"Folks I'm talking to the author, Lawrence lemur, the author of capote's women, a fascinating book, detailing the extraordinary and strange relationships that this, I don't know what you call him. This man child, this genius, Truman Capote had with all of these wealthy society, women in the 50s and the 60s. I was asking you in 1976 when he finally allows esquire to publish something, maybe to keep the publisher at bay who paid him this big advance. That all of these women knew who they were portrayed in this excerpt and they all felt betrayed. Did any of them remain friends with him? Yeah, I mean, Lee Roswell stayed friends with him and CZ guest because he didn't send a negative about them in the excerpt. But his life sort of fell apart after this. It's like he cashed in his chips by publishing this thing. He groomed all of these women, groomed these relationships, and then suddenly decides to betray them. Do you think was he a deeply mean spirited person to do something like this? It seems cruel to me to have people who are confiding in you and then to betray them publicly in this way. He was an egomaniac. He was incredibly charming, but he lived an isolated life by himself in a real sense. He was friendless. So yes, he's God. So why not betray these women? There was Friends forever. And he didn't understand why they were so upset. And I think they were right to be upset. Some of his some of Truman's Friends, oh, they deserve it. They were just as rich worthless women. I don't feel that way at all. I think it was a terrible thing to do. He died in 1984. He was somebody that you could see at Studio 54. He always seemed to be making the scene, so to speak. He seemed to cultivate his public image, probably infinitely more than he cultivated an actual personal inner life. And it seems to have destroyed him. He was actually quite young when he died, wasn't he? His 59. Yeah, 59. Tell us some of the stories in this book. First of all, why would you write it with a title capote's women? In other words, why not simply write about Truman Capote and have the stories of these women be incidental to it? What made you want to focus on the women themselves? Because he wanted to write this masterpiece. This is going to be his master degree. So people would forget in cold blood or breakfast at Tiffany's. This is a book that would live forever. So as an author, I'm just fascinated by somebody that has that ambition. And what happens with it? And this is a guy with brilliant instincts in literary instincts. There is a he knew there was a great story to be told about these women. I mean, I tell it, I'm getting fabulous reviews. I don't tell it the way Truman would tell the feed been able to do it. But it's a fantastic story. There's no question

How long have you had? The Lee Reds will account? Well, here's here's okay. The second version. It was originally Atley Rats. Well, but at that point, she was alive. Okay, Mom created some problems on like the Real Housewives of New York when Carol drying her daughter, Emma, right, Like, so I ended up getting shut down. Wife, Luann Look, soundlessly lands Paula's and she was like quoting my tweets of evidence in like her blog's Virginia. Oh, my God course. Yeah! Made a bit of a splash. So that got to the real Lee and then we had to take it down. And then she passed away a couple years ago or longer going on two years, two years. Okay, stop. Without plane. I was just kind of let him sleep. E have creative license again, Right? And it really is. I mean, how would you describe your Twitter account? I just have to check check you every day because I'm like, What is Lee musing about today? Because I love how you think Uh, I mean, part of a school humor, but part of it is this historical, Um, I I have a very good on focused in American politics and kind of actually really do appreciate the planet. He's from the booby, A's and that sort of thing, But I like to imagine her in that world. In pop culture terms, But as a real housewife, you know the things like that. So it's just dynasty uses everything to be, um, seems like a fashion icon. I could make a smart remark about a designer like Real housewives get into a stewed with the reality. Whatever I'm feeling that day. Have you gotten into a feud with reality stars with your account? You have who? Oh, yeah. I mean, there was obviously I like I said Carol rounds well, Wasn't amused by me along God Guns. Wilson from Orange County. Yeah. A lot of them. They go and they are. Some know on the flip side of it, some of it and like I'm friends with some of the real I live in our way on. Um I'm friendly with some of the real housewives and those kind of always been around that field. I'm selling the other love me of a hate me. Yeah, well, we weigh love you and I always we always have guy. I've always was fascinated with Lee and Jackie and every everything about that. Anyone who's read Vanity Fair for You know, even a few years, the stories they don't get old. We kind of go back toe seem what they what those ladies were all about. And just their whole sisterhood and everything. And I guess, um You know, I don't know. I guess I like how you kind of, um take like you do the life lessons with Li like guest houses or for pot smoking teens and old exercise equipment. I like my billions with a B like that. So like I want to say that now I wanna walk around saying Jordan, are you a writer? I mean, what I do you have podcasting. What do you do living okay? Home, Examine the podcast, Keep kicking and kibitz. Um, recover. Bravo housewives, that sort of thing. I do some writing. I have a day job to you. I worked at U C l a on the water. Um Go ahead. Oh, why This is gonna ask you about Kiki and kibitz? Because I am intrigued How much you seem to know about the scandalous divorce of air Could Jane and tapped your party? Holy crap. I know that is mind blowing because it's so many levels to it. It's not just like a housewife behave badly. I mean, He was Tom arrived and was one of the most prominent respected lawyers in the country. And this goes beyond like which Teresa do you Dyson stuff? I mean, it was shady construction deals. Defrauded banks. These people were stealing from plane crash victims to fund a life with private chats. Yeah, it's appalling. Well, it was a plot in revenge. Yes. Up. There really was stealing money from the crash victims was a plot on revenge. And the thing that I find interesting is that Erica Jane this season of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Well, two years in a row. She's been disappointing. I hated how she got in the Lisa Vanderpump doggie doggie. Whatever that thing, and I hated. Would it be odd she was to Denise Richards. And she was so quiet about everything. I thought what is going on? And we didn't see her making any records or videos this year and that one weird party at Comes house and he told the story of meeting John Wayne. And I remember thinking, How old is this guy? I know. I know. Like grandpa rambling on like we party. Could you go to bed? Yeah. E mean, I felt they were together, You know, married like 22 years. I mean, did do they have separate lifestyles? Is she dating Scooter Braun, and she did all dragged all the receipts about his Mistresses is all of that true. Yeah, well as far as the arrangement of their marriage, I think that is true. It was an arrangement. I mean, obviously she's much older and much shorter than her very hey was respected like In circles beyond celebrity on I mean, he did offer her a very nice lifestyle and the what? Really points to points to me that it wasn't arrangement, though, is What was the last weekend when she made waves by posting pictures. Of, um Screenshots of his tweets with the mistress of Judge Does tweets. People are able to figure out by the dates and what they fell on. Those were from either 2016 or 2011 0 people. Yeah, People are saying 2011 or what? So she's been involved in this for years and what she's not blind sided by what's going on. She was happily in that arranged marriage and you can listen examine did she filed for divorce because he told her to because the bleep was hitting the fan, and she was gonna be I mean, do you think he was hurt? You know, like helping her with that That's I'm not sure about because that would make sense. Um, I understand. People said she did it so that they could move assets around and protect him on that. Made sense when that first came out, but now finding out he may have no money. Um I don't know where to go with that, like, Let's see. I'm trying to picture like, how is she going toe? Run her life. She was So over the top, and I mean, it's nice to be a real house slightly broader, doesn't pay you millions and millions. Yeah, well, she Yeah, You're right about that, And she's done so much humble, breaking about money and stuff. I wonder if Denise Richards and Lisa Vanderpump or both. Sipping their tea. Nice and slowly, they are. This is Sheila. That's something about Erica. Which is why I think people enjoy this story. Is she one of their very nice She wasn't calm ball so and she was so flashy. So to have this come around someone like her. Is its karma. People enjoy. Yeah, it was her whole personality. She wasn't even warm are nice. I mean, so when you're relying on that, being your whole personality, Well, Julia and I met her at Craig's last year, We were all for the segue words and she was eating with Lisa Rinna and Brad Gretzky and we've met Lisa on the red carpet. And we just like we don't care. We just went up. Said Hi, door and I mean, she was like frosty waves of this. Just this like for the fact that we you know, came over to say hello And it wasn't until I said, Well, they should do re do fashion police. Brad and you should definitely have Eric on the panel. I was just being a totaled suck up. That didn't mean it. And then I finally got a smile..

really going to be helpful for people okay how many times have you tried to make a decision and you've got to real different ways that you can go or three different ways you can go or maybe you've got four different ways it is a site a lot of time okay guess what if it is a global I have this all the time she got a wire Mexico should I go to Paris or Italy well I don't know about that I'm talking about comes complex decisions I don't think vacation decision making plaques but if you have a complex decision this study of does says narrow your choices down to two but if you have something that's complex it's overwhelming you this is good advice to give some people are naturally decisive okay and they will always just go with what they're got but sometimes you do have something to do the pros in the county make the list or whatever and so this study this was at a it was published in the nature of human behavior are you still reading that one Julia two times a year it's chock full of good say using good information but so many SMBs Canada well that's where it is a study of Deborah if you are struggling with something and you have multiple options or it just seems kind of like it's too big of a decision and you feel overwhelmed about doing that if you narrow your choices down to the two most promising options that will help you make your decision as quickly as possible and they did this study the researchers noticed said so many people second guess themselves or they can't make up their mind and so they discovered that most people who aren't spreading their attention our over three or four or five things if they just focused on the two most appealing choices they trusted their response and what they chose over something else the two most appealing things that make the most sense like down there it sounds very like right it is it's a clear remember AB it's good because I know people that feel overwhelmed and I always tell them to make a last what can we do right now what do we have control over what don't we have control may make a list now of what are the two most appealing ways that you could solve this problem that's too difficult for a lot of people okay that's too overwhelming okay but just try and narrow it down yeah what would you think if anyway according to the study I think we should be psychiatrists that we basically are I really am yeah all that is "And Julia did all week episode ever best if the week Saturday, one seven one. There was a scandal. Scout the scout. Okay. Well, listen, people apparently there is no end to the appetite on the Kennedys. Okay. That is why the books keep getting being written and the very prolific celebrity biographer, j Randy Tabarelli Tara Tara Borelli has another book coming out, June eleven k, which is basically about the third generation of the Kennedy clan, which is the kids of all Vavi, and yet, John, the president, and Ted and all twenty nine kids and j Randy has done. He did a becoming beyond say he did a book on the Hiltons the secret life of Marilyn Monroe Elizabeth Taylor. He's done to other Kennedy books, one on Jackie Janet Leigh and one about after Camelot. And so this book is called the Kennedy airs, okay? And basically. No scandal or luxuriance dining room goes overlooked in this book, according to Qurqus reviews adore, stop of melodrama Cal. Kennedy diehards will love it. Fantastic. One of the things that's getting a lot of attention in the book is a note until June eleven is that the story book romance of John F Kennedy jR, and Caroline beset wasn't true. Well, it wasn't that it wasn't true. It was first of all that Caroline and John very much believed that, if they an even several of John's friends have verified this to j Randy after they got married in nineteen ninety six they thought people wouldn't be interested in their story. They thought the people were going to be interested in. The wedding. They if they could put up put the wedding of being private, and then do something with people magazine, their marriage would just be of no interest in people were just kind of fade away, because he wouldn't be a bachelor anymore. He's off the market. She's off the market. They're just going to be private citizens, not going to be a big deal. However, the private wedding only seemed to make the press even. Yes. And they loved each other very much. But their struggles it all came down to because he met her. She was Calvin Klein fashion joblessness in the mid nineties, and he told the friend, you know, how when you hear about meeting girl in knowing instantly, she's the one it happened to me. He told several friends among she was not really that interested in him. She knew he was kind of a playboy. And but then once he talked her into going out on a date. He just completely blew her way with term his charm and how warm he was. And just like they like fell hard and fast. And he wanted her to know him as just who he was don't think of me as the son of the president, and during her very first visit the Hyannis Port family compound, F O Kennedy, who. Because quite a bit, you know, Bobby Kennedy's. Choke. She asked her about current events at the dinner table. And j Randy Tara Borelli writes, that F O Kennedy says to Caroline beset. So do you think of federal assault weapons ban will impact crime in our country? Dear. How mean is that, okay? Asset. Ethel was known for being intimidating and stern. And she liked her cocktails Caroline, look stunned. And she said, I, I, I think it will. And then ethelson I'm sure you do dear. You may want to read up on it. It's quite important just from that very first family dinner tone. Caroline is like I don't know if I'm gonna fit in in John did not realize how hard it was for his wife to adjust to the spotlight. Remember? His whole life, -actly, his whole life, and g Lady, Diana. She felt what do you mean? Give me Justice spotlight. She was a private citizen. Yes. The out. It's not easy. She felt hunted by the paparazzi again. That is something Princess Diana would say, and quoting an unnamed friend of John F. Kennedy juniors. Tara Borelli describes a seamer night at their apartment at the end of a stressful week dealing with the press. He the friend marked in just in time to see Caroline doing a line of coke from the coffee table. And John looked at his friend. He sat down in the friend did align. He said it's been a real bad week around here. And you know, it's the nineties and the friend said, John Hannan Caroline slap, and she tenderly served his hair, and they were just so peaceful together, Jay Randy Tara Borelli, who's written a book. The Kennedy also to John's friend John Perry Barlow who spoke on record, and John Perry. Barlow is the Grateful Dead lyricist, who died last year, and he said, you know, John was just a recreational user, right? They used to like to go on a little acid in ecstasy trips together in nature and blah, blah, blah. And John just thought of his wages for him to experience life differently like in nature and being in a safe environment. And this was the nineties, and that is something that, you know, people did party and do and but okay, so the stress really came between he always had a hard time from day, one with that. That's just the they're always paparazzi after Soviet permanent. But. His John's cousin, Anthony Radziwill son of Lee Radziwill. Carol reds vote from the new year causeway. He's dying of cancer. He's like thirty nine years old. And you. People told the author of this book, you can't overestimate, the impact Anthony's illness had John their cousin brothers. Yeah. Because they're one year apart and they've literally grown up their whole life together, and it affected John deeply and his feelings of despair about what was happening to his cousin, and they had a relationship known could get in the middle of, in curling was having a hard time, accessing John and trying to be able to help him with his grief and to him. It's just probably think about it being a guy, you know closed down. And then I guess, at one point in nineteen ninety eight two years into the marriage Caroline reconnected with an old friend, an old boyfriend waiting this terribly. She went to apartment for conversation. It ended with the kiss. He pulled away and said, no, I can't be here. Right now. And it was after that she would home told John, what happened and two days later, the framework up at two in the morning. Avoi- said this is the police we've got a warrant. He opens the door. It's John F Kennedy junior John swings at him and said, stay away for my bleep and wife. That's how he got into that apartment. That's. Brilliant, great. All right. And then he and Caroline went into counseling, okay? But she told him right away. And like within by that April they were in couples counseling, and they both wanted to fix the marriage. There is all this grief about the cousin Don. John, didn't wanna be Kennedy man who ended up not carrying about how his wife feels when they were invited to the wedding of Kennedy. The youngest daughter of Bobby Kennedy in July of nineteen. Ninety nine Caroline said I don't wanna go. I'm not up to being around your family. Anthony's very, very sick. You know, he's not going to be there. I'm just not up to it, and then she changed her mind because he had counseling session. He said it would mean so much to me, if you'd be with the family, invite your sister to come along. So you have not just my family twins. No. But they were like a year. Two apart. And then, of course, on that July sixteenth nineteen ninety nine the plane piloted by John crashed off the waters off of Martha's Vineyard killing all three. It'll be twenty years, but they were working on the relationship and they thought that all the time in the world of figuring out and they were madly in love. And they didn't. They felt like they'd be able to. But it was that the paparazzi and the grief over his cousin brother Anthony, that was really. And also he was losing George magazine. Right. Couldn't figure that it was just advertising wasn't there in publishing was. And so they, they their love for each other was undeniable, but it was just really really difficult for her. They literally couldn't go anywhere. And the paparazzi were at their apartment every single day, every day, every day. Anyway. But it's if you're interested in the Kennedys, the book, June eleventh is called the Kennedy is by j Randy. Terra borelli. Okay. You can't.

"Say that song is growing on? Area. Okay. Just they wanna finish a couple of things about the Jackie Kennedy. And her sister Lee Radziwill us, but really Lee Radziwill did grow up to have the life that her mom wanted her to have which was I mean, she tried acting. She was in a thing in Chicago once and it was a terrible. A a new star is not born. It was the Philadelphia story for four weeks. She dabbled in that. Yeah. She was married. Three times. You know, she just had two children, bright and. Her son Anthony died a couple of months after his cousin JFK junior died, and he was married to Carole Radziwill from the Royal house faces and then she has a daughter, and but anyway, Jackie Kennedy. I'd forgotten about this. I don't think it scandalous at all. But over the years, it does does pop up because people forget they were such. They were like America's royalty. They totally were knows. Fascinating thing. And Jackie in her will gave Anthony and Tina each five hundred thousand dollars in her will and Anthony died in. May of nineteen ninety four. I forget when Jackie died company a couple years before that. Okay. Okay. Because she died before her son died, and yes, she she never wanted him to do that play. But and in her will she just wrote to her sister Lee for Lee for whom I have great affection. Because I've already done. So during my lifetime, she left nothing and people were like, always that scandalous. And the thought was that she had to have been aware of what she's doing right? Rain on rated that way of all the people. Jackie knew anything. She put in writing was going to end up in the public domain. And that is because Jackie helped her sister out over the years. Yeah. Here and there she was married to the Hollywood producer harass. But that's what I take. I mean do too. I don't take it as anything bad. No. I know there when when when you know, Jackie wasn't flat out rich when the president was assassinated was basically living on allowance from the Kennedy family, but when she married Aerostat Onassis, he married him. And she told the foreign you ever safer security and safety because they're killing the Kennedys and the outcome and your and your project my camp, and he was a womanizer and he wanted her because he thought she was like one of the most she wasn't honest answer. Most famous woman. And she was glamorous and beautiful and French and she rode horses. And he's probably didn't know that. He's interested in the arts. She was interested in all the things he he'd never gave up Maria Callas the opera singer. Yeah, he always she was always Parisian sides us. Remember that? He didn't. Yeah. He didn't. So, but they grew to despise each other after the death of Aristotle's son Alexander Onassis died in a plane crash. And he kind of with maybe creek superstition blamed her of being some kind of age of death. Yeah. Fan wherever she went. I mean, this is the story. Right. Doesn't know. And when he died Jackie his daughter, Christina about all that money, but Christina just gave her I think she gave her like at twenty five million dollar cash settlement offer to walk away. She took it she moved to New York. She invested. She became a job. She was like Murphy Brown before Murphy Brown. Went onto live with their Parisian Manhattan apartment. I think Jackie helped her out here. And there whenever she needs. It. You know what I mean? Upset if your sister left you out of a will. Okay. Her had much money. And I did. Yeah. Oh, you would. Okay. If my sister had so much money sister, always like like, she bought you your PIN tear in Manhattan, that'd be fine. No. Then would you be mad? No, okay. But I mean. Go to the kids. But if there's just so much why not throw a little through a little something to your dad has always been one of the things that have left to perfectly arched eyebrow. Among some of the New York and aristocratic people about that. It comes up periodically. Yes. He could have given Lee more than that amount through the years. Well out again. Wording old Lee is Ben is exploiting great affection because I've already done. So during my lifetime that the wording is everything she doled out loud, some money for re and also added for reasons, which are well known to them. Sure. K yeah. No that was in Joan Crawford's when she disinherited her two kids that was in the Joan Crawford will for reasons that are known to them. Joan Crawford members. She yes daughter. Christina. I want to look up Christina on. Onassis where she she died. Julia and stabby daughter, just she's still dating the horse manager. Visit. Hi. Right way. Twelve we're going to check on next week. Or maybe even Morrow for tonight and Kurt Cobain would have been fifty two years old today guys. So we we still have Sidney.

"They're like this woman is known for her sister. But not she was not as successful as her sister. And then later says it just gets worse. Worse like Jackie. She had cultivated passions for painting music dance and poetry. She made several attempts for professional recognition, but achieved only pale reflections of the spotlight on her sister. Unbelievable. Oh, my she tried to be an actress she was in a play. And Chicago Tribune said a new star is not born. I like this one the reviews were not kind a stunning clothes horse upon whom. No discernible desperate demands were made wrote jet cool television critic for the New York Times variety intoned, quote, she is just not an actress ever heard Brian say, she is just not an actress that is Chrissy. She is like woman. I don't I almost I almost want to solicit people to call in. And maybe a brief explainer about why she had this reputation. You know, you gotta read this Daily Mail piece really goes into it. Okay. I mean, it's not nice to be like upon her death. We're like this woman. But she had an incredible who journey. I mean, she was dating this guy married to this guy and this Daily Mail headline in the Daily Mail piece. The headline is how jealous sisters Lee Radziwill and Jackie O competed to snare, the world's richest men as world mourns younger, socialites death. And it kind of goes through the history of you know. Jackie and Lee making their way through the world. They had influence from their mother to go after wealthy men. They were definite. Socialites I mean. They were living their best lives their best New York City lives. No, I'm reading the comments. And it's like, the how dare you slander this woman and her it's it's half. How dare you slam to this woman in half? Like Lee was hotter than Jackie like fuck. Jackie. We we Stanley. It's very weird. I feel like ice Stanley over Jackie. I think I I'm team. No one here. I stand. I stand little and big eighty movies. Seems fun is what I'm saying. Oh, yeah. I mean, obviously eat eighties forever over these two. But if only eighty were still alive, like give us the t eighty I mean, t is not the most reliable Turkey. You're like, wait. What is this t? It kind of feels like the ultimate had bitch charge. The Kris Jenner of her time is their mother Janet like she seems in this article. She seems like she's the one like girls Jenna booby. Pull up your girdles, or whatever you would say if you were Kris Jenner, and the, you know, back then in the sixties or whatever anyways. Okay, Janna movie. I love history moment. It's like we're like that podcast about the history. It you must remember where like you must remember this but terrible at our jobs until a little bit about. No. We love we love to go back in time for some vintage shoes. What's worse at a dinner party sitting next to a snob or four? I should wore. Because it's not at least has personality. And because you might have a laugh, right? Yeah. Especially that Bobby who's now a big fan. I don't know if you saw that said and the chain smokers were jet skiing and wake boarding in the Cayman Islands without you. I'm really upset that I I'm really upset that I wasn't invited east Stanford. They could have kept one chain smoker home, and then had me take his place. No one would have no good chain smoker. Zek it would have been so fun even said chedda one chain smoker and Bobby finger go jet skiing and wake for you would not go jet skiing and wake board. It would be it'd be Zad one chain smoker and podcast or go wake boarding at Kaba came and the photos would be one chain smoker. Wake boarding Zet wake boarding like me in a beach town completely obscured by the shadows. I would see it as you getting pulled in a little raft you're in a beach ten but you're on a raft behind a boat getting pulled. I love my friends. "Then she starts getting Instagram messages from random followers, who are like, oh, you don't even know the half of it. The guy that maranda Lambert married. I was engaged to him last July, and then he dumped me and then got another woman pregnant, and they had a baby in November. So you do some quick googling. His name is Brendan McLaughlin. Sure enough, dude. And this woman in Kyle retina, not that it matters. Had a baby on November tenth or at least. That was the due date. You can look at the registry. It's also align that woman, by the way is not maranda limber. Okay. We Lino that this Brendan McLaughlin is the same one. Right. We're pretty sure we're pretty sure. Okay. Just because not an unusual name. It's like railroad raised pretty sure that this this guy, you know, gotta woman in Nashville front, even like the kick. That's even the top of the story. So that's part one. That's twist number one. Okay. So he very recently got another woman pregnant, and now he's already married Tomorrowland Randall Lambert, that's weird. And also he was engaged to someone else in the very recent history before getting another one pregnant anyway. So basically, the implication now is at this guy is a serial cheater. Okay. Moving on next part of the story. That's fascinating. Is that busy Phillips gets involved? Busy Phillips gets involved because she's like, wait a second. I recognize the guy that Miranda Lambert got married to because he's hot cop for those youth. Busy Phillips Instagram stories every time she goes to New York. And like does yours in midtown. She sees this hot top this hot NYPD officer and takes a photo of him. She refers to miss hot Cup. We're off Amelia with this. And she's like that's hot Cobb. Oh my God. I wonder if they met at GM. Win ever New York. And I. GM? There is not really hot cop. And I always put him on Instagram stories. Follow me, you know, cop. I'm talking about. Well, guess what? He just married Verana Lambert. Here's my question. Did Miranda Lambert meet the hot cop? Doing GNA outside of TMA. I've only seen him there. Multiple times on my stories. He's a hot. Which is like not even a surprising situat- like that would be reasonable somehow story. Lindsey click the link put him away and clicking. Okay. So the last time we're into Lambert was on good Morning, America. See Annie's unplugged best years of my life country trio also appear on good Morning America to play the sassy got my name changed back by Stephen L bets. The date is November third two thousand eighteen so Miranda was on the Morning America with her band the pistol. He's in novem-. So just which just days before this baby is due. So now, the new allegation by this woman who is in the no. But again, it's speculation speculating is that this was a shotgun wedding. And that he got this. And he got Miranda pregnant back. Then we and so why maranda? Yeah. Florida. Florida explains why they got married so quickly. You think rand is pregnant I'm sort of convinced that she's pregnant, and so she's like, and that means that people were saying that she was probably drunk at this restaurant. She was at she was just fucked up on pregnancy or these are throwing a salad when you're pregnant makes perfect sense. Right. All of this came together at the end of it. And I was texting when I was like I was texting yesterday. It was like, this is my mind, but it's it's hard to convey over Tech's because you're like, you have to see all these pieces, and yeah, we're we're we are just speculating, but like all of these pieces fit together a narrative that makes perfect sense. And is not crazy. Like in a way. This is the simplest explanation. You know, it's it's all comes razor over here. You just got really obvious answer, which is really is is hot cop and an Randa hooked up. She got a she got pregnant. It was like, you know, what he's hot. He's charming. I'm gonna stay with him. He apparently has very potent Houghton sperm Foton com as they would say in the hope. In the moti-. Sorry. I can't believe I've said call that potent dick..

And I read an assortment of suspense romance. Epic couple of epic novels and. It's. Yeah. I love that book. On the top of the New York Times bestseller list for over a year. From a friend three months, but I wanted to read it, and you know, basically a day. Did you love it? I love that book is really good. There's a reason why it's been kind of like. Maybe four years ago. All the light, you cannot see or beautiful room. Right. It's like that. Yeah. It is. It's so good. It was so good the characters in it are wonderful. And that is such a good book. I'm glad you. I know I I was waiting for you to finish out. Yeah. So that was number one very favorite book as you in all my friends that had read it loved it. Then, you know, the book that and I brought it back for you. Julia called next year in Havana. Oh, and it's by Chanel clean, one of the most beautiful covers, okay? And I bought this any that is sort of like the Sonya. I had already read it, you know, it's not it's not historical fiction. But this is the story of many people who fled Castro's Cuba. When Batiste went down. And so it's a story of this wealthy family and how the revolution intersects with their life in the fleet Miami. Okay. And this Chanel cleaton Donny. I think she's got the follow up to this coming out. And this was a recess book club. That was marked up that we never got out the door. But I'm just saying that was a Reese loved the cover isn't that a beautiful place in the you know, like fifties. Oh, and now it goes back and forth between a granddaughter that was just an epic sprawling romantic wonderful that looks fun. Yes. That back for you. Thank you. Then I read, oh, you know? We'd never read that we love Kristin Hannah. Great alone and firefly lane night the Nightingale for that. Yeah. So I picked up I was at Barnes and noble before I went to a Wii, and I just was. Browsing the trade paperback and fiction and winter garden was this book that Kristen wrote in two thousand and ten and it's just it's about these two sisters who their mom has always been called to them. They know that she grew up in Russia and met their dad at the end of World War Two, but they don't know the rest of her story, and she's very cold and distance and Meredith is the one who stays home and takes over the family business, and then Nina's the one who's like a traveling war photographer. Oh, and that was also a very good epic romantic family saga. Gosh. She's a good writer. I just don't think you can go wrong. I think Hildebrand you read any other books that I also read this book Donohue may have read read at Manhattan beach, Jennifer Egan. Yeah. Jennifer egan. I've heard of it it's so this one is it takes place like in the depression era in New York and going into World War, no really starts in the depression era. But it's really going into this young woman. Her mom something. I don't wanna see everything coincides with the starting of World War Two in all the women who are working in the Brooklyn navy yard. And she wants to be a navy diver. And the she's like they found that the women making all these small parts for guns and. That other other board that other books tiny. Anyway. So it was this one all kinds of awards. It was it came out. She wrote a visit from the goon squad. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That was that was really quite a good book. Okay. And story kind of an epic again a woman that my scary book was winner people. Jeez. Louise, I think it's going to be a movie very Stephen King. Oh, yeah. It's called the winner people and it's west hall, Vermont. And it's always been this town of strange disappearances. It already wasn't movie. Oh, was it with Kurt Russell and Kelly McGillis? Oh, nineteen nine all. Okay. Yeah. Because this book came out like in. Oh, I recognize that. Anyway, was scary Stephen King and anyways, somebody discovers the secret to waking the dead. Oh, lovely. But of course, just like pet cemetery. They never come back the same. Okay. So winner people that was the scary book. Another suspense thriller. Was this book by Linwood Barclay called no time for goodbye. He's the guy who wrote wrote the noise downstairs. Oh, that's suspense bo-. Yeah. Yeah. We just had him mind. Yeah. So no time for goodbye was like his first. Oh work, and you give it a thumbs up. Oh, yeah. Very much. So is this if you like suspense thrillers? That's a good book. And then another one I read was you will know me by Meg Abbott, and she's written all kinds of. She does psychological thrillers with. Okay. Okay. So I have. Yes. You will know me. What is what was I don't know that this would have caught my attention. If not for the crazy stunt that PayLess pulled me weeks right in December talks about that. And it made huge headlines because it was so this was where PayLess opened a pop up shop called policy. Yeah. And invited a bunch of the influencers and had what we're actually PayLess shoes for twenty bucks. But asked the influencers, you know, to speculate what they thought they were worth and moat many of these Instagram. They said they would pay upwards of six hundred fifty dollars for these shoes, and we're going on and the whole idea was that PayLess was going to do an ad campaign with all of these fancy fashion people saying like, oh, I love this. I love this. And then. The whole thing right? Right. I found the most interesting. This was an article that I was reading in fast company, and they attributed it too fast fashion, dine off, and I thought that was interesting that they think this is just one more sign that there's a shift in consumer behavior because according to them, and they say people are moving away from poorly made inexpensive fashion items that for decades people have gone to h and forever twenty one and all of these clothes that they could wear a few times and then get rid of them and not worry about it. But according to fast company, they say the fast fashion brands are on a decline, and that PayLess would be one of those. I mean, this has been a discussion for a while now, and I don't know that the idea of affordable fashion is going away. But I think that it's got to have a really strong brand position. I just read another article I'm trying to think where did we have this on our schedule this week to talk about why Zara is doing so much better than H and M right now. No, we've where did I read that? I don't know it up. No, I. Tonight. I read it I read it. But it was just talking about like, I mean, all the things that's our does right and making it feel like a real fashion experience, and and really on trend and even ahead of the trend in creating creating an environment and H M kind of being a little more traditional in the way, they do things and it's just not connecting anymore. What they're saying is that consumers are kind of tired of this partially because it's environmentally unsound. And that brands some of the shoe brands like they give the example of all birds in Rossi's are high-quality. They're equal friendly. They're durable in those companies are really thriving right now. So I don't know I I hadn't really thought about that that that these companies are kind of losing favorites. I mean, I just think I mean, gosh PayLess, it's never been a fun experience. It's never been fun to walk in there. I don't remember the last time I was in a paler. I mean, there might actually have been things that you would want. But it's like they weren't doing anything to entice us to go there and that whole stunt. They pulled seems like well, maybe they're going to start doing that. Maybe they're going to show us like look at how things also like we have. I mean. I don't know DSW feels like a more powerful opportunity and has brand name shell that's a whole different. It's a whole. But I think people like that model better. I think the lake I know am I wrong. Tell me correct me. But I think people would rather think they're getting a good deal on brand name merchandise. They sort of know the value as opposed to something else. Hey, here's another thing. I mean target continues to do all of the fashion categories better. Target has some really cute shoes. And I I mean, there are some so many times where I in my office. See people wearing adorable little booties or something. And I ask them where they got it. And it's target. Yeah. So I think that you know, that's a factor too. I don't know. But anyway, yeah. Wasn't that whole advertising stunt that whole thing? Well, maybe. Didn't get the message from the other. So please remind yourselves in all tweeted out on on Monday. But our in our March issue, our branding columnists in this is in twincities business Aaron Keller his March column, which we're gonna push live early. Because of this news this week. Is about the stunt about the policy style. Really? He his take on it as a branding expert. Was it was dumb. I was so surprised because I'm like, oh my gosh. And we were talking about how funny and how ingenious and and it was kind of fun to see the influencers squirm and his take was why was it? What they're this wasn't doing anything to drive people to pay PayLess. It wasn't making it seem more appealing except. I thought the idea was that in a way did 'cause people are seeing that these are really cool shoes. And they look good. And yet, they really are inexpensive. Yes. I'm gonna heat. Exactly. And I'm not saying, this is one opinion of his opinion was that it kind of missed the Mark. And that he actually thought they did themselves in this service by focusing on this price discrepancy, which was so enormous people saying these shoes are worth six hundred and fifty dollars when they sell for twenty that it actually could have the reverse effect in may make people think like, well, how are they selling them this cheap? Who's actually making these shoes where are they coming? Well, and that that goes back to what what fast company saying exactly wanna do that. Exactly. And and we know that the trend is and especially among younger consumers, they care more and more about where things are made how they're made the whole mission of the company a company like PayLess is completely out of step with that for a short time at least didn't Christian Syria. No designed some shoes for PayLess. I'm almost sure he did. You might be right about them. Yeah. I usually that sounds right. Eight to two deaths to note this week one local and one not James Dayton, really lovely tribute to him in the Star Tribune. I mean, he did even more than I realized I mean, I didn't realize that he had worked for Frank Gehry. And some of the projects that he was involved in but locally he he died unexpectedly this week it just fifty three years old. But you know, he designed the bachelor farmer he designed restaurant, all my and Lynn hall in so many spaces in town. He even designed shoes at one point for. I think for Allen. Yes. Just a really a real talent. I he's also on the cover of the new issue of Minneapolis, Saint Paul's home in design magazine. Yeah. Yeah.
