"That was sort of the thing but without him with if they had not hired him and he had not come there and brought the science part as opposed to the pedagogy in own bounce the ball blow the whistle on stuff i knew i'd stop riot getting a master's degree so i get more money but he came in that just opened up my mind and that's when i finally got this is cool this is a career what was it the curiosity what was his name with mike whitehurst yeah was it why hirst's curiosity or passion what were the qualities that attracted you to what it was he was doing because there's this exercise science thing but liners the there's like an essential thing a mentor to you but what i was what was the thing that was really that you saw that you felt that drove you to where you're at now was the thinking it was the critical thinking that that's i think what changed what i was doing because up to that point you go to class you read a book the study your staff you take an example but the there was no experimentation there was no laboratory there was no thesis hypothesis that's what he told me he taught me that take their questions that need to be answered and this is how you answer a question so somebody can teach you the scientific process the new set for life because you can answer any question in that is as simple is going to the grocery store and am i going to buy this from i gotta by that were you have to make a decision eight at some point they get to boxes a serial which one should i buy or you can read them you can analyse what you're doing you can see this one's baker but it cost this amount you can divide you can determine you know how much am i getting penny what so he taught me out like my father did how to thank and mike taught me how to then use that to solve scientific problems it it's funny one of the big themes that we try to tackle is how information is interpreted integrated and and then used and then we've identified that there is a organic process and you just sort of identified this like the teacher shows that the lesson shows up when you're ready for it.

"As a stewart four andy's insatiable interest in ideas concepts and specifically science which yet we identified early in the volume on his chapter specifically the backstory to that is the person that we're going to be talking with today he's a stand out person for dr galp and he's a stand out person in this year prolific nature of what he's contributed to exercise physiology so dr brown it is a pleasure to sit down with you just weeks before you relocating the family to florida and interestingly enough before you even relocating you've already found yourself a job over that you found yourself a lab that not even a job and and you're you you're a scientist through it through well don't want to just be stale and i've i've said all along i didn't want to retire and die in the same year so i'm hoping that i can give hack you're who are still level over the time ahead but thank you for having me today it's an honor to be here and i'm really looking forward to this the obvious starting points for us i mean andy knows your work really really well i remember the baseball bat yeah swinging speed conversation came up here and for our listeners that don't know about that there is a basic conversation about bat speed so it think about every professional baseball player or little league player that you've ever known eat whether you played or not but everybody can have a mental image of that waited cookie that goes on the end of a bat and out of habit loops people swing their bats like that right you said i wonder if that actually works and then ransom studies on the ira and that started a wave of conversation about velocity about habit loops it made it is far as like a conversations on jim rome why people do that in old habits i remember hearing some baseball players talking about the things that they do to prepare them to swing and perform well at the majorleague level but the bottom line is is that you challenge the notion that that in fact makes your bat swing faster so can you just break that down as a starting.

"My best advice for young scientists find a way to share lavishly brown early can do better now he added we all need direction right we've all had it no one does it alone right m can we sort again wears the future of this understanding going y come on we are not a senior thin are built to change at the most advanced levels of everything that comes down to fundamental basis these are general health practices them every human should be striving for this scream if you like can't day i was listening ours not lost bad everybody thanks for tuning into the body of knowledge now if you've followed us you know that volume one was largely about change if you follow the tail end of that first volume we hinted and communicated that the second volume is largely going to be about sherpas so when we got talking that is josh andy and myself andy was insanely insistent that we get professor lee brown on a on a live interview before he leaves and relocates permanently to florida now some of you may or may not know who lee brown is all of us are directly and indirectly influenced by the over seven hundred articles that he's published and he's been cited over three thousand times hearing if even know those numbers i don't know if if you've ever considered anything in their training like speed or velocity and or strength if you've been influenced by a strength coach odds are that professor lee pounds work has influenced you in one way or another now all that aside and the the broad impact that he's had as an intellectual and strength and conditioning specifically he's had a massive impact on our cohost anti galvin off air anti told me i wouldn't be in california and i probably wouldn't know you had it not been for professor brown.
