"My phone is as good as. You know, the the no nine that. I have is they it's absolutely crystal clear. It's a big screen. I can't believe the number of sports sporting something. It'll be on something. I'll I'll be in in. I'll be in my iced of a TV in my office, and I moved into the guest bedroom. Because now if I'm in my office and wanna watch TV just bring my phone in with my phone in an you know, an and I have the app for my my satellite, which gives me all channels on my phone, right? And I have other sports apps on that. I can watch sports, and I just sit on my desk, and I put the phone right in front of me. And the fact is the phone has to I I've got bluetooth stereo speakers. But I don't even use them when I'm watching TV on it because they've got to speakers on the phone, and it's fine. But on your just put on your desk, you know, putting your desk right there. And I got a little thing for just sit on and watch it on my phone, and that's a pretty big phone to watch TV on when you look at it. So you gotta count it. Well, and if you count it here in in the most most watched shows, and you you pair it in with I guess you put it into this list. It would be number eleven like I said earlier. Okay, number twelve would be because right now number eleven is roots part eight from January thirtieth nineteen seventy seven. It had one hundred million viewers on ABC. Wow. And and so ratings wise percentage that blows the Super Bowl through the roof now because how many people were there in the United States watching TV at that at that time. Oh, that's their Senator people watching gash. Yeah. Right. There's there's again, there's really no comparison the Super Bowl, okay. If we go to the top twenty and and actually there's twenty one because number twenty s is there's actually three ties for four number twenty. So there's nineteen twenty twenty one, but there's a total of twenty one events in this Leon Spinks vs. Mohammed Ali is at number nineteen ninety million. That's in one thousand nine hundred seventy eight September fifteenth nineteen seventy eight on ABC. So then you get into Super Bowl twenty eight. With ninety million Super Bowl thirty two with ninety million. So those are on those are on the bottom. But if you count for. The entire top twenty. Again, there's twenty one events they're all of them except for one two. Three are Super Bowls. Oh, yeah. And you could say I mean, putting Leon Spinks versus Muhammad Ali all of them, but two or sporting events. That's a huge deal. It's it is. It's not as waste met. What's mash mash is still at number nine hundred five point nine million February twenty eighth nineteen Eighty-three on CBS. Yeah. All right. We got a great show ahead. Eight six six ninety redeye. To open for your calls. Eight six six ninety redeye on Red Eye Radio. Be a part of the conversation by calling the shell Rotella hotline at eight six six nine.

"Tune in and yet here, the famous voice of Ernie Anderson, say roots, the story continues in America watch that. All right number eleven twelve right show Super Bowl event Super Bowl than Super Bowl Super Bowl Super Bowl Super Bowl Super Bowl Super Bowl to get down to number nineteen. And this is how much the world has changed. Number nineteen. Most watched short American television history Leon Spinks vs. Mohammed Ali second bout. On ABC. Yeah. A ninety million people watch that now what was the point? I was making about the apprentice the first year when it was a smash had twenty million people. That's how different are are viewing habits are right now. And what we watch right now. And what I remember about the Leon Spinks vs. Mohammed Ali fight. The second fight the very first one Spinks would only have seven or eight fights one. He beat Ali broke a lot of people's hearts, and you realize L E was done. His time was up Leon Spinks this young kid. It was just too strong for him. They do the rematch ninety million people watching what I remember most specifically about this was Howard Cosell calling the fight. But Howard Cosell had already created a narrative for this fight before the fight ever started. This happens in this narrative was basically like to an athlete dying young the famous poem, except he took the Bob Dylan song, may you stay? Forever. Young may your fist beat fans be very fast and your feet be very fleet. Whatever it is. May you stay forever? And he's starting to do it in that Cosell, Ian way, and what he's missing is up in the ring while Howard is doing his poetry and loving everything that he's doing and putting an intellectual poetic bent to an event that was not happening because up in front of him what we were seeing. And he was missing is. That Ali was beating the hell out of Leon Spinks. And the fight was even not even close. So he stayed forever. Young perhaps a little too long after that. All right. It's three twenty one right now. A little more. That may surprise you about television ratings on what you watch. And don't watch. We have that coming up. I'm Steve Edwards. And I am in for John and Jillian seven hundred KABC talk radio. KABC.

"This is fresher and we're speaking with writer jonathan eygi has a new biography of mohammed ali it's called alley a life you know i want to tie of what what happened with mohammed ali's case draft evasion conviction in the end it was overturned by the supreme court on a technicality essentially and had this this is is a fascinating episode that you write about it seems as if the court just decided they just weren't going to punish the sky after all this the the case was fascinating and it was a mess from the beginning it it probably never should have happened um but yes um the supreme court basically just after looking at it and deciding that that um that the prosecution was was legitimate that he that he was the conviction was was was would stand they just decided that they really didn't want to do this that they didn't want the the the publicity they didn't want to be seen as picking on this guy that it was just going to look bad especially if they did it bye bye simply refusing to hear the case by affirming the of the lower court's ruling it would look like they were like they were doing something sneaky or that they didn't have the courage to stand up and and hear the case so they decided to look for a way out and they found a technicality they found a way to drop the case um and and just reverse all can fiction without setting any precedent there are a lot of legendary fights and in the book we know with with frazier with ken norton with george foreman um and then as ali aged he just wouldn't quit i mean he he got beat by a young leon spinks on them came back and and he retired in came back so many times even after he really didn't have the discipline to train well he would fight lesser opponents and this is a clip i wanted to play of some better with the tv sportscaster howard cosell who had a long interesting relationship with alley and this is a.

"Liane right on the jaw and leon went straight back on this very dramatic high impact way and hit his head and of course i'm right there and i said oh jesus christ i thought a just incredible shock of all of the things they thought might happen that never once had entered my mind is a possibility i mean he was done somehow leon beat the count i don't know how and i was trying to signal to the referee from reside that it stopped the fight but the referee who couldn't believe what was happening didn't step in and giancarlo did this total the demolition job on the on speaks so ultimately the fight only lasted may be a minute and a half but it felt liking eternity while it was happening and really what i felt was a sort of horror because i understood that these who just really hard punches and that i head guest very very wrong about leon that he really shouldn't have been hit at all by anybody and of course the crowd was furious they assumed that i'd fixed the fight for john giancarlo's benefit and that giancarlo was my fighter i felt like an idiot i felt like an idiot i could have fixed the fight and i still don't know why i didn't it was incredibly unnecessary mistake at the very least caused us a one hundred seventy five thousand dollar payday in china but it actually did more than that because it caused leon spinks more neurological damage which was something he did not need to have and you know i really we tried very hard to make sure that leon didn't fight again but the next day i was sitting in a restaurant in the hotel where leon was stay and i had a business associate with whom i was talking and a lot of business had gone wrong for us that night.
