It is 5 19 on Wall Street live from the Bloomberg Interactive Brokers Studios. This is Bloomberg. Daybreak. Let's get more now on President Biden's plan to tackle the pandemic, Terry Is with us this morning, founder of Pangea policy Terry. Good morning. Obviously, the centerpiece here seems to be the president mandating vaccines not just for federal workers and government contractors with this new rule that the ocean is going to put out in regard to businesses with more than 100 employees. What's your reaction to that? Is this something that they can stand the test of legality? Good morning, Nathan. I've gotten mixed reactions about the president's initiative. On the one hand, I think it's a market. Positive markets likely applaud the effort and the the focus and the seriousness. So that's good for markets and as a sign that the White House is serious about that is a good thing. But at the same time the execution of this is muddy and You know, I'm always a believer that processes policy as much as anything else, And, uh, the execution of this is is difficulty there is as you point out. Uh, Concerns about whether or not a future OSHA regulation can be can be sustained of already seen a lot of different and look to myself to see a lot of A problems with that. You've also got the situation of the federal government stepping over state powers and last I saw their released 14 states that We're interested in challenging this. So that's that's a problem from an execution standpoint. Um there's a business concern about exactly what's going to happen and how it's going to happen. And you know the vast majority of businesses in this country. I think we're trying to figure out how to get further vaccines on their own anyway. So on the one hand, you know They appreciate the underpinning from the White House. On the other hand, they're concerned about execution. And finally, you know, if you if if you're doing an important thing, I think you should be ready to go. And the announcement yesterday amounted to We're going to do this important thing. Days, weeks in the future with this, said OSHA emergency regulation. If something's an emergency, it ought to be ready to go right now. So a lot of the benefits both market and political that the president could get out of this. I think they're blunted. By the way this is this is being rolled out. As you point out. There are a number of businesses very large businesses that have already imposed vaccine mandates of their own. Doesn't grease the wheels somewhat. Oh, increases go. Absolutely. I mean, I think there's a convergence between the between the interests of many businesses who were trying to figure out exactly how they were going to do this. I mean, you know, it's helpful for business to have a White House underpinning. And at the same time there is a concern from business about, you know, Look, uh, so, Biden said. We're going to do this thing. How are we going to do it? Well, I don't know. Yes, we'll know in weeks, so I think there's also there's going to be, um, potentially greasing the wheels, but there's also going to be in the Andrew. Um, anyway. Frustration about how this is going to happen and concerns that The greasing the wheels may not prove to be a legal way to do it, whatever it's going to be something else that is going to be of interest to business this morning, President Biden had a 90 minute phone call last night with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Obviously, the business community has really been putting pressure on To try to smooth out the relationship and lower trade barriers. That sort of thing. What do you see? Coming out of this phone call between presidents by, didn't she? The more I the more I thought about this. The more I thought that there were similar with similar theme is going on on the one hand, broadly speaking on the one hand You know your business, Uh will will be happy and and glad that the administration is pushing as hard as it can on normalizing whatever it can on China..

Nathan, Thanks, Michael 6 20 on Wall Street live from the Bloomberg Interactive Brokers Studios. This is Bloomberg Daybreak. And as you just heard from Bloomberg's We need a young after a rough day for Bitcoin. El Salvador's moved to adopt the Cryptocurrency is legal tender did make for a wild day of trading. Let's get more from Mike Novogratz, the founder and CEO. Of Galaxy Digital is an avid backer of Cryptocurrencies. He spoke with Bloomberg. Shonali basic and remained caustically yesterday. Mike, you are known to buy the dip. So what are you buying and how much of it There's been a big selloff. I think we always have to remember that crypt that was still a retail dominated ecosystem. But we've got institutions that are moving in by the day that's created a lot of excitement. But there's lots of retail money a lot of its leverage. There was about $4 billion of liquidations that happened in a short period of time. That's mostly leverage offshore in places like FT X and Finance. And the market got too long. It got long for good reasons, right? I think. In the last eight weeks there has been a giant realization that kryptos not just Bitcoin being bought as a hedge against bad monetary and fiscal policy. But maybe more importantly, it's Web three point out, it's the Internet of value Transfer. AM when you see companies like these are buying in ft, and say they think digital goods is a big part of their future. WalMart and Amazon two biggest retailers in the world, putting up help wanted science curricula jeans. For crypto experts. There's a realization that this is a technology And no investor wants to miss the next Internet. I am just curious as to what role if any governments then will have in this because the El Salvador approach was, of course, much more just straight transactional, and we've seen sort of some of the concerns as a sort of gravitating to a transactional model for Bitcoin and other crypto assets here with other governments decide to get into this. What role do you think they would play in this environment? There's There's two different sides to this right. Governments are going to be very, very protective of their national Kurt, right their ability to tax and print currencies. Uh, is is had him out for them existing aspect. And so I think they'll be okay with payments. You're going to see Verizon stable points, right? China's issuing one you'll see in almost every major country. Uh, you know, basically wrapped versions of those national courage. Um and I think things like Bitcoin, which in the West really are being used to store value. People aren't using it as a transaction hurts. I think what's unique and Salvador is 20% of their GDP comes from reminiscence. And so you can see lots of those Remittances, people sending Bitcoin back across oceans from the U. S. Bill Salvador and the locals either keeping Bitcoin because they're worried about the dollar. Remember they had dollarized economy. Or converting it and spending it, uh, in the local economy, and so you know, it's kind of unique in that respect. Uh and we'll see, you know, maybe it gets used as a transaction currency. I've never thought it would be partly because I think it's going to keep going higher. And why would you spend something that's gonna keep going higher. The rollout for El Salvador is choppy. There's a price drop there was technology, which is at the beginning What impact might have on future countries that may choose to go this route. Venezuela, for example, comes to mind when a lot of people talk about this Listen, no matter whatever you're doing a new technology and roll out their religious and so I guess the real question has come back in six weeks are 12 weeks and let's talk about how it's working for the people of El Salvador's and system themselves. You know, And I don't remember what Obama rolled out Obamacare, and it was kind of a disaster for a little while, and they they sort of the glitches out. You know, doing things that scale is not easy. And so I've got a lot of faith that, uh, they'll get this right. That's Galaxy Digital founder and CEO Mike Novogratz, speaking with Bloomberg, Shonali basic and remain Bostic about El Salvador's rollout of Bitcoin as legal tender yesterday. Morning. El Salvador's president says Starbucks and Pizza Hut are accepting Bitcoin payments and some El Salvadorans on Twitter say they were able to buy McDonald's breakfast with the token yesterday, checking Bitcoin. Now it's down 1.4% at about $46,160 futures moving lower. You're listening to Bloomberg Daybreak..
