the frame of mind there in going into starting injuries and hurwitz the firm. The question is when they're texting. Is this before or whether are on. Im is this before the financial crisis. I imagining this is sometime in two thousand eight. Yeah which is fascinating because then between the time where they have the idea to do this and when they actually launched the firm there is a global think financial crisis that they have to fund raise during. It's pretty wild totally well. I think we did a lot of great. Sorta playbook themes during the episode of their anymore. Highlight here yeah. There is actually one and we'll get into this more next time but it's pretty courageous who you choose. That word carefully did not. I did not okay. Came to my god. It's pretty courageous. But you know to turn down doug leoni to say we have a lot of money but we're going to deploy this money and put it at risk while all the rest of the world thinks everything is falling apart. I think it's easy to look back now. It's kind of like a trip to west craven scream. Sort of five minute little slasher. I appreciate that Yeah so when. I was finishing the offer. I was like well. Okay i have this. Have this original saw now. Maybe i'll just create accounts for the bad dreamers. And i'll upload this onto the internet and associate myself with the directly immediately but i'll make it look like this is a abandoned exists so that if anybody watches the offer then they can go and find this band and the fast forward like we got over one hundred thousand views in youtube this a very small number it relatively speaking but for us i short we started getting you know thousands of us day and and i was like wait a minute. There's a lot of comments about the song. And there's a lot of people playing the song that soundcloud and sharing it and whatnot so i was like i really do. Enjoy the music that i made for that short. I'm just gonna keep making more saws and posting them. And it kind of just snowballed into you know. Maybe i should tour. Maybe i should make another record. You know so. That's kind of that sort of the genesis of the ideas that i needed music for the first short that i made out here and Yeah so the badgers one. "I'm i'm kind of trying to stretch my w from earlier. Just try to stretch it out. As far as i can but i probably want to see a dip before like i f four. I wouldn't be able to resist. I would be buying the upside at four round three. I kinda see where you'd pass their. If you know he's gonna dip in your really confident you know if you could almost do a strategy and managed you know redraft leagues where you kinda count on getting swift at the three four. Turn like if it gets to that point and then maybe you don't take a running back early. I think it will evan. Would you think about jay swift with his ep dropping. Yeah he's a tough guy. He's a tough guy to rank right now. I mean he definitely should be in the top fifty behind. Ceedee lamb and alan robinson. I clue i got. I got a bunch of changes to make. Okay i've broken confidence on these someone. We got that one thing that we were on really on top of last year. Though that i think was huge wide receivers in rounds three through seven last year. We're just a total printing presses. We were all over that last element of last year. You know we. We had to bump the running backs up like we had to manufacture them up the board almost because of the runningback thirst. Maybe that isn't it. And i sort of anticipated that happening this year. Maybe it isn't happening as much. Yeah i think he's like in those first two rounds you kinda wanna get your guy before it gets scary and then not inflate some of these other guys. But it's tough. I mean it's not like these guys are bad and rahm three. it's just the receivers are really good. So it's it's definitely tough balancing act. Okay let's get a couple of debates here before we get out of here. I want to start with the tight end stuff in the math. Leoni is going to have the elite tight ends as so far in away better than the non elite ones. And i think what the math is. Basically saying leoni is that if you don't get one of waller kitto kelsey like there's no like taking using or seventh round pick on hopkinson or got hurt or fan or something like that is also bad. Is that the argument. You're making liotti with regard to how the tight end position structured this year. Yeah more or less. I think i like kittle and waller a little bit more than aben where you know. I think you could get a huge edge at that position. I probably have about right. Wherever does own manage the like in the thirties. But then i start to get a little nervous on like a fourth or fifth round like mark andrews. Tj hopkinson makes me nervous and then just kind of flowing through so positionally i think we're pretty aligned Within the position you know like hey be as a great breakout candidate but we saw last year. We thought tight end was deep. And just every stunk. And i just think i'm at the point where i wanna stockpile talent at the other positions if i miss out or just try and wait and get a really good value on someone that you know. Maybe closer around eight to ten. I'm not saying like i'm totally out. On hawkins inner andrews and it changes in best ball to where i think the ad. Structurally a little bit better. I'll take them at the end of five. I'll take that five. Six turns sometimes like andrews and hopkinson But overall yeah i just. I had that gap a little bit wider. Because sometimes what happens with these mid height your titans is they look good but the floor up kinda just shaky as the ones behind him on probably post hodkinson. That's true hopkinson and andrews have floor. That's better than these other guys mean. Are you sure you're not over correcting on andrew. You thought he could be like the overall tied on one last year. He's broken me. Evan his broken me. I mean i think he's a baller he. He did not play well last year and he still finished sixth among tight ends and route yards for route run and he dropped like so many passes and it was the the weird year where people thought he might not even play because he's got diabetes. And you know he just he didn't play well And i don't know to me. He's almost like a oppose type guy. 'cause people were really smart. People were really really high on him last year. Now you can get him as the tight end five. And i mean i still think you could finish as the top. Three tight in the situation for hopkinson is really really nice on paper because these wide receivers that they have in detroit are just nothing burgers and so That's i get it though i i. I think that the next round of type of tight ends Becomes the the place where you could really hurt me now. Because i think that i do have them too high but i have reasons for for them to too hi. This is also where you'll best i managed. There's a pretty big difference with how i'm treating the tight end position. Where because of destruction advantage of like only taking two tight ends or possibly getting a breakout high tight end like that upside. You can't really retreat quantity in best ball so that pushes up some of these high upside mid-tier titans even if they had they shake your floors whereas in your distraught redraft managed. I'm kinda like. I just wanna stockpile dizzy league receiver talent just crush people. My receiver spots crush people at my flex bought. And i'm okay. If i'm gonna figure tied down a little bit later are elected. I believe something i said last year was that i'd rather have mark injured in the fifth in travis kelsey in the first obviously That was probably with you so we died together. Okay let's debate here man verse math on a couple of running backs chris carson silva's higher on chris carson than the math. I'll let you go first. Here's silva give the bull case on chris carson. Just i think he's got pretty solid roll ensure assurance mix in some of the back end running back so they have on the depth chart. You know from time to time. But he's got roll.

alan robinson chris carson mark andrews fourth last year Tj hopkinson sixth Leoni Evan five this year Six travis kelsey andrews fifth round fifth leoni andrew Three liotti
