"It was cool to see the fans everybody showed up and we had a blast. So thank you guys for hanging out. Thanks to thereto for hosting us there and would have a good time. So look there's a lot of talk before we get to the free agency part of this conversation with Durant because there's Vegas odds out about who the champ could be next year. And it was an interesting inclusion or addition to those championship odds recently, but with Steph curry, so the discussion I had with John Ireland and Mason in those guys before the show was they were talking about staff, and he's having a tough spot in this series. Look for sure he's shooting thirty something percent. That's very unstaffed like, but if you look at it there's like an overarching narrative out there for years now about Steph even before you played with him that that always just not the same guy in the playoffs. Always average at twenty five in the playoffs and he's averaging twenty five in the regular season. But the difference is pretty much. Everybody's efficiency numbers field goal percentage at three point percentage. Those numbers go down in the playoffs because teams game plan against you. And just everything the intensity is just different in the plant everybody Katie now. But I think we're. Steph. You know, if Steph it's two or three more Shah shots and each game. We're not even talking about this, right? His his numbers or similar? You know, Katie is playing out of his mind right now, you know, proving that he's the best player on the planet currently Draymond playing. Well, this is a luxury that Steph does have, you know, unfortunately, he's not playing are typical Steph curry back ball used to same. But he's not he's not just a a liability out there. I'll say the one thing I get Houston credit for continuing to put stuff in the pick and rolls and he isolating him. And I know that I definitely know that we're in on because it's not some he does all season like they're putting him in the mix every single play. And that wears on you, if you're an athlete or basketball player, you know, later in the game when the you know, you have legs for those shots you typically make norm you might not have them. And then, you know, at the end of the game is a perfect example where he's guarding whole entire game has breakway misses the dump you know, what I mean? So it's just a situation like that. But if you're banking on Steph not playing well the rest of the playoffs for your team to win. It's not a good bet. Yeah. He's he's playing okay. But he's not having those wile moments. Like when the when the warriors up ten and all of a sudden, you Steph hits one from, you know, outside the arena, and all of a sudden, they go up thirteen in arenas going crazy. Those are the moments we see on a regular sees. We don't get those in the postseason games are lot crosser. But now you watch Kevin Durant. Take those, you know jumpers hit knows threes. And to a point you like, I do I don't know how many times I said it the other night. I'm watching saying like that dude too bad. This dude is the best player on the planet right now saying, okay? Well are Steph you'll turn and it's almost to a point where is he holding? Kevin Durant back a little bit because I feel like sometimes K D when he doesn't touch the ball a couple possessions. Madam I come home is due got the hot hand. I know we love Steph. And I know Steph is is the golden child, but it's to a point where like LeBron had to will d Wade had to make way look Gulab Rondo do. And it's to a point where I feel I we want Steph to still be up there. But this is katie's team. You know, what I mean like, I know Steph team in terms of being the captain. But right now, this is Steph squat. I mean, this is Katie Lee, katie's plane out of his mind. You know what I mean? But to me, it only takes one one or two mates for Steph to get back to you know, like him, and clay, you know, they can be down down down and then hit ten or fifteen twelve threes..

"And we're talking face the league wise year six Jaanus is year, six LeBron you're six LeBron. The team won forty five games the previous season that year. They won sixty six. He won his first league MVP last year. Milwaukee bucks. One forty four games there on pace to win sixty two and Jaanus might very well win his first league MVP your six member. Lebron had gotten to the final four two years prior. Right. So he was LeBron came look. Lebron through a lot and LeBron by year two was world's better than honestly, I get that part of it. You're six LeBron twenty eight eight and seven you're six Janas twenty seven thirteen and six and LeBron from I would argue a few seasons prior to his sixty year. But certainly by sixty or the best that universally accepted best player alive and Jaanus is working towards that maybe not universally accepted. But certainly some people are doing the best player alive. I know you have an MVP vote. I said earlier I think this is going to be the closest VP race since Nashes second like him versus harden is going to come down to the wire. And I think Janas getting his team to sixty wins either winning or coming in second in the MVP. That's how you become the face of the league eighties that level of high level production and team success. And the other thing see when it about face the league who else is eligible, so like hardens too, polarizing almost like Ginny people dislike the way Arden plays. Kevin Durant right now seems to me to be. He would need an image makeover, almost I think it's Jaanus or the guy that you think it probably could be in Steph like one of those two guys is going to be the next most forward-facing player in the league in my I think Steph because he has their credentials believe he's also going to have the digital ring this year also him in clay, I expect them over the next several years to put up ungodly tight numbers and do ten years in a row shooting over forty percent from three point range by key. Is the perfect f-? Specially F K D it's set up for Katie Lee, Katie lease. And then he stays there. He's the face of that franchise because I liked the comparison because that's what we have to do in sports. We have to try to take someone out of our past give them someone was someone who is currently. So that the fans can be like yes identify. But we can't take for granted. What Tim Duncan had when he got to San Antonio. He had injured. David Robinson coming back. Yeah. Great prop of it, potentially one. The greatest coaches in the. NBA stabilizes far as a franchise that, you know, someone you know, what we're getting ready to we're getting my start looking at international basketball players. Like, no one's ever thought of start developing them. We're going to put the perfect rosters far as defense shooting. Spacing. Also, you know, what I'm gonna do for you Tim before people do that. I'm going to rest you right before. So he has so many things in Tim Duncan, Tim Duncan. We know with a better player when he came. He came out of college man as the big fundamental. Yep. He had seven or eight post moves then we knew he was going to be a great player. So yeah, I like the factor some similarities small market and all that. But I think the fact that Tim Duncan he did have the fire, but Tim Duncan never once in his career had the desire to be the best player recognizes the best player in the NBA..

What are you covering? You. Are you out here for to cover the huskies? No, I'm here for hoops. And then once it started to filter around that I was there for hoops, all these people started to come over and just say, thank you. They just wanted to say thank you so much for taking the time to come out to Seattle and consider and champion SuperSonics basketball. No problem. And a pleasure is all mine. It was a joy in my life to get to spend time with Kevin and with brianna and to learn more about the Seattle culture and the passion here, and the amazing culture here. Then this one guy comes over Sam rice, so SAM's tuned up pretty good, and he comes over. And he's kind of has the same message Mackey believe you're here. Do thanks so much. It's awesome. Mardi party in Seattle, and my buddy Chad looks at him goes, you know, what you should do. You should give him your jacket. We'll say him head on the absolute coolest green satin nine thousand nine hundred eighty nine ninety original starter jacket. Seattle SuperSonics anybody. That's my remembers that the satin basketball starter jacket. Not the pullover. Parker that we all wanted a couple years later. Those are the ones that I sat in did you have one I had the pullovers with the pocket in the middle that that was a couple of years later. That's more more that's closer to your era in my era. When I was in seventh and eighth grade ninth grade, the satin starter jacket was the hottest item going Sam at first his reaction is befuddled. I mean, he was a little bit bewildered for a moment. And then he goes, you know, what you're right. You're right. I am going to take this jacket. And I was like, no, no, no, no, no, no. Man. I don't want it. I don't want your jacket. Thank you. That's hilarious. No. And he goes now, man, I insist and I kind of look over Chad. Or CHAD'S looking at me with his grin on his face. I was like Sam I'm not taking your jacket, I declined three times. But he insisted he takes his jacket off. He puts it on my back. And he goes, I need one thing from you. And I said what he said you wear this jacket on ESPN, and you tell people how much we love basketball out here. You wear this jacket on ESPN. And you remind them that the Seattle SuperSonics left, but we're coming back. And I said, dude that's easy. And so what did I do? I wore it on the entire Mardian McGee program on this network last week, and I can't describe to you the reaction to that jacket. Everybody wants my new Sonics jacket. Sorry, guys can't have it. I mean, it is cool. Travis it even. Has I don't remember. My bulls jacket having the same lining that this one does it's like quilted, it's yellow quilted interior. I don't remember mine having quilted interior. This must have been the luxury model starter jacket. Started didn't make the best because I had I had a bowls in a Cowboys. And those things they could you could go through Alaska and those jackets, and you'd be good to go there, suite two man like this thing looks so cool. It's a couple sizes larger than the typical medium that I like to Don. But nonetheless, it is as epic as it gets. And I can't thank Sam enough. I'll wear it proudly over here in Charlotte, North Carolina, and it's cool man because I can get away with wearing it because it's retro. There are no Seattle SuperSonics right now. So I'll tell you what I want man, you know, what I want in terms of like gear. I want a a an original Charlotte Hornets like their original uniforms, which that was nineteen eighty eight. So Travis was about six years old. Nope. I was born eighty eight you were born in eighty eight. Yep. So Travis wasn't even born yet in one thousand nine hundred eighty eight. And the original Charlotte Hornets uniforms were sick. They had these purple and teal little thin pinstripes on them. Big bubble numbers the Hornets mascot was a big bubble. Mascot little bumble bee or hornet. I guess as it were big horn. And they were just the coolest ever Muggsy Bogues Alonzo Mourning Larry Johnson Kelly Puka all those guys that we loved as kids. But you know, what I want, bro? I want a Michael Jordan Twenty-three original Hornets jersey. And I don't know how pull that off man. I want wanted speaking of tire. So I saw you rock and your Jay's up in Seattle. Katie Jay's everywhere. Twitchy, dude because it was raining, and like the streets were dirty, and Chad my buddy, I mean, he busted out laughing at me because I would stop I would duck under roofs to wipe off my jas. Yeah. You are very anal with your shoes. But did Katie Lee. Katie respect. You. Did it help you with him or anything like everybody mentions? It no matter what pair of Jordan's. I have on like I remember being at Alabama last year for the college football playoff and had on the original Jordan one black toe Jays and every player and every coach Sabin notwithstanding. They came through the door went. Oh my God. Where'd you get those where do I get those? How did you get those those are dope on and on? I've loved air Jordans my whole entire life. He was one of my greatest sporting heroes and influences my entire bedroom entire bedroom. Okay. As a parent now, I can't fathom how my parents allowed this. But my entire bedroom was wallpapered with Michael it was the posters that used to get it Spencer's. It was the box tops. I would take the Jordan box. Got my first pair Jay's in ninth or tenth grade. And I took the box which was all black with like the concrete bottom and had a red Jordan logo on the top. And I cut all of the little Jordan logos off of the box meticulously and hung them on my wall. I mean, he was he was my wall. And so I can remember my first pair a pair fives. And the original fives had a clear bottom on them a clear rubber sole bottom, but they soil terribly when you wore them outside they browned up really badly. So I would carry my shoes to school and not put him on until I was inside. He's not joking people. There's a lot of people are going to be listening to this podcast like nodding their head going. Oh, yeah. Man. That's me. I've seen you clean your shoes in the hotel room before oh asked McGee about it. I mean, McGee lost his mind. Mind laughing at me we were at homestead Miami speedway. Two thousand fifteen and I had a brand new pair of gray Nike running shoes. And I went and did a thing with the Goodyear blimp. I went and rode in the Goodyear blimp and did a couple live shots where you gotta park to Goodyear blimp on a big field. Well, we went in the morning when the do was still on the field. So I had to walk through that field in my brand new shoes. Son. I I was in the media center the deadline room with mister clean magic eraser going to work and McGee took pictures of it and thought it was just the funniest thing ever. I don't know. Why I'm that way of always been that way? Everyone like every day white down whatever pair of shoes I had on I'll add to when we were at five hundred. He actually stepped on the tow and you're flustered for the next ten minutes that does not sit. Well with me. I don't like. I tell my children I want your sweet little hugs worse than anything in the world. I adore your little hug don't step on daddy shoes. Buddies, james. It's a problem. But it's going to be a problem because I'm a forty two year old man. And I'm not going to change anytime soon at least on that front. You're listening to the Marty Smith's America podcast on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. And wingels. Listen, my breakdown of fights, okay? You always grab the other cultures. Has ever happened before we've got animals and. Papa crates crate that are meant for temporary use for you know maybe eight, hours and they've been in there for days for some of them. They're lining hallways they're, lining meeting rooms they're. Just really everywhere that we. Can put animals were doing it it is a time of need for these, animals one they hope you can fill Ginny, Lee Katie news there you go so busting at the seams get fourteen hundred animals called. Lot yeah you know fourth of, July is always a big time because they, get scared, and they they run and then we had some bad storms that freaked him. Out as well. Thunder lightning but fourteen. Hundred had just a month they don't have that many spaces no. And and what do you do what is the. Answer, because it's not like we have fourteen hundred automatically. Fourteen hundred owners. Are going to cut our perspective owners are going to come down I it it How how do we be a no. Kill city, how, how, do, we maintain that you. Can't keep building we can't build. Enough space for them you could build. An entire new wing at that facility and it still would not. Be enough within a. Couple of months it would be full again yeah we're not solving the. Problem we, haven't addressed the issue of irresponsible pet owners in the city right. We don't without a mandatory spay and neuter ordinance which? I'm not even sure? How, you. Would enforce don't. Either. I don't, I don't know how you do that I mean it's it's it's it's a catch twenty two is should be more space you build the more pets you're gonna. Have the, bottom line is we don't have enough. People Dopp pets it should be. Mandatory. You need to try to motivate? People to be sure? To do that but yes enforcing it is another. Issue altogether doesn't mean therefore you just don't why. Is it so damn expensive to. Adopt a, pet Is it so difficult and. The process and I think now you're. Trying to get a Russian baby I know I know. And I. Told you about the. The the questioning that we went through years ago what kind of animal. Will you, try Dopp the cat in the humane society this is going back. Maybe ten fifteen years ago now what kind of cat Yeah I don't know this? Cat cat cat cat you're opening any. Cap yeah we we were ready to have a. Cat, cat in our life Great great idea anyway we show, what did he main. Society we didn't realize we were going to have to go through a series of, questions to sit down one of which. And I'm, not kidding and Kim reminded me of this over the weekend because we were talking? About. This, the story. That, you are talking about she. Said. You remember. When she had to? Remind, you because you have short term memory is yes well fifteen years She said you remember when we sat, down and one of the questions they. Asked us, was what videos do you have available that you will show the cats when you? Are. Not, at home To help relieve their anxiety Videos video my wife's can't watch TV Not videos my. Wife's like video videos full on. Hulu my wife's cat just straight up my wife's cat has a. Hulu and a Spotify account Todd I'm not kidding that was the question and there's something to it though because my wife she'll pull up on the ipad these, these videos of birds eating burned food that was just seeds that were left on the sidewalk and these birds. Will. Come, up and eat it and the cats go crazy watching. The camera up close on these. Birds eating birdseed transfixed they want the bird yeah yeah So so what what? Videos did you. Have well we realized that we just weren't going to, have the right videos for these cats so we. Said thank you for your time and we went and got one from a vet friend of ours veterinarian friend of ours and didn't pay anything for, it and we don't have showed any videos and we we do still have a VHS I know do they. Like. DVD's Mostly VHS for. Cat what, are you what are your cats. Or stream so yeah Hulu yeah You know you know. We've. Got, I've got, an old. Copy of Pretty Woman I think a cat would.
