South Korean defense minister denies Vietnam War massacres
"South Korea's defense minister has denied Vietnam War massacres. Defense minister Lee Jong sup insists the country's soldiers didn't commit any massacres during the Vietnam War and has indicated the government will appeal a ruling that ordered compensation for a Vietnamese woman who lost several relatives to a shooting rampage blamed on South Korean marines in 1968, while some activists claim South Korean troops who are responsible for the massacres of possibly thousands of civilians during the period, those atrocities haven't meaningfully impacted relations with Vietnam whose

"And he means one of the organizations. Are you saying that, are you saying that Delia white won't would be a hard fight for Anthony Joshua? I say he should go like what Eddie says. Top 15 guy, then go to a dealing in white or something like that. You let him build his confidence to even get to Dylan white. The guy just lost twice. That's usually the normal procedure of a guy who loses once. He lost twice. You know, and then he had like a breakdown in the ring afterwards. He's like, yo, he's pissed off at him so. He needs that. So I say, don't throw him in there a while. You know, while the might have lost a couple of times, but he's super while the lost twice too. There was stuff. And look who he fought. I mean, he just coming off a big window. And look who he fought. He fought one of the top 15 guys. Which was a perfect. I mean, that Robert Lennon was perfect for one. Because he was incredible, given the com ski wins. But we all knew coming in that he didn't have a lot left. That's exactly the type of guy Eddie needs. He needs someone with some credibility coming off at least one reasonable win, but also not exceptionally dangerous. Those guys are hard to come by. I mean, I'm thinking like, you can even do that might even be too dangerous for them. I don't know. I mean, who's that? And he's coming off the loss, too. So it's tough. I still think Eddie wants to get J Lee Jong a couple of wins that do Joshua fight in Macau or somewhere in Beijing. I still think that's part of the plan. But you look at you almost wish Charles Martin was more active after the lost to Louis Ortiz. Rematch. I mean, I like the for Joshua like Norris Ortiz and I know he's older, but look, he gave a good effort in the Ruiz fight, you know, ended that fight strong. I think it was competitive. And he's older, but I like that fight because he's still all the guy who has skills and has power. I would shoot for that guy if I could if I was Eddie, I'm not a promoter, but I like that fight to start off the name is big and I just don't think he would I don't think that he can beat Joshua. I think he'll hurt Joshua. I think he's well past his prime. So there was a top name that I would pick with. I feel like he doesn't need a name for this particular first fight. Yeah, I agree. No, but why not? He does it, but why not? What would it hurt? If he had a name. Nah, I don't see it. I don't see it. No, I think you got to be real. If he doesn't do that, then why do it? Why not? No, the question is why do it? Because he doesn't need it. So why do it? Because it looks good. Hey, I'm coming off a two losses, but guess what? I'm hopping right

Coming up on 5 minute news. G 7 group of countries agree fixed price for Russian oil. North Korea fires more missiles threatening U.S. against dangerous choices. And 2022 midterms puts the climate crisis on the ticket. It's Friday November 4. I'm Anthony Davis. The group of 7 rich nations and Australia have agreed to set a fixed price when they finalize a price cap on Russian oil later this month rather than adopting a floating rate. U.S. officials and G 7 countries have been in intense negotiations in recent weeks over the unprecedented plan to put a price cap on seaborne oil shipments, which is scheduled to take effect on December 5th to ensure EU and U.S. sanctions aimed at limiting Moscow's ability to fund its invasion of Ukraine, do not throttle the global oil market. The initial price itself has not been set, but it should be in coming weeks. Coalition partners agree to regularly review the fixed price and revise it as needed. The coalition worried that a floating price pegged below the Brent international benchmark might enable Russian president Vladimir Putin to game the mechanism by reducing supply. Putin could benefit from a floating price system because the price for his country's oil would also rise if Brent spiked due to a cut in oil from Russia. One of the world's largest petroleum producers. The downside of the agreed fixed price system is that it will require more meetings of the coalition and bureaucracy to review it regularly. US Treasury secretary Janet Yellen and other G 7 officials argue the price cap set to begin on December 5th for crude and February 5th on oil products will squeeze funding to Russia without cutting supply to consumers. Russia has said it will refuse to ship oil to countries that set price caps. North Korea fired multiple missiles into the sea on Thursday, including a possible failed intercontinental ballistic missile, prompting the United States and South Korea to extend air drills that have angered Pyongyang, an initial Japanese government warning that an apparent ICBM had flown over the country triggered alarms for some residents to seek shelter. Tokyo later said the warning about the missile flying over Japan was incorrect. The previous day, North Korea fired a daily record of 23 missiles, including one that landed off the coast of South Korea for the first time and drew swift condemnation from Washington Seoul and Tokyo. Since Monday, South Korea and the United States have been conducting one of their largest air exercises ever, with hundreds of South Korean and U.S. warplanes, including F-35 fighters, staging around the clock simulated missions. The drills are likely what led North Korea to test a record number of missiles this week, some regional analysts said, but Pyongyang may also be turning up the heat before an expected resumption of nuclear testing for the first time since 2017. U.S. defense secretary Lloyd Austin and his South Korean counterpart Lee Jong soup held a long scheduled meeting at The Pentagon on Thursday and agreed in a joint statement to seek new measures to demonstrate the alliance's determination and capabilities. At a joint news conference Austin said he had agreed with Lee to extend the air drills past Friday when they had been scheduled to end. Lee repeated soul's view that North Korea was ready to conduct a nuclear test, but said it was difficult to say when it would carry this out. The countdown to election day is now in the single digits, and this year there are a number of major issues on the line, one of those issues could have implications for humanity as a whole, climate change. Clean energy pollution and infrastructure upgrades are all important aspects of climate policy that have found their way onto the ballot, Andrew Pershing, director of climate science at the nonpartisan research group, climate central, said the earlier you act, the more effective the actions are and the cheaper they are and the more benefits you get. Henderson said that on its face, climate is a global problem, so typically we think about addressing climate at a major scale. The question then becomes what can localities do that makes a significant impact. Few local and state measures on the ballot this year aimed at tackling climate and environmental issues. The Henderson only two stood out California's proposition 30 and New York's clean water clean air and green jobs environmental act. A recent report by Bloomberg showed that the nation's most populated state, California, is on track to become the fourth largest economy in the world. That growth makes proposition 30 all the more significant. If past, the measure would increase tax on personal income above $2 million by 1.75%. According to the legislative analyst's office, a nonpartisan fiscal and policy adviser, the tax would be implemented in January and run through January 2043, but if the state manages to drop its statewide greenhouse gas emissions below a certain threshold earlier than that, the tax could be lowered sooner. The purpose of those exercises says Austin to strengthen our combined readiness and our ability to fight tonight if necessary. Any nuclear attack by the DPRK including the use of tactical nuclear weapons is unacceptable and result in the end of Kim Jong-un regime by the overwhelming and decisive response of the alliance. This is a strong warning against the DPRK. But Lee also says the allies would like to see tension with North Korea ease. Along with the efforts of the alliance to deter and respond to DPRK nuclear threats, secretary Austin and I pledge to encourage DPRK to choose the nuclearization and the path for a brighter future. "To stay home almost a million people. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is calling on the globe to send united message to China about any use of force regarding Taiwan exclusive Bloomberg interview. UK prime minister Rishi sunak told the House of Commons today that he is delaying the economic strategy announcement until November 17th, Chinese leaders omitted from an official account of how Xi Jinping chose new leadership team. They're saying it's an apparent plan to change policy from including black elder I'm sorry party elders in major decisions. South Korean defense minister Lee Jong su says Korea needs to be more aggressive and in stance of saying that if Kim even attempts to use any nuclear weapons, it will bring an end to his regime. In San Francisco, I'm at Baxter. This is Bloomberg right back to Sidney Paul. All right, thanks very much, Ed, I guess this half hour is max pandori. He is CEO of SG MC capital and max when we left off you were talking about how a rise in unemployment would be one of the key things that causes the fed to make a dovish pivot. Should that happen though? Other risks come into focus as well. What do you consider to be the risk of a recession in the U.S. and more broadly? Well, we believe the U.S. will enter a recession. And the unemployment rising is really the only way for inflation to come down. Because you need to get a demand down and need to get growth down. And that's the only way that inflation is going to come down from the current levels to roughly in line to what the fed thinks. With respect to economic risk, of course, that means that there's going to be less growth and there's going to be less demand. But that's what you need in order to get inflation down you need to cool down the economy. You need to push on the brakes. And the fourth, that's what we think. And that's actually going to be that he was also for leading standards overall, because if unemployment increases, that's never good news. But again, we believe that this period of pain will need to materialize in order for fat to reach its objective. Max, I'd like to get your view on China now that we have the party Congress in the rearview mirror and we know now that Washington is using the kind of bans on U.S. chips and chip expertise as a way of exporting that technology to China, which has the potential to really stifle a lot of development of advanced Chinese technology. Give me your sense of how significant this is and what the repercussions could be. What it is definitely very significant. First of all, in terms of relationships between the U.S. and China, clearly here we are escalating on the negative side. And in terms of actual profits of growth for the industry within China, that's also negative news, especially given that one of the plans and the objectives of China is to improve their technological if you want the advance. Obviously, if you don't have the correct access to semiconductors and microchips that becomes extremely hard, developing domestic alternative we all know is not that easy. And therefore, in this fast paced environment, even losing out a few months of normal growth and then development probably means light years and then other industries. We think it will have an impact. It will have an effect. The question is China will definitely try and see some domestic alternatives, but it's not so easy. So the question is really, how much of a help and support they're going to try and give to this industry in order to figure out some of our challenges. How do you view the investing environment in China at the moment? A number of stocks and other assets are very, very cheap, but there are a number of risks as well. Are you looking at the space? We're definitely looking at the space. So it is true that from an absolute and relative point of view valuations are cheap. But it's also true with especially after the recent Congress uncertainty is very high. Visibility is extremely low. Geopolitical risks are very high headlines remain high. We have seen that it's unlikely that they're going to turn particularly market friendly anytime soon. The four not having a Chinese exposure is we believe not correct, but also we have been trimming down of our exposure given the recent news and keep in mind that yes, valuations in China are cheap, but after the recent fall we've seen in other markets where you'll definitely have more visibility. You're also getting some cheaper valuations elsewhere. Therefore, we do keep looking at it. We are in the market, but we have been scaling down, also because now a number of alternatives have started to appear. So max, when you have the morning meeting later today at SGM capital and you talk about the strategy between now, let's say in the end of the year, give me 30 seconds on what that looks like. Short term, you could see a further bounce, but we think that the market is likely to go back and test June lows again. There will come a time of buying and there's going to be great buying opportunities, but it's not now yet. We need to be a little bit more patient, more payments to happen within the U.S. economy. So we're probably looking at you want you to over next year in order to really start deploying the remainder quarter is probably still the time to be cautious. All right, max pandori will leave it there. Thanks so much for joining us on Bloomberg daybreak, Asia. Max von der is CEO

UK prime minister Rishi sunak told the House of Commons today that he is delaying the economy's strategy announcement until November 17th. In San Francisco, Ahmed Baxter, this is Bloomberg. Yeah, thanks very much. Let's take a closer look here at Samsung. Third quarter profit missed analysts estimates and joining us to discuss the earnings is Peter L strum, Bloomberg executive editor for Asia, technology. So operating profit for the chip segment almost cut in half, yet Samsung is not cutting back on CAPEX. We saw that from SK Hynix yesterday for next year, but as one of our colleagues said, Samsung has deeper pockets than most. Your thoughts on this earnings report, Peter. Yes. Well, these have been rough days for the semiconductor industry and particular in the technology industry more broadly. We knew that there were going to be some weak results here this had been pretty well foreshadowed by Hynix, as you mentioned. And micron even before that, they've been pulling back on their expenditures high next yesterday reported weak earnings and said they're seeing an unprecedented downturn in demand. So expectations were pretty low for Samsung. As you mentioned, earnings are down sharply. They did miss estimates. That was largely driven by the chips business. As much as Samsung, Samsung really makes its money from the chips business, even though it's it may be best known for its smartphones, but ships really make the difference in terms of profit or nonprofit. And as you mentioned, the difference here is that Samsung is saying it is going to keep spending on factories and new fabs to make more chips. Because it sees opportunities ahead that's both in the memory business and it's also pushing into the foundry business, which is making chips for other people the way Taiwan Semiconductor does. In the memory business, it is expanding in a few different areas, including into the U.S.. So it's expanding very aggressively at this point, which is pretty contrary to what its peers are doing. Yes, Samsung, a major producer of the world's chips, obviously. Producing more chips into a market that admits already got a glass. Most of the impact on the broader market are going to be with this. Yeah, there's some parallels to the oil industry, I think, in the OPEC countries where some company, some countries continue to produce very aggressively because they want the revenue. Samsung is acting aggressively. They're investing even though prices are falling pretty sharply in the memory chip market. They're investing aggressively. They see opportunities here. They're expanding geographically also. Into a few different markets. And they do want to become a bigger, more competitive player in logic chips, which are microprocessors as they build up this foundry business. They want to compete with Taiwan. Semiconductor, which is now the most valuable chip company in the world and has built a very, very strong business as a foundry for other companies. So we've seen these new U.S. government rules on exports to China, particularly having to do with very high level chips for AI and such. I think a lot of people are curious what Samsung is saying about these new rules. Have we heard anything on that yet? That is the big question for the chip industry over the past two to three weeks. That's really the only thing that everybody is talking about. What are these U.S. export rules mean for the industry broadly and especially for doing business in China? Samsung, of course, sits in a quite challenging spot in South Korea. It has many factories there. It also has a fab in Mainland China. And the Korean government has very close ties to the U.S. also. The conference call hasn't started for Samsung yet. So they haven't gone into details on how those chip export rules are going to affect them. But they have been able to secure a one year exemption so that they continue to ship equipment and supplies into China to supply that fab that they've got in China so they can continue to produce memory chips at that facility there. Yeah, that conference call you to get underway in about 5 minutes of Bluebird subscribers will be able to follow the details on our blog top live go. But talk to us about smartphones as well. We have had some weak growth in that division. The market doesn't seem too troubled though. Yeah, it's interesting. Samsung is probably better known for its smartphones than its chips because that is a consumer facing business. It's just that business was pretty strong, which is a little surprising. The overall smartphone market is falling this year, there has been some weakness across the board. Even Apple has shown some signs of weaknesses and they sell at the very high end of the market. Samsung has sort of pushed the envelope with their flip phones and their foldable phones. They say that demand has been relatively strong and they're optimistic about that business going forward. Is there a glut in that business at the moment? Well, the real glut is in the chips business as we talked about. That's challenging for people because during the COVID pandemic there were chronic shortages of chips. That led customers to over order because they were so anxious to get chips that they needed into their facilities. And now all the chip makers are really saying that inventories are a problem. They've been piling up. And that means that customers are going to use their inventories before they start buying new chips from Samsung or Hynix or micron or the other companies. In terms of smartphones, it's a bit less of an issue. The problem with smartphones is that they become obsolete a lot more quickly that's a business that's very has to be very, very timely. So Samsung is facing some uncertainties that are also. We have seen a very weak one over the past few quarters as well. How's that altering our perspective on these results? Well, they say that the strong dollar did have an effect that strong dollar of the weekend did have an effect on their business. Largely Samsung benefits because they are selling much of their products abroad and bringing that revenue back in either dollars or other currencies. So

All of that speaks to perhaps, the fed will be less aggressive, maybe to slow down the pace of its rate hikes that will get the meeting from the pet next week. And that's a check of markets. Let's get headline news with Ed Baxter, Ed. All right, thank you, Ryan, a U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is calling on the globe to send a united message to China about any use of force regarding Taiwan. This is an exclusive Bloomberg interview. UK prime minister Rishi sunak told the House of Commons today that he's delaying the economy strategy announcement until November 17th. Chinese leaders were admitted from the elders from an official accounting of how Xi Jinping chose new leadership and apparent plan to change policy from including party leaders and party elders in major decisions. South Korean defense minister Lee Jong su as Korea needs to be more aggressive in its stand saying if even if Kim attempts to use any kind of nuclear weapon, any kind, it will bring an end to his regime. Moderna is close to clinching a deal with a U.S. Department of Defense to develop a messenger RNA vaccines targeting a range of biological threats such as the Ebola virus. And Kanye West, who was a just dropped from Adidas endorsements, was escorted out of skechers headquarters today in Los Angeles, CNN says illegal filming sketcher says it has no intention of working with west and doesn't know why he was even there. In San Francisco, Ahmed Baxter, this is Bloomberg. Right back to Hong Kong, Brian. All right, thanks very much, had ten minutes before the top of the hour just a couple of quick notes here in the media review from the global times. It has a headline that says overblown national security concerns pushing China and the U.S. closer to Cold War. And goes on to say that an expert on U.S. China relations says that ties with Beijing could be severed if Washington pushes for closer relations with Taiwan. That comes from Qing war and he says that Taiwan policy act will have a disastrous impact on U.S. China relations if it's passed. And also this one as well from the global times that the Federal Reserve can not ignore rising criticism of what he calls the fed's malign policy and it refers to a letter written to Jay Powell from the Senate banking committee chair, sherrod Brown. Brown said that the fed needed to be cautious when it comes to tightening monetary policy. The global times says that brown's comments reflect anxiety over the economic costs of what the fed is doing. The paper says it shows the ineffectiveness of what it calls the feds increasingly reckless policy. Let's check if the media Rashad and dug to you. All right, let's get Edward Harrison blue mixing markets editor discussing at the market's news of the day and what a day it was, but of course there's going to be some positioning taking place ahead of this Q three GDP read and give us a sense of what your witnessing. Yeah, what I'm seeing is that it's backward looking in the shot. If you take a look at the numbers, GDP now that came out, they just came out with their latest update, which is 3.1%. That's the Atlanta fed's tracker, that's a number that will confirm that we're not in a recession now. But really, if you dig into the data and you think about the data that we've seen since then the numbers are relatively weak because the numbers are really about net exports. And if you look at personal consumption in terms of the actual Atlanta fed numbers underneath, it's only 1.2% for Q three and Q four is down from there. So this is all setting us up for a Q four that potentially could push the U.S. into a recession and definitely will make the fed think about downshifting. Okay, so let's say we get 75 basis points in November. Is it fair to say the high probability is of a 50 basis point move in December? I think that it's an even push at this point in time, the question is is what does what does inflation look like? Because even San Francisco fed president Mary Daly who's relatively dubbed. And I would look at her sort of a pivot figure at this point. She's saying that we've wanted to downshift now's a good time to downshift but the data haven't been agreeing with us. They haven't allowed us to. So potentially you could still get a 75 if inflation still is running as hot as it is now. I mean, December becomes in play, doesn't it? Exactly. I think that people will be looking to see what chair Powell says. And I think that one of the key differences between now and say a month ago when we started to have the volatility around the UK is that the fed now is talking in an openly dovish way. So that makes sense I'm sorry to interrupt. But I'm just wondering, we get the PCE deflator on Friday. That's the fed's preferred measure of inflation. So if that reading comes in on the soft side, I mean, it's a slam dunk. They begin to dial back. No? Exactly, yeah. If that comes in soft, then it's a slam dunk if, on the other hand, it comes in aggressive. It's overestimate. Then you have to wonder, will they have the opportunity to dial it back to 50? Or is it going to be 75? The interesting bit is the bank of Canada came out and they did 50. No one expected that we're now at the point, I think, for the fed where they're not going to let expectations lead them and then deliver on those expectations. They might actually surprise us in December. It's hard to say. I mean, does seem as though when you look at the currency markets and indeed the bond market is that perhaps we've gone past peak hawkishness. Yeah, I think definitively what we've seen now, I think the bank of Canada is telling us that peacock is over. The fact that the fed officials are talking openly dovish way that tells you that peak hawkishness is over, that suggests that the dollar was stopped out around the one 14 one 15 level for DXY and it potentially could trade down from these levels. So we've talked about the inflation story, which is obviously key for the bond market. But I want to get into this idea of liquidity and trying to keep it as simple as possible, Yellen, the treasury secretary on Monday was kind of indicating there is the potential for some buybacks of certain U.S. government securities with the aim here of improving liquidity. Is there a real concern now that liquidity in the bond market is dried up to the extent that there would have to be some type of intervention and if so, could you lay it out very simply what that would look like? You know, I did see a piece by Bill Dudley that was talking about extending the standing repo facility that is for primary dealers over to non primary dealers so that they could have a sort of a pass through of the liquidity, but the whole concept is that the fed would be there as a lender of last resort because basically there's not as much flow coming through the dealers themselves. So is that a situation where they have to basically use the balance sheet? I mean, we're talking about a balance sheet roll off would essentially mean that the fed while it's trying to roll off the balance sheet is using other parts of the balance sheet to buy back U.S. treasuries? Well, I think that the UK is a great example as to how this works. The question people were asking, is this QE? Is the Central Bank using quantitative easing, even though it's supposed to be doing quantitative tightening. It's very difficult. We're in a very difficult situation because especially because the balance sheet roll off is something that's not tried and tested in the same way that

"Brian, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is calling on the globe to send a united message to China about any use of force regarding Taiwan exclusive Bloomberg interview today. UK prime minister Rishi sunak told the House of Commons today that he is delaying the economy strategy announcement until November 17, Chinese leaders were omitted from official account of how Xi Jinping chooses a new leadership, the elders, and apparent plan to change policy from including party elders in major decisions. South Korean defense minister Lee Jong soup says Korea needs to be more aggressive stance of saying even if Kim attempts to do to use nuclear weapons, it will bring an end to his regime. And Elon Musk has posted a video of himself walking into the San Francisco Twitter office here carrying a kitchen sink and changing his public profile descriptor to chief twit. He plants plans to address employees on Friday. Rich don't tell anybody. It doesn't look as much like a kitchen sink as a bathroom sink, but who am I to question Elon Musk? I'm astonished that you can tell the difference, actually, he had anyway, but as besides the point. Back to that. All right, let's get back to our guest. Nancy dauda is private wealth adviser to Ameriprise Financial, getting her take on the market. Where do we go next overall? I mean, our markets pricing in a recession any longer. Well, I think that most of that is already been priced in. But that doesn't mean we can't go a little bit further before we start to recover. And I think, as I mentioned earlier, that what will begin the recovery really is signs that inflation is subsiding and moderating. That's really the most important part. So I'm curious as to whether or not you think that there are opportunities offshore. We noted earlier in the day that the NASDAQ golden dragon index that is really an amalgamation of a lot of the ADRs that trade here in the states. I think around 65 of them, the index overall was up more than 7% today because of a market reaction to Beijing pledging more support for financial markets. Are you confident to put money to work in China? I know we're just wrapping the party Congress and there seems to be an over all sentiment that's negative when it comes to China, but I'm wondering what your take may happen to be. Well, the answer to your question is no. I'm not confident in putting money in China. But I'm in the business of meeting clients long-term goals and objectives. And the international market as a whole is very tricky at this time. The dollar is very strong. Europe is in great deal of turmoil and perhaps already in a recession, if not coming up soon. The Russian reclaiming in war is taking a big toll on Western Europe. So we pulled back significantly on outside the U.S. as my chief economist said that the U.S. is the best house in a very bad neighborhood at this time. And so we're kind of sticking with U.S. equities at this point. Well, certainly, but I mean, you know, when you look at EM and where the dollar is even though we've seen the fallen if you are of the volition that the dollar actually weakens them here, perhaps it's a good idea to get involved with EM and actually then perhaps benefit not just from a good stock or solid valuation, et cetera and also get money from the currency play. Well, eventually, I think that will be eventually, like I said, it will be an opportunity. However, it's highly speculative at this time in my opinion. I think it's taking too big of a risk when you have other less or more predictive opportunity here in the U.S.. So speaking of predictive opportunities, if we can agree that we are closer to a peak in the fed funds rate over the next few months, let's say sometime in the first quarter. Yes, and I understand that you need to see inflation data that begins to kind of move down. Would you begin to look for opportunities in the bond market, whether it's corporate bonds, or maybe even U.S. treasuries at this point. Yes, I actually, I think we're getting very close to a bull market in bonds. We already have actual yields. I mean, four and a half percent yield is very attractive. You can direct some funds there as opposed to the risk premium you have to take in stocks. So I think that is actually a very possibility of good possibility in the next few weeks, if not in the next few months. Although the feds will raise rates again in November and December, going from zero to 4% is not the same as going from four to 5%. I think the majority of that downside has already been priced in. Yeah, that's true. Quick word is to where you see the bond market going for the time being and also give you a sense of what the most, I guess, I guess the most important question that your clients are asking you right now well, I think the most important questions and clients want an answer to is when will it be over? Of course I don't have the answer to that and I would think anybody has the answer. But I do know for certain in doing this for a few decades is that if you're in it for four or 5 years or longer, you're going to be just fine

"Use of force regarding Taiwan exclusive Bloomberg interview today. UK prime minister Rishi sunak telling the House of Commons today that he is delaying the economic strategy announcement until November 17th. Chinese leaders emitted from an official account of how Xi Jinping chose his new leadership team and apparent plan to change policy from including party elders and major decisions. South Korean defense minister Lee Jong soup says that Korea needs to be more aggressive in its stance of saying if Kim even attempts to do to use nuclear weapons, it will bring an end to his regime. Moderna is close to clinching a deal with the U.S. Department of Defense to develop a messenger RNA vaccines targeted a range of biological threats such as the Ebola virus. In San Francisco, Ahmed Baxter, this is Bloomberg back to Hong Kong. All right, thanks, Ed. Let's get back to that smoke challenge. The chief market strategist and managing partner bannockburn a global Mark, I mean, amazing moves by the dollop we've also got the ECB in perspective today as well and widely expected to deliver a 75 basis point hike. How much was that to do with the dollars? And is that largely because it's been, I thought it had already been priced in, but perhaps it hadn't. Yeah, no, I think you're right. I mean, why is the ECB raising interest rates when you're headed to recession? Partly because inflation is high. And what's the cause of inflation? I agree, of course, a little bit of it coming from the dollar, but I think that the real problem is higher energy prices. And that is more to do about what's happening with Russia and the policy response. And it is about the dollar. But for sure, on the margins, the dollar dollar hasn't helped them very much. It is interesting, the point you're making before the break about stocks actually being more of a forward looking indicator, not following. So in other words, if we're heading into recession, it's not normally that the stock market then bottoms later than that that it happens a bit earlier. So what are some of the things that you're looking at to bear out that argument, something that you can bet on? I think that's tough right now. Because this could just be another one of those bear market rallies and those bear market rallies tend to be very, very dramatic and catches a lot of us. People are looking for a balance and we get a bear market rally and we think it's the real thing. But I think that what we want to, I mean, it sounds kind of a gruesome in a way. We want to see the economy weaken. And for your inflation to come down and I do think inflation is going to fall. I think that the big surprise. Here's what it looks like to me. Inflation, CTI, average to the annualized rate in Q one. 10%. Annualized rate in Q two, 10%, annualized rate here in Q three, 2%. I think they were going to be looking at more than a percentage point off of CPI before the end of the year. Then it would reinforce this theme about the fed, slowing down its hikes, rather than beginning in December or early next year. And then I'll set up a speech for a stronger stock market recovery. So Mark, is that largely done to base effect, what's the deal here? Part of the space effect, I think there was seeing price in their falling. I think that a lot of things are taking place, right? The fed has been raising reach for 6 months now. And there is a lag time. And so four to 6 months, not so bad for monetary policy. The dollar as we talked about has been strong, demand is weakening. We see this from these corporate earnings. Right, they're saying, yeah, we raised prices to make up for lower volumes. Yeah, so if you're right, if the trend ultimately for the dollar is down, that the dollar has peaked and that equities have bottomed. What's the best way to play it? I mean, do you have the safest way to play that for, let's say, an audience that's listening to every word. Yeah, I think that for a lot of Americans, I don't know about the average per CAPiTA income of your listeners, but I think the most American households, the best thing to do right now is cash is buying an I bond. These are buying the U.S. government sales directly to people. I burn dot com. I think if I get on the government website and this is an inflation linked bond that up until recently has been really for institutional investors. This is available to retail investors with a $10,000 limit, but the amazing thing about it is right now takes over 9% risk free from the U.S. government that the coupon or the inflation premium gets reset next month, but the CPI over 8% is not going to go down that far. Okay, so it gives a sense then overall here of what that means for markets that are looking ahead. Yeah, so I mean, I think that we've been through this horrible shocks. We with COVID, the war, trying to retrace assets into 2020. There was like 17 or $18 trillion of negative yielding bonds. Data is hardly any. The markets had this. So we not only have these geopolitical shocks, but then the shock of having to reprice assets with a positive interest rate, the good news is that's behind us. We've

Welcome to the show today is Tuesday October 25th, 2022. Can I change it up with the intro today? You're probably wondering what the hell that's from? Well, I'll let you know here soon. Right after, these crypto prices. Here comes the money here we go money talk. And the time is ten 33 a.m. eastern daylight savings time, by the way, daylight savings time goes until November 6th. So we're almost at the end of this. We have Bitcoin sitting at $19,497 up 1.3% in 24. Ethereum is at the number two spot at $1380, up 4% in 24. Television number three, USD C is not number four I messed up. Binance is number four. At two 77, up 2.2% in 24. And USD C is number 5. Running up the top ten, we have XRP, BUSD, cardano Solana indos. Everything is normal at the back end. The total market cap is up 1.75% at 941.1 billion. We have a BTC dominance of 39.7 in an F dominant of 17.9. Moving into today's headlines. The CEO of venture capital firm hatched an early investor in Terra failed to turn up as a witness before a hearing of the Korean National Assembly's political affairs committee. CO June was one of 6 witnesses, some into better investigate the circumstances that led to terror's $40 billion collapse back in May. In a statement he said that after the tera Luna incident, he was under extreme stress and his health deteriorated and he needed to stabilize. The letter also claims that shield June is suffering from anxiety and panic disorder. He enclosed a medical certificate and is an absolute need of emotional stability at this time. Lee Jong hoon also submitted a statement of reason for his non attendance after failing to appear at the National Assembly meeting held on June 6th. The former bit thumb chief said he had a panic disorder and is no longer involved in the management of bit them. And that leads me to ask the question, is there something systemic in the crypto industry right now? Look, yesterday we heard a bunch of CEOs and presidents stepping down, claiming mental health or physical health, and they wanted to get back to a healthy environment. Is this an actual systemic problem that is plaguing crypto executives right now? The high stress of whatever is happening in the back end that we really don't know about, or we're not privy to. This kind of reminds me of the Dave Chappelle's statement on Martin lord's. If you guys remember the years ago, Martin Lawrence, the comedian, he suffered a breakdown and was like in the middle of the street, you know, just going crazy. And then everybody started calling him crazy, just like I did. He went crazy. And daisha Paul went on a show to say, hey, don't call crazy. That's dismissive. This is a systemic plague or systemic issue within Hollywood that is turning a lot of people like this, not just Martin Lawrence, but many, many people are having these breakdowns. What's happening? What's the sickness within the industry that is allowing these people to have breakdowns like Martin Lawrence head? So don't say he's crazy and dismiss it like it's a one off, look at the whole sickness of the industry and Dave chapelle obviously was talking about Hollywood. Do we have a sickness in the industry in the crypto industry that is forcing and causing CEOs and presidents and executives to just break down quit because of mental health and stress? I'm really curious about the behind the scenes story of all this. If anybody has any questions or comments, let me know, Matthew earned a crypt SEO. Our invest is buying more coinbase shares. They just bought a total of 10,880 shares of coinbase stock. And that's worth around $722,000. This brings arcs holdings of coinbase shares up to $61.2 million or more than 8% of the fund's total weight, making coin the third largest asset in his portfolio behind Shopify and block. Coinbase's stock was trading at 66 39 at the close of the bell on Monday. Down around 9% over the past 5 days. Now this purchase is interesting considering that they just dumped around $75 million worth of coinbase stock back in July, and the CEO Cathy wood later confirmed that the decision was made after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission or the SEC claimed that 9 tokens traded on coinbase were unregistered, securities, still have an update on that, by the way. Our invest previously partnered with 21 shares on an application to launch a spot Bitcoin ETF in the U.S.. The SEC rejected that application, but they're still waiting to hear on another application for a Bitcoin ETF. Does he see what supposed to have feedback on their new July filing for their arc 21 shares Bitcoin ETF by August 30th. But they have not answered or commented, they're still seeking market feedback. My bet is that arc invest is still going to have the first Bitcoin ETF. Anybody want to take me up on that bet? Again, email, Matthew and a crypto CEO. Speaking of the SEC, Gary gensler, the chair of the SEC, took yet another shot at the crypto industry on his speech on Monday. Critiquing what he perceives as the disproportionate power wielded in the sector by centralized cryptocurrency exchanges. We have seen centralization in the crypto market, which was founded on the idea of decentralization. This field actually has significant concentration among intermediaries in the middle of the market. He said in this is paraphrased, sitting at the neck of the hourglass as they process trillions of dollars worth of transactions, they can disproportionately capture profits, given their advantageous position. Ginsburg said of these self enriching financial middlemen, there is a tendency for a central intermediaries to benefit from scale. Network effects and access to valuable data. And this goes back to the quote at the beginning of the show, though technological innovations repeatedly disrupt incumbent business models, centralization still tends to reemerge. The U.S. Department of Justice, they accuse two Chinese intelligence officers of obstruction of justice for allegedly attempting to bribe a U.S. government employee with $61,000 in Bitcoin to steal documents related to an investigation into Chinese tech giant Huawei. The U.S. attorney general, Merrick Garland. He said this. The Justice Department will not tolerate attempts by any foreign power to undermine the rule of law, which are democracy is based. The documents that the two officers were allegedly after are related to an ongoing federal investigation of a global telecommunications company known as company one in the filing, and this company is based in the People's Republic of China, and company one is also Huawei. Coinbase will custody around $1.6 billion worth of MakerDAO's USD C with its institutional grade services, allowing the Dao to earn up to 1.5% rewards on the funds. The proposal was ratified by MakerDAO 75% of votes in favor. Maker will not pay a custody fee according to the proposal. And the community would need to vote whether to keep the funds on coinbase after the trial period at the end of the year. As you guys remember earlier this month, major dollar announced that it would invest $500 million in short term US Treasury and corporate bonds. That makes today's coinbase news another move towards centralized entities and assets, which seemingly runs counter to the marks of maker Dow's cofounder rune Christensen that dies should divest from USD C, hence, kind of makes sense what Gary ginsler just said about the crypto space becoming more and more centralized. This is an interesting and yet confusing article, and if you're a lawyer, please email me Matthew and krypto in. Tell me how this works. So Apple continues to clarify its controversial stance on NFTs. NFTs are allowed to exist within apps on the App Store, but they can't unlock additional features or content. Apps may use in app purchases to sell and sell services related to non fungible tokens, such as minting, listing, and transferring. Apps may also allow users to view their own NFTs, provide the NFT ownership, does not unlock features or functionality within the app. The Apple store wants its users to make in app purchases using the Apple store. Apple also said that they're going to take a hefty 30% cut of all NFTs sold in apps offered through his platform. Now, this is interesting because of the Epic Games Apple lawsuit. Now, Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic Games, who absolutely does not like Apple, said, in quote, apple must be stopped. But the problem is we have this antitrust verdict that kind of ruled in the Epic Games favored. The court ruled that Apple must allow developers to steer app users to external payment platforms. But concluded that the company did not meet the legal tests to be considered a monopoly. And thus did not have to permit competing app stores for iOS apps. So the way that I read this is that Apple must allow developers to be able to steer the customers that are using the apps, even though in an originated in the App Store to outside payment services, but this is noting that NFTs can't be used to unlock other features, which is kind of an outside payment service or an addition or a layer on top of the app or payment service. This seems to be in violation to the Apple epic verdict. And I'm wondering if there's going to be a test of this in the court of law. Or are they going to have to file a new suit? Is this the same thing? I'm not too sure any lawyers in the house let me know. And finally, we have a smartphone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen one CPU. A 6.67 inch AMOLED display, three lens camera array, and a 4600 milliamp hour battery. This sounds a lot like Solana's phone, the saga, but no, you would be mistaking because this phone causes way more than the $1000 saga, it costs $3600. And it's made by virtue. This is called the metaverse. It's a web three phone that runs its own blockchain node and turns photos and videos into NFTs with a single click. Well, if you guys are dying to get a $3600 phone, well, you can. And it comes with carbon fiber, 12 gigs of ram, and 512 gigs of storage. But my listeners would never get something so, so cheap, would you? No, no, no, not with the listeners of the crypt daily. You're going to get the top of the line model. With 18 gigs of ram, one terabyte of storage, and wrapped in Himalaya, alligator leather. As well as 18 kerrygold and diamonds. Just really quick, I just want everybody to realize that alligators don't live in the Himalayas. So I have no clue a Himalaya alligator leather is, but it seems pretty special because you need a pretty special alligator to get up a damn mountain. So maybe that's why it's worth $41,000 for this phone. Well, I'm already selling Bitcoin to make sure that I can go buy this phone because who needs Bitcoin when you can have alligator leather phones. The two will go on sale November 3rd. Through the virtual website, as well as its brick and mortar stores, including the new London location on Bond street, opening later this year. "You know, it was, although I was weeping at the end of Paris, it was also quite a thriller. It was felt like a horror film at times. So I think that combination of horror and gore and sort of like terrifying surprise mixed in with this allegory about economic survival is something that's been culturally in the mix from Korea for a while, but I do think in terms of getting to that bigger audience, parasite really paved the way I would say for something like this. And in that way, nothing like this ever feels derivative because it is so timely. And I think parasite made it more normal and not standard yet for people to go and watch something with subtitles, you know? I mean, when we're talking about the appeal of this show, I don't want to miss out on talking about some of these performances. The central performances on this show are extremely strong. And I wanted to see if you guys had any specific favorites you wanted to talk about. I loved the performances by the leads, of course, but I think I had June, playing Juno, the police officer. He did not have the main role, but every time he was on, I was riveted because there was tenderness there was fear there was suspense. And I just thought he did a very it took an almost understated role and just totally rocked it. And I actually, I don't know if his last scene is his last scene if there is a season two. Yeah, I would say the actor playing the lead Lee Jung Jay was just so, I mean, in terms of the sort of buffoon, you know, who slowly over time wins us over and starts to gain some confidence and there's something so relatable about that arc and that journey. And the way he played it, I think, from episode to episode, for me, it was really hard not to be won over by him immediately. I mean, it's really easy to say, the lead performance was fantastic. The lead performance is fantastic. He is so, so good. Lee Jong Jay, you're right a meal. He has to carry an enormous amount of weight in this show. He has to be hang dog and prone to poor decision making and also he has to have a $1 million smile. There's so many things going on with that character who is going through incredibly intense things. This show does not work without that central performance. I think he is fantastic. I also want to throw out a little bit of shine to a very small performance on this show by gongyu who is recruiting players for this game. And he's not a major player at all, but there is something about that guy's face that you can not look away from. And he's gone you. And he is fantastic. In this show, in a very, very limited role where you can not look away from his face whenever he's on screen. Well, he has a tie to the filmmaker where he was the star of the film adaptation of the book. The crucible, and the movie was called silenced. So when you saw him in there, it was sort of like, gay, thank you for doing this because that's gonna get a lot more attention for this series..

"It's just a it's just a nice heartfelt classic drama it was nominated for five academy awards Including irene dunne who won for her lead role as as mama in the movie It was her last oscar win out of five that she got over her entire career. And so yeah it's It's a very charming movie. That's if you're into these kinds of classic films. I think that you'll you'll walk being being pleased that you watched it. Okay let's move onto each t. You got to see the new fast and furious movie. I did got to see eth- nine the review of which you can see on slash film dot com and gave a reaction that i said at the beginning was going to be briefed on a water. Our a daily episode a couple of weeks ago when we were supposed to have a water cooler the next day which actually was quite thorough. So it's it's. I'm going to give a brief reaction here. It's exceptionally silly. So i will open the florida question. Is it exceptionally silly in a fun way like is that a good thing. Yes i would say so. Your mileage may vary pun intended. But i i enjoyed it. I think it was a movie that brought the fast and furious movies back on track after the fate of the furious. Was this really sort of. Solis just not as enjoyable. Not as as as a silly and fun as the previous ones have been. And i think this one is like the most self aware of the past fast. There's always been like that degree of self awareness but this one was even more so like they literally poke fun and make reference to the fact that everything is is very escalated at this point. Real quick on what the hell is her. Name of that actor scott eastwood. I despise his inclusion in this franchise. Am i going to be disappointed. Dec- in this movie a lot scott eastwood from fate of the furious. he resigned. mr. Nobody's assistant guy and it seems like he's seen thank god okay the best. I don't care about this guy so she had. There's no mention of him. I completely forgot that. He was in fate of the furious. Any movie really. scotties scotty. A charisma cole. He don't don't feel sorry for him. Yeah yeah no. Mention of him is hundred. Turn as satisfying as you hope. It's satisfying and silly. If that makes sense do they explain. Why the whole shaw situation with that okay. I just don't know how you feel with that and have everybody. Happy is what. I'm there some. I talked about this in the past episode. Where i talked about f nine but there's some reverse marvel cinematic universe. Okay and so. It's it's sort of like they're they looked at the franchise like we connect all of these half hazard. Ram shod movies together and they did a lot of that in this movie. I always like when a franchise does that star. Wars does a lot with like animated in books and if you can make stuff retroactively better. That's all win win. I think what else have watching each day. So i've been watching. Is the man from nowhere. The korean revenge thriller from twenty ten starring. One been and directed by lee jong gum. And this is a movie that i had always intended to get to watch at some point but i finally did it streaming on hulu i think and It's great it's this great. Sleek bloody revenge thriller that follows a A man from nowhere played by one been who was a pawn shop worker and his neighbor and her daughter get kidnapped by this Drug lord And he had a close relationship with the so he goes on this east. He cut this bloody swath through saul to try to Get the girl back and It's pretty straightforward. I wasn't quite on board with one been performance at first. He was almost to the point that i found myself a little bored with his performance. I thought she was just kind of wooden but he Once he cut all that hair out of space and thirty to show some emotion later on. I was like okay he. That's fine so I i will say. I was really intrigued by the the actor who played it. Antagonist the thai actor I'm going to mispronounce his thunder young Who was just really cool. He played this assassin. Who cleans up after the The drug the drug trio odds crimes and stuff so he. Yeah it's great. It's great sleek revenge thriller. I feel like chris has probably seen this one. Yes no okay. Just writing something. So my microphone wasn't in front of me but yes i have seen this and it's good. Thank you everyone cool. Another movie that i watched is the disciple which is a film that is that was picked up by netflix's in indian drama directed by catania. Tom on hey tommy tom. Although probably that. I am very sorry. And it follows this musician who is a aspiring classical music vocalists and he is very devoted to the arch to the craft and dreams of being this great musician but also is very dedicated to the idea of purity within. This music doesn't like the idea of doing it for show or for or even recording at are doing it for something that's more trendy But as the years go by he realizes he starts to realize that people who were Learning alongside him have have outstripped him and that he has to sort of live with his mediocrity and that maybe his devotion to the purity of music was misguided to begin with and sort of like this idealist who ends up being cut down by his own miss his own faults essentially It's a really translate in slow film. Really gorgeous shot that s- i think Was a won an award at tip. It warned the amplify amplify voices award. And this is another movie that net flicks kinda scooped up and buried in algorithm. Feel like this happens to a lot of the international gems that they pick up a lot of film festivals in an attempt to boost their credit as a distributor of art house films but they end up bearing in their algorithm. Which i always find really really frustrating so if you can and if you're up for i would highly recommend seeking out the disciple on netflix. It's a really beautiful movie. But i will warn you. It is very slow through say at the beginning so be prepared just kind of sit in.
