"Influential conversations from Bloomberg television. Here's Tom Mackenzie. Joining us now is David Leighton, CEO of partners group David. Walk us through what some of the key takeaways were for you, what you're seeing in terms of that client demand in this environment of higher rates, recession fears, of course, very high inflation. What we're seeing is a sustained interest in private markets is an increasingly important part of client portfolios. We raise about $13.1 billion of new capital in the first half of this year and increased our management fees for managing those assets by about 18%, which I think demonstrates this sustained demand that people have for private markets, even in an environment like this, where we see volatility. I think one of the benefits of private markets is that we have a very long-term view on the investments that we make. And I think in this current environment where there's so much short termism, that appeals to a certain you see that kind of fundraising that you had in the first part of this year, it can not be sustained. I think it can be, in fact, we have reaffirmed our full year guidance for this year of raising between 22 and 26 billion for the full year, 22. And that is unchanged despite all of the ups and downs and negative data points that we've had throughout the course of this year. "Are going to hear from layton. He grew up in warrenton in the northwest of england but his family are from. Nigeria is a country where it still illegal to be gay and layton felt so unsafe. He didn't even go to his own. Dad's funeral when i was about fourteen. Fifteen escort the time. All my friends were like. Oh yeah gets and girlfriends and all that and there was this particular girl that everyone thought. I'll go after book. I was just not interested. That's all but at the center couldn't sell any of my friends because been warrants and added time. That was three so warranting. wasn't this developed mentally. Just straight on obama's what everyone knew times but by the time i was sixteen then met someone at school who were showing the same interest so trump site so again instead of going to peak class. We were more interested hats class and all that so we kind of realize okay. Maybe we are live in the same way and things developed and we got together and get a free and this was your first love time. Presumably at school in warrington. I remember the first time we kissed was actually on the back of the school field next to the small reviver time and it was. It was fun and we get so two thousand three and everyone just thought will mates so hang on a minute. Let me get this right. So that was a company as after three s so together for eight years with your first boyfriend was seventy six twenty three. So that's quite extraordinary. Isn't it and you have that relationship secretly. It was create even when we moved giver. Everyone just over friends. My parents lived about a mile away. They follow friends as well. Thought you know just two. Lads shared a house together nothing more and because we had quite law female friends. That couldn't say debate. Friend of their star. Maybe we are in details as well
Project Sealab 1 Summary Report - Part 1
"Way back in the nineteen sixties when i was growing up most of us were intently focused on the space race in one thousand nine hundred sixty four. The united states was making the transition from the mercury program to the gemini program and there really wasn't allowed manned spaceflight going on that year but there was another amazing exploration going on in interspace natwest project lab. One well i didn't know a great deal about c. lab until i started doing some research for the segment. I did hear on the show about scott carpenter. I did read. Ben held hells worst book about c. lab and that gave me a really good understanding of the magnitude of the entire c. Lab project both one two and three. And as i was doing more research i came across a report from the office of navel research. And it's the project sea labs summary report so today. I wanna start two part series on this report in part one today. I'll take you through the report up until the c. Lab one habitat is placed in position and then in part to a couple of weeks from now will review the mission some of the findings and conclusions by the project sea labs. Some report is subtitled. An experimental eleven day undersea saturation dive at one. Hundred and ninety three feet and report is dated june fourteenth nineteen sixty five for anyone looking for the report you might want to search on n r report. Ac are one zero eight. It's not that long to sixty two pages now. The copy. I got had a stamp on the cover. Then indicated. hard copies of the report would cost three dollars while microfiche would be seventy five cents and the copy was also stamped. Archived copy of this report are ha o.'neil from the office of navel research. Gif bond captain united states navy from the united states naval medical research. Laboratory are eland. Fear lieutenant commander. Us n. office of navel research and t odum of the mind defense laboratory in the preface pen by rear admiral. Leighton he says project sea lab one was the navy's first step into space. He also states that this report is being published by the navy so that all may share the information it is interesting to note that the background section of the report the authors do reference the work being done by captain shot cousteau and mr edwin a link and that was on their man in the sea concept they they stated indeed. The navy seems to be left at the post by the well-publicized efforts of captain cousteau and mr link. So it sounds like there's a little bit of sour grapes. Their report goes on to describe a december nineteen sixty three conference with the navy's bureau of ships where they obtained support for a c. lab now at that conference. They decided that the mine defense laboratory would build a habitat needed to select a location and they had five critique criteria for the selection one was the prospect of good weather too was good visibility. Three was a level bottom for was moderate water. Temperatures at depth and five was the general features of ocean graphic and marine biology biological interest. Now the site that they selected was argus island off of bermuda by march of nineteen sixty four all the appropriate approvals were obtained and they were often running and the operations were supposed to be conducted in the summer of one thousand nine hundred sixty four now. The mine defense laboratory selected an old experimental minesweeping float. Now the report has quite a few pictures and illustrations in it. Unfortunately the pictures are really not that great because of this. Pdf being produced either from a microphone. Show old old dot copiers but the stations are pretty good. Particularly the architectural drawings of c. lab won both the plan view and the cross section views by marched by may nineteen sixty four. C. lab was ready for sea trials off panama city. Florida on may twenty second nineteen sixty four. It was towed out to sea and sank uncontrolled and flooded over half full of seawater. Fortunately there were no injuries. The habitat was lifted. Towed back dried out and ready for another try on may twenty six this time with success. The previous incident was attributed to a misunderstanding of line handling waters by july. They were in bermuda and ready to sink. C. lab on july fourteenth. They again had issues because of the three to five foot swells and the yard patrol boat that they were using just wasn't powerful enough like chief brody said in jaws. I think you're gonna need a bigger boat. Well in this case. It was a crane that they took from bermuda. The reach the report details the adventure of getting c. lab on the bottom but they finally did an after getting everything hooked up and twenty four hour checkout on monday july twentieth. One thousand nine hundred sixty four at seventeen thirty five. That's five thirty five pm for you. Civilians c. lab one was manned by robert e. less anderson robert a barth sanders w manning and robert e thompson. Now what were the conditions like on c. lab interesting. The report says see lab proper dry inhabitable atmosphere satisfactory temperatures. Seventy eight degrees chilly. Water supply water not available heaters operable. Tv monitor not hooked up properly. Hot water heaters not operating refrigerator not operating co two scrubbers satisfactory. Electro writer. Satisfactory calibrated microphones not functioning. Crass burgo two meters satisfactory lights satisfactory. So you can see. There was still a lot of things that needed to be repaired. So i had to do was fixed everything that wasn't working and then complete their mission so in part to this series i'll take you through the mission the findings and conclusions from project sea lab some report of nineteen sixty five americas first journey into interspace. And that will be next time here on scuba shack

"And i don't i don't i said you versus say well i'm peter But what i can do is i can say look at how god treat peter and therefore look at what god may say to me. Whenever i find. I self denying christ or i find myself Struggling with my faith Look at how. God treated One of his own during that time. And so there's application to how god treated the first century jew to us but we do have to understand. There's a difference between what he says necessarily to an apostle Who has been chosen for a very special purpose in in in contradiction to what. Maybe he's saying to us. And sometimes we like to be treated like apostles. You know we'd like to be put ourselves in the higher scale of yeah. I'm on the special apostles. Well i'm not a jew I'm not one of the chosen apostles. I wasn't chosen for that purpose. I'm not still writing scriptures. When i write my books So there is a difference between me. And paul and me and peter if. I don't acknowledge that when i'm reading the text and sometimes i can. I suggest stick myself as the hero and therefore apply certain passages that he's talking about an apostle an apostolic authority and make myself in essence in in the story as one of those apostles when that's not the intention of the tax all why we appreciate it. dr lighten. we really do appreciate everything you've done We appreciate your work especially in texas baptist life. I think you're you're you're true. He wrote to a lot of people helping people especially having to do with galvanised. I've got calvin est in my family. So yeah so. "You want to come. You're born with a desire not to want him unless he's chosen you and he will give you an a major causing you to want him so anybody who wants to be a christian anybody who wants to follow god the reason they want that is because god chose them and irresistibly graced them or affectionally called them. This is sometimes referred to as regeneration this is. Why the calvin will often argue that one must be regenerated in order to have faith that they're born again before they believe whereas we would say provision. Now you believe so as to be born again as john twenty thirty one says these things were written speaking of the gospel. So that you may believe and that bob believing you may have life in his name. So how'd you have life in his name by believing that's the correct order. Salinas is what jesus said in john. Five forty refused to come to me so that you may have life. Jesus didn't say. I refuse to give you life so that you would certainly come to me. Which is what the order would be on calvinism. He says you refused to come to me. You refuse to believe in me so as to have life so how does it dead. Man get new life by believing in the life giving truth of the sun and the cabinets have reversed order and say no you have to be made alive in order to believe the life giving truth now. What we're saying is no you believe the life giving truths to estimate alive and think. This is the biggest debate among the calvinism. The provision is whether faith precedes regeneration. Or not and. I think it's abundantly clear throughout the scriptures that we believe so as to be given life not the other way around now the the illuminating grace is what i would replace irresistible grace with in other words the light that appears to all men john one nine. This is the illuminating. Not light of the gospel. God makes his his truth known so that we may respond to it and we're responsible for what we do with the light that he eliminates us through general revelation through special revelation. Both were responsible to that light. Because it's a limiting and it's bright enough for the loss person to respond in faith to it and god's faithful and just to bring more light to those who are faithful with a little and the longer we walk in his light the more that will see the more that will trust in the more that will understand him Just in the reverse of that. The more we suppress the truth more. We close our eyes to the light than the less light will be provided. Eventually being even cut off from the light altogether because of our rebellion in our rejection. Which is why we have the warnings. When you hear his voice do not harden your hearts do not close your eyes to the illuminating light. His grace that grace's sufficient. Here's an important point that i wanna emphasize grace is a gift guy but a gift does not have to be factually given for the giver to get full credit for giving the gift..

"He's he's chosen to be granted entrance based upon the goodness of the one who clothed him and those and those are those who have faith in christ and so with the calvinism think mistakenly have done. Is they've taken. Unconditional election to mean not only. Is it about individuals but it's about individuals being chose an unconditional upon their morality. Good or bad. But also uncondition upon their faith in christ and other words god's choosing people unilaterally before they're born not regard to whether they are being closed in righteousness of christ or not and in fact. What god's going to do is going to unilaterally caused them to be closed in the righteousness of christ so as to grant them entrance but nowhere in the pages of scripture. Do we see this link being made instead. What we see is that god grants entrance based upon the righteousness of christ for those who believe which he's not obligated to give to those people he chooses to do so graciously because he's a good and loving god so those are the four choices that really reflect the election doctrines of election trump the scripture. And what you'll see calvin often do. They'll they'll take purses out of their context for example. You'll hear her. Al muller do this recently in a sermon. Where he uses john fifteen sixteen You did not choose me. But i chose you. And he uses that as a support for individuals being chosen for salvation. When in reality john fifteen sixteen is about god choosing from among his disciples those who would be as apostles. You did not choose me. I chose you to be my apostles. And so again. He his choices not to the of other people his choice for these people to mobile be a blessing to the people. Around him i've chosen you to be the messenger illustration of used before is about my children. I've got four children. If i got my oldest son and i said son. Here's a plate of cookies. I want you to go. Bless your siblings. I want you to take this plate of cookies. Cheer brothers and sisters. I am not favouring my son to the neglect of my other children. I'm not being bias. I'm choosing one child to be a blessing to the other children right..

"Other venues many of which have been recorded Goal of different direction than maybe go in this particular broadcast. But you're you're welcome to go there download and use the information spread the information as you will because My goal in. This broadcast is to really help people to understand why I don't believe calvinism is the best sociological option with regard to the the correct interpretation scripture. Yet i bring these critiques with With respect to my calvinistic brothers and sisters who disagree with me. And so let. Let's jump into this by By first making this this first presentation of what you may see. There's a duck and others. Whenever you look at this you may see a rabbit. I use this as a just kind of illustration to say when when two people could come to the same text. That's controversial like romans chapter nine. Some people see the duck in the taxed and some people see the rabbit in the text and therefore it can become very easy for us to look at the other person and say well you must not be very smart or you must not be very ah christian christ like are you must not be very A very good You know exit of the scriptures if you think that that's a duck because obviously it's a rabbit and and the kind of the concept can be that we assume a net nefarious intention upon our brother and sister in christ who is simply interpreted a passage differently than we have. Now what. I'm not arguing. Is that the scriptures are necessarily trying to convey both the duck in the rabbit. Some people come to that conclusion. That paul in romans nine for example was teaching both armenian as a main calvinism both Both sides of the both the duck and the rabbit are being represented equally. I don't believe that's the case. I don't believe that. The bible is is contradicting itself. I believe that the bible is very clear but that we fallen creatures can misinterpret and so..

Bob was actually in spot a little bit by a few people that i've met in my life one of them specifically actually who was an owner of a horse riding camp. "Where is their fairness? Where is there? Justice? And it's such a nonsensical decision here, Rebecca Gregory, because they they removed the death penalty and kept everything else. They kept the conviction. They kept the life imprisonment. They claim that it was because some of the jurors had made some statements on social media at a time, which again he has a defense team if they didn't raise it. What did you know that? I once said that a part for a moment? It doesn't make any sense. I hate it when our system of government comes down on a ruling like this were decision like this, and it doesn't make any logical sense. Either. It was a fair trial or it wasn't How can it only be unfair when it comes to the death penalty but fair on every other category. That's what we don't understand. And I will never understand how someone who was slipping off. The camera did not get a fair trial in the first place. I walked with my own eyes him. He had no remorse he had He was joking with his attorney while she was rubbing his back. I mean, it was Leighton disrespect for all of the people in the courtroom, and that is that the time where I really became angry with it, because it was just so heartbreaking to see the families come in. And rehash all of the horrific details of that day and have someone who was proud of it. I mean, he had no remorse. He doesn't have remorse. He did what he came to do that day, and they were going to go on the New York and do the same thing. Our guest is Rebecca Gregory. She survived the Boston Marathon Terrorist attack. And now is an inspirational story in every possible sense of the word, By the way, if you run an organization Of it is facing any level of adversity that needs an inspirational speaker. You could not do any better than Rebecca Gregory and you could get all of her information at her website, Rebecca Gregory dot com On her book is available. Taking my life back. The Justice Department under Attorney General Bar now has a decision make Rebecca Gregory. They are going away this decision and they're going aside whether they want to go through with the second sentencing trial. As as a survivor of this attack. What is your recommendation? What do you want to see Done? I think the damage has been done already. And it's interesting that we're at this point because the Richard family who lost Martin mean they pleaded with everyone said that they wanted the death penalty taking off from the beginning because we didn't want to have to go through all of this all over again. And I was the 11 of the people who signed off on that thing. I agreed to it. If we want to just give him life in prison, then that is more than okay, because he In bed to us already. I mean, we have to move on with our lives. So all this is doing is opening those wounds. And I mean prolonging this nightmare that we had been living for the last seven heat. It's been seven years. Yeah, I recognize that. And however, I also think that that our our society requires a level of justice that is is equitable with regard to this time, and it's such a horrific obviously was a crime against you and your fellow survivors and those sadly, who did not survive the attack, But it was a crime against all of us. It was a crime against our society, our culture our way of life. And that's why I was in favor of the death penalty. The problem here is not the penalty. The problem is the system that allows for so many well funded defense attorneys who does this guy's not paying their bills. They're going in there, and they're very well funded and they can fight this and fight this and fight this for decades. Yeah, That's Taylor's part. We don't know when there's ever going to be an end. And if someone that brought two bombs to the Boston Marathon and attacked America he didn't just attack the people that were there that he attacked America. This was Against us all. And so if someone like that can be overturned his sentence be. Then where is there ever going to be justice in anything? So, with this point, you would prefer that the Justice Department just walk away, leave him to rot in jail for the rest of his life. I would prefer this to never even be a question. I never thought that we would be in this position again. Where you're having Tio. Just live every moment of 2015. I mean, I thought 2020 was crazy and like it almost said, Hold my beer. I've got more for you. Absolutely. I'm in disbelief. And there's four months to go by the way. So, um, listen, I love your attitude so much as you can tell him a fan. I've watched a lot of your interviews leading up to our conversation today. And And you just You represent everything that this nation should be all about, Frankly, and I guess I'd like to be instead take the rest of our time here to focus on that focus on what you're doing with your life. Post this terror attack and and some of the real great sort of Positive outcomes that you've had for yourself. Rebecca Gregory, Considering so many of us faced with what you had to deal with, would have fallen into such a deep depression. I mean, how how hard was it not to go there? Well, I really appreciate all the kind things you've said, and I just feel like the majority of us will never get blown up by a bomb in a marathon that every single person has life love in their face. But what I've learned from all of this is that there is so much purpose in the midst of our pain, and I have devoted my entire life for that now now in a number of ways, and I just feel like it. Our story can resonate with someone else and inspire them to keep going. "That was really in you and I was kind of copying. You goes back to one of the things I said was. Will you come to know? Christ you recognize that you are a center that one if you not worth saving. It's a blessing that got. Choose to save you and because of that you begin to see yourself for who you are. There are a lot of people who come to church for a variety of different reasons. And they don't come to say they'll come to see themselves not they may come There are people in the church. Who are looking for mates The undeterred a looking for our already empty church who can make money off the George I mean I've seen a variety of different things said GONNA people heading out business cards and things. It's a lot of things that go on with people. Come into the church. So just because the person in the church house at the lean they say man autograph and that includes pastors elders in needs every want. So what about because he got one more kind of controversial topic? I guess we ourselves. Some people have different philosophies on this. So what about those? Who are never offered salvation. Well one it takes God to God is the one who calls everyone needs to salvation so God knows who will accept in who will not. He's already he knows if he's already gone through the whole thing. He lives in turn itself. We'll macho through todd. But God is not. He sees a Ho- when top he arranges for people to say Nikola in on one deepen was that needs to be saved. God will make a way for them to hear the Gospel showtime the if if someone doesn't matter where they are a God will arrange for them to be saved if because he knows that they will accept the Gospel they will be safe but those who will not if he doesn't present the Gospel to he has not failed because they would not. He already know they. They won't accept wanted a greatest cases of course he presented to them but was Jews when I was walking on earth is they were the leaders. They knew all about it and yet they refuse to acknowledge him. The name was right there in front face so there are some people who will not accept the Gospel no matter what God is aware that is so he. He makes all the arrangements of how it works out. Who's going to be saved in when they saved and all of that? Yeah like that. I like that And that's a I think. Sometimes that's a hard thing for us to wrap our minds around because.

"We're sure that you'RE GONNA get a lot out of these interviews and we also WANNA. Thank each of them for fitting in well for fitting you in really. Into, their frankly insane schedules. We really appreciate it. An. Ask for news well. It's been pretty much covid. All the time has an so. Sorry, but it dominating our news here, too, so we thought we'd go ahead and highlight for you a few of the happenings. That are impactful to your business. So, Tiffany! Let's go USDA. An FDA have both issued various temporary flexibilities regarding food safety amid Covid, nineteen pandemic first FDA released a new guidance document to allow egg producers. They normally will be sending their eggs to facilities for further processing the flexibility sell their eggs for distribution to retail locations to meet the demand by consumers. When certain conditions are present. This policy is intended to remain in effect only for the duration of the public health emergency. Another change instituted by FDA is at the agency will shift to temporarily conducting foreign supplier verification program inspections remotely as practical until further notice. Importer subject to remote inspections will be contacted by an FDA investigator who will explain the process for the remote inspection and make written requests for records. In rare situations such as in response to an outbreak of foodborne illness FDA may still choose to conduct an on-site F as VP inspection. Lastly, the US Department of Agriculture, I the inspection services, exercising enforcement discretion for a temporary period to provide labelling flexibilities for products intended for food service, going to retail. There are separate labelling rules for several categories labeling at federal establishment labeling at retail for bulk product, already commerce and labeling at retail for product in unlabeled protective coverings already in commerce. FSIS also notes that these labeling situations apply to product that has already been produced product currently being produced is expected to meet all requirements. I think. What's really interesting about this last? One with the labeling is when you're shifting the supply chain in this manner, your lengthening chain, and so certain products that have a certain shelf life might be at almost the end of the shelf life by the time against retail, so we need folks to be aware of that as well. It was interesting to go to the store recently and I was looking for some soup. The delay in it, but instead of a small container that you know I could consume. There was a bag of soup. It was like well I. Guess for a family of whatever number that would be great, but for small groups such as my own. A little bit too much soup, but I was happy to see that stuff making it through the supply chain and know being used. Due to the corona virus pandemic, many industry trade shows have been postponed or we'll take place online..
