Pence seeks 'common sense' Social Security, Medicare reform

"Former vice president Mike Pence is still in the category of Republicans described as mulling a 2024 presidential bid, but he is laying out the policy approaches he'd like to see. I'm Ben Thomas, with this latest comments, common sense, and compassionate solutions. That's what Mike Pence says it'll take to reform entitlement programs in the nation's debt burden. Speaking to students at Washington and Lee university, the former vice president suggested changes are needed to social security and Medicare. As they closed in on projected and solvency dates. And while not offering specifics, he asserted, we can introduce common sense reforms that will never touch anyone who is in retirement or anyone who will retire in the next 25 years. The Pence said it will take courage to do it in the support of the current generation of young adults. Many leading Republicans, including Donald Trump, have recently signaled unwillingness to touch entitlement programs that the party has a history of threatening them. I'm Ben Thomas

What's Happening in Arizona Can Happen to Any Christian School

"You folks at Liberty University. Many of you folks have done your student teaching work in Lynchburg. What if the Lynchburg city council woke up one day and decided, you know what? We don't want to have any Christians working in our public school system. The same thing could happen to you folks in in Jackson, Tennessee at union university, or right outside of Chattanooga at Lee university. Great Christian schools. Churning out incredible, incredible teachers. But they could be denied jobs if in fact they profess faith in Jesus Christ. Now, here's the curious thing. We have a lot of I know we have a large and very diverse audience. We have Christians and atheists we have Jews and gentiles we have people who are conservative people who are liberal people who are straight people who are gay, what I'm curious about, where is where are all the conservative gay folks out there? Why are they not rising up in outrage over this? Where is the gay community at large because right now they are citing with the school board and the school board is doubling down. And they're saying, you know what? We do not want Christians in our public schools. This ladies and gentlemen is the hill to die on. This is the this is the moment where you have to stand up. And you have to fight back. And I'm glad to see people standing up and fighting back, but I am really surprised. By the numbers of people who came out and said, yeah, we don't have a problem with this. We think that's a good idea. Christians have no right to be in public school classrooms. As teachers.

Nelson's OT goal lifts Islanders to 4-3 win over Penguins

"Brock Nelson scored midway through overtime as the islanders rallied back from two goals down in the third period to top Pittsburgh four to three. Andrew's Lee scored a pair of goals for New York, including the tying marker with one 15 left in regulation. First 40, we weren't that clean, weren't that crisp. And it just was one of those nights we weren't. Weren't where we wanted to be, but at the end of the day, we found a way. The wind moves New York into the Eastern Conference's first wild card spot ahead of Pittsburgh, which for the first time ever was swept by the islanders in the season series. Nations reach accord to protect marine life on high seas

"For the first time, over 100 United Nations members have agreed on a unified treaty to protect biodiversity in the high seas. The treaty is a turning point in a year's long effort to bestow order on vast stretches of the planet where conservation was hampered by a confusing patchwork of laws. The agreement will create a new body to manage ocean life conservation and establish marine protected areas in ocean regions outside national boundary waters. Initially, the negotiations were anticipated to end on Friday, but stretched deep into Saturday, concluding a total of two weeks of talks in New York. Raina Lee, UN ambassador for oceans and law of the seas issues, expressed her gratitude at the accomplishment, saying good evening, ladies and gentlemen, the ship has reached the shore. Experts say that a global oceans treaty is needed to enforce the UN's pledge to protect 30% of the planet's oceans, as well as its land for conservation. I'm Sarah nafa

Paid express lanes grow more popular in once-reluctant South

"More states in the south that used to resist installing highway tolls, are turning to pay to use express lanes for raising revenue. Tennessee governor Bill Lee is looking at adding express lanes to his state's congested highways, asking the legislature to support a public private partnership, which is opposed by some lawmakers, supporters say the lanes which are voluntary are a way to pay for roads without raising taxes. But the national motorists association says these public private partnerships can lead to huge organizations with large staffs and big salaries, and there isn't as much benefit for the state as suggested. These so called price managed lanes can now be found across the south. In states that once resisted tolls, like Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia. I'm Jackie Quinn

Lee Smith: Obama's Plan Was for Iranians to Have a Nuclear Bomb

"What is it about BB that drives them nuts Because he won't stand down on Iran and he's preparing if necessary to attack the militarily whereas the west whether it's the Europeans or Biden administration and the Obama before that we're willing to accept an Iran with nuclear weapons Is that the issue I think it's not just about accepting and Iran with nuclear issue with nuclear weapons program It is the singular Obama foreign policy initiative To make sure that the Iranians have a nuclear bomb This is part of Obama's grander vision for the Middle East where he tilts against traditional American allies especially Israel but also including Saudi Arabia and he promotes the Iranians And I know it seems awfully strange and look I've got to tell you whenever people ask me why is he why is he doing that It was it was a bit of a mystery But if we looked at what happened during the Trump years how Obama officials Obama allies use the media they use the spy services against Donald Trump You see right there and it's again tragic for the United States But you see shared values between the Obama and Biden faction and the Islamic Republic of Iran This truly is an authoritarian trending towards totalitarian regime So Iran is very very important to Obama's not just as foreign policy but to his worldview is understanding of how politics should work and what the world should look like

"I've got the documents in front of me and it shows that the Biden State Department is helping fund helping fund the organizations that are behind the protests And this goes back I mean this goes back to 2015 You'll remember the stories about the State Department then funding and organization called V 15 And that's really where the anti BB infrastructure starts And again it's the State Department that's funding I mean it's insane They were funding political campaigns to go against BB to go against BB and his party in the Israeli election So this goes back to 2015 The other point I make is the number of different people like former ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro who hung around in Israel after Obama left which is bizarre enough But his purpose there was to help maintain that anti BB infrastructure And to go around war Israelis who were who were tending to get to sympathetic into appreciative of Donald Trump because of all the things that Donald Trump had done for Israel And he went around warning them saying don't get too close to Trump You'll see what happens when Democrats come back to The White House There will be a price to pay And then of course there was a whole gang of Israeli former Israeli officials the so called Israeli security establishment who could always be counted on to push at the time pro Obama and now pro Biden talking points So it's extraordinary It's very extensive infrastructure And frankly for me it's very sad not of course a sense It was to see these people poison the United States and our information ecosystem And our and our society But to see them do it in a great country like Israel and a great it's very disturbing

Go to the Places You Trust

"Do you see it changing? Steve kroc, because uncovered doesn't leave me very optimistic. No, and I do try in the last chapter to lay out some potential solutions. The union comment is really about the idea that the general staffer in these newsrooms is not going to listen to their bosses. That ship has sailed. Will they listen to their colleagues potentially? And that's one avenue of doing it. I don't have high hopes. You know, frankly, I think the corporate press along with really the elite establishment in this country today is it has so much disdain for the average American and just wants to divide us in sort of warring tribes. They kind of benefit by that and from a media perspective, they benefit from that because that's where their viewers are. That's where the lowest hanging fruit is. Just grab onto the ones that you know are the closest to you because the business model is changing. Just try to just grasp on as we hold on for dear life. That's a problem. And that doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. I think that what we need is a country that is united in a way that doesn't need the establishment geek keepers. And I do hope that by laying all the cards on the table by saying, here's the truth about these stories that we saw, a hundred Biden Jeffrey Epstein lab Lee, COVID, all of these stories over the last few years. Let's get on the same page together because then we really don't need that. We can go to independent press. We can go to places that we trust.

"The story of behind there goes my life because how many this one, I mean again, whether it actually happened to you're not, there's so many people relate to this song. That's a fact. Like no other song that I've been a part of, we've gotten more response, more feedback, more letters, and emails about how this affected their life. And this song actually was my co writer Wendell mobley, who Lee Miller is good friends with. We all write together, but I've had most of my success with Wendell. And this was his idea. And he actually lived a little bit of this song way back when he was young. And we held on to this idea. It was his idea. He brought to the table. We had it all written down, but we hadn't started working on it. I bet a year went by and we had that idea laying around. And the only line that we had was. We had a line, one of the lines in the song, I can't even remember which one it was. We had laid down, but I know we had the title written down in our notebooks back when we were still actually writing words down and not typing them down. We had there goes my life, you know, the teddy bear line and all that stuff was written out, but we hadn't actually put the song together. And then one day we just did Nick happened so fast. By the time we got that song written to the time we recorded it like the next day in a week's time, Kenny had heard it and was going to record it. And it seemed like a week or two later, it was on the radio, but I know it wasn't that quick, but it felt like that's how fast that song happened. And it went up the charts and hung up there for about 7 weeks at number one. It was a big old song. I wound up, I wound up singing it at one of my daughter's graduations. They asked me to come do it when the school called my about threw up when they asked me to do that because there's no way I'm gonna be able to get through this song looking at those caps and gowns. I mean, I can't do this. But I did, and I made it through it. We did good. We got nominated for ACM song of the year. Went to Vegas, and we didn't win. It didn't matter.

"Okay we are. We are back and it is time for questions today as always go and take a look back at the question from our previous episode and you may recall that i asked whether or not the mid would rush for more than three hundred yards against houston. I'm sorry to say that the pessimist won that round but it wasn't a slam dunk. Actually the mid's were over halfway to their goal by halftime or at least halfway to the goal i'd set out there for them by halftime but houston made the necessary adjustments to keep them just under two hundred yards and by the way that was only because manner got sacked on third down in that last series at the mid ted altogether. There are thirty five of you. Who correctly figured the offense would come up short and they were eight optimus out there including me who figured they could get the job done but maybe they'll have better success running the ball against central florida this weekend. All right so for this week's question let's get away from football for a minute. This is going to be for all you weekend. Golfers out there. And here's a question. What is the farthest distance. You've ever hold out from during around okay and here are your choices. between five and ten yards between eleven and fifty yards Choice three is between fifty one and one hundred and fifty yards and finally our last option is greater than one hundred fifty yards so go ahead. Make your selections on our group facebook page and I'm gonna want to get some details on this one. So leave a comment telling what happened. We are following ashwin briggs from the men's cross country team and a restore from the volleyball team and Actually there isn't anything to report where briggs is concerned because the cross country team hasn't competed since the last podcast episode But they are in action today up in bethlehem pennsylvania at the paul short invitational and that is their last meet before they go up against army on october the fifteenth so Pretty good opportunity to sharpen everything up and and get ready for that showdown against the black knights up in new york The volleyball team is on the road. This weekend for a couple of matches against bucknell which is tonight and also lee high. Which is tomorrow night. saturday The loss of army was tough. But they'll get another crack at them in about a month on november fifth on the road in the meantime every still continues to be among the team leaders and kills and service aces right now. She sits second and kills with ninety eight. And that's eight behind jamie llewellyn. Who leads with one hundred. Six still also has ten service aces which puts her third place. Defensively the navy seniors third among hitters and digs and. She's tied for second in blocks with twenty six. Now against army still had ten kills three blocks which her for the team lead and she accounted for twelve and a half of navy's points during the match I'm sure by now that set-back isn't a teams rear view mirror as they focused on their next couple of league games. Local in san jose Lee high school my other partner. I i wasn't super closely in high school. But he rooms with the percents Cincinnati with and so. It kind of all came together. We started that mastermind group together of the three of us and that was before the pandemic and was really good. Timing for us as we kind of had this growing knowledge we care about financial independence and then there's an email that went out one day to all the big tech companies and said. Hey you cannot go work anywhere but you can't work from the office anymore. And the moment. God that email was when all three of us were flying into town to do a mastermind retreat. And so just kind of beautiful timing because we took that nassar mott which was supposed to be three days and we made it into you. Know what alex fifteen months now to pursue this and so you mentioned that you guys had this big tech background and you realize early on that deal flow is everything and i completely agree with you right now. A lot of people have funds especially here in the bay area. People wanna find go better return with for their money. What do you guys do exactly to find leads. Yes what we do for. Lead generation is as i said we use tech and we realized that real estate especially on the acquisition side is just a numbers game so it's you create a funnel and the wider that funnel is the more properties you can stuff into the top topped the more they're gonna fall out the other end. That are actually strong deals. You're gonna lose some every step of the way but at the end you need to be left with things that are strong enough that you can go in and de risk the project because you get in a low enough price and you can start with all that margin over that baseline equity when you enter so we used to kind of do marketing outreach at scale we've tried everything from direct to cold calling to door knocking. We've delivered wine to people's houses. We've texted we find. Texts works the best. We like text and but we. We originally built a lot of software in house to us for this marketing outreach. I guess and then slowly adopted other people's software stuff as we obsolete our own. It's a pain when you write your code breaks midway you are writing code instead of doing real estate so as an example like in the past you would write your own software to text message blast a bunch of people and then you realize mazdas paid like fifty bucks a month to use someone else's code is exactly what we were doing everything from scraping to skip tracing to text messaging and follow ups and you know things running in the background all the time doing this while.

He does respect that he really respects horse racing and i hope people realize that but he also has to run a company and he has to make businesses and so i don't think he's looking to make changes because he's some sort of cost cutting wherever he's trying to make the realistic changes and try to move forward in a very positive way. That doesn't mean. I won't miss aquit. Even if i agree with your. Yeah well that was one of the first. Want to on the line now. So it's super convenient for me and i agree. I can't stand what they did. The gulfstream in florida mostly. Because i spent some great winters there and i love the gulfstream. So call me romantic. And it's not my place to tell them how to run it. I wish that they stole the old track. So that's my complaint. It doesn't mean they were wrong. Track like gulfstream. If that was attract that we put were to design it would make certain amount of sense you know tracks like that so i think these acts obviously different because there this lots of their resorts world's there but i think if anything opening that kind of brand new casino has made made such a contrast with acqueduct which is so old school. Guidance begrudgingly. I would say okay. We had a pry it out of him. Well by the way mary jo. You probably did know about this. But we joke about john cable and how they pull the sky out every time they need to make an excuse for anything. You know Almost ten days ago he actually did have a post now because microsoft is microsoft and they can't communicate effectively. John cables posted not go to blogs windows dot com. It went to tech community or something like that where. I didn't see it because why on hell why. Why would they ever do things consistently anyway. Ten days ago. Mike mike john cable penned a post explaining the windows ten kind of a windows eleven. Sorry life cycle and what that was gonna look like and a lot of. It's some of the stuff we already talked about. Two years of support for the home and pro versions three years for education and commercial etcetera etcetera. But i hadn't read this post before. And i have to say going through it this morning. I was very interested to see the level of detail. The only thing that i don't think he explained adequately although i think we can infer from what they're doing this with windows ten is what the total windows eleven support life cycle. Looks like in other words. I wondered. I probably said this loud last week. So two or three years now to get windows twelve. Or what is that. Look like and. I guess because he doesn't say this. But based on the how the discussion goes in his post i would imagine. Their current plan is to support windows to eleven for ten years as well. Guess yeah no. No one does really. But that's my guess dispaced on wrote so when we i've been asking them so many follow up questions like i. I don't even know how many i've sent them at this point and they've answered one. I think maybe out of all of the ones. I've sent so far They're winging it too right. I think that's part of it. I know anything right on the servicing side like mike. So are you guys gonna have another update to windows ten after twenty one h to we have nothing to share okay. How long does eleven going to be a market like. Is it going to be every year. We switched to a new version number. We have nothing share on that right now. Okay what about s-mode like i've seen in different places in different parts like in your documentation and other places all different things by zesco going away only going away for pro and enterprise also home or not. We can't say right now. I'm like so you know the answer but you just can't say it. Is that what we have here. Honestly do they know the answer. I i feel like the answer changes from week to week. And they're they're winging it i. I really kind of vibe. Yeah so i feel like the okay. Here's another example though that's crazy so i said i've been asking a lot about the skews because people have been asking me. So is there definitely a windows. Eleven iot skew and i couldn't find any references to it and then two days ago or so. There was a blog post thing by the way. Of course there will be a windows. eleven. And i'm mike but okay when i asked you guys that you couldn't answer but you must have known that answer since here's a blog post about it right. I don't know..
