"Episode from Erstwhile Host Kristin Sager. Today's is pretty gross. But if you're like me and find insects and vampires fascinating. It's pretty interesting morning brain stuff. I'm Christian Sager. You've just woken up. Something smells musty and sweet when you open your eyes. Your bed has a trail of malted insect shelves rust colored stains and tiny smears of excrement. Just saying this it makes me feel itchy so imagine actually finding these traces of bedbugs in your home. We thought these little vampires were taken care of after we bombed them to hell with E. T. in the nineteen eighties. But they are back in. Dat was outlawed in nineteen seventy two so we can't nuke them from orbit just to be sure anymore so arm yourself with knowledge because here's what bedbugs are where they live and how to get rid of them. The official name for bedbugs is CEIM. X. Lecter Laureus in they are parasites that feed off of their sleeping hosts blood the largest they get is only a quarter of an inch and they're flat so they're easy to miss their Brownish wingless with six shiny legs and their syringe like mouth beak is what they use to pierce your skin and suck your blood now unlike knows for ought to these guys rarely wake their victims while feeding and they can even take three to ten minutes gorge on your blood now. While drinking they actually released their own saliva into your broken skin which can eventually caused an allergic reaction. Luckily they don't spread disease but the bites can swell and it except for thirty percent of people who have no reaction to these bugs at all even still they probably won't drain you dry. It actually would take one hundred thousand bedbugs feeding on you for at least a week to make you anemic now. Let's put one misconception arrest. Ed Gein: The Butcher of Plainfield
"Bates in psycho leather. Let her face in the Texas chainsaw massacre this is the movie that is just as real as being there. Hannibal Lecter and Buffalo Bill in silence of the lambs. A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fatherly. Nice key and they're all legendary movie villains who are best known for their haunting. Murderous acts on screen believe it or not all took inspiration from one man who committed similar heinous crimes in real life. His name was Edward Keen. Who's known as the butcher of Plainfield for his perverse actions on women's bodies both dead and alive he killed all two women in Plainfield Wisconsin and robbed the graves of at least eight women in the town on the surface? The area knew him as Ed Geene. The local handyman no one knew about gains secret proclivities until nineteen fifty seven when he became the prime suspect in the disappearance of hardware store owner Bernice warden her son. Frank found a puddle blood on the floor of her shop. He immediately suspect again. My mother said he'd been hanging around and behaving oddly. Recently Frank told the police. He insisted to police that they should question. Geen and investigators farm located a few miles outside of plainfield Wisconsin. And Ed knew what the officer was going to ask before the words even emerged from his mouth. Somebody framed as he would later. Confess infests Geen did kill Bernice warden and he kept her body at his family's farm. The following is a graphic description of gains home listener. Discretion is advised advised when the police entered gains home. They found Bernice decapitated and gutted her body hung from the rafters of his kitchen. Upon further investigation. The police found other evidence of human remains in his home including human skulls fashioned into super bowls. Human Flesh Schiphol streak covering furniture and a suit made entirely of women skin as in a suit that gain would wear. This was not a movie Ed Geene had murdered. Two women violated the graves of at least eight women in practice human taxidermy. He was terrifying real life villain to the living living and dead for a decade before he was arrested.

"They could simply have contacted Lecter, and I would have been more than willing to render voluntarily they terrorize my wife my dogs. I will lead not guilty to these charges. Well for the record that a seven criminal charges of obstruction lying and witness tampering in connection with twenty sixteen campaign, so important. In fact, playtime was already over for Roger stone before judge Amy Berman Jackson imposed a total gag order on him. Now, presumably he really believes it just as play time is over for the president's one time campaign chairman Paul Manafort today, we learned he'll be sentenced next month in two cases. He's already in jail and declining health could end up serving more than twenty five years in prison. Playtime is over for him. No, fun funding games. Either. For Michael Cohen. He'll be going before three committees next week with some of his testimony on camera and on top of all of that Robert Muller's report may land at literally at any minute. Now, whatever you think of all of this things are getting very serious very quickly. We said playtime is over I want to start with Roger stone's day in court. Why he was there how he tried to explain himself? And what the judge made of it. See an answer. Sara Murray was at the courthouse. Stay she joins us now. So. It didn't seem like stone. Or did. It seem like had any kind of reasonable explanation for his Instagram post in which there was a cross hair on the judge wasn't exactly an explanation on the one hand, he apologized. He admitted it was a screw up. He said it was a lapse in judgment due to the emotional stress of this whole ordeal on the other hand. He didn't have a clear explanation of how it came to be in the first place. He said he has these volunteers who help him find these photos and that someone supplied it to him. But he didn't know which voluntary what it was. He didn't know how he got the photo in the first place, and he wasn't able to explain exactly how these selected that one out of all the options given to him. So it certainly wasn't a satisfactory explanation to the judge. And it didn't seem like the judge really was buying what stone was selling. Now. She really wasn't. I mean, she was almost incredulous. Actually, she said you had multiple options for photos, you could have chosen, and this is the one you chose you know, she actually took a little while to deliberate over what she had heard and she came back, and she was incensed that stone had show. Chosen a photo that could incite other. She said that it was deliberate that it sent a sinister a message, and she was worried about this signal that that might send and as you pointed out Anderson, she warned Roger stone that if he did not abide by this latest gag order. She was willing to throw him in jail would or the specific terms of the gag order. And what can what can't stone talk about seven? Remember, the first gag order is pretty lenient. And basically said Roger stone can't talk about this case around the courthouse. And now, she said, you know, clearly, you had problems abiding by the spirit of this guy gorder. So now, he's not allowed to talk about his case at all in any venue. No, interviews, no social media posts nothing like that. He is allowed to say he's innocent. He is allowed to ask people to donate to his legal defense fund. And the judge pointed out again he's allowed to go out there and talk about anything else in the news. Just not this case. Shields took it a step further and said, you can't send any messages through intermediary. So you can't have spokespeople going out there. And defending you talking about this case on you. Or behalf. So that's certainly a blow to someone like Roger stone. Who has we know loves to be in front of a camera..

"This is Wilson from Austin, Texas. It's gotta be Tim. Right. That's gotta be Tim Duncan. That's the player that Hannibal Lecter would coach the best. That's a player who would be most receptive to being coached by Hannibal Lecter because he was already for the entirety of his career coached by basketball's Hannibal Lecter. Who's Gregg Popovich? They would get along perfectly fine. I'm sure Hannibal would show up on Christmas. Popovich should be like, hey, this is my brother Hannibal Popovich, Tim. We'll go. All right. That makes sense. And then they would be they would be buddies lead to would want somebody who's who's a town basketball player. He would want somebody who's a winner. He would want somebody who was going to trust his advice and do what he says. But also somebody that doesn't need to have his hand held like you need Tim Duncan there. Nobody else is going to fit buck in Kobe. Bryant could not be coached by Annibale electric colbrad. Couldn't even be coached by Phil Jackson. The Jackson did not like him. I'm glad that we got. The point of the QNA where we get to talk shit about Kobe Bryant. Let's do another one. Let's do one more NBA question. This is a voicemail. Let me hear it. Hey, say my name is Kevin. I'm a big fan of yours. Hi. They have a lector would have handled the Leonard trade demand that he was saying telling us, I thank you. That's Kevin O'Connor. You son of a bitch. That's Kevin O'Connor. God, dammit. The student other one let's do two more voicemails, and they weren't gonna shut it down. Big fan with Hannibal Lecter viewing the secondary Ellum dump Laville action, the main villain, and that's the one who the hero has actual confrontation with very Foster's character the end giving Hannibal actually overrated, he's not really the main villain. He's not part of the final showdown you consider him an overrated movies villain because he's not the main one is not part of the final turnout. Thanks. On the road by what are you doing? No. Of course, Hannibal is not overrated Hannibal is possibly the greatest movie villain of all time. And you're trying to sneak around it with a technicality because he doesn't staredown Jodie Foster. At the end, the whole movie is him staring down Jodie Foster. I can't believe you would ask me. This is hurt my feelings. This see this is why I didn't wanna do the QNA. No. I think I understand what you're saying. Buffalo Bill is a villain. But he's not the main villain of silence of the lambs. Nobody's ever. Like, oh, let's watch silence of the lambs to see buffalo Bill. We wanna see Hannibal hannibal's. The guy Hannibal is the main one he is not overrated at all. You can call him the greatest movie villain of all time. And that's still would not be overrating Hannibal because that's probably that's probably a fact. Let's do another. Hey, shave Sheboygan J crime dog. I was just curious you consider manhunter cannon in regards to the Hannibal Lecter related films. Thank you so much for put out a podcast. It's very good. She's fucking bark at me. Is that what just having I got barked at by my boy DJ crime dog who I don't know who you are crime dog. But thank you for calling in. And thank you for barking at me, man. Hunter is not canon. No silence of the lambs stands on his own. You can maybe put Hannibal there with it. You could probably possibly put red dragon in there too. But you need Hopkins as lector and care about manhunter. They get everyone who emailed the question recalled in question to this again next Tuesday following the Regina George episode of villains. Listen to villains or go to hill. Thank you..

"He was a crooked FBI agent. He said of Starling. He was working in conjunction with Mason verger like that had to happen to him. I think worse than actually doing that is at the very end of the movie when Hannibal feeds the brain to the kid on the airplane. And I mean, some blame has the fall on the parent there, you don't just let your kid wonder off on the plane and eat brains from strange man, who's fucking missing a hand, who's just bandaged up and bloodied. Feeding your account let that happen. But I think that was worse than the skull thing. But I do think the face mask is worse than all of it. Next question. Let's do another voicemail. Of the office as seen sewed where Dwight pose a Hannibal Lecter say also CPR dummy, and then proceeds to place and unsafe and the whole Hannibal Lecter feels. So you're looking for podcast. Thank and I don't think you ask the question there. I mean, you did you said you asked have I seen the episode of the office where Dwight poses as Hannibal Lecter when he cut the face off of the CPR dummy. And then I mean, of course, I've seen I've seen every episode of the office billion times as one of my favorite TV shows of all time. It might be my favorite TV show of all time. Who knows but? Yeah, that's a great scene. That's a great episode. That is one of the, you know, six or seven best moments on the show, certainly one of the silliest moments on the show. Let's go ahead and go through all of the office questions because there were a ton of them in there or were like comparing characters or would how this character react to that. Or whatever. So let's go to those this next one. This isn't amalgamating of several of the questions that were all basically the same. If you could recast the following roles from the movie silence of the lamb with characters from the office characters not the actors but characters who would play the following who plays Hannibal who plays Clarisse and who plays buffalo Bill. Forecasting that movie with characters from the show, not the actors, but the characters buffalo Bill would probably have to be played by mos- MOS was the most intensely strange person on the show he never felt threatening or evil or violent. But if we're just looking for a weirdo. It's got to be most if we're casting Clarisse than that has to be Pam, right? That's gotta be paying not early seasons. Pam though, we don't want like meek. Pam sort of mumbling through everything we want late seasons fan. We want the Pam that has been hardened by life, the pan that has been hardened by motherhood. Remember the episode where she throws up in the trash can in front of the white just to spite him like that's the version of Pam that we need to play Cleary's, a strong smart character. Pam is. Obviously smart. We need the strongest version of her. There's got to be. Seasons. Pam and for Hannibal the most obvious answer. He would probably be Dwight they're both smart in strange ways. They're both odd very odd. Once you move them outside of their very specific context. They both have immaculate posture like the pieces fit, but I'm not going to do I because I don't figure Dwight has the capability to be as evil as Hannibal is. That's just not in his traits has set of character traits. He's not that you need someone who can tap into the blackest most amoral part of their soul. I think it has to be jam. I want Jan as Hannibal. She to me more than anyone else seems capable of cutting face off. And then wearing it. Next question. Another voicemail. Here's my question. Okay. Hypothetical. Let's say Hannibal Lecter has invited you over. He's coke. And so he's bringing the main course, he's got wind covered. But once you bring your own side dish, what are you making an why keep in mind, if you do not impression he will probably kill you any. Okay. Well, the gas man by. You know, what I'm gonna do? If you're telling me, I had of time that I have to impress this guy or going to kill me. Then I'm just not gonna show up. That's all I'm gonna do. I don't wanna be a part of that program if I know going in, but I don't impress this person..

"He didn't realize that he left his pen on the bed. He sort of got caught up in his own momentum. He forgot about the pen. He walked away. They unhooked Hannibal left him in a cell. And that's how Hannibal got the pen. Would be my guess, that's my guess. Next question. This one's a call unless you're the voice mail. Say this Elijah villain from Colorado. And I was wondering how many days in a row right where Hannibal Lecter past work before enough fire, by the way. All right. Thanks. That's a good question. Elijah Elijah the insurance agent. So if you're wearing the Hannibal mask to work, here's what I think happens. You wear the first day you show up. It's like July fifteenth, you're in your hand will mask, everybody's laughing. Oh, ha ha look at wacky Elijah. He really like is a lively person in the office. Then you show up the second and the mask the, and I'm assuming you're doing this like seriously, you're treating this as a serious thing. You're not walking into sort of joking. You show up the second day and people are like ok allies relaxed. It was funny yesterday today. You're just like in the I'm trying to fill out these reports, you're in the wake and you stop. And then the third day comes and you show up again, it's Wednesday now. You pull up to the office. You wa- you get out of your car. You're walking in your in the mask, very serious. Look that's the swing day right there. When of two things is gonna happen. Number one. You're bossing to call you. And he's going to tell you to remove the mask. She's gonna tell you to remove the mask. If you don't you're fired or number two. They're all going to be just sort of depending on how well you've sold this. They're going to be intimidated or scared if you can get past that third day if you can convince people like your don't you see Elijah with the guy over there in the Hannibal mask by the coffee getting coffee right now. He's fucking crazy. Don't talk to him. That's what you want to have happen in the background. If you can make that happen in the background. Then you can wear the mask for as many days as you one. If they think you're doing it as joke, you get in three days, and then you're getting written up or fired by your boss. So as on you, really? Next question. This is an Email from Dalton Davis, which Hannibal moment was worse. A insolence of the lambs when he's wearing the guard's face a hockey mask or be in Hannibal when he cuts open Ray Liotta skull and pops it off the cap on a tube of imminent Minnie's. And cooks the brain needs to brain. If I have the choice between one of these things it's going to be the the face mask thing for a few different reasons to to most important of which are number one. We didn't know that Hannibal was capable of this type of crazy this level of crazy like they had alluded to it. They talked about the stuff that he did. But there's a difference between hearing somebody talk about it. And then seeing that Hannibal has killed two people strung one of them up like an angel and then rip the face off the other one and put it on his face. Like when you see that happen. It is entirely and totally startling. There's just no other way to to process it. We had not seen that violence. The we have not seen that level of insanity yet in Hannibal by the time, we get to the brain seen like that's the point in the.

"First bonus episode of one of these every Tuesday the way the process works is on Thursday. We will release a real an actual episode of villains on Friday, I'll post on Twitter of phone number at an Email address. So that you can submit questions either about the villain or about the conversation that was had on the podcast Saturday and Sunday. My producer, Karen heart goes through all the emails and all the voicemails him pulls him aside. And then on Monday, she sends them to me, I listened to them. I record my answers on Tuesday. You get where you're listening to right here. It should take twenty twenty five minutes tops since some of the questions are emailed in our read those any Boyce Maza men on just play those. Let's get into it. The first question is Email, then as from Alex Morio, he asks one thing I learned from the Hannibal episode of villains. Is that in the books Clarissa Hannibal and up together like shea, I prefer how it goes in the movies for this question. I want to assume the two of them ended up together and that they had a baby. So my question is if Clemson Hannibal did have a kid, what's the more likely outcome that the kid is super evil that the kid is super good that the kid is just a normal kid will the baby would definitely be smart maybe to come out and the baby would be a regular normal baby. And then he would grow up or she would grow up, and it would be clear that this child was smart. But there's just no way to to like become an adult in the lecture household or to go through purity and Lecter household or to be a toddler in the Lecter household and not eventually just go fucking all the way nuts. There's just no way that it can happen. Your dad Camby a serial killer who eats people. And your mother disgraced ex FBI agent who fell in love with a serial killer who eats people that can't be your starting point. And then you end up. Okay. Like, you're not gonna be invited to join the local T-ball team if your data's fucking out here eaten dies and shit doesn't work. So the kid is going to be a pariah. The kid would have to move to wherever and live a secret life, and that's just no way to grow up. So the kid is gonna grow up screwed up a smart child, but also just destined for awfulness thing. I'm interested about here. The leg aside version of your question is Hannibal Lecter good at sex is a fun conversation to have. I think it would have to be. I think the way the scale works. As the smarter. You are the worst. You are at six probably is how it goes. But at a certain point, you are so smart that you become incredible at sex. It's like when you're at a common example here would be if you gotta Taco Bell. And you order like five tacos or five burritos? You're you're just a piece of shit as what you he dog all the time as the most like piece of shitty that I ever feel as when I'm eating a fucking dorito shell taco or whatever. But if you can eat fifty of those becomes impressive at a certain point same thing with being smart and having sex. I think once you're to the level of smart that Hannibal Lecter is you probably Hannibal actors probably laying down really really nice is what I'm saying. Next question. This is from Tom Coyle. Is another Email did Hannibal still Dr Chilton's pin would they transported in from the prison and a cell? How did he do it? He has tied up in straightjacket. You know, what I think happens, Tom and this scene. I assume that Hannibal is tied up in straightjacket because Chilton wants to go into a sale and talk to him. That's what I think is going on here. I think that's just like the status quo. For whenever Chilton wants to get close enough that Hannibal could grab him. Otherwise, he's going to have the orderlies or the guards put Hannibal in the straitjacket put him in the mask just to be safe. So I think he only went in there to just like children went in there to go talk shit, the Hannibal and laugh at him..

"Selector getting away then lecture doesn't get out and things don't unravel the way that they do, you know, they don't he doesn't see the Senator. He doesn't get move to this new facility. He doesn't escape. We don't have all these set pieces some going children. I agree. Aside from all the other characters Chilton ostensibly should know better, he's his his life and work is studying Hannibal Lecter, and the criminal mind, he should understand the type of person who is dealing with. And the everything that he does to tag is Lecter is theoretically done with full knowledge that those things would antagonist Lecter and caused this reaction. So I think it's clearly and everybody else, you know, it's like the cops got sloppy. That was not great the end trying to do their job we'll situation, but none of those people deserve. What happened to them? Chilton is is spent weeks and months and years, poking the bear and the bear got out. And now bear aid is s what do you think is the number one regret? I can't get past the guy not paying attention when hannibal's there with the handcuffs on. Looking at the keys. This is pretty cellphone. Yeah. What are you looking at? He's just like he's just staring with his back to Hannibal. I'm going to look the other way. And like, you know, I'm sure he's fine. He's fine. I shook handcuffs once. Yeah. When I'm reading through the books when I was research rather stuff the very first person that Hannibal kills when he's a kid. He eats the cheeks your I mean, this is very similar I presumed a pork cheek which is guanxi holiday, and he just just dry. I trauma the culinary business. Earlier where like a guy knows the thing and another thing because he could be making fun of me right now. And I have no idea what he's talking about from your sincerely that there is a salty sweet Italian heard meat cold Guan Celli that is taken from the pork. And it's it's delicious. And I suspect Hannibal had the same idea. This this seems like a good place to end. Do. We miss anything. Is there anything else we need to talk about this? This has.

"Last category. This is my favorite category is called regrets. Who makes the biggest mistake when dealing with Hannibal Lecter? There are a lot of made. I got seven options for you. How? Yeah, I got seven seven people really screwed up all these dummies all of these dummies number one Chilton's for being mean to Hannibal the just don't be mean. Like, there's a part in Hannibal where Clarisse is interviewing Barney Frank phase owns character orderly. And she's like, how did you survive with Hannibal all those years? It wasn't just by being nice or being polite. And he's like it was that's all like just. Yeah. That's why I didn't kill me because I was not addictive can Chilton just kept poking them with the stick over over. That's a mistake mistake. Number two Clarisse for talking to Hannibal. Jack Crawford is very clear. Don't tell him anything. Give him the paper and see, and that's it quid pro quo, and she goes in there. Just like, oh, sure. I'll tell you about the deepest darkest secrets. I have if you'll fill out this. Form for me. That's a big mistake mistake number three Crawford for sending Clarisse to talk to Hannibal. I don't know how to grade this one because on the one hand it it works at the got the information that you needed. But on the other hand like you, basically he puts her life in danger. No question. And this we see is a series progress. It has a very resounding impact on the rest of her career. She's forever tether to him. That's kind of like a dick move any calls. It an interesting errand. I got I got an interesting thing for you. That's not an interesting, Erin. Like if you ask me that fucking babysit a pig. That's an interesting area to Doug to a serial killer. It's not great. That's not this is like me assigning pieces about Trump to people at the ringer. You know? Have you ever considered this thing next option? This isn't isn't Hannibal related, but I have to mention Catherine Martin for help and Jayme gum put the love seat. And the van like, what are what are you doing here? That's a classic. Classic serial killer move is it. Yeah. You act injured you act, injure Ted Bundy, this it's a I don't know. This fact, but it was a this was a technique that Ted Monday used to lure victims. And he he would walk around with a sling on his arm say, oh, could you help me with my getting my books into my car, and then bunkum over the head known that one second you're singing American Girl, you know. And then the next white, Catherine. What are you doing next option? The security guards the two guys who are not paying attention. When they bring Hannibal is dinner is the one guy bringing the food in the other guy is literally standing at the door. Just looking at his keys like you'll have one job just watch hannibal's hands right after we handcuff him, and we'll all be alive at the. End of this. Those are they're not security their senior level police officers. Lieutenant sergeant better clearly been doing this for twenty years, and they you'd think that with a with a as brilliant and notorious serial killers Hannibal be four five six people staked out there all this happens. And it's where's where's the backup? Where's everybody? Okay. That's the that's the next option here. Whoever's in charge of the officer allocation when Hannibal is in temporary ODI two guys in the room with him. And we've got eleven people downstairs cluding Chris Isaac size upstairs. Yes. Why what are the eleven doing down here? The guy with a gun standing there and just be their big regrets bureaucracy has failed us once again. The last one the one you mentioned earlier, Sean, the medics for not like, oh, this this is an that's not your face. Be able to tell a face on a face. I think that's in day one of EMT school. This is the faith comes. The real issue. Okay. Well, those those are options we've got children being mean animal Clarisse talking to Hannibal Crawford for sending Cleary's Catherine Martin with a she's not included Bush's included. And then all the security guards. Who's making a big mistake here. I'm going with children because I think the movie really turns on children, you know, if he doesn't let his vanity and his desire to be a major figure in this story get in the way, and also his obviously deeply I sort of hostile relationship..

"Next category. Jason. Yeah. This bonus footage L. Yes. I can't wait for this. Do you remember in the office? I'm going to jump to the office, my favorite TV show, perhaps when Jim kisses Pam everybody remembers his great scene. I always wanted to know what happened the next day at the office. What was the next day like Jim show up to work Hamshaw to work? Are they cool with each other? Do they ignore each other? Like, I want that sort of bonus footage. That's what we're talking about here with this category. Is there a moment that we know for sure happened in silence of the lambs and that universe that? We don't get to see that you would like to see. I think that that the census taker story is kind of conic he does deliver it vividly. But I think I do wanna see Hannibal pre capture in the wild. Right. You know, there's a lot of there's a lot of mythology and a lot of narrative put around that idea. And so it would have been interesting to see we ultimately got this with the TV show in some respects, but this sort of young up and coming brilliant, psychological mind starting to figure out that he just how damaged he is. There's there's a lot of Hannibal Lecter that we don't get a chance to see one for you. Yeah. I think it's you know, right after his escape where does he get money and clothes and stuff? And how does he get to the tourist yet? But then how does he get an idea? How does he get on a plane tourist a he looks like the guy like I wanna know how he Hannibal Lecter in the world on the run is kind of fascinating thing. And then how he works himself up to as we saw was what's Hannibal and Hannibal. Like, how does he then become esteemed member of society has happened? That's fascinating. That's that's a fair one. I kept trying to picture things. I wanted to see I really like the scene. When Chilton is describing to Clarisse, y you have to be careful, and he's like, the ducks he like shows her picture of the nurse that the that Hannibal attack. I'm going to show you why we insist on such precautions on the afternoon of July eighth nineteen eighty one. He complained of chest pains and was taken to dispensary his mouth piece in restraints remove for cagey in the nursing Dover him. He did this to. The doctors managed to reset her jaw more or less say one of her is his pulse. Never got about eighty five. Even when he hated. That's a gruesome thing. I kinda I kinda wanted to see that. I kind of wanted to see the census taker but he was picking one of those moments. I feel like if we have that we lose out on that impact of that whole final stanza of what Hannibal finally gets to go nuts because he doesn't do anything close to violent all the way up until he puts the handcuff on the guy. Shocking. Nuts. Yeah. Because they keep talking about crazy is and you see that. He's making these weird is or he's got this this very erect posture and his closer tidy tight. And you're like I mean. Okay. And then you see it happen. I don't I wouldn't want to lose that. If we I don't know if we lose that. If we see earlier addition to see is I'd like to see like a kind of super cut of the moments when people leave hannibal's presence, and then he starts blinking furiously. Because is right out. Oh, yeah. Twenty minutes. He's like dropping vising. His I wanna Senator Martin says after they get in the car after they have their exchange. I wouldn't mind seeing that throw that one out there too. I mean, she's got to be as destroyed you'll ever be in her life daughter's kidnap, and she's just been taunted by the world's most notorious serial killer kind of kind of a tough week. Next category. Overmach under master fair fight Anthony Hopkins, really gives a transcendent performances. That's like, yeah. That's just everybody knows that it's become the defining role of his career UC Lecter before UC Hopkins when there's a new movie with him in it like oh shit. People. Forget he was doing a lot of TV movies for this. You know, like, Hollywood wives and stuff like not was not an iconic film actor yet, then just takes off. Okay. This category though is about the opposite. What about the opposite of him?.

"You know, you look like to me with your good bag in your cheap shoes. You look like a rube like a serial killer just told you look like a fucking hillbilly, very tough. And she's got on her best probably our best outfit. It's just so hurtful she's really trying and he just cut her legs off for the fun of it. She's also a trainee with no money with nuts. Yeah. I know. I I think maybe maybe like secretly one of my favorite things in this movie. Is that first scene is my favorite scene of the home movie when him and Cleary's me for the first time in my favorite part of it is when he's dipping in and out of the accent to like make fun of her without saying he's making fun of her. I remember reading somewhere that he didn't tell Jodie Foster. He was going to do that ahead of time. He just did it. That's why she looks shocked because she's like is he making fun of me for real. When it what's going on here. Like that's does. He stink of the lamp. It has come to which which of these five is is his most villainous thing. What are we going with, Sean? I think it's fairly safe to say murdering someone tearing their face off and then stealing their identity is number one with a bullet. I'm gonna go with that as well with an additional with an addendum shelves to the two EMT's in the ambulance. Who thought they were saving a cops light. Roadkill of Hannibal Lecter just regular. They were doing a good thing doing their job serving the county collateral damage in Hannibal Lecter escape shouts to them. We don't think about them. We didn't even know their name. We don't even know their names, very tough stuff for them. Next category. Maybe he had a point doesn't aim of this category. Busy on are- fan OSE award. Conversation. We're gonna call this. Is there an argument you can make that justifies Hannibal Lecter actions in this movie at all other any any parts of it either. I mean, there's one small part, which is he leads Cleary's to buffalo Bill rightly so buffalo Bill is captured now that will probably ultimately electors escape, and then his subsequent murder of many people consumption of those right down the road. So you know, it's a little bit of a column Kombi. Yeah. I agree with that. That's which is what makes him a fascinating character. He was only pure evil. He didn't have some kind of point. If he wasn't so intelligent. So aware of what he was doing. I think he would not be as interesting character. The me zoom in a little bit here. How do we feel about him deciding to like tease the answer out of clerics rather than just going? Oh, it's it's oh you're talking about buffalo Bill. I know exactly. Who that is? It's this guy. I Jame gum. That's a very good question. I think you could make the case that he has sort of helped her become a. Better FBI has he though I I mean, I think so I think she's forced to use powers of intuition interviewing skills detective work. I mean, these are the things she'll use in her job. And as you pointed out, they have this unique chemistry. There's something between them. What is it that? It's something. I've thought about a lot watching this movie over the years. What is it that interests him about her like there's something about her innocence or a naive? I think but there's something else to like he feels her intellect even though it's kind of unguided at that time. I can't I can't figure out what it is that he's definitely drawn to how smart she is as being mart of because you see it happen in that first scene when he like, oh, Jack Crawford since the trainee to me Bubba that do that whole thing. And she's like, oh, I was hoping I could learn something from you or whatever. And then he looks at it. And he's like that's very slippery of you here that we're not dealing with just a regular person. This is someone. Who maybe we can play chess against each other. And also Hannibal even though he seems sort of impenetrable indestructible, I think probably ultimately because of his intelligence knows that he's damaged and knows the clery says damage, they're sort of impartical in that way. There's something there's some sort of native wound. And it's like two people with problems identifying what's good about one another in the wild in the book series..

"Which is the the book our science lamps. It's also in manhunter, the the Michelman TV movie adaption where we'll Graham the FBI agent caught Lecter is meeting with him. And he's like, you know, at letters like me and grams like, well, you had certain disadvantages. What were those you're insane? So I guess that is how. Like, he's just so in control don't he's almost hyper sane. You know, he's made the rational decision that I'm smarter than everyone. Therefore, if I need to kill people that is afforded to me because of my higher intellect. Terrifying prospects. Yeah, I think I'm falling around this same categories. Both of you guys. For me was there's two parts to it. Number one. There's just a stillness to him. He looks like a very deep body of water. You just don't know what is in there. And number two. He is an almost all capacities. Just impenetrable. There's no way to get inside to see what he's doing anything that. We see it in the very first seeing that he has with Clarisse she's poking and prodding him in every way, she can think of and it's like she's fucking tapping on a Bank vault with a toothpick trying to get inside. There's just nothing there. Meanwhile, what you're talking about about him being so smart, he talks to her for a total of like, six minutes and within those six minutes, he figures out her aspirants route or motivations and he uses it to just shred her to pieces. You know, what you looking to me with your good? And you. Choose looking at a road. A while scrubbed hustling. Case. But you not more than one generation wide. And. Desperately to shed peo- West Virginia. Comb on the lane. How quickly the buys on? Do you all those TD's fumbling from the banks into 'cause you could only getting? All the way at the end. And for me. That's that's like a central fear of mine. I don't ever want to be the person in an exchange who doesn't know the thing we should both be on the same footing. Here. You should not have more information than me. I'm terrified of that. So watching an entire movie where that guy is just built around that premise is fucking frightening. You pointed out something really interesting to which is his ability to identify where she comes from by the sound of her voice, which is such a unique skill and it gives you that that uneasiness that's sort of like why I'm so disadvantages. He said because of that he he's just such a great character to you do other view. Remember where you were the first time you watched silence. Is there a memory you have attached to it or the movie or a character in there? I can sure. Yeah. Mine which is not. It's not a story of seeing the movie came out. I was not quite old enough to go to the theater to see it. My parents are very particular about not letting me see movies like this. But I had an uncle. Everybody has the my uncle didn't take a movie, but would he would he would do? I would beg him to do. This is he would explain movies to me. He would just sit me down. And he would just tell me the movie from start to finish. And who's a great storyteller? And he had the uncanny ability to paint a picture when he was talking to any was obviously fascinated by Lecter. And I think he may have even read the book, but he had this unique ability to convey, everything that happened in this movie. So he tells me all this it's probably like opening weekend. Because he saw it on the Friday night on the Saturday happened to beat his house. He tells me the story. And then as we know like is this movie goes on it goes on to be an enormous success to huge Oscar film, it became part of this sort of pop cultural lexicon, receive see clips of very famous lines that Lecter would say on television all the time or during award shows. And I think I had a vision of what I thought the movie was going to be before. I saw it probably was not until a year or two after came out that I finally saw it, and we was quite different from what I was expecting..

"Actor. Like last decipher words, we hear and the movie starts with Cleary's. It ends with with Hannibal. Interesting thing number two. Like you. Look, really interesting. This is fascinating. Sows of lambs was released on Valentine's Day or the week of Ellen tines day, the least Valentine's Day movie. That's or is it was pointed out there's this sort of on sexual love affair on between Cleary's and Hannibal in the movie kind of book ends their feelings. So maybe it's maybe. Do you know what the most Valentine's Day movie to come out on Valentine's air Valentine's week? No, I I assume it's the movie Valentine's Day, you would. But that's not it's actually step up to this eight very very romantic, far, far security, Valentine's interesting thing number three and nineteen Ninety-one article at empire magazine Hopkins described Hannibal Lecter voice by saying I thought of him as a combination of Katherine Hepburn Truman Capote in how from two thousand and one A Space Odyssey and as a super specific thing. But when you watch the movie after reading that it sounds exactly like all three of those things, which is to me. I thought very incredible of that. And it's very it's really interesting. Okay. This is my favorite one that I that I read this is from in two thousand sixteen article enrolling stone with Ted tally who's a screenwriter for sciences lamps. He talked about how in the movie Hannibal blinks only one time entire movie. That's it just he said he trained himself to do that. He's not going to blink home. Does at one time Winkler Isa's telling him about the his running through the memory of the lambs and all of this stuff. And that I thought was the most interesting thing, and then I watched the movie, and this ally he believes the fuck, and I ten seconds. When she walks when she walks up to him. Wait a second. This is not this is not true, Ted tallies out here. Just lying. A great example of the kind of like myth making we create after something comes out in the world. Like if you just look on. I am db trivia pages filled with interesting ideas, but like have them or kind of bullshit or where they've been distorted over the years. Does that fall under the category of director bullshit, even though it's not quite director Bill show? It's kind of like character bullshit. I know we're trying to create even more like as if Hannibal Lecter who was one of the all-time great movie characters in the history of movies needed more aura more mythology behind him. Brian Kelly still out here after he won an Oscar still flexing. Some questions the first question, this is the most fundamental question. The most direct question I'm going to ask you the wanna be today. But it's very simple. Very direct. Why is Hannibal Lecter scary? Just why because he's a little old man is not physically threatening. But what is it? He about him. He refuses to acknowledge the reality of his surroundings. He's in prison. Right. And yet he's in complete command all the time, right? There seems to be no barrier between him and the outside world. He has an ability to affect things go on their kills megs. With few whispered words, and is so directly confrontational with Clarisse in ways that she's just not prepared to wasn't ready. Not at all ready. Oh, smelling her perfume smelling the performance. She's not. Wearing. You know, he just is does not seem like a caged being in any kind of way. I like that. And that's what's to me is terrifying. Sean, I think there's also an uncommon intelligence. You know, a lot of movies, you have super villains or people were trying to conquer the world, and they're sort of famously flawed. They make mistakes or they explain their plan or they tell you where they're going Lecter is incredibly insightful incredibly intelligent. He is oddly charismatic clerks even though she's sort of mortified and unable to contend with his insights, and the way he's manipulating her. She's totally enraptured by right? You know, she can't look away. She wants to be close. She's sort of drawn to him in this insane way. And I think it's because he just he knows more than everyone. I I actually don't quite understand how he was captured in the first place see by the measure of his escape that he is. Just doesn't incredible brain his tactician. Yeah. Yeah. There's a there's a great line in red dragon..

But never forget what he is the good doctor Hannibal Lecter. I'm Sean see. That's Jason John. Joe two guys. Always put the lotion on the skin. If you've seen my my pale and crusty complexion, you know. That's not true. Let's do the plot of the movie. I I'm gonna run through the plot. Feel ready to jump in. If you fill it's necessary and silence of the lambs. The serial killer named buffalo Bilas kidnapping women starving them for a couple of days, then killing them and skinning them and kills a few people in FBI doesn't really have any ideas on how to catch him. Or even who he might be. So Jack Crawford who runs the behavioral science unit of the FBI comes up with a plan. Can I say before we keep going? Can I say requested this plan was to me a little bit reckless? It felt like we're gonna get into exactly why very convoluted. Yeah. Yes. Quite convoluted. But just watching it. I was like Jack. What are we doing here? This is the best we've got four Clarisse. Anyway, Jack's plan is he asks Clarice, Starling FBI trainy to go talk to Hannibal electives, this brilliant. But also extremely nut Syria killer being held at the Baltimore state hospital for the criminally insane. He tells her that he's sending her there to interview Lecter for other reasons, but Starling who is smart sniffs out than it somehow tied the buffalo Bill piecing together. Jack says no, no, no, it's not it's not just just go. But be careful. So she goes in the first interview with Lecter is a disaster. This Sean the way, you know, that an interview when poorly is if at any point during them somebody throw semen at you. Yeah. That's that's been an issue here. How can I would just like to note that the arrow dynamics thought make a lot of sense? I think that they're the distance covered. Seems inaccurate. But I'm but moving sorry. Sorry to interrupt. I was expecting a lot of things that we did the villain by us. But like a a seaman aside in the first two minutes was not what I was at this. I mean, I'm already into supporting the mix episode villains. T- to me. Okay. So the first interview is a disaster for Clarisse. But Lecter is intrigued by our so allows for more interviews to take place at Crawford eventually admits they yes, he's hoping lectures going to say something to help the FBI catch buffalo Bill. Meanwhile in the background we've got Bill running around kidnapped a new victim. And it turns out to the new victim is the daughter of a Senator. And Dr Chilton who's the guy who runs the Baltimore state hospital where electorates arranges for Hannibal to have a face to face meeting with a Senator. So he can tell her who buffalo Bill is. So they can rescue the daughter, and they meet up and Lecter fees ally. And then later that night he escapes the temporary holding sale that they haven't been by killing two guards. And then cutting off one of their faces and wearing it as a mask that'll trick. That thing. Starling is able to piece together the clues Lecter was giving her to find Bill. So she ends up finding him and then killing him, and then saving the senator's daughter, and the movie ends was Starling having graduated the FBI kademi because again, she was still just a baby, but she's graduated letters free. And he's on his way toward it's implied. But he's on his way toward killing Chilton who was out running around and the world's we get everything said all the pieces..
