Explosive found in bag at Pennsylvania airport, man arrested
"There's a hearing today in a Pennsylvania courtroom for the man charged with checking a suitcase that had explosive materials inside. 40 year old Mark muffley is facing federal charges after he allegedly hid explosives material inside a suitcase that he had checked as baggage for a flight to Orlando, Florida. During a security screening Monday at Lehigh valley international airport. Agents found the materials, believed to include flash powder used in fireworks, a can of butane, a lighter, a wick, and other items considered susceptible to igniting in flight, posing significant risk to the plane and passengers. Authorities page monthly over the airport public address system and soon after, he was spotted on surveillance video, leaving the airport. He was arrested by the FBI, which tracked monthly to a home in lansford, Pennsylvania. I'm Jackie Quinn.

"And at that point, yeah. You know, I was like, you don't get a prize because you got my mother pregnant. You know? What was his mom like? His mother was. Very, very neurotic. There was a lot of covert incest that was there too. And my dad was the recipient. Was the recipient? Yeah, even though he had two older brothers. There was a lot of violence in his childhood. My father's older, so he was drafted in the Vietnam War. He was actually volunteered for the draft by his own father. Yeah, so a lot of a lot of trauma. For sure. So you said, don't touch me. And he freaked out. And then it was a series of back and forth kind of like threats of like, okay, if you can not stop doing this, I'm going to have no choice but to terminate my relationship with you. And how did you get to the point where you stood up for yourself? Did you come about that on your own where you in therapy? I was in therapy. I was going to say, because was it even on your radar that that's something you should stand up for yourself about? Not at all. For me, either. Yeah. Not at all. I actually thought it was normal, I went to college and thought that, you know, if you're not an orthodox Jew, like my sisters are, then you either have a mother like my mother or a father like my father. I just thought that that was the relationship that every daughter had with their dad, which sounds crazy. But it wasn't until I went to college. And what did you see that illuminated? In particular, I had a friend and at this point we were 21 and her dad took us all on a wine tour. I went to college in Pennsylvania, so there's like this wine popular area where they have a lot of wineries in the Lehigh valley in Pennsylvania and her dad took us all around. He was the designated driver and he was like really caring and nurturing. And he didn't say anything that was off color or embarrassing. He didn't humiliate her. He was just really really great. And I remember feeling so happy for her. Like, wow, this is amazing. She is an awesome dad. But then there was that lingering feeling of like, my dad would never do that. Not only would my dad never do that, but I would never ask him to do that because he would be too much of a liability. He would say something, some comment about one of my friends breasts or, you know, one of the people that worked there. It wouldn't be worth it for me to ask my dad to do something like that. Even if he did say yes, there would be consequences. I remember bringing college friends home and my mom after they would leave would, you know, say, oh, that one is so attractive. Oh my gosh. You know, it didn't strike me as inappropriate at the time. But I just remember, you just, you just kind of shut down. It's like you ignore it. You just hope that's the end of it. Yeah, yeah, you get like this queasy feeling for me, it was like this icky feeling that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Because my father would, you know, he would insult me on the one hand. But then he would also, in the same breath, would say, you're so beautiful. You know you're going to have guys lined up at your door when you're older. You know, and he would say things that made me feel like he was really putting me on a pedestal. Right. Sometimes he would even use words like hot. Oh man. I remember him telling me I was sexy when I was 8 years old. Oh, my God. And I remember feeling like, I don't know any of what this means, but I don't like it. Yeah. So how did your struggle with addiction begin to present itself? I think I was always an addict for sure. I think that my drug of choice took on different forms, but, you know, throughout my life, but certainly when I was a child, my first drug was fantasy. I can remember being in fantasy from the age of three because I just didn't want to be where I was. What kind of fantasies? It was always like a very Disney movie being rescued by the white night kind of a thing. But at the same time, I had a lot of exposure to sex and violence because my father would show me rated R movies, the first movie that I remember watching with him when I was like 5 years old was Pulp Fiction. And like I remember I would act out the scenes from that movie with my barbies. Stab it with a needle. Yeah, with the EpiPen in the heart, yeah, or like the cocaine overdose. Or we used to watch this one show together called cops. That was like a reality TV show. And so I knew what all of that stuff was. I knew what sex and violence was. Couple that with the fact that my mom is a gynecologist. So I also have this like incredibly. Advanced knowledge of female reproductive system from the time that I was a child. And I remember when I would go to her office, I would pretend that the ultrasound, like the transvaginal ultrasound probe was a microphone and would sing Madonna songs. That was fantastic. Yeah, yeah. So I was just like always in fantasy. And then once I became a teenager, I started drinking and very quickly learned that my body does not tolerate alcohol. So marijuana became my drug of choice for a very long time, off and on, but I just had this relationship with marijuana that it seemed like nobody else I knew.

American Airlines is the latest carrier to contract, landline for connecting flights operated with buses. The move comes as U.S. airlines face the concurrent challenges from the pilot shortage, primarily hitting regional operators, and elevated fuel prices that together have forced many airlines to fly less than they would prefer. Landline, I guess that's the proper name of the company. We'll connect Americans, Philadelphia hub, to Lehigh valley airport near Allentown, Pennsylvania, and the airport in Atlantic City, New Jersey, beginning June 3rd. The destinations are 70 miles and 56 miles, respectively, distant from the Philadelphia airport, according to Google Maps. And while Atlantic City is a new addition to the Fort Worth, Texas, carriers map, it serves Allentown with planes, from several of its other hubs and flew Philadelphia, Allentown until suspending the route early in the pandemic in May of 2020. The partnership is similar to one's landline has with sun country airlines and Minneapolis St. Paul, and United Airlines in Denver. Buses will be painted in an American livery. Tickets will be sold exclusively by the airline as its own flights and bags will be transferred between buses and planes as with any connecting flight. But the new American pact takes the tie up one step further, pending approvals, travelers will clear security and Allentown and Atlantic City and arrive airside at a yet to be determined gait in Philadelphia. American vice president of network planning, Brian. In a statement described the partnership as one more way for travelers to connect to the airlines flights in Philadelphia. At a high level, that's what landline does. It gives airlines another tool to expand their networks to destinations near their hubs. Buses make some routes economically feasible that are not with a plane, for example, American predecessor, U.S. airways served Atlantic City nonstop from Philadelphia on and off until 2003. The route is unlikely to be considered today with the poor fuel economics of 50 seat regional jets. The smallest in America's Americans regional fleet and proximity of the city to Philadelphia. So okay, so it goes on a little bit more the rest of it will be in the show notes. But that's an interesting thing regarding the security aspect. A few clear security in one of the locations and then you can just kind of buzz right onto the airport, the airside in the bus. Right in front of the airline airliner. I'm wondering, yeah, yeah. Good point, Liz, do they seal the doors on the bus? I mean, what's going to stop in the Windows? What's going to stop? I just don't know how they maintain that security on the bus. When you're traveling the normal routes that a bus must take from city to city, that's an interesting idea. That's right. Because normally other checkpoint when a basket moves on the website, it's not just the passengers on the bus who all have to get off and go through scanners. This is other airports. But the bus has to undergo a search as well. To make sure that someone has secreted something on the bus that would be useful to a terrorist. So how you can do a 70 mile journey through countryside and then pitch up and drive straight onto the airport. It seems a little bit odd. I'm not sure the TSA would be very happy about that. I don't think they would be. Apart from that, if I was a passenger and I booked a flight, I had to climb on a bloody buzz. I didn't think I'd be very impressed. I wonder how clear it's going to be made to the potential customer that, oh, by the way, you're going to be on a bus from Allentown to Philadelphia. Yeah, just because you've painted it in the airline colors. It doesn't fool me. It won't have wings. Oh, come on. You can feel some people though. I'm sure. Some people, some of the time, yeah. But I mean, I can understand why they're doing it. If it's only a 56 mile journey or something, and a bus would be much more efficient and simpler. Then, yeah, why not? "This is wet notes here on scuba shack radio for monday august thirtieth two thousand and twenty one. Well we have certainly had our fill of extreme weather lately just last week here. In connecticut we face the challenges of tropical storm on re just barely below hurricane strength and at the last minute it shifted east and we avoided the brunt of the wind rhode island wasn't as fortunate and now we have item a cat for hurricane hit louisiana. Extreme weather is now the norm. The news keeps getting worse. Recently there was a study published by nicholas bars from the potsdam institute for climate impact research and that was that the gulfstream could be varying towards irreversible collapse. Now the gulf stream is part of the atlantic meridional overturning circulation or a. m. Oc this circulation takes warm salty. Water from the tropics moves in north and then takes the cold water south. The study finds that the circulation is at its weakest in one thousand years. So what happens if the gulfstream collapses that will dictate extreme cold for parts of north america and europe. Is the collapse imminent well. That's not an easy question. Answer it could be decades away but as we have seen things are happening a lot faster when it comes to climate change not only will the disruption of the gulfstream resort in colder north american temperatures. It is predicted that there will be a rise in sea level disruption of the monsoon patterns and impacts on the amazon rainforest. An aunt arctic ice sheets. The study concluded that is that this is all a result of human endorse induced climate. Change in may of this year. I talked about a project out on lake. Tahoe called cleanup lake. That project had an ambitious goal of cleaning over seventy two miles of the mountain lake. So i thought i would give it a quick update on how the work is progressing. Now these numbers come from the cleanup delake website. Cleanup delete dot org as earlier this month. Team of divers has removed an amazing eight thousand. One hundred and twenty two pounds of trash were three hundred and three thousand six hundred eighty four kilograms and covered about twenty two miles or thirty four kilometers of coastline. There update indicated that they have completed seventy four dives over twenty seven days of diving. The diver's consumed two hundred and eighty six cylinders of air. Today there have been eighty one volunteers who have delivered two thousand six hundred and eleven volunteer hours. Now i'm not sure if they're on pace to meet their objectives but that's not always the measure success. The amount of continuing effort is what really counts. Keep up the good work guys. The annual boston sea rovers clinic for this year is just one month away. The two thousand twenty clinic happened just a couple of weeks. Before the corona corona virus lockdowns took effect. We really didn't know how serious things were then. Now as we continue to emerge from the pandemic the show may just have the distinction of being the last face to face.
