And they've done well with it so far. Um and you just wonder if they can continue to do well. They do have the great pitching. Let's talk to the voice of the White Sox right now. Len KASPER joins us each and every week he joins us right now in the Corona hotline. Then what was your reaction when you heard the news about Nick Madrigal? Well, you know it's interesting guys, because you know, I do that Tony LaRussa show every day and We generally have a time frame and that got pushed back a little bit, so I immediately thought it's probably about an injury. And then when Rickon shows up on the media zoom You go. Oh, and he even alluded to that, so I didn't expect it to be good news. And it wasn't the first place I go as I feel really bad for the player. It's the way I felt when a lawyer went down. It's the way I felt when Luis got hurt. And it's definitely how I feel with Nick, who was having a really nice stretch. I mean offensively, starting to hit the ball for Gap Power. Four triples to Have a share of the American League lead. I think defensively has been much better here of late. Just a guy you can count on every day in your lineup and to now no That he might not be available for the rest of the year, which would be the worst case scenario and I think you have to kind of operate with that, at least in the back of your mind. If you're the White Sox, it's pretty devastating. And the other part is Now that you look ahead. There wasn't a ton of depth in terms of middle infield here, and you're really starting to test that. Fortunately, it's a team that's in first place, and that helps a lot, But it's a bad one. Not going to lie. It's amazing isn't Atlanta I just mentioned the adversity that this team is face? We're not even to the halfway point. June 13 games over 500. I mean, you've got some great individual performances from their rotation. But the vibe in that clubhouse has been so good and so strong at at some point, you know, All of these injuries have to take their toll on their record, doesn't it? Well, Not necessarily Tom. I mean, I think that I think they are really good. And I think they're deep generally, and you give this front office a lot of credit and and the manager and the staff and the players themselves for having Defensive versatility, with all the infielders having to play the outfield. I think that's kind of the silver lining behind all this, but I look at the Toronto Blue Jays. I mean, half their bullpen is on the injured list. The Yankees have been One of the most ravaged teams in baseball, the last two or three years with injury and they just won 100 games every year, right? The Dodgers have battled a lot of injuries, so nobody feels sorry for you, anyway, is an industry type thing where a lot of guys right now are hurt an important players. But it doesn't make it any easier in the moment, I guess when you have to contemplate life without a guy like Nick now I don't know if and when a Loy and Luis Robert are going to be back, But I think the flip side to this Is for these three guys in particular. If you get them back at all this year Now you kind of feel like it's a bonus, and it could be a huge lift late in the season. If any of that happens, Len, I know you're an exceptionally sharp guy. I do not know. Apologies, whether or not you have a medical degree, but I'm going to ask you the question anyway. Okay, But kin is there any way to connect any of these dots? I know the alloy injuries and upper body injury and they Robert Injuries, a hip injury, But you just mentioned there's a series of of injuries across Lee. Can you point to anything that would explain why they're so many injuries? Not just with this team that may be in major league baseball to this point, I can't. I think there are some theories out there about the starting the stopping the starting again last year. That weird year everybody had And that somehow could be connected. But I I don't really know. I know. Every team is trying to figure out how to prevent These things from happening, But at the end of the day, man.

They have the stupid headsets on And as Lazarus put, you could put a green light red light. If the challenge is successful to green light. If it's not, it's a red light. You don't need them. Why are we watching umpires and headsets? What we need is what the XFL did. I don't know if you remember what the XFL did, and there should be a camera on the guy reviewing the play, and he should talk you through it, and they should put it on the jumbo trying In the stadium and on our broadcast. We should get the camera in the sound of the guy. We're reviewing the play in New York, and he could announce This is the angle. It's inconclusive. We don't know where he tagged him. And this is why it is full transparency. Full transparency. What are you afraid of? Like we don't need makeup umpires. We don't need these guys. These guys stink anyway, They're going to be robot home going to D. C with some of the calls Last night from the I was watching the Cubs Padres game. I don't think I've seen a worst performance by a home plate umpire all year long. And there was one game this year where I've got, like only 85% of the strikes and balls, right? What I need is New York with technology today. It is so easy to just put the camera there and to say, okay? Fans. Now we go to New York. What are they going to rule wants them review it. And give them an inside. Look at something else. How does it work? How's the sausage made, you know, show us who just think it. What's going on how of the first three plus weeks of the season gone for you guys pretty pretty. Well chris. thanks for having me on. it's It's it's been an interesting start for this team to say the least Kinda bullpens struggled early. They're kind of getting it together. Now offense if you look up and down the lineup some guys would track records have really not gotten at going but collectively. It's been pretty good. And then the starting pitching is really activity disclosed and being able to call a no hitter. Carlos roa down a couple of weeks ago is was exciting and Fans in the stands. I think is the big takeaway chris. I i think every broadcaster baseball would tell you that they're essential to the experience and while we had to do it without fans last year. I don't think i'd prefer to ever do it again. That way because it just it adds so much energy and he just. It's not only reactions. It's it's anticipation right. And i think the fake crowd last year you got the reaction noise. But you didn't get the the anticipation. And i think that's been a huge huge lift for everybody in the game. Yeah i think you're right there. That's one thing that You know as good as the in game presentation is that's one thing that you can't replicate right like kind of who the collective breath in as a line drive is headed towards right-center or breaking ball drops out of the zone. So he comes in here, He's gonna get some playing time. Apparently, the White Sox offered more. They offered 10 million For one year, but they couldn't guarantee him playing time. And apparently maybe he miscalculated the market and he heads up, citing for three million less with the Cubs. I don't get playing time. Yeah. I'm wondering, Would Schwarber have taken less than he got to stay with the cops? Yeah. I don't know that answer with the whole arbitration stuff. He would have been in arbitration arbitration for him. Yes, it was a six or seven. Yeah, something like that, so he probably would have had less. But you know, that's again. He's one of the few guys who, actually out shot is whatever his number as in free agency, right, so he actually made a little bit more. So he got 10 million for the one year so Yeah. I'm not sure if it's Lynn door as much as teams waiting on clarity in terms of what the season's gonna look like, and I think the Mets have clearly been And out liar, in part because they have a new owner in Steve Colon. Um, you know, the the Cubs did this to kind of jump start their farm system and he had a gentle lawyer says they're going to be active in free agency, not at the top of the free agent market. But Feeling. You know several holes throughout this roster, so I think just everything's been kind of pushed back here that you know where you said around this time in December. You have the winter meetings and things heating up. I think everything's just pushed back. Weeks, if not months of people. Wait, wait for answers and kind of wait for direction. Where? In the sense, I guess, Patrick that Cubs fans, maybe since 0 2014 2015 have been used to a sense of just consistency and from a personnel perspective, But with everything changing since December with feel Len KASPER Yu Darvish, it's been a bit of an interesting I guess. Overhaul Kyle's former there. Wilson. Contrary to rumors, the Chris Brian trade rumors have been going on for years. So I will be very interested to see if Jed Hoyer pulled off another trade in that direction. Before players report to spring training, I think clearly Uh, if they don't do that, they'll be thinking about the trade deadline coming up this summer. Whenever that would be, uh, because clearly they're not going All in two in this year, and I think a real telltale sign will be how quickly and how aggressively they reinvest the money that they're saving from training. Darvish, San Diego to see kind of Um, you know how much they pour back into the major league team, And if they're able to kind of thread that needle, you know, which was a phrase that Theo Epstein used to repeatedly before. Hey, step down in November. What do you remember most about covering and talking to and getting the know Theo. Let's good question. I think they're amazing. The learned a lot from our conversations over the years and think of ah, very quick and sarcastic sense of humor that do not always match with kind of the persona. Was presented in Boston. I think if someone who could really see the entire field that when he would give an answer or think through a scenario, he could really kind of process. How serious or how aggressive the Angels will ultimately be the really difficult to maybe kind of line up things here, but there's no doubt that Joe Maddon On Come of the coaches who fought him to Anaheim are big fans of Wilson Contreras. "I'm a for a lot of Cubs fans. It's been a very down off season. What are they doing with the roster doing back? Are they totally rebuilding just more than a retooling? Deal walks out the door. Len KASPER shocked us all. He's one of our teammates now, and he's going to be the voice of the White Sox. That absolutely shocked us when we got that new did, But when that door opened, you were the first person to suggest a name. Yes, I mean, and he's been a friend of the show for the last year or two, and he's so smart and I love a play by play voice whose opinionated as well And boobs. She Ami has done just great work on the network and as a teammate of ours on ESPN for many, many years, and you want a guy who just loves baseball on a guy who's funny and a guy who cares about the game and makes you smarter as a listener. And that's what boob does. And and I didn't know if Marky was ready to make a move like that. There were rumors going elsewhere, and I was so happy I was on the treadmill. Yesterday when Jesse texted you and I saying it was just in all caps. Boog exclamation point. I thought he was calling you a boob and just misspelled it. What his next step was going to be. Look. I like my gig at ESPN, so I wasn't really Looking, and I understood. The things that lead was trying to fulfill it. This point and, you know, radio wanted to call postseason games. Those are two things that I was fortunate that I have gotten a chance. Do so I got it, but because of how close I am with him. Was really more focused on helping him navigate. Okay, we can do you do this and just listening to, you know Okay? Yeah. This you'd be happy doing this, and I was really more focused on that. And I didn't. The time to like, sit with whether I would be a fit until I did And then when I did I know that it sounds weird, but it's just You know, for all the times I've been doing the job that I've been doing. "Strange feeling at Soldier Field last night after the Bears lost the Packers, but they're in the playoffs after getting some help from the Ram's head coach, Matt Maggie this morning and put this this Packers game behind us, because now it is a new season and I think already just from talking to it. Some of our coaches in here and some of the guys in the weight room today that they're they're really excited, and it's just a little different feeling than what we had last night, which I think was natural. So guys, we're locked in, and we're excited to play the scenes on Sunday and we gotta have a really good Really good week of practice. 3 40 kickoff Sunday afternoon in New Orleans. Jonathan Taylor is not on the ice and likely won't be with the Blackhawks his Blackhawks teammates for a while, as he deals with a medical issues. Patrick Kane on the start of training camp. It doesn't really feel like like a team without giants as your captain, so we definitely miss him, but He's got take care of his first Brent Seabrook P a suitor and Evan Barrett.
