"Not once but several times. Ohio resident Taunton. Lynn Ansley was found not guilty by reason of insanity in two thousand two after claiming that she thought her landlady a college professor was part of a conspiracy to brainwash and kill her motivating Ansley to shoot her landlady several times in the head upon questioning Ansley told -tective she believed that the world they were in was not real that. She was living in a computer simulation? Like the matrix. They commit a lot of crimes in the matrix Inslee allegedly told police that's where you go to sleep at night, and they drug you and take you somewhere else. Then they bring you back and put you in bed, and when you wake up you think that it's a bad dream. In this alternate reality. She said her landlady had been involved in a conspiracy to keep her brainwashed. And under control of the simulation with the ultimate goal of killing her in Annesley's mind. This was all simple self defense against the sinister agents conspiring to keep her in the virtual dreamworld. In two thousand twenty seven year old computer science student fat in my suggests brutally murdered and dismembered fellow student and roommate L Awang before unceremoniously scattering her body parts around the area. When my suggests was found by police he was wandering around a mall with a knife high on drugs and acting bizarrely upon his arrest. He spouted nonsense gibberish for a while before telling thirties that he was living in the nature IX, and that therefore Wong had never been a real person at all. Eventually a judge would declare him mentally incompetent to stand trial. And he was institutionalized. Though, he didn't use it in his defense teenage DC, sniper Lee Boyd Malveaux. Reportedly wrote the words free yourself of the matrix in sketches that were seized from his cell and told authorities during questioning that if they watch the movies they understand him. In February two thousand and three Joshua cook nineteen of Sinai. Virginia murdered his parents with nine gunshot lasts between them then called police and calmly explained to them what he had done. He then stood outside the home three king soda waiting unarmed to be taken into custody without a struggle where he was compliant and well behaved by all accounts. Cook had been absolutely obsessed with the matrix series, dressing and trenchcoats covering his walls with posters and watching the movies over and over again this obsession morphed into him thinking he actually lived in the matrix. According to one of his defense attorneys defendant, cook harbored, a bona fide belief that he was living in the virtual reality of the matrix at the time of the alleged offenses, and thus could not distinguish right from wrong. But the prosecution pointed out that cook had called police to turn himself in and told the nine one one operator he was definitely going to get the death penalty for this implying that he knew exactly what he was doing and was aware of the consequences. If he really thought his parents were bits of dripping green code. He wouldn't bothered bonus. Fact, the scrolling computer code, you see in the matrix movies are recipes from a sushi cookbook. Ultimately, Joshua cook entered a plea deal and was sentenced to forty years in prison. And that's where we run out of ideas. At least for today, though. I do want to leave you with one legal defense that backfired in the most extreme way in eighteen seventy one a man was on trial for a death that occurred during a barroom brawl his lawyer set out to prove that his client was innocent. Because he believed the victim had shot himself after trying to dry his pistol from kneeling position in an attempt to prove his case. The lawyer put what he thought was an unloaded gun in his pocket. Kneel down to recreate the scene attempted to pull the pistol out of his pocket and accidentally shot himself. He died a few days later, but his client was acquitted and released from custody. Thanks for spending part of your day with me.

Johnny Bartell was for decades the town pediatrician in Jones Ville, Pennsylvania, but for all that time he molested patients in the exam room and told people he was just doing his job. Now bardo was sentenced to nearly eighty years in prison. This wasn't any standard medical treatment. And he was sexually abusing children at a doctor's office. That's what this was. And today's sentence leaves no doubt, Pennsylvania attorney general Josh Stein. It wasn't until Bartos own relatives came forward as victims did Bartos stop denying. He abused kids. Evan brown. "Not get gas or they would run outside turn the pump on run back into their car. This had that part of the country gripped with terror and now LeBron Malveaux is. Has went to the supreme court, and he's asked them to consider whether he deserves a new sentencing since because he wasn't eighteen at the time. And he was sentenced to life behind bars is that unconstitutional cruel and unusual punishment to take someone who was seventeen who technically is not an adult may not have the mental capacity that an adult would have unable to make the same types of sane rational decisions that adults do would it be cruel and unusual to keep them behind bars for the rest of their lives. And this is a changing and emerging dynamic area of the law because we're dealing with juvenile's, and we're dealing with various levels of crime. So a lot of people are looking at do we need to change how we treat juveniles and where is the tipping point. Where is that line where we can send someone to prison for the rest of their lives or sentenced them to death and win can't we and that this is a case that is. A perfect example. It was a horrible horrible offense things that were happening. And this was a seventeen year old that was also acting in connection with an adult. I always think about the story here in Arizona trying to remember was an eight year old up in Saint John. Yeah. And and that young man is not in. Did you just judicial system at all at this point he shot, his dad, his dad, and like a roommate I believe and is not behind bars anymore. I'm guessing he still has to go through some counseling. But I know that when he turns eighteen he is just totally on his own. I believe this case though, very interesting because. Mean to me were seventeen eighteen that's not a big difference. To me, I understand in the eyes of the law. It is a huge difference. And I'd be fine. If they want to give Mr. Malveaux appeals songs, they're turned down every time. And I understand with this case there was another master manipulator behind the scenes who was responsible and who was many people say brainwashing. This young man. But it doesn't make what he did. Right. And to me, you still pay for your crimes, and it doesn't mean that when you're forty he should get to get out. But sure if he wants to sit before a board and get an appeal. Okay. So back in two thousand three the jury decided against the death penalty. And that's when it was recommended for life imprisonment without the possibility of parole since then the supreme court has changed how it thanks and treats juvenile murderers, and it said the death penalty was off limits for juveniles in two thousand twelve it said that mandatory life sentence. Without the possibility of parole were unconstitutional for those under eighteen so you can see how society in the court has changed. And you know, I I I don't I don't know if I was a family of one of the victims. I'd say, oh, no, he should never get out. And he just because he gets a parole hearing doesn't mean he would get out. That's right. So maybe we do give him the possibility of parole. So that it's constitutional. But then hopefully, those those. Yes. Say no because you were seventeen you were fourteen and at seventeen you know, right from wrong. I don't care who is telling you. This was okay. You knew deep down. This was wrong. Let's recap story.
