"When you went in there. It was a real place. Um, you know, there were events going on in there. Remember Kathy Crowl Web and was a Gary Dotson. Um, you know, Jim Thompson was holding his public hearings in the auditorium on that concourse floor. Lech Walesa when he came to Chicago, spoke in that building. Um, I didn't know that. Oh, yeah, I was there with that. I spent hours and hours with Jerry Reinsdorf and Eddie Einhorn up at Jim Thompson's. I think it would have been Thompson, then his office as they negotiated and tried to save Comiskey Park And you know that led to the new Comiskey Park all that stuff when here's another one. God, this is my memory Lane, Dennis. But, um, when Jim Thompson announced he wasn't going to run for re election Um, it was a different time. Language was different than but you know he this was during the old George Bush administration. Old George was going to run for re election and Someone said to the governor said. Well, have you told President Bush yet? And he said no. And they said, Well, what do you think he would say? And Jim Thompson looked at the president said, Well, I think he'd be pretty pissed off. And, you know, politicians didn't say that stuff on the record back then. So all these things have happened in this building. We don't tend to think of it. As a history making, but I guess it was and it wasn't really the fault of the state for not just keeping up with it, Keeping up with the upkeep if you'll forgive the turn of phrase. I think that is the problem. The state has not against. There were some Corners were cut when the building was built in the first place, and then maintenance has not been kept up over the years. Part of the reason that in recent years maintenance hasn't been kept up is that It was already sort of decided Governor round her first tried and now governor. Pritzker once has picked up the baton to sell it. So at some point, you know, it's kind of like, uh, we think we're going to be rid of this, So let's not really work real hard to keep it up. That's only a piece of it. Um and and well, and the real reason the state wants to sell it is that the belief is that is a very, very valuable piece of land. And you could build something. Now that the, uh, site has been rezoned. By the City Council by the Chicago City Council. The state would be able to sell it for more money because you could build a taller building there then then exist on the site now and and we have a big budget gap in Illinois, like sure this would not solve it. But it would at least be part of the solution. Hey, everybody talks about how people are fleeing the city of Chicago. They're going out in droves and They did early last year. But some of the latest numbers shows actually that Chicago the city proper, is growing faster than the rest of the area. Yeah, well, home sales are growing faster. This was this home sales data I was looking at earlier this week for the first five months of the area. It is a German. But this was end of May data and the idea I was looking at was, you know a lot of people said Not only at the beginning of the pandemic, but they're continuing to say now. Nobody wants to live in the city. Nobody will buy a home in the city. Uh and there was a shift. There was a dramatic shift toward suburban home buying in the early parts of the pandemic. But it has really not been true. Overall in the first five months of 2021 Home sales in the city were up about 22%. I'm sorry 24% from the five year average for that same period so home sales are up 24% above the norm for the first half of First five months of 2021..

"3 11 Now on double D t o P. A Moscow court has ordered Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny to prison on charges that he violated the terms of his probation while he was recuperating in Germany from nerve agent poisoning. Navalny is the most prominent critic of President Vladimir Putin. Miss prison sentence stems from a 2014 embezzlement conviction that he has rejected as fabricated joining us Now with more w T o P national security correspondent J. I understand, And there will likely be Maura the same in the future. But here's the thing. Sources tell me, they're going to get much bigger and much more intense because in the valley According to a sum has now was sent it to the status of Nelson Mandela or Lech Walesa by openly defying the government of Russia, and he did it by returning to Russia, knowing that he would be arrested, knowing that he would likely go back to prison. And here's where it gets intense, One source says Putin did not expect Navalny that ever come back. He thought the threat of going to prison and possibly dying would deter him. But when he did come back, Putin and the Russian intelligence services were not prepared. And they're now in a defensive position with no real way out at this point in changing and Navalny said something before he was sentenced today, and guess it might send some chills down the back of the Putin regime. What wasn't wise? It's so important. That's right. He called Putin. Underwear poisoner, and that was devastatingly embarrassing. I'm told because that supposedly how Russian intelligence poisoned Navalny last year through a lethal nerve agent called movie Chunk that was planted in his underpants. And he said in a Russian court, despite attempts by a judge to shut him up that Putin was responsible. This, according to several sources, has again backed Putin into a corner. It's very embarrassing, and it's going to force him to do something. What's this doing to the U. S Russia relationship And could there be some kind of consequence for the U. S could be President. Biden has told Russia they're going to be held accountable for everything they've been doing, including bounties on U. S. Troops meddling in elections. You know what building where they protect and preserve the Constitution of the United States, America and Nancy Pelosi calls them terrorists and threat to the republic. Because they would like to exercise their Second Amendment rights. I would like to ask her whether these members are entitled to their First Amendment rights on Capitol Hill and just stop And see what she has to say. Because these air these air, anti intellectual people, these are very corrupt people. Nancy Pelosi is a very corrupt person, and now they want to build permanent high fences and my best girl and I were down in the capital when it was all fenced out before and then after the inauguration. And my best girl commented, You know, now that these things have gone up there going toe. Never take him down. They're going to make him permanent because you know they're authoritarianism, their orientation. They're anti democratic. They're not liberals. They're leftists. And not only they demanding that permanent fencing be put up there, also demanding that backup forces be continuously stationed nearby. This is a neo fascism, and it's Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden and the Democrats. And when you ask Jen, the fashion train wreck pus AKI about as you are, We're not gonna have any comment on that. Well, I'm sorry. This is the White House here. The head of state. The members of your own party are talking about locking down Washington like it's like it's Baghdad. And the Green Zone and you have no comment. I'm sorry. I'm a reporter. I'm going to say no comment is not an available option. Jen. Um you know that hair color is not really an option, too. But I have no comment on locking down Washington like it's a banana republic isn't really an option. We know Well, the animal maybe send some nameless, faceless drone over to you will Feed you a line of Bs and you'll type it up just like the steno that we know you are from the DNC instead of pool. So wait a minute forces additional forces nearby. Drug slender, just learned to uber run, Liz. This is honestly, as Ronald Reagan said. To have that little short version we shed that short version of President Reagan talking about fascism coming You know it was a book many years ago. Called liberal fascism and got unauthorized of that stuff, right? Can I can tell you and President Reagan had it right decades ago. No doubt about it Never comes to America to kind of name of liberalism. That's a fact. Jack. That's it. I want to make that my ring tone. Maybe we could make that my ring tone. Can we make that my ring tone and be good? These people are there. I don't know what I'm gonna do. I do have a friend who today, Uh, texted me that he's been talking about it for a long time. But now he's talking. He's talking to speaking to communicating online. With real estate agents outside of the country, and and he said this whole Wall Street thing yesterday was probably the final straw. Um But it is It's just It's amazing what is going on in this country and it's the left and there's nothing liberal about these people. No, I'm Abbie Hoffman. Compared to these people. These people are fascists there. There's nothing liberal about any of this. And the sooner that Democrats wake up and start telling the truth. The better chance we're gonna have of saving this really great project called the United States America greatest experiment in in human history. And and maybe the founders were wrong. Maybe we're not capable of governing ourselves in a sane and cogent way. Given the way that the left has sunk their teeth into the body politic attitude, academia and education of the teachers unions. You see these people, you know the teachers unions. You see the Chicago teachers unions there at the front of the line for vaccines. And they've announced you can get more. The vaccines you want. They're not going back to work. Well, what do you mean? What do you mean? You're not gonna use here? One of the teachers was got down in the islands in the Caribbean or somewhere on vacation, doing their classes over line from online from down there and they, one of the more ridiculous There are a lot of very ridiculous episodes. Is this The Chicago teachers here they put out they put this stuff out in public like people going to think this is great. The Chicago Teachers Union put out a tweet the other day six of our rank and file dance teachers come together to use their art form as a voice to express their desire to feel safe. Amidst the Chicago public School teachers return policy and then they I mean, and then there are videos of these nit wits. These dimwits these numbskulls Dancing as like, Maman chancers something blue man group saying This is an expression. I'm going to express myself through dance. No, you're just flailing about like a mental case. You You need a straitjacket, not a classroom this and then this is perfectly normal and liberal circles. They stand in solidarity. You know Lech Walesa Polish rebellion against the Soviet Union, And now they are the Soviet Union. They stand in solid A. With all educators at risk. They're not at risk. They're not at school. You're getting vaccines the front of the line, and now they're talking about going on strike, But first they danced. They Now is the time on sprockets when we dance. What is the matter with these people? What was it that Frank Zappa said that they reporter wanted to interview Frank Zappa about his music. "Here on Chicago's afternoon news Blackhawks hockey just around the corner, But first we're going to talk about the Thompson center is I know it First. The state of Illinois Center on the phone line is Ward Miller, the executive director of preservation. Chicago. Award. I could talk to you forever. Welcome. Thank you, Steve. Well, you know, we got plenty of time here. We could talk about way have to weed out the lace up the skates and play with the Nationals. Are the predators and the Hawks here coming up, But, um, so I love talking about historic sites around the city. And but this all started not so much with preservation. But just the idea of what happened at the Thompson Center. I mean, Started in this business in 1984. And you know it was a jule for a time and then it just seems like it went through this rapid decline. Yes. So you know, I remember it being published. I was an architecture school the time and remember it coming, You know on the paper and then walking out the door and seeing the old Sherman house on this site, the old Sherman House hotel legendary place and you know, being a little sad about the Sherman house coming down, but also very excited about the Thompson center is it was really Really amazing and went to several lectures by home. It yon talking about the building Come. He compared it to the old courthouse and post office that was demolished the 19 sixties and how this was going to be a place for everyone with the open Atrium Open Plaza and we were all very excited about it. Yeah. And so I was going to say so, you know, and I remember you'd eat the, uh, you know what? We were talking about this because the state of Illinois just purchased a building or some land for a building, um, outside the city center as they continue to make their moves to vacate this building, But there is a food court was great on the first floor. I used to buy my clothes is a young reporter at the J. Riggins on the first floor. And then I take the elevator up to cover Jim Thompson on the 16th floor. Right now, You know, it's a remarkable building. There were cost cutting measures, you know, done in 1980 in the 19 eighties toe construct this building, But it really is the people's building. There was meant to be part of that governmental center, which is you know that, uh, you know, City Hall, the county building the courthouse, the Daily Center, The George W done center and you know, it's kind of a shame that they're moving. These offices to you know, a fairly nondescript, you know, building in the West Loop, you know, near presidential towers. I suppose that's fine for back office space because they also got, you know, leased space all over, but kind of tragic that they're abandoning this building and, you know, it's just suffered deferred maintenance because of our state budget. But we've seen this happen with the governor's mansion that's fallen into disrepair, the state capital that is fall into disrepair. And we made those repairs and restore those buildings and they're fabulous. And you know, as any 35 40 year old building, you know, you need to update the systems make repairs and you know the state's been a little negligent on that front, and that's really unfortunate the building for the people so the building is salvageable. They just haven't spent the upkeep it tiki pit that way to keep it functional. Exactly And we really at preservation Chicago. We respectfully disagree with some of these really big numbers that have been thrown out to repair the building. But you know, if the state decides to move on which they seem to you, no, this building could reveal repurposed into. You know a lot of different things with that atrium as a spectacular space. It's just a loss, but the state doesn't You want to sell off its assets and doesn't value its buildings like we think they should. But word I mean, they did have trouble with heating and air conditioning or air conditioning in particular, didn't it that The big glass atrium in the offices off, you know, open off that atrium were hard to keep cool. Sure, you know, we always thought Steve that you know they could have glassed off the offices so you could have had different environmental environments. If you will, where you could have brought up the heat and not send it into the atrium by just closing that gallery off with glass, and we think there are a lot of different solutions here, but it's just unfortunate. Of course, they also have a CT a station. They have to deal with this transit hub. And it's you know, and those people that Don't like the building. We always challenge. Then we say, well, walking and tell me where you can find another spot in Chicago with a 17 story atrium like that at the time. Some center originally called the State of Illinois going by helmet Young, who designs buildings around the world, and, of course, the Sony Center in Berlin is designed by young and it's based upon the state of Illinois Building constant center. It's wildly successful, so you know, it's It's really, Ah, lot of the burden falls on the state Fernet. Keeping up with the maintenance. But we also understand the challenges in this post 9 11 h. Yeah, and you know, um, I'm just trying to think you talk about the fact that it was a public place and you write that you get off the C T. A L below and take the escalator up and then walk over to City Hall or elsewhere in the loop. But I mean, I met Lech Walesa there when he came to Chicago. Hey, spoke there? A Zay said. You know Jim Thompson. We announced he wasn't going to run for reelection. Was up with that 16th floor press conference to med girl. You know, there was so much history there and you know you drive the elevators up with the politicians and get your story before you got to 16 sometimes. That is wonderful. And then for those music fans, Laurie Anderson had a concert in a light show that was held in that atrium. Um, well quite a few years ago, obviously been before 9 11, but it was really meant to be a people's going when you think of the open plaza outside the open atrium. The transit stations. They level below that sort of food court. You really understand that it's it's an open. Billy was supposed to represent transparent government being glass on duh. You know, they still have You mean 11. I didn't mean the lack of transparency in Illinois government, right? Well, you know, helmet young compared it to the old, You know, don't Post office and federal time It was demolished in 1965, and you know what's really funny? Is he inverted it So you if you go to the 16th or 17th floor and look down into that that base and you know where the food court is. The pattern on the floor will give thee give you the illusion that you're looking almost up into a dome. But you're looking down, so there are all sorts of wonderful elements of play and architectural that engaged. It's building that's really, really fabulous. I know it's been tough on him, too. I mean, imagine being a guy like Helmut Jahn and seeing one of your creations torn down. Yes, well, we're hoping for a landmark designation and you know their incentives here That could really activate it. I jokingly think of all the Port John Portman designed buildings that Hyatt Hotel owns throughout the world that have these amazing atriums. You think of the Hyatt Embarcadero Center in San Francisco? Or, you know, even the more modest atrium space, you know, in Chicago or at the O'Hare at the O'Hare High it or, you know, downtown, the smaller one. They were traditionally, you know, buildings of this nature. And maybe this should work for an alternate uses a hotel or some type of hub. Um or, you know, office building again, You know, I think the possibilities air just lay with the developer and the incentives that they could have by landmark in this building. I don't want to be amazing if the developer could make this work, even if the state couldn't make it work. I mean, that would be an irony, right? Let's go from the lavish to the everyday. Emmett Till's home today was given landmark status. We've got just a minute or so left. But Um, I'm talking about history, which is, you know, just minor When you compare that to Emmett till and his mother living in Chicago, and now that home will be protected. Yes, we let a multiyear effort. Tonto Landmark the house. It's in the Westwood Line neighborhood on ST Lawrence Avenue. And it was ah, two flat..

"Ten ten. Now, some of you are old enough to remember the Cold War. If you were in school, you might recall the duck and cover drills or air raid sirens back then the enemy was the Soviet Union today while you haven't heard a lot about it. We are engaged in a new Cold War. This time for hap- some suggest with communist China and now almost thirty years after the end of the last Cold War. This war is not about intercontinental ballistic missiles or tanks or submarine so much it's about artificial intelligence an area of computer science that emphasizes the creation of intelligent machines that work and react like humans, some of the activities computers with artificial intelligence designed for include speech recognition learning how about. Fighting on the battlefield. So it's not so much about firepower. It's about things like algorithms drones and robots, but is the United States prepared for this new Cold War? Do we have overwhelming superiority in the field of artificial intelligence to deter or to win a war with communist China? And if not what do we need to do in order to regain that superiority? Lieutenant Colonel Bob mcginnis US army retired will be here to discuss. What does China have what do we need to do? How will the next World War be fought? And how do we prevent it? The new Cold War defending against artificial intelligence in the second half of this transmission, open lines. This is when you dear coast-to-coast listener get to scramble up to the rooftop with your flashlight. You signal the mothership we send down the tractor beam and bring you a board. And then you slide into the passenger seat and help steer this vessel towards the second star to the right and clear on till morning. Open lines and institution. On overnight radio. Now before any of that this too is quickly becoming another overnight radio institution. Tim banal is the news editor of the coast to coast AM website. And here in Toronto were rebuilding. Hey, whatever that means exactly tell me. Oh god. I was just gonna say this former polish president who's talking about a possible alien, invasion, invasion. What's this all about? Yeah. This one really blew my mind. I'm gonna Pat myself a little bit on the back here because we were the first English language website to get this reported. It was circulating in the polish media, and I picked it up through my Google algorithms. And it's funny. You talk about the Cold War. Lech Walesa was the Holland. Yeah. He's pretty pivotal figure from nineteen ninety to nineteen ninety five. He was the president of Poland here. No. He won the Nobel peace prize in nineteen eighty three. I remember I remember that. Yeah. Yeah. Important historical figure he was giving a speech at a town in Poland. And to the establishment of the people in attendance. We started talking about aliens, and UFO's and warned the people there that if the aliens ever came they would wipe out the human race and set us back to the stone age, and we'd have to rebuild society from scratch, and he he didn't just sort of put it out there as a hypothetical. He put it out there as if he was he was sure of this in a satellite. He had some kind of maybe knowledge of this as a possibility. Wow. And how was this treated in the in the polish mainstream media? Did they take it seriously? No, no. Unfortunately, they they poke a lot of fun out of him. And he said he learned the information from YouTube videos, so right away, you can kind of imagine they they really put him through the ringer on that. But who knows maybe he was just trying to cover his tracks there, and this is based on more than just YouTube videos, but he claims, you know, we got this from watching YouTube videos, and it it's pretty fascinating stuff. You know, we talked about sort of like the ancient civilizations had gotten wiped out in the past. And. Real coast level insights, it was pretty it's pretty remarkable. It was pretty remarkable stuff, and that's up on the website in in the number three spot. Maybe we should get us on coast to coast AM. What do you think Tim if we can get a translator? I'll be awesome. Yeah. Good point good point. Now. What about this couple that somehow were I guess they were bequeathed some furniture, and it turns out to be possessed? Yeah. This one was really really strange, and and kind of amusing in the sense because it's just so weird now. Yeah, this one actually is in the number three spot. The well, that's the one is in the number two on the carousel. Add the website and reason I point that I was folks to go and get a look at this furniture. This is nice furniture. This I'll be honest, Richard. This is better than the furniture in my living room and this unnamed couple apparently the husband had a dream and God revealed to him that all the black furniture in their home was possessed by demonic forces, and they needed to get rid of it. And so they packed it all up and drove it to the landfill. And dumped it there, and you can see in the picture. It's it's really nice looking furniture. It's really is really cool furniture. In fact, there has been a second set of big footprints found down there. And you're all over this story. Tim tell us about it. Yeah. Yeah. This one really excited me because when I saw it at first I had covered a story of a big foot citing down or a sort of a big foot flap. We they don't know exactly what it is. But then they ruled that out and kind of left Bigfoot as the only possible real conclusion and a lot of ways that was about a week ago and it happened earlier in March. So when I saw this story it's in the number one spot on the carousel folks can see the footprint that was left behind. I initially thought it was sort of a reeche of the story. Had already covered. Then as I was looking more into it. It really blew my mind because it turns out it was in a totally different village about five hundred fifty miles away. They found this sizable prints twelve inches long five inches wide and the farmer who where he found it. He said the truth is it is not a normal footprint, and you can see it's pretty massive. And they think it may be a big foot like creature known in Argentina as an Obama at UC U M A, which I'd never heard of and I've heard of a lot of these creatures, and they it's sort of a a a mythical and legendary being is a kind of hybrid between human and animal with a mixture of bear man and monkey and you know, in the cryptological circles, it's essentially known as sort of the big foot of Argentina. So there's something going on down there. You know, maybe the one from the first case travel the five hundred miles. I'm gonna Pat myself a little bit on the back here because we were the first English language website to get this reported. It was circulating in the polish media, and I picked it up through my Google algorithms. And it's funny. You talk about the Cold War. Lech Walesa was the Holland. Yeah. He's a pretty pivotal figure from nineteen ninety to nineteen ninety five. He was the president of Poland know, he won the Nobel peace prize in nineteen eighty three. So he's I remember I remember that. Yeah. Yeah. Important historical figure he was giving a speech at a town in Poland. And to the astonishment of the people in attendance. He started talking about aliens, and UFO's and warned the people there that if the aliens ever came they would wipe out the human race and Santos back to the stone age and we'd have to rebuild society from scratch. And he just sort of put it out there as a hypothetical. He put it out there as if he was he was sure of this in a satellite. He had some kind of maybe knowledge of this as a possibility. Wow. And how was this treated in the in the polish mainstream media? Did they take it seriously? No, no. Unfortunately, they they poke a lot of fun at him. And he said he learned the information from YouTube videos, so right away, you can kind of imagine they they really put through the ringer on that. But who knows maybe he was just trying to cover his tracks there, and this is based on more than just YouTube videos, but he claims, you know, we got this from watching YouTube videos, and it's pretty fascinating stop. You know, we talked about sort of like the ancient civilizations had gotten wiped out in the past and real coast level insights, it was pretty it's pretty remarkable. It was pretty remarkable stuff, and that's up on the website in in the number three spot. Maybe we should get like Walesa on coast to coast AM. What do you think Tim? We can get a translator. The we'll that's the one is in the number two on the carousel out, the website and reason I point that I was folks to go and get a look at this. This is nice furniture. This I'll be honest, Richard. This is better than the furniture in my living room and this unnamed couple apparently the husband had a dream and God revealed to him that all the black furniture in their home was possessed by demonic forces, and they needed to get rid of it. And so they pack it all up and drove it to the landfill. And dumped it there, and you can see in the picture. It's it's really nice looking furniture. It's really it's really cool furniture. It's really good stuff. You gotta be careful about bringing antiques Homer or so I'm told by people like Rosemary Ellen. Golly. Because you never know what sort of piggybacking on that. Nice armour or condenser. Yes, exactly. They call it. They call it gently warned, but by who you know. Indeed. Indeed. Yes, the cloven hooves disciple of bills above perhaps. So when I saw this story it's in the number one spot on the carousel folks can see the footprint that was left behind. I initially thought it was sort of a reeche of the story. Already covered. Then as I was looking more into it. It really blew my mind because it turns out it was in a totally different village about five hundred fifty miles away. They found this sizable prints twelve inches long five inches wide and the farmer where he found it. He said the truth is it is not a normal footprint, and you can see it's pretty massive. And they think it may be a Bigfoot like creature known in Argentina as an Oklahoma at UC U M A, which I'd never heard of. And I've heard of a lot of these creatures, and they say, it's sort of a a a mythical and legendary being is a it's a kind of hybrid between human and animal with a mixture of bear man and monkey and you know, in the crypto zoological circles, it's essentially known as sort of the big foot of Argentina. So there's something going on down there. You know, maybe the one from the first case travel the five hundred miles. I mean who knows and and and this is causing a ruckus in a different village.
